Warrior:
We don’t mind warriors doing massive damage, or doing great area of effect control

Well, good thing I already started re-rolling warrior. Still on the fence though as which is better warrior or guard…
(Going from thief to warrior.)

taking it out of context I see huh,

here’s the whole quote ! don’t try to make it sound like something it isn’t, a nerf is still a nerf !

We also reduced the damage on the hammer’s burst skill to separate the control from the damage. We don’t mind warriors doing massive damage, or doing great area of effect control, but we’re trying to prevent them from easily doing both.

My bad, sure you got nerfed, your still effective at doing something, and they “don’t mind” it. Hence re-rolling.

Suggestions for Thief changes:
(keep all the changes you guys are making, and add in mine, you’re doing great ).

Back-stab builds will still be overpowered, let’s reduce the side-strike trait to 2% chance. Reduce a bit of damage on Back-Stab it self. Hidden killer should be reduced from 100% to 25%.
Sneak-attack on pistol, right now stacks a bit too many bleeds. The number of times shot using that skill should be reduced from 5 to 2. The normal attack on the pistol should no longer apply a bleed effect
Black powder should be as suggested, powder, only blinding one enemy without an AoE effect.
Executioner should be decreased from 20% to 10%.
Backfighting increase damage from 50% to 150%, thieves generally fight when they’re downed, so it’s a good idea to provide a buff and expand build options.

Think these would be some solid changes… Would greatly open up thief builds (for instance, re-rolling to warrior build, or re-rolling to guardian build).

Just re-roll to a guard or warrior.

Warrior is going to feel a fairly large nerf with that patch. Curious to see how it effects the overall warrior builds.

As far as I can tell with the warrior’s nerfs is geared more towards the hammer. They will still be stunning out the kitten , just not doing so much damage whilst stunning. They should still be able to excel just like before…
Personally, I already have a lvl 38 warrior in making. Though always contemplating switching to a guardian.

Whining about Queue? Read this

in WvW

Posted by: Zero Day.2594

Zero Day.2594

Okay, so I complained about the queue, being on a tier 1 server… It’s not so much the wait as it is the randomness (RNG). I wouldn’t mind the wait, if I knew that in X minutes I will be a bit closer to getting in.

It has been confirmed by a dev that when you’re in queue, people are picked at random to join (when someone leaves WvW)… meaning the queue isn’t really a queue, and you don’t have a position (say 10234) that will gradually decrease as people swap places (1 leaving 1 joining, meaning 1 less ahead of you) like in a simple line up. Meaning there’s no way to approximate (and really, even if it was a simple line up, you can’t entirely approximate when the next person will leave and effectively the next N people after, however you know it’s less then before) how much time/people are left until you get in. Like it would be at the very least nice to say “you’re in position X of the queue” and when someone leaves say “you’re in position X-1 of the queue”, instead it’s random who gets out of the line and into WvW. Effectively because of this randomness, it feels unfair (and i’ve been in the situation and felt cheated), that after you have waited for 4hours and 37 minutes, someone logs on, queues up, waits 10 minutes and gets in, while you’ve waited over 4hours and are still waiting to get in. GREAT queuing system, so fair, and exactly how a “queue”/line-up works.

I know “life isn’t fair” and “it’s just a game”… but really, I would whine and complain if (and it has) that happened to me more than twice.

People say there’s better methods for getting in (re-queuing every so often, queuing in a low-pop map), however if it’s random picks then those methods won’t/should do anything… if those methods work, you can question their “RNG” entirely, not just towards the queues, but the chests/precursors/drops/…

“Anet was telling you that moving to T1 is not good idea”, yes that’s the player’s fault… but explain to me how it’s the player’s fault for not getting randomly picked (after waiting for hours) to go into WvW over a player that just logged on (and waited for a couple of minutes)…

Quote from DevonCarver

Queues will be fixed as part of the new map. They will continue to operate as they have since launch until then. The queue does not function as a typical queue and we are fixing it. It will just take some time. It has been a lower priority than the other things we have done and we’ve only now been able to devote the appropriate resources to it.

Quote from JonPeters

This is something that we are working on as part of the changes to the new map. I suspect it will be part of the testing process. It won’t be exact position/time if I had to guess but approximates. We will be updating some of how the queue works as well to make these approximates more accurate.

Storyline Good and Bad Why not?

in Personal Story

Posted by: Zero Day.2594

Zero Day.2594

The story of Guild Wars 2 is not about us. It’s about Trahearne, the Pact and Destiny’s Edge.

We are nothing, we are faceless, voiceless and never mentioned anywhere. We’re ‘The commander’, The ‘Lightbringer’, the ‘Warmaster’. Everything we do will never matter for the story, the writers are not skilled enough to implement that.

You must have a hard time watching movies…. since most of them don’t even remotely mention you.

That aside, it was kind of meh… I mainly didn’t like the ending, the fight with Zhaitian was very anticlimactic. I thought that fighting the paraplegic dragon that’s falling into a whirlpool in WoW (DeathWing) was bad…. Zhaitian was just really boring in the end. All we had to do is sit on the cannons and shoot at him, not even use our own weapons/skills.

1. Implementing a proper Queue.
The intermediary map that you’re going to implement is not going to solve this problem if the “queue” are not first-in-first-out and they remain random.

2. Reward for roaming/scouting.
At the moment, it’s more profitable for the player to remain in the zerg. Those that are requested to scout by their commanders sure are doing a good thing but they’re losing out on so much and are not getting rewarded at all (aside from a thanks).

3. Equipment/skill/trait swapping.
If the 2nd problem will be addressed, and something (say scouting) becomes viable instead of remaining in the zerg. A simple example where this would be helpful is if a person is requested to scout, they might have two different sets and builds, and it’s just a hassle to re-trait and re-equip. Something I dearly miss from GW1.

I just had the best WvW experience!
Spent 4hours 37minutes in a “queue”. Good thing they’re not really queue’s but random picks…. seriously… during the 4h 37minute wait (after which i rage quit), 5 other people queued up and got in after 5-10 minutes of waiting….
Solid job implementing a queue.

The best way to implement Ascended armor?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zero Day.2594

Zero Day.2594

Plus, there are also level cap increases that have the same effect, just in a different way.

Which I, personally wouldn’t mind so much… K they make it lvl90 instead of 80, along with 10 more levels of content to play through, that’s okay…. At the end, getting 90 gear should be “easy” (through dungeon tokens, before they had crazy DR, at least for me was “easy”)… The rest of the gear to grind for are just specifically for looks.
The catch is, they most likely won’t release skins to chase for since they can be bought through the gem store and I think that that’s their intent (buy the looks through gems). Adding in new tier of gear didn’t do much, except make a “very little amount” of people cry.

We should just let things go, and if we don’t like it… well I guess move on to another game. kitten us for buying into what they said, we are kittened and should have known better.

Ascended

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Zero Day.2594

Cry for an end game, at least from a GW1 perspective, means “please give us cool armor skins to chase” or “please give us lots of titles to chase”…

Crying for an end game from WoW perspective “please give us new raids” or “please give us another gear tier to chase” or “please increase lvl cap”

The can’t solve the first “problem” of the GW1 cry, because they make skins for their gem store …. the second cry, um, you could say living story, i think it was just forgotten.

The first problem of WoW cry is yet to be solved. Second cry has already been solved (introduction of ascended gear). and the level cap increase is “not off the table”.

Personally I equivalate WvW with raiding somehow… (Though WvW can be done alone) Both are best done with a guild, both require coordination – someone leading and knowing what to do (whether it be the mechanics from WoW, or the zerg coordination/movement/engagement in WvW) and both at least to me provide endless hours to spend on (though I quit WoW…).

You could say WvW is just zerging, but there’s a bit of tactics/strategy/coordination that goes on commanding the zerg… If you think about it, real life wars would also be considered “zerging”… but they’re not – it’s silly.

“Everyone, including casual gamers, by level 80 should have the best statistical loot in the game. We want everyone on an equal power base. The rare stuff becomes the really awesome looking armours. It’s all about collecting the unique looking stuff and collecting all the other rare collectible items in the game: armour pieces, potentially different potions – a lot of that is still up in the air and we’ll finalize a lot of those reward systems as we get closer to release. And those come off of things like the bosses at the end of dungeons – the raids.”

You’re the one who asserted the claim that more dislike it than like it. You’re the one with the claim that has to prove it. All I claimed is that the forum represents a tiny minority of the player-base.

Fair enough, I attempted to prove my claim (sign). Once again, I can’t say for certain that the remaining population dislikes it, however I have more confidence in saying that it doesn’t. And if they don’t… there’s a problem with ascended and how it was handled… You’re going around saying that Oh they’re so easy to get, or at least acting like that…. when people generally seem to be unhappy about ascended gear….

Cookie for you, that you think it’s easy and think that the people on the forums should stop whining (when there seems to be a problem). Besides that, you’re the minority on the forums that actually likes doesn’t mind or even “likes” ascended gear.

If you’re claim is that the forums represent the minority, okay no problem there, carry on.

@Ahlen
Well glad you “like” or don’t mind ascended weapons…. you fall with the 21% of the people, or the 15%. As skewed as my poll may be…. I assure you, there’s more people that dislike this ascended business (or replace business with a cussing word).

Utter bull. The whiny forum minority doesn’t like ascended gear, but they are an insane minority. More than likely less than a single % of the entire player-base.

Prove that, please. Attempt to prove it at the very least.

I at least tried to show that the majority of the “forum minority”, dislike it.

Say that the forum is 1% of the population…. 65% of that 1% dislike it. Now I can’t conclude that the remaining 99% of the population dislikes its, but I am more confident than you in saying so.

Plus I’m not too sure you even want to show that people like the idea either, you’re just praising by yourself…. And as opposed to showing (in a veil attempt) that there are more people that like ascended gear than those that don’t, you’re trying to downplay what I have to say when really you’re saying no more and probably less than me.

1. Ascended Gear:
“Everyone, including casual gamers, by level 80 should have the best statistical loot in the game. We want everyone on an equal power base. The rare stuff becomes the really awesome looking armours. It’s all about collecting the unique looking stuff and collecting all the other rare collectable items in the game: armour pieces, potentially different potions…"
Sorry to use the quote against you, but I think many of us want just that. Reason I bolded “including casuals”, you sort of imply “easy” for the hardcore/medi-core. Now… don’t make it too easy…. just the same difficulty as getting exotics from doing dungeons. Easy solution: replace the exotic gear that’s acquired by dungeon tokens with ascended gear. Another thing is, you’ve said that you wanted the bridge that gap between acquiring exotics and acquiring legendaries… the problem wasn’t the lack of a gear tier nor implement one is/was the solution. The problem that has caused and is still causing the gap between tier X and legendaries is the RNG on precursors (which is the 2nd point).

2. RNG:
It’s better to work towards something than to hope it drops from the sky. Quite honestly I feel that my account has a bad marker on it, a kittenty seed for the random function… because I can count how many exotics (gear) I found on one hand since release… There’s really something wrong with the RNG in general.

3. More skills, on weapons:
perhaps have the user select between 3 skill options for their auto attack, for their 2nd another 3 skill options and so on (like with the utils)… I think it’s too much to ask, but heck, why not.

And w/e decision you go with, as in introducing to the game, please explain why.

TL/DR: It’s nice of them to get our hopes up, but try to restrain yourselves from getting your hopes TOO high.

It’s admirable what they’re starting to do, however it could backfire for both ends…

For instance, there might be some discussion in the future that the players will go completely against a feature(in a very broad sense, something that will be implmented) or what’s coming up. If Anet still decides to implement the feature, it will kitten everyone off on the forums – causing people to leave with solid proof the Anet didn’t give a ____ . Better yet, if they say, “Yeah, sure we won’t do it”, then do it anyways and say “Nothing is off the table” or other excuses used in past. Only reason I’m bringing this up is, the infamous manifesto, and how the game is not about grinding for best stats/gear (how they wanted everyone by 80 to have max stats… there’s a quote out there, I just don’t have it handy).

They also can’t please everyone, and if you fall into the minority in a discussion of the up comming feature, prepare to be dissappointed, or prepare to have a hoard (the majority) of people dissappointed (quitting/leaving/kittening). Another scenario that might happen there might be two roughly (or) equally weighted sides on a feature, one side against and one side for, not a lot of good will come from that either.

I guess all I’m saying is don’t be too happy/naive about what they’ve said in this or the comming posts. And just remember, you’re just a player, players rarely have voices to begin with… Anet is the maker of this game, really what they ultimately want will trumpt your voice/opinion. The only sense of “power” you can certainly feel over a game is the ability to leave/quit it (and oppositely, re-join it). Sure Anet is trying to pave the way into that (where your opinion/voice “matters”) with the “Collaborative-Development”, it doesn’t mean the way has already been paved and we’re already at the end of it. If this makes sense. You can say, we’re in a way stock investors for them, but even then, there’s a lot of gamers… and if they don’t appeal to this community…

It’s nice of them to get our hopes up, but try to restrain yourselves from getting your hopes TOO high. I’m not trying to sling mud at them here, just be weary of your’s, their’s and everyone else’s position, along with what already happened.
More then likely this post will be deleted….

1. Feedback. Anet MUST have feedback from your customers (players). Feedback must be more organized and readable for devs than a forum. In game feedback was great! Please just add this as option to the game. Many people will enable it and rate the content.

This. Essentially some way to poll feedback. For instance after a week (since LS last a week) of a LS release or after that LS release concludes, have an in-game poll just like during beta. Or put up polls for what’s coming ahead, things that might be “controversial” in this game.

For instance with the Ascended weapons (sorry, I know at least I and a number of other people, have a problem with it), make a poll to see if people like them (how they’re acquired, their necessity to the game itself). It can be a simple poll, “Like”, “Don’t care”, “Dislike” – and for dislike have some area for text input for the user to state why.

This could be also done on the forums, but again “vocal minority” issue comes up, so that’s why what was done in beta was good. Forums could have a polling system as well, but I guess for fun.

inb4 “Excalibur”.
And yup (imo) all this can be summed up in “jump on the train or leave”.

This.

They should create a satisfaction questionnaire at the end of each living story and/or asking players what do they think about some of the decisions taken, like it was done during the beta*

And this. HE SPEAKS THE TRUTH!!

I’ve (for my own sake, for fun) made a poll on ascended weapons a day or two before they came out and the poll lasted till after the day of their release (and it’s still there). The poll was very basic, “Do you like Ascended Weapons?” with 3 options, Like/Don’t care/Dislike. Although it’s “very” biased and “doesn’t represent the population has a whole”, it’s still fun to see that majority DISLIKE it. There could be various reasons for it, such as unnecessary power-creeping, time-gating (that’s what I’m against). But really, it’s been implemented, it’s not going anywhere, but it’s nice to see that I’m not the only one that dislikes it…. If the poll was actually accessible to everyone (say when they logged in after week or two of “ascended” experience), I’m still willing to bet that more people will hit the dislike then like+don’t care.

Check my signature for the poll.

Stats right now are:
Like 21% (172 votes)
Don’t care 15% (118 votes)
Dislike 64% (515 votes)
805 total votes

Levels in MMOs are meaningless

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Zero Day.2594

Levels serve their purpose as a tutorial with increasing difficulty.

I agree with this a bit. Plus it makes you explore all/some the areas in the world, so that can be cool the first time around – first time around. There should be something… where once you’ve leveled to max level, when you create a new character you can choose between leveling it (if you enjoy doing that) and just getting a max level’ed character.
Though this really defeats the purpose of having all the different story lines (choice in story lines, order of whispers/vigil/…), then again those that want to do that can re-level (have the choice to).

I mean you can get your new looks, if you have a credit card…
You could also get a ridiculous amount of gold and convert into gems – so your end game is grinding gold for new looks! So really they haven’t lied! grind gold -> get gems -> get new looks – TA DA! MAGIC – sarcasm/not really a fan of this either

I think there was a turning point in time with games… It seems now-a-days games focus (a bit too much) on how to get money out of their players, or potential avenues for let players buy their crap. (Good example, D3 – RMAH cuts that blizzard would get. At least they’re removing AH completely next year.)

Btw I think it’s safe to say that the manifesto can be considered non-existent. I think it was just a marketing gimmick… You can kitten all over their manifesto with the current game they have…

This game doesn’t have “certain build(s)” – not that I’m aware of, and if there are, your probably best of not disclosing them anyways.

Oh and the lack of henchies….

What would you do concerning loot and rares?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Zero Day.2594

So, as a community, what are your thoughts on how Anet could make rare gear and loot acquisition a fun, progressive, non-gambling yet intensely challenging and truly “Legendary” experience that won’t be immediately exploited and achieved by those with 100000000000 gold?

Share your thoughts please in a structured and constructive manner.

You didn’t need to make this post. There’s countless posts in general Discussion/Suggestions about this…. if you whole heartedly wanted just what I quoted above. I’m not trying to be a kitten, but people have been endlessly giving ideas on possible improvements or what they think about this subject.
Thing is, those opinions don’t matter much, since “they’re the minority”.

Holy Grind Wars 2!

Zero Day.2594

You don’t “need” exotics either. In fact, you don’t even “need” rares to do most of the content in this game. Lets put rares behind a stupid grind.

Hey, for that matter, you don’t really “need” to play the game at all.

And, it seems, ANet doesn’t “need” their original vision for the game anymore.

:D YES! someone else is realizing how troll it is to say “need”.

PLEASE NERF THIEVES MOAR KTHNX BYE

Even though I main a thief, I’ve lost all hopes for being buffed, or being left unnerfed every patch…. I kind of want to see how far they will break the class and and make it completely worthless before the nerfs and requests for nerfs stop…. (probably if they take the class out of the game, or make every attack an auto attack!)

October 15th balance/skills updates preview.

Zero Day.2594

Adding more anti-stealth is an improvement. And good to hear it implied that more is on the way.

It seems like this is always case with any MMO that has used instant invisibility cloaking as their stealth mechanic. The mechanic gets put in and then the game sees a constant series of necessary nerfs in an endless effort to balance it.

GW2 is not as badly off as some MMOs with stealth mechanics but it still has issues, as this mechanic will always have. Inviso-stealth is in the game so ArenaNet might as well try and deal with it as best as they can. Hopefully this will be yet another lesson to developers who think about continuing the tradition of this lamentable mechanic. I just wish this was another one of those MMO traditions that GW2 would have left behind.

Mind explaining how thieves and some mesmer would feel? Any buff’s for them to counter-act over-nerfing? or just beat on one class, without much explanation or re-balancing?

The Holy Trinity... is missed.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Zero Day.2594

I don’t think the trinity is missed, instead I think what is missed about it is what epic fights it would accomplish, and the coordination that would come with it. (Raids)
Personally, I’m against raids, simply because they take too kitten long, they promote elitism, and really aren’t needed. What needs to happen is improving boss mechanics. Perhaps adding multiple phases to a boss that only has one, adding more spells to a boss, adding mobs/adds that can’t be killed but can be disabled for 20 seconds if you throw a bolder at them… Bosses need to become more interesting.

My thoughts on Ascended/Direction of game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zero Day.2594

Zero Day.2594

:/ So unless I’m reading it wrong, they DON’T want max stats to be easily accessible at 80. We can play with our builds w/o max stats, cool, awesome!

Anyone know any good games coming out?

And by easily accessible, I don’t mean “please hand me the gear when I log in”… I mean not jumping through time gated loops trying to acquire a ton of material that potentially makes a small planet…. Exotics are “easily” acquired, there wasn’t a need to change that.

The time gap between Legendaries and Exotics, is not primary based on material, the main (unsolved) issue is RNG. RNG is what makes the gaint time gap between Exotics and legendaries. The fact that precursors are not really progressed towards, rather waited to one day be dropped/come out of the toilet/finally saved up 600-800 gold.

Playing GW2 is bittersweet

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zero Day.2594

Zero Day.2594

And you good sir is not looking at the whole picture of the reason to say ‘not needed’.

I say you don’t need Ascended, Exotic nor rare gear to participate or give oponents a challange.

In usuall MMO’s you need best or near best gear to do a dungeon or something, you need to be max level to do end game content or else people will kick you and so on.

So why “we” are saying ‘you don’t need to have Ascended’ is becouse you actually don’t need Ascended to do or enjoy what the game has to offer.

On the other hand atm you need to craft your desired Ascended weapon yourself, you can’t buy it or find it untill teuseday but as many has said is that you don’t need Ascended weapons to enjoy the game and be in par with most others.

So… if you read the second (mini) paragraph/chunk, I started by saying “He wanted (not needed…)”.
Yes, like you’ve pointed out, and like others have pointed you don’t need (not to be confused with want) ascended to do what’s already have been released.
However most people want ascended gear, may or may not be because they think they need it. Yes, you could look at what the OP has said “… Ascendeds, I know they would just be a drag on my teammates in WvW.” as him thinking he needs ascended gear to do WvW (otherwise he can’t)… When really it he wants to pull his weight in his team so he feels like he needs to get Ascended. So he wants (and to statify it, he needs) to get Ascended gear so that he can pull his own weight. He has a reason to both want and need it. (And wanting to do better(though it’s an artificial improvement, not skill wise), is a good reason, I would say)

In a blunt way:
I don’t NEED to eat… But I may want to eat so I can stay alive. So to stay alive I need to eat.

Perhaps some people, may not have a reason (or a want) for their NEED, which leads to people easily throwing around “You don’t need…”

Congrats,
you played 162.75 days….
game has been released for 379 days.
That’s 42.94% of 379 days, meaning you played roughly ~10.3 a day since release….
Now… either:
You shared the account.
You left it running non-stop sometimes.
or other options that would probably be too insulting.

I know this model works for them, or they seem quite happy with it, anyway, but that doesn’t mean all of us are happy about it. As I said in another thread, this is their business, if it works for them, okay. But it won’t stop me from expressing my disgust with their model.

They’re only going to be happy while the cash if flowing in….

Playing GW2 is bittersweet

Zero Day.2594

Since when do you NEED ascended items?

Lol. Ignorant posters are ignorant

Nothing is needed (you dont need to get exotics, you dont need to get yellows, blues…, you dont need to play the game). I think a lot of people like you troll with that word… You don’t NEED to post.

He wanted (not needed, although wanting arises needing something to stratify wanting it) his chars to be decked out. And yeah totally feel ya there…. Wanted my thief to be decked out with ascended, possibly a legendary, and be free to play around with builds (in PvE/WvW) and still have max stats….. Yeah that’s not going to happen I think, so I play sPvP.

Sucks ascended relies on time gated kitten, and legendary relies on RNG (precursor).
There should be a path (possibly, long, as intended) to obtaining those that always for you to make definite progress at your own pace, instead of being bottlenecked by time gates or RNG. (They may as well, remove precursors from the game, and have legendaries be purely drop/RNG based)

Legendaries... A joke?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zero Day.2594

Zero Day.2594

Yes Legendaries are a joke:

What did the Legendary say to the Guardian?
Nothing a legendary is an inanimate object.

What does a player call the mystic forge when trying to get a precursor for a Legendary dagger?
The Incinerator

What do you call a player trying to get a precursor for a Legendary shortbow?
The Dreamer

What did they player with The Dreamer tell his guild mates?
"Never play leap frog with a unicorn."

What did the new player say when he got his Legendary?
"Thanks Dad!"
