Yeah… I agree with OP. No matter how much white knights try to wave the freedom flag, you will fall behind by playing your very squishy builds. Differently from Guild Wars 1, where you could play several builds and be asked to customize and then be successful with them, in GW2 you have cookie cutter builds. There isn’t a sense of usefulness like GW1, no matter how people try to fool themselves – or yourself – you will be limited to a hard max of 2 builds, and ANet simply won’t try to change it.

All they want is PvP. PvE equals flashy effects and tiring cutscenes, the gameplay falls behind a looooong way.

The formula they’ve come up thus far:
PvP = Quite a few useful builds around weapons useless in PvE.
PvE = The leftover weapons to make a role in PvE as to say you have interesting (flashy) weapons, and those many stat equipment useless when you have Viper/Zerker. Even if you use other combos, they’re less than 10% the game has to offer, but the problem is that itemization vs. combat in this game is so poorly-made it’s a joke. No matter how free you feel when playing, the “all-class-can-heal” and the prevailing “downed state will save me anyways” thoughts hold this game from being successful in PvE.

It will take a lot from them to properly bury these stupid ideas and come up with real challenging mechanics, because they’re so caught up in their perfect fantasy world that they seem unable to see what a real PvE looks like.

So yeah, I’m sort of tired from typing this all over, but there are a plethora of aspects (including others not mentioned) which play a significant role in the boredom feeling. And no, it is not your fault to feel tired/bored/disgusted. They should’ve known better than this when creating the PvE.

Guild Wars 3?

A third game for Guild Wars universe makes absolutely no sense at all. They have the formula: free core game, paid xpacs, and bi-monthly updates. They just have to expand and separate kittening PvP skills from PvE skills for once!

Game won’t be able to progress proactively as long as they try to balance PvP/PvE in one go.

What systems could skills be expanded upon?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Valento.9852

Valento.9852

Hey, I’ve been playing GW1 quite a lot in the past few months and loving it. The way skills are laid out in GW2 is so much more strict and I know that is so because of balance. However, the acquisition of skills and the creativity in GW2 skill systems are so much shallow that it is completely impossible to attribute it better than GW1, no matter how you put it. So I’d like to ask from the community: what systems (either GW1-inspired or not) could expand the way we acquire, manage, and use skills in this game? What skill properties could be improved/redesigned/elaborated to make for more interesting gameplay? Are there any particular skill behaviors you would like to see in the game?

Matchmaking: It's about time you fix it

in WvW

Posted by: Valento.9852

Valento.9852

Ok, so before anything I’d like to say I’m not fully seasoned in WvW (you’re free to quote me there for all you want), and even though I experienced WvW to an extent since game launch, I think the way it progressed shows a strong failure in matchmaking down the road.

I do not know the specifics, and how each variable interacts in matchmaking algorithm. All I know is that you seem to consider only ranking points, and not population. If you’re aiming for a balanced matchmaking, then it’s not working, specially towards low pop servers. You should really reevaluate what you’re doing with matchmaking and increase server population importance in the algorithm. It’s destroying fun for low-pop servers.

I am from Eredon Terrace and we’re facing Yak’s Bend, for example, not sure if I’m utterly wrong here, but they faceroll us because of numbers, not quality. They’re poorly-skilled, but numbers will always faceroll skill.

Just wanted to pass this feedback to the devs. Hope you come up with a better matchmaking system in the future.

Thanks for reading.

I've been wondering 'bout replayability

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Valento.9852

I’m a headstart gamer, and I’ve seen most of GW2 throughout the years. If you count closed betas, I’m here for more than 4 years and counting. Seen how content flow has degraded this much, being as honest as possible, I’ve been wondering: is GW2 a game you should visit yearly? The pace of content releases is so low that sometimes I feel bad for the devs, because I believe they put so much effort, but it turns out so little content to do. It seems like better strategy to wait until the game stacks up in content and try it out after one year or so, so it doesn’t feel so… shallow?

And yeah, I’m talking about dynamic content: new maps, new instances to play, new story, new classes. All those stuff people always say that take time to develop, but other MMOs put out so much faster.

Thoughts?

Hello, I’m looking for 2 more people for a static weekend group. We raid 1h after reset, 2h duration, on saturdays and sundays. Our group is average exp, having a few Envoys.

We’re currently looking for members running meta builds, having more than one class, and wing 1 experience.

We need the following classes (considering multiclass):
- Chronotank (must know how to perfectly rotate VG; other bosses aren’t as challenging on the tanker)
- Reaper/PS

Send me a PM or mail and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.

[Suggestion] Chest of Fractal Mastery

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Valento.9852

Valento.9852

Just to give better solid, not-RNG based rewards for completing ALL fractals from highest tier. Say you have this [Chest of Fractal Mastery] claimable once a day per account, and it requires you to beat all T4 fractals. I’ve heard people have been doing fractals for more than a month, each day, and only get ascended rings or ascended salvage kits. Occasionally a Chest of Black Lion Goods containing an Instant Repair or a Black Lion Merchant Express.

See, I know you wanted to give better rewards but RNG sucks for the most part, so how about this new chest containing:

  • 1 Elonian Leather Square or Bolt of Damask or Deldrimor Steel Ingot or Spiritwood Plank
  • 10 Stabilizing Matrices
  • Some regular trash worth 10silver

As you start to up fractal difficulty, you may want to revisit some rewards to match the given challenges.

[Suggestion] Total Makeover Kit reusability

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Valento.9852

Valento.9852

Hello guys, so I got these two random ideas. One must be known, but the other is a bit different:

  • Separate kits: Sometimes people just want to change the color of the eye, it doesn’t seem fair to buy a full total makeover kit for that. Same for height, or adjusting jaw. So a good idea would be to sell separate kits for most parts with an appropriate price.
  • Reusable Total Makeover Kit: So this is the new idea. Have a makeover kit have “slots of usage”. If you use the eye color option, you’ll receive the kit back without that option, but you can use the other available changes on another character. As this is more flexible, it would be fine to up the kit value to match the new functionality.

That’s it. Hope it spikes some itemization ideas for the devs. o/

Is Raid reset day final or subject to change?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Valento.9852

Valento.9852

Final? Definitely not, since they actually changed WvW reset time like 3 years after not changing it.

Highly unlikely? Pretty much. Besides, a lot of groups probably have set their own schedule based on the raid reset, changing it at this time is just asking for trouble IMO.

Anyway, IIRC one of the raid devopers said that they have their reason for choosing Monday. I’m not sure, but I think it’s because on weekdays it’s the time where most players can login consecutively? So if a group starts on monday and only kill a boss, most of the players in that group can continue with the next bosses for the rest of weekdays. So basically they’re trying to avoid interrupting a group’s raid progress in the middle of the week.

Hmm how does changing the time mean “asking for trouble”? Do they base decisions on raw statistics without considering outside elements? That seems like a blind decision.

What's the logical reasoning behind nerf?

Valento.9852

Rumours fly that staff tempest will be nerfed next week. I would like a logical reasoning for so, given they have the smallest health pool and the fewest ways of staying alive if they want to be part of a decent raiding group?

If a staff ele wants to keep up with the required damage for raid bosses while staying alive they have two ways of surviving (besides healing skill that all classes have access to):
- Elemental Bastion (tiny healing to avoid downed)
- “Rebound!” (elite skill with high cd to avoid downed)

So, with further nerfs to staff ele we won’t have ways to bring up a comparable damage, and thus replaced by other classes. Is it really necessary to nerf staff instead of improving other classes so they’re on par with tempest? Or you just can’t because you plainly denied PvE to favor PvP, no matter how that hurts PvE playerbase?

Just don’t tell me you’re basing off such nerf on [qT] guild 4manning raids, as that’s far from representative of the rest of raiding playerbase.

It’s about kittening time PvE is freed from PvP. Balancing everything altogether is becoming increasingly unhealthy for PvE.

Staff ele is extremely easy to play and has the highest range out of all classes, except longbow ranger. Your point about survivability still holds tho. I hope they just nerf it by like 7% of total DPS. Currently it has the best dps available and an extremely simple rotation. But so do thieves, guardians, revenants, …. Just autoattacks.

Auto-attack-based classes are just stupid to be honest. Staff ele rotation might be simple, but at least we use more than one button. What can be said about revenants and thieves?

I’d get 7% of total DPS, but I can see how unhealthy any nerfs can be. Another nail in the elementalist nerf timeline.

Valento.9852

Where do people hear these rumors? And im fairly sure it has more to do with the staff in general because people cap one element or something im not really sure, anyways I doubt this would be the only thing, they seem to be interested in making all classes fun lately. Besides why are rumors always the one negative thing where are the positive rumors?

Rumours spread faster when they’re negative.

Not sure how much experience you have with Guild Wars 2, or elementalist, but fire was made to deal damage. Staff as a whole is a fine concept, and it is a versatile weapon. The reason why people camp fire is because that’s the most feasible way to deal consistent damage, and this is expected. This is what staff is about. The other auto-attacks are there for when fire is on cooldown, unless you play Air Staff, and you shouldn’t. Depending on how they nerf the class it will go downhill horrible. No one really asked for a Fresh Air buff that increases Ferocity and we got it, BUT it won’t cut it.

Living World Season Three

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Valento.9852

Valento.9852

Hi, Mo. First off, I just can’t help being glad that you so openly talked about your plans for Living World, which should be a major pillar of content not to be ever forgotten about. It just feels very honest from you to openly talk about content draught and contrast your intended future with past experiences.

That aside, I fear that bimonthly releases may not mean every two months we’ll get a Living Story chapter. It just feels like a loose way to say “every two month we’ll have something, either a story chapter or a festival”. Not that it’s bad, but if this is how it’ll work, would it keep us entertained from a lore PoV?

Again, thanks for the honesty. Since your first announcement as game director you’ve been showing that you’re human like the rest of us, and you feel, dare I say, sad about those who claim HoT is half an expansion, but rest assured we’ll be here to see what you’ve been cooking, and I’m sure most of us are hopeful. You set the bar for GW2, that might be the reason people trust so much in the company, because we mostly know what you are capable of.

Concerns about ANet development behavior

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Valento.9852

Valento.9852

Hi there, guys. I’d like to express my concern about ANet reputation throughout the years when it comes to consistency on delivery. This is not a hate thread, it’s a legit concern.

See, it all started with Living World season 1 when updates were frequent, and a balanced mix of open world/instance, and a few items both in-game and gemstore. Soon ArenaNet realized the manpower needed to keep up was too huge or else it would work like enslaving the devs to create such amount of content. This is, too much content and unable to create for the stablished schedule. They decided to stop for reasons such as difficulty to maintain, and zero replayability value, but the main point is: it seems they hadn’t foreseen this could happen.

Second, they came up with Story Journal and season 2, and declared LS updates to be biweekly. The new framework allowed for replayability, but nobody replays just for the sake of replaying a story chapter, there wasn’t (isn’t) incentive for such. The schedule seemed to be settling down, but then they gave up on that aswell. Again, they hadn’t foreseen this could happen.

Third, there was a gigantic content drought while creating the expansion. This made the entire community overhype HoT to all extremes, regardless of everything Colin had been stating, that the xpac would be what he showcased on the reveal and players shouldn’t expect more than that. He was honest. But that seemed like a PR speech and we maybe could get more things, or maybe shortly after the xpac there would be LS3 (yeah…). Well, no. Everyone devoured the content to death, and partially that was because the content wasn’t much in terms of depth. It’s also important to remember that it’s been long since ArenaNet started reevaluating the game way too much, and polish, and redo core, and “improve the base game”. Feature Packs, and HoT were all about polishing stuff… but I have a feeling that they were actually fixing their true intent since the game’s launch on 2012. It’s a separate story, but I have a feeling the game launch was rushed. But anyways, they hadn’t foreseen players would consume the content in the blink of an eye. That was because it lacked depth, while the new mechanics for the millionth time “improved the base game” to allow for… more… in the future.

It draws a pattern that’s worrying:
1. They’re always strengthening the “core”. I think the core will never be strengthened enough. There are always these new frameworks to allow for more content, but the content is never delivered, instead we get new frameworks. We don’t want the plate anymore, we want cake. It’s been so long that their philosophy is so centered towards frameworks that it saddens me.

2. They always come up with schedules, and always go back in their own word. They cut content because they’re unable to do it. Do they even have meetings for this? Well, I think they do. How could someone responsible in there not realize some things can’t be done in time? Are they going to postpone new legendaries? Or maybe re-schedule the LS from 2-3 months (as we know from Reddit) to 6 months? Well, we’ll never know. But it’s clear now that they are horrible with scheduling content, and this saddens me aswell. For how much I like the game.

3. Content drought has become another part of the company behavior. It’s not my intent to make devs mad at me, or MO. But we got facts on hands: you guys postpone things and make up stuff, but the players… the players aren’t so blind. We know what we’re getting, and to what extent we’re getting. And you, ANet, is always making up little things as big, and time passes, and the amount of content is always so underwhelming that it takes the shine from HoT away. It didn’t matter how awesome HoT was, the content drought before, and after it was so long that folks are stopping to care how brightful it once was. Content drought damages the game in a way you rarely see in other MMO titles out there, F2P included.

So yeah, I just wanted to get this out of my throat. Some decisions, and behaviors make me really sad about the game. I am not leaving GW2. I even bought GW so I could understand more from the aspect I love the most: the story. But there are things that… really make me sad.

Let's talk about outfits and references

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Valento.9852

Valento.9852

Hey, there! Big Guild Wars 1 fan here.

I’m not a veteran, but can’t help loving the original game’s story. Sometimes there’s one thing that gets me that is the reference behind outfits. I’ve come across some guildies or IRL friends asking who Gwen was because her name was in “Gwen’s Attire”, or who was this monk in “Monk’s Outfit”, because we have no access to such class so the concept went amiss. Most of them got to realize what the god outfits were related to, though, because they were presented with the gods in their personal stories.

So, I’d like to suggest one thing here: create a NPC close to Evon Gnashblade who tells about certain outfits with unmentioned lore attached to them! You could get away with “those who are supposed to know the references will know”, but that’s not a cool excuse. This is a simple suggestion, but I’d like to point out that you could use original Guild Wars 1 lore more often.

White Mantle is just a tiny bit from the past, and I really hope you bring back more from GW1 lore. The game’s universe thanks you.

My raid ready characters are: Tempest DPS, Reaper Condi, PS Warr, and Condi Engi (just useful for VG when lacking knockbacks).

I clearly don’t want to be in Anet’s shoes :/

You clearly haven’t read forums, or talked to people in-game, or frequent reddit. There are a lot of people which play this game solely because of story, and story-telling became a huge part of the game. Not everyone likes dailies routine, people actually want substantial and varied lore. It would strike me as surprising if their plan is as simple as that, without anything to fill the gaps between story releases. I am not saying they should go back to biweekly schedule, I think that was not a clever idea, but three months? I just hope these story chapters will be worth the time, both in quality and length, because we had a lot of cool stuff in season 1 with much shorter timeframe, and even in season 2.

Is this the future strategy to market “content”? Locking LS progress behind 2-3 months schedule? I’d like to know what the least useful skill type is: Strawpoll

As a reminder: Cantrips had an unique effect of breaking stuns, but it has been taken and spread across other skill types (Glyph of Elemental Power, Signet of Air, and Arcane Shield). The only cantrip which retained this effect is Armor of Earth.

I just can’t beleive what i see.
You allow for a Copy-Paste armors from male to female on asuras EVEN when it’s clearly not matching and shows parts that are covered by the underware (see light Tribal armor, Flamekissed, heavy Scallywag, Pit Fighter and Braham set)…
But when they give female asuras last bit of respect by giving them a female armor you have a problem with it.
Charr and asura both have been in a dark, dusty and ignored corner for so long, last time they have had some of developers attention was with the wedding attire. Rest of the time it’s just “Give asura goofy, big headpiece, and for charr something thet does not screw thier horns too badly.”
Both female asura and charr model should have thier own model for a Legendary armor. I mean, how often are you gona give us something like that? It’s not like you are going to add new set of legendary armor every seazon.

I hoped charr and asura would have adequate treatment when it comes to armor… I wish they had more developers so they could handle it, but it doesn’t seem the reality here. Very sad to have to choose between options which equally don’t fit these races, but it’s the least worse…

Charr and asura don’t have boobs… but the precursor armors could use some tweaking to look more feminine. Not sure how designers would go about that, this should spark an internal brainstorming for future releases IMO.

This is just another “i need something” thread which provides a method that the OP has to get those things.
If you need more mystic coins, get them from the TP like everyone else or save up the free ones you get until you have enough.

There should be a TP-free option of acquiring Mystic Coin in a sustainable way. Preferrably incetivizing exploring other parts of the game. Mystic Coins shouldn’t be this scarce.
