Scholar runes.
Fire + Force sigils.
Decked out in actual armor, no fancy flaming pieces or skimpy wear.
Anyone know what chest piece that is?
Sorry I don’t know how to quote people but @Ichishi.9613, what hood is this? looks awesome
Sadly the image Ichishi posted is from Guild Wars 1.
You can quote people by clicking the <- arrow underneath the persons post who you wish to quote.ah thankyou for clearing that up, was searching all over :L do you know of any hoods in gw2 other than starter hood that look similar?
Not sure if you would call it similar, but a good looking hood (in my opinion) is the Whispers hood. Copy and paste [&AgHjFAAA] into your chat in-game and it’ll show you the code and you can preview it.
Thief.
Ranger get’s extremely boring, extremely fast.
Sit’s at back and fires the same animation over and over again. Sword is great on Ranger, but it can be extremely annoying in AoE fights, as the built in leap stops you from dodging a lot.
I’ve made several Thieves, got them to 40+ and deleted them. I recently decided I was finally going to get 80, and crafted it. I’ve been 80 for maybe a week or two now, and I love it. It does insane damage, in PvE you are pretty squishy, but it makes it more of a challenge, and in the end more enjoyable.
I have five 80’s at the moment, one being a Warrior. I completely agree that they are just too easy to play, they also get boring fast.

That is not proof of him being afk.I think you should get an infraction for ilegitimely report players.
As long as we’re being smart, you can join a tournament then spend the whole game watching youtube?
You aren’t Away From Keyboard, so there’s no problem, right?
RoF held a Minion Master WvW event. Expect to see a lot more content soon, it was great fun.

Also, don’t worry if a Thief kills you. It’s not that you’re bad, Thiefs were just designed to get effortless kills.
Even with 1.7k~ thoughness I still eat 8k backstabs then get spammed by Heartseaker. Best you can hope for is that you apply enough conditions on them and they die while stealthed before they remove them.
Remember, if you’re simply trying to run away then there’s no point, because it’s not difficult for someone to just chase you down. If you are playing Condition damage then play offensively, try to keep distance.
This is currently the build I use and it works great. Conditions have huge uptimes and with over 2k condition damage I’m not short of damage either.
(edited by Zach.3264)
Play Condition Necro.
Use Plague #2 to AoE blind enemies within range.
Use Death Shroud, #5 has an immobilize at end of cast.
Death Shroud #3 can be used to fear. You can also fear them while facing away.
If you play Condition Necro, you CAN permanently Cripple with Scepter 2, so long as it’s not cleansed. You can also apply Weakness with Dagger 5.
I play Condition Necro and I forgot the name, but for 20 points into second tree you can increase the duration of Spectral utilities. This works wonders with the likes of Spectral Armour and Spectral Walk. Spectral Walk can be used to gain 30+ seconds of swiftness and then used again several seconds later to return to starting location. If used correctly you can stay out of combat long enough to heal/WP/Whatever you please.
Not often does it happen, but if you’re able to take the fight underwater it helps.
All of these aid survivability (for me atleast).
Just keep playing with the class, eventually you’ll learn your own little methods of dealing with each situation. Remember there will most likely always be someone better than you, don’t put yourself down because you’re dying.
It’s simple, go full power+crit for leveling. I used 3 wells aswell, you’ll fly through groups of mobs in no time.
Use power and/or crit food.
Sharpening stones
Bloodlust sigils
+power runes
Dagger/Warhorn
Flesh Golem
easy
EDIT: Also, don’t buy expensive gear before 80. I used to gear my alts out in the best they could, such as rare pieces up to 80. I then swapped to just using fine/masterworks and the difference is barely noticeable and you save a fortune.
(edited by Zach.3264)
Play how you want to play. Simple.
It’s probably been said (‘d like to think it has), though Wellmancer’s using Dagger are exceptionally strong, and their Wells are great for burning down a group of mobs in no time. I leveled through PvE using full power with wells, and it was a breeze.
I currently have an 80 Warrior, Guardian, Mesmer and Necromancer. Necromancer is my least played class (although I’m starting it up again). Though, I can safely say that in solo WvW as a condition build, they are fantastic. Honestly, they are amazing.
Why all the hate?
It’s a simple trait that hits like a truck. I wouldn’t complainThe complaints stem from the fact it wasn’t wanted. We needed help in survivability and they gave us this, which then led to nerfs left right and centre, all this for a trait that wasn’t wanted…
I see. I think I started my Necro after it was added, unless I hadn’t noticed.
I play Condition Necro in WvW and my Survivability seems fine however.
I tend to “burn” people down fast enough to survive, if not I have Spectral Walk and Flesh Wurm for some mobility.
That being said, if I’m chilled/crippled I have a really hard time escaping.
Oh my..
Yes Necro condition is amazing in WvW.
Infact, I’d even go as far as saying it’s ‘OP’
I got probably my fastest kill ever today which took seconds.
I hit a Condi Mesmer with Scepter #2, he used block on scepter and applied 5 torment on me. I used Dagger #4 to transfer it then went into DS and used Tainted Shackles. When I came back out I hit again. I’m using Sigil of Torment, he had 10 stacks of torment on him and he went down in mere seconds after that chain was applied.
It was beautiful.
Even against groups, Epidemic is always fun to switch to.
There were 4 enemies on sentry outside bluelake earlier, I threw down my Staff AoE’s then used Signet of Spite then Epidemic and ran back. I turned my camera back to watch their health plummet down.
I’m currently not online, but my god.. I’ve just put myself in the mood for playing. So, i’ll be going now to do so

Thanks. What builds are you running, Zach and WyldKat?
Well, right now I’m only using my Guardian for running fractals as it has most AR on it, I’ve been on my Necro recently. That said, my build is a bit of mix and match to be completely honest.
I primarily use hammer because I love the perma protection and AoE retaliation. I do tend to swap traits around a lot, but I’ve been running something like 20-15-0-30-5 mostly.
Does decent damage, loads of Vulnerability, good AoE might and excellent AoE might in heavy trash situations. Along with some decent group healing.
My secondary set will be Staff or Scepter+Torch/Shield depending if I need range or extra support. I also take a GS for the pull.
I use celestial trinkets and a mix match of zerk/valk gear with traveler runes. Fire sigils on weapons.
You may be right, Zach.
Funny thing is that normally I always take the approach that I should level up a new class to 80 first. In fact I’m doing that with my engineer right now.
I tried to skip this with guardian (only went up to level 10 or so thus far). My reasoning was that it was a more straightforward profession, and also, PvE is all about offense and killing things quickly and I didn’t think I’d get a lot of preparation for playing a defensive character that way.
But I might just be all wet on that.
Honestly, I had the exact same thoughts. My Guardian was probably the second character I ever made. It was level 35 or so and over a year old (I got my present on it not too long ago). I finally decided to play it, I crafted it to around level 70 and leveled the rest to 80. After playing it for a while at end-game I became much more competent with it.
I did however play it in SPvP a lot beforehand, but could never get the hang of it. Without even realising it, I gained a lot of knowledge through PvE for SPvP. All the little things you pick up while playing that you may not even realise help a ton. Such as all the trait effects, cast times on weapons, what plays well with what etc.
Are you a level 80 Guardian?
I had the same problem, I mained a Warrior and I played a tanky build in SPvP for a while because it was fun to hold a node against 2-3 power builds for long periods of time.
I tried playing Bunker Guardian because apparently they are better, but I was getting destroyed in mere seconds. I couldn’t get the hang of it at all.
I finally got round to leveling my Guard to 80 and after maybe a month of playing at 80 (fractals, dungeons, WvW etc) I went back to SPvP and I can safely say that I am far, far better now and they are indeed much better at bunker than Warrior.
I can only suggest you spend some time in PvE to learn the ins and outs of Guardian if you haven’t already done so.
You craft a pvp version called “runic blade” that will, in some indefinite amount of time become pve gear along with all other gear you have in the hom. It looks identical to infinite light, and the only reason infinite light is so sought after is for its looks, so it is irrelephant whether or not runic blades become “legit” infinite lights when the gear merge happens
How does one go about crafting the Runic Blade?
Phoenix token/arcane crystal/sword token/5x dust into the pvp mystic forge.
Bare in mind that this is also a critical craft recipe and you will likely go through a few frozen swords to get there. Get the phoenix tokens from salvaging tier 2 cultural armour
Alright, thanks!

I hope removing pvp crafting doesnt mean people have to PVE to get PVP gear in future. Infinte Light for example costs 825g in PVE, but easier to get in PvP. I think its a horrible idea to unify PVE and PVP gear anyway.
I’m confused, you can craft a PvP version of Infinite Light, or you can craft a PvE version with PvP materials?
They have said in the pvp roadmap that they are removing pvp crafting. Keep in mind if it’s a 30% rate it’s 30% every time, it doesn’t get more likely the more you do it.
Yeah I understand that, but 17 crafts with no crit. I should at the very least have received 1 crit.
Seriously, why is crit crafting in SPvP so difficult?
I’ve only ever made the effort to craft about 6 items, all of which have taken me many attempts.
I recently spent most of my glory on leveling alts and I have very little left now, I need Orrian gloves to complete my set and I’ve tried 17 attempts and nothing.
What’s the rate on crit crafting? I heard it’s 30% but I really doubt that at 17 fails.
You should have received two chests in that situation, it may have been a bug. I know that lvl 50 is bugged and you don’t get your daily chest, but Lvl 29 and lvl 12 should be working correctly. Did your party members get their daily chests?
The brackets are 1-10, 11-20, 21-30, 31-40, 41-50. So yeah, you should have gotten a chest.
Also, you don’t need to run on two different characters, everything is account bound now (just in case you didn’t know that).
And remember that each daily resets at the same time the daily achievement does (not sure what server time is, I’m not American)
I see, thanks.
I had a feeling I could run on the same character but I still like to switch characters anyways. My Guardian has most AR on it, which is why I use it for the higher fractals.
More than likely you ran a lower level fractal during the current reset cycle and forgot about it. Pretty much every time someone posts about this they realize that is what happened.
That’s not the case, I only run two fractals every day and usually just after lunch time so I can avoid any interruptions.
I’ve now missed out on quite a few daily chests this month, mostly during Maw.
Hi folks. So I started running fractals late November and I’m enjoying them so far. Though, I’ve noticed recently that I’m missing daily chests quite often. I’m not sure if this is a bug, or my poor understanding of how the scales work. So I’ll explain what happened earlier.
My current progress was at 28, I ran a level 29 Fractal on my Guardian and got my Daily chest.
I then swapped to my Warrior and ran a level 12 Fractal and upon completion wasn’t rewarded another chest.
I know I can get two chests/day but not sure at what Fractal levels. I checked Wiki and it seems to be saying what I was thinking, I’m under the impression I should have received two chests today, am I right or wrong?
TIA
Wasn’t sure if this belonged in this section, but I’ll post anyway.
Yesterday I bought full Human T3 set on my Warrior, along with a 35 Caustic Dye. I then noticed later on that the legs seemed to be a bit off.
I have attached two images to elaborate.
As you can see with image one, there’s a large gap at the left hand side between the armour and the player. Whereas the armour merges into the player on the right hand side giving it a more flush look.
The second image was captured while doing the /Cheer emote. I believe this is what the legs are intended to look like, as they are both -as far as I can tell- completely even.
I’ve played a Mesmer for a while now so I can clearly tell which is which, but if you haven’t then I’d suggest kiting round an object. They are extremely easy to spot when you do this.
Stay in range, if you’re within their range you just go for the one that’s moving/attacking fastest.
I swap between full phantasm damage and shatter builds often. They are both very viable.
Full zerk for either is fine anyway.
Have you tried experimenting with it yourself?
Just copying and pasting a build off a website isn’t the way to go. It’s the same for everyone, you’ll be playing someone elses preferences which you may not like, you’ll drop the build and think it’s awful.
Use a build editor and experiment yourself, if you like the stats you see, then try it. You’re more likely to enjoy it than playing someone elses build.
Asking if we like Mesmers in the Mesmer section of the forums
Though, yeah.. Mesmers are great. I do get a bit frustrated about having to set up damage when every other class can do it from their own weapon right away. That aside, I love them.
I also mained a Warrior when I first started, and even to this day it’s my most played character. But I still much prefer my Mesmer. There’s no denying that Warrior is far easier to get results on, but the challenge on Mesmer is what makes it more enjoyable for me.
There’s not really much point. I’m colour blind and even I can clearly tell the difference
I can’t remember which fractals or at what time, I know it was during midday though.
My personal level is 26, I ran both a level 21 and a level 16 and didn’t get a chest for either. Both end bosses were Maw.
You can always delete them if you truly “want rid”.
So I’ve had Maw twice in two weeks bug out on me, I didn’t receive my 20+ chest both times.
I crated a thread earlier thinking maybe it was only 20+ that was bugged, but I just jumped into a guild group for 10 daily and again, didn’t get my chest after Maw.
All 3 times there’s been someone dead at the end, I was thinking that maybe had something to do with it. But all three times, everyone else in my group got their chest but me.
I done my dailies yesterday and it’s as if they haven’t reset overnight.
Just had this happen to myself. Level 20 daily.
Twice in 2 weeks this has happened now, it’s rather annoying.
Both times we’ve had someone dead at the end of the kill, not sure if that has anything to do with it.
Twice in the space of 2 weeks now I’ve not received my daily chest after completing a level 20+ fractal. Both times have been with end boss Maw.
Is anyone else experiencing this?
Hammer is amazing, I’ve been using it from beginning on my Guard and still use it to this day. GS is amazing in group play for perma protection and retaliation. The damage from symbols is also surprisingly good and even better if traited to apply vulnerability.
I like 10/30/0/30/0 for Fractals.
Sword cooldown, clone on dodge, condition removal on heal, heal on mantra (spam group heals with mantra of pain) and reflects on focus.
Does a bit of everything really.
Depends really. You can trait to maximise Phantasm damage, where you just keep your phantasms up and allow them to deal damage and don’t need shatters at all. Keep 3 Phantasmal Berserkers up for example with +30% illusion damage is nice damage. Builds where you have loads of clone generation are useful for shattering, since that’s what clones are for.
Yeah, that’s one thing I dislike about Gw2, the skills feel really, really basic.
Basically do X damage / Apply X Condition(s) / Remove X boon(s)
Gw1 tooltips were full of different special effects and worked wonders.
Stop with the “AH is for new people” already..
It’s in the grandmaster line. No where does it state “this is for new players only”.
It’s a trait, it’s there to be used by anyone who wants to.It’s like saying only new players use Selfless Daring because they don’t have any friends to heal them.
I really do think half of you forget that there are a large portion who play MMO’s for enjoyment, and not to fuel their ego about being “best” or “better” than others. If someone wants to play AH then let them, there’s nothing wrong with it whatsoever.
Because while your team is suffering to get out enough damage to kill stuff fast enough you are sitting happy with your useless skill less build not giving a fudge about anything. Being a guardian is about being a ‘selfless defender’ not a self-healing-waste-of-potential. If you want to play AH in pve go ahead but just know that it’s like a wet fish flopping on the side of a boat
Not at all. I run AH in Fractals all the time and it’s great. My damage is still decent and I can survive easily enough to continue to do damage/heal others.
Plus, I run Hammer, when traited I can have my auto-attack symbol down 100% of the time if I don’t use #2. This applies constant -33% damage to my group.
And again.. you’re forgetting, not everyone plays to be as effective as possible, some people actually play for enjoyment, you know?do you slot in utilities dependent on situation or shouts for AH procs? You don’t need AH if you’re playing properly since you will be mitigating damage at the entire party well enough to not need to heal, well, yourself. Also, I find fun in efficiency so I don’t see why you bring the fun argument in. Meta is fun.
And that is exactly my point. “I find fun in efficieny so I don’t see why you bring the fun argument in”.
You’re thinking about only yourself. Not everyone shares the same opinion as you. Why should everyone else be pidgeon holed into playing what’s most effective because you think it’s the correct way to play?
If you’re meant to play a certain way, then wouldn’t Anet purposely make everyone play said way, and not give them the option to play differently?

Celestial is great for WvW.
I agree dual pistols would be awesome! But have any of you ever thought of a hammer? :0 phantasm would use earthshaker(not as often as other phantasms to keep balance) and maybe something like mighty blow on the #2, and a block that has a ranged launch for the counter attack (meaning you block an attack at 600 range or so and then launch them) plus mesmers with mjolnir!!! Please Anet make it a Christmas miracle!
Just had a really cool thought about a hammer block from range, when you block you teleport to target and slam the hammer into the ground and daze/stun
I really feel like we need a new weapon.
I understand Mesmers are supposed to rely on clones/phantasms what have you.. but in my opinion, we really lack a weapon that’s just decent auto-attack damage that every other class has.
I feel like we need to “set up” damage during all our combat encounters, whereas other classes basically jump right in with the heavy hitters right away.
- Warrior; Basically every weapon is good auto damage.
- Necromancer; Dagger is pretty sturdy auto damage.
- Engi; Rifle is decent.
- Ranger; Sword, GS, Longbow, Shortbow all good.
- Guardian; Hammer, GS, Sword, possibly mace?
- Elementalist; Staff and daggers are good.
- Thief; Daggers and arguably sword.
Don’t get me wrong.. Sword is decent damage, but we are too squishy to face-tank, plus the skills on Sword lean more towards ‘burst and swap’. Staff isn’t that great auto damage, and although Greatsword is good from a distance, it’s not all that great in close combat.
I’d just really like to see a weapon that we can use for auto damage instead of having to set up phantasms or attack from max distance on GS.
I seen a thread recently about weapon suggestions and “playing cards” really caught my attention. Even if these were implemented as new skills instead of weapons I feel they’d work wonders. Two decks, one being support based and the other being offensive.
If they don’t intend to add any new weapons soon, then I’d love for a Greatsword overhaul. A few suggestions I’d have would be..
- Remove the damage based on range on the auto-attack and make it a set amount.
- Keep the bounce on attack two, but automatically apply the 3 stacks of Might to caster.
- Add a damage modifier that increases the damage dealt based on the number of clones active. Possibly +20%/clone?
If not, then a drastic increase in the Sword’s auto attack. This would allow the user to take the risk of taking huge damage in order to put it out.
I’m really just putting my thoughts into text. If anyone would care to add anything/discuss then please feel free.
I’ll point out.. I do love my Mesmer the way it is, but I do wish for a decent hitting auto attack.
