Appreciate the thought, but it turns out people really, really hate having their freedom of movement impaired by the towers. If you want them to have some sort of relevance to the rest of the map, it should be something that makes it easier to launch an attack on a neighbouring keep. This doesn’t have to mean trebuchets, it could be mercenaries or environmental weapons. But importantly it should be possible to counter or circumvent, which isn’t an option with environmental effects.
There’s another good idea for use of the north towers, let them provide themed weapons for siege damage, sorta like the scorpions in eotm.
What “buff” exactly are you talking about?
There’s a few, so maybe it’ll make it clearer what’s happening.
Putting it back is hard on the West if its earlier than 7pm, but it seems to hard on the East if its as late as 10pm. Either way neither coast is going to like it. Being on the West side of the time line, its even pushing it at 7pm to get on in time. Getting off work at 5, the drive home, then feeding the family, I’m lucky to log in at 6:50 to get with my guild and ready for reset.
If its moved earlier the West Coast is trapped in a “Q” all night, cause as much as the East Coast says its to hard to stay up, they seem to manage just fine. No happy ground will be found on the time.
East loses more than half their prime time waiting for the reset, and then have to deal with the same queues as the west for the rest of their night, I don’t see how it’s harder on the west, when they still have more of their prime time to play after east logs off.
The earlier east gets on, the the faster the queues taper off at night and the faster west gets in for their prime.
You “don’t” have to be on at the exact time reset happens to make a difference in the matchup. If you want to race home and get on at 6pm pst that’s your choice but the match isn’t over in a couple hours.
Anyways last post for me on this, people don’t care to understand. It is what it is.
Do you all even remember why the original reset time was at first as early as it was (4/5pm PST)? It was some devs job to manually throw a switch that allowed the server shuffle & reset to happen and he had to do that before going home for the weekend but have enough time to fix stuff it something broke. It is no wonder given ANET is a west coast business it got decided on our time zone.
If that’s still the case then why move reset up another hour now? now they just flip the switch and have no time to fix anything.
Now of course ANET probably should have changed that reset time a long ago after launch was well underway and everything was working smoothly, as soon as they realized they might want to do Friday nite patches for weekend events but alas they waited for the expansion excuse and in the process somehow got spooked away from the whole idea of weekend events which is sad since I remember fondly all the fun weekend events we got in GW1.
![]()
And this is why we can’t have nice thingscrappy human nature does not allow for rational compromise or long term vision.
I’m sure if they came out with those reasons I’m sure players would have taken more consideration over picking friday again. But they never did, and if you look back in the 3 years how many weekend events have they really done? The excuses they gave at the expansion release had nothing to do with weekend events.
Besides, with the amount of times things have gone wrong with a patch, why would you want to deploy it at the very end of the day of the week with no time to fix it for 2 days after? How many times have they had mini patches to fix stuff from a tuesday patch? If you want to do a weekend event, deploy that patch on thursday, players have 3 days to enjoy it, and you have 1 day to fix anything broken with it.
Finally it doesn’t matter if Anet or the servers are on the west coast. These are servers for North America. Reset is the start of a brand new match on friday, it makes sense to start it off in prime time of the first time zone in North America which is where most of your clients are from, that’s EST.
I still find it disappointing that a company cannot compromise with their customers and cannot move their patching process back one hour.
Maybe you should start by reading the major quarterly update and see the changes they made there.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/updates/Game-Update-Notes-April-19-2016/first#post6122828
There’s a ton of good changes that happened, and a lot of areas of the game were made more rewarding to play.
WvW is a lot more active because of the server links, the return of the alpine maps, and reward tracks. There’s obviously problems with server links, but I’ll let the EU players comment on that situation. For NA, T1-3 has a rotation of servers, with BG going beastmode, and T4 is now locked into it’s own place.
Meanwhile wvw dev TylerB and team has been active in the forums, conducting polls on where the player base would like them to proceed with changes to wvw, with scoring changes recently being the area voted for them to look into next.
The game is still free, log in and try it out again.
From 8pm EST to 10pm EST on Friday my guild plays without a bunch of map queues which is preferable to us.
Play what? I haven’t seen a Friday night fight night in about a year, the only thing that happens on Friday before reset is karma trains while people wait for reset.
Does that even happen anymore lol? use to be karma train fridays all day, until some servers decided they wanted heavy loot bags instead of champ bags.
An hour before use to be for chilling in north camp and grab your plus 5, get in the server meeting if there was one, and just screw around till you’re kicked. No serious fights going on unless something was planned, but those fights usually happen on wed thur.
Meh wish it was a system just tied to exp and not points as well, well not so many points anyways. I’m not an achievement hunter, I don’t enjoy repeating story events(especially ones I can’t skip the cut scenes) to get achievements, I don’t do adventures, I don’t mind points tied to boss achievements, but that still takes a lot of points away from me to want to bother getting.
Only thing I would need them for is building legendaries, so it’s just stuff for me to put off to the side and skip for now, maybe later on they’ll put in more mastery points in an area of the game I would enjoy doing.
All the west coast players who are complaining… you guys literally have no reason to kittening complain even if the reset is 5pm PST or 6 pm pst you guys will still have the whole night to play where as east coast people do not.
You assume all West Coast players log in at 5/6pm Pacific so therefore we must have all night. Please stop. Most of us can’t do that. A lot of us are just getting out of work or ending college classes or eating dinner, something most EST players have a chance to do with a 8/9pm EST reset.
That’s funny, it’s like you think that doesn’t happen on the east coast between 6-9. You still get to play on reset at 8/9 your time, with the old or new times. It’s not like west coast stops playing when east coast logs off.
So again, what are the complaints here? What are west coasters really asking for? for actual reset to be moved up so it happens in the middle of their prime time and shut out east coast? Who cares if reset happens 5 or 6 your time, at least by the time you get on the queues are mostly gone.
So.. my idea would be that we keep the 3 Alpine maps, but replace the Edge of the Mist Map with the DBL Map. In addition there are no multiple instances of this Map anymore but still all servers of the same color battle there.
I think no one would complain anymore of how big the DBL Map is. It could be really fun also.
You cannot replace the eotm ebg type map with a homebl type map. And if you guys haven’t noticed eotm structures are not upgradeable like the traditional wvw maps.
I dunno, having it one week daily reset might cause just as fast burnouts. You don’t have one week to build your score, you have one day, and I could see some players putting in overtime for that.
In any case BG is winning all tournaments, so no point.
I’m more for the single week events like the golem event, as long as it’s run properly.
HoT/DBL killed scouting.
Automatic upgrades no longer needed a player to keep checking on supplies or click the upgrade.
Sentries/watchtower marks enemies.
Keeps and towers were too big, so placing siege and then having to refresh them was a pain.
Side keeps didn’t start with waypoints you could use at all, so you had to run to them every time.
Even the annoying camp flipping roamers didn’t want to play on there, so less enemies to fight.
Guildhalls killed all guild auras and upgrades until they could be produced once again.
So shrines was suppose to keep players busy in the meantime?
There were players and entire guilds dedicated to scouting and havocing on borderlands, I was one of them. DBL killed all motivation to do any scouting, guildhalls and guild cata nerf killed motivation to havoc anymore.
So yeah lack of scouting, can’t imagine many have returned to their old roles. I don’t dedicate much time to scouting/havoc anymore since the alpines have been back, half my guild is still on a break, there’s just better things to do these days.
I figured they left the cost the same as before because they want to encourage players to move to the lesser populated servers in the link, even the ones linked to T1. Once some numbers return to those servers maybe they’ll bump the cost up to 1800 gems and re-link appropriately. Wouldn’t be surprised if ET population has been boosted to an old T4/5 server size by now.
Heh sit in queue for 3 hours. If you’re going to compare zones then do it fairly.
Let’s break some things down shall we?
Primetime 6-12pm est pst.
Reset at 10pm est, 7pm pst.
EST has to wait 4 hours putzing around waiting for reset.
PST has to wait 1 hour putzing around waiting for reset.
EST has queues for 2 hours and then it’s 12pm.
PST has queues for 2 hours because of EST and then it’s 9pm for them.
EST starts logging off after 12, PST plays for another 3 hours to the end of their prime time.
So 3 hours queue time will be bad? not even close to what EST loses in playing time that night. Mind you if it goes back to 8/9pm est, the queues start to diminish after 11pm est. Normal raids last 2-3 hours for most guilds. Also there’s more players playing on EST (the queue period alone points that fact out), so the decision affects the majority of their players.
In the matter of numbers, not much point putting the map less people want to play on green, it would be better for a matchup if pressure was placed on green than red.
They have to keep some randomness to it, otherwise you’ll get people complaining they don’t get to play the other colors, why are we stuck on red for 6 weeks now!.
Well… use to mostly get those complaints when world completion had to be done in wvw, but not anymore. That only really mattered for map completion, which has been removed.
That’s what I said in my last sentence…… …. .. .
They mentioned it when they were making eotm that it took them over a year to make it. I don’t know if they have a bigger wvw staff or more resources around these days but that’s the benchmark they gave. Maybe that was a case of them wanting to provide 3 distinct areas which took them longer to build it.
Maps reuse assets, that’s a given. I wouldn’t even mind if they took the pve maps and converted them to wvw maps, I think that would cool especially if it’s something that provide more maps for wvw on a shorter development time. But Anet prefers building new stuff from the ground up. Hell I wouldn’t even mind if they took ebg and alpine and made them into different themes, maybe even give a spring/summer/fall/winter update.
They have a lot on their plate these days, not even sure if they are even planning on another map, last one didn’t go over so well and is still being fixed.
P.S I would love to have more maps for options, I’m just staying away from those solutions because it will be some time before it happens. So stuff like extra bl or ebg with another theme, those are long term wishful thinking right now and stuff we can bring up when they actually have the extra maps.
The best solution for right now is what Tyler mentioned, 1 desert, 2 alpine, 1 ebg. Everyone gets the map they want every day, if the need for 2 desert 1 alpine comes it can easily be dealt with later.
(edited by Xenesis.6389)
Desert is designed as a border. We cant have kittening 4 of them. It’s not gonna be another EB unless they do what many of us want them to do – remake the kitten map from scratch because nothing else can fix it’s core problems. But that aint gonna happen and you know it. So no point even suggesting that.
I don’t think it would need a full redesign. Make red get “citadel” and green and blue get the other 2. Red is almost always the weakest server, that will help them have a slight advantage in that map.
There isn’t an even amount of towers on the map, or equal access of camps. The home team gets an extra tower and easier access to 3 camps, that’s the home advantage over ebg which has equal number and access to everything.
A fifth map isn’t going to help either, other than BG who’s overstacked, all other servers don’t queue up 4 maps every night.
It’s been discussed over and over again, there isn’t a 3rd map option for homebl right now, and it would take them at least another year to make one. 1 Desert BL and 2 Alpine is the best solution for “right now”. Everyone gets access to the map they want, if you don’t like one play on the other.
P.S Never seen any borderlands have a higher queue than ebg, must be a BG only thing.
Just trash them if you don’t want the shards, that’s the least of wvw problems at the moment, pve has it worse with it’s clickaton on loot bags.
I don’t know if it’s intended or not, but might want to look at the vertical detection range of watch tower, since I’ve been marked at the bottom of NW tower coming from the camp either side before I even hit the switchback ramp.
Considering you still need to go up the switchback ramp right next to the tower (while NE switchback is a little further from it’s tower), it gives defenders considerable time to respond.
Can’t exactly pull off any secret havoc ops with that around. XD
Only possible way to get around that is to come from the north side of the map.
Idea 1 : have the towers work as barracks
Towers could train guards and soldiers, each tower having its own speciality, and one could send them as reinforcements for keeps, camps, dolyak’s escort… Each keep would have 2 towers “feeding” it with guards.
In this way, you’d upgrade guards NPCS in keeps with towers troops, which are more powerful, with various styles.
Interesting idea, working like a moba to send troops out. I always thought it would be kinda cool if they could extend the siegerazor idea to have a roaming group of npc guards for your borderland and take back the minor stuff if no one was around, and with this idea you could add in specialty skills and add a couple more guards per groups with the tower upgrades.
But I know a lot people would be against that.
Idea 2 : have towers work as points to control a strategic area
I think that what was initially intended : anyone who controls a tower make opponents have to walk the long run to reach their objectives.
I think there’re better ways to do this like having tower detect enemies in a permanent fashion (from like T1 ou T2 on), but I think it’d be even greater to have towers produce an environmental effect in an “Orr’s Statues” fashion, that’d make moving in the area tedious, or provide a strong advantage for defenders. Some things like :
- Mage college tower : random elemental storms all around
- Lich tower : somehow like Grenth’s statues effect
- Ogre tower : random thieves popping, traps…
And, it’d become more and more powerful, or with additionnal effects while raising in tiers.
I wouldn’t step foot into that borderland ever again. One of the worse things I hate in this game is messing with my movement, I hate immobilize, I hate that it can stack, I hate there’s no diminishing returns. So anything that hampers my movement in the game will get an automatic negative in my book.
There’s already a large collection of small plant roots you can’t run over that plagues the borderland, narrow walkways, tons of cliffs for you to fall off and die, I don’t need to run over snares, thief traps, sandstorms, random walls popping up in my face, etc, that does not make me want to go to a tower to take it, I’ll just avoid it completely. I’ll just go back to ebg and run and hop around with joy over it’s rolling hills and grassy plains.
Keep in mind that we’ll also be getting potions like spvp to speed up the tracks, so it will speed up a little more.
The tomes while annoying, you have to also keep in mind that you no longer earn regular exp in wvw, so the tomes cover for the leveling process. I know there are a lot of vets around and players have over 8 characters at level 80 etc, but you still need to have it in the game for the newer players, or players who don’t play as much.
If you don’t need it then trash it, I have a couple stacks sitting in the bank for a rainy day, it doesn’t bother me. Can’t believe people complain about leveling tomes, know how much people would love to have those in other games, heh.
They have to keep some randomness to it, otherwise you’ll get people complaining they don’t get to play the other colors, why are we stuck on red for 6 weeks now!.
Well… use to mostly get those complaints when world completion had to be done in wvw, but not anymore.
The current plan is to rotate the borderlands maps each quarterly update. That said, now that we are actively polling the community, perhaps we can start exploring other options.
For instance, nothing is really stopping us from having a combination of ABL and DBL maps running simultaneously. 2 of one and 1 of the other. If we polled that, and players approved it, then there’d be no need for the rotation, and players on both sides of the issue could play on their preferred map. The downside of course, would be any perception of imbalance that may arise from one map being considered the stronger “Home” map, but we could always give the more defensible map to Red/Blue and leave the less defensible map to Green.
TYLER YES! DBL for redbl and Alpine on blue and green bl.
Give it a shot and see how it goes!Actually that makes sense, assuming red truly means the lowest ranked and not RNG.
E Z.
Give Alpine to the lowest rank server in the match; ignoring color.
The colors are assigned when the final glicko ratings(with the variance added) are calculated and the matchups are put together. So it is random, but the odds of a top server rolling red? basically only if they were rolling up a tier, or the ratings were really close in the current tier like T1/2.
(Look at who has red borderlands this week and their ranks)
This seems like the fairest solution to me, and you were spot on with how I felt to leave the Desert to green and the other 2 Alpine.
Why would you make desert green? There’s less support for desert borderland, less players are willing to play on it, it’s a little more defensible with the environment, so why give that to green which is usually the server on top of the tier?
Please make concurrent resets that keep happening every hour on Friday started at 5pm PST.
That way the score will continually go back to zero every hour so that perpetually people can get their fair chance to play when they want.
That’s kinda going to happen with time slice scoring. XD
Boy I sure do hope they can move reset to stardate -306608.048630085
It’ll fix all our problems.
Just wow… people have been asking for more tournaments ever since the last one (which was in fall 2014, wasn’t it?) was over and I know lots of people who quit wvw/the game because we didn’t get them.
Every time we’ve been asking we got answers like “oh we just want to sort out this issue” and “now we want to sort out that issue but don’t worry, tournaments are coming” and now we get a lousy excuse like that?
Because if they launched a tournament now it’s no question, BG will be winning it, the only reason they lost one is because they had to be double teamed the entire tournament.
So yes scoring/night capping/population imbalances, are major problems they needed to work on before bringing back any tournaments. We all know the previous wvw team was working in secrecy for whatever reasons, some of those issues may have been worked on, who knows. The new team is working on population balance with the links, it’s not perfect of course but it’s a “start”, the scoring/night capping changes are being looked into, it will take time for them to develop it but the work is starting.
As for tournaments, they ran with different lengths and achievements, and I think both had a combination in burning some people out. Pug commanders who carried their server during those times I’m sure were burnt out by the end. The first achievement meta required a long list of things to be done over 8 weeks, the last tournament was short 4 weeks and only required a few general things for the achievement meta. I was also on SoR for the epic meltdown, which surprisingly my highest rated post was in regards to that.
I would be all for flash tournaments, as long as they were announced as a surprise a week or two before and transfers were locked on that day till the end of the tournament. Maximum of 4 weeks at a time.
I would also like flash events happening like the golem event, while I hated what happened in that event because of how it turned out with the exploiting and anet turning a blind eye, I don’t think that would happen this time around with an active wvw team around.
But events could be the alternative way to get people into wvw, and to try it out for the first time.
Anyways, wvw requires a lot of work to be done, and now there’s an active team in place for that at least (probably more red post in here now than there ever has been in total for 3 years).
Why not tell all your friends, guild mates, server mates to log on the forums and take part in the poll?
Not that I’m against an in game poll, just saying, there’s other options in the meantime.
Why would a later time for reset help the west coast? This will give everyone another hour to enjoy prime time on reset.
Some people on the west coast work until 5 or 6. When that happens, we probably have at least 30 minutes to get home, meaning we’re home by 5:30 or 6:30, being generous. Can’t enjoy that extra hour of reset if we’re not able to be here for it.2
Well you guys have the whole night to enjoy it. Where as people on the east coast dont. Especially with queues and everything.
Ok, I’ll wait 2 hours in queue and get onto the map by 8pm pacific, play for 30 minutes and then have all the East Coasters log off and reset becomes far less interesting.
So right now you wait 1 hour in queue and still do the same thing?
Moving the time up doesn’t magically make east coasters play longer than they normally would.
And just a thought. Why does EB have to be the same map every time? Why not totally mess with us occasionally and throw an Alpine or Desert map in there for a day or so?
First of all, why would you mess with the only map that gets a queue every single night?
Second, they don’t have tech yet to rotate maps whenever they want, it’s a manual process for them to switch the maps, I don’t care for them to change map every day cause some people are “bored”.
Or… make it night time and give us torches… or make gliders work for a day… or just be kitten creative for once. I know people slammed the golem event, but a ton of players returned for that event. The only problem is that it lasted too long. A week is a lifetime in the modern world.
The problem with the golem event wasn’t that it lasted too long it was only a week, it was because of all the exploits and the buff that broke the game mode and Anet ignored everything about it for the entire week.
For the people that want the desert borderland to be trashed and deleted and never return… get over it. They spent a good amount of time developing it, they’re not going to throw it away, it’s going to be in rotation or permanently in with alpine. Get over your hate and help them fix it with reasonable suggestions.
Why not 3 different maps? With or without color rotation for the maps themselves?
I understand that this would be an immense undertaking and would take a considerable amount of time. That said, I think it would be extremely cool to have one team of servers defending DBL, one defending ABL, and then a third theme for another borderland. An archipelago maybe? You guys could think of something.
Anyway, as a massive WvW fan, that’s where my vote would go.
Because they don’t have 3 separate home borderland maps, and it takes a year to build one, they just got done making the desert borderlands which they are still trying to tweak.
I didn’t think the mix map was possible with their current tech, so I think it would be great to turn one into the desert bl, preferable the red borderlands as red teams are usually the weakest and could use a little extra help. If anything if it gets more popular they could always change two borderlands to desert and one alpine every quarterly update.
I’m sure down the line, if they ever create another borderland map they would look into making all 3 borderlands different and perhaps a random shuffle of them every week.
TLDR: Blame the hunchbacks known as Charr for why we don’t have proper capes now, and likely never will in the future.
Kind of a silly excuse not have them in the game. If they can’t get it to work properly for Char then make it as cloak/cape for every humanoid class and just make it a scarf or something on Char. Same items look different on genders(mantle of the lich for example), whats the difference if they start doing it to the races.
TYLER YES! DBL for redbl and Alpine on blue and green bl.
Give it a shot and see how it goes!
WvW. Everything else is done to fund WvW.
This right here. ^
Chris, please punish all these whiney-kitten kittenes by making reset occur at a random time between noon and midnight EST.
Meh just move it to 10am on mondays.
But if you make it an hour early with the daylight savings it would 8pm est ;-; more time for us est players to play. So basically with the current time the people who can’t play rn will only be able to play reset every 6 months?
Which is 5pm PST. Too early for those living on the West Coast.
Unless our internal R&D project is successful— flattening the Earth so there’s only one sunrise/sunset for everyone— there is no time which exists that will please everyone.
Are you guys trying to get west coast to play with east coast for reset? because there’s queues on every server on reset night just from the east coast, I don’t see the point of that.
By the time the queues starts to die down for the east coast around 12 it’s 9 for the west coast and they have another 3 hours to cover, meanwhile it’s the east coast that lost an hour of play time and maybe more since they have to deal with the bulk of the queue times as well.
Smaller team based games have been doing that for years. I’m sure most games use it for their smaller battleground spvp scenarios as well, to ensure they don’t start them with a ridiculous 10v1 type of teaming. But for a mmo to use it to populate their servers? Haven’t heard of one yet so I was just curious.
Much easier for CU to go with this system from the very start when they are first populating their servers, that itself is going be problematic and I’m sure we’ll hear of players not able to join their friends and guilds right away and having to wait on the other servers to fill up.
Only way that would work in GW2 at this point is to kick everyone off their servers and repopulate them again, which I don’t think would go over very well.
Just remember that on reset night there are usually queues on all 4 maps, even in T4, and on some servers it may even take you an hour to get in to play. So on top of losing an hour by starting at 10 you’re losing time in the queue too, for some people that ain’t much time to play. Mind you for a Friday night more players tend to stay up an extra hour or two. Also not a good idea to line up west coast in the reset time when there’s already queues from the east coast, although those usually taper off by midnight on lower servers anyways.
Nope. This kind of thing can be controlled and has been demonstrated in some old true PvP focused MMO. It cannot be 100% balance, that is for sure but the disparity can be greatly minimized to the point that match up variety will naturally occur due to it.
The current system works like this
There is a algorithm to determine the number of active WvW players.
There is a cap on the server, this cap is assumed to be fixed as it is historical observed to behave so and I read it somewhere that some T1 servers had higher than average cap before the revamped server status. Base on this, stacking and destacking easily occur whenever the cap is not reached. What the really pvp focused MMO did is go a step further
They too have a algorithm to determine the number of active players.
Now, instead of a fixed cap, they calculate the disparity percentage of the fractions and close it if the disparity grew too big. This resulted a scenario where all fractions grow at the same rate. Since the population are rather comparable, a higher degree of population is achieved. At the same time, this system literally prevent large scale movement that involve multiple guilds intending to switch sides. If guild wars 2 use this approach, match up variety will likely increase due to closer population, people that complain server full status will know it will open when the disparity reduce. However, like you said, there is a problem implementing this after 3 long years of stacking which means disparity can be really large and some servers will be locked for a long time. What I can suggest is in accompany with this approach, make last 3 lowest populated servers completely free to encourage movement of players, quickly reducing the disparity gap.
However, before they can use this approach, they need to resolve the number of servers.
What games did that?
There won’t be anymore tournaments.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/4ilemt/current_plans_for_wvw_scoring_overhaul/d309hco
Tyler BIt’ll likely take a number of months to complete all the scoring changes, though we plan to release incremental progress in the form of live betas. The timeline also depends on if the community maintains that scoring is a priority, and they don’t vote for us to shift focus to another feature, like World Linking or Reward Tracks.
No additional WvW Tournaments are currently planned. While they were good for the game in the short term, in the long term they’ve proved to be unhealthy. This means we’ll want to repurpose WvW Tournament Tickets, possibly just as a general match reward, so that players can continue to earn the unique WvW weapon skins.
Fwiw, I don’t think anything can be done about stacking. That is something that Anet can not control, imo.
I don’t think so either, they can’t lock all the servers because then people will complain about not being able to transfer to friends and family on other servers. I’m sure they could look into heavy restrictions for transfers too, but that’s really a waste of time and money. Like I said there were servers that were stacked from the very beginning of the game, it was going to happen one way or another for a multiple server based system.
They changed back reset to the time most players wanted.
No they didn’t, they changed the day not the time that players wanted, 10pm est was convenient to Anet. Most players wanted it at 8/9pm est like the old days.
They didn’t want to put it at that time again because they had patches that interrupt that time period. Anet apparently can’t put patches in an hour earlier, they wait until end of the day of end of the week to put out a patch.
How would you guys solve stacking and population problems? Again seeing people screaming about it but not offering any solutions. Many servers only queue up one map a night (other than BG oh boohoo), so it’s not like anyone feels like they need to move for those reasons.
The top 12 servers are currently locked, if someone wants to stack a server they have to transfer to the lower servers linked to them.
They’ve left it to players and players obviously don’t care enough to help balance this situation, despite people coming in here to complain about it. Fact of the matter is most players want action, they also want an easier time getting it, so they will stack dominating servers.
So what would you have them do? Lower map populations and force queues on them so people consider moving? Offer free transfer to funnel players from the locked servers to lower servers? Actually merge servers and forever destroying 12 NA servers?
Free transfers in the beginning helped unbalance the situation, but even if the free transfers weren’t around there were servers that were already stacked coming out of beta. The tournaments helped unbalanced this situation as well, free transfers and players wanting to stack winning servers, those won’t be back, and the servers who benefited the most with those free transfers aren’t exactly top tier servers right now either.
You know what, at this point I don’t even know why they bother having this as a competition of 12 servers and glicko for ratings, it’s time to break the tiers apart for more specialized play.
Unlink the T8 servers from T1.
Make the old T8 a tier by itself which will be a good home for roamers and small teams, for players who want to be a part of a smaller community.
Make a new tier for gvg’s, the old T2/3.
3 servers where the glicko doesn’t matter, offer free transfers to these servers, but a transfer fee to move. Gvg guilds get a place to play without needing points, without needed glicko, get alpines, ebg, OS for open areas to do random/planned fights.
The remaining 12 servers, merge the bottom 9 with their links. Rename all servers, reset glicko or remove it and do one up one down.
Terrible idea? then stop complaining and come up with your own.
Indeed. I remember someone suggesting this a few years ago — glad to see it in the game finally
I also recall someone mentioning this should be added to the game, glad to see it implemented – it will definitely be very helpful for those who have not yet bought makeover kits yet want to fiddle around with looks.
Now if only ANet would be so kind as to add more accessory colors…

Indeed, an NPC such as Anatomical Engineer Lyle who has the option to let you make changes to your char as a preview would be great. They could even have the option to buy and use makeover changes from him. I used to take my chars to him all the time to try out new looks.

2 years agoI think ArenaNet needs to put in a type of salon/hair shop into the game where a player can preview ALL styles and colors (including exclusives)on their characters and if they like the look, the changes can be made with gems directly through the salon shop.
They can keep the linking system, and just rename all the servers to something like the gods or dragons, so everything feels more unified.
I’m sure they will try to avoid a hardcore merge for as long as possible, merging servers would mean merging the pve population, which may have it’s own set of problems.
Hi AGamer.3168 good point you made on this tropic ! Respect !
Some just don’t get that wanting to play and be in a queue
and wanting to play and then go play without being in a queue
is not the same !The server merge was a flop !
pvp players have screamed about queues in pvp for a long time
players don’t buy and join a game to spend time in a queue
but anet don’t seem to have the iq for things like this
and so they did make sure there came queue times in wvw too.
A lot of servers don’t get those huge queues other than reset night, so the obvious solution for those on BG is to move down a tier or two, players have been saying to destack to the T1 servers for years now, which more recently has happened to JQ and TC. There’s a rotation happening now, but it seems like BG is still the odd one holding out up top.
Pvp has it’s problems because it needs to match 9 other players around your rating, cause no one in amber likes going up against diamond players I’m sure. If there ain’t enough players around your rating on you’ll have a queue, nothing can be done about that.
I used to play WvW pretty much as a team player. Helped the zerg, offered all the help I could, and being a mesmer, would try and hide to port them back into a objective. Revived toons even if it may of cost me my toons life. Would scout, and even baby sit an objective.
Something has happened to my server, last 2 or three times I played, when I was dead, toons would just run on by me trying to keep up with the pin, or hoping to get more bags. Thats fine. My server wants to play that way, im cool with that.
So now I simply stay in the back line, I make NO effort to help scout, or baby sit an objective, and to say I play selfish is a understatement. Things get a bit hot, well I will stealth out, and get out of the fight, and take off. I make no effort to hide any more. I simply take off if it looks like we are gonna loose the fight. I refuse to even tag up any more.
I will continue to play like that til I find a new server. Something I find a better fit, more fun. Don’t care if we “win” or “loose” all the time. This server has become to selfish, to snotty, and all they do is scream “join team speak”. Well tried that for 2 weeks and never could find anyone to “authorize” me. Seen others with the same issue.
NOPE, not mad, just kinda bummed, used to be fun to play on this server, now, its just a drag.
As mentioned they changed the res rules for combat, you can only be ress’ed if you are down, if you are double downed then the players have to get out of combat before they can res you. Everything comes down to what the situation is, whether or not there’s a big battle around you or maybe you have an open wp nearby.
I’ve actually been in the same situation a couple times as well before the res changes, even on a night when I would port zergs into smc, I would be ignored for a res, but have to keep in mind it’s just selfish players here and there, and not the entire server. But I fully understand the let it all burn down attitude. XD
Personally I res when I can when I notice someone is down near me, sometimes when combat is over or moved a ways from me I’ll stay back and help res the double downed, just depends on what the situation is. I won’t be ressing if I’m about to get jumped on into an outnumbered fight though.
NSP and DH really wanted that SMC last night, you guys were relentless on that assault, but it was fun constantly trying to break the siege.
There’s rarely big queues on HoD/EB side, only had an ebg queue of like 5 people all night, other than reset night you get maybe on average 15-20 queue per map for a couple hours. You’ll find the usual zerg vs zerg fights, fair share of roamers and havoc teams, pretty much what the mid tiers were a year ago.
