yeah… for some reason most games are dumbing themselves down
GW2, D3, WoW(pandaland new skill trees)
I think yous are missing the point.
To craft 1 one hander takes nearly the same mats as to craft 1 two hander.
Assuming the character has no equipment, and assuming the thief does not want the short bow (only two hander), it would take twice the amount of time for a thief to get both a main hand and an off hand, while the ele can get by with just getting a staff.
The problem is that there’s no difference in mat costs between one handers and two handers. NOT how many weapon preferences one may have.
I’ve said it in another post somewhere….
The only explanation for both one handers and two handers having nearly the same mat requirement, is probably due to the fact they yield the (nearly?) same exp when crafted. Instead of adjusting the exp and mats accordingly, they were lazy and made everything worth (mat wise) nearly the same.
This, on their part, was not thought throughly.

:| no i think he needs a breather between getting those tiers
(and everyone below me, made me look like a troll, instead of playing along)
(edited by Zero Day.2594)
“However the concept of progression rewards with a shallow curve bridging other rewards was.”
So… what happened:
There existed Exotics and Legendary weapons. Legendary Weapons at the start did not have better stats than exotics, only had cool cosmetic looks and effects. The problem was that getting legendary weapons meant getting the precursor first. The precursor, a standard exotic, could not be crafted, and solely relied on luck (RNG) through the low chance of a drop or being created in the Mystic Forge. The low chance of a precursor drop (never mind the other requirements of the legendary), made the task daunting and boring to accomplish. This made it a large gap between getting an exotic and getting a legendary. Not wanting to move legendary weapons out of their place, they created Ascended weapons, with higher stats (also boosting Legendaries while at it), to bridge the gap between legendaries and exotics. This however caused exotics to become 2nd Best in Slot.
If that’s close to the true story… I can say this: instead of addressing the real issue, RNG/Precursors, they created a new tier of gear to bridge the gap. This new tier bringing it’s own problems such as Time Gating on Best in Slot….
So despite what they’ve said, about not adding anymore tiers of gear…. They still can… Because there might be a gap between Exotics and Ascended or there might be a gap between Ascended and Legendaries….
:D I like how the polls still going
@ZilentNight
Dislike, basically means you have an issue with it
Like is basically you don’t have any issues with it.
don’t care is basically you don’t care
I will more then likely make a poll of which issue it is….(but there’s currently too many to keep track of)
Not sure how you managed to get 20g….
I flip/play AH sometimes, and I’m sitting on 95g, which is not a lot….. but thats over the span of weeks…. 20g in a day, few paths (where paths in gold yield <2.5g) seems a bit unbelievable.
Strongly dislike. If they were way easier to get, involved way less grind, or at least didn’t increase weapon rating (to mitigate the necessity of getting them), then I might be kinda ok with them. I don’t like Ascended trinkets either but at least those just take Laurels. But this is just a travesty.
Same, i dislike the time gating aspect a lot….
Really feels artificial and non-needed….
it really serves no beneficial function. Rich can still bypass the time gating via buying the (refined) mats…..
:P kinda expecting these numbers….
remind me how the forum population represents the whole player base again?
It dont. Not even close. But it’s still fun to watch
Yup…
there’s a lot of things wrong with the poll, nowhere (and please point out) that it was perfect, nor is it trying to change thoughts for ANet (i doubt they listen anyways).
legendaries are on their own….
although good point, they’re no longer cosmetic if you’re on exotics
I clicked “Don’t Care” because I really, really just don’t care about Ascended weapons. Entropy/Genesis + Wings of Dwayna forever!
Also, did they say they were bumping up Legendary Weapons to match Ascended?
Yeah they did.
To add to that (yeah),
You will be able to switch their stats out of combat…. ( think this, is unique and should be for a legendary, this and not having it soul bound (account bound only…))
@Lanfear you probably fall under “don’t care”, since really you have nothing against it….
:| there’s also this i’m overlooking:
casuals, gamers, hardcore gamers
each with their own mindsets….
78 not too bad
realistic…
because i think they give roughly the same amount of exp therefore should cost roughly the same.
Whether its a one hander thats accompanied by another one (off) hander vs one giant sword in both hands….. flew way past everyones heads that where discussing on mat requirements during initial design.
Why are the material requirements for a dagger, which I need two of, the same as for a freaking great sword?
spare parts….
in case while you’re crafting and you don’t read the instruction
“The hilt does not go …”
(edited by Zero Day.2594)
Legendaries were meant to be cosmetic, a chase like FoW armor (or Vabbian, because at one point due to the market it was worth more) back in GW1 days…
ascended were meant (from my understanding) to bridge the gap between legendary and exotic, as well as give a harder time getting gear, because apparently exotics wasnt hard at all….
GW1, I had several different builds i would run on just one char accompanying by several (kittenty looking but dirt cheap, max stat) gear sets… It was nice being able to switch between builds knowing that i would still retain max stats due to how easy (and some people will say “oh it was still a challenge” – compared to exotics even, it was nothing you just ended up looking bad) to get max stat gear…. so gear never really came into question when making builds.
Although I would complain even about legendaries, in the sense that in GW1 *YOU could work towards * your armor, via farming…. as long and tedious as it was, you were making progress step by step… instead of hoping for a precursor to drop from the sky like finding a \$ 5 0 bill at a mall. (why is $ 5 0 (without spaces) censored out?)
(edited by Zero Day.2594)
A lot (i would say most) of people dont care. PvE is so easy that you can slap random combination of gear and still be succesful with little skill. And theyll just play the game until it starts to interfere to much with their playing and then quit.
yeah i guess
I just would hate to see GW2 flop and be torn down. Loved playing gw1, gw2 did better in some areas and in some areas it got worse…
Same thing with D3, flopped on release, now slowly making a recovery…
I just don’t feel comfortable going to other sites. But, that’s just me.
fair enough :| i did provide a link bellow, in case the HERE scared you (i know it does some people, since they tend not to see exactly where they’re going)….
sad they don’t have a polls implemented for these forums. Lots of fun* can be had.
*including flame wars…
beginning to slightly wonder why some “don’t care”….
Guess some live in sPvP, some are starting to just play (so the ending or whats after is far away)… still :/ it does effect a good chunk of the game. And the coming armor will too. O well :| i made that option.
come on, it takes 5 seconds…
or maybe 27 don’t care.
:D oh and bump the thread somehow….
o.o
TL;DR – Vote here on your feelings towards Ascended weapons whether you like or dislike them (not cosmetically, rather how they impact on the game).
Thanks to “The Eternal Grace” with the “Living Story or Expansion” post for showing me this poll site. The lack of polls for a forum saddens me.
Anyways…
With the release of Ascended weapons (and prior to it) and the soon to be Ascended armor, to me it seemed that there were more people against ascended then for.
I wish to see this in a poll. And depending on how the poll goes, I may create another poll to identify the reason why people dislike it.
If everyone likes it, there’s no point in further polls as everything is fine, if people dislike it more so, then lets find out the reason why.
I tried to keep it simple… The question is
Do you like Ascended Weapons? And I don’t mean cosmetically, I mean the impact that they have in the game.
You dislike Ascended weapons, either because of time gating, cost, effects on build diversity, effects on WvW or so on….
OR
You don’t care because you aren’t going to get one, exotics are just fine, say you only sPvP or really any other reasons….
OR
You like Ascended weapons because it gives a sense of progression or any other reason (sorry i couldn’t come up with any more, i voted on dislike…)
In no way this is to promote democracy in a game (as that’s a bit hard to do…)
The link is underneath if you don’t trust the ‘Vote here’:
http://poll.pollcode.com/ugrky
Lastly, try to keep the flames to a minimum …
And, if you know someone in game that rarely visits the forums…. please try to get them to vote.
i wanna have fishing and riding mounts and so on but they are lazy to add that
yeah mounts! really any speed increase, i say take the steam-punk route and make jetpacks…. so you can hover around (not necessarily fly, as that will defeat some of the challenges of map completion and jumping puzzles).
Fishing – no.
Top it off, I wish there were areas with denser resources… take for examples ALL those trees you walk past while on route… yet for some reason you can only chop down that one that’s randomly placed and doesn’t really look like a normal(environment) tree. (way too much to ask though) Or if there’s a farm, make the veggies dense, and being able to kill/collect cows for meat….
You know you’re bored of the game when…. You find yourself in Orgrimmar fishing. In GW2 case it will be LA.
I stopped playing the game, when I realized what I was doing.
the catch here guys is….
they’re going to need time gated mats
~3 months of work in total.
BUT, still no guild halls after a year waiting.
or GvG …
scratch that… would rather not GvG without being decked out in ascended gear….
+1 for rifles on thieves!
(hell, we need more weapons, maybe they will get good skills)
“you don’t need to play the game” “you don’t need to level” “you don’t need to get items” “you don’t need to complete the game” “you don’t need to …”
you don’t need buy the game !!
“you don’t need to name your self Tiger”
“you don’t need to edit posts”
“you don’t need to be on the computer right now”
this stuff is endless
So I did a little test in the builder how much those ascended weapons you “need” to “grind” for really matters. Please let me know if I did something wrong.
- Full berserker warrior without ascended weapons and exotic trinkets:
= 6503 effective power
- Full berserker warrior with ascended weapons and exotic trinkets:
= 6582 effective power = 1.1% increase in effective power
If you don’t feel you really need that 1.1% increase in damage/or the looks don’t grind for it! It’s not harder than that when you think about it
Anet themselves mentioned the initial VP adding about 5-10% to the power level in the initial slots released. But, the larger misunderstanding is comparing power level 2 to power level 1. Think about the words that make up VP, vertical progression, it’s about an ever-increasing power level of the game. It’s irrelevant whether power level 2 is required for success in a power level 1 world. The power level of the game will increase over time (by definition) and it’s self-evident that at some point the ever ascending power level will matter.
look at the gear…. in his links…
“you don’t need to play the game” “you don’t need to level” “you don’t need to get items” “you don’t need to complete the game” “you don’t need to …”
:D the trolling has started!
i got a good one…
“you don’t need to repost what i said”
and
“you don’t need to Log on to Win”
saying “you don’t need ascended to play…” is true, we don’t need anything…
the fact that this statement is arising is… “we want ascended gear” so we need it because we want it….
why do we want it?

Fixed…
Ascended = 7001.86 (weapons and trinkets)
http://gw2buildcraft.com/calculator/warrior/?8.2|7.5g.h1h.9.5g.h1|1.1g.h1|1g.a7.1g.a7.1g.a7.1g.a7.1g.a7.1g.a7|4s.0.3s.0.2s.0.2s.0.3s.0.3s.0|u5ab.a1.0.0.u69c|0.0|5x.6d.6e.6c.6m|e
~7.7% increase
Keep in mind two things
1. it’s not full ascended set YET (no armor)
2. Don’t think the weapon damage is included? – could be wrong… but ascended weapons should crit for a metric kitten ton more.
“you don’t need to post on forums”
You will need Ascended if you WvW. Unless you just like getting curbstomped and giving other players easy loot.
Well that’s just a flat out lie. Rare and exotics will do just fine.
Really, greens will do….
no wait… blues (10% stat increase?pfft shrugs off)…
heck why get blues when whites are just as good as blues ….
meh might as well run around naked…
i honestly think you can troll people so hard with
“you don’t need to….”
“you don’t need to play the game”
“you don’t need to level”
“you don’t need to get items”
“you don’t need to complete the game”
“you don’t need to …”
quite frankly, “you don’t need to” do anything at all, game or life.

“- Do I want to improve? Sure, I guess, but my problem is more based in my personal skill and not gear.” – Enough said.
The bottle neck in your case is personal skill, which, almost always, doesn’t have a limit… :P and you did say sure, which made it easy….
Getting better gear is improving, an artificial limit.
No one is saying to break your back trying hard… but over the span of a game or anything, don’t you naturally improve? Even though you may not be trying to improve consciously, you’re still retaining and bettering the skills you already have via practicing. ANYWAYS… way off topic….
More so, my question may justify why some people may want to get ascended gear.
(edited by Zero Day.2594)
I really don’t like people pulling RL into the argument, if only because inevitably there’s flaws in the analogies and it becomes a moot point.
don’t know if you read the post above but let me ask again
DON’T YOU WANT TO DO THE BEST YOU CAN?
(why did you switch from whites to blues, from blues to greens, from greens to yellows…)
I guess the counter arguement is, “i want to just have fun” – cool standing around? being bottom or doing bad in pvp (or anything else), and you’re just going to accept that, not going to try to improve? why does anyone progress or try to go further with anything (really anything)?
o well either too deep or not a lot will understand….
oh noes, get ready for the swarms of YOU CAN’T COMPARE GAME TO RL AHFEJAHJEWAR;LWAFE dog piling on you
Eh… I don’t know, the only thing i’m trying to draw from what i’m saying is
DON’T YOU WANT TO DO THE BEST YOU CAN?
not saying let’s be TRY HARDS, but i mean…
“you don’t need ascended to play the game”
“you don’t need a good job in real life, you can stay a janitor” … sorry I don’t want to be a janitor.
same mentality applies to games/anything in general, the want to be better.
(edited by Zero Day.2594)
I was expecting a sarcastic complaint thread about the newest gear treadmill :O
He hasn’t reached that point. It’s good he’s enjoying it.
This talk of “treadmills” is getting to the point where it’s like trying to define “grind”…or even “fun”.
Agreed. But really that’s what it comes down to on individual bases, how ascended gear is effecting us. As well as how it effects on a more “global” scale, from fun to balance to fairness to play styles…
Personally, I’m against time gating, not so much treadmill/additional ascended. Though I would hope it stops at ascended (would have liked it to have stopped at exotics….).
I didn’t read the posts, just my opinion on time gating:
*It’s a good decision, so that the cleft between poor players and rich ones isn’t that visible. Everyone has a chance to get the item in a fair time with dedication. Not with pure gold which everyone could buy via gems. *
Thanks Anet for time gating
(can’t tell if it’s sarcasm) That’s wrong…. You can buy off TP the time gated mats or their refined versions… So yeah the rich ones are going to get it sooner, and those that wield credit cards will also get it sooner. And it will be easier for them to change builds and have max-stats (to use for their likings, ie. WvW).
and Wallace digested it here:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/crafting/Possibly-buy-all-the-mats-for-Asc-wep-off-TP
I don’t really care what system they use. I just want to get on with my game and not have to grind out gear for better stats. That is so shallow.
But you dont have to! You can play however you want to play! Dont worry about upgrading from greens to rares or rares to exotics!
(sarcasm)
Time gating means you can’t get gear faster than me. For me, that’s fun because I won’t lag behind with my mere 1.5 hours played on the usual days.
Doesnt work for me because you’re going to get gear faster than me. I play 10+ hrs total on the weekend including friday which is about as much time as you spend in a week but i will get my gear much much slower. Like insanely slower
Probably the largest issue with time gating… Now you have to dedicate a bit of time everyday towards a game if you want to progress like everyone else… marnick, you better hope you dont have internet-outtage for N days, or family issues, or any other life things that prevent you from logging in… with them you will lag behind. both players are dedicating roughly the same amount of time per week, yet one is getting rewarded more… why is that?
Thing is… For some reason, there’s not that many (any?) posts titled “Good thing Time gating came” or “Time gating will be awesome” or “Time gating the solution to all problems” or the likes… and the only person arguing (remotely) for time gating is Jski (and I respect you for arguing and taking a stand) and maybe a few others (not enough to count on two hands)… So why is that?
fastest answer you will get is from yourself (not trying to be a wise kitten or anything)
log in and try to find your card info.
while you sit and wait for a real response.
despite the idea’s shortcomings?
i hope they provide a reason for time gating….
an all this ruckus… because of how attainable/accessible ascended gear is…. time gating…
I doubt anyone would complain as much if they didn’t add in time gating.
True it’s vertical progression but if it was easily attainable, within a few days having a few weapons…. but not like 1 weapon in 2 weeks (keep in mind, most people want more than one)…. let’s not forget about switching stats too….
oh? it will make a big difference in dungeons? how big? i didn’t know dungeons were impossible to do without ascended, holy kitten. i must be pro as i’ve done dungeons with a mix of exotics and rares! having ascended will only make it easier, not make the impossible possible.
as for WvW, those who say it will make a big diff need it for their kittens. some people have argued that someone with exotics will be beaten by someone with ascended. i call BS. 1vs1 rarely happens in WvW, and when it does, it’s usually the roamers who are built to kill stragglers. that’s a biased encounter right there. then comes the argument that it makes a difference in small group encounters, i call another BS. no matter how geared you are, if you are outmaneuvered you’d still lose.
oh it won’t be impossible, but it will be less efficient then doing it in asceneded gear. Cool mix of exotics and rares, if you were doing CoF p1 farming people must have been kitten ed off at you.
WvW, fact still remains. Someone will be doing 10% more damage then you. Not because of stat allocation… them having more stats than you.
Remember that time Anet forced you to get ascended items?
Me neither. Cause it never happened.
Remember when you had to carry undergeared people through dungeons? You’re not forced to do anything.
shimmerless, posted on a quote that has a quote in there as well… Let’s all be ignorant and forget the 10%.
Let me ask you this then guys (darkdomino, happyfool)… why did you get blue/greens/yellows/exotics (orange :P) instead of just sticking to whites, you’re not forced to get any of those…. and i mean the difference between white to blue is only (say, not exact) 12%? and then from blue to green is 11% (random numbers)… i mean it doesnt make a big difference right? and that insigificant difference between rares to exotics…it doesn’t make a big difference… right?
Yet for some reason… you still got exotics… why?
though the guy talks about FPS (playing crysis 3), but there’s some general truth to what he’s saying pretaining to gaming in general.
“You don’t need AWs to be competitive”
(at least my general definition) Being competitive means trying to better yourself over the competition, using anything legitimate/within the rules to give you the edge over your competition.
To say that the 9 extra stat points, the ~10% (any increase) is not needed to be competitive, is to say you accept 3rd of 2nd place or 10th place and will not even attempt or struggle to get to the 1st. Not saying 1st place is the only place, but if you dont attempt to get to 1st place, if you dont struggle… it is a game in the end, so o well :P .
at least take the “to be competitive” out of the title.
(edited by Zero Day.2594)
you got to be able to take a step back from a game and know its for fun.
Yeah, taking a step back, realizing it wont be fun…. and that they’re killing it.
