blast gyro doesn’t crit
It could really be awesome with a high amount of base damage. But like this… meh… please fix this “BUG”… #high frustration here
Am I the only one? Apparently it has the basic 4% crit chance any minion has, so it will indeed crit against critters. But this just makes this skill from top to flop wich is quite sad.
Why not let it inherit our crit chance and crit damage? What’s the kitten problem already??? =_= I called this one since the beta… Just terrible…
It’s a great change the mobs won’t get pulled over the center anymore. Sure it’s a nerf for eotm or wvw in general since you can’t throw ppl off cliffs anymore, but for pve I think it’s a great change.
Yet now the mobs won’t get pulled into the center anymore, they get pulled towards the wall itself wich makes stacking impossible. The probably best pull in the game became the worst now…

Here you go: I’ve once made a definitly correct excel document about eagle vs scholar and zerk vs “how much” assassin.
There is personal and phantasmal damage, aswell reflected and normal damage, aswell unbuffed and buffed.
It took me some time to print screen everything in excel xD But if you have any questions, go ahead!

Better wait for the patch where new runes may arrive and scholar price will drop for sure. I doubt anyone keeping 90% hp in the jungle for a good amount of time, neither in raids. But let’s see.
iSwordsman deals 60% more dps than iDuellist, aslong as it survives ofc. On the other hand this is no longer an argument … tomorrow!
The block can be cast to unleash a dazing piercing bolt that stacks tons’ of vuln and maybe even powerblock for nice damage. This is mainly viable in pve, rather than pvp. For pvp the pistol just has more survivability and a fast interrupt / stun.

In the end yes – there are situations where S and P are superior to each other.
Nothing feels better than two orbital strikes into a water field, followed by EG #4 <3

According to some testings of a friend of mine (so unconfirmed by my own testings), for a lv82 mob you need like 110% crit chance and for a lv84 mob probably about 120% to reach “true” 100% crit chance. Therefore 110% crit chance may be a good goal for some enemies.
We also haven’t seen the new food yet, from the cook at 500. Maybe there are total different nourishment buffs aviable like +10% dmg from reflections / companions, after evading / blocking +300 power / precision / ferocity for X sec etc. The possibilities are limitless.
Yea warlock misses quite often if the target changes direction or stops moving while the projectile is in mid air. The projectile also sticks to the ground wich makes it unaviable in places where cliffs are.
I’d prefer a chaos beam like attack from the warlock, like the illusionists in arah or simply scepter #3 / GS 1#. But for having some counterplay at least → a homing projectile like staff #1, but with a good visible animation.
iWarlock outdamages iSwordsman at 7 conditions.
Without diing illusions – 3 warlocks in a full dps build and we’re top tier … :P
Fencer’s Finesse. Aslong as the target is not a structure (you can crit it) assassin is better than zerk dps wise, even when ignoring reflects. When taking reflects into consideration, assassin stats are even better. The only way for a zerker to outshine an assassin mesmer is when both are completly unbuffed or when the target is not critable.
How could one NOT see the difference between those icons? o.ô
If blast gyro can crit now and the CD is “just” 20, it may have it’s uses. Especially since it’s toolbelt is now a stunbreak.
The purge one just feels like a portable null field wich makes it a pure defensive skill. The problem with that is that I’d rather take the EG and use #5 on myself or #3 on allies and still being able to dish out tons of damage with #4. +stunbreak :P
The toolbelt of the purge is just so laughtable weak, a no direct damage poison field with only a few tics is just … cute :/ combined the skill AND it’s toolbelt leave just a crappy skill. Some AWESOME stuff would be nice. Not op or ultra strong, just something unique that can shine in specific situations.
I’d like to have a purge only absorb all the conditions, also he should get 1 sec resistance per sec. This way he can soak up all the conditions. The toolbelt should then inflict those conditions in a small area.
Purge and shredder are the underwhelming ones. I probably will never use them the way they currently are.

Old phantasm meta had to account for phantasm fragility, and also suffered immensely anyway because often you just can’t.
New phantasm meta pops iWarden/iDefender/iAvenger and watches in amazement as it facerubs the boss and stays alive.

It would be indeed nice if their blow up would cause different effects and if ALL the toolbelts got really good effects. I mean seriously – what could you best do with the short weak poison field of the purge gyro? Meh … Well lets see in 4 days what else they did ^^
This conversation becomes kind’a childish now … let’s better go back to topic:
The function gyro has limited uses in PvE, this is true. We can only use it after someone made a mistake, to ress him/her. Yet what can we do to our enemies with it? I can’t think of something special right now … I guess I struggle to think of something new because of how it activates. I have to target something ranged and press “F” on range? Hm … maybe more could be done with another button, F6, weapon swap button while not using a kit or something…
Actually weapon swap while not using a kit sounds pretty good! Like to overcharge the weapon one does use right now, giving the next skill 2-5 an additional effect while under the effect of “function gyro” You know? The “heat thing” we’ve always wanted.

I did play BWE3 and tried serval builds with the scrapper. The gyros were so bad, none of them were viable in the current meta dps wise, only for some niches… Therefore we only could judge the traits and weapon skills.
Replacing tools with scrapper is only a dps loss if you ignore vulnerability (or if it’s capped by short fights with ele lightning storm) and if you can keep up the full endurance bar for the 10% damage modifier in tools.
I have to admit, keeping up the full endurance bar in fractals or the jungle so far is pure wishful thinking. Without a very high uptime of that trait, tools hasn’t really much to offer dps wise, only trough lower CDs on the toolbelts itself and QoL with streamlined kits.
The scrapper traitline on the other hand offers a strong main hand weapon with much more vulnerability and damage, aswell as a 10% damage modifier for it. Besides that the trait “expert examination” causes additional vulnerability (and weakness) with dazes and stuns wich leads to higher passive damage.
I’d say there is nothing wrong with a straight forward tools-to-scrapper build. But in the end, if the content becomes really that challenging, we will adapt eventually. Yet for theorycrafting, I’d say scrapper will outdamage tools everywhere but in dungeons where you simply don’t have to dodge at all.
So we go full support Mes with illusions, inspirarion and chronomancer? sword shield + sword focus? :P

Turrets should be much tankier, yet critable, affected by conditions and have a medium-high CD. Yet they should be healed really fast by the tool kit aa. So you pet them to stay strong, wich should be effective, but if you fail to sustain them all you shall be kittened

No seriously – it’s a bit of a downer that skills like sic’em or analyze (or the new elite gyro toolbelt) do not work on mobs in pve, neither Mossy, nor any stealth skelk or lux or cougar nor ANYTHING. It’s rare that a pve mob goes invisible, but then the few skills we have to prevent that should at least work, don’t ya think?

Yea I do. It’s a straight up buff wich makes me doubt the core design about skills like gyros, spirit weapons / elementals, minions, turrets, mantras or ranger spirits.
I’m not saying we should be able to keep up 100% companion duration. But it’s simply not correct to have the same CD for a skill when it had it’s full duration of an effect or just got disabled. It makes you not care about them at all.
For example medic gyro: It now has a 20 sec CD, lasts 14 sec and heals ~4500 + 800/3 over 14 sec.
So now if I summon the gyro and blow it up right away, I’ve got a neat 5300 heal every 20 sec. This equals 265 HP/s.
If I summon it and protect it for it’s full duration, It’ll take 14 sec to heal me 8500 and has a 20 sec CD after that. This equals 250 HP/s.
You see the mistake there? I want to blow it up right away, so I have more spike heals and more HP per sec. But If I don’t who cares …
If the CD would be 25 for example, starting on summon, you get REWARDED for keeping it up. Or rather the other way around, the enemy gets REWARDED for killing it. The current version is just a cute decoration without any meaning if it’s alive or not. And THAT is the design flaw I hate so much.
So ANet, tell me your thoughts on that design step … backwards :/

Mesmer never had just ONE build. There will be multiple builds ofc. You may need inspiration for reflect and support, domination and duelling for personal dps etc. Same goes for the weapons. There’s always a situation for any weapon in our kitten nal.
What bugs me the most is the lack of space for mantra of pain. Not sure if it’s worth to take it. For solo ofc, but in a pt you probably even abandon harmonious mantras.

Yes I use this all the time in hotw when they struggle i simply go downed and bandage myself and be like a moving aoe heal skill
I asked myself when somone is gonna discover this, I noticed it about 1-2 days after release (july 23th patch) but first I tought it’s only underwater. Apparently not so it should be fixed please. Even tough, it’s funny to full heal anything in range while bandaging

For PvE even a scrapper still uses nades and needs the vuln and dmg on explosions. And noone with a sane mind will abandon the by far best damage modifier: modified ammunition.
Depends heavily on the situation. Condi dps and power dps won’t be changing at all imo. But for serious content and the jungle I think sinister or zerk, evt again an assassins mix will be more viable. Those are my humble guesses:

But nothing for sure. I first want to test the new gyros again. I believe some of them will be in my skillbar from time to time. Scrapper will probably swap utilities way more often than engi does right now. I’m excited to try new stuff and combinations. Let’s see what scrapper will give us…

My eyes didn’t betray me… – it’s a suggestion that won’t cause eye cancer when traited or not traited in chronomancer.
Classic strength might stack juggernaut with FT for open world is best with zerker armor.

Why not air? Didn’t it use to be a good option for day time dungeons? Actually wait, didn’t they nerf it sometime recently? That’s probably it.
It has never been a really good sigil. The only chance I beleve has been made is that it no longer can crit. But that’d be a veeeery old change.

Scepter is the single target ranged option, due the possibility of another offhand phantasm and it’s great spike / synergy with mop. With synergy I mean “yeaaaa you can interrupt your own auto attack with recharging mop!”. The design is fail but it’s better than the GS.
The GS is supposed to be the offensive ranged aoe option, wich it is not, since the aa just doesn’t quite fit.
