From all the info given so far about the game, I personally don’t feel like it’s worth $50.

That and some of the decisions they’re making:

- Recent news of the difference between ascended and exotics becoming 5% instead of 10%. I never liked your decision in implementing it in the first place, increasing it further… ha… if that wound finally sealed up for me, you’ve managed to rip it open and spry extra bit of salt on it.

- Holding sales a of couple times, selling the game for ~$10 to attract a crowd. Then putting up kitten for the expansion with the core game for “free”… yeah… brilliant move (sarcasm). The only way you can escape this one is by saying, “Oh yeah we only did this for E3, here’s the expansion w/o the core game”, and even then… why not hold yet another sale having gw2 for $10 and the expansion for $20-$30. The way you’ve done it now is just sleazy, even if you later on release a core-less expansion bundles.

Feel free to infract/ban me, that will just nail the coffin of me not ever buying it.

Ascended Armour now 10% difference, Thoughts?

10% is still miniscule
10% more stats on ascended wont make you 10% more powerful, since a huge part of your stats come from the 1000 baseline anyway.

I’m guessing you’re still wearing yellows? For the same reason… since I mean, the difference between yellows and exotics is miniscule…

Same, I’m not buying it for $50.
Drop the core game from those bundles and drop the prices as well, then I will probably buy it (unless you keep it at $40-50).

Hahah.. plus with the recent ascended gear changes you guys made (5% – > 10% stat difference), I’m even more turned off supporting this game.

Yeah. Zergs running with burning builds, apply 5 second burn of 10 stacks = dead anything xD

sad, isn’t (it)? the bias is so unreal… i don’t think i ever got trolled so hard before and i played quite few games in the past lol

on the bright side i caaaaan’t wait to see all those tears from people crying about s/d…. people think stealth is bad? they didn’t face real monster in masses yet xD

I Hope the CnD change is not affected in WvW. Cloak An Dagger: This ability has been un-split and its damage normalized. Damage of this ability has decreased by ~17% in PvE and increased by 25% in PvP.

What does unsplit mean in that context?

Who knows

Pretty sure WvW is considered PvE… as in they share the changes.

as an engineer i can say dont worry to much, if an engineer wants to give up swiftness just to counter you then just run away because hes not going to catch you anytime soon, that aside lets take another look at that trait, its a passive proc that activates when it hits an enemy in stealth, its going to be pritty easy for yas to counterplay that assuming they take it which is a pritty big if.

if i were you guys id be more worried about engineers taking runes of air with medkit so they have perma swiftness and all the on proc traits they can get so when you do backstab them you kill yourself literally.

essentially if you guys keep playing the way you do then you wont have to worry about this trait, except for occasional 1v1 hero.

the problem is not 1v1 really… you shouldn’t 1v1 engi as thief anway

the problem with that particular trait it removes team support thief would bring to team… no refuge, no 50% dmg redux for teammates :|

Please don’t apologize.
The problem isn’t about how difficult it is to play a thief.

The problem is a Master thief vs a Master [insert any class here] is going to be advantage to the thief, with the exception of a Master Guardian.

Of all the classes, a Master level Thief holds the advantage.
Only a Master level Guardian can proudly say that they have the edge over a Master level thief.

Thieves are OP to every other class except Guardian.

All classes under the control of superb Master level players, Thief comes out on top in every encounter except vs Guardians.

Of the 3 or 4 thieves I defeated in the video below, do you know that I would have died to thieves 30 or 40 times in the same period.

I am not a Master level Necro, but those thieves that killed me were not Master level thieves either. Thieves just hold too many cards against every class except Guardians.

Coming from a mesmer PoV,I have actually watched most thieves fail against survival rangers, cele’s and cele engies. I have watched in a vacuum thieves do wonderful and horrible things to mesmer’s, warriors and especially necro’s. And I have seen them fail just as hard vs warriors, ele’s,ranger’s, mesmer’s, and engies.

Haven’t seen to many good necro’s in T2 as of late. Maybe they are all running around in EU :I or a zerg

No, no. We must base the game on vacuums. You would think when the concept of conditions would enter one’s mind when we discuss optimal conditions, but no.

But conditions are never consistent and do not help us accurately describe how totally OP the thief is.
SO we discuss vacuums instead, cause it’s easier.
I know this , our lord and crusader dark taught me.

In a vacuum against critters, typically squirrels… That’s the only way to balance a thief.

That was just a concept sketch if you will… Within it you could also add in power builds and condi builds in a similar fashion.

Congrats! You’ve found a class that counters the thief, in this rock-paper-scissors game. Or do you want both rock and paper to beat scissors?

Ideally something like this should be balanced, or at least one variation of balance:
Heavy class kills Medium class,
Medium class kills Light class,
Light class kills heavy class.

Then since there’s (going to be) 3 profs per armor class, you can do something like:
Guardian hard counters thief – soft counters other mediums,
Thief hard counters mesmer – soft counters other lights,
Mesmer hard counters guardian – soft counters other heavies.

Among each armor class you can then do something like (medium for instance):
Thief soft counters ranger,
Ranger soft counters Engineer,
Engineer soft counters thief.

That’s the rock-paper-scissor way of balancing.

This is just a concept, and not actually implemented in the game. Just a kittening idea, don’t jump at me saying that it’s not true – I know that.

Just because someone feels something needs to be nerfed doesn’t mean it needs to be nerfed. Anet is not going to listen to these requests anymore because thieves can just reroll to another profession like before. And that’ll look bad on their numbers.

If by numbers you mean gem and/or HoT box/key sales numbers, then yes.

I would kind of guess (or at least hope) that they have a way to figure out how many active (however you manage to define what “active” is) thieves are out there, what percentage of the total active population… And until that precentage reaches a certain threshold (oh I don’t know … below 5%?), I doubt that they will give a flying kitten about why there aren’t many of that class being played.

Who knows the percentage it is right now…

Considering it’s 8 profs right now, in an ideal/perfect environment where every prof is played equally, each prof would have 12.5% of the (active – however you manage to define that) population, once revenant comes out it will be 11.11% … Last infographic (https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/guild-wars-2-the-first-year/) showed the lowest percentage to be 10% (not certain if active, or just created)… so yeah… if they’re going off those same numbers, GW2 world is/was in a pretty cheery place.

Pls nerf Peow peow´s thief (if he has one?). He seems to be so overpowered contrary to everyone else. Its unfair. He oneshots everything while in stealth, evading and being invincible. And not forgetting that all of his ports are always working (to close for steal ftw).

I’m not sure either. Well I do have some idea of what I am, though who knows how you guys perceive me. Though, I can say this much, I’m not annoyed by the complaining, rather amused… And yeah I haven’t been banned, maximum I’ve got was infracted to the point of having a flood control of 30 minutes (currently sitting at 120 seconds). Also, I hope you’re not offended by me adding your post to the wish list, I get that it’s a joke.

:D As for DarkSyze, I think I “won” that conversation with him. Kind of interested in him making a thief and actually trying to play it for a month or so – not like, make it, go a couple of matches, then come back and say “OH I WON A MATCH, SO OP”…. no… actually play it for like a solid month, doing pve wvw and spvp, then share his experience…

This thread still exists? Clearly it represents the embers left after a flame has tried to been stamped out, like the thief community, therefore it needs to be nerfed, you thieves deserve nothing, not even the leather on your filthy backs

That is more than likely to happen when they’re done dicing up our stolen items.

Heh… Yeah I was thinking of taking this “thread” and making it into a website+app… which will be away from ANet’s reach… Plus that way I can edit/clean things up…(as in formatting/preventing derailment… so on) – Also correlate to how many changes have been made that have satisfied/partially satisfied a request. Generate word clouds (should be fun…)… get a list going for montages/“OP” videos (like that mlg no scope 360 range kill). At the very least crawl this thread and save it…. so i can parse it later… oh man… ideas keep coming, make a web crawler that looks for the words “thief” and “nerf”… Provide stats on how many nerfs/buffs/neutral changes have been made…

All that wrapped up in a troll/humorous theme.

at the same time, i doubt it will be used/visited much…. as in a minority come to the forums and a fraction of them might go to the site.

As an experiment myself and 4 friends all qued up in spvp kitten d/d thiefs. We roamed the map in groups of 2 with 1 guy holding home and literally 1sec comboed the enemiy team. Players were disconnecting because what we were doing was unstoppable, and simply overpowered.

Suggestion:The first thing that must be done if we wish to have a good game, is to cut all weapon evades from the thief class, as they currently have enough evades through dodge rolls and utilities, as well as vigor.

The second step to making a more balanced thief, is to give each class that isn’t a thief a new ability. This ability will counter stealth for a few seconds. Lets say the thief is DP and spamming powder/heart seeker or DD with CnD. Well stealth lasts up to 5 – 10 sec, therefore we make a skill that reveals invisible units for 4 seconds on a 20 second cooldown. This skill will be called eye seeker and a hard counter to perm stealth builds. Every class but thief will have this as an optional utility.

The last step to rid the game of this Overpowerd character and to balance the class, would be to scale attack speed according to enemy armour. The thief currently puts out to much damage to fast, with a quick attack speed and 100% crits with hidden killer. If an enemy has high armour, the thief will then be dealt a frost effect after hitting from stealth, this effect would reduce attack speed per strike. The effect will stack up to 4 times, reducing attack speed by 25% each stack.

Are you sure it wasn’t their connection…? It would explain a lot of things…

It’s already been a couple months since the last balance patch. So…? I don’t exactly want to hold my breath, just like I don’t want to hold my breath for you learning to play – it’s been 3 years?

Oh definitely.
By the way, the plural form of thief is thieves.
