Yeah you’d have to calculate the profit spread of components separately vs selling it as a whole, with the consideration of 15%

Also remember that legendaries are items that have very low velocity, which means it can take time for it to sell.

Heck, I’ve sold over half a dozen precursors, and I’ve had to relist about 3 of them because I was undercut heavily. The same can happen with legendaries.

Meanwhile the components are high velocity (exception is the precursor) and so there is less risk.

“Yet, I really find myself thinking “I don’t even really want this”.”

Well that throws out the ‘use legendary’ option. You equip it and you’ll end up regretting it

I suggest you take everything and sell it. Well not everything – just the precursor. I think T6 prices still have an opportunity to grow.

If you are looking so hard to bash Anet that you identify this button as some sort of money grab and take the time to make a thread about it, maybe you should consider taking a break from the game (or go find another game).

exactly, it’s funny how people have to pick apart this little thing as if it’s a gamechanger and makes the whole update kitten.

What I like very much is that now you are able to directly see all the selling prices without having to manually search it like we do now.

That way we can see if there is a small/large spread between the lowest selling and 2nd lowest selling price.

As I aluded to in the other thread, I’m curious what’s going to happen to items that I stored on the TP pick-up tab.

It says the delivery box will be available everywhere, so I hope they don’t lump it up with the mail system and I won’t be able to pick up mail (that’s my main way of transferring gold between accounts)

I also hope we can retrieve gold separately from items.

Mini Wardrobe Impact on Prices

They’ll go down again. I bought Mini Seraph Mage at 40 silver yesterday afternoon, sold it at 3 gold, and now it’s 1 gold. I’m guessing Mini Seraph Mage will be back down to 40 silver a few days after the feature pack, just like with what happened to dyes.

Any particular reason why they should go down after the feature patch?
The price spike right now was just fueled by speculation, no minis have been destroyed yet (unless people forged them), so today there are more or less as much minis in game as yesterday. After the feature patch consumption by binding them to players wardrobes will set in, so why would the price go down?

For the same reason dye prices went down. Any repeat minis will be sold off, traded, or given away. By then everyone will have the minis they want, and the demand will go back to what it was.

Cept, there’s ALOT of people who never bothered to collect mini’s or keep them (after the AP.)
THAT will change.
people now going for the new AP, will be forced to collect them. People who are now happy mini’s are actually easy to use, will start collecting them.

There is the fac that people with doubles are more likely to sell them now, but how many would that be compared to people who are going to start collecting?

People will collect the minis they want, very few will collect all of the minis. A mini I sold yesterday for three gold is down to 99 silver, and buy orders are at 40 silver, the original price. Over time demand will be met, and it will be back to the old price.

Exactly what I was thinking. Minis that were always popular will continue to command high prices (in some cases, higher prices than they might have before). The less popular ones (e.g., the generic humanoid minis) won’t suddenly become more desireable for anyone but the hardcore mini collectors and AP completionists. If the average player didn’t want to be seen walking around with a little Seraph archer or Svanir warrior before now, the patch won’t change that.

I’m sticking with my Liadri mini. Looks cool, and I feel like showing it off despite the fact everyone has one.

I hated how the food bug allowed everyone to pretty much get Liadri for free. It ruined an exclusive, skill-based mini that you could showcase. But now it’s common to carry.

It was my go-to mini to use because it was so rare to see. I guess I now have to bring my Mr. Sparkles out.

Reimagining collections
Maybe some bank spots for things like blade shards, foxfire, etc. A “mystic forge” collection so to speak
An adjustment to the base stack size?

Trading 2.0
Maybe direct p2p trading?

I think you’re right on reimagingin collections, but I don’t think they’ll adjust the base stack size, as that goes against their gem store.

Trading 2.0 definitely seems like direct p2p trading. It would be interesting to see how that works.

If there is gold involved, perhaps there is a 15% cut? What if it was a barter transaction – how would that work out?

Elder wood prices, will it last?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Vol.7601

Vol.7601

I expect elder wood prices to actually rise with the start of the tournament. Elder wood is used to upgrade siege blueprints to superior. So while there is a huge influx now, much of that is going to be used up with the tournament, and prices will go back up.

There is simply too much elder wood in the market right now and in the near future to overcome the small demand for siege blueprints.

Unless anet works on a new sink for elder logs, I do not see it going up anytime soon.

Vol.7601

Do you guys think that there’s a middle ground between ultra hard and easy?

For example, I think we could clean up some of the issues with the Shatterer and just make it a more engaging experience. So rather than spending the entire fight hiding under his right paw he could, say, turn his head and attack that area? :] It doesn’t have to be hard, just a little more involved.

We tried to put in a few changes here and there when we added the new world boss timers. Reactions varied.

If I recalll Anthony there was a patch several months ago that redid many bosses, including kitten. But it ended up being the same thing, which was stand on his right claw and auto attack.

I don’t think it has to be necssarily hard like Teq, but make the encounter a bit more challenging and interesting? The key point here though is to make the encounter easier if players are willing to work together and not afk attack. Failure to do so will not result in failure of the event, but one that takes longer to complete.

Here is my example.

Shattered has 2 phases, one at 75% and another at 25%.

From 100% to 75%, keep the encounter similar to as it is now. But once you hit 75%, Shatterer flies away and launches his minions at the cannons (similar to what Claw of Jormag does)

NPCs and players can defend these cannons against waves of mobs. Upon successful defense against the mob, these cannons will be used against kitten which will automatically damage kitten all the way to 25%.

If NPCs and players do not defend these cannons, they will become destroyed and useless, and players will have to commit to the back-up plan, which takes longer a lot longer to complete (which is incentive to defend the cannons). This back-up plan could involve collecting and dropping bombs at Shatterer (when cannons fail he comes back to the ground to terrorize everyone)

At 25%, you can also keep kitten the way it is, but add more skills and re-shift the targeting so that people do not afk for the remaining time.

Remember, the key point here is not make the encounter a pass/fail one, but a quicker/slower one.

Suggestion: player camera improvements

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Vol.7601

Vol.7601

Design a formula or check that will activate the moment an object is detected. At that point, the camera view ends up zooming in to a FPS view. And depending on the distance between the object and the player’s back, the camera will zoom in/out of FPS mode.

Mmm, interesting idea – if the object the camera is trying not to be inside is close enough to the character to cause the character to fill a certain amount of the screen, then go first person instead.

However, would this not be succeptible to the already existing problem where the camera rapidly “bounces” between zoomed out and zoomed in, as objects pass between where the camera should be and the character? Only it would be even worse because you could be bouncing between fully zoomed out and first person very rapidly. (Good example for bouncy behavior is the top of spikey fences – used to be some great example in Lion’s Arch, but not sure if they all got destroyed :-)

(I know this is a separate discussion, but the “bounce” is possibly the most annoying feature of the existing camera, so the aim should be to stop it happening and not do anything that would make it worse.)

Perhaps rather than the mythical “First person view”, what we actually need is for the character’s “translucent” effect which kicks in when the camera is very close to it to be ramped up significantly. So you can still see a ghost of your character, but much less of it than currently.

I don’t see if there could be any solution to the ‘bounce’, as that is something that is also affected by the player’s actions (moving the camera around).

The other alternative is to clip through walls and disregard objects, which as we know shouldn’t be allowed (especially for WvW)

Suggestion: player camera improvements

Firstly I want to thank all of you for very clear and well thought out constructive feedback it is always a pleasure interacting with players.

Secondly I would like to reiterate that me posting on this thread does not mean that changes to the camera will or will not happen either now or in the future of GW2 development. Please assume everything in this post is purely hypothetical.

Thirdly I’d like to focus this thread onto a single possible feature for the camera at a time so we can talk about it, discuss technical limitations, and potential solutions to these limitations. Feel free to silently judge those who post before reading everything else discussed so far. :P

So, for the first feature to discuss let’s start with the ‘smart pivot.’ I have chosen this one first as it is one of the more technically challenging features, and seems like it would interesting to talk about.

Currently when you look up the camera slides along the ground towards your character which gives you a very limited field of view (really noticable when attacking enemies on walls in WvW).

I would like an option to always keep the camera at the same distance, so when the camera touches the ground it starts pivoting on the contact point instead of the character (in other games usually know as “Smart Pivot”).

I made a quick sketch to visualize what I mean:

So for the first technical challenge, how could we get this to work when the camera doesn’t know what ‘ground’ is.

Note I’m not a programmer, but I think I have a general idea.

Currently the camera knows something is in the way, because whenever your back is against an object it zooms in. This happens with the ground or a WvW wall.

So how about instead of focusing on dealing with the ground, how about we start off with objects. I’m 100% sure the camera checks if there is an object between the character and the ‘lens’. If this weren’t the case, we would have a situation where we would be seeing through things.

In the case of walls, we would be clipping inside and seeing the view inside of them. In the case of the ground, we would be looking from below.

Here is the non-technical suggestion.:

Design a formula or check that will activate the moment an object is detected. At that point, the camera view ends up zooming in to a FPS view. And depending on the distance between the object and the player’s back, the camera will zoom in/out of FPS mode.

Not sure why people are kittened at Anet. Key farming was here a lot longer than it was supposed to be. Anet was shooting themselves in the foot by having it in game for so long.

It’s about time we have weapon prices that are now in line with the risk of gambling on buying keys. It was a market inefficiency that had to be corrected.

If anybody else said it, i would agree. But not coming from you, sorry. You are richer then most people. You are more addicted to rare skins then most people. And you hardcore farm (wich kinda equals keyfarming in some ways – wanting best efficiency income). If you would give up all kinds of hardcore farming you are doing now, your response would be fair. (meaning every income that was substantially better then the average like blix farming, instantaneously nerfed). But it isn’t since you are hardcore farming Orr or something else atm, and you just can’t stand it, that other people got usefull stuff with keyfarming. And that’s the source of your post. Not anything else. And that’s dissapointing, using that as an argument. You just want your legendaries/personal skin to be more rare. And that’s a selfish thing. If devs would make a game around those incentives, it would quickly get toxic.

Anyhow i rarely keyfarmed. But having the option to do it sometimes was fun. Removing it, isn’t much fun. Especially having 4 scraps, it NOT fun. Because that means with inc nerfs, i will most certainly never ever find 6 more ticket scraps for a full ticket. So they essentially nerfed my existing 4 ones. Ah well chaos skins are ugly to me, and i got my stock of ley line skins.

I suppose it looks like I’m biased but I don’t think I’am.

The difference between me farming gold (which I haven’t done since megaservers btw) and farming keys is that there is an inefficiency in alternatives.

For example, between farming gold and buying gold from gem trade, both are viable alternatives

Between key farming and buying keys, the latter is not a viable alternative. It’s not viable because the price of a key is so high, and that you are more likely to end up paying more in gold value for the key than the skin you end up getting, which would average around 60g.

And so key farming has depressed the price of skins so much that key farming is now the only alternative to getting skins at a fair price.

Anet has also had lost revenue opportunities from those who would rather key farm than buy keys. The lower price of the skin on the TP also lowers the gold/gem rate to the disadvantage of Anet, although that calculation is a lot more complicated and it’s not 100% affected.

Hopefully they will just remove Black Lion Keys from the game entirely. It’s a horrible gambling system that is corrosive to the game they’ve made. Just sell Black Lion weapons on the TP for a fair price and don’t force people to gamble for them.

I’m surprised there haven’t been class action lawsuits against gaming companies for some of the RNG stuff they put in cash shops. Why? Because it is essentially gambling that somehow escapes from any local, state, or national laws that would normally regulate that sort of thing. Maybe they need to move their servers to Indian Lands or put them on boats in international waters or something.

Before you start going off on legal tangents, perhaps you should first understand laws and our legal system? You can’t file and win a lawsuit if what’s being done isn’t illegal. If you need further help, I can try to quote myself on a post I made on the subject of “lottery laws”.

furthermore, this type of gambling the DoJ (or whatever department handles gambling) doesn’t care because money is not changed both ways.

If Anet had some way to pay players based on the results of gambling on keys, then there would be a nissue.

I don’t mind the change if they would include a black weapon scrap in EVERY BLC. If you buy 50 keys, you really should be guaranteed a weapon skin. As it is, I do buy a few keys now and then if farming has got me close to 10 scraps. but if the farming goes, I lose all incentive to buy any keys.

I’ve been asking this for months.

If I had access to their sales $ I bet I could come up with projections that this would actually result in more revenue for them.

Not retroactively rewarding players for playing their game is a big mistake. I have leveled 13 characters to 80, mapped 100% 5 times, and beaten Zhaitan 8 times.

Now that the game has an update to what was crappy rewards, I am left out of the loop. How is this ok? Why can’t the game see what story steps I’ve finished and reward my characters for doing so? After 13 characters I don’t see any reason to make more…

Sep Feature Patch = New Players > Old Players

Considering that you would be rewarded with items that are worthless for a lvl 80 and probably would have a sum worth of something less than 5 gold…yeah it’s not worth it to retroactively reward players.

Because it’s perfect business sense.

A game is not a business. Players can’t be seen as money source. Ofcourse they have to make money. But if they see the player only as a way to make money, the game isn’t any better as a F2P title from EA.

As much as EA has got hate over the years (and they’ve been good at restoring that gooodwill this past year), the sales figures show that it is working. Titles like Mass Effect 3 or Battlefield sold pretty well. The executives up top may not understand the game industry at the root level, but when they see that their actions/decisions have resulted in high sales $, why would shareholders ask for something different?

Either way, if you don’t like these changes, then vote for your wallet – just hope that the rest of the playerbase agrees with you and that you’re not swimming against the current.

And that’s the flaw with your assumption. You’re seeing games like a businessman, as does EA. But the player doesn’t. EA can live with it’s bad reputation, it’s too big to fail. But ArenaNet isn’t. And if they don’t change their way of monetizing the game, I won’t buy any new title from ANet.

Yes, I have a business/sales analytics background but that doesn’t mean that just because I present a viewpoint that doesn’t get discussed often (on this forum, for example) doesn’t mean I’m 100% blinded. I’m a gamer too, ya know. +4000 hours playing this game.

Considering there really is no good way to obtain keys currently, if this does in fact remove them from story rewards, it’ll feel like an intentional slap in the face.

1. Pull out credit card
2. Open Gem store
3. Buy pack of Black Lion Keys

Keys are supposed to be their main source of RNG revenue… it was never intended for people to get them for free.

rolls eyes

The gemstore in general is the “main source” of revenue. I highly doubt keys are a main source within that. If they were, you’d see them adding kitten to the chests a heck of a lot more often. Instead we see more armors, weapons, outfits, minis, and dyes.

According to a lot of your posts, Zudet, the players aren’t intended to get anything for free. Stop with the money creep scares.

The ‘BOX’ is the main source of income as everyone who plays the game has to buy it. The CS is extra income not the primary income. No one has to buy anything from the CS to play this game.

The box is not the main source of income. You think a modern MMO company can sustain itself on a box fee, along with paying all the essential personnel involved in MMOs,

That is how a B2P game works – need to read up on your business models. If the CS was the main source, why you they have you pay for the box in the forst place. Also, GW1 hasn’t dropped much in price since it first came out.

Don’t take such a simplistic black-white view on game business models.

There is no other successful MMO out there that is strictly B2P with no cash shop.

Why is the CS the main source when you have to pay the box? Because unlike other B2P games, this is an MMO, where the developmental costs are way larger than your boxed FPS or RPG games.

Furthermore, they can do it because GW1 showed that this model is financially sound.

And if CS wasn’t the main source, then why do you think the boxed game has been markdowned multiple times, as low as 50%?

You’re right, let’s just have everything in the game handed out for free or at vendor price and hope Anet someone ends up with millions of dollars in revenue from box sales to sustain itself

No one’s asking for that. Ok, I’ll amend that, reasonable people aren’t asking for that. We understand that the gem store is the primary source of income for the company, so obviously they need to actually sell things for real money in order to keep the lights on. However, it feels pretty kittenty to be told doing something is ok (like key farming) only to have them turn around a rather short period of time later, and yank the carpet out from under you. If keys do disappear from story rewards it’ll very much feel that way.

There is already the rising concern that they are nerfing all the means of making gold in the game to “encourage” more people to play via their credit card. This (as Zudet aptly demonstrates) will further encourage that line of thinking, which can only end badly for Anet.

This has less to do with Anet coming out and saying “key farming is no longer okay” and more to do with a revamp of content.

It’s no different than Anet saying that my farming guide of 15g/h back in May was totally fine and safe, but then they nerfed it through the megaserver. Yeah I’d like to blame Anet and say that they nerfed it because they didn’t like how I was making so much gold, but realistically they nerfed it because of the megaserver system.

Because it’s perfect business sense.

Every company needs a steady revenue stream. Box sales are not a steady revenue stream, nor are bank slots or inventory slots.

The only steady revenue stream Anet has is through three components – key sales, gem-gold exchange and character slots, the latter being very minor.

By having skins released through the gem store, it entices players every month/quarter to buy them. If they had a policy to never release skins through the gem store, that’s one whole chunk of revenue missed out.

I understand that you’d like everything to be cheap and free – me too – but I’m a realist and understand why they put this ‘restriction’

And yes, an expansion is new money but it’s a whole lump sum of revenue, not to mention the intensive costs involved in making it (development, marketing, distribution)

Just forget about the ‘cost-savings’, it shouldn’t be a considering factor just like how it isn’t with the other Salvage-O-Matic.

What you should just this item on is convenience, and there is no convenience for the silver one compared to the basic.

Quite simply, no one gets enough rares to salvage to make this item worthwhile.

You’re right, let’s just have everything in the game handed out for free or at vendor price and hope Anet someone ends up with millions of dollars in revenue from box sales to sustain itself

Yeah, if you want to kill your game most effectively, you should lock all your new weapon skins and armor skins behind paywalls, that’s the perfect way to go.

I feel like I’m the only one around here who recognized that GW2 operated on a system where you would have to pay for extra vanity/skins. Thank goodness we don’t have to pay for extra stats.

And I guess we can completely ignore the currency exchange just to suit your argument

I appreciate the dev response but it doesn’t help our concerns. You say that the changes are not going to be significant or noticeable but at the same time want to make new players feel like they are getting something useful more often than before – those two points go against one another.

Your teq example isn’t the greatest. Teq requires moderate coordination to succeed and a high minimum amount of players. There is no scaling for teq.
