(Continued)
22. Your zerg is split up/half missing or to put it bluntly – a long, snaking line at times. What would you do? (e.g; ignore it and continue doing your thing, wait for players to catch up etc)
23. It is understandable that a commander cannot be in all places at once. When do you find it appropriate to revive fallen/dead allies/downed players? Do you even bother aiding these players?
24. When is it a good idea to regroup when you are commanding in EoTM?
25. Your level of skill, gear & intended role/play-style when commanding in EoTM:
(i) How experienced would you label yourself as an EoTM commander?
(ii) What gear do you prefer to run when commanding in EoTM? (this ranges from gear/weapons/traits – you name it!)
(iii) What role/play-style do you run when commanding in EoTM? (e.g; survivability, outright offensive via damage, support or whatever you feel like equipping yourself with under the impression/knowledge that you’re surrounded by many other players to help you out)
The above question is vague but from my own personal experiences I’ve seen a few EoTM commanders clad in full tanky gear/traits so as to ‘stay alive’ the longest for whatever reason ranging to EoTM commanders who get downed so quickly it makes me ponder if they were willing to fall prone to death so fast or simply ran mindlessly head-first into enemy firing lines.
Feel free to discuss that question further.
26. Do you have a specific class/profession you choose when commanding in EoTM and why do you use that class/profession? (e.g; Mesmer, Warrior etc)
27. Funny moments. I’m sure we’ve all had some good, memorable times when commanding in EoTM. If you come across a specific opportunity would you take it regardless if it succeeds or not? (e.g; ‘portal bombs’, surprising an enemy zerg via veil(s) etc)
That is all for now. Yes, this is quite a lengthy post and I’m dearly sorry but I’ve been brooding over solutions for quite some time. As previously stated, feel free to discuss any of these questions amongst yourselves or if you have any feedback regarding said question(s) don’t hesitate to inform me – anything is greatly appreciated!
I have recently engaged in playing Edge of the Mists more often and have grown familiar with the map layout in general as well as the various tactics commanders use throughout the map yet I consider myself no total expert in this field of game play nor have I ever pinned/tagged up to carry the burdens that may naturally arise as being a commander in general, however, there are times where I COULD HAVE stepped in to give assistance but held back due to the impression that I am probably going to do an inferior task of it.
I merely wish to further improve my knowledge and experience(s) at EoTM and possibly having a go at taking up the task of commanding in EoTM if assistance is needed and I think it would greatly help if any EoTM commanders out there could give some advice they have, their experiences or if you could take the time to answer any of the questions I have in this post below. Furthermore, I think discussing said questions or answers would help others out there stuck in a similar situation as mine.
Foremost, I encourage anyone and everyone on their thoughts about this particular question – What do YOU think makes a good/decent/swell EoTM commander?
The following question(s) are more in-depth, aimed directly at anyone who has/does command in EoTM and would be further appreciated if answered/discussed amongst yourselves or your own personal experiences:
1. If you command in EoTM what is the first thing you try to do and/or what are the prime objectives you go for when commanding in EoTM? (e.g 1; things that should be done first above everything else or depending on your team’s situation e.g 2; you’ve lost a lot of your BLs to the enemy or you already own a lot of territory)
2. You are familiar with the map; what way(s) do you go about capping objectives? (e.g; do you cap as you go, skip certain things etc)
3. Multi-tasking can be overwhelming at times (e.g; actions to take next, listening to map/team chat, know where you’re going, who is doing what and so much more). Do you take the time to try and sort things out or do you continue on with what you’re currently trying to achieve and hope to resolve things afterwards?
4. What BLs are your preference or find the easiest to dominate during gameplay due to the map/terrain/mechanics design(s)?
5. Is it okay to have a vague plan of what you want to cap next and if things go awry do you have a back-up plan or do you simply move on to the next closest objective?
6. Tagless commanders. Despite the immense amount of players buying tags before the price increase I still see players commanding/running zergs without a tag/pin – Is it difficult and how do you go about maintaining a dominant role if you don’t have a tag/pin? (e.g; keeping & informing players where to go etc)
7. Siege. Very straight forward – whether it be bringing down walls or ramming in gates how do you go about using siege in EoTM and do you have any tips for siege placement and/or siege placement hot-spots within the map?
8. Defending. Straight to the point – Are you experienced at defending a certain objective and how do you go about preparing an objective for defense via siege placement? (e.g; reasonable spots for siege placement when defending)
9. What are some ways to keep an eye on the actions/movements of your enemy? (e.g; do you have someone to track enemy movements or do you merely keep an eye on the minimap and guess the enemy location/intentions)
10. When you encounter an enemy zerg what is your first move/decision? (entirely depending on your current situation, your own zerg’s state & placement. E.g; engage at whatever cost, defend or build siege such as AC’s, Balli’s etc)
11. Every EoTM commander would have experienced some form of negative intent on them. How do you go about ‘keeping your cool’; do you even try to stay calm?
12. What do you enjoy most about commanding in EoTM?
13. Is there anything you dislike about commanding in EoTM?
14. If possible, please share a positive and/or negative experience you had as an EoTM commander?
15. Have you ever made any regrets as an EoTM commander?
16. Have you ever given up a session of commanding for whatever reason? (e.g; the enemy is relentlessly dominating, little to few allies on to make it worthwhile etc)
17. As an EoTM commander is there anything you would not recommend and why?
18. As an EoTM commander is there anything that has made you better yourself at commanding in EoTM?
19. As an EoTM commander what do you expect from your fellow followers/players/zerg?
20. How do you deal with inner conflict within your zerg as an EoTM commander?
21. If you command in EoTM and have an active zerg how do you go about communicating with them to get your idea/point across? (e.g; do you repeat your motives just in case)
(Rest of questions and summary in my second post)
Took me roughly 5-10 minutes also although I haven’t had any time to begin the new patch chapter. Keen as a bean~ Perhaps it is your connection or you’re reaching the download limit like I sometimes do at near the end of the month?
Looks like a nifty all in one thing, levelling-wise. Shame I don’t use the ‘normal way’ to level alts anymore so the experience boost part of it is irrelevant to me; still great to have it on there just in case.
My question(s) is: does it stack like all other boosters (e.g; using 16 one hour long WvW boosters lasts for 16 hours) and can you choose this booster via the combined booster thing (has a little ? symbol on it in game)? Sorry, can’t remember the name of that item.
I personally hated the minigame at first but I grew to like it. I’ve had both sides of fun games where people communicated and worked together and also bad experiences where players stood idle for whatever reason or grew frustrated at villagers who hid well. Either way, it is not impossible to win as a villager; the game naturally weighs more towards the ghosts with their teleports, Mad King Says skills, traps and weapon skills yet I do believe villagers CAN be just as equally dominant but more in terms of teamwork…
I’ve had experiences where I’ve spawned as the first ghost only to find a villager and get hammer-smashed by a group of them because they had good planning. But generally as the days roll by and people grow more accustomed to the various hiding places in the game be it reachable, reasonable spots or ridicously debatable difficult to reach ones villagers will more often than not go hide there lengthening the game time till ghosts find and kill them which is what ghosts are supposed to do. But yes, I agree villagers could’ve been buffed a bit more.. During my time or seen some excellent players as villagers using various escape methods, really have no idea how they manage to last so long sometimes.
As for the game time – it’s lengthy indeed. Grindy. I don’t think it’s necessary to have it play for that long.. Possibly cutting it down by 2-3 minutes would be alright.
Don’t have much time left, on the go atm, will post what I’ve got here and come back later to add more if possible.. But needless to say this minigame is content ANet made and scrapping it entirely is a waste of time, effort, money etc. I believe the best we can do is give feedback on said problems, ideas too to improve the gameplay and hope that it can be implemented next year to make things more enjoyable.
Interesting research.
Only recently have I fallen into the grasp of no storage space left so I’ve been making alt toons to bank stuff. Extremely helpful.
I decided to unlock all extra bag slots on most alts and equipped them with the rewards from so many ToT Bags (20 slot Halloween Pails) and I must say well worth it instead of the usual cost for a mere 20 slot bag which is usually ~13g alone. Ha.
Already posted something similar regarding the Gwynefyrdd mini topic but alas – I did my own research a few days ago opening 50,000 ToT Bags. The following video of mine yields the data/drops/total estimates I recorded and collected along the way (more info in the video description. Feel free to ask any questions/comments.):
Most of the time for me it’d be crafting to level up alts as I managed to craft 4 disciplines to 400 and reached level 39-ish or so. If you’ve got the gold go for it I guess. Then there’s ascended crafting. Also when something new comes out it’s nice to know you have the crafting requirements to be able to make it.
Blade Shards still have a use; you can make the spinal blade BP and all the other related ones (exotic, ascended). All it requires is ONE Blade Shard to start which you can acquire by killing some aetherblades, or, if you were present during the LSS1 thing and kept some of the left over shards from loot then you’re good to go. That and the 4 blue prints you can buy off the TP.
Australia here. When I purchase $100 worth of gems (8,000 gems) it actually costs me about $118.. Noticed this over the past 3 months it’s been hanging around the $116-$119 mark.
The first time I saw one was at a world boss run, didn’t have a clue what the red emblem thing meant. I thought it was just another form of commander status. After finding out what it really was I’ve seen a few of them around (once in DR, another when LSS2 was released and no one could complete a part of it coz the NPC wasn’t dropping a specific item) and one other running past at another world boss run).
Agreed with Astral & Robert. I understand the first part but the second.. no idea sorry.
But yes, many games have a built-in wishlist of sorts when it comes to purchasing things that let you buy said item(s) on the wishlist with the click of a button and it gets sent to that specific person, generally with a little option to add a message such as “Happy Birthday” etc.
Right now the least we can do in this game is buy something for someone without knowing if they have it or not which is.. rather embarrassing if they do.
I wouldn’t really care whether a wishlist was implemented or not. It’d be interesting, hmm.
Posted on this thread a few days ago, back again to confirm the decent stuff I received from opening 50,000 ToT Bags over the course of 2-3 days:
- 1 Gwynefyrdd
- 5 Mini Zuzu’s
- 1 Gift of the Moon
- 2 Orange Refractor Necklace.. things
- 2 Endless Halloween Tonics
- An absolute abundance of asc mats (hooray)
If anyone would like to see the other drops in doing so I’ve collected all the data into one video on YT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXpge81kwDs
I wish anyone else out there hunting Gwynefyrdd the very best of luck and hope you snag it.
While it isn’t exactly what you’re asking for, try right-clicking the dyes on your panel. It should save that color to the top of your dye collection so then you can find it easier for next time.
I think it only saves a certain number (8? 10?) So if I have a pastel green color combination for my armor and want to use abyss, celestial, redemption and iron for costume one, 4 different dyes for costume 2, 4 different dyes for costume 3, 4 different dyes for costume 4,….. After about 10(?) dyes you can’t save any more.
Kross is absolutely correct in that it isn’t exactly what I am asking for, thank you anyway though, it’s still a handy feature.
This is why I have suggested a search option for unlocked dyes.
If I were to favorite all the dyes I really like, I would end up with a near duplicate list of all the unlocked dyes in the first place, unless that is, if what Astral states is correct – that you can only favorite a certain amount.
This would be nice indeed. I’ve often wanted this feature as I know the one I want to try by name but need to search for it by trial and error through several similar colors.
Exactly my thoughts; it’s a bit of a time waster as I have to do the same thing, haha.
Dear ANet staff,
There is indeed a little ‘favorites’ feature one can use to keep track of what dyes they use most/favor towards but I would further appreciate a tiny search option whereby you simply type in the name of the dye (e.g; Iron) and it automatically finds/highlights that dye for you.
Why? …When you own all dyes in the game and merely want to look for a specific one you know the NAME of but can’t quite find hue-wise it’s a bother to find. I may not know them well enough by their oh-so-similar shades yet I know their names and the nice effects they have on certain armor.
..Feel free to discuss this topic. Would you like a feature that’s easier to track down specific dyes?
They already force-fed us APs for Twice Told Legend. This…. collection idea… reward no APs if someone collects all leggies and people will complain that they weren’t rewarded with any APs, or, as others have already stated.. implement the APs and the hunters will complain of it being ridiculous/grindy/too difficult etc.
Honestly wouldn’t care if it rewarded APs or not; a simple ‘one title to rule them all’ deems fit enough for this kind of collection. I don’t have many idea(s) on this kind of topic that would make it a win-win scenario for all players.
There again the goal would be to avoid the Black Lion Collection & Twice Told Legend situation, but i do think having a Legendary Collection would give people something to look forward to in the mid/long run “One day i’ll have that cool Title/Effect!” type of thing.
Agreed on the fact that it should be a thing to look forward to. Too many people sour when it comes to things they cannot achieve/obtain quickly or easily. Life isn’t supposed to be easy.

Brace yourselves.
- I like the Ambient Killer daily that people must do and smile when I murder innocent little animals except I do not kill the raccoons because they’re too cute
- I generally ‘buy my way’ in this game because I have the resources/job to do so
- I regret deleting my very first toon (Charr ranger) which was more than eligible for the birthday blaster thing literally 2 days before that content was released
- I stubbornly join dungeon parties that state “exp 80s” even if I don’t know the path because I want to learn along the way and hope I look like I know what I’m doing
- I never gamble irl (pokies etc) yet I gamble on this game (BLCs, ToT bags etc)
- I used to level toons the normal way via exploring, hearts etc but now I simply craft them to about 40 or what not then use tombs from BLCs to finish the job
- I always carry 2 sets of armor/trinkets on my toons as people often ask for “zerkers only” during dungeon runs
- Engineer is the class I used to absolutely hate playing but now it’s my favorite
- Despite having these toons at 80 I am utterly hopeless at playing an Ele and Necro because I have no idea what I should be doing but more so because I did not level them the normal way therefore I don’t have experience with the class(s) from scratch
- I did not like Sylvari at first but now most of my toons are Sylvari
- I have an instant impulse to equip any new toons with max slot bags (18/20)
- I am extremely stubborn when it comes to achieving things in this game and will try any means to achieve said goal even if it’s costly
- I dislike it when people insist on you joining their guild when you’re tagless
- I have always been a giver of gifts when it comes to online games; if someone needs a specific item that’s not too costly or if I have a spare I will send it to them and expect nothing more than a simple thanks
- I admit to buying the Marriner’s Horn just so I can walk around as a naked Charr in random, populated zones and relentlessly spam all the notes right next to people
- I hoard things in this game and soon complain I am out of bank space yet cease to remove said ‘useless’ but interesting items
- I salvage everything. Everything. EVERYTHING.
Yepp. And more.. so much more.
EDIT: Oh, just one more thing:
- Doesn’t matter what you’re doing. Doesn’t matter where you’re standing… at world bosses I will spam Bottomless Belcher’s Bluff Kits all over the place. All over the place. ALL OVER THE PLACE… followed by some good old Jar of Harpy Pheromones.

Ehh, they’re interesting but agreed with Djinn; quite monotonous. Although some can give off an interesting effect combined with legendary effects etc.
These things have a cringe-worthy drop rate as others have stated. Already got the mini ghost pup after 5k bags but then I snagged one of these, orange, at around 12k bags (image below).
So far I’ve opened 5000/50,000 bags. Nearing the 5000th bag I got ONE Zuzu.
People weren’t joking when it physically hurts to click so much.. uhg. I’ll be opening them in lots (5k at a time) but it’ll be over the process of a few days as I’m working quite a lot this week.
Hoping to snag a Gwynefyrdd… heck, how do you even pronounce that word? Haha.
Welsh
Goo – unn – eh – feerthOf course, this is from a company that uses Gaelic names for one of its races and makes no attempt to pronounce those correctly. So just call it Bob.
Ah, that helps a bit, thanks! As with many other words each person pronounces them a bit differently.. so this one will take some time to get used to haha.
On a side note – My hand hurts but Gwynefyrdd finally decided to show up after 8000/50,000 bags. Still gonna’ open the rest. Asc mats are good to have in stock.
Agreed with others though; it’d be nice to at least gift doubles of this mini to guildies/friends and such who haven’t had the chance to snag one themselves if ANet made it trade-able.
I just noticed the buffs stack on this item. They start out at 15 minutes each… in a matter of minutes I got 2+ hrs worth of a few of the buffs. I’d say worth it.
Snagged this as soon as it was released.
From merely 5 minutes of spam-clicking this item I noticed the buffs start out at 15 minutes each… but they stack. So I’m guessing I can keep spamming this and get 8 hrs worth of, say, for example – the WvW buff? Maybe more…
…feel free to discuss this new item. Do you think it’s worth the gems?
(Below is a screenshot of the buffs I’ve got from using this item)
EDIT: The picture failed to show my cursor hovering over the WvW experience buff which was sitting at just over 2 hours. That in a matter of minutes.
EDIT #2: Fixed title.
Update: Indeed, the WvW buff is the most common one so far.

Sometimes when I rocket-boot off ledges (big or small) it classes it as a heavy fall (sometimes taking damage) and my character gets stuck in what looks like a frozen ‘face-plant’ animation. You can literally move/jump around stuck in that position and it’s awkward as heck.. only way to get out of it as I recall is using/doing something that will break you out of the position?
But yes, as others have mentioned I do quite frequently find my character randomly spazzing out when using the skill and ending up somewhere else, generally backwards.
Also, I’m not sure if this can be classed as a bug or not but more often than not when I use the skill off a ledge it sort of snap-freezes 75% of the way which makes it feel as if I didn’t get the distance out of the intended jump. Only sometimes does it make a smooth transition which covers a nice distance.
I hope they look into this and fix it.
Agreed with Astral, but lately I find the same color dye may not look the same on a different piece of gear/material/metal.. So if I like Pyre dye for example and it doesn’t look the same on other bits as I like to mix and match then I’ll go with, say, Flare or what not to bring up to the same vibrancy/color.
But in general:
1. Abyss
2. Celestial
3. Cyanide
4. Blood
5. Steel
I’m just going by what current dyes I run on my toons.. And believe me – when you have all dyes unlocked your first thought will be.. For example… “Ohh which green should I use?”. For realz. Great thread btw~
I admit to using this spot when someone else showed me how to get up there. If I spawn near SW corner then yes, I generally try to hide there. Villagers can get up there quite easily if you’ve done it many times and know how/where to jump from. My personal experience with it has led me to use the following method as it is most successful: standing on the top-most rubble jutting out I jump out but quick as lightning turn my character around mid-air so that I land facing the cliff. It’s a bit like getting up on that platform everyone so swiftly flocks to during the Fire Elemental boss fight.
From personal experience, being the victim of dying to ghost(s) up there, yes – ghosts can get up there. I myself have not been able to jump up there as a ghost but I’ve witnessed and seen others do it either by knowledge or simply getting lucky on a jump/dodge-roll-jump.
People claim this spot is out of bounds/un-reachable.. If it’s that hard then great praise goes to the asura Mesmer I noticed hiding ON TOP of the massive cliff at NE corner one night. (The place where people hide behind NE cliff ledge). At the time I was hiding on the top-most branch of the tree at NE ledge, went to look down if any friendlies were hiding behind the ledge yet to my surprise this guy somehow was perched on the cliff.. Could only see half of him but was still able to click on him. From what I recall that game I noticed someone jumping from the other tree at NE, onto the white rubble building and then jump-dodge-rolling somewhere towards the cliffs… How he got up there is absolutely beyond me and I tried to do the same thing only to be greeted by invisible barriers on basically every cliff-face.
Anyway, just about everyone and their mum’s brown dog knows about that hiding spot and if not, they soon will.

Dear ANet staff,
I have always wanted a mini cat but alas, fabulous Chauncey is a costly 75 laurels and the Orange Tabby Cat is only obtainable via GW1 tasks/achievements so I’m left with no other options but to stick with the mini kittens (White, Orange & the newly released Zuzu).
However, throughout the land of Tyria is this gray cat NPC… I’m sure many players have seen it mostly in villages/starting zones (LA, QD etc). Since it’s model is already present and no doubt the same/similar to Chauncey/Orange Tabby Cat I would like to request that ANet turn it into a miniature. Yes, I would pay gems for it if so. ANet. Please. Take my money. Please give us a mini gray cat, not a kitten. An actual cat.
EDIT: Fixed some typing errors, posted pictures of said NPC (below).
..Feel free to discuss this topic. Would you like to see this gray cat as a mini?
Yours sincerely,
Zephyra

Ok, guys. Some of you are unhappy about this change, I can see that. BUT… quite honestly, most of you are sort of (I hate to use the word) ranting (sorry!) instead of offering suggestions.
I assure you, the team leader told me not 15 minutes ago, they will listen to suggestions.
- Does that mean you get everything you want? Probably not.
- Does that mean you should suggest something? Yes, of course! Because they’re expecting player input.
So you want lower increments? Think it through and present a suggestion! You want XYZ in the interface? Post that idea. You would rather see something else? Post what you think about that other thing. Please don’t get into the whole “I’m going to kick the devs and their little dogs, too” because it’s not doing you or us any good at all.
I’m not here to apologize. I’m here to communicate and right now, the communication is coming in without a whole lot of substance. Over to you for suggestions and constructive input!
Put in an option to manually exchange gold for X amount of gems and vice versa
Done.
No more putting in X gold to get the amount of gems you want and so it won’t confuse players. I want to exchang my 100 gems for gold, fine, just type it in and when you wanna get gems for your gold, fine, just type in how much gems you want. Profit.
This. Logged in today and was looking everywhere for an option to convert X amount of gems to gold… nothing. Not anymore. I too suggest that be brought back. If it’s not broken don’t fix it.
“Fixed exchange amounts have been set to simplify the exchange process and remove confusing rounding points.”
I have never seen a single soul complain about ‘confusing rounding points’. I am quite sure I’m not the only one who agrees that the exchange system was absolutely fine before this update.
They are asking for suggestions for improvement? I have played many games over the past few years. Many of the devs had the courtesy/common sense to inform their player base of specific updates via polls/forum posts etc that ‘will’ be taking place in X amount of time…
..I suggest before launch if they have everything ready post a forum subject about said improvements/updates that way players are informed of these and are free to add their ideas/motives/suggestions before hell breaks loose, or, at the very least.. to hopefully have their ideas implemented and lessen the scar this inevitably shrewd update will leave.
I had to look at this in-game to believe it.. I for one rarely play humans but I have a female and she’s a warrior. The ‘missing’ idle animations from what I remember consisted of her stretching up, appearing all ditsy in la-la land with the fairies or something of like which seemed totally off-putting for a woman clad in heavy armor. Not only that but it had quite the number of clipping involved, that shoulder armor. Ouch.
I’m actually half glad those are gone, missing, whatever you wish to call it but I do understand other’s when it comes to ‘dumbing down’ or making things apparently ‘less sexual’ and neglecting to replace said animations with acceptable, updated ones.
Hopefully ANet will implement something fresh, new, decent.
Just curious as I’ve never seen this NPC or played much of the TA dungeon. What color are her eyes in-game/cut-scenes (if any)?

Even if it’s temporarily.
Agreed.
After being away for months on end and logging in for the first time in ages I saw these in the Gem Store. Didn’t think anything of them as I wasn’t aware of what’s been happening with the LS. Boy do I regret not buying them. They are some really nice skins and I would love it if ANet re-releases these again. Please. Anet. Take my money. Now.
ANet, take my money. Seriously. I would honestly snatch up the following items in an instant if you released them and/or re-released these:
~ DEVIL HORNS
Hell yeah. In the bank where all view-able skins for gear/weapons there are Devil Horns. I hope ANet releases these for Halloween 2014. I have never seen a player in-game with these things anyway so where are they?
~ BUNNY EARS
Enough said. They are hilariously cute.
~ AVIATOR SUNGLASSES and all the sunglasses from previous year(s) that were ‘discontinued’ that other players have already mentioned.
Why did they remove these from the Gem Store? Is it because Aviators in general ’don’t fit’ with the whole medieval-magic theme of Guild Wars?.. who knows. They’re still cool.
~ BOX OF CHOCOLATES
~ BOUQUET OF ROSES
~ WORLD 1 SUPER BOOM BOX
~ WORLD 2 SUPER BOOM BOX
I’ve obviously missed out on these from some time ago but I am a total sucker for Toys. They’re extremely fun!
So please, ANet, bring these items back! Take our money for the love of Tyria.
