Ruins of Surmia
I’m pretty sure shroud also scales with toughness. I didn’t until I noticed the new minor trait that improves toughness while in shroud so it wouldn’t be impossible for that to be the case. Well someone can easily test it, go full knights and see if you take the same amount of damage from a skill in and out of shroud.
Didn’t enfeeble trait get nerfed hard too
But that’s not the question nor the topic of this thread.
Just cause you can command or participate in WvW it doesn’t mean you isntantly belong to the meta. The meta is what is best and engineer isn’t in there for WvW. That doesn’t mean you can’t make such profession work, but it’s just not as good as the profession you would replace. The meta is what is perceived to be best. Every time I hear someone preach GWEN I shudder hoping they aren’t on my server. GWEN is optimal most of the time but there are some builds and strategies that break the meta.
That… is a contradiction. You cannot counter every possible scenario anymore than you can do open field 20v80 and expect to survive. GWEN however is optimal most of the time as you say, hence its the best composition. Strategy can break any group so that isnt really a consideration.
Same reason the thief is considered the best roamer, except he pops like a balloon if he meets someone built to counter it. It doesnt change the fact he is still the best roamer.
How is strategy not a consideration? To run your GWEN you use certain strategies yes? Create a party with 2 engi, 1 ele and a thief. Follow the zerg but split off when the zergs hit heads. Use the terrain and where your tag is at to unload your aoe while the thief keeps stragglers away from you. As long as you don’t get caught in bad positioning with no way out you just bombed the enemy zerg with stupid amounts of damage while able to maintain pretty much any field you want.
This is what I meant by what is perceived to be best. I’m one of the guys who doesn’t understand why I rarely see a ranged and a melee tag in the same zerg. I don’t understand why more players don’t party up to split off from the main zerg staying with it and damaging the enemy zerg while being self sufficient.
The backline (the EN in GWEN) don’t stay on the tag, neither do the gank squad
I think it should be around 85 since the cap was lowered by 15% and before it seemed to hold around 100 people of a single server.
Cap is normally 133 if I remember correctly but I also vaguely remember there being info on how siege takes up player slots, might be mistaken on the second bit lol was so long ago.
The transparency is refreshing for sure, so much so that it even made me wonder do Anet really know this guy is telling us all this info? its kinda out of character really, but its a very welcome change.
Anyway, keep up the good work Stephen, some of us have been praying for a cure to skill lag for many years, playing through it because of a sheer love of the game and of WvW, forever living in hope that one day large battles will play perfectly, maybe, just maybe, that day is drawing near.
I know right lol I’m kinda worried he’s going to be silenced as soon as the other devs find out how straightforward he’s being with us xD
I am just curious how our server can have a queue, yet be so grossly outnumbered at the same time on EBG. There are no guilds doing roams, no groups not accounted for, yet easily 2-1 outnumbered. How does population balancing work (or fail to)
(not a complaint, a question)
Lol if this is happening to you right now as a one off it could be quite a funny unfortunate turn of events. If you look on the lag thread the map cap just got reduced recently to temporarily help with the lag. If your opponent was already above the new map cap during the change and your server wasn’t lol it could result in your current situation.
i mainly do pve, and on really rare occasion i go into WvW. Never PvP mainly because i suck at it
. Also if it helps with the advice i’ll be running fractals and World Bosses with a friend who plays a necro and he’s a condition build.
Hmm well if its pve you want to do and mainly blobbing/zergbusting in wvw you should be using a power build. When it comes to necro especially in the above two settings you want to go full damage and you can rely on positioning and clever shroud dancing to provide you with the survivability.
Anyway do you have a preference over minions or wells? Those are the two builds closest to what works in a casual sense after tweaking the traits or are you looking for the most optimal build?
If youre not comfortable with being full dps and really want to be tanky then go knights, don’t worry about your health necros have the highest tier of base health. Also you need to get rid of the siphon stuff, not because im taking away your sustain but because if you look at the numbers it amounts to nothing. Doing the math you can see its something like the siphons are outdone even by the regen boon. Just a tip though, pve in this game results in that the best way to increase your survivability is simply by killing faster.
(edited by Zetsumei.4975)
For Necro, you probably will want to switch to a power wells build for ZvZ battles.
I really want to find a condi build that work work ZvZ. I dropped too much gold in ascended gear to switch…
:/
Lol if you’re insistent on using condi for zergs your best bet I guess is commander sniping as he pushes or acting as a gank squad and sniping backline after using spectral grasp then laying a burst rotation on them lol good luck
When the hell was condi necro the meta in wvw lol…..
I wouldn’t be surprised back in those times xD ahhh the good old omnomberry compote days with the dagger dagger ele commanders
3400 armor… What are you fighting to deal 1400 aoe attack? EotM raids ftw? That’s full soldiers on medium armored classes. I can’t even reach that much armor in the builder on engi.
Why do you project your inabilities on others?
I have been PIN of a build group on T1 since release, and those are perfectly reasonable stats (I generally exceed those numbers slightly)Try putting the builder aside once and a while, and have some actually experience with a profession, before you attempt to tell folks what it can or cannot do please.
No I’m looking at the facts what a class can do and what it can’t. With that I took the 2 builds you linked and compared them. These responses you’re giving to me are quite leading towards personal attack so might wanna tone it down a little will ya.
Facts? No, not really. Your making very many statements that display a lack of understanding of the profession as a whole.
It is not a personal attack to inform you that you that you are making inaccurate statements.
Personal attacks, in my opinion, is more in line with your dishonest claims that they stated “replacing” warrior with engineer. Can you quote specifically where anyone claimed that in this thread at all?
Seems to me, that reasonable posters are suggesting using them in conjunction with. As most of us do now. You are the only one speaking in terms of “either or”
Aoe debuffs -> aoe invurnability ??
Invurnability is a buff
Since when can an engi give allies invurnability?I think it was a typo and he meant vulnerability.
The water fields are okish
“okish”?
What kind of guild group are you in in which waters are simply “okish”???
aaaand it begins – arguing about arguing.. thread derailed
also he was talking about how the engi waterfields compare to ele waterfields not the effectiveness of water fields in general
Super laggy today. I also have noticed massive rubber-banding/lag spikes since the airplane update…
The lag has been a problem ever since the stability change.
yes ever since the stability patch… but that doesn’t mean stability is causing it but since that monday patch 2 weeks ago…
Actually the lag has been a problem for over a year (release?) with every patch, even the ones designed to fix it, making it progressively worse. Many members of my guild could “spidey sense” when another guild was around by the loss in frame rate and a slowing effect (lag) on their connection. Since the stability patch however it has gotten much much worse and now DC’d are becoming the norm and not the exception. Our entire guild of 20ish had at least one player DC every 10 minutes on reset, and one very unlucky fellow DC’d 4 times and rage quit.
xD you remind me of what my late leader used to say “wait wait… blob sense is tingling”
I thought Slick shoes was able to remove 5 stacks.
And Line of Warding 1?(unless the enemy walks back and forth across the line.)Are you assuming they’re running through all the little puddles or are you saying running over one puddle removes five stacks?
That is not how it works. you can use rocket boots or super speed + slick shoes and put the puddle at their feet. Slick shoes can optimally remove 3 stacks of stability per player, per seconds, for 3 seconds.
this thread can help to educate people on the mechanics of slick shoes
In that case it can be interesting to have one engi on the gank squad assuming they can get out without relying on the 25% health trait proc otherwise they will easily be picked off by the enemy gank squad. It won’t be useful to have 5, other guilds have tried engis in the past eager to make use of magnetic pull but no they wont have a place on the frontline if this is all the argument for them is. One slick shoes on top of the guard lines and statics is enough.
Why do you think they would need to be on the tank squad?
Do you seriously think no one has played rangers, mesmers, and engineers in WvW for the past 2-3 years?
There have been well known front line commanders of all of those professions in the past as well.
The inability to think outside the box, on these forums, is sometimes baffling to me.
Well I guess the problem here is im talking about one guild group taking on another guild group not pug commanding.
I thought Slick shoes was able to remove 5 stacks.

Yeah.. theyre not gonna stay still, from that thread that was linked it seems running over a puddle once would remove 5 stacks. You run to make a make-shift line of warding with it that removes 5 stacks by running through once which will strip most of it and the lines and statics will do the actually stunning. That ofcourse is disregarding all the other problems such as how are you gonna get in and how are you gonna get out and no, being a one-trick pony by relying on that trait only to be picked off by the gank squad isnt the preferred situation, you need a leap but you can probably rely on your gank squads stealth, stun break and the rocket boots out.

Of course, if you really want to stay condi for ZvZ, I would aim to fill a role of soft-CC. That is, don’t worry too much about condition damage, but maximise the amount of chill, cripple and immobilise that you can put out.
Something like this, perhaps?
Key points:
- Focus has excellent chill duration with spinal shivers
- If you do land a good soft-CC (like a long duration chill), use epidemic to spread it around
- Use chilling darkness to trigger chills from bleeds. This has good synergy with scepter/staff low CD skills, sigil of geomancy, and plague. It is pretty low duration, but your runes and food buffs gets it up to some nice numbers.
- Greater marks to punch through the front liners aegis effects
- Path of midnight for tainted shackles, dark path, doom CD
I’d suggest playing with utilities a bit too. Perhaps spectral grasp for plucking someone into your group, and applying lots of your long duration soft-CC to give them little chance to escape alive? You might find you have good synergy with a snipe team.
Since you are effectively filling a support role with this build, signet of undeath might be suitable too. Listen to your voice channel to hear the call for ‘banners’, signet of undeath fills the same role.
In general, I would recommend that whatever route you go for (power, condi damage or soft-cc condi/support), you tone down some of your survival traits and utilities. While roaming calls for plenty of mobility and stun breaks these are less necessary in a zerg fight. Positioning tends to be far more important that survival skills, and death shroud is often enough to get you out of a stick situation.
Chilling darkness procs on blinds not bleeds so synergizes with plague and well of darkness. Also the thing about focussing on support role with soft CC is that you can still do that with a power build and you would still be doing more damage that a condi support build. You also will probably have the +30% condi duration by going into the top trait line that would also help your power based damage.
if they get insta bombed, they get a free out and a heal recharge at 25%.
they dont have crap melee damage with bombs.
they arent taking up backline slots, theyre replacing warriors because now warriors suck.Yes warriors totally suck.
They can only deal good CC bombs, good immobilizes and banners.
And what melee train do you expect to come after the engies? 6 guardians? Yeah massive bomb lol.your typical warrior is what… this? watch this replace it. because slick shoes doesnt have a target limit.
Again line of warding does the same thing from range, you need more justification for swapping out 5 slots on your team comp.
I dunno. Slick shoes stripping an entire zerg of stability and knocking down masses of them at once seems fairly “meta” in my opinion.
Explain to me how 1 slick shoes is gonna strip an entire zerg from stability. Not only will you have to get close, which is a pain for engi and will most likely get CCed himself, it will only rip 1 maybe 2 stacks of stab per person. There are so many more effective ways of CCing someone then hoping them to run into your slick shoes.
Engi can be good, but not more than 2 and that would be for pulls only. The problem you get though with that is that you have to give up 2 mesmer/thieves or 1 mesmer/thief + 1 ele probably, which is not exactly what you want.
In the current pirateship meta you could probably make 2 engies and 2 rangers as fp work though. Just use the engi smokefield as blast finisher for stealth .imagine 5 engis rocket booting into you and all using slick shoes on your hammer train, followed by their hammer train. if something goes wrong and you do significant damage to them, they shrink when they hit 25% and gtfo. and they have 98% reduction on soft cc (and super speed to bypass the 1 minute of cripple that stacks up on them anyways).
Think his point is you can do the same with guardian lines without losing 5 slots on your team comp :P
Key point here is you need to think 1) what can my class do that others cant 2) if others classes also have the ability to do whatever im saying the biggest reason to bring my class is, how much risk/damage does each class have to sustain to do this and which class can do more things on top of that

Don’t forget the great and terrible Bubbles, who lives in the deep waters around Tyria. I think we need to kill him before we can go to Cantha, which would imply a crazy overhaul of underwater combat. Honestly, I think Bubbles will be the last Elder Dragon we face, as his death opens up the rest of the world, which makes a great ending to the Elder Dragon battle.
xD love the nickname
I predict engi will soon become part of the meta, filling the same roll as the ele. Their anti siege capabilities are better and they bring similar combo field options.c
The GWEN meta hasn’t got anything to do with siege lol
If getting supplies was as easy as killing the enemy, PVE players would be focused non stop due to the probability of them not running builds which they can survive wvw with effectively.
I don’t see the problem here lol, but anyway it’s not like they have a label above their heads saying pve and if they did they’d be focused anyway.
the skill lag doesn’t seem to be so bad here .
Which seems odd, kitten it is said to be the region with known issues at the moment, and where the vast majority of those issuing the skill lag complaint, are located.
im on EU.
So have you already contributed to the thread the devs made on this issue in EU?
Im just not interested in arguing about arguing rather than talking about that actual topic which you’ve been doing for the last week or so, the only reason im still replying to you is to keep the audience of the thread up to date with the info we know of so far.
So let me get this straight. Someone did some testing. Found something specifically connected to skill lag. You condemn it blindly, refuse to test it yourself. Then suggest it is off topic?
Again, he says its nothing to do with skill lag in his second paragraph himself.
I see you avoided my question. Interesting.
What region are you in?
Im just not interested in arguing about arguing rather than talking about that actual topic which you’ve been doing for the last week or so, the only reason im still replying to you is to keep the audience of the thread up to date with the info we know of so far. On that note im on EU, and the skill lag doesnt seem to be so bad here but then again im on silver and numbers have been low since the stab patch (my raid has been roughly 11 engaging maybe 15ish or pushing it to 25 at times). Just a hunch but seems like the majority of the new increased skill lag is on NA but i doubt it.
I read some where that the “lag” is actually being caused by the new CoherentUI process they added/updated in a recent patch.
This lag is different from the normal “skill lag” you get in large zergs. That appears to be on the server side. This lag appears to be on the client side. I say this because some people experience it when others at the same time say everything is fine. Ping tests are fine, so it doesn’t appear to be network related.
To test the idea I tried hiding the UI in game (CTRL+SHIFT+H by default) and all of the lag went away. Everyone I had do this also had zero lag after doing so.
Of course the problem with this is that you can’t reliably play wvw with no UI. You can’t see commander tags or maps or even your heatlh/dmg. So it’s not really a good fix if it does work for you.
I don’t normally post on the forums but if this IS the issue and this fix DOES work for some people then hopefully the word will spread and Anet can fix it.
That was an fps drop not skill lag, I had it it halved my fps but was fixed a patch or two ago.
No, it is a problem from the recent UI change.
Yes… which caused a huge fps drop not the skill lag we have and like I said it was fixed a patch or two after it was introduced
Well he is specifically stating that testing suggested it was skill lag specifically. I mean it is in his post. Did you drop the UI and get a different result?
Actually in the second paragraph he specifically says its different from the skill lag people are experiencing. I knew about this already because when the patch that caused the fps lag hit people were reporting right away that their fps returned to normal values when hiding the UI.
So when you tried it, there was no change in your skill lag at all?
Bug Fixes:
Fixed client crashes.
Fixed a performance issue with rendering the UI.
Fixed an issue that prevented cannons at Stormbluff Beacon from firing past the wall.

Edit: my bad didn’t see you clarify this is not the skill lag but yeah it’s the skill lag that people are complaining about
(edited by Zetsumei.4975)
Sorry for the late reply but thanks for the replies from both sides. I just wanted to clarify that I had no idea what the other commander colors were supposed to represent as when I played there only seemed to be blue (Or that was the only one that people used?) and the general idea was follow the group around. I checked the four WvW maps and they were the only one with a commander icon and they were linking waypoints in map chat so I jumped on that. I also did not know what Edge of the Mists was as this didn’t exist when I played either and I figured it was a form of structured pvp before today so I didn’t try going into it.
Anyways, I do still have an old level 80 Necromancer however it didn’t really feel like I was surviving more or doing any more damage than my engineer was. That characters in full exotics with full power / vitality / condition gear with 4/6/4/0/0 traits based around staff / scepter (I don’t know if this is the thing or not still (I’m assuming not)). I did try roaming a bit looking for small fights but anytime I ran into a ranger for example I generally got instantly dropped in 2-3 seconds before I had a chance to do much.
Condi dmg won’t work in zerging because they get cleared too fast and the reduction is reduced to nothing, take zerker/knights gear and use wells for damage. Don’t stay with the melee train you need to strafe out the outsides of the fight and keep out of the damage while bombing, positioning will determine whether you survive or not. Condi is strong on necro for roaming though.
Condi Necro actually does work in zerging, especially now with the stabo changes, but you have to be smart about it. A condi WvW Necro needs as much variance in condis as possible to help keep them all from being clensed. Namely you want to get a Sigil of Torment, blind well with the chilling darkness trait for the chill, and/or essentially anything else that applies aoe condis that you have less consistent access to.
Calling a build a condi user is referring to the damaging conditions, a power build especially on necro can output just as much utility conditions from certain utilities necros have.
But anyway back to the point, even if they bleeds are protected from clearing by applying sufficient cover conditions your damage potential is cut down heavily due to the condi reduction food and runes being used. While you may keep bleeds on the enemy the amount of stacks you can maintain will at the very least be cut by half and so you simply won’t output anywhere near the damage you would in a small scale fight and especially won’t match the damage of a power well necro. The only place it could work is only the gank squad applying single target condi burst to backline but it’s effectiveness is reduced due to the numbers game in typical wvw unlike in gvgs.

Well if the tag was blue and he was linking waypoints it sounds like a pug commander so i dont really get why he’s getting so stressed about having an upscaled with him to be honest.

I don’t get why people make multiples of the same class unless it’s for looks n you want a different race, well unless you find changing builds that annoying lol.

Should be a hotfix for this incoming as well.

What could also be an option is keeping the current event, add a generator in the middle of the oasis. Make it so you gain a maximum of 2 charges just like in sPvP with the supplies on stronghold and with those 2 charges you can charge the mega laser by channeling it for +/- 2 seconds on the generator. Once you die with the charges, you lose the ‘’orbs of energy’’ you just gained from the mob which are available for enemies to pick up. Like that you don’t entirely gotta delete the event but rather spice it a bit up.
As they explained in the first presentation about this (I think it was the one at PAX), killing the dinosaur to get the core is only the easiest part of the job, then you need to bring the core back to one of 3 collection points, and you can be killed on the way, and you’ll lose the core for your enemy to collect.
If it works like that, sounds like a good excuse for PvP to me. And having 3 collection points makes it harder to blob the event with one single zerg camping the collection point.
I must have missed that then. Well if that’s the case I just hope these orbs don’t deny you from using your skills. Or don’t disappear the moment you drop them and also that they will still make it so you have to channel the orb to the generator and that damage or CC will interrupt you from doing so. If not you can just get the orb, run straight past the enemies or just blink past, deliver quickly and get off to do more pve.
My biggest complaint would still be the amount of mobs across the open area’s though.
Lets hope they have the foresight to change the fact that you can currently stealth and blink while holding the orb.
Blinking is fine if they add a channel effect to the delivery of the orb. I don’t mind someone suiciding to try to channel his orb. I do, however, mind people stealthing and you getting forced to bomb the altar because of that.
Not unless the delivery point is sufficiently far away. If you look at spiritwatch in pvp when it comes to delivering the orbs, classes like warrior far outclasses other professions due to the sheer land speed given by leaps, it gives an unfair advantage almost but not as broken as stealth, but if the delivery point is really far away then you can effectively see the carrier coming and they don’t have enough skills to cover the distance before you can engage.
No need to panic OP. The event will last 24 hours and you still have plenty of time to enjoy it!
Happy Aprils Fools’ Day!
xD
Lets hope they have the foresight to change the fact that you can currently stealth and blink while holding the orb.
But I suppose that might be because those bombings and battles didn’t happen in the Western world, and therefore they are not as “tragic or important”.
Which is my point, I’d bet that if this was 7 days after 9/11, suddenly that would be “tragic and important” enough that this would not of been run.
Thats because anet is an american company and the 9/11 occurring in america would make it mainstream enough to cause that effect, essentially it proves our point. Had a tragedy occurred in a country maybe in the middle east or somewhere where there is already constant death with the tiniest reference to it being made (which there is – knives, swords), there wouldnt be a single comment on these forums complaining.
I guess a rough explanation is that its the most commonly agreed upon optimal build.
If the game changes, these builds may be one step behind next gen builds made by real theorycrafters. If youre starting new trying to make a build, always take a look at current meta builds to see whether yours actually surpasses the meta or not.
My characters are stuck in jesus position because it is easter. I see no relation with any planes.
LOL
To someones loved ones.
gg.
This is a first for me defending lordkrall, but seriously dude why do you feel the deaths involved over a tragedy that was widely publicized demands extra empathy and special privileges compared to the several deaths that occur everyday but dont make for great click-bait for the media’s stories? Every death hurts someone somewhere, just because one story is popular enough to make international news doesnt mean the world should be careful not to reference the tragedy in the slightest. As many have said, why should bladed weapons be allowed in the game when everyday somewhere a life is taken by a knife.
People are so easily coerced by media, several people die everyday in multiple ways but you make a big deal over what makes the big story on television. How many people die due to car crashes or petty crimes? but a plane crashing makes for a story that attracts a lot of views and so the world has to change their ways to not make the slightest hint of a relation to what media is able to pump out that gets the most views?
They should bring back the orbs for a day so the fly hackers can role play
It doesn’t “nuke every enemy gate” as you stated it. It nukes 1 gate every 3 hours, as I understand it.
It nukes all enemy outer gates
