You first need to at least play the class, and then attempt to give “tips” about it.
GS is only good for open world PvE, and killing scrubs in PvP. The weapon is relying on a single skill to put out decent damage, and that skill can be evaded by every single experienced player.

Yup, staff is highest dmg output.
Rotation I like to use:
Lightning – > Glyph of Storms
Water – > 2
Earth – > 2, 5
Fire -> 2, Arcane Blast, Ice Bow 4, 5, 1 spamStay in fire for rest of fight if I can.
I believe you lose some damage using this rotation. You need to stay in fire/air and not swap to anything else because of the +10% damage traits (assuming you’re 6/6/2 or 6/6/0/0/2)
If you have Air training as last air trait, you can start with Ice bow (attuned to Light), Glyph, AB/AW, drop Ice bow and go fire for the typical rotation.
If you have Tempest Defence, swap to fire immediatelly after using Glyph.

Read some of the replies… First of all I don’t care at all how people in some country live. If they don’t wanna learn English, I couldn’t care less. They can communicate with smoke signals and whistles for all I care.
But when you wanna play an MMO, you can’t demand that they translate it to your native language.
There should not be a German or French version of the game in the first place. What, those 2 countries are too dumb to learn English like the rest of us? Why isn’t the game also translated in Italian, Spanish, Greek, etcetc…
Everyone who plays an MMO and casualy joins groups etc should at least know the basics of how to communicate in English. Otherwise you are a burden to the group even if you have a nobel price in Quantum Physics.
TLDR; Learn English like the rest of Europe who don’t have handicaps for everything.

I’ve been to Germany many times, the country has the higher % of non-English speaking people. (Probably of the whole Europe).
Everything is translated to German. Even the TV has every single show with German voice-over…
Your 50% is probably more of a 20-30%, and that only to the big cities because of work..

Tranlations? No, no need. But WHY people from, for example, Eastern Europe(yes, we exists), cannot speak and normally communicate to each over on their languages?
Russian, Belarusian, Ukrainian, etc languages dont work in chat. WHY?
Because then the chat would be a joke. Everyone would be speaking in their language and you would have to scroll up to actually see stuff you want.
Again, the global speaking language is English
If you can’t communicate in English, then you should not really be playing an MMO.
All you’re good for is get in a group be a burden to the rest of the team because you can’t talk to them.

TLDR;
Thief got ganked by ranger.
While I don’t usually agree (or even bother to look) with QQ posts before we get the whole picture, the “no dungeons” info does not look good. The current PvE “end game” (and I should not call it that because it’s not even close to being end game) is all about the dungeons/fracts. They said about challenging content and stuff, but I really doubt they will release so much open world content to “replace” dungeons.
In the end of the day, when we will finish with HoT stuff, I’m afraid we’ll be back grinding the same old dungs/fracts…

1: Turn off AA
2: Learn the encounters of the game
3:#3 is pretty much an instant skill. Use it when needed
4:#2 has 1 second induction, then the evade is activated. You need to train a bit on when to use it, but it’s still easy.
5:Take dagger for another extra evade in fights you know you will need a lot of evades
6:Ignore bad players who don’t wanna bother learning how to play with the sword, and wanna push GS into the current meta. They will tell you how broken the sword and the class is and how you should not have to do such work etc.. Just ignore them. In the end they will be the ones getting kicked out of serious group, not you.

Yes, I have as a matter of fact. I did for around 5 years.
A lot of them mechanics that were essential to the fight though weren’t based around the Trinity as a whole though.
Since we’re going deep into game mechanics, GW2 has:
- Control – Movement (Immobilise, Cripple etc), Damage (Blind, Weakness etc) and CC (Daze, Stun etc)
- Damage – Melee, Ranged, DoT’s (Bleed, Torment etc) and Debuffs (Vulnerability, Poison etc)
- Support – Spot healing (regeneration, splash healing from skills), Condition Removal, Offensive Support (Might, Fury) and Defensive Support (Aegis, Protection).
Then we have things that don’t fit neatly into a category like combo fields and finishers and reflects.
So, tell me: With all of these mechanics at hand, why couldn’t you have engaging raids that are more than zerg and dps?
We have these and more in-game since launch (2+ years). They are “playable” tactics. Heck, you can even have dedicaded healers (cleric ele’s camping water) in the group. Thing is though you will be far far better with the current meta. (Stacking to 1 spot, freeze & nuke) It is the case in every single dungeon.
As long as the whole game relies on dodge roll to avoid damage, and not mitigate it by any kind of buff, healers will never have a spot in meta, neither will tanks. Most of the bosses can one shot you, so what’s the point of having someone healing or tanking? Not to mention that water fields mess up might stacking/blinds etc…
+Also ranged dps is not viable because of no helping the group.
+DoT dps is not viable because of condi cap @25.
+Controll is not viable since you will mess the defiance removal proccess which is 99% job of thief.
So no, I have no reason to believe that 1 update will change how the whole game works for 2+ years now…
As I said before, I hope that the new defiance system along with class specs will change something, but my hopes are not high…

Not sure what you’re trying to say, but GW2 has no roles. There’s no tanking, there’s no healing, there’s only dps, and a minimum amount of support (which only some classes can offer).
That’s why 85% of the skills of ALL classes will never be a part of the PvE meta, and within 2 years, 1 out of the total 8 classes of the game, was never a part of the PvE meta.

I never know how unchallenge range long range is with experience in wvw. I find 1500 too much no risk for ragner class range. Standard long range is 1200, what i do not understand is do ranger class need that +300 range to be effective as a long range class?
In wvw, all i was doing is spam longbow skill #1 and i feel this is too much not having risk for a range class. I am chock that i kill 8 player in 5 minute just for being in 1500 range: i find that problematic not accept for challenge play and require no risk play. No class should have easy advantage + with 0-little cooldown.
In Pve and Pvp: i see same effect and it should not be that way at all.
Last: there is no excuse, there is no reason for that class to have +300 advatage over standard 1200 range especially can spam with very low cool down.
Suggestion again: make ranger class range be 1300 range for challeng play and risk play.
Ranger class need have risk not have over advantage: i remember too, they have pet that can go long range: it make no sense giving ranger 2x long range- rangerpet+high mobility for ranger= too much no risk, too much no challenge
Conclude: Easy acess and easy advantage need to have risk and concequence.

If you call this a zone where tactics/co-operation is needed, you have not played anything serious in a long time.
Plus I’m talking about combat issues, not an entire zone mechanic. In a raid you won’t have an antire zone with 4 train zergs moving around. Combat is the #1 factor in raids/pve instances. As it is now, no mechanic can raise the skill needed for PvE.
We’ll have to wait and see how changes are in HoT.
Considering they tried as hard as they could to avoid answering the question, I doubt it.
I’ve noticed in all their interview they’re trying to stay away from this topic as much as possible. Which as far as I’m concerned simply means that they don’t have anything to put on the table. So will there be raids? Maybe, but at present it’s either at a design phase or at a very early implementation phase.
With no trinity you also get raids that are a lot less mechanically impressive.

I guess you haven’t been playing S2 of the living story. There’s a lot you can do without a trinity to make encounters interesting.

Ironically, Power rangers were never free kills. I used to play 6/6xxx before the september patch, on both PvP and PvE, and performed the same I’m performing now.
All this just shows how terribly low the average player skill level is in this game, when a player needs a good 2-3 seconds to even act while on combat…

Secondly the hate is strong because the new longbow ranger has ruined open world roaming and now you always have to consider LOS because should your evades, escapes, gap closers or reflects and oh kitten buttons be on cool down from a pervious fight say good night because there’s nothing you can do except die from someone almost 1800 range.

Ranged is not a cosmetic potion. If you build your char so glassy that you don’t even have a chance to get close to a ranger, then you deserve to die. If you have 0 cd’s because you burnt them earlier and you meet someone with everything available, you are in a dissadvantage anyways. Nothing to do with rangers….

TLDR; Don’t use Sharp. edges. Its a condi trait, and LB is a power weapon. For PvP/WvW use Agility Training instead. its game-changer for the pet.
I use Night/Force for PvE
Lighting proc/Condi tranfer on crit (chance) for PvP/WvW

@OP: Looks like you’ve been trying to decide between a Ranger and Warrior since October 2013 if I’m reading your post history correctly. Even if it was October 2014 you could’ve leveled both to 80 and been in full exotics by now. And been able to decide for yourself which is better.

Yeah, I defend the pet system, because I’m not a little crying baby. I log-in and learn how to play instead. Seems hard for many people.
Now lemme tell you why i don`t like the pets:
1-Can`t jump/climb a cliff no matter its size
2-To start AA on a target it will require it to find a path to the target, stop a moment to make sure he is in range then start casting the auto attack, now put the pet do that to a THIEF !!!
3-Totally BRAINLESS, will keep auto attacking in Area of effects (Necro wells,ranger traps,eles storm…etc)he will stand still in the AOE with not even a chance to get out of it
4-USELESS in big groups, he will go there trying to find his path (as i sayd at point2)and will get hit by the “truck” comeing back as useless as he went.
Those are the most important issues, fixing those will make others wont matter anymore.
While I don’t really bother repllying to n00bs or trolls, I got bored.
1: Swap the pet while you are in the air (while jumping), and it will cause the pet to come down with you. Wait for 2 seconds again to start regen, and re swap it (if you like…)

2: No such thing as pathing or anything. That’s info out of thin air. The pet might wait a bit before jumping (like wolf), because he’s chanelling a skill (leap). Traiting Agility Training help a whole lot on both WvW and PvP, if you want the pet to be of some kind of help. You also have a couple of dozens of methods to grant them swiftness…
3: F3. ……
You are the one who needs to keep an eye on the pet. It’s part of your class. It’s not a class on it’s own. Calling them brainless .. Oh- the irony…
4: The game is ballanced on 5 man groups not on 40 v 40. It’s MMO fact that pets are underperforming on zergs. Then again, who’s relying on the pet for WvW zergs… ?
PS: Hating on pets became a trend once again on ranger forums lately I see… RIP.
