I gave up on that, man. Long, long ago. This game has way too few mechanics related to burning, whereas guardians have quite a few, and guardians/engie/berserker make much better use of this particular condition. I was honestly hoping for whatever the elite spec was, to be focused on burning, because it only made sense that a class which thematically produce fire could have plenty of mechanics associated with it.
I main an ele since first closed beta, back in 2012. I tried all weapons and liked a lot the burning produced by dagger mainhand, but that’s just that: burning. No mechanics, no traits, nothing that could expand the class in that sense. Sad ele, couldn’t follow Avatar path.
This is a good opportunity to make use of the newly-added “displacement” mechanics present in revenant skill. Make the elite something like “Seven Winds” (type: Arcane), displacing foes caught in whirlwinds scattered around the area which rapidly move in random locations. Displaced foes receive damage equal to Lightning Rod.

Ok, here’s a fix for a trait: Gains 5sec of quickness when casting an overload.
You’re welcome.
“The concepts behind overloading an element were pretty well received”
Well received by who? The press? Casual open world zerg button-smashers? Mindless stacking meta zerker button-smashers?
Where is our Signet of Arcana elite? ç.ç
It was rumoured to be an elite signet that would have a chance at granting Quickness to the ele upon attacking the enemy with a short ICD, and upon activating it would recharge all attunements.
Why don’t they make overload effects depend on stacking bonuses? For example: at 1 stack overload fire gives x1 might for 7sec, and apply 1 stack of burning for 3s. At 2 stacks overload fire gives x2 might for 14sec, and apply 2 stacks of burning for 3s. At 3 stacks, it gives x4 might for 18sec, and apply 3 stacks of burning for 3s… Overload stacks are attained upon staying in an element for 5s-10s-15s…
White Knights. They always show up against logical feedback, specially when they’re mostly critic, and not in favor of something.
Some issues you’ve addressed are nice and well spot-on, however, the things people are mostly asking about are traits and our horrible elite. I think you need a whole separate team to test the Tempest, because by now it’s not worth to spec into it, we don’t need a support-focused specialization, we can do it already pretty good.
You can remove 90% of the traits, apart from Element Bastion and Imbued Melodies (which are mutually exclusive) all the rest are too meh/uninteresting/non-synergic. Please, could you take some time to really re-evaluate the spec? The trait line is so horrible it doesn’t even feel worth grabbing.
I hope they disable weapon glow during flight, then… the amount of particles will ruin the gliding experience.
Loved this idea, it puts balance on their hands so they can freely tweak it not to become OP.
Don’t start a trend please, legendary armor would require ridiculous farming. Let them focus on weapons.
You guys are amazing! Can’t thank enough for your work and effort and care. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
We’ll be seeing a clusterkitten of purple stars in mini-map.
Doubt it because it requires the mastery track to be active, and most people aren’t going to be running a mastery track designed towards helping other players, they’re going to want the selfish ones.
Great, I don’t want many purple stars ruining my fabulosity.
Perhaps an elite focused on resistance with shorter cooldown? A signet? A cantrip?
I see a lot of builds combo’ing nicely with Arcane/Water, but then there is no damage and you could simply skip this spec. Bad thing is that eles are already awesome for healing, so I expected a more damage-oriented spec…
“Shock and Aftershock!” would be a great option if its cooldown wasn’t so high (50s? really?). Element Bastion’s healing is very low, like, really, it’s embarrassing low. Sand Squall should be a blast finisher, and tempests should gain resistance from some source.
Overall, overloads are very lackluster (Earth is fine IMO), and despite people being afraid of powercreep, tempests just don’t do more damage than a Lava Font ele anyways…
It’s about time! This is the major selling feature for a lot of players.
I hope that is actually the incomplete version for sylvari. It looks like someone forgot the textures.
I suspect it actually glows like crazy, and ofc you won’t see that on the datamined version. It’d explain the simple and plain textures, as the actual texture is added in postprocessing.
Wooo sweet!
It will be at PAX Prime (August, 29th). I’d like to be hyped, but I got a bad feeling about this…
What are your thoughts guys?
What’s the problem with selling outfits? They’ve stated no more skins from gemstore, only outfits, skins will be earned doing actual in-game content.
Check attachment! Time to save up those 800gems, eh?
Coolest part is that it behaves like Cultural, changing depending on the race!
Another thought that struck me is: will we be seeing a marriage system some day? Who knows? Table very large (Johanson, Colin).

As a tempest, I don’t feel strong. If it’s only a support spec, then I’ll pass it by.
@Windu, @Lara, that’s because it indicates devs are listening. Even when they say they are reading, it attracts more people when they see a red post from a dev or someone from community team who suggests they’ll pass the information onwards.
My thoughts so far:
- Elite specs: Chronomancer and reaper look by far the most well-designed specs. Chronomancer is too awesome I just can’t compliment enough, shield is amazing and well-tuned, and its gameplay looks fantastic. Reaper looks very synergized and skills are creative, you have interesting choices in the traits to customize it even further. Dragonhunter felt a bit slow, but I liked the traits as they open interesting effects. Tempests looked the most underwhelming to me. I know it might sound sad to say, but the overload idea isn’t very good… sitting in an attunement to get a skill which causes less damage than Lava Font is the most depressing thing you ever created (I’m sorry but it’s the truth). Even in zerker it felt weak. I had a feeling that Overload Air could have a different behavior than sitting still as a Lightning Field (perhaps periodically applying retaliation to allies while it’s after-effect lasts?). Most traits not focused on overloads looked fine-tuned and worth grabbing. I hope you do something about the overloads, they don’t feel worth casting… damage coefficient, and channeling unprotected are points you should review. Warhorn skills felt much promising! I feel the lack of might generation (as an ele!) a bit odd, but some skills offer interesting support gameplay. I have a feeling that damage-focused tempests will be possible with air due to #5, and that’s a great thing because not everyone will play tempests for support! And earth #5 allows eles to drop Glyph of Storms (Sandstorm) for damage mitigation. Shouts are awesome, but I still feel the need to grab two cantrips (Ether Renewal for condi. removal, and Armor of Earth to channel overloads, therefore wasting a slot). You could change Hardy Conduit to grant 3 stacks of stability for the channeling duration, or 3sec. Really, in a sense elite specs are already limiting, don’t limit our utility choices because of the mechanics, it’s unfair.
- Verdant Brink and PvE: Verdant Brink is amazing! I love it so much already. The environment, the itzel, the day/night gameplay. The mobs you’ve designed already reject pure zerker, and this is a good step. Smokescale requires positioning not to get melt down, and the mordrem archer guys are awesome, their rapid fire and line AoE are very deadly. Raptors are lovely, you could try and do groups of three evolved raptors that ignore direct damage. THAT would be very tense! Although events were mostly bugged, I could do some sort of meta-event (I think?) that’s Colossal Vine. I like the Marionette-inspired split-up events you’re adopting, the only thing that’s beyond your powers is making people listen. They fail most of the times because they’re just smashing buttons, but I think it’s somewhat because of guaranteed beta access for pre-purchasers, and it’s likely we won’t see this happen after release.
- Mastery system: It’s taking quite some time. It feels time-consuming, but I think that’s fine (and expected). I’ll have to see how you work out exp gains to balance progress, it’s difficult to tell how it feels right now since bugs limited our progress towards maxing masteries, and there is that bug that you get to a city, grab the bouncy chest, port to Verdant Brink and open it there, making you progress faster.
- Map rewards: It’s bugged at times, and I didn’t understand what was going on (not much communication though the game, UI felt lacking).
Sonar could be improved with higher tiers, and this thing is already optional because it’s tied to underwater. Not everyone likes it. I love it, and it was a selling point for me (I’m too attached to movement fluidness).
Loot should be mailed to you instead of losing it due to inventory full.
Hi, I play melee, I use “Shock and Aftershock!” to grant everyone around me a Magnetic Aura, it kills that mob almost instantly. Good bye.
I hope all devs read this! I love those mobs, and surely I will master combat after some time, but as they are they’re a fine example of how mobs should be. I just feel bad because my melee setup can’t help against that giant dinosaur knockdown charging at me haha, but I can live with that. Stun helps.
That is a wonderful suggestion! Some people claim there is a difficulty with 3D perception underwater, so having a way to echo distance between mobs/places and the player is cool. Maybe somehow highlight mobs differently FOR THE PLAYER and the sonar echoes their positions? Then they could figure out how distant they are.
If carefully implemented, it could solve many issues.
Combine the three with 50 Mystic Forge Stone= Mursaat Relic. Consumes all three and have a change at spitting a Spirit Shard. xD
I should’ve farmed more skill points… today we’re levelling and gaining NOTHING. Nicely done, ANet.
I just think it would be fair to have the weapon use free from the specialization.
That’s tightly related to balance. There is a reason for them to be locked into new elite specs, otherwise the new weapons would be handed for free. This is, they’ve laid out a framework for elite specs by balancing a plethora of build compositions and got to a point where locking weapon to an elite spec felt “balanced”, if they allowed non-spec’d characters to use those weapons there could be a power creep of some sort.
I don’t know how the balancing team came up with this system, and what their reasoning is, but I’m certain that they analyzed this thorough, not simply threw this “lock”.
Because Air is fine they take all the other attunements are fine as well. I’d pull a chair and wait… wait a lot.
It’s interesting they market and consider this the first BWE, when we already had a BWE for staff revenants. :P
Geee… no, you don’t get a free GW2 core, it either upgrades your already owned core game, or comes as the whole package.
GW2 is different in which the goal is the journey since level 1, so it kind of doesn’t make sense to consider maxlevelling a “character boost”, specially when it’s so easy compared to hard level grinding MMOs.
Actually it’s a bug having to do with reordering the story. It’s just a number, ignore it. It’s really level 80. It just says level 70.
So, it will remain as such..? I can ignore, but it’s… disturbing. xD
That would be the most awesome thing in this lovely API, though!
Transformation is understood as a non-functional mechanic, thus traits and certain items wouldn’t affect it. I’m more inclined to believe it will be Survival, maybe even Spirits?
In Journal it displays “Victory or Death” as step 7, and it’s the last one, shouldn’t the last one be 8? I’m confused on what’s going on. :|
It would be hilarious if it involved account-bound, solo-closed content. hahah
I’m sure there will be reward tracks to help acquiring legendary fractal backpiece.
As long as legendaries aren’t stronger (stats) than ascended, make them earned HOWEVER you want. I don’t care. Account-bound the hell out of it.
I don’t want PRECURSOR WEAPONS and LEGENDARIES to be sold. The crafting materials is fine. Praise ANet.

Gold-Fed doesn’t make sense. Copper-Fed and Silver-Fed both salvage all the items, the difference is % of recovering upgrades, and not the item quality. Therefore, it would only make sense to upgrade Copper/Silver to work with Ascended.
Not likely since they went out of their way to state that you had to use ascended salvage kit
Uh-oh… I foresee a lot of complaints much like SAB Infinite Continue Coin, specially for those who purchased Silver-Fed. If they add a recipe to transform it to an ascended one, though…
Will we be able to salvage ascended items using either Copper-Fed or Silver-Fed infinite salvage tools purchased from Gem Store?
Trading Post won’t load a certain item’s name, and will remain loading forever. For me it is the Permanent Hair Stylist item.
