ArenaNet Math?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Vol.7601

This thread is ridiculous.

What kind of logic is this?

Sorry buddy but this is a game, and within a game there are coding restrictions. The game recognizes that there is only one item that can be considered to be applied to the face, and it is coded under the category of ‘Helm’. A goggle is considered a helm. A mask is considered a helm. Therefore, at any moment in time, you cannot wear two helms at the same time since that is the restriction.

You want both? Well goodness gracious Anet was kind enough to combine the two and design a skin that takes both the cosmetic appearances of a goggle and a mask and put it into one.

And that is why you have the two additional components of a padding and a strap. Those two additional components are a sink and gameplay design. This is how the game knows that you want to wear both the goggle and the mask at the same time.

So before you accuse Anet of having shoddy math, consider for a moment that these individuals who earn a salary designing and coding a game while working for a multi-million dollar company have some idea on why things are the way they are.

Mass buy orders, against ToS?

There’s nothing wrong with mass buy orders, and I do not see how that would be against the ToS.

If someone wants to put three million orders at 5c a piece for an item, they have a right to.

What is against the ToS is using automated programs to input these buy orders.

The key thing here is the use of automated programs. Whether they are involved in putting buy orders, spamming chat commands, or spamming “click to join” for TTS runs, all that matters is that automation is used and Anet has the authority of punishing those using them, if they choose to.

TP-flipping, the bane of Guild Wars 2?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Vol.7601

Vol.7601

It’s the fault of the casual player. They need to reassess their expectations on what they can do in the game.

Often I see on these forums casual players who are jelly of rich people and want everything handed to them like rich players have it, despite not even having anything close to the # of hours put in.

If you only play 1 hour a week, then of course you should not expect to be able to make one ascended silk spool.

If it were that easy for a casual player, then imagine how easy it would be for hardcore players? They could craft everything in an hour.

And so what if the casual player cannot keep up? This is how the market works. If there is someone out there willing to pay more than you do, whether that buyer is a flipper or someone in legit need of the item they are buying, the market is doing it’s job at reaching equilibrium.

If the price is too overpriced, the market will correct itself.

Remember that there are always two sides of the coin. While items are more expensive for buyers, there are items that are more valuable for sellers.

Is RNG connected to classes?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Vol.7601

Vol.7601

Loot is directly indirectly linked to your class.

You will get more loot on a guardian than a mesmer, for example, assuming you are playing properly.

But that pretty much only applies to farming mobs rather than farming events.

In terms of metaevents, the damage you do will influence if you should be considered part of the loot threshold.

For example, an elementals attuned to water will more than likely have more lootless encounters than a GS/AXE warrior.

I should also note that these rules only apply to Mloot from MOBS. Tequatl is not defined as a mob, as his corpse (technically there is no corpse) does not drop loot, but his loot comes from a chest. The credit for a chest has no bearing on class but as long as you participated in some way in the event.

Karka Queen is a mob, and you may miss out on it’s corpse loot. However, you should be getting a big physical chest and a daily chest.

If you miss out on loot for tequatl, then you either didn’t participate properly, you reached your daily limit, or it’s bugged (though that has never happened to me)

Same with Karka

But any insinuation that specifically classes get specific loot I think is unfounded

"Griefing" steam champ at the reactor

Vol.7601

It’s not griefing unless you’re doing it just to annoy other people and bragging about it afterwards. If you do something you know will annoy someone, and rub it in their face afterwards, that’s griefing.

Completely different than if you’re doing something because you want to do it, and just didn’t think about those people.

If I accidentally bump into you on the street, it’s an accident and I say sorry. If I bump into you the same way intentionally and laugh at you, it’s griefing.

The action isn’t changed just the intent.

Bragging isn’t griefing.

And there’s not a whole lot you can do to prove that someone did that champ in order to annoy people.

Besides, if I did the champ because I wanted to play whatever I want on my own time, and someone on map chat berated me for forcing me to play according to their schedule, you can bet I’m not going to respond in kind.

So neither of us were there, and it’s silly for either of us to assume. Bragging isn’t griefing. But doing something just to kitten people off is, even if it’s something you can do within the game.

If I kill something before you can get there, after I’ve seen you coming and then say, “You’re screwed sucker!” then I’m griefing you. I did it with malicious intent.

Obviously if I kill something and someone comes and gives me a hard time about killing it, responding isn’t griefing.

Unless we were there, we wouldn’t know.

Griefing to me is anything that can be reportable using common sense. Killing a mob before I get there certainly isn’t a reportable offense. I suppose it would fall under ‘tough luck buddy’

Why is this considered griefing? There is no rule that this must be done after FE. If someone has a key and wants to do it beforehand, then that’s their choice.

If that player goes out on map chat and mocks everyone, then sure he’s an kitten, but that’s because he’s mocking people and not because he chose to do content at a separate time for the rest. That doesn’t mean he should be reported for griefing.

And besides, he used the key. How about those players who are merely leechers? Why do they deserve to do the steam champ? If anything you should be thankful that someone has the opportunity to open it.

I don’t have onus of proof, you do. It’s a concept used in courts where in general the person who is making the accusation/insinuation is the one who needs to provide proof. You suspect that something is out of the norm with accounts, then that’s on you to prove. You initially stated that there are accounts marked as lucky and unlucky and you have yet to provide proof that this is the case. You may have provided proof that some accounts are hit by bugs, but that’s not proof that Anet has intentionally or unintentionally affected the drop tables for players. Again, these bugs could have been caused by a myriad of combinations at the game level, not the account level.

We’ll agree to disagree about the 2nd point since that hinges so much on the first..

And yes it is allowed since it is constructed using the API and it is merely an overlay. It’s no different than the boss timer overlays or a TS3 overlay. Of course though, Anet will never give express consent that they would allow/disallow such use of programs.

WvW rewards being rewarded to certain people and not others is not proof that the bug was caused by an account issue. It could have been caused by a myriad of other things that screwed up the code, not related to the underlying account.
2.) Shortsighted? It’s common sense and a numbers game. I farmed this way for months and I saw only 2-3 regulars across these events, not including a few guildies that I brought along. Not to mention the API program I was using had an active tracker that showed the # of downloads and active users for the multi-server API. That number never went higher than 5 until I released my guide. There’s your proof.

1)It didn’t have to be created by an account to have varying effects on accounts. Regardless of what caused it, it resulted in accounts being treated differently and that’s what matters.

2) What’s ya’lls’ favorite coined term? Anecdotal………….

Once again…

hours played in game doesn’t matter.

You could be doing 4000 in game playing RP, WvW and sPvP

But that doesn’t give you much of a chance at a precursor.

I have about 3500 hours in game and I picked up four precursors because my kill rate per hour was pretty high (although three of them came from mobs directly)

It does to an extent. Someone who has play 10 fold hours of another most likely has killed at least as many foes as long as they are not stationed in la playing tp or spvp.

By your logic on kills even though you have played 1/2 of my hours you’ve killed at least 4 times the foes I have. I’m almost 100% sure that’s not the case.

I’d rather wager that you have a lucky (marked) account and I have an unlucky (marked) account.

Up until the April patch, I was a hardcore farmer. I guested all the time and farmed the most dense events on the most heavily populated servers. Combine that with max magic find and that gives me the most chances at rolling for rares/exotics and a miniscule increase for precursors. Over the long haul that is a significant difference.

Account luck is all hubris and no one has any proof that such a theory exists. All my luck is because I’m doing everything I can to increase my chances, such as multi server farming, mob prioritization, proper traiting, and most of all, running a staff guardian. (and let’s not forget about rolling 3 more guardians to combat DR)

You could have an exact mirror of my farming habits and tendencies, but if you roll any other class except guardian, you will not have the same chances as me, and again that makes a big difference.

A lot of people complain that they have dedicated xxxx hours in this game while their friend has played xx hours and got a precursor.

One, that’s RNG.
Two, we do not play in a vacuum. It’s unfair to assume that everyone’s habits are equal. For all we know the person who hasn’t got anything after dedicating xxxx hours in game has been farming events with a GS mesmer or a bearbow ranger..

That is most definitely the pact camp looking from the west. Good to see that the effects of Mordremoth are spreading out…but that far? All the way in Timberlines across the sea?

Doesn’t make any sense. It would be better if the vines stretched into Rata Sum or anywhere along the Tarnished Coast…

It actually makes sense if you consider that Scarlet’s mind was Morde’s mind. She obviously knew about the pact and the death of Zhaitan, and as such so does Morde. It makes sense for him to directly attack their bases before they can confirm he exists by keeping his vines traveling below the ground.

Mmm good idea, though it sort of dampens the lore realistically. I mean, what’s stopping Mordremoth from summoning vines to kill Jennah or Ellen Kiel (#teamevon!)

True, it’s possible he just doesn’t see them as a threat. I mean let’s be honest, Lion’s Arch and the Krytan royalty did jack all for the Zhaitan offensive.

That might actually be rather interesting, and might suggest that it knows exactly what Scarlet did, and as such uses her knowledge of (mobile) waypoints in order to find and disable them.
Or simply follow them to the enemies bases.

What would be cool is if Mordremoth took control of an entire map and closed it off for 2 weeks (sorry map completionists!). All WP’s disabled, and all portals blocked off by thick vines

After we finally burn down those vines we come up with Timberline falls full of green and thorns and no more snow.

And at the center we see what Mordremoth was doing all along…empowering one of his champions.

And that’s how a metaevent is born.

In the end it won’t make a difference.

Right now there is a guaranteed way to get a precursor, and that’s through the TP. If people wish to gamble for a precursor and hope they get it at a much cheaper price, then they do not deserve to complain if they lose.

If you make this change, the prices of these pseudo-legendaries will skyrocket as well.

And you’d end up with people still angry that precursors/pseudo legendaries are outrageously expensive.

And yet another farm LS ?

in Living World

Posted by: Vol.7601

Vol.7601

Speaking of farming though, has anyone done the math on the amount of ambrite needed to craft nomad’s gear? I’m not a math genius, but here’s what I’ve figuered:

So for full Nomad’s gear let’s say you craft 6 pieces of armor, 3 weapons, and 5 trinkets.
The trinkets require 3 sheets of ambrite (sh) for each exquisite ambrite jewel, and you need 5 of those per trinket so…

3sh x 5 jewels x 5 trinkets = 75 sheets of ambrite
5sh per weapon w/ 3 weapons = 15 sheets
5sh per armor w/ 6 pieces of armor = 30 sheets
75sh + 15sh + 30sh = 120 sheets of ambrite
25pcs of ambrite per sheet so 25pcs x 120sh = 3000 pieces of Ambrite!

Now let’s add to the equation how these are farmed.

My experience has been that I get on average 6 geodes per event. Also on average my group unlocks tier 3 so the lockpicks are 18 geodes each. Each lockpick gives you a lump of ambrite which on average give 2 pieces of ambrite. Therefore…

18geo per key / 6geo per event = 3 events per lockpick
2pcs ambrite per lockpick / 3 events x 3000pcs of ambrite needed = 4500 events

So to craft your Nomad’s gear on your own you have to grind 4500 events to collect all the ambrite needed! I don’t care if it’s permanent, who seriously thinks that 4500 events for exotic gear is worth it?
I love the new content, but the amount of grind needs to be re-looked at. Again, please double check my math as I’m not an expert and also your findings may be different on averages.

1.) Anet doesn’t expect everyone to farm all their materials. The TP is there for a reason.

2.) The map can still expand and along with that, possible places to acquire ambrite
