So, the fact the “Knock Out” option didn’t appear for me near Vorpp when his shield was down was NOT a bug despite the fact it should have and hasn’t popped up for others when it should?

Thats a bug. 4 times after I disabled his shield I got no “press F option” and it appeared only on my 5th try.

I think the bug has to do with character position detection and/or lagg. Because I have experienced this behaviour sometimes in other locations in the game, that the “press F option” does not appear and then it helped me to run away a few meters and then come back to the exact same position and then it appears.

I made a mistake by posting my laugh. In response to:

“The thing is, there is no good or evil……”

I should have simply said this:

You are wrong.

No, morals are a human invention and are passed on from generation to generation by education from parents, religion, school, politicians etc. So is what is considered “good” and “evil”.

You are talking about moral/good/evil as being some guidelines that are passed on. What is considered “good behaviour” can differ from one person to another but every person still has behaviours that he/she considers “good” and “bad”. So there will always be good and evil/bad things.

As we all are humans (thats what I want to believe :-) ) here writing in the forum, there will always be good and bad in “our world” (meaning: in our view/model of the world).

Its the same with, lets say, “white” and “black”. Someone could also say that they are human “inventions” because black and white are just a result of what levels of electromagnetic radiation our eye can detect. Which is right. Animals i.e. can “see” other black and white. Black and white are words/labels for some things we experience. That does not mean that those (underlying) things do not exist or that they themselves are “human inventions”. Same goes with good/bad.

Animals also have these guidelines (on a different level) about what is “good” and “bad” behaviour which are passed on from generation to generation through education and genetics even if they do not have the cognitive power to reflect about the concept of “moral”.

If there is a “universal good” (like God) or an “universal evil” (like The Devil) is a different story that is a matter of personal belief or disbelief because science can not proof the existence or non-existence of them.

Hi,

when I have finished the JP, having the milestone buff (with number 9) and opening the end-chest, the chest opens and I get the loot. But right before I get it, in the chat window appears a red notice that I do have one or more milestones missing.

I this a bug or did I missed something?

With the last patch, even Caiths Blossom can now be bought with crests, so you really do not need to achieve anything for this … you just need to grind.

Is it actually unlocked for everyone, or only for those that got it from completing the achievement to get it? This may be only unlocked after you get one of them for achievement, so that people can get second one for their alts.

Well, I have the achievement but I saw it at the npc-merchant not before the last patch, so I assumed it is one of the items that were added with the last patch for everyone. Maybe someone without the achievement should go to the merchant in SW and look it up.

If you mean the priory historian [bandit crest collector] guy at Camp Resolve, I just checked and he doesn’t have it. I also don’t have the achievement.

Labyrinth is an armor repair grind

in Living World

Now we have a game of basically pac-man, as the climax to an event where we defend fortresses WvW-style, against hordes of enemies. This doesn’t fit.

It makes more sense to me, that after defending a bunch of fortresses, that the logical conclusion to that, is that you strike back. I wanted to see an epic finale, where we assault the underground labyrinth, and face off against a big boss. Running around in a labyrinth does not feel like a fitting follow up.

Thanks very much. After I read the above I realised that this is exactely what I do not like about the pac-man-minimap and could not put into words.

But unless you do it once and then get everything, it will be seen as a grind by some people thus you would suggest that we completely remove the need to do something more than once.

There are people that find grinding for stuff fun. Why not allow them to do that?

I think, you are missing one point. It is not about “not-repeating” at all, but it is about that players should have the choice, so that they can repeatedly do the things, that they like and feel rewarded for.

It does not feel like grinding, when someone does something repeatedly that he likes and he is doing it mostly because he likes it.

If people want to farm Silverwastes and get all the armor: Good, let them.
If people want to do some “pvp-track” and get all the armor: Good, let them.
If people want to do some “WvW-track/badges” and get all the armor: Good, let them.
If people want to do the Living-story again and again and get all the armor: Good, let them.

3rd – remember that Anet always tries to experiment and try different things. So they implement this option, get resulting statistics, analyse them and decide which way is better or maybe even produce some other way (choice of Armor box/key at the end of the chapter).

That would be a good solution, that could have been implemented from the start: Give players the choice and let them decide by themselves what they want as a reward.

I have a suspicion that ANet is once again tying the LS into the different game modes to encourage players to return and populate different parts of the game. I fully expect some of the subsequent armor pieces to require participation in WvW (Badges of Honor. I suspect that this will be the Chest/Leggings piece, and it will require a big sink of Badges), Fractals (Fractal Relics or Pristine Relics) and possibly dungeons/JP’s.

All that said, I still would have preferred if alts could have gotten the Gloves per run. :P I can now understand why it was done, but I’d still have liked more options.

It is OK for me (I am not a PvP player) that they added a “Silverwastes PvP track” for this. They should also add a “WvW-Track/Badges” way to obtain it. And a way to get it with fractal relicts.

Then players with different play-style could get it as long as they play the game and “achieve” something. “play as you want”. And then players would not feel forced to play or grind variants of the game they do not like.

For example: I still do not like it, that you have do to fractals for getting the Mawdrey backpice. I tried one pug group and was in two guilds just for doing the fractals and it seems I did not find the right people to do this, so I gave up on this.

The harder it is the less people will have it, and that’s a good thing for me. At the end of the day you’ve got to work hard to get nice things

Farming chests/crests for this is not hard, it is just time consuming and boring (at least for me), which for me is the definition of: Grinding.

With the last patch, even Caiths Blossom can now be bought with crests, so you really do not need to achieve anything for this … you just need to grind.

Legendary Annihilator recently seen?

in Living World

Posted by: Zok.4956

Zok.4956

Hi,

I killed my first three legendary mordrem on patch day. Everything was crowded with players that were doing all the events and also were defending the forts. So I was very impressed from the map and played “with the flow” und without trying I participated in several “legendary mordrem” events, so I killed all but the “legendary annihilator”

And after I checked now my achievement panel I wanted to do the last one, the Legendard Annihilator, but without success

I know it should spawn somewhere around redrock when redrock is defended by the pact.

But actually, in the last two days that I am trying, nearly no-one is interested anymore in defending redrock. Without defending, no chance that the Annihilator appears.

From time to time comes a bunch of players along from the waypoint, they help with one defending event, and then go away again. And then the next “defend redrock” event fails, because there is often just one (me) left there.

I have asked in map chat for help in defending redrock, no one was listening or was interested. I have tried to use the LFG tool to find some map where most of the players where defending the 4 forts or just redrock without success.

But nearly in all maps I have visited (and have gone/looked at other forts) it is that the most people are at amber and farming chests (farming is OK, but not what I want at this point).

And I see that a lot of peoply are asking in map chat if anyone has seen any legendary, but no responses. On patch day the message “legendary … at …” was very often in map chat. In the last two days: not once in the maps I was.

The way , how and what people play in this map has changed drastically since patch day.

Whith this, I think, I will never encounter the Legendary Annihilator.

So, any tipps on finding him?

agree with you here OP. only problem i have with the map is the lack of waypoints since if you die at blue or amber you got to literally run across the entire map to get back.

At first, I thought only one waypoint is inconvenient. But now I feel its a good thing. Dying means something there. Don’t die.

Also. “out there in the wilderness”, away from the base camp, people have to work together and help each other. Which means rezzing other players.

The lack of waypoints supports the atmosphere of the map. I like it.

Would you guys consider the “under attack” version of la a raid if it were instanced? The one that was used during Season 1 where you were to save civilians.

I ask because this would further expand on the idea of breaking up a raid into several groups, as it would go as far as allowing players to venture even alone or in pairs while fighting together for one goal. Not to forget that there would still be a need for larger groups that take care of the reacurring/timed events, so that players have a meaningful choice of what they want to do.

There would be less focus on raidspecific mechanics but on
-Knowledge (when do the events spawn)
-individual skill for the non-event-rescuers (how many civilians can you rescue per minute)
-map wide coordination (how to spread out so the map is covered most efficiantly)

If you insist on a bossfight you could still attach the hologram fight to the end of this raid

Honestly, I think this is what they need to do instead of raids. Something like this was much more fun for a wider range of players.

Well, they did it already. The mechanics above were used in Dry Top which I would call a “farm map” and not “open world raid” (thats nothing against farmers, farming is OK). But I liked “under attack” much much more.

But, on the other hand: In other games I knew, nearly every raid got “farm status” after it was mastered by the players and was after that (mostly) played only to farm gear.

So maybe, it could be a raid. Because I think a fun raid needs to be more than just “mechanics”.

Why don’t I join a big raiding guild? Been there, done that, hate seeing stupid egos clash in guild chat and watching people fight over the guild bank. I’m not interested in petty politics in a game; I’m here to relax and have fun.

No thanks, I can have fun without the aggravation.

I was raiding a lot in an other game (not WoW but Rift) too, and have seen this negative behaviour of people there, too. Because of that experience I was so happy in GW2 when I came to GW2, that here was no need to join a “large guild” to play the game and all the content of the game and I could “just have fun” with some friends.

My small proposal for this: Please make the raiding-system so (maybe improve the LFG tool, not only for guilds, etc..) that raiding can be a fun experience for people that do not want to stress themselfes with a “big guild” and all the negative social interactions, that often can happen there.

What exactly is the intention behind creating “raid” content that cannot already be expressed in terms of existing dungeons or fractals? Is it about creating another category of content that is gated to guilds?

Usually the name comes from the number of players the instance is mostly designed for

1 player: “Personal Story, Living Story” (yes, up to 5 players, but mostly designed for 1)
2 player (not existing in GW2)
5 player: Dungeon/Fractal
10 player (or 8, or more): Raid

And with designing for more players there can be other, more challenging game mechanics in the instance.

Should raids be restricted to the guild level that require some form of guild activity/currency to activate/enter, or should they be accessible by anyone? What are your thoughts on that specific?

Raids should be opened/activated/entered by everyone, not just guilds, and it should be without currency.

Binding raids only to guilds seems like an artificial gate/barrier.

So far the majority of suggestions seem to replicate the boss-focused raid designs of other MMOs, including all the flaws and problems those designs inherit. With GW2 already missing one of the main design objectives of other MMO’s raids (provide continuous power progression to stretch player retention), a raid in GW2 can (and should) take completely different forms.

I think your post reflects an excellent, new idea for raids.

I think we want progression, without the you-need-that-equipment-to-enter we know from other MMOs. I don’t see how this would be possible without a guild that “unlocks” tier after tier.

I think we want no gear-treadmill/grinding to get to the next raid-tier. But it is still possible that every player “unlocks” tier after tier for himself with playing.

I really would like this kind of progression for the player and not (only) for the guild. If a player changes the guild he should not loose his own progression.

Proposal Overview
A small gate before a person can enter a raid.

Goal of Proposal
I know gating base access to content is unpopular here but hear me out:
In a raid your team is only as strong as your weakest link, to ensure that the player has displayed some basic competence and familiarity with boss mechanics. I believe a gate should be introduced.

Yes, I fully agree with that.

Proposal Functionality

I see the gate acting as a tutorial of sorts forcing the player into situations where you’ll gain some of the required experience, some potential examples are:

1. Requires Dungeon Master, simple, ensures boss mechanic knowledge, effective and a fairly short gate.
2. AR/Fractal level gate, Requiring level 20 fractals or 40AR would ensure mechanic knowledge, but would likely be a less popular method as people flip out over being “forced” to do fractals.
3. Hybrid gate, A mix of the two methods above or an either/or choice for it.
4. Something else appropriate that forces contact with advanced bosses.

I do not think that (1),(2) or (3) should be required for doing Raids because people should not be forced to do that content if they want to raid because that would drastically decrease the number of people that probably look into doing raids. I think it should be a gate solely based on a “real, nice but effective tutorial” to help people to play better and to include more of this skilled players into raiding.

I think the goal should not be to make raids only for players that are already good players but to include and help more players (that could learn to become better players) to have fun with this kind of content.

Greetings.

Proposal Overview
Make Raid-mechanics-tutorial (one tutorial or a series of small tutorials) for players

Proposal Functionality
Like the small “dodging tutorial” in some starter zones shows the benefit of dodging there should be other small tutorials that each show some mechanics of raids and bosses and how a player should respond to them (with his class specific functions)

Goal of Proposal
Help players to learn how to play better in some easy, nice way, so they do not have to learn this the hard way (or never). Example: I have friends that have never “dodged” because they thought there was no need to in the game and the new “mini dodge tutorial” helped them to understand dodging and why it is a good thing. In a Raid situation it could be more important that players work together and understand mechanics. So it would be more important to teach players also the Raid-mechanics for successful and fun Raids.

Associated Risks
– players that do not want to use proper mechanics, still dont use them
– players could feel forced or patronized to do the tutorial and could be against it

Greetings.

Not everyone wants them to be instanced, so do not treat this as a foregone conclusion.* Organizational tools for large-scale events should not be built around the notion that they are private or exclusive and that players can be kicked out.

Yes …

Keep the community AS A WHOLE in mind, with special attention to how player habits change over time.* While you may have thoroughly enjoyed staying up until 3am trying to beat that raid boss when you were in middle school, please consider how incompatible that type of gameplay is with a lifestyle in which employment, families and non-gaming hobbies figure prominently. Many players automatically assume they want “hardcore raiding like in the old days” without realizing that a decade or more has passed and that despite wanting to indulge in that experience again, it may not be realistic to do so (and it can have dire consequences for developers who work under such assumptions; see Wildstar).

  • Raids should probably take longer than a dungeon, but not excessively so (remember, not everyone has hours to spend gaming!)
  • Raids should not require an excessive amount of preparation (Attunements, buffs, etc.)
  • Raids should occur when it is convenient for the individual; time locks and such should not dictate when a player can raid. (Not everyone has a regular work schedule!)

… and yes again.

I think these are very important issues from my point of view and the above describes very good some of the reasons why I switched from an other game (in which I was raiding a lot) to GW2. At some point (because of work und family) I could not and wanted no to spend 2-4 hours an evening/night with a raiding anymore and without being on the “raid team” in my guild there I could not access that content any more.

Greetings.

When I spawn there I often have my normal, regular skills and can run around and make damage and leave the spawn-area, but after 2-4 seconds I am transported back to the spawn point and have the supposed skills of villager or inquisition.

Much more annoying: When I span as a villager I often have no time to read the instructions (at the first tries I wanted to read them…) and respawn immediately as inquisition.

I do know now: There are waiting inquisition players at the spawn point to kill spawning villagers immediately. I tried it myself to check it out: I was even able to use my finishers on the spawning villagers. (and it counts for the stomper achievement).

For people (like me) that are not to used to PvP and who want to try this out this bugs increase the bad “PvP …. I am just canon fodder. Its not fun.” feeling.

Well, look at the new “Berlin Brandenburg Airport” in the city of Berlin, the capital of Germany. Work was started in 2006 and it was planned to be finished in 2010…. actually they think now it will take at least till 2018 …

And that is only one airport (OK, a large airport) and not a complete city.

So, don’t expect the Elder Dragons to break into song anytime soon.

Who needs a singing dragon when we already have a singing pirate in GW2?

But that is just the issue.

When they release a road-map and something is changed/delayed the amount of rage and hate here is extreme. Because people see a road-map as a set in stone absolute promise kind of thing.

No, I think its the opposite. Announcing something and then say nothing afterwards, when things change, caused a lot of negative emotions. A-Net can only manage then expectations (and with this reduce intense negative reactions) of its players with regular based communication and information.

RNG as a concept: Discuss

The idea behind using RNG instead of grinding is that over a long enough timeline, both should produce a a similarly curved graph; the difference being that grind produces a smooth curve with little variation, whereas RNG produces as jagged curve with peaks and valleys.

Yes, but only when you cumulate all items that where given to all players in total. That is an aspect when you think about the in-game economy.

But from a “per player” viewpoint, the curves will never be similar.

With a true RNG system there will always be players that are on the “lower end” of the curve/distribution and the loot will never be distributed equally between all players.

Nice video. I really would like to see a “Guild Wars 2: Year two in numbers” in addition the the “year one in numbers”.

Well you are right about one part. The cash-shop focus is already there so it would not do much additional harm there. In that way it’s already a F2P game sadly.

Yes, sadly.

But lets hope they turn back to the B2P model they promised. Oow and those games went to F2P because there P2P model failed.

I think those games went F2P not because the P2P model failed, but because overall the playercount/market of the genre MMORPG shrunk and they saw that they can make much more money with less costs in the F2P market.

I really would like if A-Net would reduce the F2P cash shop influences and turn back more to the B2P model. But I do no think thats gonna happen. Because it is much easier and has less costs/risks to make a skin and sell it for 30-40 bucks in the gem/cash-shop than to make a real expansion and sell it for 40-50 bucks.

1. Free players can access sPVP (spvp so dead now no players)

2. Free players can access PVE and WVW but they can only wear Masterwork gear. ( More kitten to be pawned by we the alpha full payed players)

3. Free players can get into lv 80 and can only have exotic gear in their bags (cant wear it, but they can unlock and wear the skin.)

4. Basically free player is like kitten that ready to be pawned by us the alpha male players that bought the game.

5. If the free players want to be stronger they need to bought the game.

6. Esport achieved in sPVP ( the only place free players can pawned full payed players)

7. Profits.

Maybe you should take a look into ArcheAge, it has subscribers/patrons who pay and has f2p-players that can be seen as “prey” for the patrons and so has a lot of what you describe (and has a lot what I do not like).

Greetings.
