So just scream AMUSE ME! in forums and everything will work out well. You are the one that chose your own path on this.

I just want to share that the current state of the game highly discourages alt play, as I currently estimate it will take the better half of 2013 to finish gearing my main.

I don’t play enough to warrant joining a large guild, so the only path to much of the ascended gear is via the laurel system (why should I benefit from the work of people who play daily several hours when I only play guildwars at most an hour a day?).

Even if I could find time to level my alts (when I log in, I end up using all my time on daily and monthly activity) once they are max level, it would take another half a year to gear them.

Just wanted to get that off my chest, thanks.

You only need to kill one target not finish the guild quest to get the tokens.

they probably also partecipated guild missions

Not really. And even if he was ikittenerg guild, how will a level 20 player participate in a guild mission that sends him into Frostgorge Sound or Fireheart Rise ?

Edit: wth, since when is the three letters N A and Z censored and for what reason? XD

The question is WHY would a level 20 character be concern about Level 80 gear?

BTW I don’t agree with ARenanet stance on forcing players to join guilds to get gear, I wish the was another method to get rings, because I certainly WONT ever ever join a guild. Guilds change the way, I play games and I don’t want to be bound by anybody other than myself. And I wish I could craft them even if they require a lot of work or reasonable work.

For the 50th time, you are NOT forced to join guilds to get those items because you have the option to get those SAME items from the laurel vendor for laurels/ectos.

Sure, but there is certainly a STRONG incentive to do so. For each piece of ascended gear there is one way of getting it that is much more efficient than the alternative methods.

You have no evidence to suggest that it’s more efficient to do it via the guild route.

Even if that is the case, the fact stands that you have an alternate way to obtain these items which means you aren’t “forced to join guilds to obtain these gear”.

Which I acknowledge first by saying “sure.” I’m not in a large guild, so I can’t speak to how hard it is to complete the guild missions. I know (from the wiki) that you can earn 2 guild commendations / type / week -> so up to 10 / week. But even if it’s 2 per week, you can get an earring in 42 days for 5 gold.

Running dailies it will take 45 days + 12g in ectos.

That’s if you show up for every single guild event on time and succeed. Far harder than simply just doing dailies which you can choose to finish on your own time.

Actually one of the few times I was in WvW I ran into a mesmer and they really did not like my axes when we got up close and personal.

You have 5 slots to experiment with. I personally really like ranger but then I don’t have any pre-concieved notions about what it should be like never having played one before. For me the trip really fleshes out what you know about the various classes. If you power-level using crafting or only pvp you may miss out some tricks or abilities since you have not used the class much.
If you do want to see how they behave at max without going through the PVE environment take a starter toon to the mists and play with the setups. You can use the various target in the waiting area or join a pug sPVP group. WvW does not really give a good indication of the benefits or drawbacks of a class since you are mostly surrounded by lots of others and your contribution gets lost in the noise.
Bottom line is if you like it play it.

There is one area in Timberline falls, where there is a cave with grawl. Inside the cave is a skill point. Try taking all of the grawl out before they respawn, I could not get in the cave without help.

This is an interesting one. Have done it both solo and in a group, a group is the best option. Solo you need to use both slow grind kill everything and also run past leash of mobs. If you kill slowly until you are within a short distance of skill point, run past this enough so some of the mobs drop off, then work back you can take it. You can also try running past everything from the start but this usually winds up with you dead.

Frankly getting in over my head is how I learn the game. I have no problem with a character dying. To me that is part of the game, next time I don’t die. Something else will kill me but that as I said is the enjoyable part of game. The cost to repair is not huge, the loot you will get is not good but enough for the few silver no matter what level you are. I run greens in Orr since that is the set I put the most Magic Find on. Did not have a huge problem before the fix and don’t have a huge problem now. Do I still die there? Yes. Does it impact my enjoyment? No.

They would more than make up for any loss of transmutation stones with outfits sold. If they actually had outfits to sell.

Outfit/appearance management inspired from LoTRO would do very well in this game.

I’m a fan of showing off my lootz but I prefer to AFK in my hobo-set, plus it would put a nice touch on any PvP – gear illusions lol.

I completely agree that the Lotro system of separating appearance from stats is awesome. However, that would do away with the need for transmutation stones, which gets ANET extra money from the gem shop.

I have done all three orders, After that I only choose whisperers. The Vigil are just not what I am interested in, their main helper is not what I find interesting or memorable. The Priory I really liked the helper but the overall feeling of the group was not great. The Whisperers I seem to come across a lot in game and while the ‘know the unknowable’ bit is lame they have some neat stuff hidden away.

The story gets more serious as you advance, and some orders are clearly intended to have more serious story arcs than others, unfortunately it is almost impossible to tell what is going to be what at the moment of choosing a path, In my first character I chose the Order of Whispers because I assumed (wrongly as it turned out) that it was going to be a story arc with intrigue, betrayal and maybe even “making though choices” as agent Ihan claims, instead I got the silliest story in the game with Disney secret agent Tybalt guiding me from goofy adventure to goofy adventure.
For my second character I chose vigil and there I found a story that takes itself seriously with a more realistic mentor and was much more happy with the results.

The same is true of the other personal stories, again with the same caveat that it is near impossible to anticipate what will be more serious story wise.

You still get rid of the summons when you kill the summoner but if you lose target you could wind up getting several spawns until the main one goes down. The brutes and abominations seem to be unaffected by the changes though.

Hmmm, reading your original post a few times, just got to say you may not be able to get what you want here in GW2. I’m also . . . fairly certain you won’t find it at the Elder Scrolls game. What you’re describing sounds a lot less like one of the MMOs on the market (by necessity of needing to be certain things to please a broad audience) and more like a place to have fun in.

There’s nothing wrong with it, it’s just likely the game you want won’t ever materialize 100% of the way you want it to. Maybe even 50%.

I wonder if there’s a market for a MUD again . . .

You don’t want a PvE map, you don’t want WvW because it has too many people in groups. You want to create a PvP map out of all the PvE maps. Why do you think they created WvW? If it is not pvp enough there are games like Rift, Alloids, WoW so no lack of choice. Since as has been posted these shards are hugely popular there will be no problems for you to find the competition you desire. You can also /sigh in chat all you want and get lots of attention.

Guild Missions [merged]

Yargesh.4965

The problem I have with this is that the focus is Art of War. If you devs had made any tier 5 the start I don’t think there would be as much backlash. By that I mean you must have tier 5 of any branch does not matter which and once it is done it is done. People put in resouces to what they feel is important. This update tells people that the only important aspect of the game is WvW (which is the only use of Art of War). You say eventually… well great but ‘if wishes where horses, beggar would ride’ comes to mind. We are planning something, we think something just gets stale until it is actually placed in the game.

I know there have been some concerns about Guild Bounties being in the Art of War line. Our goal with this system is to give guilds activities and long-term progression that they can accomplish by working together as a guild. These missions are meant to be difficult and challenging to not only unlock, but to accomplish.

We would also like to make every guild upgrade line valuable to every guild. Currently, Art of War is very focused on PvP and WvW, but our plan is to continue to add more guild upgrades in the Art of War line to accomplish this. These Guild Missions are the first step. Along with this system, we also added a number of new guild upgrades that guilds can earn.

In the end, our goal for all of this content is to give guilds new goals and challenges to accomplished once they have researched deeply into each line, as well as require guilds to have researched multiple lines to unlock some upgrades. We expect guild members to have to work together as a guild to earn the influence needed to unlock these new missions, as well as overcome the challenge of the missions themselves.

In the future, we plan to continue to add more guild upgrades, as well as continue to add challenging guild missions, as we don’t want guilds to run out of goals and accomplishments they can achieve.

Art of War? Most MMO’s have about 10-20% of their player base focused on PvP and you put out the first content directed towards the majority of players as requiring the guild to have planned for PvP? Why do you think the majority of your player base loves PvP? If you as a company have numbers that back this up, great. I just personally don’t believe it to be so.

take a bow shoot something once, take an axe hit something once. Why does the axe do more damage? You can hit more often. With magic guns and bows you can hit as often as with an axe/sword. Damage over time should be the same.

a ranger with a bow should NOT do the same damage as a warrior in melee, as simple.

melee damage >> range damage

Set up the run with your guild and keep it a secret from the rest of the player base. If only damage dealing guild mates are there you have no problem. If some condition damage toons show up make condecending comments and then run away to find another empty zone to do events in.

I was not thinking they would stand around doing nothing, just that they won’t be able to keep up with the full exotic-bounty hunters who initiated the event in the first place. One example would be that they bring condition builds, which makes them do effectively zero damage while still ramping up the scaling. This could effectively lead to them only extending the time it takes to kill the mob.

Normally, that isn’t much of a problem, but if the timers are supposed to be challenging, it could be.
