Btw DarkSyze, just because you can’t seem to see risk or challenge in certain things, doesn’t mean that they don’t exist – well they don’t exist to you at least.

Judging by how freely you keep saying (across multiple threads):

Thief Profession do not require solving “no brainer”
Thief Profession do not require skills,
Thief Profession do not require risk,
Thief Profession Stealth only requirement is reward, free reward for doing nothing.

I’m very confident in your abilities as a professional thief player that is able to win tournaments that involve money. You should consider picking this up, you could make a buck or two easily given what you say.

Oh, some other awesome reasons that tend to be brought up in QQ threads are:
It’s not fair.
It’s not challenging.

In the end it seems to boil down to “counterplay” and:

People get mad because there is no hard-counter to stealth. Despite there being more than enough soft-counters players want hard-counters because they believe those kinds of counters define balance.

Anyone rejecting the usefulness of soft counters and then proceeding to argue that there are no counters to stealth suffers from the STEALTHZORS syndrome. When you see someone your arguing against has this terrible condition, just let them win the argument because you will never be able to.

Although who am I kidding the rifle wielding engi in the trailer is prob enough proof that we are getting rifle, even though that clip is well before they started showcasing the new class weapons in the trailer so carry on.

I’ll be the first to make a ridiculous post on how the thief killed me off screen with the 1200 range.

The one time I chatted with Roy Cronacher in-game (revenant’s designer), he said they would probably reveal 2-3 specs each week, and only after that would they show everything else about the revenant. But it was clear to me that no definitive plans were set in stone yet.

I believe someone said each spec will take a week.

Anet did, during HoT’s announcement. Several weeks later, Roy replied to my question in-game, saying that they were aiming for 2-3 per week (if my memory isn’t wrong, it could have been 1-2 instead).

Hope so as specializations doesnt bring all that much to waste a week per one specialization when in reality there not much going for them from my pov. 1 new weapon, 6 new skills (heal, 4 utility, elite) and new traitline with slighty modified class mechanic doesnt cut the problem base classes suffer from.

Well the only reason why they would do 1 profession a week is to drag out some time. That’s really about it.
The specs definitely wont cure issues with the base classes, pretty sure they’ve given up on that, but instead will hopefully give some diversification to classes.

Judging by the forum QQ’s using a mini while in stealth shouldn’t put you at a disadvantage simply because your opponent wont know how to use it to their advantage.

If anything it might even be advantageous against some QQ’ers as it can be and opening distraction…

It’s called negative reinforcement.

And it doesn’t work in online matches.
Your are not your teammates mom and they don’t value your opnion.
If you don’t phrase your critique as delicate as possible people will think you are an elitist and ignore what you say or do the opposite.
Have you EVER seen someone react positive to negative critique in an online match?
I can’t fathom that people still don’t understand that lashing out at your teammates is the single most dumbest thing you can do in online gaming.

That or, I’m so rich that I popped open my wallet, pulled out my credit card, bought some gems, converted said gems into gold, and bought the legendary/precursor. :| The job that I do must be that legendary journey…

Buy me one please?! :O JK, but i i did the same for my mother for one of her christmas gifts. After 2.5 years of playing this game, and not getting a precursor drop, getting 13k achievement points and doing all the living story 1 and all the other content, i figure shes earned a legendary. More so than most with them… (Actually bought her a precursor and my dad and brother chipped in to help) Her reaction was well worth it xD

Not really judging, but I wouldn’t have spent $300-500 on an in game item, would have rather got her a different gift – if she’s into gaming, a graphics card or something/gaming keyboard+mouse/an awesome chair.


In reality, these legendaries are as legendary as you make them out to be. They’re just fancy skins, and at most their just one weapon with swappable stats.

Not sure how much lore there is behind them currently, definitely getting added in the expansion though. Nothing much (sure projectiles and skill effects change) happens when you use them, nothing epic. They don’t, and really can’t, have effects on builds.

How enforcing they are about this rule at less-to-non-competitive levels of play is uncertain.

Someone that’s doing a tournament certainly wouldn’t use macros, risking getting caught…
vs
Someone that plays casually…

I can see macros being useful in WvW situations, like having a macro for commander that types out “RALLY ON ME” in chat might be useful and not really harmful.

Always been curious on learning how (and if) keyboard macros are detected, and how they differ versus normal key presses. I assume one way to detect is the speed at which buttons are pressed, or the lack of delay between key presses.

Not sure what they think of the thief.
It doesn’t seem they mind stealth all that much, considering how much QQ it receives.
They always had some sort of attraction to traps and venoms, though never managed to get it to the point of being useful or where one would design a whole build around traps or venoms (well… venom share).

Pretty sure a revamp has always been welcomed. Just a lot of QQ’ers suggest very poor revamps that are more of a “let’s make it easier for me” revamps.

I’ve re-rolled too (well kept the thief…), to a guardian and a warrior. Leveling them in EotM was decent/fun, but once I hit 80 for some reason couldn’t really care to play them. Never took them into sPvP. They did feel a lot more tankier/robust even when they were up-leveled in kittenty gear and going full glass-cannon, and damage wise they did feel a bit less or about the same. But that’s just my experience in EotM while leveling – not even normal WvW. So yeah, quit shortly after getting both of them to 80.

I’m a bit interested in what they will do with the specs though. They did say that there will be more after the release, so kind of wondering how often will they release specs (probably 8 months to 1 year apart). Specs might be their way of adding diversity and hopefully balance to classes

Almost all of my characters are Charr. I enjoy playing as that race, truly.
With that said….
I don’t understand why a Charr character should be sexually appealing to a human player. Showing more fur while maintaining a battle ready appearance? Sure. But sexually? That’s disturbing.

Just give the benefit of the doubt that the OP meant seductive to the Charr race – which could be anything other than what we find seductive.

I doubt that charr standards of seduction would even match our own. For all we know, a charrs attractiveness could be measured by size of the horns, with no merit being given to the outfit at all.

But what if said female charr is trying to attract a handsome human thief that killed an Elder Dragon by joining the Tyria High Varsity Cheerleader team, only to be disappointed by the lack of seductive outfits in the Gem Store? The day the Exemplar outfits are released, is the day of redemption.

She could always transfer to TC Bayside High, where the cheerleader squad is ranked #1 NA, but her family currently doesn’t have the funds to pay for such a move. Still, Tyria High is a fine school for all RPers to attend. A charr can learn a lot about humans there.

Why would a female Charr be trying to attract a human?

Because interracial love has no boundaries?

Interracial love doesn’t have, no.

Interspecies love, however, definitely should have.

Apparently not on these forums.

Literally trying random combinations of letters. No idea how long it is, or if it’s a word or not… but I will keep at it.

Even if we figured out the password, I’m fairly certain we’d get kicked the second we entered. Though would be very interesting to get in there.

Fractal sword for me, got nice slick and lightweight look. I love bolt but don’t have mats and gold to craft this one now.

Hopefully that will change after expansion. Might require more to craft it (well the precursor) but at least the method will hopefully be straightforward and one in which you can measure your progression in a term other than how much gold you have saved up.

I don’t think the OP in that thread knew anything about how to fight thieves. I got about halfway through the first page and he says the thief was running S/P +SB, was stealthing continually, and had high condition damage and bleeds.

I don’t think it will be that long. The time between the original stress tests/betas and launch wasn’t that long. I expect release by june or july

There are a few things that could be done to somewhat normalize the SA/Acro divide.

  • Assassin’s Reward needs better scaling than it currently possesses.
  • Pain Response should be retweaked to remove Torment … especially when one considers that PR also handles other “pain” conditions (i.e. Burning, Bleeding, Poison).
  • I would not be adverse to adding another Might stack to Power of Inertia.
  • Fleet of Foot removes Cripple/Weakness. I’m a bit surprised that Immob. wasn’t added to that.
  • Assassin’s Equilibrium … seriously, it’s an insult to hand Revenants Stability-on-dodge, when AE should have honestly been the original Dodge-Stability.

Although, these are just from my opinion. I’d think others on this side of the forum jungle would mostly agree.

Yeah… I also noticed that when I was reading Revenant’s traits and noticed the 3 point master trait which resembled AE quite a bit… The duration on revenant’s version (from wiki) is 2.5 while the thief’s is 1.5. The trait for revenants is placed into a tank-type tree, ours is in acro…
O well, seems balanced.

While that’s true in most social situation that would happen in real life…
On the forums it’s a bit different. There’s nothing preventing the “immature” person from continuing with their actions and even attacking/provoking those that are “mature”. To add to this, besides those participating in the discussion right now, more can come and go at any time, and typically the amount of “immaturity” will increase. So while you’re trying to have some sort of meaningful discussion the toxic background noise (I don’t think mature/immature is too correct of a term) will continuously increase.

It’d be nice if some of you tried to have an actual conversation about it instead of:

  • Beating a poor defenseless horse while it tries to nap
  • Complain that Thieves are OP
  • Complain that people complain that Thieves are OP

:D But people like beating dead horses… Here let’s go to the general forums and open up a topic on capes or Cantha. Never mind, the thread about Cantha is still going on, don’t think it ever stopped.

People don’t really want change, instead they either come here to vent or to make suggestions in making their own (and like minded people) lives easier.

And complaining about the complaining, well after +2 years, their complaining is getting old.

You also won’t haven any sort of meaningful discussion because someone that’s buthurt will eventually step in to say something about their rash – and that’s when the thread will go down hill.

Stop bringing up backstab, it has no relevance in this conversation. This is for all skills in stealth. sb auto is one good example.. ranger stealth auto is another.

If i can comment: it is just not running away is a problem but it is the advantage of re-stealth is. Running away + stealth give thief huge advantage of reset fight anytime want.

Yes! i have problem with warrior doing same thing, so it is not just thief but the way Arena net design the class: which is very poor design.

Even thief player in my server say all the time that thief class is a boring class: because that is all they do- run, run, stealth, repeat. If i play thief class and was doing same: i would feel same way too

For other class who want to challenge thief who do that: get bored also and leave/quit game.

It is not bad thing for thief or any class to run away but to always have that option anytime they want: make it a problem, frustrate and boring.

Wvw is a place to Battle: if other class want to battle thief and thief decide to run away and battle a bit and run away and battle a bit: where is sense for thief be in wvw?
It do not make sense at all.

What are the objectives of WvW? “Battle in the Mists” is a bit non-specific, there are some overarching objectives to WvW. Choosing to do other things is at your own discretion.


As the above poster said, many classes depend on cool downs, your ability to stealth get away before dieing and come back quickly without cooldowns gives you a very very clear advantage. Like I said, in the duel you lose that advantage because who duels and runs away and who duels in places where I have to come hunt you down? I know where you are in a duel,I know you are someplace close, I know youre coming soon, Im in that duel to the end myself. Thats as completely different ballgame.

Not to mention how quickly in sPvP when you get in trouble, youre able to let go of that fight to add into another fight instead of being downed like you should have been if you were outplayed. If you were not so enabled to run away, you would be points scored by the better fighter, not get away and turn that into points scored for your team.

Also understand this conversation went to medi guard vs power thief because medi guard is a problem for power thief and somehow its a rebuttle to the bigger picture. Thats a very isolated conversation far away from the bigger picture.

Your notion of a duel, or a fight, might not be the same as the person that’s engaging you.
The means/tactics by which the opponent might attempt kill you are also probably not the same as yours. I don’t mean the skills/class difference, I mean the means/tactics employed by the player (say waiting for you to be low on HP, or afk, or other scenarios).

The plus 1’ing fights/making them unfair in sPvP, that’s what the class is meant for, or should I say one of the roles it does (plus 1’ing fights, and back capping). (This is the only part specific to thieves)

The not being able to run away bit when “outplayed” doesn’t really apply in this situation, as their intention is to kill/get points and not to die, by no means are they engaging you in a to-death-fight (a “duel”). If you’re fighting to the death in sPvP, and you know your death is certain and you’re not running away even though there is a clear way out, (as “honorable” as it is) you’re doing it wrong – at the end all that matters is the points, you died because you didn’t run away and so you granted your opponent points. They ran, escaped death, preventing you from getting points and likewise receiving any.

“Also understand this conversation went to medi guard vs power thief ", our conversation (between you and I) was never about thieves or any class in particular. The only place where I do talk about thieves I’ve clearly put (This is the only part specific to thieves) so you don’t assume everything else is thieves related. I just asked a simple question of why running away is a problem.

But stealth allows thieves to harass, that may not be you specifically, but youre ability to run away rather than die is more of a problem than you think.

Can you explain how running away is a problem?
