The other WvW’ing maps are taken a bit more seriously, I guess.

O.K. do thieves suffer what other classes do from chill in their weapon skills? Is it not a truth that they are immune to chill’s affect on weapon skills that other classes have?

Is it not a truth that the same thing is for interrupt mechanics and how thieves also do not suffer from the same penalty for being interrupted in their weapon skills?

Those are/were questions, and worded as such. Trying to get whoever is reading to come up with an answer, hopefully one that falls in line with w/e your trying to argue.

That part is a truth too, but these are facts that thieves have immunity to these areas in their weapon skills correct?

Weird. I thought a truth is something like “thieves exist in gw2” and not “I think they should be effected by a condition”.

Actually technically, since it’s your belief, and you’ve accepted it, it is true for you. So yeah on some level you are correct. Trying to impose it as the “truth” onto other people though…

You discuss how a mechanic like stealth should not be touched because its the mechanic of thieves and its very important, yet the mechanics of other’s skills, you should be immune to because well youre thieves and its very important.

Yes, discredit me because I “play”/main the thief class. It also has nothing to do what I’ve been quoting you on. Solid.

Yeah I know, its why I backed out of the thief forums with an apology and havent returned.

Honestly, I said in this post (not really expecting some change) what I personally think should happen with thieves. I do see my own mistake complaining about thieves in the thief forum. That was rather stupid of me.

But this is the WvW forum and I was just adding a to a conversation some things that are truths personal beliefs, if it gets noticed great, if not ohh well.

Personal beliefs, should be a bit more correct.

I’m following forums/reddit (as with other things), logging in to flip and get the daily reward but that’s about it.

I was hyped during the announcing, but after the announcing when I realized there isn’t a date set (meaning, nothing is remotely close to completion), it just died instantly.

Forums are pretty fun/funny here though.

Hmm, they really seem be stretching out their news, although the summary is helpful as I admit I wasn’t able to watch the Ready Up. Maybe tomorrow (April 1st) is going to be a big day or something. That blog post still doesn’t seemingly relate to the picture teased on Monday.

Maybe it’s because they need more time to develop? Wild guess.

They do have at least 2 more months to go, assuming that when they do start talking about specs it’s 1 per week – 9 in total, so ~2 months, bit over.

Oh, there’s probably going to be more beta’s, so another couple months…

Well yes but many believe, myself included, is that they won’t reveal them all in a row and it’ll be spaced out sort of like the original profession reveals were.

Another thing to note is that they’re definitely not going to have something playable in a Closed Beta without revealing it first with a Blog Post as was done with the Revenant (blog post happened first then came the reveal in gameplay and test availability).

So with that line of thinking, and also the fact that they keep saying Closed Beta will happen really soon, means a blog about a Specialization for a specific Profession or just Specializations in more detail should come really soon hence hoping for it to appear either this week or next, hopefully.

EDIT: To add to my Revenant example. Revenant blog post was released about a month before the Stress Test occurred. Hence I’m sure they’ll space it out like this for other Specializations as well (maybe they’ll reveal two and then following CBT has those two available or something like that).

Well, I thought my way was the kittenty/long way of looking at things… But going by that it will be sometime close to next year that the game will be released. Yeah, you’re most likely right, this is after all the better way at buying time.

Actually going by the rules of conduct, you guys (general people like you) are, and have been for the past 2 years, technically harassing the thieves community by creating numerous unproductive posts. You’ve also been preventing us from “rights to play and enjoy the Game.” by verbally harassing us in game after we have beaten you.

So it really depends on how you look at things.

Well, theres another thread on another forums that suggests a thief is capable of killing 4 people alone. So, following what is being said in that thread. stacking thieves should be VERY viable. Considering 1 thief can kill 4 players, and it’s 5v5…. You can designate 2 thieves to camp the spawns, they will have the power to kill 8 people but since it’s only 5 they should completely wreck them, even if it’s different game modes. Then the 3 remain thieves should just go and cap points.

Great ideas, nightblood.7910!!! It never occurred to me about chill and interrupts, but you have a point.

Have to say I hate the idea that we need to carry a “trap” that costs 15 silver and some badges of honor if we want to reveal a thief. What kind of poo is that? Light fields revealing stealth would be an excellent addition to the game.

Just gonna go ahead and call out nightblood.7910 for being the guy who whined about thieves for a couple days in the thief forums. Then someone told him to make a video of him playing thief in PvP and he posted this less than one day later:

If you are losing to Thieves 1v1 and you’re not a mesmer, it’s because you’re bad.

You’re more than free to disagree, but the Sneakthief gear best matches Thieves in game and it looks like a ninja. I’m just waiting for you to have some sort of throwing stars Utility in HoT :-p

It’s half and half. I don’t mind variety myself and I like many aspects of that precise theme, the aesthetics, the feel, when done right, is simply amazing. But it’s often far too kitten-ized by a major amount of people to the point that it burns my eyes. I’ll simply wish to not have that Japanese culture/fantasy shoved down my throat if possible, and it will be alright.

I suppose that the wish is more than fair, coming from someone who hunted and ran after Thieves across entire maps and behind enemy lines just because they were dressed like Altaïr, Ezio or whatever and claimed to be master assassins.

OH god…. there were periods of time, guessing when a new game came out for the series, where every other thief looked like him. He no longer looks cool, just an annoying eye sore.

The one ninja costume/set we have doesn’t actually look that good either, like the headpiece is just…. something about it is so ugly.

Pretty sure both rapiers and katanas are in the game right now, as in skins for them. rapier is a sword skin, and the katana is a GS skin (so if the thief ever got a GS as it’s spec weapon…).

But yeah if they did something like WoW did with pandaland, I probably would stop playing the game. GW1:Factions though had done it right…. pandaland … no… just no. In terms of themes.


Side thing about ninjas and well mask…. wish the Visage of Koda didn’t have the nose/jaw sticking out so much to the point where it looks like a beak. or that we had more full face masks… (in game, not gem store)

I’d rather not assume. Assuming gets you in trouble in life, better to be explicit. Better to hear directly from the OP. =)

That wasn’t an assumption, just a wise-kitten answer.

Since both questions ask which class to play, and in both instance there’s an Ele as the option for an answer, choosing Ele would mean that both questions would be correctly answered.

And assumption would be something like “well since you played and main a mesmer, you probably liked stealth, so go with thief” – assuming he liked stealth.

But yeah it would be nice if the OP edited his post or clarified. Though, considering it has “Thief” in the title, posted in the thief forums, and he mains mesmer, it would be a safe assumption that he’s asking whether to play an Ele or a Thief.

idk this guy asked me to make a guide on how i rekt em 1v4 so yeah

Step 1 : Go Stealth
Step 2 : Backstab
Step 3 : Repeat until target is dead

thats it tbh i dont do anything else, it works pretty well

That is what they call Rinse and Repeat> No Skill Required

No skill is still a skill because there’s skill to not using skill to kill so no skill is the best skill.

You can run around pwning people with no skill while they fail at try-harding all the skill they have when they could of just easily put up a better fight by using less skill. If they die to no skill than their skill is not a very good skill. Now you can think about this no skill situation the next time you enter battle with a skilled player and ponder how many times I used the word skill.

I’ve been seeing (a bit biased) people mention RF Online sometimes. And it’s understandable since both games have/had large scale wars (chip wars in the case of RF online, and well WvW here). So definitely an attraction to former players from RF Online.

I’m just curious if anyone from my old guild(s) plays GW2.
I was a Cora Assassin, can’t remember which server…

Try killing someone with Sword and getting accused of heartseeker spam in angry whispers. People don’t even try to make sense anymore with their complaints and whine about everything. ;s

Don’t worry though, Revenant will steal all the QQ hate with their energy system.

The revenant with all its condi spamm will make the killing of thieves a joke

Yeah, but, if a thief kills a revenant, that thief will be automatically deemed OP moreso than at the start of the fight.

Thief should be able to kill a Revenant extremely easily by lore standards though. If not, then Anet has destroyed immersion~ At least if they’re channeling Shiro. Assassins were his mightiest weakness.

Why: lets be honest. attacking out of stealth and negating active defense with multiple attacks to get a strong “opening” attack is not fair for the ressources spend from thief in comparison for the ressource and more important recharge time spend from the victim. now it would be require a setup as example after camping in shadow refuge to successful attack a guard with aegis.

What: feline grace
Type: Counter-play, Trait changes.
Suggestion: feline grace now grants 50% bonus endurance regeneration for 6secs and is stackable.
Why: without that feline grace just stacks to easy with vigor, sigill of energy and other endurance regenerating sources.

What: flanking strike
Type: Counter-play, Skill changes.
Suggestion: flanking strike now goes into Larcenous Strike if it gets evaded, blocked or missed if in range
Why: if a victim used a ressource to negate that attack there should be now reward for a thief to get a free attack again with build-in dmg mitigation for more pressure and active defense burning. also it would open more counterplay and prevent multiple usage of that skill for dmg mitigation. an aftercast would kill the chain. that why we try to open counterplay that way

What: larcenous strike
Type: Counter-play, Skill changes.
Suggestion: larcenous strike now stays active from 3 seconds to 5 seconds
Why: to indicate why to use the chain and not for dmg-mitigation spam of flanking strike coupled with other dmg-mitigation during the 3 seconds before reset.

What: chill
Type: Counter-play, Mechanic change.
Suggestion: chill now inflicts initiative regeneration
Why: i see no reason why a thief should get an exception

What: initiative
Type: Counter-play, Mechanic change.
Suggestion: on interrupt the initiative is lost that will be spend
Why: other classes get a recharge too, so why a thief should be a exception

What: lotus strike
Type: Counter-play, Skill changes.
Suggestion: lotus strike lower posion duration from 4sec to 3secs
Why: 4sec for a attackchain of a non-condi-weapon is to strong. esp against zerker

What: crippling strike
Type: Counter-play, Skill changes.
Suggestion: crippling strike now just grants cripple and now weakness anymore
Why: thief already has strong dmg-mitigation tools. weakness is also more deadly against other zerker

What: withdraw
Type: Counter-play, Skill changes.
Suggestion:withdraw recharge from 15sec to 20sec and healing from 4344 to 5792. withdraw now counts as trick
Why: withdraw is one of the strongest heals ingame. fast recharge to synchronize perfect with on heal procs. condi remove of soft cc and evade. with this change withdraw would still heal the same and used with trickster more than before. it would also open choices.

What: shadow shot
Type: Counter-play, Skill changes.
Suggestion: shadow shot reworked. now the melee attack applies blind and not the projectil anymore
Why: throught the projectil applying blind a thief could negate defense like marks or mines with this to easy.

What: shadow shot

Suggestion: shadow shot combined coeeff from 1.5 to 1 or +1 initiative
Why: shadow shot is a to strong skill for the fact that his dmg is not related to targets life value like heartseeker and functions as gap closer + dmg mitigation

Suggestion: possible other solution would be to higher the skill cost of initiative for all weaponskills but further buff initiative basis recharge and for traits and weaponskills
Why: with this during a zerker fight initiative would not be possible to cover all the needed amount of skills during a very short fight, what zerkerfights normaly are. at least shorter then against sustained builds. with higher regeneration of initiative thief would also has

better skillcover for longer fights

What: shadow embrace
Type: Skill buff
Suggestion: shadow embrace now removes 2 conditions with a 5 sec pulse.
Why: outside of shadow art thief the condi-removal is to bad and inside pvp a thief cant sit in stealth to long for a fight on a node

What: shadow return
Type: Skill buff
Suggestion: shadow return now removes 2 conditions
Why: to buff the condi-removal of thiefs and for compensate of the higher risk of infiltrators strike + shadows return

What: mug
Type: Trait buff
Suggestion: mug grant healing from 1980 to 2780.
Why: to compensate for removed recharge and to open a question when to use steal during a fight

hooma.9642 has requested that I would post, for him, his changes up on one of my lists, so here they are. He’s open for feedback and will probably PM you directly – he’s perma-banned from the forums .

There are quite a bit of nerfs at first, there are buffs to, so don’t jump the gun early.
And I would retract the chill along with the higher initiative cost on all skills nerf/change if I was him, that’s a bit too harsh.

I guess the reason I choose to post it in the Change Wish List as opposed to the Nerf Wish List is: he seemed to have thought at least a little about buff and trying to get the thief a little less stealth dependent. Pretty sure these changes are more of a nerf in the end, but he tried (at least from my perspective) to bring it out of stealth/teleporting style into stealthless with the buffs/nerfs.

lets face it. thief is the ultimate predator in pvp. a perfect designed roamer. fastest classes thx to z-axis ports and best engage and disengange potential thx to stealth and ports. dd, dp, sd and sp have all build in dmg mitigationtools like blind or evade. and thx to initiative they can use it more than once during a fight. all what a thief needs is timing. is it harder to start as thief? yes, there is more risk bound for a beginner to thief.. but as soon as someone uses the tools right, there is nearly no counterplay anymore. initiative covers the need for dmg-mitigation during a zerker fight.

and even if a thief is starting to loose, a smart thief knows when to disengage. thx to stealth a thief can easier disengange as all other classes, except maybe mesmer. but not only stealth helps the thief, his ports are also handy for this purpose. thief pushes various zerker builds out of pvp. at no point any class has found a counter to thief and stealth. ppl just start to live with that circumstance and stopped playing squisher builds in higher tiers. to open other possible roles thief must loose 1 of his advantages. either speed, less disengage potential or the advantage against other zerker builds. the other problem is, thief is pigeonhold by design into roamer role. and by philosophy from anet thief shall be a evasive class. even if thief would not be the strongest fighter anymore, anytime a thief is stealthing in a pvp match, ppl need to rotate to protect nodes from decapping. that potential alone forces outmanned fights.
so how we fix this?

What: infiltrators arrow, steal, infiltrators strike, shadow shot and shadow return
Type: Mobility, Skill changes.
Suggestion: infiltrators arrow, steal, infiltrators strike, shadow shot and shadow return loosing the capability to port z-axis.
Why: with this positioning now for other zerker builds is important again. the last patch destroyed positioning completly.

What: steal and infiltrators strike
Type: Mobility/Skill changes.
Suggestion: steal and infiltrators strike need los
Why: without the need to be los its to easy for a thief to attack from a “safespot” and disengage if needed.

What: infiltrators strike
Type: Mobility, Skill changes.
Suggestion: infiltrators strike doesnt activate if not in range
Why: no more “safespots” and free condi-remove via chain without a target in range

What: serpents touch
Type: Counter-play, Trait changes.
Suggestion: serpents touch lower poison duration from 10secs to 3secs
Why: atm its to strong for just an adept trait. esp for fight against zerkers where its will be likely that he needs healing during the duration. now it would require more timing.

What: bountiful theft
Type: Counter-play, Trait changes.
Suggestion: bountiful theft needs a rework of priority of stolen boons
Why: coupled with sleight of hand its a to strong combo to always get a assured interrupt.

What: sleight of hand
Type: Counter-play, Trait changes.
Suggestion: sleight of hand removing of the 20% recharge
Why: sleight of hand is already strong on its own and can act like a quasi stunbreaker to interrupt the action of the victim thx to no activation time of steal. coupled with the other strong traits, steal is very strong but is more a no-brainer thx to short recharge time. now more timing is needed.

Honestly, whenever someone in an MMO says “Build/strategy X is cheesy” I hear, “Build/strategy X is more powerful than alternatives”. Getting mad about it is like getting mad that someone won a race because they had a faster car.

Thief level 80 exotic armor for pvp and pve?

In my opinion, I would just get all berserkers, armor and trinkets. The stat will work for WvW and Pve.

Since most dungeons prefer high damage and in WvW you want to burst your enemies as fast as possible so soliders won’t help much there, unless your goal is to go tanky.

Ok but real quick, why not go with assassin’s? It gives more crit chance which I’d imagine would be way more reliable for bursting people since you have higher chance to crit

You get enough crit from zerker gear (+traits). Plus if you take Hidden Killer, you get 100% crit chance while in stealth, so that backstab is 100% crit with that trait.
Besides that, crit alone doesn’t give you damage… it gives you a chance to proc your crit damage and crit damage is scaled by power…
The “happy” amount is in the 40-65% range.

What: General scouting tips
Advice:

Props to the guy that made the video, it’s a bit dated but still gives a good sense for scouting. A thing to note…. The name of the game for scouts is to provide information… while roamers do w/e they want (along with maybe providing some information/causing havoc).
