I’m familiar with some of the techniques to land it, but in practical use, most of the gimmicks you have to use for it are already needed just to get to the point of lowering the health enough for the skill to be of actual use. The problem in my experience though is that the skill inherently fails on its delivery, 8 out of 10 times, even with these gimmicks.

My experience is totally opposite but mine is a PvP perspective. I don’t play thief outside PvP. And it lands 9/10 times. This skill already incredibly useful. Any changes to it must be for non-PvP.

Is this a joke? Why only 4s tho? Should be 6s like sick em. I didnt tested it but im sure we cant even dodge it and its insta cast so there is no counterplay to it, as usual.
I suggest to give reveal to dragonhunters as well in the next patch. Or just give it to everyone. Its definetly well designed, anet. You are keep destroying our class and Im not even surprised.

And yet that skill is as crappy as ever. This is a non-issue. No self-respecting warrior uses shouts.

Players did missions with Jalis by their side in GW1. They were together about as much as Master Togo or the Heroes were in their required story sections.

I think the more important consideration is the niche each legend could fulfill which is where Togo and Pyre are the strongest right now.

You may be right on that one, my memories from the Prophecies campaign are hazy at best. I remember the Factions campaign more clearly. The thing is, King Jalis doesn’t fit the “exceptional mortal”-caste he’s usually thrown in. He invoked the Rite of the Great Dwarf, which puts him more on level with Mallyx/Glint than Ventari/Shiro. In that, he is kind of unique.

So while the legend channeled is personified by King Jalis, it is essentially in truth the entire dwarven race that is channeled by the revenant via the invoked Rite.

My thoughts are the opposite, the lore of that character must come first. The role played is secondary, but important as well. There is a plethora of smaller considerations as well. While Pyre and Togo are important characters, I don’t feel like they fit, or are exceptional in any way.

I would remove Facet of Nature from the other legends, and give each legend its own “facet-like” unique F2 skill.

For example:

  • Shiro could have the harbinger of the deceiver, his guild symbol, and pulse quickness to nearby allies, for -5. Consuming it would steal life from nearby enemies.
  • Mallyx some demonic symbols and pulse resistance, consuming it to create a Nightfall-like spell for -5, blinding enemies and rooting them in place.
  • Jalis could have some dwarven runes, and pulse stability for -3, knocking down nearby enemies on consumption.
  • Ventari could have some centaur markings, and pulse vigor for -1, consuming it to cleanse conditions from nearby allies.

These are completely OP. Especially the Shiro-channel.

As far as options, I wouldn’t mind seeing:

  • Master Togo
  • Pyre Fierceshot
  • Jora or Asgeir Dragonrender (the guy who punched Jormag’s Tooth out)
  • Vekk or Snaff
  • Riannoc or Trahearne

Personally I’ve steered clear of these ones because I don’t think most of them are likely. I think ANet are unlikely to add rev legends that have adventured with the players. But in the end it’s mostly personal preference, since I don’t see most of these as legendary figures.

So out of this list I only believe Asgeir, Snaff and Riannoc are plausible. Even out of those, only Asgeir fits the shoes of legendary status.

Urgoz and Pyre would fill the same niche btw.

Mhenzies… In one hand he’s a “nobody”, but in the other, he could be expanded, getting some unique fire spells. But then, a Flame Legion spec would probably be better, because cauldrons and Searing.

Dhuum is just a necromancer, and anything you think about him would be better spent on actual necromancer elite specializations.

I’m sorry but you are wrong on these 2.

Mhenzies is Balthazar’s twin brother, and equally powerful. The whole reason for PvP in GW1 was to aid Balthazar’s celestial conflict against Mhenzies. The favor of those fighting for Balthazar was turned into a sort of divine energy he fed on to defeat Mhenzies once and for all.

Dhuum on the other hand was the god of death before Grenth was. Grenth and his reapers took Dhuum’s power in a struggle that left Grenth alone among the living. This event can be equated to Kormir taking Abaddon’s power.
So no, Dhuum was not just a necromancer. He was THE necromancer if there ever was one. You could compare him to Sauron.

But the thing is with these 2 that they would be difficult to justify for the exact same reasons as the human gods. I’ll grant it’s not worship, or faith, so a charr revenant wouldn’t need to have that faith, instead just utilizing their power.

Actually a charr revenant would be more likely to use the powers of these 2 than a human revenant. A human would feel like he’s betraying the gods.

Lastly, I really don’t think these 2 very likely. It’s just fun to speculate. My money is wholly on Urgoz.

Urgoz or Kanaxai: Like Zhu Hanuku don’t have many unique skills of their own to draw from unfortunately, but have lore that could serve as fodder.

In my mind, Kanaxai is too close to Mallyx, both being basically demonic. Also, his minions, the Oni, were assassin demons, and that comes too close to Shiro as well.

Urgoz on the other hand would be an excellent choice. You can directly compare Urgoz to the Pale Tree. The Pale Tree, in turn, would be a legendary character if she weren’t still alive. A dragon lieutenant failed to kill her. And those comparisons can be applied to Urgoz, since their nature is similar if not exactly the same.

Furthermore, even if Urgoz doesn’t have many unique skills, he does have a few that could easily be made into revenant skills. And the rest can be taken from his followers, the Wardens. Throw in a shortbow with condi skills, and we finally get something to use Mallyx with. In concept art Urgoz is depicted using a bow.

Other characters I would like to input for consideration would be:
-Rodgort
-Mhenzies
-Dhuum
-Gwen (okay, we can forget that, she’s more nostalgic than legendary)

If the idea is to maximize the amount of condis, why not use D/D? It applies more burns and the cooldowns are a lot shorter, and burning doesn’t really suffer in PvE, since mobs rarely have cleanses. With D/D, it’s no big deal to stack 20 burning on a foe.

So, there has to be a secondary reason, which I’m not seeing.

It could start off as a mid range weapon with decent dps, but the 5 skill could root the thief in place. The skills would change to much longer range, slower, yet more powerful shots.

That actually doesn’t sound like a bad idea. But it would be a balancing nightmare, trying to balance what is essentially 9 skills on a single weapon set.

I really don’t want to use greatsword so i’ll stick to axe/focus since i’ve been testing staff and it looks like a weaker version of shroud (open world wise) i don’t use power in pvp. Thanks for the insight.

I would advise you to seriously re-consider Greatsword for PvE. It delivers absolutely massive hits. Most targets are dead after you hit 4, 3, 2.

But those are your options, truly. Dagger, axe, focus, Wh and GS. OH dagger is condi, scepter is condi, staff is for utility but I think it’s absolutely worthless in PvE.

Enchanted Daggers is not a healing skill, it’s a DPS increase. Use them as soon as you enter Assassin Stance, not when you are about to die.

But seriously, there is good and bad in this, thank you for sharing. The RtL change would be really good, 40s (32s with trait) cd is way too long considering what other classes have. Now that they normalized eles cooldown reductions, this could happen as well.

I don’t, however, agree with the Mistform changes. Mistform is fine, even if the cd is a bit too long. Renewed Focus on guard has a 90s cd, but Mistform has half its functionality. Thus, Mistform’s cd should be half of that, 45 seconds.

Elite specs, as defined by Anet, are supposed to change the way the core class plays, not replace it. It is entirely expected that changing the way the class plays will make the elite spec better at some things than core, but tempest does not do this. Tempest is the same elementalist we’ve been playing since launch, but with a heaping serve of power creep.

My tempest plays differently than my vanilla Ele. My Tempest does this thing where she charges at enemies while tirling or riding a rock or something, and then all the enemies nearby take damage and stuff, and then it leaves a sort of “tempest” at that location. My vanilla Ele never did that sort of thing. Feels different to me.

Yes, it does more and differently, these things don’t rule each other out.

I thoroughly enjoyed this multi-sided boxing match I’ve seen in this thread. I think there are valid points on both sides, even if some arguments are bull-headedly disqualified without giving proper explanations. Nobody’s assertion is an absolute law, even if the conclusion seems logical. Magic defies logic. Make of that what you will.

I’m with Ohoni on the fact that ESpecs should be level to each other but a slight improvement on the base class. Because that’s what is going to happen. Core classes will never reach the same potential ESpecs do.

I don’t care what ANet have stated in the past, they were idiots not to think ESpecs would bring powercreep, and I don’t hold them to that promise because they never should’ve said that in the first place, without seeing the outcome 1st. The very moment they announced ESpecs, I knew powercreep was going to happen. Regardless of what they said.

What are you talking about, Yannir? I followed HoT’s development and leaks to the community, and of those three you mentioned, the only one that’s correct is “ele with sword”. DH was even clearly set up to use the bow from early art that came out of Braham using Eir’s bow long before the Dragon Hunter was revealed.

I may be wrong on those, I listed things based on what I’ve heard. I didn’t actually play the game during development, and only returned to it during the 1st Beta weekend.

But don’t get caught up on the details, that wasn’t the idea behind that post. It’s hardly relevant whether what I said is true or not. But just to clarify, those are just things I heard somewhere. Can’t even point out the source.

Funny, lately I’ve been thinking about a Shadowmancer spec like this too.

My only problem(it may be a big problem) with this suggestion is that it’s a bit all over the place. It tries to fill the niches for support, DPS and defense all at the same time. It’s alright to push a few defensive skills into a DPS package for example but I can’t see a clear direction in this one.

Keep in mind that these leaks may be drastically different to what we actually and eventually get. The same thing happened with HoT. DH was supposed to have a rifle, ele was to get a sword, druid was supposed to be something totally different, etc..

For all we know, everything leaked is already old information.

I would like a rifle thief but honestly, I would more like to see something related to shadow magic. A focus, maybe some kind of shadow consecrations, shadowform..

Every one of the current legends certainly is.

You can find the answer to that on a old lore post on the main page about revenants the is requirement was said to be “Leaving strong impressions on the mists” (Can’t remember the exact wording) . Also you are commiting this logical fallacy.

Even if it’s not explicitly said, doesn’t mean it’s not true. Old blog posts also mention the legends come from Tyrian history. Which implies past, and furthermore, that the said legends have passed on to the Mists. The Mists is essentially the Tyrian equivalent for an afterlife, among other things.

Please make thief press more buttons than just auto attacking for max dps/. ele need to press 1 million buttons no lag just to match theif dps who is only press 1 button.. no fair.

if thief not checked . making and abusing this easy mode class to press only 1 button for most dps int he entire game.

You try playing thief in PvP and see how easy-mode it is. You can’t ask for this change simply based on raid DPS. Besides, I think the highest thief DPS comes from keeping up Lead Attacks, which requires you to spend Initiative. That means they need to use more than AA’s.

Edit: I made an assumption and not sure if it’s correct but calling thief easy-mode is in any case wrong.

LB is actually better than Sc when you open world or do large metas, because it has better multi-target pressure than Sc. It pretty much depends on what you do. Guardians now have weapons for almost every situation.

Soothing Bastion, Shield, and Stun Breaks

For those interested
Staff 5 had a range of 1200 and did 50% more damage (i think more, it was nerfed twice over 2 patches)
Phase traversal had no cooldown cost 20 energy
Riposting shadows gave 50 endurance
Precision strike had a 5 sec cooldown
Unrelenting assault hit 7 times
You could get about 20 might stacks with glint and nature facet, easy 25 with unrelenting.
Retribution stab on dodge had no cooldown
Sword had a projectile on its auto and did a lot more damage
Quickness affected finishing
Both sword block and staff block had a 10 sec cooldown.

-Staff #5 is still probably the strongest weapon skill in the game if you hit. There’s no other skill that can outright one-shot any thief you come along.
-The cooldown on Phase Traversal is deserved. You are still able to catch anything.
-Precision Strike still has kitten cd. Just it’s 1s longer for pvp.
-Quickness not affecting finishes is a good thing.
-A projectile attack on an AA is not a good thing.
-Blocking for 4s every 10s was too much blocks anyway.
-You can still get 14 might with Glint+Facet of Nature, which is plenty.

On topic, I would like for them to atleast add the stunbreak into the trait if not on the shield skill itself. But indeed, doing just that would make Ventari, Mallyx and even Jalis more viable. As long as they don’t start overbuffing the already strong aspects of the class too much, this could be a good change. But in return they would have to make the block shorter(but not affect the healing) and maybe slightly increase the cd.

Constant Might generation will regen LF/Hp via Blighter’s Boon, Foot In The Grave will be your main stunbreak, there are ways to deal with pretty much anything in this build. PS. The well is only to be used on downed ppl for stomping/ressing. And the Spite master trait is up for debate, I’ve tried all 3 of them.

What it does lack is clear dmg spikes while out of shroud, it is more of a pressure build. Great at 1v1 situations but lacks punch in teamfights. The only 1v1’s you lose is against good thieves because they really have few boons to corrupt, and your sustain can’t keep up with thief DPS. Not to mention they can just shrug off that chill.

Why is DH not competitive at esl level?

After the expansion the Guardian has 0 use as bunker, and his best build (meditrapper DH) is a dps one. And guess what: is far from being the best at that role.

Now this makes a certain amount of sense to me. Which suggests what we might have more luck agitating for a return of the relevance of the Guardian Bunker. With the hope that if the base profession is healthy, the variants like DH become more sound too. Less “oh we needz moar DPS” and more “We needs better sustain in the new Wild West shootout environment.”

Which again makes perfect sense when you have a low health-pool, innate regen class. The shorter time to kill gets for everybody, the less that regen mechanic gets to contribute and regen classes (any regen class) spirals down faster than its peers.

Sure we had bunker guard in meta for a time but dps zerker medi lasted for quite a while.

I absolutely agree that DH was the initial “support” class but evolution was around the corner and changes were inevitable. We’re no longer that class type but a “Guard” slash “hunter” instead (in spite heavy criticism for each).

That its just not true, looking at your build Warrior,Good Revs, Mediocres Druids and ANY Condi mesmers will wreck this build in 1v1

That’s just not true. Condi warrior is probably the easiest duel to win with this build. Corrupt their resi/stab, and they are as good as dead. You can also fling every one of their condis back to them. You can easily stack 25 might, which means you are also sitting on 750 condi damage. The further the fight goes on, the bigger your advantage is.

Same goes for the mesmers, unless they really are good. Like Lord Helseth level of good. But a good mesmer is a god, so I would say that’s true for any situation you can think of. On the other hand, a bad mesmer is even more useless than a bad thief.

That said, I may have oversold it anyway. DH, good thieves, power warriors and revenants can indeed counter it since it is weak to bursts, especially when you are low on LF. Shroud is basically your only defensive cooldown against burst. Given the prevalence of DH in the current meta, you may wanna stick to condi-builds. Just saying power isn’t nearly as bad as people make it out to be.

Not only Necro but every profession in the game: Lower cooldowns significantly on every weapon (AND utility) skill then remove -cd TRAITS and add traits that are more FUN, remove signet passives and add an account-bound passive system (something like Planar Attunement in Rift). I love how “modern” the Revenant is, low cooldowns and no silly -cd traits, we need a full profession revamp in GW2.

The reason why revenants have low cds is that they also have energy. You also can’t remove signet passives, because that’s how signets work. If you remove the passives, they are no longer signets. They are just… well, skills.

Should I avoid 1v1?cuz its very hard to take down a tanky class like engi,specially when it is a class that applies tons of conditions.

Thieves should be your easiest kills, since you barely NEED to land anything. The thing is you need to react fast if you are jumped on by a thief. If you let them, they will drop your health very fast.

So, when attacked by a thief:
-Immediately block them. Staff #3 or Shield #5. They will waste one or two attacks on it.
-If you are in Glint and have your upkeeps on, drop them all into your location, then swap to Shiro.
-If they are a staff-thief/Bounding Dodger, dodge backwards, wait for their dodge/vault to land in front of you, then use Surge of the Mists(staff #5). There’s a fairly good window between these attacks which you need to hit. If you hit squarely, this fight is done.
-If you miss SotM, or they are another kind of thief, use Enchanted Daggers(Shiro #6) + Unrelenting Assault(Sword #3). 2 hits should be enough to drop them below 50% hp which will cause them to either leave or try to reset.
-Don’t let them do that, if you are still 1v1. Follow with Riposting Shadows if they shadowstep away, then Precision Strike/AA them to death. Sword is preferred here. Use Unrelenting Assault when off cd.

Revenant’s role in pvp? DPS, CC and avoiding damage. Your heals are not good, so when you can, avoid taking damage in the first place. Enchanted Daggers shouldn’t even be classified as a heal, it’s a DPS boost. Healing from your shield is also more reliable than healing from Glint. Glint heal should be reserved for when you have a ton of condis/you are sitting in DH traps.
SotM combos well with you CC, try to use it when you can guarantee a solid hit, like after using either of your elites.
Preventing enemy stomps/resses with said elites/SotM is also a good tactic.

Because LB does not make a DH. It’s the improved Virtues that make DH miles better than the base guardian, as well as the DH traits. How well does Shield of Courage synergize with Hunter’s Fortification?

Traps bring interrupts, and Spear of Justice brings inherent CC. DH just synergizes so well with base guardian.

Necromancer has plenty of sustain if you trait for it. Constant Might generation will regen LF/Hp via Blighter’s Boon, Foot In The Grave will be your main stunbreak, there are ways to deal with pretty much anything in this build. PS. The well is only to be used on downed ppl for stomping/ressing. And the Spite master trait is up for debate, I’ve tried all 3 of them.

What it does lack is clear dmg spikes while out of shroud, it is more of a pressure build. Great at 1v1 situations but lacks punch in teamfights. The only 1v1’s you lose is against good thieves because they really have few boons to corrupt, and your sustain can’t keep up with thief DPS. Not to mention they can just shrug off that chill.

But on a different note, I’d love to see Axe revamped as a melee condition weapon. Give it small duration burns on auto with maybe a different condi on final auto hit, so its not pure power creepy burn. Maybe a small leap (gasp… a necro leap) with blast finisher and another damaging condition, similar to Revenant mace #3. Then maybe a short chill field on #3.

I would move in a totally different direction. I don’t want to see axe become just another condi weapon. We have enough of those, and besides, axe is our only ranged power weapon.

I would like to see axe go 1200 range and rework the AA to hit only once with a slight damage drop overall while still doing 2 vulns/auto. The animation sucks too, and it could be reworked. Lastly, I would like to see #3 skill become a blast finisher.

About Marks in general, I think you could justify putting marks into all MH weapons just like symbols are on guardians. But not on OH weapons like focus/warhorn/dagger.

The only time I haven’t been able to kill one of these classes is when I was playing one of them myself. I remember playing symbolic guard against an engi. That duel took place in the far point, and it lasted more than 5 minutes. Neither of us got anywhere. I couldn’t pin the engi down in my symbols, and the engi had no way of interrupting my heals.

During Taimi’s Game, the lava pools the destroyers leave behind have an enemy tooltip text above them that says Destroyer Crab. I’m pretty sure it’s unintentional, and it is somewhat confusing, making it harder to pinpoint the remaining enemies you have. Additionally, those lava pools last way too long, and persist after the game is finished. For me they blocked the teleport pad back to the lab, annoyingly delaying the continuation of the instance.

Also, in Ember Bay, some players appear to be enemies. You can’t attack them or anything but their names+all the other text is sometimes red, like in WvW or PvP.

Didn’t think to take screenshots but I’ll take them should I run into these again.

10v10 GvG would be awesome. I’ve advocated for this as well. GvG was my favorite form of PvP in GW1. Ofc I did AB more because it was more casual.

we have 8 classes, so i would prefer 8 vs 8, but since boons are 5 man party limit ic where those 10 come, still would be a good number, and if the gamemode is an adaptation of the old gvg scene the better.

What you are describing fits the revenant perfectly but thief will do while you don’t have HoT. In GW2 thieves are more gankers and backstabbers with superior mobility, and revenant is more of the combat rogue type you are describing. The closest thematic equivalent of revenant in WoW would be death knight, although the source of their powers is vastly different.

Despite Supreme’s endless negativity, ele is a good choice as well. Just don’t expect to PvP with a DPS build in the near future. We’ll probably be waiting on the next expansion for that to happen.

Please note they did not manage to even introduce the new map properly. In WTS top players were set at the tables (in random order) to try the new map, then they set up 2 breaks of a about 7 minutes each to prepare for fight, and then out of nowhere they announced the trial will no longer take place because of technical difficulties in servers. And all that in a pre-announced and prepared official PVP streaming, with top players at the table, 2 days before official map release.

Now… let’s see the hype. Do you really think it will be that awesome?!

I don’t see a huge problem with this. It wasn’t the map that was broken but ANet’s build of it. That could just mean that it didn’t work because it wasn’t in the game where it was designed to be used. ANet’s private servers are not the game servers. It’s probably just that restrictions in the game servers have alrdy been incorporated into the map, which makes it harder to run in ANet’s own servers because of clashing issues with the relatively larger freedom in ANet’s servers.

Take that with a grain of salt, but the gist of it is that I’m not particularly worried about it not working in the showcase.

AA lose because they have a thief, last championship their opponent said the same thing during interview, that they just ignore the thief decapping and wipe them 5v4. they never learn i guess.

I don’t think that was really the issue, Toker was doing a great job. You gotta remember that AA actually wiped Vermilion in 1 of those 5v4’s, and weren’t doing too bad in team fights in general.

My expertise is lacking with this level of organization, since I mainly solo or duo-Q but it seems to me AA didn’t rotate well enough, and failed to take advantage of their enemy’s mistakes. On Temple, it was a clear mistake leaving Chaith to deal with Kervv since it resulted in a stalemate that left Nas open to the others of the enemy team. I think that decision cost them the map. Sad as it is, it seems engis job is to babysit the necros in this meta.

{Idea} Elite Spec: The Vanguard

I’m with Rodzynald and RabbitUp. As a concept I love this idea, but practically speaking you’ve gone too far.

-Taking away weapon swap unnecessarily limits this spec, although the idea probably wouldn’t really work with a weapon swap
-Completely changing the virtues makes the Virtues traitline obsolete, and frankly, all other traits that affect the passive virtues. This further limits the spec.
-That #3 weapon skill is too complicated and limiting. Flip skills are fine, but 2 flip skills? Too much. Even if we take that DD Elite skill which has 3 parts, they don’t have requirements, just a target limit of 1.
-I didn’t find a single block skill in all that. Guardians are kinda reliant on that with their low base health, and as this spec doesn’t offer much in the way of healing either…

+Halberd is cool! I want one. ^^ And unlike some people, I do believe that new weapons are bound to end up in the game at some point.
+"Holy Fire" as a resource is a nice touch. It does sound more like an energy bar than an adrenaline bar but that’s irrelevant mostly.
+This ended up having only a few actual positive sides, but I still like it in general.

And I’m sorry but your naming of skills kinda sucks. But that’s just a personal opinion. But really swinging as AA? I don’t want to play golf…

Elite Specializations.

  • Mechanics Stack on top of vanilla mechanics, like a tumor.
  • Over powered trait lines that often negate entire trait lines form the core mechanics
  • Anything done to improve vanilla mechanics will only make elite specs more powerful.
  • gate utility skills behind the trait line, for no good reason.
  • gate the weapon behind the trait line, for no good reason.
  • Were created solely to force players to pay for heart of thorns, instead of giving the players actually good content.

What do you think they were supposed to do? I can’t believe this whining is still a thing. This is always what happens with expansions, you should’ve seen it from the get-go. And GW2 was always going to have expansions even if the devs didn’t see it at the start. Expansions are PR first and foremost to keep the game in the public eye. Continued updates can’t do that.

Expansions are also supposed to bring progression. Since the devs hold on to the idea that we won’t have vertical progression via levels, we have to have some horizontal progression via “widening” the classes we already have. The flexibility alone that it brings is powercreep by itself. It’s just not blatantly obvious by pointing out that the other guy has a bigger number than you do.

Edit: Just corrected vertical and horizontal the other way around. Got mixed, english isn’t my native language.
