Falling off a cliff damage lag

I’ve had mixed results with falling from the exact same place as well. Sometimes I fall, splat (nothing), get up, go to take a step, splat again and take damage. Other times as soon as I go to move I fall again. And again. Up to four or five times. Finally I’ll take damage at the bottom and break the cycle. I’ve also successfully fallen and taken fall damage, and the best one yet is the rare “fall, land on feet, take no fall damage” scenario.

Like I said, all four things can happen at the exact same place. It’s weird.

Congrats on a fine victory BG, but you guys need to reign in RISE on the forums. They’ve been there 2 weeks and they are acting like they are the sole reason you are winning.
I’m sure they are pumped to be a part of the push that is putting you guys over the top, but they are accounting for 90% of the BG chest pounding in this thread.

RISE is a fine addition to BG and they have worked hard for the past two weeks. Without the great effort from them and other ex-KN guilds, BG would never achieved what we achieved today. I think you guys are being overly harsh on RISE just because they were a little bit too excited on the forum. Above all they are still new to the tier and don’t have the full grasp of the etiquettes and love hate relationship between the three servers yet.

Just make sure you all let RISE know that you owe them everything, for you’d be still wallowing in second and third place without them. Guilds that powerful should be deferred to when it comes to who does what weekly, which maps they get, etc. It might even be nice of you all to slip them some free siege equipment to facilitate their ability to carry you all over the top. It’s obvious that BG is on the RISE.

Sorry! But with the anime eyes and now the whole -pickheart- bit which was only missing a prince charming or animals showing up as she sings really bad Disney corniness. The more this character goes on the more I wish a demon dog would eat Rox’s eyes. So at least one bad trait would be gone and she’d look more kitten that way anyways and we could get back on track to her being a kitten trying to join Rytlock not a cuddly anime charming disney cuteness.

Never going to like her as is period and if you ever give me an option to kill her in personal story it will happen.

I’m a player character out to have fun and my colors have been changed to make it work. Either way I am not a major story npc and Braham has deep red hair so these colors can work when done right. LOL RISE is so silly. At least BG earned its way into T1. All the Kaineng guilds couldn’t pull it off so they had to transfer in. It’s like RISE using a portal bomb. Yeah it will get you there, but you’re going to get your kitten kicked in the process.

Hard to figure out who it is without at least a screen shot. I just got pm’d accusing me of being in a guild of hackers and exploiters but said user wouldn’t provide a screen shot. Hopefully you can provide me with a screen shot to go off of otherwise I can’t do much.

He is exploiting in from the spawn point to hills, he’s done it about 4 times now. We’ll try and get you a screenshot, but looking into it on your end as well would be a great start.

Hard to look into when someone who has a screenshot won’t give it to me because he would rather slander me.

I can confirm that this has been happening, whoever is doing it teleports straight into the lords room. Needless to say we are sure that they weren’t hiding in there as it has often happened when there was no way a mesmer could get inside. This isn’t someone trash talking your guild and I am not one to do that. I think he is just trying to make you guys aware because I know you wouldn’t approve of that sort of behavior.

As I stated previously I can look into it but literally without screen shots its like a needle in a haystack. And you did have a member of your server pm me saying he had screen shots and accusing me of having an exploiter’s guild if you want those screen shots pm me privately.

Well I promise that personally, I will be looking to get a screenshot of the culprit, as a wvw rank and visual ID will certainly aid you in your search. I give you my word that this has been happening. I don’t know who that was that pmed you calling you an exploit guild, that has never been my experience with you guys in the slightest, they are very wrong. I am sure we can work together to find the culprit.

Apologies if I came off a bit strong, you’re definitely presenting this with a level head and deserve the benefit of the doubt in my opinion, for what that’s worth. Good luck with the screenshot. None of our servers or guilds should tolerate this crap.

Sentries seem to flip so often on T1 they look like blinking Christmas lights, and I have stacks of red meat thanks to unfortunate yaks. I think a significant portion of the point differential can, like others say, be connected to this.

Stei’s right here… none of the major guilds on JQ (that I know of…) tolerate at all any form of cheating. If you have proof, please present it to Stei and I personally have every confidence it’ll be dealt with, just as it would with any of the guilds. If you claim to have proof, however, and won’t show it it tends to cast a shadow on the credibility of the accuser. It makes you think that this might be nothing more than an attempt to cause internal friction within one of our guilds. So please, either put up or hush.

One can hope. I suspect there may be coding considerations that we’re unaware of regarding all this so even though it’s simple conceptually it’s likely much more complicated in practice. Look how long it took to get siege to be account bound. Sure, it sounds easy, but when you’re knee deep in code it can be a whole different story.

Another idea for the loot bags is for them to automatically be added to your inventory, and behave similar to how other bags that contain crafting gear are done (ex. large moldy bag, small bag of supplies, ect.). They could be called WvW bags (or something to the like), and when you open them you receive the contents that you would normally from the loot bags (there could even be a few different loot bags, player kill loot bag, gaurd kill loot bag, animal kill, ect. if you wanted to make it easier to determine what should loot from what kills, seeing as keeping track of unique contents of each unopened bag would probably take quite a bit of memory). In this way say 4-5 open bag slots are all that are needed while going through WvW, and bags automatically just stack on eachother. At the end of your running around once you’re at a shop you can open and sell the contents of all your bags and continue on, again only needing 4-5 bag slots. This clears up the issue of how WvW eats bag space if you pick up the loot, as well as needing to worry about bags, they should be an afterthought after the fighting is done, but as it is now, you can really only leave them as an afterthought if you know you’re going to win the fight.

That idea is so 13 days ago.

one week in, wvw has turned from fast paced fun, to slow paced boredom.

Well, not entirely, but I’m seeing a slow shift in the meta. Sieges seem to be becoming more siege-like. I’m seeing trebs built to take down enemy siege before rams go up, I’m seeing solid defenses having a realistic chance to hold out from an attack my superior numbers (as they should). More and more I’m seeing the “rush the gate and drop five rams” tactic of old fail. Scouts are critical. Last night I was in Dawns when BG attacked with a split group. One dropped a treb north to take out siege, the other dropped a couple rams. I was able to hop on a treb and take theirs down before they got our siege and call in reinforcements in time to stop them with the gate at maybe 10% or something. Fortunately being near our Citadel waypoint allowed reinforcements to arrive just in time, but they’re having me think that maybe one scout isn’t enough in a structure if you can spare the people with the patience.

By the way BG, that was actually a very nice attack. Kudos to whomever thought it up. We dodged a bullet on that one.

One week in, actual effects on WvW

OK, here we are, a week or so into the patch with the changes being live, played with, etc. Let’s forget the forecasts of gloom and doom and take a look at the actual effects of the changes now that we’ve played them. A couple observations:

30 second delay before “X”. This one I’m still not too fond of, but it’s not as game-breaking as I initially over-reacted about. I have seen camps flip before an “X” showed up, which can be frustrating. I’ve seen tower gates down before or just as people get there to respond. BUT… this simply requires a change in how you defend. As suspected, you’re effectively required to keep scouts in places you wish to defend for your early warning system instead of that being automated. Probably the main issue I have is this… it isn’t fun. ANet can check the logs if they like, but I think I easily spent 12 to 16 hours collectively this weekend in Dawns as the scout, with the occasional jump down to kill a yak or something. It was boring, and I got crap for wxp. But it needed to be done. I was told in chat by someone that scouting wasn’t rewarding which is why it was hard to keep things covered. This effectively punishes the guilds that are more dedicated to “good” WvW and rewards the pugs that only want to frolic though the blood-stained grasses. Maybe something could be done to make scouts more rewarding? I dunno.

30 minute hard despawn siege timer. My opinion, this one blows. No sense going into it, in a different thread Devon had mentioned they were looking at the timers. Hopefully, if possible, I’d like to see the following:
5 – 10 minutes despawn on all rams.
1 hr despawn for non-superior, non-rams.
2 hr despawn for superior, non-rams.
That would make life easier I think.
Anyhow, how about some honest opinions based on actual experience now that we’re a week into the patch and have seen it live through a reset?

I think the arrow cart damage is fine providing they require line of site and can no longer shoot through objects (doors, roofs, walls, etc). This would solve much of the issue with them vs other siege too, because in order to clear a door, they would have to be in line of site of it …which means they would be able to get cleared by attackers in most cases.

An interesting thought, but there are many places that this would completely render arrow carts useless from a defensive stand point unfortunately. Northwest Hills gate, for example, there would be no place at all you could set up ACs with any effectiveness. So although the idea has its merits I think the negatives would far outweigh them.

Let me address your concern there. It is not the fact that a server dominates so handily, it is the fact it happens for weeks on end, and the Glicko system you use does not allow for shifts in population like we are seeing happen in T1 fast enough. A simple 1up 1 down system would, I believe suit everyone, in any tier, in any region, and definately avoid any stale matchups as servers would be more mobile.

Without going into specifics as we are still testing out some of the changes, we are looking to address the problems with our implementation of Glicko, especially the fact that matchups are not varying enough to provide accurate ranking data.

Is there any plan for any temporary solution while you are working on this? If not is there any ETA or an approximation of when we will see any changes? Our servers are still losing players as we speak, and we of course would like to bring back some good news to give people hope again.

The things we are working in should be going live in the next few weeks, if all goes well on the testing front. Thus temporary solutions are not worth the time they would take. I can’t give a definite timeline, because things can change, but hopefully you will see changes by the end of the month.

What I find strange with the Glicko thing is that you can win your match yet lose points overall because your win wasn’t as “macho” as the prior week. It’s a very odd system.

Please, for the love of the gods, one thing stands out above all others as being desperately needed, especially in WvW. Did you ever see someone randomly jump in a golem, walk out the gate of a keep and start fighting gryphons? Did you ever witness an enemy jump off a cliff only to have four of your allies follow to their doom? How about something as simple as a camp just about to hit 100 supply, you’re asking in chat for people to not take supply but right as it’s about to max out… someone takes supply?

I beg of you, developers and other wise folk of ArenaNet, please…

We need a /facepalm emote.

I know this may not be a popular opinion, but i miss Swirling Winds

Someone actually requested that Ele’s equip focues to protect our siege from trebs, until that person was quickly reminded it doesn’t work anymore. There was an audible, collective “sigh” in Teamspeak.

I have to admit… I’m of mixed opinions on that one. Being able to take out assaulting trebs is nice. Having a treb already set up in your tower or keep can make a world of difference, and mortars are a little more important now. I admit, I miss the defense, but there are times you gain defense as well because of the change.

Need to do something for rams otherwise they’ll never be used against gates again. In medieval times we would attach housings to the rams so the 10 men controlling the ram wouldn’t be hit by tar pits and arrows from above.

Why can’t Rams give a buff to the controller and 4 other players to make them take 50% less damage from siege for X seconds on a Y cooldown. Say 5 and 15. This way you’d need 3 rams to provide the buff to 15 people which still isn’t enough for a zerg to stay huddled by the door blasting fields, but would at least give rams a use at a gate instead of out in the middle of no where for fear.

I could be wrong, but I believe an adjustment is being made to ACs such that they do less damage against siege. I think the damage against people is fine to be honest, but a percent reduction against siege would be ok. Not too much… defenders need tools to defend.

Burning oil could use some type of shield… it’s rarely of any value, being burned down long before the first ram falls.

ANet can check the logs if they like, but I think I easily spent 12 to 16 hours collectively this weekend in Dawns as the scout, with the occasional jump down to kill a yak or something. It was boring, and I got crap for wxp. But it needed to be done. I was told in chat by someone that scouting wasn’t rewarding which is why it was hard to keep things covered. This effectively punishes the guilds that are more dedicated to “good” WvW and rewards the pugs that only want to frolic though the blood-stained grasses. Maybe something could be done to make scouts more rewarding? I dunno.

30 minute hard despawn siege timer. My opinion, this one blows. No sense going into it, in a different thread Devon had mentioned they were looking at the timers. Hopefully, if possible, I’d like to see the following:

5 – 10 minutes despawn on all rams.
1 hr despawn for non-superior, non-rams.
2 hr despawn for superior, non-rams.

That would make life easier I think.

Anyhow, how about some honest opinions based on actual experience now that we’re a week into the patch and have seen it live through a reset?

You clearly lack the ability to extrapolate an argument. The reason people think the AC buff has ruined open field combat, is largely because it makes objective sieges take far too long due to the inability to use siege within range of the wall. This leads to sieges consisting of hours of standing around while trebs fire without any actual player-on-player combat. In short, the damage ACs are doing to siege is what led to protracted sieges without open field fighting.

So… if I’m reading this right… open field combat is ruined because sieges to structures takes too long now. I always thought open field combat took place in, oh I don’t know… open fields? I think the biggest part of the arguments being tossed about is a battle over semantics.

The arrow cart is intended to be the anti-personal siege weapon. It is intended that arrow carts are all about controlling an area through damage. If you remain in the area that is being hit by the arrow cart, you will die.

Yes, I’m completely 100% beyond a shadow of a doubt proof positive that my opinion is that AC dmg to siege is too high, and Anet agrees.

Actually, they aren’t as big as a problem as you say they are. I’ve seen open field arrow carts built all the time post-patch too, both on my own side and the enemy side. We’ve managed to destroy theirs, and they managed to destroy ours suffering minimal losses. All you need is to be able to do is to flank. An arrow cart can’t cover all spaces at once.

Prepare for answers like “We never used to have to flank before; why do we have to start now?” and of course, the hilarious “You obviously don’t know what you’re talking about. When two zergs meet whoever drops the first AC wins”, spouted in this very thread 2-3 pages back.

Deciding to flank while already engaged in head-to-head combat is a risky prospect under the BEST of circumstances. You are a classic armchair quarterback…

What happens if you ARE flanking at the time? What happens if a flank is impossible because of the terrain? There are a nearly unlimited list of reasons why what you’re suggesting is impractical or impossible in the vast majority of cases.

This may sound odd, but you remind me of the British trying to fight the Minutemen back in the Revolutionary War. It sounds like you’re looking for nice, neat organized combat and upset that the Minutemen are using guerrilla tactics against you.

Ironic that you should quote the art of war while most thoroughly misunderstanding it…

Terrain, for instance, makes up about half of the Art of War. If it was as simple as FLANK FLANK FLANK, it would be one thing…but you’re suggesting a blanket tactic that is downright idiotic in the majority of cases.

Also, the idea Sun Tzu et al supports is that you never fight unless you absolutely have to, and then only when you know you’re going to win “without a doubt.” That’s a great thing in real life. It’s also a really really boring way to play a game.

There are LOTS of things in the Art of War that can be applied to WvW when it comes to actually being in combat. If you want to follow all of it to a T, you’re going to end up with three zergs on the map, holed up in keeps and towers, making faces at each other.

Ironically I find ironic your line with the word ironic in it. I never suggested a blanket tactic, simply gave an example of one that worked in a specific situation with contingencies.

What’s interesting is that you’re conceding battles where you see arrow carts involved. Your competitive servers should take notice and use that against you.

If tomorrow Anet comes out and says “Arrow Carts are accounting for far too many victories in WvW; our recent change to arrow carts will be rolled back pending more data”, I’m not going to hide. I’d like to shed some light on our thinking with this AC change as well as tell you all what we are doing right now to balance it.

Firstly, when siege weapons were originally created, they had the intent of being really good at some things and not so good at others. The arrow cart is intended to be the anti-personal siege weapon. It is intended that arrow carts are all about controlling an area through damage. If you remain in the area that is being hit by the arrow cart, you will die. You can however, move out of the space and/or find a new way to attack the intended target. That being said, they are not intended to be so good against other siege weapons and we are in the process of addressing that right now. We are also addressing their range when upgraded to be more in line with the range of ballistas.

Secondly, this change is going to require new tactics and those tactics include things like using ballista and catapults to destroy arrow carts. With that in mind, we’ve been looking more closely at the numbers of all the siege weapons and there are definitely some changes that need to be made to bring them in line with their intent. We are going to take a holistic pass at siege weapons in the coming months and drop a rebalance of all of them to get them to more closely align with what they should be doing.

Finally, the feedback you all provide is a very useful part of this whole process. WvW is a living, breathing game type and any changes we make have numerous consequences that don’t become fully visible until everyone starts interacting with them and devising new strategies. Our goal is to provide a complex combat space that rewards skill, tactics, and ingenuity and while we haven’t fully achieved that goal yet, I like to think we are getting there.

So in response to:

World vs. World (WvW) is PvP combat that involves hundred of players. Three huge teams —each representing a server, or world— battle for control over objectives on four massive maps in week-long matches.

Each map – one for each server and a huge “neutral” center map – is loaded with objectives that are worth points for the team that claims them. Players can band together to lay siege to castles, raid enemy supply caravans, clash with other players in truly massive battles, wreak havoc behind enemy lines, or build mighty weapons of war like trebuchets and siege golems.

World vs. World—it’s PvP combat on an epic scale!
