It looks neat, but also so far doesn’t seem to have much in the way of team support. I’ll reserve final judgment until tomorrow, but at least the animations look neat.
I was sort of hoping they would hit allies with something so that Rune of the Trooper would work, but it appears not. Oh well.
Maybe the Trooper effect will still work on allies within the radius? We’ll have to see.

I think the main reason people who don’t play necro are failing to understand the problem here is that they aren’t aware of how much horribly longer and how much more effort it takes to build life force in comparison to adrenaline..
That and it leaves us extremely vulnerable when we have no shroud feeling almost defenseless
They’re preparing for the 100% resistance uptime with heart of thorns :P

Yup I definitely agree. If it was a specialisation, they would take one aspect already part of the class and push it to an extreme. As shown with the guard it was given things nothing to do with the class but suddenly makes complete sense if you think of it as simply dual professions.
A Mursaat is a race – one that is likely to be prominent in HoT.
I think I can quite confidently say that the spec will 100% NOT be a Mursaat.

This trait is getting nerfed to the ground in HoT, currently in zergbusting, in the right conditions this trait can instantly spike you with 25 might but with the new internal cool down our grandmaster minor will be giving us an impressive two stacks of might…

this is actually one of the reasons I hope they remake Lich Form and Plague into real spectral/corruption skills. A little less emphasis on #1 would be fantastikittenerally. Want to dps?

Elite? Lich #1 spam.
Plague? Well.. #2 spam.Not only that, but for weapons like Dagger and staff, you pretty much have to AA frequent enough just so you can support yourself on LF. :/

W/e though, we’ll finally know if we’re getting shouts or spirits or something else, and if it really is Marjory’s GS AA animation so I know how many people I have to say “I told you so” to.

You can see it if you watch the video, to the left of the gate. He does a mesmer greatsword animation n then three slashes.

Hmm I gathered from the picture they might be looking to call it wraith.
Guys I might be completely mistaken but I just vaguely remember in the living story majory talking about rox helping her learn how to use the greatsword. Am I imagining this or does she say rox learnt a few stances as mandatory training from the old days? If so at the time I must’ve passed it off as simply learning to use the weapon but we may be getting the utilities stances.

You have to get in your servers TS.
Then you have to spend time developing a relationship with the regular pick up group players.
Then you have to earn a reputation as someone who knows how to group them together, place siege in proper locations, and ask the right professions to cast the correct skills at the correct time.
Then you have a start. A few months of that and you might get zergs following you.
I’ve thought of onto jumping onto TS, the problem though is I’m a pretty young gamer. I want to try my best to stay away from TS because my high voice and the fact people won’t take me seriously. Ill probably try at some point, and thanks for the feedback!

Fyi guard won’t be anywhere near as good as a Necro in applying condis. Plz. What? Traps, you say? Were they stun breaks? Nope. Were they ranged? Nope… can a guardian get good poisons/bleeds/torment? Still nope. Can they get good burning? Yes. Ok…. so burning and a stationary bay-blade trap which you have to trait for somehow outshine the Necro class. #logic

Lol they’ve said so many times already specialisations aren’t supposed to be upgrades and it seems they’ve already revealed all major changes to the base class.
i take everything back. our spec better have some sweet stuff. but knowing anet, how they treat this class the live stream for its ready up will be underwhelming and the mechanics will be terrible. oh but i fully expect DH to get nerfed before its released. There is no way some of those skills will be released in their current states.
only one thing i took from this is that burn will do a decent amount of damage so dhuumfire will tick for a nice amount. so thats something for condi necros.
What lol burnings damage got nerfed, the dragonhunter was doing so much burn dmg because he is able to get a lot of stacks up which dhuum won’t do, from what we can tell it will most likely do less damage than sceptre autoattack.
Arenanet is methodically copying one profession’s capability to another as a specialization.
Yeah this seems like less of the specialisations they described and more of Gw1’s dual class system.

As an aside, the original post here was to continue this discussion, not to share my own views.
Personal opinion:
Beginning to think a lot of posters in this thread don’t run with organised/semi-organised WvW groups: do people understand the amount of damage zerk necros put out + a melee/FP group hitting an immobilised target?
There’s not much “counter play” to been hit by that in under 2 seconds.Group synergy is great and all but a, lets be honest here, stupidly simple to perform synergy such as venom&wells is totally broken in a risk-reward sense.
To each their own of course but I would urge people that don’t really understand the issue to spend some time in even a semi-organised environment (reset with teamspeak for example on your respective eb’s) and perhaps you might change your mind.
the simplest answer is don’t stand in their wells. Which is what you would normally do anyway. I do run with a guild as well as with pugs. Sometimes I’m on TS, sometimes I’m not.
Condi clear + dodge back(maybe twice) or a utility/weapon skill that moves you backwards(many classes have them).
Have I been caught in them and died due to it? Of course I have, but 90% of them time it’s because of one of these reasons:
a. Wasn’t paying attention since I’m also watching tv at the same time
b. Didn’t listen to commander and was nowhere near tag
c. Lag spikeTry to get your group to practice predicting enemy movements instead of just reacting to them. As an OCX player, I deal with bad lag all the time, our OCX commanders are the same. We quite often would pre-emptively move out of an area before the enemy even drops their bombs and venom wells.
kinda hard to avoid a stealth-ed necro that unleashes their wells
use a thief + trap ranger to scout. stealth ranger, ranger drops traps. Traps trigger if enemy enters regardless of stealth.
or simply use anti stealth traps. A thief can easily sneak up and employ these traps in a smart place, prior to the zerg getting within the reach of the choke or area.
Be creative, we got tools to counter everything, even if they come at a slight inconvenience for the user.
I don’t know how I feel about venom wells but I had to comment on what you said.. are you kidding me. You expect three measely traps to detect the stealthed necros in an open field fight given how big the playing field is.. this isn’t spvp where you sit on a tiny point expecting to get jumped. Do you have any idea how dynamic these fights are.. It’s not like youre sitting alone in a camp trying to anticipate a single necro about to jump you, how do you expect to see where the necros are in a chaotic fight like a 20v20. Also what makes you think the traps aren’t going to be set off by the other 20 or so enemies running around.
Before today Guardians were screaming how much they wanted longbow. They get a longbow that works like a longbow. Now everyone is complaining.
What exactly did people think Guardian Longbow was going to be?
I don’t play guard but im pretty sure its obvious that the problem isnt the longbow itself, its the fact that they also gave them traps (and therefore stealth) and bleeds basically turning them into a trapper ranger 2.0 and doesnt sound like a guard at all.

On a more serious note, i think this spec was completely uncreative. Trapper ranger 2.0 much? and im not even just saying that.. they should have given one or the other. Bow AND traps? not to mention theyre even giving them bleeds.. Also this means you guys get stealth xD really makes sense.. guards getting stealth (trapper runes).

The stacks are simply of the burning condition, there is no unique difference between them for the necromancer. Maybe you’re mistaken due to the physical damage of the life blast.

Epidemic is a terrible skill and its unlimited potential holds Necromancers back.
Nobody even takes it, not even in WvW which has a “stack together tightly and ball up” play style. The condition cap removal from the beta applied only to one world boss.

Well I can’t help but notice the synergy between the new spite minor vulnerability on chill with greatsword – assuming it is Marjory’s auto-chain. I would assume that the specialization will go with the new line, spite, and soul reaping.

No one bothers with them because we don’t want more pve in wvw
Given the nature of the position and the feedback from the other forum specialists, I think either krall or coglin would be the ideal choice, as long as they promise to report on progress on a weekly basis, including feedback from Anet on all reports and progress towards resolving issues:-)

I think I read over 50 threads on Necro and it seems fairly mixed in general. One is in favor of the upcoming changes while the other side isn’t happy at all. I say let’s see what Anet brings elite specs. When will this happen? You know typical Anet tends to be more tight lipped now more than ever, no more than a “It’s coming soon.” So hold your judgement until then and wait it out. Hopefully while we’re still on this earth, Anet.
Thing is, the other professions got great reworks AND they still have the elite to come. So its not ok to say oh we got nothing changed with the base necro but maybe our specialisation will bring something new.
Another thing more aimed at whether the base necro is underpowered or not, the elite is supposed to be on par with the base not an upgrade.
The second the devs said necros have a second health bar everyone who actually plays necro knew they are clueless.
Why are there even still traits solely dedicated to falling damage or rezzing?

The dhuum change was a nerf, the damage has been reduced to compensate for it stacking. If you camp lifeblast youll just end up losing all your other stacks of condis and reducing the dps. Keep in mind with poison stacking we have another condi that requires to maintain high stacks to compensate for its reduced damage.

To be fair, the GW2 music is really good. It doesn’t compare to playing Necro with heavy metal in the background though.
xD I just imagined the background music suddenly becoming heavy metal everytime you enter shroud and go back to calm peaceful sounds after you exit it
The question I have is will I still be able to pick 2 master traits instead of a grandmaster trait in the same line. I.e Indominable Courage and Absolute resolution or will the new system only allow one major trait of each tier?

I agree about well of power being cast at your feet automatically though, extremely rare I want to use it otherwise.
Some commanders in WvW will have Necro’s put on Well of Power for choke points to give the front line Stab. If Well of Power wasn’t ground target it would limit group support since it would prohibit the Necro from using it on allies who aren’t near by. In PvE it wouldn’t be a big deal, but in other games modes it would be.
Well of power doesn’t give allies stab, it only gives you stab.

I’ll probably go hulk smash on my warrior but I’m guessing (talking about scrubby unranked point of view here xD I don’t main spvp) well bomber necro would be good for once the gate is open n you need to take out the npcs in lords room.

X amount of kills grants the title.
People want this title so they found an easy way to get it. This easy way, from my point of view, is legit.
At the end of the day it’s just a title and what seems like a very minute amount of APs for such an immense amount of kills which can be hastened by participating in this ‘easier’ method of obtaining kills.
By that logic then there should be a valid option to farm Dragon rank in PvP without worrying about people fighting back, not have to do all dungeon instances for Dungeon Master, or make a way to get the Been There Done That without doing world completion. What it rewards you with physically makes no difference whatsoever when the fact is Ultimate Dominator is a matter of prestige. Because of the EotM 24/7 ktrain, virtually most all prestigious aspects of WvW have been watered down to the point that badges and WvW ranks don’t matter. The only forms of prestige people really seem to have any more are either recognition on a server(s) and the hard to reach titles, like Ultimate Dominator.
Sadly the PvP farm does exist lol that’s the custom arena skyhammer thing I believe where they trade point caps. Looks like anet are happy as long as people are buying custom arenas.
However i’ll leave some food for thought you can think about. Why does none of the top guilds run an engineer in their GvG comp? I guess they all suck and you must know some stuff about the class they don’t.
Did someone claim they all suck or that they know something those guilds don’t? Or is that am implication you are making yourself?
Do you have a list of all of the top GvG guilds? Do you have a list of their roster and profession list for each guild? How did you determine them to be top in your claim?
Most importantly, what does GvG have to do with anything? This is a WvW subforum. Your arguments should likely be moved to the GvG section of the forums.

Maybe because i have friends who are in guilds who GvG frequently / know people who are part of the community? So far i’ve never heard of an engineer being used. I also used to be big into it when my guild was still around? We also used to run an engineer but like i pointed out earlier he himself told us everytime that it would be much smarter to replace his engineer with something else because it pales in comparison? Although that was before focus grps became a thing… maybe they have a niche spot there however IN MY PERSONAL OPINION i think you would be better off taking in another thief / mesmer.
