After a hard day of felling trees, a group of Norn lumberjacks are sharing tales of their past prowess. “Once I cut and trimmed a thousand trees in a single week.” one boasted. “Bah, that’s nothing. I once cut ten thousand trees in a month, building one of the largest dams in the Shiverpeaks at the same time!” boasted a second.

“You younglings don’t know a thing about real lumberjacking.” added a third. “I was once the head lumberjack of the Crystal Forest.”

“Wait, don’t you mean the Crystal Desert?”

“That’s what they call it now.”

I’m far less interested in weather effects (wish that wasn’t in the title) than I am with the effects that could be created using a more distinctive day/night cycle.

Happy now? :P

Would you mind changing it to Day/Night Cycle instead of (and Weather)? I’d appreciate it… thanks!

No, not really, when you consider this is more of a replacement for raid bosses than just a basic open world fight. Raids that aren’t coordinated failed. This is bigger. You should fail if not coordinated.

It’s not a Raid, it’s open world content. The fact that a large section of Sparkfly Fens is dedicated to it and the fact that people doing map completion might have to tiptoe around it means it is without a doubt open world content. It’s not the typical Group Event, true. But it’s still open world content. So I’ll ask again, why should so many hoops be jumped to clear an open world event?

It’s part of GW2’s alternative content to the raid system of other MMOs. It’s not meant to be something where you walk up to Tequatl, stick a quarter in his butt and he coughs up a loot chest. Instead of instanced raids of other MMOs, we have open world raid type bosses here. If you consider this open world content just like any champion then you’re mistaken… this is open world, true, but it isn’t meant to be the same. It’s more challenging and requires manpower as well as coordination, by design.

It dose not matter how hard or easy something is, whether it be a world boss, dungeon or a living story instance, if the overwhelming majority of the playerbase is not playing the added content then that is the definition of failure. Therefore Tequatl 2.0 is a epic failure and i can only hope that these two new world bosses dont go down that same path.

Horsepoop. Most people don’t do high level Fractals either, but that hardly makes them a failure. I know for a fact, as a matter of fact, that there were at least three hard-capped groups last night doing Tequatl at reset. That’s hardly a failure. Saying people aren’t doing the content is a flat out fallacy.

This has to be true, because I beat Tequatl several times a week with the TTS mega-guild. It’s more than just a guild, it’s a guild of guilds. I’m sure that’s who you ran into.

We often have more than one overflow that we take over to beat Tequatl. Anyone can apply and join it as a secondary guild, and just rep at the right times to participate. They just have to go to ttsgamers.com and apply.

Anyone who thinks Tequatl isn’t done isn’t paying attention.

That’s an awful lot of hoops to jump through to beat what’s supposed to be open world content, don’t you think?

PS – The question was rhetorical.

No, not really, when you consider this is more of a replacement for raid bosses than just a basic open world fight. Raids that aren’t coordinated failed. This is bigger. You should fail if not coordinated.

I have a slightly different take on this. Recently, developers have gotten lazy with Day/Night cycles, with it just being a difference in how light or dark an area is.
However, there was a time when the time of day meant different dangers for the players to face.
I think it would be very refreshing for a lot of the zones south of LA if for example, the Risen only came out at night, with the day being populated by other dangers.

I agree completely.

I’m not asking you to explain the fight, I’m asking why that requires any coordination beyond knowing how to play the game and having situational awareness. It’s a really easy fight.

Because the fight is spread over a large area, outside the awareness range of players, and failing at any phase will fail the fight.

You haven’t done the fight, have you? Explaining the fight should, for most people at least, have answered the question you asked.

Tequatl is too far in one direction in terms of difficulty. I’ve done the TTS raids. I have to get there an hour before the overflow fills up, park there. I don’t have to be on TS, but given that it’s mostly TTS members in the overflow, I know they all are.

If they want raid content, put Tequatl in an instance. I like difficulty, but this much coordination for an open world boss is a little silly. I think he could be scaled down quite a bit, still be difficult, but still be done by a regular zerg. Especially given how we knocked Zhaitan out of the sky with technically a group of 5 (no, I don’t count NPC’s) and his lieutenant is busy destroying everyone.

We didn’t knock Zhaitan out of the sky with a group of five. A highly specialized energy beam that was designed with anti-dragon magic was employeed to do this job. That megalaser was designed by the Asurans to do exactly what it did. We didn’t actually do that. The crippling blow was made by a machine that came from one of the Asuran personal stories.

You’re arguing semantics. No one felt “heroic” knocking Zhaitan out of the sky. But given how difficult the Tequatl fight is, I guarantee you feel pretty good after a victory.

Why is this a theme? Teq is a standard MMO raid dragon…At no point with the right amount of people have I seen it fail. It’s just more zerg content. You know how I felt the first time I beat the new Teq fight? “Well, that was another boring fight, won’t be bothering with this again on a regular basis.”

Zerg content? It’s the zergs that fail. Coordination and taking battle roles (gunners, protect the guns, protect the batteries, etc.) are what win it.

I just…I don’t even see it. I’m sorry.

There are various phases to the battle, right? You can’t just zerg the dragon and win. People need to man the cannons, and others need to be dedicated to protecting them. The laser batteries need to be protected when the mega-laser is charging (the undead try and wipe them out). That requires designated groups moving to their assigned battery then returning as the laser fires. In no way is this a fight you can simply zerg through. The mechanics simply don’t allow that.

A Norn and his Sylvari adventuring friend enter a rough and tumble Norn drinking establishment to boast about their latest adventures. The Norn bellows loudly to the bartender “Your largest and strongest ale!” The patrons all cheer him on in encouragement. The bartender turns to the Sylvari and asks “and how about you friend?” The Sylvari responds “I’ll have a water please.” A hush falls over the establishment. The Norn, looking slightly embarrassed, whispers to his friend “You’ll need to order something stronger than that in here.” So the Sylvari turns back to the bartender… “And put it in a dirty vase.”

BG and JQ are two that would have no issues killing Tequatl without guesting. What guesting does is result in multiple overflow servers all killing Tequatl as well.

Run dungeons – for what purpose?
Farm gold – for what purpose?
Champ trains – lol
WvW – for what purpose?
PvP – for what purpose?

This is exactly how I feel after playing for around an hour.

I mean, I like the game, but there seem to be no purpose. No synergy between those said above.

I mean, yeah, we killed the champ. We got loot. What impact does it have on the world? none.

Yeah! Server is tier 1 on WvWvW! And? Oh we brag blah blah…

What have other games done that make you feel like you have changed the world that they created?
Is there anything that actually can be done without changing the world for people that come after you.

Blizzard managed it with great success, the places you saved stayed saved…wait that sounds familiar, and the world changed for you and any who helped forever. (Argent Vanguard, Shadow Vault) as example.

We all have an idea what to expect with the living story now, 12 step to chest, zerg zerg zerg.

I don’t think this is true. That is to say it wasn’t true during the first year and a half. What they did later they did later.

I thoroughly expect changes in the world to change the world for everyone.

Because if you’re talking about phasing that came with an entire host of problems that people complained about for years.

Yeh some peeps who didn’t open the game up complained about being phased, when all they had to do was the content.

I remember having party members disappear because we were at different phases. Run across a line, they reappear. Run back, disappear. Definitely not something I’d call a good system.

I seem to be the only one on this forum that knows how a story works. I’m so excited that this game actually has one that lasts, rather than being released all at once and then having nothing for two years.

I LOVE the living story. I pity the poor person who had to change their vision for the living story because of impatience on the part of the players. Releasing a little bit of story every two weeks is an amazing idea, and it seems that people here can’t connect the dots enough to realize that these story pieces aren’t random – they’re all part of a larger whole.

What I’m getting is that not only do most people not understand that the conclusion of the story is forthcoming, but that they want all their story at once, and then they want to repeat it over and over and over for a year until more story comes out. Then they can repeat that over and over.

I am legitimately confused. Why does this have to be all instant gratification? Why can’t we all just relax and let the story come as it does?

Because a good story is hard to put down, and you eagerly look forward to each chapter. This is not a good story. If this had been a book, I would have tossed it right after Scarlet appeared.

I want it over with, because until it is, this is all we are getting. I don’t care any more about the “finale” of this badly written formulaic pulp than I would care about the ending of a book thrown in the trash.

I’m still looking for the next chapters of the Tyrian story I started in GW1. Mordant Crescent. Joko. Cantha. Elona. What became of the Canthan empire, Luxons, Kurzicks. Evennia. Livia. The Sceptre of Orr. I’ve waited patiently for those things, the things they hinted in “The Changing of the World”, because those are compelling stories,.. or could be.

Note that I didn’t even mention Dragons. Far more than Dragons have been ignored to promote this Stale Story.

So are you saying Guild Wars 1 had a good story that you couldn’t put down? That wasn’t formulaic? I can’t name many MMOs that have a good story I couldn’t put down. This is because MMOs aren’t books.

When I want literature, I read. When I want game play, I don’t find it at the library.

There may somewhere be an MMO with a story I couldn’t put down, but I haven’t found it in WoW, or Rift, or Perfect World or DDO, or Lotro. I didn’t find it in AoC or Warhammer.

Games are centered generally around gameplay. Even TSW as good as the writing was, was something I felt I could easy put down. I didn’t try SWToR, because though it might have had good writing due to the Bioware influence, nothing else about the game appealed to me at all.

Yes Vayne, I am stating my opinion. Mine. An opinion that is every bit as valid as yours. Period.

I did each step of the “storyline” campaigns in GW1 eagerly, and War in Kryta, Winds of Change, Hearts of the North. Not talking about great literature, but a good story. And then I did them again. and Again.

Depth of Lore, story and continuity of story is far far superior in Everquests.. and they have managed to do it for 13 years or so. I have at least 300 books collected in EQ2.. all telling a bit of the “story” and that is just the tip of the iceberg.

I do not need your short laundry list of games you have supposedly played. I do not need your definitions. I need nothing from you to form and hold an opinion. Sorry to break that to you.

You must have pretty low standards, because the story in Guild Wars 1 was cliche too. Whether you liked it or not, if you can’t admit it’s cliche there’s not much else to talk about.

Like when you got to Kryta, you didn’t know the White Mantle where bad guys? You didn’t know the Shining Blade was good? You trusted Vizier Kilbron?

I find that hard to believe.

I have a differing opinion than you, therefore I have “pretty low standards”. Amusing and predictable. Done.

No, you have low standards, if you can’t see that something cliche is cliche, having nothing to do with different opinons. It’s pretty much a fact it’s cliche down to the bad guys in that having the accents of the spanish inquisition.

It’s not his fault. Nobody expects the Spanish inquisition.

Arnath, I suggest you read the previous 2 posts.

Teq is being done on major servers and not small ones, yes, however bear in mind that this is the case with a lot of things. Champ trains don’t always run on small servers, some dynamic event bosses don’t get dine on small servers, it’s very common for small servers to just not do it.

Guest. Seriously. It’s there for a reason. Not everyone wants to do it, but there are tons of people who do.

If you have to transfer/guest for any content in this game then that content is immediately classified as a super mega massive epic failure.

The developers should have fixed Teq within the first two weeks of its update after seeing this catastrophe. The fact that they have done nothing and now are proceeding to add two more Tequatl clones is bringing this game to an early grave.

No, if you have to transfer/guest for any content in this game then that content is immediately classified by you as a super mega massive epic failure.

There’s a difference.

No.
All content should be capable of being done on every single server. The only time this wont happen is if the server population has dropped significantly and in that situation servers would have to be merged.

So either every single server in this game has to be merged to the one/two servers that defeat Tequatl multiple days a day.
OR
You accept that Tequalt is a epic failure.

What are you going on about? You’re not making sense. Last night at 7PM eastern Tequatl went down at least three times just from the regular and two overflows, and I don’t know if there were more overflows because the second one was hard-capped.

I doubt there are any servers without the people to beat Tequatl. It’s possible there are those that don’t bother to put in the effort to try, but your argument is so far removed from the reality of it all as to be baffling.

To kill Tequatl 2.0 you have to transfer to the right server, at the correct time, be in a specific guild, be in the precise overflow and use teamspeak.

And people think that Tequatl 2.0 was a success?!

If Tequatl 2.0 was a success he would be getting killed multiple times a day on every single server, that is the definition of success.

Right now i wouldn’t be surprised if less than 5% of GW2 playerbase has killed Tequatl at all.

It was a epic failure, one the greatest failures in MMO history, and ArenaNets lack of commitment to fix it speaks volumes about the state of the game.

And now they are adding two more…

Actually I stumbled into an overflow, hopped on TS and was part of the kill, so reality is giving you a very puzzled look right now. Most people weren’t even speaking, just a couple that were leading the event, and a lot of people weren’t even in TS, they just hung with the main group.

sigh… all this hype about the final four releases, fist patch back from a long break and what do we get? Two boring world bosses that will either be to hard and abandoned like the new Tequatl (the most poorly designed epic failure in ArenaNet history) or something like the KarKa Queen who is easy yet no body gives a kitten about it because of its location and effort involved to spawn it.

I honestly was expecting something good in these final four releases, did they learn nothing from the epic train wreck that was Tequatl 2.0?

Transfer to JQ

Teq is downed 3 times a day, and kakra is downed 3-4 times a day. After reset JQ has 3-4 overflows that all down Teq. (you will need to show up an hour before spawn to get a spot in a competent overflow)

I agree they aren’t the best design, especially for small servers, but they are done daily if you are actually looking to do them and not just complain. Hopefully this new boss scales better so we can do it with 20 people or 200.

Teq spawns 12 times per day. Your server does it 25% of the time. Other world bosses are done probably 70-80% of the time.

Last night, after reset, I was a little late getting to Tequatl (I normally don’t do it, being mostly WvW but felt like it last night) and wound up in overflow. A really crowded, filling up fast overflow. A guild in there started spamming (in the best sense of the word) that they were organizing a kill in the overflow, put out TS information, etc. I think the guild was TSI or something similar… turns out this was what they were calling the “second overflow” due to one having filled already. Regardless, the dude in charge got this mishmash of players in TS, organized, and we took down Tequatl with a good four and a half minutes to spare. It was a blast, and many thanks again to that guild and the efforts they put in to make it a fun and successful go for everyone that showed up.

So… three times per day? That was three times nearly simultaneously. I think people are vastly understating how often Tequatl is beat in a given day.

This has to be true, because I beat Tequatl several times a week with the TTS mega-guild. It’s more than just a guild, it’s a guild of guilds. I’m sure that’s who you ran into.

I’m going to toss a new idea in here even though the proposal is already out there because… well, because I just thought of it… sorry Chris. It may seem a little strange (and feels a little strange to me to be honest) but it feels like a potential horizontal progression path…

Right now with the Living Story we’re seeing a changing of the guard as far as the heroes of Tyria go. Destiny’s Edge is settled back into non-guild, non-adventurer life with some influence and we’re seeing the latest quintet of Braham, Rox, Marjory, Kasmeer and soon the new Asura who seems about to become significant as well. To me, this could be the beginning of a new guild similar to Destiny’s Edge. I think that I think it would be interesting if, through the Living Story, players could also become a part of that guild and somehow through their actions and accomplishments in the LS progress along a path to possible rewards, unlocks, etc.

Conceptually it’s still a bit vague, I just thought of it, but possibly there could be skills or traits unlocked, unique weapon or armor skins, minipets, items to display in a housing environment (guild emblem or crest for example), etc.

It’s a fledgling idea, but there you go.

This Thread used to start with a post about Progression and fractal reset. It used to have been said by Chris that he will answer this question back in 2013 over and over again. But it seems to have been forgotten in 2014 wich is just a shame.
so once more:

Any update on fractal reset?

Look up a few posts to Chris’ remarks.

Rather they take much of those elements out of the gem-store, like mini’s They belong in the game not in the gem-store. You want to put something in the gem-store that does not effect the game.

Wait, wait… minipets affect the game?

I must be using mine wrong then.

Why would anyone WANT to swap servers to BG?

in WvW

Posted by: VOLKON.1290

VOLKON.1290

As a Blackgate player, I personally loathe our WvW scene for 4 reasons:

1. It seems like we win way too often. I’ve seen high-tier opposing servers just give up. It takes the fun and the challenge out of things.

2. Everything boils down to massive zergs. “It’s the BG ocean vs. the SoR ocean. Again.”

3. We generally get the same opponents. If we’re lucky, we’ll get one or two different opponents once in a blue moon. But even then, it’s all from the same small rotation.

And, of course….

4. We have to wait on massive queue timers just to experience WvW at all. The EB generally has a 2 hour minimum queue and battlegrounds often have 10min+ queue times.

And WvW Season 1, with it’s over-hyped server-performance based rewards is partially to blame for all of that.

The only thing holding me back from a server swap (to a more average server) is my excellent Blackgate guild.

I’m a little late to the thread… but is sounds like Jade Quarry can offer exactly the type of experience you’re looking for!

Suggestion: Fan designed clothing contest!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: VOLKON.1290

VOLKON.1290

I’d like to propose that ANet consider running a contest among the fans to design a set of town clothing. How I envision it would be like this:

Design a full set of town clothing for one specific race. There will be separate categories for each race. The clothing must be appropriate for that race… i.e. it must feel like it fits in with the lore of that race. Designs can be formal or casual, and keep in mind it’s town clothing as opposed to armor. Submitted designs must show enough details and angles to be usable to copy into the game, all designs become the property of ANet yada yada.

The idea is that the winner of each category, determined by means to be determined, would have their design added to the game. How it’s added can be determined… sold in the cash shop, free in the cash shop, added as clothing we can craft, etc.

I just think this would be a nice way to pull the community into the game a little more, adding a personal touch, a little more “mine” feeling to GW2.

This, of course, could lead to weapon design contests, mobs, etc.

I don’t understand how you can complain about taking too long and then in the same breath in another post say, that we do not have time to check the scenery- or that there are no interesting places to explore.“

It was all based on the idea of removing way-points or having maps without way-points. In that case walking would take to long. I think you missed the beginning of that discussion, that might be why you are confused about this.

Not that I want to go into the mount discussion again but I will answer your comment.
Like I commented on VOLKON here https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/CDI-Character-Progression-Horizontal/3490392

I still don’t see the terrain as any problem. Yeah you would not do a JP on a mount no. We have many animals that already walk like mounts do… or run like mounts do.

Yes there are many mounts in the game. We have cars, bikes (and actively building them), we have airships, air balloons (now above you in LA), normal ships, helicopters, transport vehicles (Dredge), horse carriages (Being used to get supply to Kessex Hills for toxic LS), on this image you see people riding horses https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/releases/january-2013/ , we have dolyaks used to carry supply and brooms we can already mount on. The whole game is full of mounds. So from that lore view it does not even make sense we don’t have them. Not sure how you can see they are.

“Take a look at the races for example- the Norn, Charr and Asura.
Both the Norn and the Charr would see it as an insult to ride a mount because it implies they are to weak to use their legs, the Asura would see it as an insult to their intelligence because they made gates after all.“ Really? Just say you don’t like mounts thats fine. Charr have an active factory building mounts and I have seen Charr and Norn on airships I have have seen them all on brooms.

About the humans. Nowhere in there lore with the exception of all the horse carriages all over Tyria?

I find it humorous that you’re using as an example a piece of art that shows a horse, yet there’s no one riding any mounts in the artwork, just beasts of burden.

Mounts don’t fit in GW2. They don’t fit with the fast travel system, they don’t fit with the lore no matter how you try and twist things around. You don’t see the NPCs riding all over the place on mounts. You see two things… war machines and beasts of burden. Well, three if you include ships, however ships are not personal mounts. Mass transport systems are also not mounts, i.e. balloons, etc.

You keep mentioning these “horse carriages” all over Tyria, but for the life of me I can’t recall seeing a single one yet.

Really don’t want to go into this discussion again but here is a link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWmwrYRkIdE
At the picture I did show you look left front (can’t really mis it),
And at Thunder Ridge Camp you can see a horse carriage that has just moved there.

Not lets drop mounts for this thread. Might be something for a future CDI.

So, a chopper that can’t fly (and is too big for a personal mount anyhow), a horse in a painting without a rider and an apparent “horse carriage” that I’ve yet to see (you sure it’s not a dolyak carriage) but would still indicate beast of burden instead of mount, and these are the justifications you’re using to say mounts are part of the lore?

Yeah, we need to drop this discussion. Definitely.

I still think for player housing we should consider that the Consortium has a lot of real estate for sale in Southsun… just saying. The karka could be pushed back from the north, the area developed and there you go. Of course… there’s always the risk that the karka try and reclaim their lost lands in the future… could be event-full.

Open world housing like that would indeed be fun in your case with a PvE element where the karka can attack. However, the place you are referring to would be to small.

I don’t know how much space would need but I think it’s a least 3 maps fully dedicated to it. Plus I would then also give the option for PvP maps for housing so guild can fight over land and members can build there house on that land. That adds something for the people who like PvP.

Unless there was a full town type of structure there with a variety of homes to select from and once you “owned” one the interior was more of a personal instance. May the artists forgive me, but say there were 20 different styles of houses there for sale, you’d buy one and get the key to access it. They could even steal a little Timelord technology and make them bigger on the inside.

Could work but would also take something away from the feeling of your personal house. You now see 20 people entering ‘your’ house.

True. Just one possible idea to toss around that fits in with the story of the game.

-A reworked (cleaner) version of Signet of Capture would work very well for Role Diversification.

Just thinking.. With a signet of capture, would it work for just utility abillities?
I personally think Guild Wars 2 still need swap able Weapon skills, so each weapon would be possible to use for different roles. Have this been thought of or..?

Ugh… that has the tainted smell of specialization to it. If you allow specialization, people will begin to require specialization. That’s definitely not a good thing for this game.

People are already specialized. 99% of the players in this game (hyperbole) are specialized in outputting as much damage as possible.

Not in WvW (on my server at least) I can assure you that. But even if that’s true, why make it worse?

How do you feel about GW2 right now?

VOLKON.1290

How do I feel? I feel like it’s the best game on the market, certainly my favorite, and I’m enjoying watching the game grow and progress as everyone gets a better feel for what actually works in practice as we go along. I found the two week cadence becomes addictive… it’s hard to imagine other games go months, half a year or more with nothing new added. I appreciate what they’re doing and have the patience to wait and see what comes next from the CDI discussions, which show real promise when the community actually takes the time to discuss the direction of the game and offer constructive criticism and creative ideas as to how each of us thinks it could be improved.

That’s how I feel. Thanks for asking.

Another thing that has me a wondering a little…. Why add a second world boss to Bloodtide Coast? There are other maps that could use a permanent addition of a world boss.

I got the impression from the article that they’re also adding stuff under Bloodtide Coast. Anyone else get that feeling from what was written?

You can make a zone a lot bigger by getting vertical and add tons of new content while you’re at it.

Specialization is not the problem, there is already plenty of specialization in the game, the problem comes when only one specific setup is viable for a certain dungeon or w/e. You cannot really avoid specialization.. Adding more options for each weapon would only increase versatility of each weapon.

Well… that depends on the options added. If you could equip heal-type skills in every slot you’d have people doing that, thinking they’re a healer and scoffing at anyone else that is actually using the full extent of their abilities.

Besides, I don’t think new skills on existing weapons is the answer when we have all these weapon types already existing that professions can’t use yet. I’d much rather see what my mesmer can do with a hammer or dual-wielding pistols than I would like to switch out a skill on the great sword. All those weapons we can’t use yet means a whole lot of potential new skills.

What is this ore pack? I haven’t seen it.

copper node, silver node and gold node for your home instance- 800 gems.
it went up in the store today
along with some rng dye pack and a metabolizer item that makes your food boosts last 12 hours

Hmm… not really enough uses for those to be worth 800 gems to me personally, but I do like that they’re adding home instance type things. If that covered all the ores I’d be on it in a heartbeat. Even if it was just the other ores I’d probably get it.
