“Game over man, Game Over!” – RIP Bill
They’re obviously going to put in all the current systems.
Probably kitten more people off if they didn’t include the guild upgrades which a lot of guilds have worked on upgrading since HoT release.
Best you can hope for is they put the waypoint system of old back, and further tweak the tactivators. At least airship defense won’t be around.
Probably because it’s not possible to make 3 separate maps equal in ease and difficulty of defense and attack. Since WvW is scored with winners and losers by server (and map if each is different), if one map is easier than the other two then it has an unfair advantage and that side will win more often than it should.
That sounds like a reasonable explanation. I’ll bet you’re right. It’s too bad though that three different maps couldn’t be functionally similar and gameplay-balanced while still being different thematically and visually.
Yup the 3 home maps need to be equal so that no can argue “well that side has an advantage this week because of X map”. Takes them a year or more to work on wvw maps, as stated when eotm map was created, and evident by the new map.
From the get go they probably should have just made 4 ebg type maps, then they could have dumped the “homebl” concept and we could have had at this point ebg, alpine, eotm, desert as the 4 maps to play on for a matchup.
Is it me or are onlh half the ppl able to read?
Its sad that I need to quote it for you really:
It actually takes quite a bit of time to dust off old content and bring it up to the current game state, so it won’t happen in time for the quarterly release. Instead we’ll launch the quarterly update with improvements to Desert, use that as an opportunity to get the community’s feedback on those changes, then we’ll swap to Alpine when it’s ready.
The borderlands change obviously being the change to Alpine. But sure edit it.
Yeah half the people are able to read. Kinda obvious he’s saying changes to desert bl first with the quarterly update, then take feedback, and then alpine will ship when it’s ready.
Which I’m sure won’t be for a few months at least until they wait and see how much their “improvements” affect gameplay.
So put away the party hats for now.
I completely don’t understand people here. First they moan about Legendaries, because ‘we paid for them’ now they moan about deleting Desert Borderlands. Haven’t you paid for this? I do want Desert Borderlands in the game. I paid for them.
Technically the borderland came for free to everyone, it’s not HoT exclusive as every account can play on it. What you paid for was the guild hall and it’s wvw upgrades to help screw it up.
As for the new legendaries, they are only accessible through HoT as you need to learn masteries and everything else with them in HoT zones, so yes those were paid for.
The new borderland obviously won’t be deleted, but it needs to take a break until they can work out some of the annoying issues with it, and go on rotation with the old map. Obviously this isn’t the big fix wvw needs, but it’s still one that is needed, and probably one of the easier ones for them to do. Now if they would just hurry up before the game mode goes completely dead from waiting.
Giving the desert bl another shot huh? hoping we’ll love it and come back huh? well good luck with that. I guess that’s another 3+ months before Alpine is ready? Not that it matters since there’s a lot of other stuff that needs to be fixed.
Which brings me back to what about all that talk about the stuff that was going to be beta tested in April? We don’t have a clue what you’re doing and what to expect. I’ve kinda put expected wvw updates into the same timeline as legendary weapons now…. what too soon?
If you want free stuff, how about no and grind it out yourself, it’s the game anet build for you to play.
Six months in and none of the systems they designed to speed delivery of new content have resulted in new game content.
Logged in specifically to +1 this. If new systems are developed and implemented to streamline content creation, but then not utilized to actually create content, what’s the point?
They’re already working on the next expansion, with 70 people on the project it most likely means it’s already out of planning phase and full work has begun since the other departments seem to have a skeleton crew running them, maybe these systems are being a benefit to that right now. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if they pushed to have the expansion out by Nov/Dec.
Frankly I wouldn’t have cared if they said they were developing legendary weapons 10 months out on the expansion and then 6 months later they canceled it cause it was time consuming. At that point I hadn’t paid for the expansion, but that point of no return has come and gone, 6 months into it you don’t turn around and put a hold on a feature you already sold.
I have no qualms over SAB, it was free content, if it never returns so be it.
Fractals, the leader board and legendary should already be in the game, put it in and move on.
Dungeons, major Anet mistake.
Living story, free updates that don’t keep me busy for more than a couple hours, but they need them to promote items for the store.
Spvp, fix your broken balance.
Wvw, another major Anet mistake for ignoring it and it’s core players for too long.
Raids, wasn’t really needed in the game, and obviously steering the game into a different direction from original concept.
Guild halls, major kitten up, the game would have been better off without this, seriously.
Don’t think the problem is the systems, it’s the man power assigned to them.
We have a team of six developers working on that, who could work on it for years to come.
So, after shipping Chuka and Champawat, I’ve asked that we indefinitely suspend work on new legendary weapons.
Oh god I’m crying and dying from laughter!
You sold an expansion with new legendary weapons being one of it’s features and now release 4 and put the rest on the back burner.
Seems like you need to put the next expansion on the back burner until you deliver everything on your plate, the rest of the current expansion and the wvw update.
I hope this finally opens people’s eyes as to how this company operates, why do people still have faith and belief in this company. They pushed so hard to get people to prebuy the expansion with as little information as possible, and now they can’t even delivery on everything that was suppose to come with it. The guild halls were such a blunder in grinding they’re even taking the time after it’s release to try and fix that.
If the work for the precursors was too much, maybe should have just made one repeatable epic type of quest to obtain any of them, instead of a unique quest for each one.
P.S Think about this, this isn’t any different than if say they said the recent raid wing is the last one for now, the 5 man team will suspend work on the last wing and go work on the living story instead. How well do you think that would go over?

1. It seems that most are disgruntled with the new maps. Is Anet willing to admit it’s error and go back? I have heard nothing about plans for change from Anet. Propositions from players are plentiful. Has the great Anet spoken?
Anet has acknowledged the dbl as a priority at least, as listed by Mike O’Brien things to look into from the thread XTD listed:
1. Stability & skill balance
2. Fix or revert DBL
3. Rewards
4. Population balance
5. Scoring
2. Does Anet actually care that people are leaving? I’m serious. Do the new game purchases more than make up for the gem purchases of existing players that leave?
I believe Anet’s priority has always been to go after new gem purchasing customers, so they’ve been developing as such trying to continue to attract new players to the game, new player experience revamp, expansion, raids etc. Living story was around to continue providing items for gem purchasers.
When they get a new customer they automatically fall into 3 categories, they won’t buy gems or use gold for purchases, they may buy them for certain stuff (transfers), they buy almost everything on the gem store. More than likely a player will stop buying gems rather than converting to buying gems regularly, so they always have to replenish their pool of gem buyers through new players.
I don’t think they care if the non gem purchaser leave, they’re basically just players to keep gem purchasers company in the game. Maybe gem sales from transfers don’t make as much as we think, and so they think wvw players don’t provide enough gem sales.
I always thought if you don’t keep players happy they will definitely convert to not buying gems anymore, so leaving many of their game systems to rot is baffling, I think they finally realized it’s a problem to look at after the expansion came out and a month later the numbers for wvw kept on dropping.
3. Is the WvW population a small enough percentage of GW2 players that Anet doesn’t care that we don’t like their changes?
Probably, when you look at it if they have 2 million current players and say maybe on average 1000 play for every NA server(generous considering the bottom half of servers), that’s only 24k players in wvw, that’s a drop in the bucket of the player pool.
4. Any advice regarding games that have similar systems to WvW?
Warhammer Return of Reckoning, youtube it, free to play emulator server of the live game which was closed down.
Planetside 2, Eve online, Elder scrolls online, Archeage, Dark age of camelot.
Upcoming options this year:
Camelot Unchained, Crowfall, Life is Feudal, Albion online, Bless online, Star citizen.
Yeah sorry ppt scaling according to population doesn’t work, the imbalance is still there even through the “peak” times. I assume peak times are determined when the greatest amount of players are on for all 3 servers, When are you determining this peak time? can’t exactly be determined right before the start of a new matchup when ppt begins.
Not to mention it will fluctuate, not every guild raids every night, not every server has their greatest amount of players logging on from 8-11pm. do you expect them to check every hour of every day? What happens when a server has enough off coverage to not bring the population lower than 50% of peak during their time? Same ole story? It would be a mess for them to try and determine peak populations for every matchup and then have to keep checking on server population constantly to determine the scoring “penalty”.
P.S Time Slice Scoring.
im not disagreeing but i think trebs put the bigger server further in front. both sides have equal chance to use them to take stuff, but it makes defense a lot harder for the smaller server.
my 2 cents~
A bigger server doesn’t need to use trebs to take a keep, they mostly resort to taking a tower to do so if a just as big force is holding the keep and won’t come out, or the defenses are well placed to even get close to getting siege down, and yes the odd times they will take it that way just to mess with your morale.
Well placed siege and knowledgeable operators can counter almost anything the enemy sets down around the keep, with the exception of a couple spots which require you to leave the keep to counter, swt and nec. You can also take most of those towers back with keep trebs except for swt. Something the new maps are missing.
An omega golem rush is a different story.
P.S I hope no one is under the delusion that bringing back the old bl is going to bring people back in droves, some may return, but there are many other problems that drove a good number of them away, guildhalls, tactivators, banners, pirate ship, condi meta, forced to pve, etc.
One of the drawbacks of the Alpine maps was that most structures had no reason for you to defend, aside from PPT. The reason to defend the garrison was not just symbolic, but for the valuable waypoint. In EOTM and Desert BL, structures that give you buffs give you a reason to defend aside from just passive points.
Um no, towers in alpine and ebg can be used to take the bigger structures, swt could hit bay, set could hit hills door, nwt net both could hit garrison, in ebg every forward tower can hit smc(cept ogres red keep takes that place). Now the new dbl? yeah they certainly don’t serve any purpose other than looking different from each other.
Towers served as alternative ways to get the outer walls down if an enemy was entrenched in their keep, it forced your enemies to either come up with counter siege attacks or even bring their own force out to try and take back that tower. Especially if it threatened a waypoint.
They’ve messed with the tower and waypoint ideals when they made the new map, which it made it even worse.
P.S They won’t scrap the new bl obviously, too much work was put into it, but I’m sure they will continue to tweak it at some point. and eventually on rotation with the alpine map.
(edited by Xenesis.6389)
The people who don’t want any sort of ppt basically just want PvP.
They want sGvG … structured Guild vs Guild.
And Anet should give it to them.
Should just send them all a copy of guild wars 1 and be done with it, because they will most likely never get that game mode catered to just them in gw2, Anet has a lot of broken stuff to worry about fixing right now than adding more new stuff. They added obsidian sanctum, they added an arena to guildhalls, (mind you should be bigger and I don’t know who’s boneheaded idea that was when they already had OS as a template to follow and guildhalls certainly are big enough to hold a bigger arena), they have huge maps to roam around looking for fights.
If I were a fight guild, I would encourage all fight guilds to move to the lower tiers so that they can control and regulate the PPT and have their fights and set their siege ground rules and GvG to their hearts content. Let the PPT players hold the upper tiers and backcap each other ad nauseam.
Hello Tier 3 Mags/CD/SBI last year before it fell apart, they won’t go lower as they get less guilds and pugs to fight on the days they’re not gvging.
As for structures taking them out would be a mistake, they provide points and also serve as a place to promote fights, right down to the towers on the alpine and ebg maps which you can use to take other structures, new map not so much. With or without point scoring structures can always be made useful for a place to promote fights.
Need to just drop any type of scoring because the populations will never be on near equal conditions, which they need to be for competitive scoring. The only servers that were even close to that were maybe the T1/T2 servers at one point when they could queue up all 4 maps for long periods of time.
There are a few other rvr/wvw games that have done it without scoring, Dark age of camelot, planetside, warhammer online, etc. They would of course need to implement something to drive players to play for. Daoc had artifacts for players to capture for bonus stats, planetside had bases to capture for bonuses such as access to certain weapons or vehicles they also used a lattice system so you had to capture certain bases before others which funneled players into fights, warhammer you had to capture keeps and lock down zones in order to work your way into eventually attacking the opposing sides main city.
They cannot control the population unless they go to an eotm system which will allow all sides to draw on a large pool of players into a population capped play area, especially if it’s the rumored factions version which will allow them to draw upon all players without server/side limitations.
Only other thing to do is control scoring, time slice scoring, which would limit time zones to compete with themselves and minimize the effects of night capping.
We’re not currently working on scoring and that has to be a longer-term project.
Um, was this not even part of the overhaul that was in the works for over a year now?
Did MO’B just say that skill balance and maps will now be a higher priority than population balance and rewards? I guess I will be hanging out in sPvP for a long while. :P
Honestly skill balance isn’t going to require a lot of work as I’m sure they will not make changes to upset spvp. New map is obviously a problem, old map just needs the new rules implemented, it doesn’t need a complete overhaul. Two things that they can probably get done soon and out the door.
SkyShroud, it seems that during the recent AMA it was mentioned that the big overhaul isn’t going to happen. The big update was delayed, became a bigger update, then delayed again. Then they realized they should stop digging the big hole they were in.
I’m not sure how much of that I can believe, I mean they just kept piling on new things to the update? They don’t do that for any other part of the game, most developers don’t keep adding stuff to something they are developing and delay it months on end.
Plus everything should have been planned from the start before development, not have Billy joe bob come in on day 75 of the development and say “Hey guys I have an idea that will really make the pve players happy to join wvw lets add it in!”… “OKAY!”
But then delay the entire thing another 6 months? That excuse seemed a little ridiculous, sorry.
sorry, if it can be done, it is already done. obviously, the programming to do so did not exist and making it will further delay the wvw overhaul.
They can do automated player moves from server to server, so I’m sure they are able to do mass migration. But in any case that’s not even needed. All Anet needs to do is let all wvwer’s in the bottom 3 or 6 or 9 servers know that they are merging wvw up, offer free transfer for those servers to the top 15 18 21 servers (NA numbers). Give players on those servers a week to make the move, also gives those players time to inform other players who left and may want to move as well. Then close off those bottom servers for wvw and leave them as pve megaservers. This will not “break up communities”, if the communities want to stick together then pick a server together and move.
I’m sure Anet is hoping the update will change things enough to attract players again and won’t need to do merges, hell they certainly won’t need to if they bring in eotm/alliance style matching anyways. But who are we kidding, wvw was probably slowly dying since 3 months after release, HoT helped shed a lot of players, it would be a miracle for wvw to even get back to pre expansion wvw numbers at this point in my opinion.
(edited by Xenesis.6389)
Move it back to Friday same time as before 8/9pm est, 5/6 pm pst, when probably the largest volume of wvw players are normally on. Then set the latest you would run a patch 1 hour before that reset time. I don’t even know why you guys would run a patch at the very end of day when potential emergency issues could crop up after.
There have been times when a patch went through on friday and screwed up some stuff for the entire weekend. Only game breaking emergency patches should be considered for friday release, leave everything else for early monday if anything.
Also, probably too late for this change anyways, but it’s nice that you guys are at least giving this some consideration.
Dulfy also has a good summary up.

Bottom line is you’re going to have to wait until the “revamp” to see if they fix this issue.
Why is it so hard for people to get behind time slice scoring? It’s been suggested numerous times in the past 3 years. It does not penalize players in any way for stats or exclusion from ppt, which is the ridiculous solution most people are trying to push again these days. Any penalization will not make players happy, stop suggesting anything that penalizes other players over you.
- Time slicing breaks scoring down to blocks, 3 2 1 point system for 1 2 3 placed server in that block, keeps the overall score numbers smaller and easier to catch up.
- It doesn’t matter if your side scores 20k points in that block while the other two only scored 8k and 2k, you get 3 overall points, the 8k gets 2 and the 2k gets 1.
- 6 hour blocks so that all major prime times get to make a difference in their block (prime time is usually for 3-4 hours). 8pm-2am/2am-8am/8am-2pm/2pm-8pm est.
- Players no matter what time zone, only compete with others in their own time zone, no more runaway day/night capping scoring that runs up the scoring by 10-20k per day/night.
If you need a simpler picture, eotm plays for 3 hours, it’s a time slice, you award points at the end of that session 3 2 1, continue this until the match ends.
Or a sports game like soccer or hockey gets played in the 2-3 hours, the two teams go away with their 3(soccer) 2(hockey) 1(ties) points for their overall scoring and standings, that continues on until end of season.
Team with the most blocks won, wins the matchup. Then instead of the busted glicko system and random placement, winning server moves up a tier, 2nd team stays, 3rd team moves down a tier.
To those that keep suggesting penalties for the amount of players, for the time zones other than your own, please just stop and think about the situation reversed on you.
Pfft there’s not that many wings in the game…

OMG you guys, they just said it last month that they are working on it and it will be ready later this year, you guys want a daily blog or something? I mean there’s nothing much to say for a daily blog unless you want to hear about pve stuff the wvw staff are working on. I’m sure they’ve come in here and read the thread titles, and have a good idea of how to revive wvw.
God they’re on year four of the five year wvw overhaul, cut them some slack. I’m sure they will be out of planning phase soon, and they will let us know a week before when it’s ready for live release, they’ll even have a one paragraph blog set up everyday to highlight the main things coming, so have some patience. Four year wait is not as bad as waiting for your kids to grow up and leave for college.
P.S They don’t respond in these sub forums, and a lot of doubt that they even read it. No point in trying anymore.
How about we wait to see what they will offer to the players leaving, to encourage them to come back and play, especially the wvw players. No more blind faith and handing over money to support their dumb design decisions (eg guildhall war room), a lot of players already did that just blindly pre-purchasing the expansion and got burnt badly, we need to fork over more money to encourage them to fix the mess they’ve created? Players leaving every day and posting hundreds of complaints about the game should be motivation enough to get fixes and changes done now.
They want to sit on wvw problems for another 6-12 months after 3 years of ignoring it, that’s their problem, don’t be surprised if a lot of those players don’t return. Free transfers to merge wvw populations should have been done more than a year ago.
As someone else put it, I paid Anet $67 to make me fall out of love for wvw and quit GW2. GG, QQ, good luck repairing that damage.
(edited by Xenesis.6389)
After playing since head start, I left the game about 2 weeks after HoT release and happily playing other games.
Same.
Finished Nevermore a couple weeks ago and don’t even login anymore for the daily rewards. Overall I have been a big fan of GW2 since BWE2, but it’s clear now this esport/spvp focus has taken this game in a direction I no longer want to be a part of.
Same.
Finished making Sunrise about a month ago, then basically quit the game, log in every once in a while just to check for messages. Also played from the beta weekends, which at one time I had thought this was going to be the best mmo ever, will never need to play any others…. oh well.
The game is taking a different direction with content, combat(too much focus on conditions), op specs, etc. Goodbye wvw, hopefully the developers in future wvw games will treat you better.
This argument again.
Let’s get some things straight here. Buying an expansion is not considered “pay 2 win”, it’s pay to progress, especially in regards to pve. When you get an expansion and move on to the new content you are leaving behind those who did not, you are not “winning” over these players, you are not getting an advantage over those players, you are continuing your own progression. This is the biggest mistake people are making with this argument.
Pay 2 win is when you pay for an upgrade to get an advantage over players around you, for pve this really has no effect other than the player paying reaches the goals faster over others, but you both can reach that goal. It has a huge effect on pvp as that is always a competition between players, for comparison it’s basically having people taking steroids in real sports to get an advantage over their competition.
Here’s the difference between expansions for most other mmo’s and gw2 in regards to pvp. In most other mmo’s they would raise the level caps, they would introduce new skills/traits/talents in those new levels, and players who get the expansion will move into their own level brackets away from players who don’t get the expansion.
So in the end they don’t have an advantage over those who didn’t get the expansion because they’re not even competing with each other, everyone with or without the expansion has access to the same stuff so it’s a “level” playing field. Yes to stay competitive and at the top especially in areas such as the arena, you need to buy the expansion to get to the top level, but again that is not p2w, you are not paying for an advantage, that is paying to progress with others who got the expansion.
For gw2 they are setup differently in that you don’t gain levels in pvp, everyone is just scaled to 80 and all pvp players play together, from f2p, b2p, and expansion players, they all play spvp together in the same pool, there is no hard separation like other mmo expansions. Yes there is mmr and season ranks now, but those reset, and there is no hard line between core and expansion players.
So here is the problem in regards to pvp. Right now some, if not most elite specs are better than their core specs, so expansion players are seen to have an advantage over others now who are still on f2p/b2p. Players feel they cannot be competitive with most core specs now unless they upgrade with the expansion, this is why they are considering the expansion elite specs a pay 2 win situation in regards to pvp. All you need to do is take a look at the meta the past three months to see what has happened.
The only way this p2w tag is going to come off is if all specs old and new are better balanced to each other, which will take some time with balance passes, or expansion players are made to play with other expansion players and f2p/b2p play in their own pool as they all will have equal access to what’s provided, but that will likely never happen.
I’m sure more elite specs will be released down the road, what happens if they start releasing them through the gem store? What happens if they too are better than all the other specs? would that not be considered p2w for pvp as well?
(edited by Xenesis.6389)
Why would any old regular scout or defender be around these days?
They released an automated upgrade system that didn’t require scouts to look after.
They released a guildhall that destroyed small wvw guilds that for the most part were regular scouts and defenders.
They destroyed guild catas that made it easier for a handful of defenders to take back their stuff when it wasn’t prime time.
They released a map that very little wanted to play on.
That drove players out of wvw or the game.
That then drove most remaining players to ebg and eotm, who wants to leave ebg for defense calls when it’s queued now?
They left all that crap in for 3 months now, enough time for players to change their play style and do something else.
They were being used in WvW to skip over walls and jump into keeps and towers.
Then make those walls taller…? Add an invisible barrier since nothing should be entering those keeps and towers? But don’t break a movement mechanic. Plus, Wings of Resolve is already bugged on its own so it was effectively nerfed this patch.
Invisible barriers would probably also stop siege shots as well so not exactly a good solution. They could make walls taller, but they’ve already tried to fix their messed up wall graphics like 4 or 5 times since HoT launched, the next time they mess with it to make walls taller would probably break the game…… no like seriously….. it would. XD
Thieves got buffed, expect a lot more of them showing up again. Stealth and it’s counters, is, and always will be, crap in this game. They don’t care about ppk as it adds basically nothing except for zerg fights, they’re doing it for kittens and giggles.
Also, three ways to get out of spawn, use one of the other two and stop feeding the farm.
That wvw is “dead” you cannot blame anet. People chose before the BL was up it was kitten and they refused to play on it and so it happened. If wvw is dead it’s because of the players/guilds who didn’t want to play on it.
You can blame anet for the things which aren’t working properly and isn’t fixed. I do think some stuff should be not in the borderlands or has to work with WvW, but people can say we will not use it. If all people hate the PVE event in middle, don’t do it.
Also the PVE event on the new BL, on the old BL we had PVE events and even in EB there are PVE elements in it. But people seem to have forgotten that.
Really? even when they were TOLD what was wrong with the map back in BETA, but they choose to ignore it and release the map according to their vision and not the players. Players choose not to play on it because they don’t like it, it’s that simple, now it’s up to anet to fix it, not for players to force themselves to enjoy just for the sake of playing wvw, they can go back to 3 years worth of forum threads and figure it out.
Sorry you can’t blame the players for the lack of communication, lack of development, and the lack of understanding of what the players want. Anet have been told, they ignore, that’s on them not the player.
You can go ahead and cover your ears, ignore the faults, and enjoy whatever they throw out, that’s up to you, but the game mode is bleeding veteran players out of the game at a faster rate than before HoT. Telling people to “stop being lazy and try harder” to enjoy content should tell you something there about the content in the first place.
It kinda feels like you lazy kittens don’t want to learn something new.
new dumb dumb dumb “meta” your just learning hard.
cursing and screaming at every lesson saying how terrible this is.
new generation of secretly try hards.
Try a little fliipping harder.
but i think you understand what im trying to say. maybe?
And everyone else. Im not saying your all wrong. I apologize if it came off that way. but kitten some of these responses.
lol, sounds like you’re the one who needs to understand what’s going on with WvW before coming in here and hurling insults. There’s a long list of reasons of things wrong with WvW today than it was at release, maybe you should take some time to read about them and understand why players are leaving wvw or gw2 before trying to call them out.
If you’re still having fun then good for you, some people are just tired of the 3 years of kitten kitten.
You mean RvR is dead becuse there no other rvr game type out there other then GW2 WvW and that not surprising becuse RvR never last all that long at high number in NA. Its just not a game type that has a long life becuse it going to burn ppl out becuse of the 24/7 game play.
There is, Google “Return of Reckoning”. Here’s a game that focuses on RvR, has over 700 during EU time. Don’t give up, CU, Albion, and Black Desert still have a chance.
Current RvR Options:
Warhammer online: Return of Reckoning
Planetside 2

Elder scrolls online

Plus a few others that exist in asia or upcoming as well, just have to search for them.
Also WvW only games can thrive in NA if they are developed and maintained well, there is a market for it, I don’t think games have reached properly into it as yet. GW2 will probably end up being the best still anyways because of it’s combat system, too bad it’s wasted.
There’s always going to be pendulum swings, warriors use to be one of the top classes now they’re pretty much the bottom, but it’s worse when it’s left for too long, like for instance celestial elementalist. Waiting 6-8 months on balance updates is not acceptable on a game that has just introduced 9 new trait lines, a new class, new weapons, skills, running esports tournaments, the broken stuff needs to be fixed. I mean they even had to do an emergency quick tweak in december because of what was developing with mesmers and revenants. Also don’t forget they haven’t really done much balance fixes even from the June 23 patch that changed a lot of traits and boosted damage.
Just keep something in mind, the classes will never be balanced, the goal always is to get them as close to balanced as possible, but it will never happen, some changes will push a class ahead or behind. But you don’t really know about those changes until they are tested by the players, and with a faster cycle to tweak skills you can get to the goal faster.
I’m sure by the end of the year they may get to a point where things are reasonable and they may not need to do much changes, they will look at skills and think maybe it needs another 3 months of testing before we give it a tweak. But the first balance pass since the expansion needs to come out as soon as it’s ready.
They’ve already committed to a 3 month balance patch cycle for the sake of the tournaments, how much more time do you want them to take? go back to the 6-12 month cycle they had before? The game is hurting for a balance patch since the expansion came out, especially since it seems not enough testing was done in beta for all classes.
This patch needs to go through, to fix the obvious broken kitten from the expansion, and let the extra polish happen in the next patch after when there’s more balance. Also keep in mind that not every change has been listed yet, it’s going to take more than 1 patch to fix warriors.
Don’t know why you guys bother asking, I mean how long do you actual think it would take them to implement this change into wvw? it’s not just a flip of the switch, they have to go through every single structure on every map and make sure players can’t fly into them.
Already takes them over a year to make 1 map, the overhaul which they are busy with, is going to take them like close to 2 years to complete when it’s said and done. Enjoy gliding in 2 years?
Sheesh.
WvW is dying because:
1. New map – many different issues that have been stated over and over for the past 6 months (yes all the way back into beta), not going to restate them just going to say it’s not as good as the alpine map.
2. Guildhalls – partly killed small guilds because of the upgrade costs, all guild upgrades have been ripped out of vanilla and placed back into HoT guildhalls with massive upgrade cost. Guild arenas have partly pulled guilds out of wvw.
3. Guild catas – a staple to small groups had it’s cost doubled, which effectively killed small group havocing.
4. Scribing – that came with guildhalls, massive cost and mats, need it to create schematics for all the upgrades to claimable structures, except auras which you also have to upgrade in the guildhall war room. +5 not until guild level 37.
5. Banners – the ultimate pay off for upgrading your hall and scribing, the new dragon and turtle banners are now throwing imbalance into fights.
6. Class balance – op specs have changed the balance of fights, pirate ship meta.
7. Bugs – numerous wall bugs, invulnerable walls, shoot through walls, too much hitpoint walls, heck even graphical wall bugs, I sure did enjoy having that oil pot on the 3rd floor of smc. Fixes have been slow coming…
8. Auto upgrades – mostly killed the reason for scouts to check on structures regularly, at least that’s being changed a bit in killing the definite timer to upgrade, now scouts and roamers will sorta be needed again for dolyak runs.
9. Friday night reset night – killed “the” night to do wvw, moved it a day forward to Saturday, which killed a day of meaningful wvw for everyone. Reset still gets it’s fights on, just doesn’t seem to last as long as friday resets use to.
10. Last but not least, new wvw format in whatever form, is not expected for maybe 6+ months from now, after being worked on for over a year already, after we’ve been strung along in this old dying format for 3 years already.
At first I was thinking maybe you’re new to the game, but sounds like you’ve been around for the 3 years…
This is the first time I’ve heard about something like anet recording bots in game…
They have chat logs, they don’t need actual recording bots…
Why would Anet need Anet tagged recording bots when they have a world full of npcs to do the same thing?…
The Anet tag is an actual guild tag for the anet guild…
Anet employees are not required to wear the anet tag, many of them are members of regular guilds…
My mind is also blown, from this thread…
Not up to you to dictate whether anyone got their money’s worth or not.
Also, the policy is inconsistent with past decisions in which duplicate town clothes, infinite gathering tools, etc. were refunded.
Who said “I” dictated whether or not someone got their money’s worth?
I’m restating what the GM said. Go ahead and argue with Anet with that.
Personally, I’m glad I didn’t buy any of these items people are clammering to get a refund for, so nothing in this for me either way.
The only thing about this that is remotely a scam is the fact that they’re not refunding extra sets of tools and salvage kits. That is just dirty.
Agreed. Not refunding multiple terrace / airship passes, infinite salvage tools, etc. is very poor.
Also…
GM AwesomenessReally you can select anything on the ticket form and your ticket will get to the right person eventually. In this case, I would suggest “In-game Issue” and then “Trading Post/Gem Store problem.”
As for refunds: if you’ve had these account-bound items for ages, we won’t be doing refunds because you’ve already derived substantial benefit. If, however, you bought them more recently, we’re doing refunds on a case-by-case basis.
Case by case basis, if you bought it recently you have a chance for a refund, if you bought them some time ago you got your money’s worth.
Inventory slots are able to be filled with Bags (inventory bags), the patch notes do NOT state a non-bagslot item.
There you go.
You can put bags in regular inventory slots which are actually space provided from open bags that are sitting in bag slots. You are also not able to open those bags while they are in the inventory slots though, only when they occupy a bag slot which the new inventory slots are not.
Anyone who thought it was a bag slot didn’t read the notes properly. No scam in this instance.
Why would the footfall effect be on when you’re not using it as the current weapon? The legendary effects are not on all the time as long as you have them equipped, it’s not like armor pieces, if the weapon is swapped to the secondary set it’s basically unequipped at the moment.
Also… if support can’t do anything, how will the forums help? What kind of answer is that, lol anet support.
These features have been asked for by the wvw community for years now. They did a test for ppk like over a year ago, and then it was never heard about again, (which means it’s something that could have already been running for the past year). They’re only throwing it back out there now since they need to calm/stall players till the big overhaul is ready. But at this time a lot less players care about points anyways.
They’ve been working on it for over a year, so in other words when it finally comes out it would have been what 1.5-2 years for development? the same it takes to develop a full sized expansion? Boy, those wvw changes better be mind blowing.
In the meantime, enjoy your ppk and new rally mechanics ladies and gents, that’s all you’re getting in the near future.
Creating expansion takes years. They started working on HoT right after the main game release. You know, company like ArenaNet has many teams and each works on something else. From what I have read about the balance between regular updates and expansions, I understand that we should expect new story update every 4-6 weeks and that way we can go kill another dragon in 2 years instead of 3. I think that is nice….
I think you failed. You have zero data, yet you are making a big claims.
If you really think they started working on HoT right after the main game release something must be wrong with you. The first HoT map wasn’t finished in the first betas and some dev said that quite a lot of the stuff in the HoT trailer (shown late January 2015 – 9 months before release) was mostly placeholder stuff.
It really feels like they started on the expansion about the time when they worked on LS2. So a little bit over a year dev time.
Mike O’Brien did say it somewhere. I don’t remember where, but I’m 100% sure he said it. I think it was a year ago on that big reveal event. And don’t pick my words…. They worked on Mordremoth jungle expansion/new maps and story….call it however you want.
From the beginning it was just a small team. As the time passed, they got bigger. I REMEMBER this saying this somewhere. The only thing they weren’t sure about was how to present it. In the end, they decided for classic expansion release. You know, creating content worth of expansion is not just programming and drawing art. It takes thousands hours of discussing, brainstorming, trying and erasing.
And by the way, do you really think they didn’t figured out the expansion order before base game launch? They had 5 more dragons and I am quite sure it is already decided on all of them. Every MMO company like ArenaNet has a roadmap for many years ahead. Look at Blizzard…they decided about expansion order pretty much 10 years ago. Or was it more?
As of 2013 Anet was stating they had no plans on making expansions. They wanted to be different and their plan was to experiment and go with living stories as a way to continue introducing content into the game, with the gem store being the main source to help fund that development.
Something changed last year and made them think they needed to release an expansion this year instead, maybe they thought it best to release the elite specs that way instead of gem store purchases, who knows. Obviously they had been working on maguuma since living story season 2, with drytop and silverwastes as the beginning steps.
The first year they were working on china release and getting the living story off the ground. Second year they improved on living story system with season 2 and started work on maguuma, revamped some ground foundations with feature packs for stuff like the leveling and wardrobe system. Third year they were fully focused on the expansion, barely anything major was released during that time. It takes Blizzard about 2 years to release an expansion that’s about 2x the size of HoT, you can’t seriously think Anet took 3 years to develop HoT.
Anet has been experimenting with systems since Gw1, this year they will do a lot less of that and want to focus on adding more to their existing systems. I’m sure they have an idea of content to release down the road, but I don’t believe they ever had a long roadmap on how to deliver it like Blizzard had for WoW with expansions, but it seems like they are now walking down that path with talk of another expansion already.
It’s obviously his warrior with a rifle spec wearing the Arctic Explorer outfit, geez guys not everyone plays a revenant.
Replace EBG with EOTM and replace the 3 borderlands with 3 EBG, everyone will be happy!
Do you remember the times:
- When building wp in garry during Friday reset night was something special
- Holding garry for entire mu was server pride
- One or several guilds running to defend north towers when scouts where screaming for help, usually map respond was hold it for next 10-15 sec and we are there
- Ques on enemy borders and no open tag only guilds running closed raids there
- Preparing home border every day for prime time so we could have epic battles that lasted 30-60 min in hills or bay, sometimes even more
- Open guild raids on every border on reset night
- All salt on black forums between guilds, commanders and fanboyz
- Borderlands filled with enemy roamers who did sniping and havocI could go on but for me that where the times of guild wars when guilds fought and respected each other when you saw 2 guild fighting and you would not disturb their scrim but rather w8 for your turn.
For me commanders are the fuel for WvW and are the once that bring and keep players in wvw and on teamspeak if they leave the game wvw will become k-train only.
PS: I did lot of commanding in T1 EU before but perhaps only 10 hours in HoT something just don’t feel right
Ah the good ole days.. feels like it was just yester.. 3 months ago….. /cries
CU doesnt look good, but I just watched a video review about Crowfall, and that seems a lot more interesting with seasons, different game types which will last a few months before changing to another!
Basically all the potential we seem GW2 having but in another game!
Camelot is still in alpha, beta maybe in spring, so it ain’t going to be pretty yet. Crowfall is closer to release, in the end they’re both options that players are looking to now more than ever.
GW2 been working on a gameplan for wvw for a year now? yet they took one of their main guys off it way back in march? who doesn’t even work for the company now? These guys don’t even talk to the players about wvw like the spvp guys sometimes do, I guess they got it all figured out. Wvw has already lost so many players it’s so sad what the game mode has turned into after 3 years.
Go home thread, you’re drunk….
Maybe they should allow Ruby/Diamond/Legendary players to start at Emerald Division at the start of the next season, that way it would give new players into Amber some breathing room to advance and not be totally crushed at the beginning of the season.
It would also be a nice extra perk to those players. Mind you those players will make it out of Amber pretty fast in any case.
They had like 2 beta tests for the new map. The very first night had a lot of legit wvw commanders and guilds around, not just streamers, but I only got to play about 2 hours of that test so I don’t know how the rest of it went.
For the second test, everyone from the first test could participate, only they weren’t notified of this. The only players who got emails were the newly invited testers, so the first day was basically a ghost town. Anet had to come to the forums and post a reminder that players from the first test could still participate, but that was too late. I think a lot of players had already wrote the map off from the first test.
In any case the new map isn’t the only thing that has killed wvw, it’s one of many nails they hammered on crooked and now it’s bent and it’s a pain in the kitten to straighten, and you just want to rip that sucker back out and use screws instead, but they’ll end up just hammering the kitten thing until it’s down one way or another.
