I’ll just get the meta and that’s all… I’m only interested in lore at this point, marionette’s a laggy zergball despite how “epic” it may look but I must confess that ArenaNet is slowly getting there when it comes to open world real challenges (at least the zergs are a bit more well-split).
A “Library,” perhaps introduced as part of an upcoming Living World release, seems like a lore-friendly means to allow players to experience the “temporary” content. However, a couple of issues (at least) would have to be solved.
- Lack of rewards might very well render the implementation moot. Many players have let ANet know in no uncertain terms that they are not interested in content just for “fun.” If there are no rewards, how under-utilized would the new feature be?
- Some of the prior content is designed for herd play. These portions would either have to be redesigned to scale all the way down to one player, or left out.
1) To feed the hunger for rewards there could be an update that consists of cataloging all the information based on many tyrians all around the world, then you could receive an Asura Librarian mini… for me that would be more than enough.
2) Tell the story from the most neutral possible point of view, just like website’s short stories, they would have to carefully place the events in order not to mess up stuff though.
Furthermore they could add special ties to this library as patches go to increase its utility, there could be Priory scholars specifically gathering information from every patch or every arc/story, therefore increasing content and encouraging reading the lore.
It would be awesome! I thought about a personal acc-bound story records book, but a place for that would be very nice, lots of Durmand Priory studying…

I’m at work don’t make me laugh. >.>
When they can’t nerf something, they buff the opposite and change mechanics, therefore nerfing what we initially thought hadn’t been nerfed.
Wells are great, both the damage ones and the util ones – but the universal problem with wells is that they’re on pretty long cooldowns, specially the utility ones (power/darkness); there are better classes for blinding (thief, guard) and condi removal (guard, mesmer); and the well cooldown trait is on a line that isn’t great for DPS builds.
AoE fear is almost never useful, breaking up a stacked group of mobs that you’re dps-ing is the exact opposite of what you want to do.
Hey you missed elementalists there! We can remove conditions and heal pretty regularly and, if one so desires, they can set up a blinding build (yes it exists: staff air #2 + glyph of storms (earth) + evasive arcane (air))!
But I get your point, Wells have always been a problem when you try to blast on fire fields/water fields, despite they’re being VERY good (the stability one!).
The problem with adding critical resistance, is that it’ll make zerker gear worthless, for the frustration of all players who have invested for zerker ascended gear, while the real design problems will remain unfixed. So players will simply mitigate to the best dps gear that doesn’t relies on criticals: power + condition damage + X.
Yeah you’re right. But it isn’t that easy to simply copycat how PvP works, in PvP we have real skilled players that has the ability to mitigate damage by outplaying unskilled ones, PvE challenge is ruled by AI so more toughness/vitality is a must, unless it refers to Mai Trin or Liadri… man, did I sweat in these ones! :P
I’m sorry, but this post feels like it’s six months old at the very least — even the “popular” pve meta has evolved a lot since then. If you’re still seeing 3w/1g/1m group requests those players haven’t looked up builds in forever. Warrior DPS is nowhere near the best; a single warrior is all a group needs for banners, beyond that you’re better off bringing other classes.
The only class that’s somewhat sub-par in dungeons is Necro, and that’s because they have no real party utility, and no vigor/evade/block/invuln which makes survival much harder (specially now that you can’t tank killing blows in DS anymore).
I don’t quite know a lot about necros, but aren’t Wells good for party utility? And AoE fears? Take it easy on me, I’m just asking.
Dredge already have self-defense skills and apply AoE boons regularly (actually some of them will always apply boons on every encounter). However this shouldn’t be a rule to balance difficulty for beginners and don’t stress too much the content as a whole, i.e. boon application, healing, etc every time. These changes should affect a selective group of mobs to add spice when necessary/convenient or when it fits better along with the content itself’s design.
The “problem” here is tha GW2 is a game where several weapon’s skillsets are balanced around the assumption that the enemy will always have boons on themselves and you will always have conditions on yourself. They are balanced this way, because that’s exactly how it happens in pvp, where most of the balancing revolves around. Boons and conditions are one of the most important gameplay mechanics in pvp, by far and away.
GW2’s combat with boons and conditions on both sides has a completely different playing depth than without them. If pve can’t offer enemies that can apply conditions or boons consistently, as it happens in pvp, then balancing both at the same time will be a lot harder, and build diversity will suffer.
In PvE the amount of toughness/vitality or whatever kind of different resistance other than boons make up for that unfortunately… I agree with you, but right now their “resistance” comes in shape of raw numbers completely ignoring boons system.
However I still believe they could balance the game to have both – toughness/vit + boons whenever fitting. Another idea that struck here is to add Critical Resistance, completely wiping the zerker meta and opening space for more varied builds.
The problem with the zerker meta, is that zerkers have too much survival. There’s no need for support or control builds to exist to mitigate damage. There’s no need for defensive stats to mitigate damage. And condition damage gets indirectly useless this way, because zerkers never have to spend time kiting, escaping, weakened, blocked, etc.
To fix this problem, PvE needs to learn a bit from PvP:
- Enemies need to have auto-attacks.
- Enemies need to apply more boons and more conditions on a regular basis.
- Enemies need to have some sort of self-defense skills.
Dredge already have self-defense skills and apply AoE boons regularly (actually some of them will always apply boons on every encounter). However this shouldn’t be a rule to balance difficulty for beginners and don’t stress too much the content as a whole, i.e. boon application, healing, etc every time. These changes should affect a selective group of mobs to add spice when necessary/convenient or when it fits better along with the content’s design itself.
It’s not zerker that is OP, it’s the dodge and block mechanics that are OP and other builds that are UP.
In PvE, that is.Introduce a new, widely spread npc-only condition that degenerates endurance, and stacks in both power and duration, so that parties will need condition management. Make vigor a counterplay, rather than the only boon outside aegis you need to survive anything, because you can dodge even Grenth-Priest killshot debuff from Arah4 with a well timed dodge.
Introduce more immobilisation in fights, especially boss fights rather than trash which is skipped most of the time anyway; fixing that will come later.Introduce condition overflow mechanic, through which bleeding will translate into direct damage when the target is already on 25 bleeding stacks. Do the same for burning and poison, and limit their duration stacks to 3.
Make 25+ vulnerability cause weakness, or take down a stack of defiance. Reduce the duration stacks of chill, weakness, blind and introduce a new effect on going higher than that – a 0,5s daze on fifth weakness stack, for example.Decrease total hp on bosses, but introduce mechanics that would either limit their hp loss (can’t lose more than 1% hp in a single hit because of iron skin; increased toughness; immunity to vulnerability and weakness), or pop a new twist in a fight (when a specific boss loses more than 1% hp in a single hit, it becomes enraged, or summons minions, or deals pbaoe explosion).
This is NOT something to introduce on EVERY boss, but examples of something that might work.Remove toughness from the aggro formula; make bosses pick targets more randomly or make damage generate actually more attention than simply proximity and toughness/armor level.
Your Condition Overflow mechanic is awesome! If designed properly it would benefit some builds and add more variety to current existing metas. I was talking about Burning being more effective with some friends, as when you apply burning 5 times (current instances limit for some conditions/boons) the target would suffer a Fire Nova Strike causing massive damage or at least a decent damage, or a plausible damage while spreading its current burning (along with its duration) to nearby foes.
Don’t nerf, BUFF whatever you want but don’t nerf zerk !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree, but we DO need a revamp on how zerkers fit into PvE meta. We can’t simply let burst-dmg trains take over the whole meta, if it is to exist one…
Caution with this one, I usually run into two situations:
- Water Fields example: When I WvW, most people will want to blast my water fields so they can get self-healed. This triggers the following situation: If I didn’t drop any field (e.g. I’m a warrior) and blast on top of this water+dark fields that were dropped in the same place, which should apply?
- Fire Fields example: When I’m doing dungeons or even in WvW there may be cases where the zerg I’m with will ask for fire fields to stack up might for the next choking point (i.e. where zergs crash into each other). This triggers the same situation above: If I dropped my fire fields and someone else dropped a water field, which one would take priority for OTHER people? Last one dropped?
Jon, how about this (aggro-related): based on another concurrent pre-requisite, when this mob receives an attack that takes 10% of his life at once it will immediately rage at the offending player making so that they need to be cautious when bursting, or at least diminish the rate bursts occur. This would proc too much with simple mobs so I’d imagine applying this to champions and legendaries only.
Controlling incoming damage by a sort of “payback” would then slow down the zerker-past-everything-and-emerge-victorious meta.
Jon, please be careful not to shift zerker-only meta to PVT-only meta. I’ve always felt a class-gear synergy with the group was lacking, maybe this is where your fixing hammer should mostly hit on. Also, note that Fractals of the Mists (high levels) is currently the only PvE content I’m aware of that requires at least more caution with positioning and organization, but again high levels do demand more resistance so most people are likely to run PVT gear (I wish I could see gear usage statistics heh).
I sincerely appreciate a lot that you take your time to look deeper into this issue, since a few months after release zerker has stablished as the most successful gear meta and changing it will likely revamp how groups should work and coordinate.
Furthermore, as of now we also have another “meta-related” issue: stacking. If you ask people how to complete a dungeon or a specific content they’ll tell you: simply stack around this corner, this way all mobs will come at you and with little defense we can smash them to ashes because of high damage output. I’d appreciate if you took the time to look into that too!

It would be cool if some dev could comment on this as it is much requested.
I find myself switching attunement mostly because the boons given by this particular trait sinergizes with the situation, it’s like a must and really gives the elementalist flexibility as when he’s going to get a real high damage he attune to earth and get 33% dmg reduction (good), if he’s getting too low on health he switches to water (regen scales with healing power, awesome!), he needs to increase a little distance from target so he attunes to air (some mobs seem to have increased speed lately), or just wants to burst a little more damage so he switches to fire.
Elemental Attunement represents the whole idea behind the playstyle an ele should go for: switch attunements as situation demands. I find mostly water and earth vital, because I’m a light armor with low vitality so it’s not weird to want to have extra defense in your kitten nal.
Even the cantrips symbolizes how “fragile” this class is, all of these skills remove conds or grants survival, at some point a really good developer foresaw we would need extra ways to stay alive so he designed these splendid utilities.
Approximately 97% of skills have a base damage accompanying the condition, approximately 99% of #1 skills do enough damage to get you below 90% before you even noticed you existed.
DS is not worth, you have immunity till you sight someone, maybe toughness or vitality are broken for elementalists (please debug elementalist’s attributes before putting to live server), else it’s just another useless thing people will never use.
Signet of Water is a total shame, it should be as the other guy said – increase healing by about 10% for 30sec -, Diamond Skin is such a bs, it fails too much to make a difference, remove this trait and put a protection every 10sec or something, anything is better than “90% threshold”. lol
I personally love newbies and find them adorable.
Omg that picture makes me love newbies. YAY <3
Please, make skill #1 not spend charges so these weapons have some use… even if you tone down the effects cause by skill #1. I’ve tested Earth Shield today and it’s very good in that you can control mobs aggroing them and still tank through invulnerability and dazes.
Elementalist’s Fiery Greatsword can be cast underwater, but it doesn’t appear on conjurer’s hands nor can someone pick it. Removed underwater restriction accidentally?
ArenaNet is structuring the ele in a very squishy way as patches come in and out, we’ll turn out to be an even more laughable class until we’re completely useless; changes here and there, putting crap and taking last good things an ele had… awesome plan…
Diamond Skin is horrible, you can’t even take advantage of immunity since EVERY attack that deals conditions also has a basic damage that’s pretty much enough to get you below 90% in a blink of an eye. I’ll pass.
Just wanted to say I got this issue fixed after upgrading from Win7 32-bits to 64-bits (sorry for late reply but thought someone would find it useful).
W2Z2 has a shortcut, for God’s sake. World 2 had some annoying bugs but they were fixed and many parts were simplified. I feel sorry for Josh…
Biased opinions are not worth caring about, that’s all I have to say. Have a nice day.
What will happen to the expensive exotics?

Everyone KNEW that ascended weapons would come to the game, as will gear, why the whinning? LOL
Nothing will ever beat Halloween, but SAB is 2nd place for sure. <3
Sick and tired of more mini-games for achievements crap. Capping my Black Widow in GW1’s UW was an achievement. Playing silly little games of capture the flag simply isn’t. GW2 running out of steam for me.
The really bad part is how disproportionate the achievement points for the mindless “click F 150 times” temporary stuff is compared to real achievements. A perfect example is Paper Dragon (destroy 150 dragon pinatas) being worth more Achievement Points than earning/equipping three – yes three – Legendary weapons. That’s absurd.
Awarding more achiev. points for legendary is completely kitten , that’s as silly as giving away 50 points for each HoM achievement (yes, this won’t likely be erased from game history ever).
OMG! Highwinter, you made me wonder… ARE THEY GOING TO BUILD A FAMOUS kitten GUILD LIKE DESTINY’S EDGE? o_o
I want to be surprised, I want someone to dethrone Queen Jennah and wage a dark era for at least 3 or so living story chapters. Please bring a bit of destruction or cold war to spice things up a little, SURPRISE US!
GW2 player here and voting for Evon Gnashblade, want to see Fall of Abbadon so badly!
GW1 is still available, go have fun. Lets have new stories in GW2
You know? I don’t feel like going to GW1, Evon Gnashblade ftw! \o

Any nerfs to CoF1 are welcome changes.
They hit a nerve, didn’t they? hehe
Tbh I have a mesmer just to farm CoF, but with this change in place I’ll be glad to go throughout the dungeons to grind gold, it’s grinding still but more diverse, I’m SO hoping they add more challenge to dungeons that I completely forget there’s gold at the end, this or they’ll break my heart.
Some precursor/legendary owners must be pulling their hair. hahah :P
A guildmate of mine finally, after 8 or so months made his Twilight. I warned him, but noooo
As a legendary holder I’m happy because now I have something to spend my gold on.
I’m also holding some precursors because I think they will update the current legendary skins BEFORE they come out with new ones.
I don’t touch Trading Post because I think it’s ultimately boring, I’ve tried grinding and got near to 200g but then I grew bored of trying because The Legend seemed so far everytime I tried. I just put my hopes on RNG drops, but no luck, now I’m sincerely losing interest in crafting legendaries.
Some precursor/legendary owners must be pulling their hair. hahah :P
I like how some of the new skins go into the achievement pane “skin bank” to be pulled out whenever. That’s how all skins for weapons and armor should work. If it worked that way, I wouldn’t complain about all the back skins we’ve seen lately since they could go into the skin bank. But you’re right as it is now, we’ve had an over-abundance of back items.
Wardrobe ideas?
I think effects should be made carefully, we don’t want them to overlap, right? Either they add weapon-focused effects or skill-focused effects, either is fine for me.
7500ish, been playing since headstart with over 2500 +/- hours spent.
Missed ‘Toypocalipse Canceled’. /sigh
As interesting as Fall of Abbadon sounds,I still wanna know about Thaumanova Reactor, anyone?o.o
Abbadon was a GOD! I didn’t play GW1 so I’m more interested in him, the reactor can wait. :o
snip
I’m thinking, it’s lucky for Anet there are a lot more people like me than like you.
Wow someone got real statistics or is simply based on forum opinions.
Hahah well it made me laugh but yea I agree, we only got one back ANet!
Well, different from the 500 extra AP’s given to feed many GW1 players greed, I have nothing against gifting people who purchase gems with RL money as long as it’s not gamebreaking for the rest of playerbase.
I’ll pass this on to my entire guild and make sure each vote goes to Evon.
@Edit
Hopefully they’ll adjust fractals, perhaps polish them a bit more and give them a new purpose, as of now I have very few reasons to ever do them.
(edited by Valento.9852)
philosophy they chose.
What philosophy?
Well, no gear treadmill and no sort of progression, many people like the way it is now (explore and redo stuff), but many others don’t.
<————————-WOW and Rift are back that way. If continuing gear treadmills and constant progression is what you want then go back to wow or play rift cause you are in the wrong game. You people are a fickle lot.. Rift was bashed to no end for being similar to wow and here you all are wanting to turn GW2 into wow… The day they turn this game into wow is the day I quit. Anet were very up front and informative at the beginning and long before launch that gw2 will not have a gear grind, so you people have no excuse to complain. You knew when you pressed that play button that this is a no gear grind game.. What? You thought you would just cry and whine til they give you your gear grind like a bunch of spoiled brats? pfft!!!! Get over it and stop trying to ruin this game. GW1 has the same philosophy.. Once I had avatars in their prestige armor those days of constant searching for new upgrades were over and that is the way I like it. I don’t want to change my armor like you change underwear. I like concentrating on playing the kitten game instead of having to constantly worry about gearing up every freakin frackin level..pffft…
I don’t want GW2 to turn into WoW-clone, I just said I have no solution to create a better endgame given what the game stands for… actually all my suggestions have been posted in Suggestion Forum, while respecting the ideas behind the game, some people just should stop nerd-raging. lol
