I know better. They already said Cantha and Elona are a no. Might as well forget about them.
kitten RNG. The expansion is going to be a godsend with it’s ability to acquire precursors in a way other than being at the mercy of RNG.
Not no, but kitten the hell no. Go to sPvP if you want to fight against other players. Or you can go to EotM or W3. There is no need for open world PvP at all. It serves no purpose whatsoever. There are enough kitten measuring contests as it is, and this blatant ego stroking is completely unnecessary. Next you’ll be saying you want mounts and for waypoints to go away and a gear treadmill and having to walk a ghost to your corpse to respawn instead of simply using a waypoint.
Remember: not no, but kitten the hell no.
Additionally, you can spam stuns, like I do with my stun lock build. It’s pretty fun, especially against other players. They can’t do anything. Stun after stun after interrupt after stun, with a few dazes thrown in as well.
You know what would be a great idea? If that golem in the staging area sold fractal weapons for lots of pristine relics. I know I know, it’s a shame I’m not NCSoft’s largest shareholder or Mike O’Brien. I’d make this happen if I could. Sorry, everyone, you’ll have to settle with the likelihood that you will NEVER get the fractal skin you want.
It might be cool if the aoe circles and mouse pointers would invert the colors of the terrain beneath them. They would never be invisible no matter what at that point.
I’ll need to see how this plays out… I’m still not a fan of Nexon being NCSoft’s largest shareholder, but hopefully Nexon ducks out so the price of NCSoft’s stock falls so I can buy more for less.
Oh, please, no. You do realize, that the mobs use control effects as well? Do you really want to extend fear at first phase of Claw of Jormag, for example, seeing as it’s already way too long and used way too often?
To be fair, you can avoid ALL the fears without stability and proper use of the rocket launcher skill 5, no matter how many consecutive times he does it.
The same reason ArenaNet made the NPE: some people don’t understand the concept of a scroll wheel to zoom out.
If you can kill it fast enough, you don’t need much in the defense department. Skill and an understanding of boss fight mechanics helps a lot, too. Naturally, full berserker is the best way to go for the best damage. It’s perfect the way it is.
If you are that conflicted about whether or not to play a game, then really you’re just saying you don’t want to play. So don’t. Don’t play. If you are not enjoying the game don’t play. It is only a game, which is ultimately nothing more than a form of entertainment, and logically speaking, a waste of time. One day the servers will be shut down, and all your efforts will cease to exist. The only thing that remains are memories of good times. So don’t play if you are not enjoying it. Clearly you don’t. Give it another try if you are curious, but don’t force yourself. At least there is no monthly fee that you have to use to justify playing a game you don’t want to play.
I’m on the same boat as many others: cutesy weapons like The Dreamer and Kudzu are not my cup of tea, but the solution is so simple: use a much better looking weapon. Personally I went with the frost bow skin, but that’s just me. There are so many other skins out there to enjoy. You can’t tell me there are no ‘male’ or ‘different’ or ‘more serious’ weapon skins. There are no legendary bows that look good, but you also don’t have to make a legendary, either. There is only one legendary worth making, and that’s The Flameseeker Prophecies. The rest are not very good. Avoid Kudzu/Dreamer if you want, it’s so easy to just use a different weapon skin that looks way better.
Not sure if this has been mentioned, but have you tried messing with the keybindings? You can set the numerous keys to whatever is easier for you. In consoles it’s called ‘button config’. I’m guessing you aren’t used to playing games on a PC and too accustomed to console games and their limited button options. It takes practice. I remember when I first started playing PC games. I felt overwhelmed by the number of buttons I could press. After a while though I got used to it. THe first time I played a shooter on the PC I was like “OMG the camera moves too much! The slightest movement of my mouse moves my cursor like crazy!” Now, years later, I can’t go back to consoles… It’s just not as fun for me. I feel like you are in the minority, but with ArenaNet catering more to casual gamers it’s not surprising that more console gamers are starting to get their feet wet in the realm of PC gaming. That adjustment period is a must, though. It’s what sets apart good players from bad ones. Don’t be a bad player. Practice. Learn. Adapt. I did it, so can you.
It’s just an anomaly of how the skill functions. Yes, you lose targeting and any attack besides that channeled one will miss. However, if you are talking about non-targeted skills hitting you, then it’s probably that you are just in the trajectory. If you are invisible, and someone is firing in a straight line, and you happen to be standing in the line of fire, you will get hit. Invisibility is not the same as not existing and thus can’t be hit. If you walk into the line of fire while in stealth, you will get hit. You can always take damage even while in stealth. It’s why you see melee users swing wildly while fighting someone in stealth.
If you are talking about rapid fire and going into stealth after the player started channeling the skill, then yeah it will keep hitting. Channeled skills will track you in stealth if you enter stealth while it is being channeled.
No UI, naked, no trinkets, no skill points used, no trait points used, only weapon allowed is the weapon you started with at creation, no food, no boosts, no nourishment, no events, no personal story, no W3, no dungeons, no tomes/scrolls or writs. You are only allowed to get xp from killing random creatures in the world. If you get xp from an event (with exception of the opening events in the starting instance upon character creation) you lose and must delete your character. You may gather, no crafting, and you cannot run or waypoint. You must walk everywhere (toggle walk). After reaching level 80 you do a happy naked dance in Vinewrath’s lair, and that’s how you win. Eat your heart out, WoW fanboys.
That’s not an exploit, that’s just a good use of regular game mechanics. It happened a lot in GW1 with so many different skills available: eventually there were some skill use combinations that were nothing like what the developers imagined was possible (55 monks and necros, anyone?) It’s the same as the feedback trick with the jungle worm in Caledon forest. It’s not an exploit, really, just an unplanned/unintended possible combination of certain skills and mechanics.
Opening the final karka chest on a character that isn’t level 80. Everyone else got precursors, I got low level rares and exotics.
That makes two. Move-to-target is another option that was available in the beta client but not the live client. I miss it.
I’m starting to wish they had a block feature on these boards too.
There’s something that is good enough: remember the name, then pretend the owner does not exist. Scroll past their posts, do not read anything they say, even if it is aimed at you directly. Do not acknowledge their existence, do not feed the troll, do not give in to their click/comment bait. It’s not as useful as a block feature, but it does the trick. Be like me.
While I am a proponent of not dictating how other people should spend their money, I can only offer them this: your loss, because you get what you pay for. I have no sympathy for those who do not wish to pay the price for a product/service while the rest of us do, then turn around and complain that they are not being catered to. The non-expansion content will likely take a backseat since it is, for the most part, fleshed out to the point that it doesn’t need significant attention.
I’m probably going to try to quickly finish the one that allows me to tear off my enemies’ defenses (like hard bark) so I can give them the full taste of my fury and rage. I have lots of 20k Eviscerates to hand out, and they deserve the full deal! No discounts for them! Why short change my foes with only 10k Eviscerates? That’s not good enough. A full 20k!
So keep doing what I’ve already been doing. Got it.
And this is my queue to do what I do best.
(Clears throat)
Most players have already pointed out the obvious solution that was already in place long before GW2 even existed: the block feature.
Since this is obviously not a good enough solution for you and instead want ArenaNet to waste time/money/resources on a completely unnecessary feature, I propose another easy (and cheap) solution to you, OP. Get your notebook out, this is very complex but feasible stuff.
See the pixels on your screen that make up these words that you are reading? Harmless. You can look at them all you want, read them over and over (out loud if you are so inclined), and no matter what they cannot hurt you unless you allow them to.
Now, take exhibit A: typical hater troll player says something along the lines of “Your mother was a hampster!” or “You are ugly and should disappear” or even “NOOB! Learn to play!” At this point you can block the player and you will never see anything they type ever again. But you already read it, you are scarred! Woe is you! The world is a cruel place, and maybe you really are worthless… NOT!
Not so fast! Enter exhibit B: me. Any player in this game can say anything they want about me, and I mean anything. No matter what they say, their words have no power over me. They have no power over me. They will never find me in real life, and even if they did I would just end them if they gave me reason to. Do you know why they are all powerless against me? Because I CHOOSE to not take offense to ANYTHING that ANY of them say. It’s that easy. It is a choice to be offended. Be like me, choose thick skin and self-esteem. I am kittening awesome, and you can be too if only you stop giving mere words more power than they deserve. Take back the power you gave them over you!
3237 over 895 days. 0 precursors.
I did a little math. Unless my math is wrong (which it usually isn’t but hey I’m only human) it seems more profitable to sell in bulk rather than numerous small quantities, but not by much. If you are talking in small quantities and small prices (say 4 silver for each individual item or 40 silver for a bundle of 10), you will see a difference of maybe 1 copper. But if you are dealing with large quantities and/or large prices, the difference will obviously be more.
Again, not by a lot, but selling in bulk seems more profitable than selling the same quantity in multiple smaller bundles.
All these replies and not one of you seem to bring up the fact that you can buy custom amounts of gems with in-game gold. There’s nothing wrong with buying gems with real money. OP, you can use your left over gems from your purchase to buy something else in the gem store, and if you are just short of the next item you’d like to purchase you can buy the last few gems with in-game gold.
You can buy your 2000 gems with real money, then buy the last 100 you need with in-game gold. Currently it would cost you 13.34.97 gold to get 100 gems.
I would, in the form of an expansion. Locking specific playable content behind a pay wall is a terrible idea from a player’s perspective (but obviously a great business decision). These dungeons would surely produce their own bits of unique items, so anyone who doesn’t buy in will miss out on that exclusive content. That is not fair. They already kind of do this in the form of LS chapters if you don’t log in at the appropriate time, and personally I don’t like it. But I digress, ArenaNet is a business. They’ll do whatever their business model requires.
Ah, Elite Kurzick armor, the good ’ol days.
As opposed to the plentiful threads some have posted about how Anet’s destroyed PVP, WvW and PvE?
Congratulations, you’ve (almost) identified that some people are like that. I’m quite firmly convinced that RP communities don’t have an exclusive claim on drama-queening doomsayers though.
Enjoy your bread.
The funny thing is, ‘dead’ is entirely subjective. You’re right, though. Like the RP community, the sPvP/W3/PvE communities all have their fair share of doomsayers (and I treat them all equally to the same disdain I do here). The difference is that sPvP, W3, and PvE actually matter to the game. They could make it so the game has 0 emotes and did not have the ability to walk and the game would be just as playable as it is now.
My overall point in this whole thing remains: the OP’s suggestions are not needs for the game, they’re just nice extras (keyword is nice, not necessary). PvP/W3/PvE being core components of the game, the issues in those aspects of the game certainly qualify as needs for the game.
That market is under no obligation whatsoever to give satisfy the particular needs of such a small customer base. They can try, and they might not succeed, but the main focus of their business will always come first.
Give us more GW 1 weapon and armor skins. COPY/PASTE ALREADY!!!!
I’d wager that the number of people who want recycled GW1 content is also small.
Not as small as you’d think, but at least I understand that they are under no obligation to do what I would like. ArenaNet will do what their business plan dictates regardless of what you or I give as input. They might consider our suggestions, but they don’t have to. My signature is old, and I don’t really pay attention to it. I’m surprised anyone else did.
Your sneering disdain is noted.
Get a load of this smug character, folks. So very pleased that others don’t get nice things.
I wish I got nice things. Though, to be fair, I don’t go to a clothing store and ask to buy bread.
Your analogy isn’t apt, I fear. Someone would have to be utterly moronic and dissociated from reality in its entire to suppose they might find bread in a clothing store.
Finding RP in an MMORPG? Well, one’s not exactly straining credulity to envision that, in a fantasy game, some might like the fantasy, and that in a game with lore and story, some might wax imaginative in who their characters are and what they’re about in this fanciful world of fireballs and evil dragons.
No, I fear your analogy is merely an extension of your sneering disdain with not so much as a single thread connecting it to relevance. You presume it to be as absurd as, statedly, looking to buy bread in a clothing store.
All you really do is provide demonstrable evidence of your own complete and total failure to comprehend any perspective other than your own upon it.
Fine, I’ll give you another analogy.
Looking for the RP support being asked in this thread from GW2 is like going into an ‘ethnic market’ and not being able to find a specific brand of a product (let’s say a bottle of a specific hot sauce or seasoning). You’ve seen the product in other ethnic markets, but somehow because this particular market doesn’t have the specific thing you are looking for, it is suddenly a horrible market that is out to specifically exclude you. It’s a conspiracy, I tell you! That market is under no obligation whatsoever to give satisfy the particular needs of such a small customer base. They can try, and they might not succeed, but the main focus of their business will always come first. RP is not the main focus of this game.
There have been other threads where RPers go so far as to say things like “this is an attack by ArenaNet on the RP community”. That is how ridiculous the RP community can be. I’m too lazy to go look up those threads again because they are old, but do feel free to search for them if you’re so inclined.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to go buy some bread.
Your sneering disdain is noted.
Get a load of this smug character, folks. So very pleased that others don’t get nice things.
I wish I got nice things. Though, to be fair, I don’t go to a clothing store and ask to buy bread.
The BL trading tax is absurd. Still, it’s a whole lot better than getting ripped off.
For a moment there you almost sounded like ‘revolutionary patriot’ from America’s early days. That blasted tea tax…
I honestly don’t see how these are things the game NEEDS. I think you are confusing needs with desires. Needs are things that must be adhered to or else there will be irreversible consequences. Desires are things that would be nice to have but you can totally get by without them.
As it has been pointed out already countless times in numerous other posts, the RP community is small and very niche. To have ArenaNet divert resources to these kinds of unnecessary extras instead of things that actually matter to the majority of the player base and the actual game itself (like bug fixes and new content to play through) would be a real disservice to the game.
I’m not saying don’t RP, but please don’t try to make it sound like the RP community is the most significant portion of the player base, because it’s far from it.
I have had 0 issues with the megaserver, absolutely none. It works and it is very easy to get into the zones with my friends/party/guild. Calling your server to arms is laughable. Not everyone in a server cares to play W3, and they are under no obligation to do so.
To want to ‘opt out’ of core features of the game like the megaservers or dynamic events is just ridiculous… next you’ll be asking that characters have no skill bar or health indicator, or to have all the weapon/armor skins in the game automatically unlocked so they can RP with their shiny equipment.
Really, this whole thing is coming off as wanting to take the game out of the game and turn it into nothing more than a glorified chat room with interactive avatars . There are things out there that provide a much better medium for RP than this game. Try Second Life, or IMVU, or the Sims, or whatever other site community you can find in the darkest and strangest corners of the internet. Those ‘games’ are designed specifically for what you are wanting. GW2 is not. Why else would they get rid of town clothes and made it so you couldn’t mix and match outfits or costumes? ArenaNet probably realizes that the RP community is not really worth the effort of catering to. Why would they spend so much time/money/resources/manpower coding and programming unnecessary extras that only a small percentage of the player base will actually buy in to (emphasis on buy)?
OPs suggestions are not needs for the game, they are just the desires of a niche group of people who masquerade as players of the game. But alas, you are paying customers of ArenaNet so you are at least allowed to voice your complaints, just as I’m allowed to point out the obvious.
I’m hoping for a lot of serious weapons that are elegant but still kind of flashy, like the predator or flameseeker prophecies.
Also hoping the greatsword isn’t gigantic.
I too can’t stand greatswords in-game that are an oversized mess. There’s a difference between a very large sword that looks stylish (think Foefire’s Essence) and looking like some cartooney, disproportionate mess like almost everything in WoW. There are only two such weapons outside of the game that are ok, and that’s Cloud’s Buster Sword from FFVII and Guts’ massive piece of steel he uses as a sword in Berserk.
I have The Flameseeker Prophecies, and it is a fantastic legendary. It’s so good that it never received a visual upgrade, unlike most legendaries, and it doesn’t need one.
No. Armor types are locked to the light/medium/heavy classes. It’s not like Rift where plate armor uses (warriors) can use the mail/leather/cloth armors. My warrior in Rift uses the armor skin of a cloth user because I think it looks nice. My mage in that game cannot wear anything other than cloth, even as a skin.
Hey thanks for the heads up. I’ve been thinking of buy one of those.
There is more money to be made by enticing the majority of the players to keep forking over money to buy gems to buy keys for a chance at something they will likely never get than having those same players pay a one-time fee for the same item.
Over-time profit is better than one short spike in profit. NCSoft’s shareholders need to see a steady flow of income for the game to keep their investments sound. If they only see sporadic spikes, it is seen as too uncertain and not a good investment. THAT is the driving point. The in-game economy takes a backseat in this regard.
This is going to sound crazy, but I have this thing called Winamp. It is a music player on my computer that plays all my favorite music from my collection. It has all the variety I need. Supposedly there is a way to customize the music that plays in-game with music from your own collection, but I’d rather just use my standalone music player.
Alternatively, you can suggest that ArenaNet remove combat music all together and just keep the base ambient music that is constantly playing in the world. Some might say “But how will you know you are in combat!?” and to them I say “Is your health dropping? Are you moving at half speed? Do you see the red border around your world map? You’re getting killed, yo!”
It’s a trap! This is a mounts post in disguise! Don’t trust it!
No no no no no!
Just read my signature.
Well, this is all very disappointing. I thought the continuation of the thread title was going to be ‘…does it take to change a lightbulb?’
You too, eh? But hey, there’s no reason we can’t derail this thread in that direction. :P
So how many revenants….
does it take to get to the tootsie roll center of a tootsie pop?
Until I see precursors drop back down to just after Karka event levels, I see no problem here. Triple digits are still triple digits.
Ok, I used it on oakhearts, dredge towers, gates, siege, various random enemies, zone bosses and guess what, it hit every time! No more running in place and not striking, no more running past enemies and hitting nothing.
So yeah, thank you for finally fixing Rush. Some 2+ years in the making (coding must be harder to get right than I thought), but thank you very much. Now if you’ll all excuse me, I’ve got things to chase down and lay the smack down on. WHEEEEEEE!!!!!
So OP, you played one other MMO that happened to have this so called ‘trinity’, and you think that somehow because this game does not have it, it’s bad?
That’s like saying Battlefield is a bad FPS game because it has tactical use of military vehicles while Call of Duty is superior because it doesn’t. Your whole thing here is entirely subjective and gives zero reasons for any change. Simply saying “That other game has this, so this game sucks because it doesn’t have that” is cause for your post to be completely overlooked and dismissed.
Do research, bring up valid points, give reasons, show ArenaNet WHY they should consider such an unnecessary game mechanic. ArenaNet has already given PLENTY of reasons not to, so you have your work cut out for you.
Ball is in your court.
As for the rest of you, play whatever you want. If you don’t like zerker, don’t play zerker. It’s so simple. If you want to play a support role, by all means play it and have fun. Who gives a kitten what other players think? They didn’t pay for your copy of the game. Play whatever the hell you want.
How the hell is Scarlet not a villain? She went insane, and sought only to watch the entire world burn.
Scarlet is no hero, and Lion’s Arch deserved a better class of villain.
Do keep in mind that RP was something that the community created, not ArenaNet. It’s like saying that GvG received a relentless assault from ArenaNet just because they never actually condoned two guild zergs clashing in W3 to make pseudo GvG. The game was not really designed with these things in mind. There’s no need to take it personal.
I like Tybalt as much as anyone else. He was a very likeable character, but to make him a summon for the revenant would be outrageous. There are FAR MORE iconic characters throughout Tyria’s history (including my GW1 characters). Tybalt made a great sacrifice, but it pales in comparison to what some other characters in the lore did. Personally I’d rather see Gwen than Tybalt, and Gwen isn’t even as iconic as, say, Master Togo, Shiro, Varesh Ossa, Justicar Hablion, or Jora.
