Channeling Overload Air w/ Fresh Air build

It is stupid (in a bad sense). Every time I try to make use of my rotation I end up downed. This is so kittening frustrating because mobs deal so much damage. I’m running with a cele gear, but it doesn’t matter because I just can’t take any hits inside Maguuma maps. Overload Air has such a small radius that I’m forced to be very close quarters with the boss, and then the boss’ PBAoE just knock me down every single time.

Am I doing a wrong rotation? Or bad gear for such a melee-ish gameplay? This is so frustrating. I try to run a DPS Fresh Air build but it ends up being too stupid to try casting it and end up downed.

At least, judging by what we’ve seen (not tested b/c bugged) in betas there will be more roles than DPS, regardless of 99% being DPS anyways. 1 extra slot for diversity. Way to go.

The wiki page is still wrong, earthen proxy got replaced with the new “auras grant regen and vigor” trait. Actually, would you recommend running it over the stability on overcharge one?

The point is that aura-sharing is so generic that we can do many things with them as long as we’re creative, but this nerf just kick us back to the beginning: any class/spec can outperform us. It’s not like “oo tempest is good at this the same way as spec Y”, there is no equality to my eyes, tempest is just as squishy as base ele, and now it has one more reason to be left out of challenging content.

The main problem, however, is that it’s an injected bug. I apply aura to others, they gain 5sec swiftness/fury (Zephyr’s Boon). Since I get the aura aswell I share it because of PA, and sharing them will grant another round of 5sec swiftness/fury. If PA only works with weapon skills which generate an aura, that should be CLEARLY explicit in the description as to not become misleading, rendering it useless btw (Cleasing Water ftw).

Agreed. There should be a way to infuse a legendary weapon with sigils, and then we’d be able to swap between all the sigils we’ve infused. This way the economy wouldn’t be affected in any way, we’d still have to buy some sigils. It’s just that we wouldn’t need to overwrite them as meta/content changes. They could associate costs to the infusing process as well, with a specific vendor in FotM (or PvP).

I wonder if people who have been farming these spiders for exp to grind out their masteries will be the same to complain about the lack of content until raids come out. I know, every player is allowed to play the way they want, but man… we’ve been doing so many boring farms (cough SW) that I’m actually surprised someone found a way to repeat the same scheme for the NEW MAPS. It’s understandable to farm CoF for Central Tyria because the maps are old and most of us wanted something fresh, the new maps however…

I had a blast when I got Updraft, and the slow pace I’m playing really adds up for the fun factor. Everything I see, the little details, it’s all new and I do want to spend as much time I can as possible in the new maps, and it was kind of disappointing that at times Verdant Brink looked pretty empty (no one capturing rally points). It seems like people want to rush all the maps… I’ve been doing map completion here and there, enjoying the new systems, and this friend asked me if I wanted to farm spiders and then he explained to me how it worked, and I thought with myself “oh wow, that must be… uh… efficient? I guess?”.

Anyone else taking their time to really appreciate all these new maps, without rushing stuff?

I mean, was it really necessary? Now that we could have a solid aura build, you simply nerf it? What is the problem with you devs? Folks were starting to come up with interesting builds and you just nerf it?

Tempest—Powerful Auras: Fixed an issue that allowed this trait to double-apply boons associated with auras.

Double apply? No no no, you didn’t understand how the skills you developed work. Let me take “Feel the Burn!” (as it’s a direct nerf to our new skill type) for example: This shouts give the user a fire shield, and spread fire shield around. Any aura-related boons are applied to each affected ally. If you SACRIFICE a spec slot and grab Water for Powerful Aura, the self-application of fire shield is shared to your friends aswell, resulting in TWO aura applications at once, and granting twice as many boons. If they remove the boons, they are injecting a BUG into how aura sharing works. More than that, they are breaking something for unknown reasons.

At least be honest and just state you don’t want your traits to work as designed, or simply remove auras from shouts.

Fed up with these made up “fixes”.

OP is so blind it gives me headache. The Endless Bottle of Batwing Brew will INCREASE in price as time goes on. It’s the most annoying item they locked behind a huge RNG wall. I get the others, but this single item is just stupid. If only you could forge it, but no, it’s the same scheme as a precursor weapon: a single item locked behind a ridiculous RNG or hundreds of gold (which will increase even more over time). I’m fine grinding my life for all the other items, but this one is just inexcusable…

I’d argue that tempest is much more viable than base D/D ele in the current meta. D/D ele is still the king of slowly winning 1v1s, but that doesn’t matter when the meta has become so teamfight oriented that coodinated dragonhunter trap bursts can almost one shot a D/D ele if it doesn’t react enough to avoid it, which is difficult to do.

Tempest on the hand works a lot better because it has a a very strong teamfight presence with air overload spam that outclasses what base D/D ele can do, while using shouts/auras to sustain itself and its teammates. Being able to have so much shocking aura and so much protection (40% damage reduction) uptime is insane for survivability. Furthermore, wash the pain away is an amazing heal if you position it correctly to heal allies on a point.

OP, you may not be building your tempest correctly. The old water-arcane synergies don’t apply here anymore, the best builds are a total 180 of that playstyle and trait spread, and you can’t get by with doing specific rotations over and over again.

Link your build? I’m desperate to find something, that will feel rewarding to play.

Yeah, I kinda wrote the metabattle page for it.., so the formatting is still kinda bad since I don’t know how to edit things properly, but yeah, true credit goes to phantaram for discovering this combo first while I spent most of my beta time playing with the slightly inferior water variant of the build thats also listed.

I plan to touch up the usage section with more tips on positioning with overloads and some nice stuff on shouts and projectile hates (theres a lot of depth) but this should get you started. Let me know if you have any questions, and try soldier runes if you have trouble maintaining diamond skin, which can happen since solo queue is more fulled with condi builds than the higher tier MMR bracket I play in.

I would like to jump in and just let you devs know: I love the Guild Halls! While ours is still growing due to numbers, we had a blast exploring the huge area! Props for the Guild Halls team, you guys are AMAZING! <3

My guild decided on a guild hall by vote. To my (pleasant) surprise, the Lost Precipice won and we’re currently in the process of making it our home. That said, the Gilded Hollow has a nice tavern, no idea what ours is gonna be.

For those interested, we claimed the hall with a team of 5, one of us without updrafts, but were reduced to 4 for the last couple of fights due to connection issues. If memory serves… 2 druids, 1 chrono, 1 berserker (the walker) and 1 tempest (the disconnected).

Of course, because tempest makes no difference. HAHAHA :x

So many items in Halloween, and they once again put a unique item on RNG gods… for a SEASONAL event. The community has already displayed dissatisfaction towards high RNG items for seasonal events in the past, yet they insist on this.

In this case specifically, it’s not like “oh, the item is too cheap, let’s just lock the endless bottle of batwing bew behind RNG so it’s appropriately balanced money-wise”. The whole thing is already TOO expensive.

I agree with your thoughts on the runes as they would hurt rune variety. I like the stat increase but I think that overloads should be more visually gamechanging/impactful if they were to be buffed at all.

However I dont think anet reworks something that was realeased a week ago, so a hotfix to the hability cost would be good enough.

I guess my high cost high reward design would be:

-Fire: Same effect, increased burn frequency, the fire field now follows you.

-Water: Heals (slightly more) and cures conditions, it also leaves a big water field after completion (this would allow eles to heal even if they are locked out of water for 20 sec)

-Air: No change.

-Earth: Current effect + obsidian flesh (focus earth#5) after completion. The blast and root are applied at the beginning of the cast instead.

Hmm… I’m always afraid of further increasing Overloads effects as this would lead us back to a massive nerf once they realized they are overly strong (specially considering a possible trait rework here and there later on). But, in a more hypothetical point of view:

  • Fire: The fire field actually already follows you, it only stops following upon completing the overload. I’d rather have a burning duration increase, rather than frequency as it would result in a more sustained burning damage in the end (more duration= more time to stack up, better than small duration and more frequency).
  • Water: I like the water field idea with the same duration as Overload Air’s Static Field. Another idea would be to splash regeneration around (could cause balance issues with Cleansing Water trait, though) or launch foes around (yesh, you heard it right, a 20-sec AoE launch).
  • Air: I’m with you in this one. Everything about Overload Air is just fine-tuned.
  • Earth: This change is the most dangerous in my opinion. You can tune some condi builds and take advantage of bleeding while still maintaing CC and protection (very strong support/defense). Adding Obsidian Flesh could lead to OP issues as it allows you to cast skills while the effect is active, and you could swap to a damage-oriented attunement and deal massive damage WHILE invulnerable (think fire and air with staff/dagger MH). I actually felt earth very OK to its purpose, though I’m afraid the protection application might be bugged (too much prot aftercast). Hoping it’s a design choice, and doesn’t hurt balance.

Also, I don’t know if these are worth including, but a couple of minor inconsistencies:

-The trait icon for Invigorating Torrents uses the same old icon for Earthen Proxy.

-Overload Water does not have a lingering effect when it’s done channeling, unlike all the other Overloads.

The trait icon is likely to be changed, but not so soon I guess. Overload Water doesn’t really have a lingering effect, that’s a design choice.

I love the rune suggestion for its effect, but then it would become mandatory and that’s bad design depending on what actual build you’re going for. The unified attunement/overload cooldown is something that really needs to go, though. How come you become exhausted after overloading fire, but if you don’t swap attunements your “exhaustion” still allows to use fire skills? Such exhaustion should just kick you out of the attunement in that case… it doesn’t even make sense to put such high cooldown for attunement.

OP, what do you think about party-wide damage modifiers or stat increases? It could be tied to Lucid Singularity, something like:

  • Gives nearby allies a certain stat increase after finishing an overload, depending on the attunement.

So fire gives, like, AoE Power increase for 15sec for all members in a party. This way it would compete directly with the other options and open up for different decision making.

@Edit
Another random idea for party-wide buff is giving 10 stacks of a Venom-inspired buff that applies a certain condition, depending on the attunement (Fire->burning, Earth->bleeding, Air->??, Water->??).

Tempest bugs

I’m almost sure I’ve seen a thread with all Tempest bugs, but it somehow got lost, so let’s try and consolidate a list of Tempest bugs. Post here and I will update whenever I can, just remember this is for bugs only (Tempest suggestions go to other threads).

Current known issues:

  • Heat Sync doesn’t share any boons. (fixed!)
  • Phoenix doesn’t perform a Blast finisher when used on Wildfire.

Minor issues:

  • When casting “Feel the Burn!” the player doesn’t play shouting animation (maybe because it’s insta-cast?).
  • Overload Air’s visual animation does not always show the cloud.

I know where ele fails to offer party-support. Most classes can already give all those might stacks, and important boons, PLUS fixed damage modifiers, so they surpass us. You know what we’d need to make a huge difference in raids, making us eligible for being picked?

Party-wide Condition Damage modifier. We wouldn’t be taken for all raids perhaps, or for some wings there would be parts where we’d be kind of useless because direct damage would be better, but having an AoE condi damage buff would make us have something specially unique. Plus, we know that for longer fights condi damage is way better. Maybe something tied to burning, like a constant chance for the party at spiking burning on critical?

I don’t know, druid/rev combo surpass the need for tempests support-wise, and druid have a godly party damage modifier trait, and berserker still fulfills a major DPS role with party-wide fury+might. All of them can outperform us.

it is 100% burn duration, the crit chance is for sustain as well as the assist to burn chance on crit, but it something I want to get rid of, like I said the Trailblazer set is ideal for what I want to get. it will allow for more rune options and possibly switch out smoldering if the runes make up for the lose elsewhere

Care to share your constant damage vs. optimal damage? And when these happen? Thank you!

Oh God! I’m able to put out 30s+ uptime of vigor for the party with Powerful Auras+Invigorating Torrents! I have to go more support-ish, but it’s an amazing uptime. If you combo this with Latent Stamina, the Tempest can be considered the most evasion-sharing class of all. (at least something we truly excel when spec’ing into tempest).

On a separate note, I’d like to see a rune that focus on burning duration and condition damage, and the last effect could be:

  • Upon activating auras you cause burning around you (3.5s, no ICD).

Helps condi builds!

I have a like mind in what burning can do. I do plan to go for the Trailblazer stat set when it comes out and remove the sigil of smoldering for energy or corruption . I am actually learning to enjoy the warhorn, mostly because I find the earth/water/air skills desirable against melee/range fights

the 20% boon duration means 20% more sexiness. swiftness if always up so im not sure why you need immunity to cripples. pick up ER if you feel like immobilize is a constant issue.

my record ATM is 32 stacks of burn solo. it averages between 18-22

I liked your build a lot, though I’m intrigued why you’d pick Rabid’s over Dire (why would you need critical?). Vitality looks much more mandatory since you don’t get a Focus Earth #5 to keep you alive, and Toughness is known not to feel like a big difference for eles. If you swap only armor, it would net you over 3k HP (which is considerable IMO), while losing about 7% of Critical Chance (remember Burning Precision has a 5sec ICD).

Oh, am I wrong or you get a +80% burning duration? It’s almost like doubling! If you consider that food it’s around 120%. o_o

Hi guys, I’d like to dedicate this thread for theorycrafting condi builds. Needless to say, our bleeding applications are far too minimal to focus on this particular condition, so let’s try and discuss around BURNING.

I’ve come up with this build. Not sure how viable it is. First thing I noticed is that warhorn simply won’t cut it, so I’d rather have a more defensive weapon on the off-hand that still helps proc’ing AoE might. Dagger main-hand is mandatory because of Dragon’s Breath and Burning Speed. I guess most of burning builds will revolve around sitting fire, and swapping to earth/water when needed. The choice for Fire/Earth instead of X/Water is because condition damage converting traits and earth ability to “tank” a bit more. Latent Stamina adds flavor aswell. I tried to get a reasonable amount of vitality and toughness with gear choice, while taking advantage of stat-to-condi conversion traits, so the overall burning should be pretty decent. Rune choice can make or break any condi builds, so this is a very important point to be discussed.

Any other ideas?

I have a few questions related to Powerful Auras combos:

  • Element Bastion: Does the passive trigger effect from this trait proc twice? Frost Aura will proc on the user at 75% HP threshold and the trait itself already spread Frost Aura to allies, with PA will the self-proc spread the auras around twice? Do we get double heal?
  • “Feel the Burn!”: If I slot Tempestuous Aria and One with Fire, the user get 4x Might. What about affected allies? 6x Might due to double-proc (shout already spreads the Fire Aura, with PA the user would gain and spread another Fire Aura)?

So, you have these guild missions in pvp and they have a certain goal. If a party completes such goal, will everyone in the guild automatically earn their commendations? Or do each one of the members need to win a match during the alotted time to be eligible for their commendations?

In the WvW one, does it work like a guild rush (everyone must hold the point in the same map)? If only a group holds the map, do everyone in the guild earn their commendations?

Extremely bad design on new map

My friend bought the HOT several days ago according to my recommendation and he decide to quit this game already. We tried to unlock the elite specialization by collecting hero points on new map and failed. The two hours we spent only gave us 3 hero points and 20+ times of death. The jumping puzzle like map is trash, so don’t force ppl to play it!

There have been multiple BETA WEEKENDS, not time to complain now, or else give proper feedback. What you’ve written has no value to the devs. Have a nice day.
