The races of GW2 -- Elves, dummies!

The wylde hunt in european myth is when elves transformed some poor guy into a buck and hunted them down. The only way usually to save them is for their wife/girlfriend to sleep with the lead elf. Really pleasant story.

Are people so blind…

Sylvari = Guildwars 2 Elves

Pointy ears – Check
Slender Appearance – Check
Tree hugging plant lovers – Check

Sylvari = Good Elves
Nightmare Court = Drow/Dark Elves

Just because they are ugly as sin and are vegetables doesn’t hide the fact that they are still Elves…

OK, so what’s the elven counterpart to the Dream? The Pale Tree? Ronan and Ventari? The Wyld Hunt? The sylvari are Arthurian-inspired, what’s Arthurian about elves?

And, frankly, my sylvari are better looking than almost all of my other alts, save the asuran with the hair buns.

I am very very aware of what dyslexia is. That is not what I was talking about. I just have a thing about people being incoherent and then being proud about it.

I am 48 and I must agree with Gundam Zephyr. Why be proud of being sloppy? Yes it takes time and I am the last to complain about peoples writing skills but ill thought out and poorly written does not make me want to take the effort to figure out what it is you (not directed at anyone specifically) are getting at. Time away from school is no more an excuse that someone in school making what is basically the same point.

I’m reading a lot of poorly written posts by so-called ‘40 and 50 year olds.’ Did you people actually go to school? I was under the impression the public school system is getting worse, not better, as time goes on.

As for the topic itself, I love the SAB. I’m quite a fan of exploring and platforming. Prince of Persia: Sands of Time and Super Mario 64 are two of my favorite games ever. SAB appeals to players like me, who enjoy doing things in-game that don’t necessarily get us better loot or achieve specific ‘hardcore’ goals. It’s just a way to blow off steam and enjoy a little bit of what made games like Super Mario 64 so iconic in their hay day.

P.S. I’m 25.

The longer it’s been since you’ve been to school, the less you remember about things like grammar, and sentence structure. People who don’t use the written word often will often not be better at it than people who use it frequently. How about a bit of tolerance?

The way schools teach has indeed changed quite a bit. There are, from my point of view anyway, huge omissions in the current day curriculum. Calling people out for not typing or speaking well, it’s just not cool. Not to mention for many people, English might not even be a first language.

And I just make a lot of typos because I make a lot of posts and don’t want to spend the time constantly rereading them.

What about people who aren’t as educated, people who aren’t as smart, people who don’t speak English as a primary language. What about people who suffer from insomnia and have trouble concentrating.

Tolerance doesn’t mean I’m tolerating someone being “sloppy”. I don’t know anyone’s personal situation here. Maybe they’re on prescription meds and it affects their ability to focus…who knows.

A bit of tolerance goes a long way.

English isn’t my first language and I often miss out words due to dyslexia or type sentences as I would speak them irl.

People forget things like that.

What's with this ''kitten'' abuse word usage?

Mesmer has to me the best overall feeling of any class. Not overpowered but very good selection of weapons (there are none that I think are very poorly designed). Downed state I am up with mesmer more often than my other classes (lvl 80 hunter, guard, ele and mesmer). Underwater it is a tie between hunter and mesmer which is the better in my opinion. Groups of mobs are fun if you have greatsword, dodge creating illusions and shatter damage/confusion when illusions die. Speed would be nice but no a huge problem.

No one said it was free, it is just unlimited storage.

People who have lots of money use the TP. There is no limit to what you can put in, just put at a price no one will pay. I am sure that there are people with tens of thousands of items that are stored this way.

This. It’s a ridiculous restriction. The trick is to list your stuff at a high, but not ridiculously high, price. You win either way.

But it’s not free! You spend 5% of whatever price just for storage? :|

I agree with the OP. I just don’t think any game anywhere can do any better. The longest I have stuck with a game is 2 years. Those where games that had been out for several years and had several additions to content and a stable population. A-Net seems to be running from side to side in a small boat, creating waves but not really getting anywhere. I will keep playing the game, just no as much as before I had 4 level 80s which to me is completely natural.

Such a needless restriction. awe-well.

Both you and gemmethegepgun are right.

He’s right on the fact that you can just use your bank, and you are right that it just seems such an odd restriction to not mail yourself. I’m really curious as to why it is not allowed. But I wouldn’t expect a response from an Anet employee. At least not one that truly explains why.

The reason is that you could store items in mails to your alts, circumventing your bank limit, which can be increased by spending gems = money.

So it makes perfect sense.

New Password rules = far to extreme

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Yargesh.4965

Or you are focusing so hard on one aspect of security that you are leaving yourself wide open to other aspects.

I tried to use a password that I’ve never used before, not on GW2, not anywhere, it had 20 characters and my e-mail is used ONLY for GW2. (9 quadrillion years to crack!)

“This password has been logged or used before”

Whaaaaaaaaaat?

Its possible that someone else had used the password before on some forum somewhere that got hacked or whatever, and that password ended up on one of the password lists that the hackers spread, which ANET probably picked up on, and in order for account thieves to not simply go through the list (assuming they knew your email adress and wanted to steal your account)

Impossible since GW2 has it’s own entirely unique e-mail address I have used nowhere else online. One of my friends (Who I know and trust) had his account hacked early on in GW2 and he had very robust security precautions – obviously they blamed him for having weak security.

So I implemented extreme security measures (unique e-mail, unique password, extreme strength password); and twice now my account appears to have been compromised. So, either gmail is both compromised and has someone using that data to datamine for GW2, or arenanet’s security is compromised.

I am good at some things, all vets outside of Southsun. Some champs scattered around can be solo’d. I am not fast enough at jumping puzzles to be able to do fractals and CoE. Given enough time sure but getting crap dumped on me has made me lose any interest I had at fractals. I don’t do runs of dungeons often enough to have a mental map of where anything is. If someone leads I follow and the group will get through. I can’t lead and if I do not ‘run’ fast enough past the trash that is left I will probably get lost or killed. Leaves little joy in doing these. ‘find a guild’ great song but frankly not really true.

Best class for a solo player?

Yargesh.4965

I am playing a different game than a lot of people. Ranger is easy to solo, you want aoe go with double axes. I leveled up to 60 with shortbow and a combination of gs, sword and off-hand axe. I now run longbow and double axe. I can take 6 mobs if I am dumb enough to pull them instead of picking them off in small chunks. It is not my dumb pet that pulls them if I place myself correctly. If the pet is at a distance and pulls aggro switch it out and the aggro with be gone in most cases.
Next people saying mesmer cannot do a lot of damage and are slow to level. Took my ele and mesmer to 80 without doing any dungeons or any crafting for lots of exp. They both levelled easily and fast. I have come to really love mesmer gs and sword/pistol. The mesmer was to me the easiest to level, easier than my guard to get to 80. I am about 99% solo play.

Yargesh.4965

Thanks for coming in and explaining where the team is coming from. I hope this leads to clearer content in the future. Great ideas on many things but implementation has often been a problem.

The key to understanding the understanding issue is in their recent blog on the Living Story. What they have given us so far are ‘teasers’, not actual content. There is also a reference to developers rolling off other projects now available to expand upon the story. The monthly events had to happen as they are a key value proposition for Anet. So, absent the ability to provide actual content, they occurred as ‘teasers’. I would expect the content to be fleshed out more properly over time and this should make the story more understandable. TLDR: You haven’t been able to get it because there has been nothing to get.

Correct.

So a vague and convoluted answer is the correct way to think about a vague and convoluted piece of content?

Basically the devs were busy so they only had enough time to make 2 weeks of content and stretched it out into two months. Now that they’re done fixing minion AI and solving world hunger (pfffffft) we’ll return to our regularly scheduled hitting things til they die.

What we’ve released so far is teaser content. Our next release, Flame & Frost: The Razing, is where the story and characters ramp up.

I have done this event in small groups and large, It is always over quickly and only fails if no one at all is there so it can not be so tough. The only problem I have with it is the pathing of the krait coming from the east, as mentioned above they go up and through the wp instead of a direct line to the lab. Coming into one of these events can be quite a handful.
