Except when you go with a random group, i can dodge most boss attacks and maybe you can the same but you would be surprised how many cant and just stand still behind wall of reflection because they don’t know how to dodge at all.
YOU would be surprised how many like to stand in front of the wall
Put the wall in the middle of bloomhunger and everyone in melee is safe as long as they avoid the circles.
I’m assuming random groups = pug groups. In which case there will always be those ranging at 1200 range. In which case some projectiles aiming far away will go over the wall down them. And yes around half of the pugs I’ve met at 38 don’t avoid circles.

If a group of 5 new players who barely understand the game’s mechanics, barely knows what their slot skills do, doesn’t bother to keep their gear up to date, and can still rip through an exp dungeon, then that would be an issue that needs addressing.
The revamped AC does a relatively good job of making players learn their classes by the time they learn to complete the dungeon smoothly. Also, if people don’t know the mechanics and their class well, making this a lvl 80 dungeon won’t help, like at all.
any events? wp?
because this is a mmorpg ?
you are supposed to pug ._.
If you cant pug there is a huge flaw in design.
/brain asplode
maybe they were unlucky and their SoA got killed, but even then, 2 traited walls and wardens feedback + feedback should work too
I think I am starting to understand. Although from memory I remember getting 2k+ heals from those shout heal warrior pugs, they were prolly wearing clerics lol.
Subjectively I don’t find it worthwhile putting 30 traits in for PVE sustain. Aggro control should be manageable using knights gear alone. (funny thing is mossman goes after me more frequently after I started using berserkers ). But that’s just my opinion
I’m guessing Abaddon’s fall is about the story in GW1 nightfalls where the sunspears kicked Abaddon in the face and let Kormir ascend to godhood.
But yeah, just got dredge fractal, I am reminded of why I HATE DREDGE. Can we just get rid of that garbage fractal? I mean I guess its my fault that I got myself into a pug where no one know how to dodge the champ’s shockwave. But everything from the VERY start to the rubbish truck make my stomach turn. The final boss’s mechanics I actually find interesting (except when you get pugs that doesn’t understand what clockwise mean but then again it’s my fault that I pug)
generally more accepted than shout heal warrior builds (which enough people should know they are horrible for PVE min/maxing by now)?
The best way to pump out boons is through shouts from a guardian, obviously there are other methods (virtues etc) but back when I ran AH builds I always felt AH procs from shouts heal me most. Which brings me to the next point…
If I remember correctly the majority of the AH procs from any skill heal a lot less than warrior shout heals, worse they are only self heals and the team gets almost 0 benefit from AH procs.
Why do we see a lot less facepalms to AH guardians comparing to shoutheal warriors?
(genuine question, not whining, complaining, or trolling etc….)

“I don’t melee I’m ranged”
Saying this should be the grounds for an instant vote kick.
So should comments like yours. I main an engie, with a pistol and rifle… what “melee” weapon should I be using oh Great Arbiter or Combat?
toolkit
bombkit
lolthrower
or, you know, use your weapons in melee range? other than netshot and auto attacks, rifles actually need to be really close to your target.
For those of us who are still stuck on not seeing as big numbers appearing on the ranger’s screen in Brazil’s video, don’t forget that Spotter and Frost Spirit are, on average, boosting everyone else’s damage by about 12%.
could you enlighten me on how that 12% came from? (serious question)
Some skill in this game do have rather long cast time, for example, light of deliverance – a guardian skill has 4 seconds cast time. Some skills root you in place while channeling (moving interrupts the skill), some don’t.
Another thing about this game is that, there really isn’t such things as “castor classes,” “range classes,” etc. Every class has a blend of everything but still different from one another.
Most dps guardian builds for dungeon speedclears have absolutely 0 points in valor. EM is nice but when organized groups can get 20+ stacks of might from blast finishers (20s might stacks), the 5s might stacks from EM may end up overwriting your long duration ones and do more harm than good.
Only time I ever saw that is in a fractals 60s video fighting the dredge powersuit. No idea why the guardian uses it though….

Nice info, thanks. I learn something new and derail a thread everyday.
The good news is, there’s not usually much reason to dodge when using these skills. It’s more of a problem for Shelter when unblockable interrupts, like Magnet, start flying around. So be careful with Necros, GS Guardians, Engis, and Signet of Might Warriors if you’re running Shelter as a heal.
Edit: Wukunlin beat me to the logic behind it with his/her edit. =P
wait, magnet and binding blades are not blockable? :o
ps u must of edited while i was replying it.
yeah, gonna start double/triple posting from now on.
back on topic, I don’t think anet will do anything about it. If they make virtues recharge even when interrupted it will be considered as another buff to guardians by the crowds and their own PR team will start screaming at their design teams…
We can’t say for sure that this was the intended because I have stopped applying logic to anet’s decisions. However, in my opinion an encounter that can only be done efficiently by coordinated group (or just people who can listen) isn’t necessarily a bad thing that needs “fixing.”
I added in a third edit in case you haven’t read it already
for min/maxing in PVE, hammer/GS/1hSowrd do better jobs than mace. But then if maces really rock your boat and min/maxing isn’t much of an issue then definitely go head.
wait… what? Imma test this right now
edit: just tested a few time, used up all my virtues so they go in cd. Then i dodgeroll, as soon as I see my toon rolling I spam RF, all my virtues go off cd as expected. I don’t see any bugs.
edit2: wait, I see what you mean now, if I use RF, then immediately dodge, RF goes on CD and virtues don’t recharge :O I’ll test this a few more times
edit3: okay I think this is more of a design issue than a bug. Virtues recharge at the very end of RF, so interrupting RF at any stage will prevent the virtue from recharging. The reason it goes on full cd when it is interrupted (by dodge rolling or otherwise) is because RF gives invul during channel. If it doesn’t go on full cd it will be easily abused as on demand invul with short cd. So what they should do is make RF recharge virtues at the beginning or makes sure it happens when the skills goes on cd.

umm, the ones I know from the top of my head are: Jonez, some NPC in the ogre meta event in the fields of ruins, various grenth priests and priestesses, the bald women who summons a champ in kessex hills. Some havroun’s are definitely necros, tends to be the raven ones.
warriors, thieves, and mesmers do seem to make up the majority of npcs
This problem happens when someone gets out of the harpy’s range. The person could’ve got knocked down, or decided to range or w/e, but basically when the thing the harpy tries to shoot is out of reach they harpy starts using the trick they learned from their dredge friends.
If we can go back in time and look at the original statements
The claim was that rangers are, overall, more useful than warriors in PVE
I’m not a fan of these rainbow stats but I have to say this time gating is getting out of hand lol. Good thing ascended trinkets already have these stats
Oh, and Guang right about everything again, what a surprise. What happened to RANGER DPS kitten WARRIORS WAY BETTER GIB ARAH 7 MIN SOLO SPEED CLEAR OR GTFO, eh? Now we’re pretending we knew rangers were good all along? What a TWEEST.
okay let’s see.
- what did the thread prove that you are right about…. ?
- also, “again” ????
- ranger dps is still lower than warrior’s
- I believe Dub’s challenge still stands (although I do like to see his footage on it as well)
- intentional incorrect spelling won’t help making people take you more seriously
What’s so unfair about it?
Some people on these forums think LoS’ing is an exploit, go figure
personally I find the uselessness on par with glacial heart
my problem with mace is that the raw damage is really low, like lower than scepter low the last time I tested them.
It’s not a coordinated group, it’s a very specific set of classes. You need a guard or mes. To me, there’s a world of difference in that. If it was a matter of traiting, correct stat allocation, skill and weapon selection, and effective communication, that would be one thing. But none of that matters if you do not have reflections. if a group of 5 different classes does not have the means to deal with the mechanic, something is wrong.
guardian, mesmer, thief (smokescreen), ranger (whirling defense), ele (swirling winds), all have reflection/absorption skills of at least 20% up time. Engi can throw elixir U to help out as well.
Oh GW2 is an awesome game, my favourite mmo to date. But that doesn’t mean I don’t have suggestions that may make the game better.
Yes but apparently the gate’s health upscales with players around the area while the cannons’ dps stays the same
The scary thing is shout heal warriors are far from the worst warriors I’ve seen in pugs
lol @ that censorship
but yeah strictly speaking warriors can block off the spiders with shield stance if everyone stack really tight (doesn’t have to be exact, this game has some leniency in this type of positioning. If something shoots stuff at me and the person beside me has aegis, the aegis proc always take priority even if they are like half a step away from me. I see this all the time in WvW, don’t see why it wouldn’t be true in pve) or if the warrior has fast enough reflexes to run around and catch all the projectiles.
Also, probably beside the point but when a group needs to rely on a warrior for defensive utilities things don’t look good lol.
I’m one of those people that has to learn things the hard way
I remembered the first time I did an exp dungeon (AC), none of know what is going on at all. None of us know that Kholers pull has that big windup and instakills everyone. We wiped like 10 times on him and gave up.
My reaction? “Wow this kitten is intense. Awesome that we got some hard content to work on”
Months later I started reading stuff on this forum and see “OMG OP NERF PLZ”
fractal 30s, me and guildie show people where to LoS, puggies run all over the place as soon as mobs come. Mobs go after puggies and run out of my justice is blind range. mobs aren’t blinded and kills whole team. puggies: “Maybe we shouldn’t stack”
imo AC exp is good learning material for people wanting to learn about the game’s exp dungeons:
- spider babies teaches how important projectile reflections/absorptions are in this game because all that damage can be prevented by having these skills
-spider queen is a good example to show why people shouldn’t stand in red circles
-kholer is probably the best encounter to show bosses having dangerous attacks with big windups that needs to be avoided by dodging or otherwise, also shows boss summoned adds can be harmful if ignored for too long.
Also you need to learn how to exploit the fights in the dungeons. The spider for example you can stack near the stairs, that trick makes the fight waay easier, even if your group die on the spider queen at least you will be able to kill all the mini spiders, making the fight with the boss easier (don’t forget to destroy those turrets first too).
That boss with oozes and traps is one of the most boring in this game, so that path is the least played from that dungeon, path 3 is easier, path 1 is the easiest if you group know how to deal with the burrow’s room where you need to defend Hodgins.
You don’t really need to stack on the stairs for the spider queen. The poison spray has a minimum distance so it should hit anyone in melee range. She raises her front legs before doing the web spitting attack so just don’t stand in front of her when she does that. That way should take almost no damage in the fight. The babies can be painful but a bit of LoSing can easily deal with them even without reflects.
Pretty sure stacking just makes it easier and things like WW and FGS (#4 and #3) become more effective for better kill times. Unless i dont actually know why we stack lol.
yeah I suppose having a pillar between the team and the boss allows those face walling skills to do max dps. I’m just saying anyone can pretty much solo this boss as long as they are not standing inside poison wells and getting hit by the web thing
A warrior blocking all the spider projectiles with their shield stance allows the rest of the team to dps. Obviously shield stance doesn’t have 100% up time so the rest of the group need to fill in with their skills,

This boss is doable naked people.
http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/pagmo/nfs/project/p/pa/pagmo/1/15/Don_t_panic.jpgPeople really need to stop posting stuff like this as if this is some end all be all that dungeons are the easiest thing for everyone and every single problem people have with this game is just a cut and dry l2p issue.
Of course a group of 5 very skilled and coordinated players can do stuff like beat this boss with no armor. And yes, it is getting annoying having 10 threads a week about nerfing this path, but the OP isn’t even complaining. He is asking wtf is with the ridiculous amount of spiders that now spawn (Thank you ANET for “fixing” another “problem” that wasn’t actually a real issue).
There will always be elite groups that can wipe the floor with any content and do it in under 5 minutes with no armor, but that doesn’t mean everyone can. Maybe when people come to the forums for help, they can actually get some answers other than ridicule.
you make it sound like those people who demonstrated the optimal setup to complete this path didn’t offer to help at all.
The difficulty of open world PVE and dungeons differ by an astronomical unit. Most open world PVE content you can just stand there and hit whatever on your bar and kill the things.
Most dungeon, you need to move around, and use your dodgeroll, and use your blocks etc. I’m not sure if you know this but facetanking in this game’s dungoens is not going to work. Same with heals, you are never going to outheal the damage done by mobs. learn their moves and avoid them. Dying lots and finding things do too much damage? learn to not get hit. The heal skills are there to help you with the occasional mistake, not for spamming.
The fact that you need certain classes to complete a dungeon moves away from Arenanets “Dont need certain class for certain content” Reason they removed the healer etc. Also the philosphy that Arenanet has to balancing is really wierd.
If they want players to stop farming a certain dungeon/event and spread out, they just make that popular dungeon really hard. If they want players to try different build they make that build really weak. Its a really awkward strategy that only makes people move onto the next easy run or the next best build.
However for this path I believe it is a bug because there is no way that a party can pass this if they are slightly out of sync and do not have a guardian. Feels like they tried to fix something and broke something else. Make the spiders weaker or spawn less…this dungeon is so bad.
necros are the only class with no projectile reflection or absorption skills. Unless you insist on doing this path with 5 necros it is still very doable with a little bit of coordination.
we’ve been through this like what, 2 months ago?
