This^.Also they have the cool dodge blur.I personally chose asura for PvP reasons.
But now i am kinda sorry,because you just can’t see their armors and weapons.
It’s like they are wearing toothpicks instead of daggers.They are just too small.

- Fix to Steal so you can’t land CnD/Steal then Backstab landing all 3 damage
Bad Idea.Then Burst thieves will trait Hidden thief and Go with D/P with a combo like this
Steal-BS-Black Powder-Slash-Slash-HS-BS-Rinse and Repeat

- Slight reduction in Backstab dmg (10-15%)
Bad Idea.BS itself isn’t guilty for anything
- Overall reduction in max crit dmg % for all classes (diminishing returns)
That makes sence
- Some minor buffs to p/p, sword.
That makes sence
- Some minor adjustments to short bow (some minor buff, some minor nerf)
Cluster Bomb maybe will be hitted a little
- Mesmers nerfed to the ground (I wish!)
Only Portal and Moa.Otherwise are OK

That tree is about pure damage and about the Venom powers. Since only x1 of the Venom powers even does Condition Damage, it’s not surprising that this minor trait is found in Deadly Arts and not Trickery.

That the way it is,but considering Deadly Arts increases Condition Duration it must have “something” for it as well.But condition to increase itself damage isn’t right.

heh. My one friend goes on about how he wrecks thieves all the time. Particularly with his Hammer Warrior. Know’s they’re going for a BS, rolls and hits them with Hammer Shock then proceeds to stunlock them to death. (says the only thing that could trouble him is a Guardian or a good Necro.)

I am sure he is not lying. I am condition thief with very good hp pool and survivability and these guys give me such a trouble,let alone being 14k squishy BS thief.

Backstab, time to nerf.

@Awe Blizzard have long story of nerfing classes that don’t need nerf,and closing their eyes for classes that need nerf(cough …frost mage… cough).
Anyway this is GW2,and here as always whiners are putting every thief build as Backstab build.And this is sooo wrong.Even with BS(assuming BS combo needs nerf),the problem isn’t in BS itself,more like with C&D+Steal+BS fast execution.

Cloak & Dagger: Is it bugged ?

There is an old bug,where if you do the Steal+C&D combo,you will actually stealth,but you will be completely visible on the screen(just visually to you).Maybe this is your problem.It is in fact very annoying because you have to watch if you got the Stealth buff or you missed the C&D.

In my opinion what ANet should do is to swap P/D third skill Shadow Strike with D/P third skill Shadow Shot.My reasons is that P/D while depeneding much on C&D doesn’t have ANY gap closer(compare it to IS or HS) and on the other hand D/P already have HS and could use some get-away shot.

Again and again and AGAIN:

Culling isn’t Stealth problem,nor it’s a thief problem.It is a client problem.

Not all thieves are Backstab builds.

The bug with the thief appearance after Stealth should be fixed,so as the bug where
1-2 sec after Stealth thief gets hit by target attacks like Eviscerate and Heartseeker.
Those two things compensate each other(at least in terms of time),so it will be roughly the same->bad players will lose again,so don’t hold your breath.

Pet cooldown needed > min 2-5 days after last pet.
Also illusion cooldown>min 2-5 min.(plus 2-5 sec on the mesmers stealth).
Turret and minion too > min 2-5 min.
For Guardian i would suggest 2-5 min CD on passive aegis,regen,also on condition removals.
Infact any class that counter damage trough high natural toughness/HP instead of stealth must have a cd on armors.2 min geared,2-5 min naked.
Warrior can use 5-20 min cd on mechanic to gain adrenaline.
*ALSO 2-5 years CD on the WvW,because i am sick of whiners because of wrong-noobish-laggy-culling-gearbased impressions because of WvW.

So you are basically tell me,that someone will ignore every opportunity to press BS himself when he is sertain it will land,but instead has macroed his keyboard to hit 1 exactly 3.9 sec after C&D no matter positioning,CC,opponent dodging e.t.c and by this he will reliably achieve perma-stealth? We can’t time the Stealth buff to backstab without being revealed, and this is a great fix. It was really imbalance to be able to perma stealth+backstab.

What fix?Do you even know what are you talking about?Show me a video of that bug .
I have lvl-ed my thief with BS build and i have never heard or seen a bug,that allows you to execute stealth skill and not get revealed.You say"it was really imbalance",like you experienced it every day.Prove me wrong,show a video.As i check your posts,you are kinda WvW freak.Again i ask you,do you know what you are talking about.Do you mistake culling with perma-stealt?

HS Spammers are the lowest tier of thief society.And HS+Haste spammers are the lowest of the lowest. I think that ANet must change only 80lvl to be able to join SPvP and tPvP.The lower lvl may still be able to hang in the Heart of The Mists to train at Golems,npc’s,Svanir,Chieftan e.t.c and to see the shiny armors of the others and inspire themselves.This will ensure that no FOTM by any class will be ruining the experience.
Edit:To clarify,i don’t think that HS spam is FOTM at all.They are just terrible losers.

@deriven,i am sure now that you don’t play thief.Your proposal is stupid.
You are talking about total rebuild of the thief class.It is not about damage and HP at all.We are talking about whole traits reworked.While in Stealth Thief can stack might,regenerate initiative faster,clear conditions,regenerate health,move faster e.t.c.Also it will need rework/remove of many UI skills.Also rework/remove of many weapon skills.Are you sure that total rework is a less headache that a single ele care to defend himself from insta backstab?And again never draw conclusions from WvW.
As far as “the other game”,last time i checked in Cata,rogue was moving faster in stealth than out of stealth.I can’t talk about the Pandas expansion,i don’t play it,because obviously i play the better game.

P/P Condition Build

Impossibru
Bleed builds kill slowly,which means you have to outlive the target.With P/P you will not have easy access to Stealth—>you will die fast.As suggested go D/P.From you post i get the impression,that with D/D,you tend to spam DB and caltrops,which will work in PvE,because npc’s don’t cure conditions.However in PvP if you aren’t good with C&D landing ,you will have a huge problems.

The game is young.Two month since release,it looks pretty good(not there isn’t many things to be fixed or changed). Off course theese 2 changes wasn’t forgotten in the patch notes.Those things are checked and rechecked and spelling checked and edited several times before release.
It was a little get-away-lie,which we will forgive,because we love GW2 .The “good catch” made me laugh,good joke.

I imagine the following conversation:
Community:Some people think,that P/D and P/P are the red haired children of the Thief Family.
ANet:Not at all.We love all our children,even the adopted ones.
Community:OK,then.Let us see…Compared to P/D, the big brothers D/D,S/P and S/D have at least as good(if not better) stealth 1 slot skills,better by far 1 skill chains,and one million times better 2 slot skills.P/D doesn’t have any gap closer and this makes the Sneak Attack-C&D combo pain in the a**.Skill 3 is crap.Skill 2 is the joke of the year.
Do you intend to do anything about the setup?
ANet:We already did.We fixed Backstab,so some players will not be able to restealth after executing it.
Community:But this only “fixed” a bug to BS,which nobody but you ever saw and only made P/D worse…

Fair enough,but Sneak Attack is one Stealth opener,not 5 openers.You get my point.We have too many broken weapon sets and instead of fixing them,you brake more(hopefully unintended).

@Adein,i don’t know about the visual graphic,but i do a macro,which presses 5(C&D for stealth),then 1 after 3000 ms(it executes sneak attack and reveals),and at the end,after exactly 3300ms again 5 for Cloak&Dagger.Well it fails every time.With 3400 ms delay it doesn’t.That’s why i put the reveal to 3,3 sec.

I think they increased the Reveal debuff with 10% from 3 sec to to 3.3 sec.

I made a little test,using a macro from my keyboard.It is not “scientific” i know,but it pretty close measures the “reveal debuff” to 3.3 seconds.
I will post a screenshot of the macro i used:

Also i made a quick video.It shows that reveal is somewhere between 3,3sec-3,4sec.
So far i didn’t find the value of the reveal ,according to ANet.I will continue to search.

I can confirm that…
“Something is rotten in the state of Danmark”.
Maybe some “stealth” Stealth nerf.
Edit:Yesterday i was thinking that i am sort of lagging because of all that Halloween stuff.
But i experience exactly the same as the OP.To me it feels like “revealed” debuff was increased with 0.5 sec.

I think that with the Assassin Signet change,ANet clearly shows that they are more or less happy with the present state of the thief.They changed something w/o actually nerfing it as they did before to other skills(BV,HS,PW,DB,C&D e.t.c).I think that if the whining continues ,ANet will just refine the skills in question to something even better…

I am not sure this is a nerf overal
If you precast it before Steal(especially with the trait Signets of Power),it will cover Mug,C&D and Backstab +2 more(HS comes in mind).I have macroed it with Steal,and it works like a charm.

@Stiv the problem with the Hard to Catch trait is that it procs from Fear and Daze.
I would give my left hand for those 2 things to go away from the proc list.

Well the bow have poison aoe and bleeds from cluster and also great InfArrow.
However i found myself not running from anyone anymore.I just feel safer near a target to C&D at any time.This kind of gameplay is ment to stay and slowly kill the target/s while going in/out of stealth near him and slowly regen your own hp.That ruled out the Short Bow and put in place C&D in every hand.Thus D/D P/D.

Well i run both D/D and P/D.I stay as D/D while i can afford to DB+C&D.Once i run out of initiative,i change to P/D and play only C&D+Sneak Attack until i regen enough initiative.Then rinse and repeat.

Well it is sorta generic.You have zero deadly arts and zero critical strikes.
What don’t crit and aren’t affected by power?
What can deal damage while you are in stealth?
Bleeds.
Actually deadly arts affects bleed duration,but i figured out that prolonging the duration is not as good as increasing the strenght of the ticks.People are learning
to cure bleeds and you might wanna shorter but more powerful ticks.
So zero deadly arts isn’t to bad,exept you lose the poison from Steal.
I would suggest Caltrops trick,caltrops on dodge,endurance regen on dodge,might on dodge(might affect bleeds).Change elite to Dagger Storm,Shadow Refuge is OK.

Edit:You will not heal your teammates so much,exept once 30 sec(you aren’t guardian sorry),but you will be able to kill and die hard.

You can make it work for sure,but only with condition runes&amulet.It would take some changes thou.If you are ok with condition thief we can discuss.

Ever played other classes besides thief?

thief is OP and I played elementalist/mesmer.

Let me quote you from a different topic :

Against your level of reasoning i will say one thing:
I never played anything but thief since release .I have 1300 games with thief and i destroy 90% of all other thieves.The remaining 10% are beating me with the same class and runes and weapons as the other 90%.They are just much better than me.
Period.It is my problem,not theirs.For example i have much lower winning % against engineers and hammer warriors/guardians,or good cripple rangers,or almost every mesmer who doesn’t stay with “looking for group” symbol on his head.Do this make them OP?Or my build is weak against them,or my play style?Super Hero with invisibilty power.Bah.Like mesmer cannot stealth at all…

The problem is that their inability to play an “OP class” enrages them even more.They go back to their mains,but sadly they go back here as well and double the rant.

Sarrow is right about combo with steal(and also other skills like Inf Signet).They could increase it’s range from 130 to 170 thou.
