Oh please, people would complain just as much – probably more – if there was no access to stealth in combat, but we were able to be perma-stealthed while running around.

Assassin’s where complained about in GW1, they didnt have stealth…

Well mainly, it’s that they want a “fair” fight, and not being bursted in 2-3 seconds… Despite the context of that burst build…

It’s irrational to not want fights to be over in 2-3 seconds? I get the feeling that most people who play thieves/stealth classes are people who just didn’t quite make the cut in FPSs. o.O

Well… for instance the BoA assassin from GW1, while they were able to burst someone down in 3 seconds, they had about 45-60 second CD where they were completely useless and anyone with a weapon equipped could kill them. But yeah let’s just focus on the 3 second burst. (And you could mitigate it…)

And about not being good at FPSs, on the contrary… those that die to thieves probably didn’t make the cut, because they didn’t react/dodge/or at the very least move about… And would just eat backstabs

Regardless. Sure it was “made” to tear people up then be useless. But you think that’s good design? That sounds absolutely terrible to play and play against…

Eh, it did what it was meant to do, assassinate people…
It could be countered (various barriers/whatever they were called), or it could be caught during it’s weak moment. Yet, it was deemed OP, simply because of the 3 second burst that it could do. Oh and, last I recall, that game didn’t have 1v1’ing either… So jumping in and kill 1 person and then dieing…

(not sure how ‘game’ came out as ‘came’, but corrected… and underlined…)

Flying turrets would be nice, would generate so much QQ’s…. though we saw those turrets flying beside some (medium) class with a hammer….

Marks would make sense for a “sniper”…. I just don’t see them creating anything new for the utils, as in they will recycle something from another class…. Unless those marks already exist, then yeah very possible.

Yeah I know it was a joke.
But I clearly remember them saying the some class will get access to shouts… Might or might not be thieves. It wouldn’t make much sense having someone/something stealthy “shout”… Then again, it is a game, and it is ANet. We will just have to see. I’m just preparing for/thinking of what’s the least desirable for me – that is torch with shouts. “HEY GUYS! I’m HERE!!!!! <waving the glowing torch>”.

Well either the thief or the engie is going to get shouts… they did mention that some class will get access to shouts… and it’s not the warrior since each class get’s access to another classes “unique” skill types (guard got traps, mesmer got wells)…

In GW1 we had Assassins and they were equally annoying. Granted the didn’t stealth like the Thieves we have now, rather they had similar characteristics for heavy damage output and great evade. Beyond that there were skills that made them invulnerable and difficult to hit. I hated Sins in GW1 and I hate Thieves in GW2. They aren’t going anywhere and we can only hope for a nerf which will hopefully decrease the number of people playing such a cowardly, useless profession.

Proceed to bash me as you will forum posters. I frankly don’t care. Thieves are trash.

GG anet - Stupid Trap

I’m a bit more worried about their Heavy Light trait in combination with Dulled Sense and Zealot’s Aggression… A knockdown/push back every 7 seconds (because the guard could intentionally, say, dodge roll into you) then the target is crippled for 4 seconds, amplifying the damage as the guard rolls back a bit more (or walks back) to create 600 unit distance for Pure of Sight. All the guard needs to do is count out loud or in their head 7 seconds after the first knockdown, or watch the cripple + 3 more seconds, to rinse and repeat the combo.

Though who knows how that will work in practice.

:D Either way, I got a level 80 warrior and guarding, and probably going to make a revenant too.

They would never make a specialisation that doesn’t fit at least one mode name are just names, thief couldn’t have gotten traps because we already have them and they will be better after traits changes. Since it’s supposed to be a mix, with thief rifle I expect thief+war.

We’ll get rifle and shouts!

“BOOM! HEADSHOT”-Increase next ranged stealth attack damage by 50%

“NO-SCOOOOOOOOPE”-+50% Crit Chance for 7 seconds

“GET REKT!”-Crit hits apply 1 stack of vulnerability (10 seconds) for the next 10 seconds (no icd). Break stun

“Come at me bro!”- Taunt up to 3 enemies for 3 seconds

I think those would be sufficiently troll-y enough and fitting for the thief.

As funny as that sounds, there’s is a decent chance, considering they did say something about some class getting access to shouts.

And yeah thieves getting traps wouldn’t make sense much by what they said, but for some odd reason (maybe the introduction of ascended tier) I don’t believe them (maybe the weird nerfs, and the weird buffs/adjustments) much anymore.

Meh. At least gw2 isn’t the only game in the world.

Well…
Bright side is we’re not the ones getting traps as utilities. The not so bright side is that the DRAGONHUNTER didn’t really seem awesome, even less so then the Chronomancer – which didn’t really impress me either (o well, high expectations I guess), so…. not really looking forward to the thief’s elite spec reveal – we’re either going to get a rifle with a dumb name or a torch with a dumb name. Getting a rifle with a cool name could happen but probably has a less chance, and a greatsword with a cool name is just not going to happen.

Why do people care about names so much? And what’s so bad about “Dragonhunter” anyway? You hunt dragons in a game about hunting dragons… it’s alright.

We’re all dragon hunters in the game’s sense…. The name is just cheesy sounding, besides that it’s giving to a guardian… Not a deadly menacing warrior of some sort, but a noble knight in shining armor…

If you can manage to play those games, you will develop a very thick and bullet proof skin online.

Given that this is a Thief forum, your “correction” is incorrect.

Necro is getting a greatsword…that is not a nerf.

A Thief would be happy to have a greatsword even if it doesn’t come with weapon skills — weapon skills will only give ArenaNet reason to nerf Thief so might as well not have them in the first place. No skills, no nerfs = happy Thief.

Lol, oh man, I think that’s what DarkSyze was going for, no traits (or blank ones) = no nerfs.

Err, pistol has 1050 range with Ricochet.

Maybe he should have said then, “Thief lacks 1200 range”, but then someone else would have said, “You have 1200 underwater!” then someone else would have said “you have 1500 step!” or “You have Scorpion Wire!”.. or my favorite “you have stealth therefore gtfo”.

Basically, there is always a troll to say something trollish, and it doesn’t change the fact that some of us want 1200 range.

Hopefully anet agrees someday.

But we have a 10,000 range trap…

Don’t forget those catapults either… Well over 1200 range.

Thieves get rifles, to be used as 2-handed warclubs.

Yes, because they will give us just the rifles – without the ammo.

Personally I want a greatsword.

Necro is getting a Greatsword so I doubt they will double up and the GS doesn’t fit thematically, really.

Everyone is under the assumption that if one class got a weapon then no other class can get the same weapon. As far as I can recall, they haven’t explicitly said so. It makes as much sense as a sword (which we already have, and hey look it works!), a torch (hope not though), or even the rifle (which will probably be the least game changing).

(Hidden Assasin- This trait no longer grant might when you gain stealth)

Adept: Slowed Pulse- Grant regeneration if you have two or more stacks of bleeding.
(Slowed Pulse- Grant no longer grant regeneration if you have two or more stacks of bleeding. It is now restrict to two stacks of bleeding)

Adept: Shadow’s Embrace- Remove conditions periodically while in stealth.
(Shadow’s Embrace- no longer remove conditions periodically while in stealth)

Adept: Infusion of Shadow – Gain initiative when you enter stealth.
(Infusion of Shadow- No longer gain initiative when you enter stealth)

Master: Hidden Thief – Stealing grants you stealth.

Master: Patience – Regain initiative faster while in stealth.

And some of them I don’t get it. He’s changes are basically making some of the traits blank or without any effect.

Never mind, I clued in. Pay attention QQ’ers, DarkSyze get cuts straight to the point, he doesn’t sugar coat things in sweet tears – No, he gets straight down to business of reducing the thief to dust.

10/10, more QQ’ers need to make suggestions like these.

And congratulations on finally making it onto the Nerf Wish List, DarkSyze.

Your hard work and dedication over the past few weeks was outstanding. You even improved and began to provide bolded quotes of wisdom. Solid progress. I would suggest adding in poetry and metaphoric analogies to further improve your work. Overall though, well done!

But if you really want this cowardice to cease, you’ll help the thief community redesign the profession so stealth stops becoming a necessity rather that turning it into a free lootbag.

That’s not going to happen. The expansion is/was the most opportune time for a class redesign, and they haven’t done that. The elite spec will most likely be an extension of the class rather then a whole game changer, as in we will still be squishy and still reliant on stealth/evades to survive more then likely, this is judging by the Chronomancer spec that the mesmers just got…

Long story short. QQ’ers are either going have to deal with it, or they can leave the game. “Whiteknights” are either going to have to get used to the QQ’ers (and enjoy their tears), or leave/not read the forums.

I understand people come on the forums mainly to vent when they make QQ threads… And really that’s the most you will ever get.

If it’s not exploited in spvp then it won’t be fixed, that’s usually how things go anyway. The trick is really only useful for catching people in WvW.

Which seems to be the main source of QQ’s… That is WvW.

Today i had a very interesting experience that i would like to share especially on this thread.

As i was going about my business, i noticed a landscape company cutting branches from this huge tree that been causing alot of problems..

As i watched them, i stepped in and ask one of the workers, why not just pluck the tree from the ground and problem solved.

His answers will not surprise you, “it is is worth it!, as long we can keep an eye on the branches, it’ll be okay”

Not even close. To the tree trimmer, it is profitable for them to come back several times a year to trim the tree. There is no profit on “trimming” the Thieves because the nerfs we received is similar to “plucking out the tree.”

New buffs, new opportunities but still worried about future nerfs. If the buffs stay as it is then, we’ll definitely have a better chance winning 1v1s. Oh and you can now crit and apply condis on turrets. lul bleeding turrets.

1. No one but yourself can answer that. If you enjoyed it before you will probably enjoy it again.

2. 1v1’ing, I want to say they do really well. But say a guard of equal or better skill is up against you, then most likely it will be a lose. At the same time you could ditch the fight fairly easily – which irritates people and causes them to QQ on the forums. At the same time, 1v1’ing is not a real game mode and has barely any purpose in all other game modes.

3. I believe the very last patch we got, we got a minor buff – a 5 seconds cool down reduction on all venom skills. So, we can no longer say we’re constantly getting nerfed. Though, regardless of the past… There are trait changes coming for all profs, and there are a bit of buffs in there for everyone.

O right, almost forgot.

Frankly I think that a rifle thief is a terrible idea. One of our most important abilities, steal, puts you right in melee. Unless of course the new specialization will change this mechanic, it will definitely do more harm in my opinion. Frankly I’d rather see a specialization that makes them more of a swashbuckler (Axe.. Or possibly O-h Sword) possibly trading full on BERSEKER for a more melee competent.. Tankish kind of thing. Because honestly it seems like 90-100% of the builds that are for thieves are for ripping your opponent apart. Granted main hand sword is kinda like that, but adding in a rifle may just completely hurt the purpose of a longbow ranger.

Thief specialization will be something like assassin so forget this “Rifle is not thief” or “steal” bull because it will be a different class in essence

How will it be a different class? Aren’t Rangers still messing around with pets as a Druid? And, the Chronomancer doesn’t seem all that far removed from the base Mesmer, it just seems like a nice patch to that class.

Pretty sure that’s just for hype-building, a sales pitch, at least based on the Chronomancer.

All these things have absolutely nothing to do with the mechanical knowledge of PvP, buildcrafting or the in depth intricacy of countering your enemy

Ssshhhh the masses will start getting ideas above their station if you start saying things like that (we don’t want another revolution on our hands).

Don’t worry it will still fly past their heads. Plus they need some sort of a way to measure their… um… “skill”… yes, so they won’t acknowledge it anyway.

Man this is awesome, he’s starting to rhyme a bit and he’s doing almost the same kind of quoting that Burnfall has.

I still liked Sanduskel’s “I have 5 thieves and NONE of them are perma stealth” more.
Burnfall’s zealous, haiku-like poetry is still eyecandy though

Yeah… never understood why one would need/want to have 5 thieves alts. Wonder what ever happened to them, did they l2p or did they just quit altogether?

So far we’re under the assumption that no two classes can get the same new weapon. But it’s just an assumption. They haven’t explicitly said that it can’t happen, at least not that I’m aware.

Sorry, I didn’t read the entire thread, since there appears to be intermittent trolling/bickering. I’m just now trying to re-learn how to Thief after not playing for nearly a year.

Is it possible that LR could be changed for HoT? Or is that not very likely?

Current iteration of changes show no changes for LR. It’s very unlikely there will be a change.

If you’re optimistic, LR will be swapped with Shadow’s Rej for the GM spot…since some players believe that LR is really, really useful.

Since you guys think it does more harm than good, the only suitable trait that fit the spot is -falling damage trait. Otherwise it’d be unfair trade lol… (leave the -20% deception cd inside that adapt trait and pull falling damage out)

The possibility is endless.

Yeah, it’s a bit too early to tell.

There will be the trait changes coming before HoT.
HoT will have elite specs.
And hopefully after HoT a re-balance due to the elite specs. (Might not happen though)

So, stick to whatever it is you’re playing now till at least the expansion.

There are changes coming to to the trait system as a whole, some are considered to be buffs ( of astronomical proportions by some). So yeah we’re getting buffs.

Will it be enough changes to bring you back? Not sure.

SA isn’t OP currently. If it were, most thieves would be running it.

Shadow’s Rejuvenation heals more than Mug. Stealth can miss and steal can miss, so missing excluded, Shadow’s Rejuvenation has more potential healing. It is a healing trait. That is its purpose. It is there to heal you when you need it, and to not be utilized when it is not needed, thus, in a fight it can just as easily heal less than mug as it can heal more.

The issue:
1) Thieves don’t take Mug for a heal. The heal can save us, and it’s a nice addition, but it’s taken primarily for the extra spike damage. You also pick up an extra 100 power at the cost of 2 trait points. Shadow’s Rejuvenation does not deal any damage, and getting it costs 2-6 points depending on how much it contributes to your investment into that trait line. You gain no offensive stats, only toughness and healing power which benefits regeneration if you take it, and Shadow’s Rejuvenation itself – thief heal skills scale poorly with healing power.
2) With more power and spike, you may take a few hits less due to killing your opponent that much faster – that is damage not taken. Avoiding damage while fighting is more beneficial than taking it and trying to heal through it.
3) To receive the heal from Mug, you must only land Steal which you would do anyway. To heal from Shadow’s Rejuvenation, you must stop dealing damage to sit in stealth, giving your opponent time to recover as well.
4) If Shadow’s Rejuvenation does indeed heal less than Mug would have in a fight, then it does not mean it is less healing than Mug, it just means you didn’t need the trait in that fight, which means it was wasted. Mug is never wasted.

Thieves don’t run SA “currently” for several reasons:

1. The offensive traits are scattered between Critical Strike and Deadly Art. Anet solved the problem by moving all the good traits to Deadly Art, and make Critical Strike neglitable, so thief only ever need to choose DA now (unless you’re in PVE)

2. Thief is one of the classes that benefits the most from choosing 3 full traitlines. Thief couldn’t choose SA currently only because they lack trait points to go BOTH offensive and defensive. Now with 3 full lines, they’re able to go offensive and defensive at the same time, thus making SA’s defensive much more accessible.

3. Combine the feature of DA becomes the to-go trait and Critical strike becomes not needed at all, thief can easily grab full SA without any consequence or drawback. They can be even more survival with the newly buffed Acro or stay to their pvp/wvw trickery.

4. Anet basically makes SA a brain-dead traitline by giving you EVERYTHING, without the need of making choices. You get even MORE regen from going to stealth, you get initiative, you get -50% damage, you get cleanse all in one build, no choice has to be made. (Unless you want to go for the new venom build, and ONLY if you go for venom build)

5. All trait stats are merged to gears, so thief wouldn’t “sacrifice” dps to go for SA. Thieves are reluctent of choosing SA currently ONLY because they need to keep their dps by choosing critical strike and grab all the steal traits, that they don’t have points for SA. After the stat change, thief does not need to worry about losing dps anymore.

Consider all the factors above, that’s why the new SA will become OP.

Criticize me all you like, I understand thief player will like themselves to be OP in future. Who wouldn’t want their main class to be OP?

Yet in another post you claim you can kill virtually any thief outside one very specific build.

I do not see any of your concerns are credible given, in spite of significant enhancements to rangers you ask for yet more even as you claim thieves will be OP.

In short it all self serving and no real concern for balance. You want your ranger to be able to kill that last specific build with the same success you claim you have with all the others.

Yet you show 0 example as to why it’s not credible, proving you’re even less credible than me. People in the forum, especially those white knight defender of the class tend to disregard other people’s point of view by providing nothing, derilling the topic to something else (like other people’s post in other sub-forum), despite we already given our reasoning in great detail,

It doesn’t matter though. My reasonings are to be shown to the developers, not you.
