I would like to jump in and let the devs know that how you arranged rewards and mistlock instabilities really pushed an experience that allows players to get a grasp of how challenging content looks like going forward. It’s really a wonderful path between dungeons and raids, and it does act like a ladder. So I’d like to congratulate the Fractals Team, you guys exceeded my expectations!

Hey there. I’m from Brazil, and I’ve been lagging a lot in these last two weeks from 3pm (PDT) until 7pm. What if HoT maps weren't as difficult?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Valento.9852

I disagree we should be evading all attacks, we have a health poor and a specific healing skill slot for a reason. Only way to “evade” some mobs’ attacks is to bypass it, simply by waypointing, passing by from a distance, or stealthing past them. You should avoid them if you don’t want to face them. What I’ve been thinking now is that maybe their respawn is a bit too fast if someone wants to clear out the area to admire the environment, take screenshots, etc., but then that’s not really tied to the “difficulty” factor.

Since there are quite a few mastery points/masteries threads I thought I’d start another one, but aiming to cover all issues at once.

So, which would be this system’s flaws? If you can, number them from most to least critical. Be considerate as this is a system that strives to provide a sense of progression. Also, don’t forget you don’t need to do rank gold in all adventures to max out 166.

What if HoT maps weren't as difficult?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Valento.9852

There would be positive effects but I think there would be negative ones too. Who’s to say the negative effects would balance with or be less than the positive ones to justify nerfing the HoT difficulty? That’s a rhetorical question; no one is in a position to claim one way or the other.

In theory, what I do think would be a win (ignoring real game factors like server side resources, etc …) would be to offer two levels of content for specific things. I would be all for allowing players to open server instances of certain maps, inviting friends in them and completing content at elevated or eased off difficulties, in open world, dungeons and fractals.

Crazy? Not really. If http://www.anarchy-online.com/ can do it over 8 years ago with it’s ancient game architecture, well … companies like Anet could do it too, perhaps easier.

I thought about something somewhat related to this, but focusing on map metas. It would be cool if you had an option in “Y” game menu that you could set “Meta” or “Chill”, and the game would arrange players with same settings to the same map, creating shards as needed but preserving the players’ intent. This way, besides putting friends and guildies in the same overflow, it would primarily slot players based on this “Map mode” setting, and it would at least reduce the number of times we witness meta fails because many people went AFK, or just wouldn’t do the meta and would do heropoint train instead.

What if HoT maps weren't as difficult?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Valento.9852

Valento.9852

The difficulty level encourages team play and has made me more interested in PVE again. It is more tolerable if you don’t use berserker stats but I still do anyway. My gunflame berserker warrior breezes through most of the content, and my core elementalist in some cases does even better(I don’t like using tempest for hard content).

I can’t speak much on the other classes. I did briefly try a reaper and I was able to solo even a few of the heropoint bosses with a minionmaster build. HoT is the endgame pve. It’s beyond Orr, beyond SW… and if you want to play it then either arrive properly equipped, or grab a friend or guildie and adventure together.

I don’t do HoT content without always having food and utilities. I just use the basic cheap food wvwers use with +70 vitality and hp regen then any sharpening stone. If the difficulty level is lowered then it becomes faceroll and boring. Right now I actually feel accomplished if I can defend a camp in VB night alone. One thing I do think needs to be toned down are the frogs that teleport, evade ranged attacks, and nearly one-shot you but nothing else has really stood out.

I agree with this particular frog. They’re hard to deal with, and becomes a serious problem for solo’ing if they come in veteran forms because of massive evasiveness and high DPS + veteran category stats make them way too resilient.

Overall, I think most posts are aiming at map layouts, not mobs per se, which is a good thing. Density balance is a very sensible point they should tweak. What I do hope they make right is, while working on map layouts, don’t break them into a linear boring paths of grass.

Most environments in Tyria are like that, and I really LOVE all the maps, but it’s about time they change the navigation to something more elaborate/interesting. Problem really lies in the complexity PLUS roaming groups of mobs (notable in TD), they shouldn’t force us to deal with terrain and mobs at the same time, unless it’s some specific part of the map. Some caverns are dark too, and this increases the confusion.

If one could travel TD with a 1st person camera, I’m sure you all would be amazed, but in truth playing such map can be frustrating, whether the mini-map is unclear, or you’re swarmed by deadly groups of chak.

Why are people so afraid of raiding?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Valento.9852

Valento.9852

I’m not a fan of raid ‘mechanics’, timers, stupid one hit skills, circles, dps checks or enrage timers, or waiting hours not playing a game in my valuable spare time or waiting for a long time just to have some elitist quit after the first attempt, or twitch mechanics, etc. Or learning patterns. or areas without any sort of guide for first timers so they have a chance of what to expect without having to watch 20 hours of UTube videos from some twitch fanboy with a terrible taste in music showing how easy something is with 0 ping.

So I don’t raid. In my younger days I was heavily involved in all sorts of raids, leading guilds, organising 60-80 people for weekly pvp, etc but no longer have the endless time to dedicate to what is, after all, just a game.

I can understand the allure for those that do. It does lead to elitism and elitist guilds, but no one is forcing you to join them so it doesn’t really matter. Are they any better than you at other aspects of the game? Probably not. What they are good at is learning what works when and having the reactions and armor, etc along with a decent raid leader.

I don’t feel the need to raid any more. That level of stress for some meaningless pixels just doesn’t interest me any more. But if that’s you thing, then learn what the meta builds are, spend the money and time to get the build, learn the patterns and mechanics and away you go.

Precisely. Raids aren’t for everyone because not everyone want to take time to learn and gear themselves to do it. Time is extremely relative. Some people find it boring to spend their time playing faceroll open world content, others don’t. Some people dislike the commitment raids require, others don’t. All about tastes.

CC tutorial for dummies is needed

what i want is stat detail on how much damage the CC does to breakbar…

Freeze – 60 * Duration
Stun/Daze/Knockback/Knockdown/Launch/Pull/Transform – 100 * Duration
Stone – 150 * Duration
Wards – 150 per pass
All of these happen in 1 go, so a 2 seconds stone = 300 Instant Damage
Anything under a second is rounded up to a second

Fear – 100 DPS
Taunt – 75 DPS
Immobilze – 50 DPS
Slow – 50 DPS
Chill – 33 DPS
Blind – 20 DPS
Weakness – 20DPS
Cripple – 10DPS

Its why I love Venom Share with Thief, 5 people use CC whether they like it or not. Immo, Chill and 10 applications of Stone. So good when people don’t understand what CC is.

What if HoT maps weren't as difficult?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Valento.9852

Valento.9852

Since 2014 it’s become known that ANet had hired someone in order to bring more challenging content to the game, and we’ve seen some effects of that as time passed. It’s also common sense that, although we want complex enemy behavior, it’s easier said than done, specifically considering the very nature of MMOs. This has all been done in response to a huge outcry for challenging content ever since people realized dungeons+fractals weren’t really examples of difficulty.

With all that being said, how would you guys (both veterans, and non-veterans) receive a news that HoT map mobs’ AI/group comps have been changed in order to provide easier encounters? How would the community perceive HoT encounters if they were to be downgraded in difficulty to match Central Tyria? Would you be against it or in favor? What your suggestions would be to improve the maps?

Why are people so afraid of raiding?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Valento.9852

Valento.9852

There’s a huge difference between being an elitist jerk, and actually striving to kill the bosses. The latter requires a specific setup, or else you’ll make it impossible to kill the boss. Specific gear setup/build is required to succeed, not because someone is a jerk. Raids are about beating the content using appropriate builds, and although there are different varieties, the specific setup still exists and it’s needed more than anything else in PvE.

It turns out you aren’t really supposed to play the way you want, you are supposed to play the role you want, within a certain framework. And this is perfectly fine. This is the very nature of raids in MMOs. If you disagree, please proceed to doing other content that fits your tastes, raids won’t change because it would defeat the purpose of what it is.

W2Z2 - Infinite stone glitch

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Valento.9852

Right here. If you happen to miss the evade and get knocked back to the right by closest stone, you will be locked in a tight spot and will be infinitely knocked back with no chance of getting up again. You really can’t use any skills, dig a bunny, dodge, etc. You are infinitely locked. I missed the evade a few times and had to restart. Since my ISP isn’t great and lag sometimes happen, it quickly became very frustrating to get past this very part because I had to restart many times now.

If you could move that stone a bit farther so we have room to move it would be appreciated. Thank you!

Tribulation mode is not hard.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Valento.9852

Valento.9852

…so what would hard actually look like, to you?

Probably removing (most of) the hidden part of all the traps. As it is, it’s a test of memory, not reflexes or strategy. Not even a test of observation and attention like Pain Cliffs is.

You find a guide, because otherwise you’ll be dying a lot, and you memorize the path. Done.

If it were challenging/hard content, rather than punishing content, then you wouldn’t need a guide to avoid a hundred deaths.

That might be hard mode for the regular game, but it wouldn’t fit the Zeldathic theme. In fact, the entire reason I don’t like games like that is that they are set up to be nearly identical each time, that the entire challenge of any mode is about learning the route and remembering where to turn, twist, hide, fight, avoid fights, etc.

Again, I think the point here is that the OP doesn’t like the challenge of tribulation mode. That should be okay with them and with us — SAB isn’t for everyone and Tribulation Mode is for a smaller subset.

Just because we don’t like something doesn’t mean it’s poorly designed or inherently flawed.

tl;dr it’s okay not to like SAB and it’s okay not to like Tribulation Mode. That doesn’t mean they aren’t “hard” and “harder.”

Exactly. And it is not meant to be super-ultra hard content with varying randomic encounters and difficult simultaneous mechanics. It’s fine as it is.

I think that is why they called it tribulation mode rather than hard mode.

Tribulation means to go through suffering or pain (which I think they accomplished with the mode) – so the warning is right there in the name.

Remember, SAB was never intended to be serious content. It’s an homage to old console games that started as a bit of an April Fool’s Day joke by a developer in his spare time.

And yet, I hold this content dearly in my heart since it first became available. Second to first Halloween event it was the best seasonal content ever!

Reseting raid instances

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Valento.9852

Valento.9852

I see. I thought they’d want ANet to reset reward caps, not the playable content. If they don’t touch rewards then I agree with you yes.

No usually player ask that because they want to continue to practice a boss even if they killed it during the week and they can’t do that unless they find someone that didn’t kill the boss during the week. In the case of a team that mean leaving someone aside or asking for someone to start the raid, but not to participate. Which is not ideal in both case.

Yes, I overlooked that part about actually finding a raid opener. I thought the whole intent was to farm magnetite shard, my bad.

Reseting raid instances

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Valento.9852

Valento.9852

Please, don’t do that. People are asking this in reddit and it’s ridiculous. See, I’m not a hardcore raider (have 434 shards in months), and I’m still learning (killed Gorse once now), but it’s just unconceivable to allow for such ridiculous magnetite shard farming just because some people can’t wait for weekly reset.

The issue is that currently you can reset the raid instance, but it’s mildly inconvenient to do so. You just have to get someone who hasn’t cleared the raid to join your squad, open the raid instance, and then leave your squad. Easy enough, especially if you are in a large guild or if you offer a few gold for an opener in LFG, but still a little annoying.

Also it’s impossible for “shard farming” (is that really a thing?) to be ridiculous, because magnetite caps out at 100 per week. If you aren’t hitting that cap every week you are making a mistake, since magnetite shards are extremely valuable.

Your suggestion would completely lock me out of raiding after I full clear both wings. Raids are almost all that I play. Are you suggesting I should stop playing?
