Though I will add it, thanks for linking it.
Wow… started reading it, wonder who owned him so hard…
(edited by Zero Day.2594)
Nope.
And rather not care.
The way things seem to be done now is: announce something way ahead of time (+6 months), build up the hype, hype gets to big, fans are disappointed in the end.
I would have liked HoT to have been announced more like “We’ve been working on an expansion and we’re releasing it on Month Day (within like a month/weeks of the announcement). Here are some key features. <talk about features>. The NDA will be lifted one week prior to the release date.”
(edited by Zero Day.2594)
The repository hosting the code for the expansion has spontaneously combusted. Unfortunately there is no backup repository and so the expansion has been canceled.
OR
We forgot to mention, we’re switching to a subscription based model upon expansion release. You still have to buy the expansion though – at $59.
Um…
What are they stress testing for?
There’s already a tested and working infrastructure in place running the game…
New infrastructure? Why? Why not replicate/appended the one that’s working now… And I don’t remember them doing a stress test beta when they switched Mega Servers.
I think it’s more to find bugs and to get a bit of hype(since there’s no NDA).
Yeah, I have to agree, out of all the things we could get, shield, focus, torch, warhorn, and staff would be the most disappointing ones. Everything else is pretty cool.
And as much as there’s a lot of wanting for a rifle or a GS… I have this very bad feeling, a huge fear, that we will end up getting a torch….
Another cool thing that could be done with the rifle, a melee rifle to be more accurate, is having it’s stealth ability teleport you to the back of the target and thrust the rifle upwards and into the target.
Oh man, the QQ’s about that would be amazing. “I just had a rifle shoved… TEEF OP”
(edited by Zero Day.2594)
…
even though I really want GS and the same time Rifle. So yeah, let’s totally start a riot for GS and Rifle…
I could get behind that. I want to use my aetherized rifle and Belindas GS on my charr thief. Have you seen how charr take out rifles? And the possibilities with GS is also pretty cool.
Yes, make the GS on thief have the same fighting style as Mugen’s (guy in red without the glasses in the gif).
Better yet, allow the GS in one hand and Rifle in the other….
Yep! And how to dance volume 2 can have an on the back spin as well so we can really copy Mugen.
(Samurai Champloo for those interested)
Meanwhile… the rifle folks are just lying still trying to not be found…
It is hard to counteract that in kittenery without posting something graphic so I’ll just say search “O’ren ishii sniping” on youtube if you do not mind it.
Firstly, I doubt that it will be THAT long ranged (from the top of some apartment building shooting kilometers away). Secondly, I wouldn’t mind the rifle if we could go into 1st person snipping mode (the satisfaction of personally aiming for the head…), which again I highly doubt that’s something they will ever implement. And thirdly the acrobatic stunt being pulled in maug’s clip, she didn’t do much besides falling… since she was spotted in the first place.
The closer you are to the enemy and the more tool-less you are while killing them the more bad-kitten you are.
Bare fists > Brass knuckles > Butter knifes > Knifes > swords > bows (skill wise) > hand guns > rifles > long ranged rifles > tanks/vehicles > missiles > someone else doing it for you while you’re on another continent sipping champagne.

Realistically, it’s just a stress test, and probably the same content as they had for the demo.
The stress test part doesn’t make sense in my head though… They have the infrastructure for what’s currently running which was stress tested and improved before and after release. Why do they need to stress test, when they could just use the same infrastructure as the one running now… It works for PvE content…
I got in but I doubt the new specializations will be ready, it will probably be what we’ve seen already.
It is your duty, as a thief, to generate as many pre-release QQ’s about the thief as possible.
You have been chosen to carry out this mission.
Best of luck. May the delicious tears rain heavily from above.

If an when thieves get rifles, I am going to point and laugh.
And I will be the first to make a ridiculous QQ post about rifles – and they will get nerfed after day one.
(edited by Zero Day.2594)
The reason why it will most likely be rifle is because:
I don’t think ANet cares so much if someone already designed skills for them.
2.) “The current goal is to broaden gameplay for each profession, providing new roles and allowing players to mix and match abilities.” Putting more melee weapons on an already melee intensive profession would be redundant and would fail to accomplish what was intended.
Right. Same can be said about the Rifle, we will remain a squishy stealth dependent burst profession.
3.) Rifle won’t require anet to design and balance Combo skills and traits for each individual weapon. It would be easier to slap 5 new skills on.
Yeah, that’s why great swords are great as well.
4.) Rifle is a non-magical weapon. Currently only the warrior and engineer can use rifle and both of them are the least magical professions in the game. Thief would be next in line for it if we were to follow this trend since the only magic they use is Shadow Refuge and steps. It makes the most sense in this case.
Aside from a staff and a focus, all the weapons are non-magical with magic tacked onto them for the sack of the game.
5.) Thief is the only profession without a terrestrial long-range weapon. Putting a rifle (or longbow) on them would instantly fulfill #2.
True, I will give you this point. Can’t deny it.
Though it will bring in the QQ’s of “I’ve died to OP stealthzor teef that wasn’t even on my screen! nerf plox kthnxbye” – but really anything we get will bring some form of QQ.
6.) With it being the most highly anticipated weapon out of the rest, not getting it could fuel another exodus. Likewise, getting it might bring some vets back.
Nah… Great sword master race! Warrior has great sword, guardian has great sword <- leaders of the master race have great swords… Rangers and mesmers have great swords and necro will be getting one as well. And for the sack of things, the rest of the classes should get a great sword. kitten it! Great swords for everyone!
But yeah most likely we won’t get a great sword, I have this suspicion that there will be as few “overlapping” weapons if any, as in thief getting a rifle and guardian getting a rifle. It will most likely be rifle, or the dreaded torch.
How about…
We protest to get both a great sword and a rifle?
Wasn’t that what they were supposed to have fixed?
Yeah they’ve fixed that at least in LA…
I could also port up/down the stairs and ledges, that is in LA at Mystic Plaza/Toilet and the ledge/stairs for the TP.
Although I think it’s still half-kitten ’ed… Talking about the stairs leading up to the TP from the Mystic Forge in LA, if you stand on the platform (that allows for a slight angle) between the first flight of stairs and the second flight of stairs and shoot IA at the top platform where the TP is such that it’s still green but at maximum range, it only takes me half way up the 2nd flight of stairs (me starting from the platform between the stairs).
(and i JUST glitched it, going from the platform between the stairs to a couple of feet away from the TP)
Wow… after 5 minutes of playing with the stairs to the TP, not only did i find a glitch/bug (can’t seem to reproduce it
) but also was able to waste initiative while getting “no valid path to target”. Shooting + jumping, depending on where you aim can get you from the platform to top of the stairs/top-platform.
:D well i guess i will spend an extra 5 minutes each day after flipping to try and reproduce the glitch…
yeah it’s a half done/baked “fix”. Like you can target the ground under the top platform, have the cursor be green, shoot it, the initiative gets consumed and you’re still on the top platform. By their claim of a “fix” i shot have not lost any initiative and there should have been a “no valid path to target”. From it looks like too, when aiming at the ground under the platform, the character does get displaced sightly on the horizontal plane (the platform), the vertical plane/traveling under the platform seems to be accounted for at all or it gets ignored. Though again by their claim of a fix, i should have gotten “no valid path to target” (i didn’t get that message), not have lost initiative, since the character can’t travel on both planes/all 3 axises.
O WELL, I just flip on the TP, this isn’t a problem for me.
(Man, and I was actually trying to white-knight it for them this time… couldn’t do it after testing it a bit)
(edited by Zero Day.2594)
Yeah, probably Basilisk venom will be more fitting for you, as you’ve already discovered.
Thieve’s Guild is fitting for me when and how I run P/D, in sPvP. WvW the little roaming that I’ve done, I’ve taken Basilisk or Thieve’s Guild. WvW zerging, I usually take Dagger Storm.
I’ve just been doing sPVP and recently switched from using Thieves’ Guild to Basilisk Venom and I must say I’m liking the venom a lot. Being able to have it up so often aids with my ability to burst and single out high priority targets. So yeah, liking Basilisk venom
! I’m not 80 yet so I’ve yet to mess with WvW and im only leveling by pvp.
Guessing you’re running D/P or D/D?
Wouldn’t S/P be more recommended for PvE/lvl’ing since the sword has an inherit (better) cleave and the pistol offhand provides black powder, so you can face-tank melee mobs.
I remember when I lvl’ed I would just switch between weapon sets when I would get bored of one. Eh.
Ha, I just realized I kitten ’ed and called it Guild of Thieves.
Thieves Guild hits really hard too, at least the melee chick does. It’s our “unfair” 1v1 Elite.
Yeah she does seem to do a fair bit of damage, plus the scorpion wire that she uses is nice, since people don’t seem to like being pulled and knocked down. The dude also puts down black powder.
Eh, I would advice against Thieves’ Guild. It has a very long cooldown, and at least in duels, can easily be waited out.
Yeah in preset duels that people love talking about, those that happen in WvW or custom lobbies against two people that know each other, Thieves Guild is is probably useless. Or, well, people that know what to do/how to do with it, against them it’s also useless/less effective.
Against a random person you’ve encountered for the first time, it could work to a very suprising degree. Using Thieves’ Guild also doesn’t break stealth, last I remember, so it has an interesting use there (and people never seem to attack them with AA’s either…).
But yeah out of the three elites, it’s probably the least used. Though we have no clue what build the OP is trying to run or what he’s trying to do… “What’s the best food in the (real) world?” (well we can tell you that living off of donuts is probably not a good way to go…)
Depends on the scenario and build.
Basilisk has it’s use as described by Samuel.
Dagger Storm could be used in say a WvW zerg scenario for say stability (not sure with recent changes…), tagging, crippling/downing low health enemies, maybe even reflecting a bit of projectiles. Signet of Malice and Dagger Storm are pretty nice together.
Guild of Thieves, could be used for distraction/adding a bit of chaos/confusion into the fight. Though of the 3, this one might be less used.
Not sure you will get a definite answer of “use X and only X.”

Are you trying to make the leather prices go up, have more loot bags running around, and make the game easier for yourself, Vincent?
That’s a brilliant idea, I can’t believe it almost slipped me.
EVERYONE ROLL A THIEF.
They’re the most OP class, easy to play, have a win button that can be traited to make it more win, and generally you feel like a god playing a thief since you’re an unstoppable invulnerable invincible invisible force of destruction running around owning every noob and their dog that crosses your path. The game should be called Guild Thieves 2. You will love the game and the thief so much that you will name your first unborn child “TEEF”.
…
Who should I fear ? I got no idea.
…
People that are better skilled than you.
~snip~
…the opponent feeling like it was a “fair” fight…
~snip~Unfortunately, it’s automatically an “unfair” fight just because it’s a Thief. We know this fully well.
Well maybe, just maybe, the specialization will overhaul the thief so much and be called completely something else that they might, just might, forget for a split second that they’re dealing with a thief.
Yeah, I know, it won’t happen.
>.>
It has to be a great sword. So I can come back here and say “I told you so”.
Besides the “I told you so”, a great sword looks more promising for a stealth-less (and maybe even evade-less, since the sword is big and heavy) builds that hopefully will survive going toe-to-toe with an opponent and the opponent feeling like it was a “fair” fight afterwards (regardless of winning or losing). Also possibly bring better WvW zerging potential, since that’s there to stay.
Though I have a very bad feeling, that it will be a torch/focus offhand.
We will see sometime in late summer, I guess.
Now now, vincent, you know it’s rude and pointless to argue with “adults”…
Ok… I see that people will only listen to what they like. Have fun kids…
Which is really funny since he wants to settle the argument by telling me to meet him at the parking lot so we can fight it out — just like back in Elementary School. lol.

What do you mean by…
“limited line of sight that the game client has.”
“limited detection out of stealth.”Are you asking for a giant arrow to be pointed down on ever thief when they’re outside of stealth? What? I feel like I’m not understanding something here…
I believe he is talking about the max camera distance and that its generally difficult to detect players whether they are constantly going invisible or not.
Really…?
Yeah, I mean the “limited line of sight” is either referring to fixed FOV or max camera distance or both – which a lot of players complain about. We are getting adjustable FOV though.
Well, that’s great that it’s getting adjusted…
But this is almost like complaining that my peripheral vision in real life doesn’t allow me to see what’s behind my back and that people behind my back are taking advantage of that. Oh it’s totally the people behind my back that are at fault.
Well I guess his complaint has nothing to do with thieves.

Really…?
Here’s a theory as to why a build saver isn’t feasible, or at the very least difficult. Builds in this game aren’t based just on your chosen traits, but also on at least 12-14 pieces of gear (armor/weapons/trinkets) and associated utility skills. Assuming you’re even willing to carry half a bag’s worth of extra gear in your inventory, coming up with a mechanic that switches all that around with a click or two when out of combat seems like it would be difficult in the extreme.
Wow and Rift both do that. Thats standard now.
Not only that but… First there could be a functionality for traits and utilities, then there could be functionality for gear switching.
Great sword master race!
Haven’t you learned yet? They don’t care, when nobody plays thief anymore they’ll be all the happier about it,
^^^ We just like posting on the thief forums.
Oh gosh, no need to use [Blinding Powder] on you, Tempest. It must be hard – playing this game using only braille.
It really is… my screen is flat most of the time. :/

It would appear that thieves are getting scepters (in that video, the weapon the medium armor character is using is a scepter by the way, not a focus or torch). Could be wrong though.
It’s been rumored.

Because, apparently, it’s hard to implement properly.
Kind of interested in what’s “hard” about it.

And the flight of the shuriken has a rainbow trail. And the shot sounds like a unicorn roar. OMG I THINK WE MADE A LEGENDARY ONE HANDED CROSSBOW.
LEGENDARY ONE HANDED CROSSBOW CONFIRMED
Thief receives hate because:
- At a low level, thief counters every berserker build for every other class easily, and I mean pop in, swing your weapon about a bit and they drop – literally, easy.
- Thieves are hard to kill because they escape. Even if chasing someone off means you won, people like to get kills, so they complain.
– In tPvP, thief is only really countered by itself. It may have difficult matchups, but it’s role as being quick and sneaky to get decaps can only be countered by another mobile, aware, player.
- Thieves survive by blinding and evading, and having your hits miss often is annoying, so people complain.
- Thieves are designed to be able to adapt. People don’t like to adapt, they just want to be able to win “their way,” so they complain.
- Thieves can dissapear. People don’t like having their target vanish, so they complain.-Thieves steal things. People like their things not being stolen, they paid good money for it. :C
- Then they hold garage sales to sell back the stolen items.
Just go through the nerf wish list (in my sign) and read through all/some of the posts that have “Originally by: ____”, read some of the linked threads. :P That way you can come up with your own answers.
My take on it is that, regardless of they class they’re playing or playing against, their inability to learn and develop causes them to develop frustration that they come and vent out. And by learn and develop I don’t necessarily mean overcome/finally beat the opposing class, more like learn to deal with it (say avoiding it or other methods).
It would be interesting to go through their post histories and see if they’ve complained about other classes besides the thief.

Im not going to quote that whole spill again but this, I didnt notice at first.
It’s time for you to roll thief and post your daily logs of your endeavors….i want videos with commentary
I am seriously considering doing just that, I was keeping my tomes for the new class, but yes this has crossed my mind, lets see what this noob everyone thinks I am can do with a thief.
But if Im going to commit my time to that, I want a guaranteed nerf if I can produce the same.
And hoenstly, if I can get stuns on block with no cd and renewed focus recharging my skills as well as virtues. Id be saying the same thing you guys are “Naahhh this is not overpowered its still got these holes and and well if its 10 good people they could take me down, but no noobs.”
Sure.

What: Thief Mobility
Why: Isn’t it obvious thieves move too much in combat and teleport and evade all over the place. This makes it hard for other classes to 1shot their health. The solution is simple nerf all of thieves teleports increasing the initiative cost. Also add huge aftercasts to every thief skill so they can be sitting ducks for all the passive no skill classes to kill.
:D I hope these people come back to the game to enjoy it now.
