Actually you can use an Xbox controller for GW2. I set one up for my wife, but it is fairly complicated and she had to have a cheat sheet with all the buttons. In the end it turned out to be much easier to use the keyboard and mouse. :P

I’m used to controllers though I never could play properly with keyboard with mouse. If I knew how to do it free of charge I would.

I managed to get into a loss against 4 [WOLF]guild and one [HUNT]. It was clearly organized.

Being a solo Qer, I should have not faced them at all. It ended 500 to 1xx.

If you want a complete “balanced” game play GW 1. Most skills did almost nothing in damage and we only have at max 540 HP min 55 HP! Numbers were super small and anyone could beat anyone even with the kitteniest build.

I neither have a warrior or a ranger and I know that OP kittened up. Even eles can avoid that with mistform + earth 5 on focus and lightning flash. It is indeed a L2P issue.

Unranked has no affect on leader board so its best to use that to learn anew class with. Don’t go into ranked with a class you can barely use.

I really am not sure how MMR is even used in unranked when there is no visual standings for it. I do have an idea how it is used in ranked so any class i can’t use effectively or consistently, I’ll stick to unranked with.

I understand all the maps by now however.

How I see the modes being used:

Hotjoin/Custom: beginners only that have no idea how to pvp or haven’t mastered any classes. Good for learning maps.

Unranked: Suitable for middle of road players that know the maps and rotations but haven’t grasped much of any of the 8 professions. Least impact for anyone. This is where I’ll be taking my mes, thief, engi, ranger, or necro for the most part.

Ranked: only when you have a very firm grasp of profession mechanics for at least one profession and can rotate around the map effectively, communicate, and whatever else do; you go to this mode. MMR and Leader Board are fully active, and you have to win to get better.

My ele and guardian are the ones that pvp in this.

I just don’t want them in ranked. All I do is ranked cause leaderboard has nothing for unranked.

While we’re looking into curiosities, is there any special reason why I keep getting matched against certain people? There’s one particularly handsome guardian the system keeps matching me against. This is troublesome. I am developing feelings for my darling K****r, and I’m forced to show my affection by rekking him.

They should call it matchbreaking, not matchmaking.

Anyways, I also been seeing just terrible matches and like 1 win every 5 losses lately. I really wonder if its me or the really good people I paired with that were farming the Winterday track are now gone and I’m being shoveled into low end pug groups for solo q. If I do win, its mostly only going be by 50-100 and not any more than that. If I lose its anywhere from 300 behind to 50 behind.

Perhaps not for dragon bash then, yet we may see return of skins to buy.

I had a pretty bad expedience like the op, but I only went through a single set of equipment as it was new content and I had to figure it out. Once I did, it took me a full half hour start to finish.

I kinda liked the fight. It was hard and kept me on my toes. My only problem with it wasn’t with how it was designed, but my computer being too crap to have me respond fast enough to attacks and stuff which contributed to many of my deaths. There was too much going on in an instance to have the speed necessary to react.

If I had a better computer, I’d be able to hit my dodge and use skills faster with less lag and latency and faster reaction times.

I probably have to play better too, but for the most part, it is doable if you know what you are doing. And for first timers, it can be hard with so much sensory overload.

I been getting loot off everything in SW even in the fort defenses, just I can’t do enough damage to qualify for loot (which means no exp either) most times. LS personal story though, nothing drops loot of course.

Also I have upwards 600% MF with all my boosts. I might have to join a party to loot qualify.

Anything that ran on XP, VISTA, and 7 should run on 8/8.1 and if it ran on those 5, it should run on 10.

Read up on your operating systems people! Windows XP and the more modern ones are all Windows NT platforms. XP is 5, vista 6, and 7 is well, 7; as well as 8 and beyond. 10 is obviously, NT 10.

It does have a huge impact. The same fractal, same route we did twice in it; the urban battle ground one where we are Charr, the same veteran mob dropped a rare twice so far and I’m packing 211-231% MF.

It also dropped a glob of crystalized mists essence as few times in the same drop.

When I had much less, I never got anything from that mob. Now I really want to make full run full kill dungeon groups to kill every last foe! Trash always gave me stuff even early on and they will do so more often now yet a rare was seldom found before.

Also I been getting more and more rares from chests especially in fractals. I also pulled an exotic magi’s amulet from a mob today.

For the record, you can get over 800% MF in GW 2 in Silver Wastes and every boost and item and 300% and account achievement point bonuses.

I see it as this:

-Valentines weapons re-released in February (I wanted the GS)
-Spring WvW tourney for a month in march (ew) Big Sale on storage, crafting licences, character slots, you name it!
-SAB World 3 in April?
-Pavilion back in May? Re-release and sale on Atherblade, Fused, Biconics weapons, S1 armor sets, etc.
-Dragon bash for summer for June-July (1.5 months). Re-release and sale on Southsun, Jade, and Zodiac weapons return sale on Zodiac armor.
-August is expansion launch at latest.

My character would never accept them as allies, as her ancestors fought against them and the White Mantle. My girls kill bandits as soon as they see them.

After a certain exp % gain it seems to cut your base gain in half and append it to the bonus exp you get. You do not get the exp you should. When I didn’t have the MF food and tool that gave 20% extra exp withe everything else up and killed a morderm wolf, it gave me the normal exp gain again and a huge bonus 3-5x the normal amount.

I had:
-Birthday (100%)
-gem store (50%)
-weekend effect (+200%)
-Account +12%

If I added food and halloween tools:
-Omnomberry bar (+10%)
-oil, sharpening stone, or the tuning crystal: +10%

372% exp gain total and it bugs up after 350-360% it seems.

Mining stuff should give me 1334 exp, but I get 901 or 400 instead then another 400 ish in the bonus column.

reviving people downed or dead i should get 1334, but i got 667 and bonus 667 which is half of 1334 and the other half gained as bonus exp.

Events award correctly though, and I get the 18355 or so in both normal reward and bonus with the indigo being defended with gold medal status.

All this was observed in Silverwastes.

I am but as I said in the other thread below this one concerning buying with gems, I won’t be able to get it unless it as store copy.

I had a warrior that couldn’t be finished as he somehow was able to be stuck in the floor making my finisher hit next to him i reported him and eh started getting nasty with me after match saying, “You can’t report me for getting stuck in a floor!” he was deliberately using a bug or something… three times then his buddies came and killed me. It was the silent storm map. We won though.

lv 30 story lv 35 explorable (recommended). You are not locked out below 30 if you go with a party and they enter for you.

It could still be possible in that the gods may have disposed of their predecessors ,any times across generations and eons, and they may have been closer to the dragons in elemental type and domains.

Gem Purchase track: The more real money you spend, the more nice rewards you get. Example of total money spent rewards:

1. $10 – 1BL Key
2. $25 – 3Bl Key
3. $50 – 5BL key + Mini pack of choice + “Black Lion Partner” title.
4. $100 – Ascended weapon box OR a free weapon skin unlock of any BL kit.
5. $150 – Ascended armor box OR a free armor skinpack. + “Black Lion Merchant” title.
6. $200 – AN Supporter Superpack (lots of choseable goods)
7. $350 – “Black Lion Trader” title.

Something like this. With these kind of heavy rewards, people will less likely to buy legendaries from third-party sites I guess.

I’m way over $160 in gems already since I started GW 2 on day one with gem cards alone! That is real money even if its cards… I hope they take that into account too.

To be back on topic though: I want to see more sales on storage. Maybe you guys should do a spring cleaning sale or have Black Friday actually sell storage and stuff related to home instance at discounted price?

I got 4000 gems from Christmas ($50 in two $25 2000 gem cards) and I still haven’t spend a single gem because I am waiting for sales on bag slots, character slots, bank tabs, and material limit expansions.

Please make it happen!

My only gripe about this is the level unlocking the accessory slots.

Even after NPE changes, you never had accessory slots locked by levels (yet most accessories and stuff aren’t even available for lv 1 equipment (besides Hero’s Band and Polla and the old back “statless” item place holder for quaggan backpacks, etc.), even though by leveling up, you get a notice and hint about how they are used, you have access to all your slots even at lv 1.

So you best fix that as its false info.

I have the max number of bags in this order, top to bottom:

1. 20-slot backpack (default) we all start with one.
2. 20-slot Ancient Karka Shell box
3. 20-slot Fractal Uncommon Equipment Box
4. 20-slot Gossamer Bag
5. 20-slot Craftsman’s Bag
6. 20-slot Equipment Box
7. 20-slot Equipment Box
8. 20-slot Invisible Bag

Each bag has everything properly organized by relevance and what not, with the top most backpack carrying consumables and most used account bound/soul bound things such as kits and tools, and each next bag having area specific stuff such as keys, lock picks and boosters/food and more.

The bottom three bags are for my 4 armor sets and every weapon I have.

I do have enough space of approx. 30-50 slots to hold loot I find.

For some reason, I could not send whispers out at all last night. Only when I receive one, then I can communicate via whisper to the one that sent it.

Things I tried:

-Whispering by typing name in.
-rightclicking someone on the chat box
-rightclicking on someone on the map
-rightclicking on someone in guild lists.
-rightclcking a name in the contats/friendlist
-rightclikcing in the followers list.
-Joining a party with who I want to talk to and trying again.

All these failed.

Reloading game entirely is the only fix yet. I had this happen a few times over the past 2 years playing.

This set and a another set for mediums that has some parts in pvp, some pieces in personal story only, and other pieces not even available at all.

Marauder’s set its called. I really want that set in full. I think I only have the top and the mask.

I really want a larger trait point limit as there are builds I can do that are not in any way broken that could be done that way with 8 trait points per line or 6 in 3 of 5 lines.

Such as making engi actually useful and mobile in PvE/WvW without using speed boosters.

Yumi already wants to burn a few of them out of public embarrassment twice by newly “fallen from the tree” members that have no business in a human city. She gives Sylvari a wide berth already.

Mechanics does not ever = lore. you are now confusing mechanics with lore. We might need Koing here to really set this straight as this will just get into a forum war with people here again.

Yet I quote from the factions manuscripts book that comes with factions:

“Chang Hai, a prince who followed the path of the hero and became Ascendant before taking the throne.”

There is only one path of the hero and that is the crystal desert with Turai Ossa.

Weh No Su is an alternative because the celestial creatures are, in effect, intermediaries for the gods, in turn, guided by the envoys and oracles of the mists. Which is what the ascension right does as well in prophesies with the forgotten being stewards of the gods. They all, in effect, guide us into ascension.

The gods then look down upon you and bless you with ascension or Weh No Su. It takes a great challenge to over come to become ascendant in its many names.

Nightfall I can’t really speak for, I guess fleeing for your life against an enemy of the 5 gods itself + the Kournan military is considered a big enough challenge and making a new base with all odds against you smack dab in the middle of Kourna is enough to make the gods deem you “ascendant”.

Originally even Elonians under went the path of the hero as all of Ossan descent do including our very own villainess, Varesh Ossa.

Could you tell us GW1 lore ignorants what this ascension stuff is about?

Ascension is basically communing with The Old Gods. So far it’s only been attributably accomplished by Margonites (who were servants of Abaddon) and our player character in GW1.

Caithe being Ascended – or even being capable of it – would be a really big deal. Ascension is a process connected to the gods, and being Chosen is, as far as we know, a trait that only humans can have. For a sylvari to Ascend would raise a lot of interesting questions.

Why would she not be capable of it? There are only three separate instances of Ascension mentioned in lore: Margonites were all basically servants of Abaddon, and their ascension is likely a direct result of their direct communication with a god. Turai Ossa and his people basically waged war on the Forgotten, split up out of greed and mistrust, etc. and never accomplished it (although they sought it). The only other example is our Guild Wars 1 hero, who would’ve never gone through these steps had it not been for Khilbron and Turai Ossa’s ghost. That’s basically three separate notations of Ascension and only one success after the exodus of the Gods.

We don’t have any information to suggest it wouldn’t be possible for other sentient races, and since the gods were very definitely real (although they aren’t Gods – as we once thought of them), I see no reason why Caithe couldn’t manage. As far as Chosen and such go, this is in a 5 year historical timeframe of knowledge…From 1067 to 1072 and this is limited knowledge within a limited timeframe due to all of this occurring within the White Mantle and Kryta which was inhabited by humans and beasts.

There’s no solid evidence to suggest that it couldn’t happen. Although whether or not it’s true is a stretched theory, I’ll admit.

You forget all Canthan emperors are ascended as well after Chang Hai, the first ascendant emperor of Cantha.

I still have to get every achievement, get a better computer to really experience and enjoy WVW. I have to have ascended equipment on every character so I can enjoy fractals on them all, got to have 8 characters at lv 80 in every profession (need 2 new slots for that). Also get every legendary weapon one day and every skin I can still get.

I RP on three characters and plan to have a custom story for all 8 and RP on each and every one.

I’m 2 years playing now and still not ever done.

I had a dream last night where I was playing in a new arena in sPvP that took place in the higher up branches of the Pale Tree. Like this was the warden’s training facility or something, where you went higher up three floors and you fought like team death match but vertically with crisscrossing paths and branches, and no gimmicks but kill or be killed with fall deaths a plenty!

The score was hard set to 1000 and only one capture point for each side existed on the middle level, which was a revive point, so you can revive closer to the battles instead of climbing all the way back up.

I won 1000 to 950 btw in the dream before waking up.

This map should exist and be a alternative to the same 5 or 6 maps we have.

I noticed this as well: players like me which have played AB JQ FA in GW 1 alot for pvp rather than the normal pvp on battle isles seem to have a better grasp on pvp mechanics in GW 2 pvp.

Its essential to keep moving if you are a mobile type or hold a point if a more tanky type and treat each moment like life or death situation.

I tent to play spvp just like I played AB, FA and JQ, and I was kitten good at all three; keeping places and defending and retaking. I know many may have not played gw 1, but the modes in gw 1 are not that different than here, just larger scale.

Quickly decapping is a great idea that many seem to not get. I had to do that a lot in AB and JQ, it meant the difference between a win and a loss.

Yet I have pvped a lot in the 7 years of gw 1 and enough in GW 2 already. The pvp we have here is not really much different than say, alliance battles or JQ and FA.

A totally new player is going to fare worse with a cookie cutter build than say a player that has experience in two gw games spanning 10+years total using one and further more will fare worse than a player that doesn’t use said builds and learns to counter them with his own made up ones.

I am aiming to be the last of these three, the one that makes their own builds to beat all others.

What really hurts is everyone thinks they are good using a build off a website!

I lost more matches on my Guard recently than I am winning due to people using these builds and sucking.

I then talk in map chat and if gets into another meta vs non meta fight and people saying I’m the problem to why I’m losing when i know for a fact its my team and not me. As I even were winning on my own custom builds on my engi only to lose the lead 500 to 400 or worse because someone else drops the ball when i have been carrying and leading every kitten game!

I am smarter than the meta and it really sucks that everyone targets me with name calling and kitten saying in the noob and scrub.

Who’s better? A player that knows his or her classes more in pve and pvp for 2 years and just started in pvp or a person copying off a website just because they were told it works and doesn’t know any better?
