Dagger/dagger is actually really fun and mobile in PvE. I would suggest you go full DPS with fire and air. You can equip Tempest from the start since overloads are the main perk of it. AFAI remember, “Feel the Burn!” should be the 1st utility you unlock, and you may want that along with Cleansing Fire and Glyph of Storms.

I think its way too complex. Attacker/Defender roles will be troublesome with classes that heavily outranges other classes. Keep working on it, though, i like where it is headed.

The reason for the roles is to give things a small twist and make the dueling just teeny bit more interesting. With the roles, and how they function/interact with the maps, you gain the chance to use some tactics against your opponent. Like thieves assaulting the center platform from stealth, mesmers presetting up portal plays, DHs or rangers hiding a trapbomb into the defense area, necromancers summoning minions, etc..

I had an idea of how a 1v1 mode could work. So get this:

1. Each match has 10 rounds.
-Each round lasts for 3 mins.
-Winning a round(stomping your opponent within the time limit) will grant you 3 points.
-If your opponent is in downstate when the time ends, you gain 2 points but your opponent will gain 1 as well.
-If neither one is downed, you both gain 1 point.
-30 seconds of preparation before the round starts, timer goes off when both players have loaded into the map. If 2 minutes go by without 1 of the players loading, the game will be forfeit.

2. Maps
-would have a center point(not a cap point, just a platform) as well as 3-4 approaches/paths
-during preparation, both players are confined to a cell/cage which opens when the round starts
-players are given a role at the beginning of their 1st match as either the attacker or the defender
-the role of the 1st round will persist until the 5th round
-you will be assigned to the opposite role on rounds 6 to 10
(-if there are more than one 1v1 map, the map may change between rounds 5 and 6)
-attackers will start at the end of one of the paths
-defenders will begin from the center of the platform in the middle of the map
-if the attacker does 0 dmg on the defender before the time runs out, the game will consider this a forfeit, thus giving the defender 3 points, and the attacker gets 0.

3. Class rotation
-every round you will face a different class
-1st opponent is chosen randomly
-subsequent classes are chosen randomly based on the classes you have not yet faced
-10th round you will again face a random class

4. General rules
-get 5 silver/point gained
-getting 26 or more points will result in additional rewards, yet undecided but probably nothing too fancy
-between rounds you gain the option to either continue, or exit
-going to character creation or logging out will be considered as exiting
-exiting midmatch will be considered a forfeit

I think the AA is fine aside from the 3rd chain skill. I say get rid of the pitiful healing, and increase the damage by 30-50%.

Staff #2. Get rid of Punishing Sweep altogether and make Debilitating Slam the baseline skill. Add the Weakness from Punishing Sweep to it. Reduce damage by 20%.

Staff #4. Increase the baseline healing by 50% and reduce casting time to 3/4s. (I think it should be a stronger heal than shield 4 but not as strong as shield 5) Maybe increase energy cost from 15 to 20.

Staff #3 and #5 are fine as they are.

Vizier Khilbron could represent the destruction of Orr, even if he is still linked to Abaddon. Not many ppl seem to like him as a choice but I still think he is viable.

King Adelbern or Duke Barradin could’ve represented the Foefire. Unfortunately, before Rytlock decides to deal with the ghosts once and for all, that option isn’t available.

A mursaat character such as Optimus Caliph could represent the betrayal of the mursaat. That might be too long ago though.

axe is still a terrible weapon (dagger is superior because of the cleave and better boon rip and lf generation). Staff should be universal to almost all necromancer/reaper builds, it provides unblock able fears, chills, and condi transfers when easily traited.

I won’t say you are wrong but this kind of thinking is old fashioned. Staff was mandatory at some point but that was simply because of no equal options. For condi builds it still is mandatory but for power builds it’s not necessary. It’s a good pick but you can also go for axe/focus. It is a different style of play so it does need some time getting used to. Dropping staff also frees up a trait for which both options are good.

Axe may not have the cleave that dagger has but it also doesn’t require you to be in the middle of a 4v4 teamfight. And it can certainly out-damage staff on a single target.

PS. Landing a focus #5 is devastating on squishy classes like thief if they have 3 boons. So much fun. The closest comparison I can make is rev staff #5. Unreliable but deadly when it hits.
And @Sigmoid, thank you for the detailed explanation on the combo. Certainly much more comprehensive and in-depth than whatever I could have made. I never realized the synergy with Hydro sigils, I’ll have to try it out.

I think you only think about PvP, in both open and instanced PvE its an amasing skill and you can use it to take a fatel blow and still survive.

Instanced, yes I can imagine it being useful. For open world not so much. It’s completely useless for open world, aside from some niche situations.

It’s not the best, but I still kill some revenant, thief, ranger, warrior, plus i’m shure tokill all the necros i find on my way.
Also the auramancers get killed by my direct damage, easier than if I use conditions. (we used to kill eles with our direct damage years before HoT and we can still do that now).

(if you want you can use the Paladin Amulet instead of Demolisher)

Try my build. I did it for fun but I am able to kill people with that, when I was unable to do with a “meta” condi build. I fight expecially with the axe, swapping to dagger/horn when i need a CC, more LF and an immobilize to make the team kill easier an enemy.
Shouts make me able to survive against conditions and grant me defence (rise) and make me able to go through blocks, granting me a chance to kill guardians and revenants.

For LF generation I use the axe 2 plus Chilling Victory and Blighters Boon, that summed with Strength sigil and Spite minor traits make me able to build a lot of LF, making me not forced to use the staff (still if it’s a eventually good choice instead of the dagger/x)

That’s not for shure a top class build or the build of the year, but work fine, even in ranked.

I’ve been running basically this build for about a year now. You need to swap 2 things. Swap “Suffer!” for Plague Signet, and Death Perception for Foot in the Grave. And 2 on crit sigils on the same weapon set doesn’t work, go for Force on the Axe, and Energy on the dagger.

I use Paladin Ammy + Strength runes but I think that’s more a matter of taste, not a dealbreaker.

And? Movement skills are interrupted by wards.

but not inside it. Im assuming you are talking about the hammer ward because the staff ward is worthless.. Thief can just use bandits defense, maybe get in a knockdown, probably a steal, spam vault, shadowstep (which every thief uses at no cost to evades).

Only thing that can hold the thief is dragons maw and even then its not guaranteed because of bandits defense and shadowstep which the thief probably is using.

Am I missing something but I think only shadowstep will help the thief escape any circular ward? The only other way through a ward is stability. You can’t evade through a ward, and neither can you block. They will both be interrupted.

I know that u dont need special builds for open PVE, but playing solo on the HoT maps vs all those champions and veterans is not that possible, i testet all the Skillpoint enemys on the maps as solo guard with that build and it worked fine.

Maybe i am wrong but i think it is not that bad.

Really does look good for open world but I’m afraid it’ll fall short in raids. The DPS can’t possibly be high enough to compete with other classes, and you can’t tank without RF but without DM your CC isn’t good enough. In other words, it’s a good hybrid build between tanking and DPS, but for raids you really want to specialize in one or the other. Aaand there are better tanks than guardians, so you are mostly forced into a DPS role.

What stands out the most is your crit chance/precision. Even with Spotter, Food buffs and Fury, you stay at a bit over 60%. Which is too low. You would need to be at +85% with all the buffs. It has a huge impact on your damage potential and it affects Air Sigil procs significantly.

I would love to have celestial back on ele…but i would hate this game if Mesmer and Druid also had again celestial….

Cele Ele ranks as one of the most broken builds in PvP in recent history.

I personally think Cele Scrapper was even worse than Ele. But at the time, I had plenty of experience with ele whereas I had no idea on how to play or counter an engi.

Maybe there could be a PvE testing area in the Guild Halls? There’s plenty of empty space for it. And this way there would be a reason to go to the GH for something other than the nodes or arranged guild stuff.

I actually run P/P sometimes but I swap out SB instead of D/P. The basic meta build with a few changes, D/P and P/P. But I only play it on small and horizontal maps like Colosseum. With any verticality, SB is just too good to pass up.

Have you tried Strength Runes? They not only give you might, they also allow you to keep it up for long time periods. Axe is excellent for might generation, you may want to try it. Drop the staff, power builds don’t really benefit from it. It was only used before because there were no better options. Now there are.

SotL is not really useful if you run Wh. You don’t need a 100% uptime on the speed boosts. I’d rather go with Well of Corruption/“Suffer!”, depending on what you are facing.

Death Perception is less mandatory when you alrdy have +50% crit chance, I’d rather go with Foot in the Grave. You may also want to swap Signets of Suffering to Spiteful Spirit for more synergy with Blighter’s Boon.

Is it really a huge endeavor? People always assume adding a new weapon would imply adding 100 skins for it, but that’s not the case. They’ve been skipping underwater weapons in most of the newer weapon sets anyway, so there’s a clear precedent there.

I think it would be fine with 10-20 skins to start, and then they can keep revisiting old sets if they want to. The only real problem with new weapons are the new animations, but the new staff animations for revenant and daredevil cover it already pretty well.

I’m glad that atleast somebody agrees with me in this. It is not impossible, it’s not even that much work. They are only for ESpecs, no noobie/low-lvl weapons are even needed. They don’t even need to be craftable.

They release 18 new Black Lion weapons like every 3 weeks.

and even druid could use it.

That’s actually a bit funny since DRUIDS will never use it But maybe rangers will.

If you don’t know there are two teams – balance skill team as you said and pvp balance team and that one deal’s with amulet’s for example.

Post Balance Patch Analysis

Warrior – Nothing PvP important changed.
Guardian – Got some slight nerfs, but is still very viable.
Revenant – Rev is now weak against condis AND CC. Will probably drop out of ESL teams and top lvl play.
Thief – No major changes in regards to PvP. Maybe some niche build will emerge with the venom changes.
Ranger – Slightly nerfed, is actually pretty balanced now with the increased cooldowns in the top-pick abilities.
Engineer – Losing the gyro dazes was a big hit, and got absolutely nothing in return. May drop out of meta, but not sure on this one. Haven’t played it since patch so I’m relying on what I’ve heard.
Necromancer – Nothing much changed in regards to PvP. Power builds may return to low tiers of PvP.
Elementalist – The damage buffs were not enough to bring ele out of the Auramancer meta. Not much has changed.
Mesmer – No clue. This is a class I’ve never seriously played in PvP. Some fun combo’s might emerge with Mimic and CS if you play around with Chaos traits.

All 1v1s show is who has the most “saftey nets”/ what class is most outrageous in terms of sustain, but then again, that all goes back to the “safety nets” of a class. So please get the silly notion of 1v1s mean anything out your head, all it does is cause and illusion of thinking you/someone is good.

Also everything is unbalanced. But if they woullld actually do real balance, you think it would be around 1v1?

So pick your favorite sustain class, and go pick a fight with Sindrenerr or Lord Helseth, and we’ll see how that goes. Some video evidence would be nice as well. If you are being serious instead of just salty, back up your point with something to show instead of just flinging meaningless words around.

First, for the sake of build diversity, get rid of our total dependancy on Trickery to function effectively. I think this means giving us Preparedness baseline at the very minimum, because Anet clearly balances our Initiative costs around having that trait and so not having that extra initiative pool is very limiting. Less dependance on Trickery means we could fill that slot with SA or Acro for a solid defensive boost if we need to, and that means more diversity. Seems like a simple thing to do, so why not do it Anet?

To be fair, this is(generally speaking about trailines) not just a thief problem. Almost all classes have “mandatory” traitlines. Ele has absolutely no traitline-choices at all if they wanna PvP.

Basic ideas for E-spec: Scourge

Applied like this it would be ridiculously OP. Some issues could be corrected with relatively long ICD’s/CD’s but some are blatantly OP.

My biggest issue is the utilities:
Virulent Soil needs to be tuned down. Start with 1 condi at the base with less condis at the top, only 3 levels, reduce cd to 30s and remove the blind reliance. Also it doesn’t even sound like a survival skill.
Shifting Sands actually sounds good and true but the numbers need tweaking. Reduce evade-frame to 1s, increase cd to 25s and LF generation should only be 5-10%.
Dust Cloak looks good at 1st glance but I actually think the effects should be each others opposites. Block for 2s and upon blocking blind foes around you. And make the casting time 1/4 s. What’s the point of a block if it can be interrupted?

And remove that Blast Finisher from the shroud. It sounds silly. It might as well be a leap. Putrid Ground trait also needs toning down. You could make it only apply to fear. Sand Shards also needs to be thought out more. It either needs a substantial icd (+20s) or the max dmg needs to be a lot smaller(maybe around 300ish).

Also, please rethink the cones you got going in some places. They usually don’t work too well, so an area effect would be preferred.

my vote is Kormir the paragon, but they would have to make spears work on land though. Wouldn’t be a bad idea since underwater combat is bad…maybe they could make up some mumbo jumbo about revenants channeling the spirit of water on land or some crap. Paragons were a cool concept introduced with nightfall and ANet still owes us a paragon buff from GW1.

We kind of had this conversation earlier. Any of the human gods are kind of off limits.

But as a side note, would it be cool if they designed a legend around underwater combat? They could do it as an extra feature, since rev is currently stupid to play underwater.

The ‘more work’ and ‘may tick off other players’ argument has been used to justify giving elementalists a steady diet of offhands too. Yes, it is more skills, but it’s the way the profession is designed – elementalists and engineers pay for the extra skills by having other downsides.

I agree wholeheartedly. Those are not reasons, they are excuses. ANet is probably not afraid of work. Furthermore, HoT was not an example we want to look back on since they scrapped that all together in an amazingly short time. There’s a lot more time for the next expansion, so I think it’ll show in the product we eventually get.

A full DPS build on an ele takes a small measure of skill to play.

a. Don’t stand in AoEs. If you are casting a skill while targeted by an AoE, ditch the skill rather than taking the hit. Also don’t stay in places where you get hit/cleaved by enemies, you need to move around and position yourself so that you don’t get hit most of the time.
b. Learn to rotate your auras. Your auras = healing. Use them steadily, and try not to spam them. For emergencies use your proper healing skills.
c. Combo Finishers on water fields = healing. When taking heat, it’s better to drop your DPS by using water/earth rather than trying to stay in fire/air.
d. Change the build according to what you need. Optimal DPS can be/should be sacrificed for survivability. A dead toon is useless.

Nice, never thought of it in a Boon sort of way, that would make perfect sense and reward players for building the Vulnerability stacks (which takes a LONG time to do). So if the autos applied a stack of might and vulnerability per strike and we gained like 1% lifeforce per strike then that’d perfect the Axe in my opinion, I mean I can easily make do with how Axe 2 is right now and Axe 3 does flat out suck but, again, can be doable on a Power build (just use it right before engaging with melee), I think it was primarily the autos that made Axe such a bad weapon. I mean, sitting there just slowly building Vulnerability stacks? I can easily cap Vulnerability on my targets within a couple of seconds, so why should I sit back and just hold 1 for five minutes instead?

Great thinking, as it stands now I don’t think we have a weapon that grants us a Boon on our autos, and this would be a perfect ‘first timer’!

You ever tried Axe with Strength sigils + runes? It’s already set up in a way that grants tons of might when done right. So I think it would be better if it wasn’t might that it gave us but rather fury or something.

Why not? I don’t like that gadget trait, but it’s not like it’d give engi any more mobility than thief, druid, warrior already have. Druid staff 3 is 1200 range, heals at the end, and evades the whole time. Thief can cover like 5000 units of range in teleports, dodges, and blinks in a few seconds.

The least they could do is give engi (which only as 1 weapon, remember, so our skills slots are really valuable) evades and a stunbreak on a skill clearly designed for escape and pursuit. They need to make it a viable alternative to something like elixir gun.

Ele might be less clunky, but they have their own issues, so I wouldn’t go comparing them if I were you.

The problem with that is that you’re just writing weapon combinations. You need to think about the theme, and also the mechanics connected to it. In my amazon idea, it’s a swamp stalker, heavily inspired by wild tribes and jungle poisons, and with an in-lore connection to the hylek.

Just “guy with x weapon” doesn’t work. You need a context. Also, said theme/darkness won’t usually come from the weapon skills, but the mechanic and the utilities. Chronomancer theme doesn’t come from the shield, and druid theme doesn’t come from the staff. The weapon could change to pretty much anything, and the theme wouldn’t be affected.

Ofc you do have all that but that’s a very different conversation. Your argument was that Revenant can’t have Dark Archer themes(or that’s atleast what I was answering to) because the Rangers need it. You asked for 3 examples, and that’s what I gave you. If you want, I can expand on them but I’ll need from a few days to a week for that. I whipped that all up on the spot.

Let’s word it in another way: Give ideas for 3 new ranger elite specializations.

You’ll run out of themes soon, so you can’t just sacrifice “dark nature” for another profession without making sure ranger has enough themes to keep going.

Fine.
1st: Your own suggestion, the Amazon.
2nd: Stalker. MH dagger. Stealth. Borrows thief-mechanics but comes with it’s own flavor.
3rd: Warden. Shield. Defense that doesn’t rely on evading. Makes the ranger a frontliner, instead of the different forms of avoiding confrontation rangers currently have.
I’ll throw in a 4th one since I got the first one a bit easy: Istari Gamekeeper. Rifle. In the dangerous wilds of the Istari archipelago, carrying lighter ammunition could save your life.

You could say that ranger doesn’t even have space for a dark archer type spec. The archer’s weapons are already there, and they are not dark. You can’t go changing weapon skills around for specs either.

I think every profession (including the guardian) could get dark variations just fine.

I disagree. In truth, many of them could be given dark themes but that doesn’t mean they should. Guardian is on the top of that list. Dark themes would pretty much go against everything the guardian is. If you make a guardian dark, the end result is a revenant. That goes for warrior as well.

Not entirely true. You just have to adapt to a more mobile playstyle. The traits are almost exactly that of the support playstyle. What’s different is the gear, mostly. Maybe I wouldn’t go ranked but atleast it’s fun in unranked.

I think the Dark Archer archetype fits Revenants much better than it does Rangers. Just because Guardians are the knight type, you wouldn’t make them into the Dark Knight archetype, right? Any variants of dark themes belong to the Revenant and Necro, IMO.

Btw in my books Shiro isn’t special because of the stolen imperial powers or the Jade Wind, but because of his status as an Envoy.

I would like for Sand Shroud to work like Celestial Avatar, except the skills would be defensive. Invuln/evade, block, low DPS CC and stability access are just a few routes to go. You would still have your utilities available during it.

Utilities would patch up any defensive holes left over from SS. I want utilities+shroud to form a comprehensive defensive set when used. Classes don’t need weaknesses, but specking into defense would obviously hinder your DPS capability.

For torch I don’t have any expectations. It’s not what I wanted, and honestly don’t see anything for it that other classes haven’t already done. That doesn’t mean it’s something I won’t use when the situation calls for it.

One question. I don’t see you using Tempest in your videos. Why? It seems to be like it would completely complement your liking of Earth Shield? Earth Shield 3 (Lightning Rod) -> Earth Overload -> Swap to Air (Lightning bolt). Or simply Earth Shield 4 back into the AoEs?

Pyre led the Charr rebellion against the Shaman Caste system. They bound the entire race underneath world-destroying “gods” and prevented females from having any appreciable role in society (if you’re into that sort of thing). He’s the one that helped Charr become the atheist race they are today.

On this basis, we are equally likely to get Prince Rurik. Or King Adelbern. It’s like I said, he’s important but not exceptional.

Master Togo was Headmaster at Shing Jea Monastery. He negotiated peace treaties between the Tengu and Humans, ending the Tengu war, and twice negotiated peace between the Kurzicks and Luxons to help defeat Shiro. He had Imperial blood, and was finally enshrined in Tahnnakai Temple with the other historical heroes of Cantha.

I might come around with Togo though. I had forgotten the power of Canthan imperial blood. Thanks to @Huskyboy for reminding me of that.

If anything, we can agree Revenants aren’t short of options to revere.

I’m familiar with some of the techniques to land it, but in practical use, most of the gimmicks you have to use for it are already needed just to get to the point of lowering the health enough for the skill to be of actual use. The problem in my experience though is that the skill inherently fails on its delivery, 8 out of 10 times, even with these gimmicks.

My experience is totally opposite but mine is a PvP perspective. I don’t play thief outside PvP. And it lands 9/10 times. This skill already incredibly useful. Any changes to it must be for non-PvP.

Mind sharing your strategy?

It’s situational. D/P meta thief has 3 safe(-r) stomps. Pistol 5, Shadowstep and IS. Shadowstep is the best one, yet hardest to execute. IS/P5 are better to use when the enemy is alone, IS can be used if there’s 1 resser as well since it’ll delay rally too while stomping. I personally use Blinding Powder for stealth stomping too, which works in teamfights as well, usually Stealing/Shadow Shotting to the target beforehand. Guards/Scrappers won’t interrupt you if they don’t know you are there.

Hard to explain. It’s a gut feeling mostly.
