Cosmetic only grinds can only hold for so long, this isn’t surprising nor all that bad.
So instead of adding a new tier of gear, they are making the current top tier – which is still not that common – more powerful?
All the while branding the “we have no gear treadmill” slogan?
It depends on how you look at things, that’s what they’re playing off of saying that slogan.
There kind of is a grind getting the ascended gear… (and ofc some people will argue otherwise…)(and I will just leave this post by colin here)
At the same time, each release of say the living story/feature patch doesn’t introduce a new tier of gear to grind for again. Which means no gear grind…
So, pretty sure they’re going off of “we’re not constantly adding new tiers of gear, so there isn’t a grind for gear” as opposed to “there is no grind in getting max tier of gear”.

I like mine better:
Yeah, I will use your’s from now on.
Counterception.
You do realize that is a birth control term right?
You’re thinking of Contraception.
Trust me, both terms are interchangeable. If not, look it up.
“Counterception” as a word doesn’t exist. It is mainly use by people mispronouncing “Contraception”.
They can’t be interchangeable if one of them isn’t even a proper word. You can exchange an actual word with a fake word.
There’s no such thing as “fake word”.
Except for supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.
Wait… nvm it was added to Oxford English Dictionary in 1986…
Yes i think we will get this stick right in the a…. , because some “lucky” profession will get traps for specialization and it will be probably us….
Would not be surprised at all. Wonder if we will be “lucky” enough to get a torch off-hand as opposed to a rifle or greatsword.
To increase diversity by reducing the number of traits and means of selecting them.
#AnetLogic
…
Yeah, not sure why game companies are doing this, dumbing down skill systems, but I (as a gamer) feel a bit insulted…
The other thing is, besides doing that to the traits… More than likely, all the weapons sets will still function fundamentally the same, a P/D will still probably stack bleeds/conditions, a S/D will still be stirpping boons/evading, D/P will still be trying to backstab, and so on… Since they haven’t added the ability to pick and choose skills for each weapon… So, really the only fresh build we will be getting is the one that will be using the torch/rifle/greatsword (whichever we’re “lucky” or “unlucky” to get).

You’re wrong, they serve the greatest purpose of all. To communicate the fact that folks are dissatisfied. That’s -all- they need to know. Constructive critisism is unecessary. I don’t get payed by arena net to propose solutions or make analyses of the parts of the game that don’t work. I’m the consumer. It’s not my job to be constructive. I -only- have to say that this is a problem for me. The rest is their job. All we have to do is express our concerns. And obviously we’d like our problems to be addressed. It’s the job of the consumer. As for the official recognition. That’s arena net’s choice. But eventually disatisfied customers go away. How they want to handle them is up to them obviously.
Most of the negative people around here already say the most important thing, they don’t like something. Non constructive critisism is the only critisism that can take place, since it’s not our job to solve the game’s problems for free. If that’s poisoning the dialogue in the community then they need to solve the problems faster, address them in the forums and produce positive results. All of the concerns are legitimate. If someone doesn’t like something, then he doesn’t like it, and it’s a very legitimate concern. Anet, or you, can’t tell people what they have the right to complain about or not. What matters in the end is the volume that each complaint is getting. That’s why we need folks to keep complaining about stuff. So they can gauge what are the most pressing issues with their customers.
In reference to the bolded, how is Anet supposed to know what you feel is wrong with something if you don’t let them know?
Anet: So you’ve said this is what’s wrong with it and this is how we’ll change it.
Consumer: Nope. I’m still not happy with it.
Anet: Like this?
Consumer: Nope. I’m still not happy with it.
Anet: What about this?
Consumer: Nope. I’m still not happy with it. Screw it, I’m going to another game.
Can you see the issue?
Such a “consumer” can’t be bothered with, because whichever game they go to they will most likely complain that the dev’s aren’t listening in that game.
God… I could have sworn this has been brought up in the past…
O well, I guess it’s new people coming to the forums.
Actually in sr it removes 1 cond every 3 secs, not sure what are you talking about
Just watched it remove 5 condis while thief stood in it.
And you’re 100% sure he wasn’t shotting through some sort of a combo-field (the one that removes conditions when shot through, light?)? Or other factors outside of SR…?
Doubt this will work since people won’t listen or actually do the idea…
For what it’s worth I don’t play at all. Maximum flip things on TP.
Let’s instead least everything considered not cheesy.
Done.
The role of a thief in WvW is to be either useless and/or a loot bag.
Serious answer though:
be relatively useless – just trolling people and at most (in terms of usefulness) picking off people running …
You could also flip …sentries … that’s useful a bit.You could be slightly more useful if you …run away. how useful … because you can run away better than other classes. Fighting is wasting time … and you risk dieing (meaning you will have to walk back/restart, losing time …).
So really, you do ……
flippingbouncing to be useful.;-)
Right….
Oh and pets stand directly on top of the thief at all times. Kind of like a giant arrow pointing down at the thief when in stealth.
grenade kit. bomb kit.
thiefineer.
4eva.Or turrets… So we could have a stealth bunker build… drop all turrets and stealth
Can you imagine if they make all traps a kit? Just like how Engi have a kit for bombs.
I would rather not…
The current traps are not so well made… Engi’s bombs are annoying though.

Serious answer though:
You (thief) can zerg, though not effectively as other classes. Though you can have fun with things like P/P, SB, maybe even S/X or whatever you like.
(Strictly solo, as in alone and without anyone to back you up)
You’re good at 1v1’ing so you roam and be relatively useless – just trolling people and at most (in terms of usefulness) picking off people running back to the zerg, though you might be doing that unintentionally.
You could also flip camps/sentries while roaming and kill dolyaks, that’s useful a bit.
You could be slightly more useful if you scouted – since you can run away relatively better than most classes, but how useful the information you provide is dependent on how well you gather information and how well the commander is able to use that information. Oh, you’re good at scouting not really because you can 1v1, but because you can run away better than other classes. Fighting is wasting time while scouting because the whole point is to gather information, and you risk dieing (meaning you will have to walk back/restart, losing time and information).
So really, you do either or a combination of scouting, roaming, flipping to be useful.

Wonder what those people that try to apply realism to games would say about this…
This is funny though. “Target too close”… that’s gold, sorry you gotta least dodge roll away from the target xD
O well!
Between all the weapons…
Rifle is probably the easiest to animate – so they will most likely go with that.
We don’t need another melee weapon, we need a 1200 ranged weapon. Either a Rifle or a GS used as ranged weapon — just Mesmers, but less butterflies and more shadows.
So Thief becoming a magical GS wielder? i hope Anet doesnt take that road, it would ruin the game.
Thief already uses magic called Shadow Arts.
So Shadow Arts is magic now???? lol ok bro.
Shadowstepping, invisibility and illusions are part of the Denial
magicArts school, it’s in the GW1 lore.
Sorry man, it’s an “Art” – totally not magic.
Katana’s please
Already in game, as a greatsword skin.
Exactly, why no thief can wield such? ^^
:D Because, we’re told to re-roll if you want to use such a weapon.

Pretty sure it is…
Don’t see anyone in real life going invisible after stabbing someone and throwing a cloak around themselves…
That and no one is jumping 1200 meters/units. Presumably by stepping through shadows… I’ve tried in real life, it doesn’t seem to work, it actually hurts if you run into a wall trying to go into the shadow…
Or signets doing anything besides being stamps that you can wear…
Or a bunch of guys popping out of NO WHERE on call (thieves guild)…
Or being able to throw down some sort of field/area that makes everyone inside invisible.
Or having a dagger bounce OFF the target and ricochet between a couple targets (some how between 3, yet not being stabbed into any one of them)
Or boons that are able to regenerate you back to health after you’ve taken multiple slashes from the sword, possibly a couple from an axe here and there, maybe a couple arrows, and possibly limbs missing – but yeah boon of regeneration, get’s you back to brand new!
Yeah, pretty sure it’s all magic.
But you’re right, let’s apply some “real life logic/reasoning” and say no to having any more magical crap added to the thief. If you look that way, so even Warriors uses magic then, they can recover from damage, morph on a brute, and carry weapons bigger than their body with super speed.
Everything is magical in this game. Ohhh.. thats it!!! its a game! almost forgot! :P
Resuming, what i wanted to say is… leave the “non-magical” classes untouched by the fancy ideia of making’em with magic skills.
Classic RPG.
Okay, let’s go by your book.
The GS will use “Shadow Arts” to create shadowy greatswords. Or… Using the “Shadow Arts” the thief is able to slash shadows with the great sword from a distance… Or since it’s under “Shadow Arts”, the great sword that should weigh 8lb (or more) now weighs less than 1lb and can be swung for days because it has shadows in it.
Man and i would love to be able to pull arrows out of thin air indefinitely while doing the motion of reloading.
Maybe somewhere between now and HoT, the thief would have picked up a book somewhere on “Advance Shadow Arts” that allow you to create shadow clones or other things. Who knows….
You are right, it’s just a game… lot’s of wiggle room for what can and can happen (no, no “can’t”).

be nice to the horse Zero Day: One day you might need it
Well… it’s a dead one, and a beaten one at that too.
Won’t make any good leather, and I don’t eat meat so can’t have it as a meal either.
Not sure what it’s uses are beyond that and what people have been doing to it for the past 2 years.

FYI Stealth mechanic is the same age as all other professions mechanics.
If it was a profession mechanic…
The best build for 1 vs Many is called:
Find a Group of Baddies.
Guardian – if both are at the same “skill level” in a DUELING scenario.
All other scenarios, well, whoever got the upper-hand on whom first.
Caed – Narcarsis.5739 , is someone that’s considered to be very skilled.
From his twitch profile:
Guild Wars 2 experience:
PAX Qualifiers NA
PAX Invitational
MLG Invitational
Tournament of Legends
Tournament of Glory
ESL Go4GW2 cups
and several other smaller tournaments.
Oh another thing to note, unless you’re pro and participate in tournies, generally classes wont really matter for you since there will be people both below and above your skill. Hell there was a post back, in WvW, where 1 thief killed a group of 4 (guardian and warrior including if I recall) – really hard to say if the thief was skilled, or if the 4 just sucked badly.

Man… people get the definition of permanent correct, but seem to mess up when they try to apply it..
To be honest, I’m happy with whatever weapon we get, but it’s hard to ignore the fact that we really need a long ranged weapon, so…yeah, if not rifle, then longbow — or if Revenant can use a hammer as ranged weapon, we should be able to use GS as ranged weapon — just like Mesmers, but more shadowy/spirit-like effects.
Yes, a GS with 1200 range. I like that idea. Just to kitten every other class off even further, we will be able to chuck great swords at them from 1200 range.
I know right? If ArenaNet added a weapon set for Thieves that is not nerf worthy, then it is not worthy of Thieves.
Precisely!
Because they’re too far across the table.
Well, I’m sure QQ’ers will appreciate the template you made for them, just have to find and replace “class X” with w/e class they wish to QQ about.
Solid contribution to the (QQ’ing) community.

:D Yes! Down with the rifles and up with the Great swords!
Or longbows. Need to check if there are any sick looking recurve skins (though they’re not technically english longbows, but there might be skins for them).
But the real response to all this is:

By no means is ambush OP…
Though against badies, everything is.
I personally wouldn’t run it in WvW. Though when I do sPvP, running a condi P/D build, I do use ambush and Thieves Guild.
In combat, after say stealthing, I would plant it right under the opponents feet making it more likely that they will trip it. Once they’ve tripped it, optionally and depending on the situation I would pop TG, giving me a total of 3 minions/thieves – for some people that causes a panic, the female thiefs also use scorpion wire which is nice sometimes, the pistol thief drops BP as well… It’s mainly for that panic/confusion aspect in combat – works decently well against badies.
The other neat thing I would do with it is plant it right on the center of a point that I just cap and leave to cap another point, if the trap triggers, that means someone started back capping that point. Sometimes by chance, I would leave the trap on one point and fight at another point/location, out of nowhere a thief would appear – again adding a bit of confusion/panic for the opponent.
Basically how I’ve used that trap in sPvP.
It’s gimmicky, and not OP.
Aren’t you the same guy that wanted seductive charr outfits…?
I got rapier for my human as well. For my asura though katanas are a must. It looks really ninja like with the outfit or coe armor and the katana.
Yeah because in feudal Japan there were so many Samurai Asuras running around…
It was exactly like that, haven’t you lived back then?
No, we need to go further than just dual wielding them. Warriors need to be able to wield four greatswords at the same time. They will have to wear jetpacks to move though, because they will be using both of their arms and both of their legs to wield the weapons.
need an 5th in the mouth.
and a 6th in the butt
think i’m close here
No too freaky.
That’s cute, he hops on 1 foot… would suck if he fell…
Wait, I thought buying from RMT since launch has always been illegal? This is a new rule???
Anyway, is this specific to “Gold Sellers”, or can I still privately trade a guildy 500g in GW2 for 1000k in GW1?
It’s always been illegal…
Just now they’re going to be actively, and more so than before, enforcing it.
Well they can’t really know what’s happening in other games, nor should they correlate the two…
So, so long as your friend has been on your friends list for, say, a month and one day he decides to give you 1000k (isn’t 500g the limit? and isn’t 1000k = 1 million …) out of the blue with some sort of thing writing in the mail … then it probably should be fine. Or maybe a friend has already been giving you sums of gold in the past, so him giving you another sum should be fine… Maybe keeping tabs on how many times you’ve partied with them, if you guys are guildies…
At least that’s my guess on how things like these are detected… 500g in mail from someone that’s not even on your friends list, and the note saying “thank you for the purchase”, or someone that just added you as a friend, sent you 500g… do seem a bit suspicious…

So what I’ve learned from this thread is, “my build is hard and yours is easy.”
Yup, 100% correct.
From a QQ’er perspective it’s pretty simple:
The ones “I” play are considered to be legit and hard.
The ones “I” get beaten by are considered cheesy and OP.
It might have something to do with them being undead and their brains not functioning properly?
But yeah, don’t see why they can’t simply attack the same target the necro’s attacking, or a target the necro has pinged, or the first target that attacked the necro within a certain distance… Not much AI here as much as simple conditions.
They were parts in various videos that showed those snipers shooting from that cliff to well over the range of 1200… I doubt that will actually get implemented for the thief though.
@Zero:
Can you please refer to our earlier discussion and choose the “mature” route. I feel that if you did you could contribute something meaningful.
Barely, most of topics/themes discussed have been discussed to death already for the past ~2 years – with barely to no outcome in terms of what’s been patched in and the QQ’ing communities ability to adept, develop, and grow in a way that would benefit themselves (as in taking advice on say dodging, AoE’ing, or not standing still).
It is fun though, watching the two sides (well, not really two sides, sometimes it’s a free-for-all) bashing their heads against each other, while waiting for the “balance” patch that’s coming around the time of HoT. Hence I’m here
