I really just want to be able to run things with friends and guildmates without ever needing to exclude people.

It is the very nature of a raid to exclude people, Dreggon. I don´t even mean this a a counterargument to it, that damage is already done.

Nope, you are wrong.

The very nature of raids is to be challenged and to adapt and to overcome this challenge as a team.

The only players that are excluded (or that exclude themselves) are solo players and players, that do not want to be challenged and that do not want to adapt to the challenge and the group of other players, they are playing with.

“Look, Steve, you´re a nice guy and we all like you. But sadly, you simply don´t cut it and we already filled the backseat that could go to you tonight. Maybe better luck next time, dude? Ok? We´re really sorry. "

This happens already with dungeons and fractals and I am sure, this will happen in the future with raids, sometimes. If it happens Steve too often, he maybe is in the wrong guild and he should look for a another guild.

How about scaling with a minimum of 10 people and maximum 30?

Make that a minimum of 8 and we’re talking.

To include the solo players we should have a minimum raid size of 1. Everything else is not acceptable.

P.S. just kidding.

Raids make games super competitive and Raiders have a stigma of being negative towards casual players, which I am one of

I was a raider once (in some other game) and I have known a lot of nice raiders there.
Raiders are (nice) people too.

I’m so glad I’m not playing in the European server lol. No seriously there’s nothing to complain about the name “daredevil”. Not after seeing the french version at least lol (and no one seems to complain about the name there)

Interesting. I too am very curious to know if the points gained will stay with you when the real deal comes out. It seems odd to have an achievement category with rewards like that if not, but on the other hand beta stuff tends to not stick.

They also give mastery points. May be it is for the next beta and people can get more mastery points with this and the beta-achievements should not be visible outside of the beta but some developer forgot a “if beta then”

This is really what it’s about, no offense to people who tome-level, but i don’t want to be punished for not doing that. I’m guessing new players are getting punished by it aswell. They don’t have that instant 20 then tome to 80.

No one is punished.

If new players want “insta-level” with tomes when HoT releases, they can pre-purchase HoT now, play GW2 now and level a char and then get tomes.

HoT (at least the new maps) is “endgame content”at level 80.

Sure. Me too. I do not want to wait any longer.

But the reality is: Game development takes a lot of time.

The announcement of HoT was this year and it will be released this year. I think that is not a very long time. In fact I think that this is a short time and I really hope that this will be enough time to make a “big” expansion.

What does "Living World" mean to you?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zok.4956

Zok.4956

“Living World” means, that the story that is told and the events that happen really change the world of the game, as it would be in a real, living world. No “reset button”. And in part that is true. As an example: Tyria has changed and is different before and after the LS1 and LS2 happened.

It indeed has. But the status quo was never in danger, there was no chance that Scarlet could have triumphed over Lions Arch for example.

It was a bold move to destroy Lions Arch, but players requested, that it should be rebuild.

Some things can change, some things can not (or the story ends), GW2 ist not “Game of Thrones” Example: We (the player character) will never die permanently. No dragon has the power to do so.

So it could mean, that others ignore you in chat with their “block list”.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Zok.4956

From what I gather “Living World” from Anet’s perspective is the danger this world faces or the politics. Am I correct in this?

No, I think you are wrong.

We (the player character) are a hero and have to face grave dangers and big bad enemies and have to survive and save the world because that is our job as a hero. This is the foundation of the story of GW2, but that has nothing to do with “living world”.

“Living World” means, that the story that is told and the events that happen really change the world of the game, as it would be in a real, living world. No “reset button”. And in part that is true. As an example: Tyria has changed and is different before and after the LS1 and LS2 happened.

“By darling. Maybe I am late this evening. because I may have to slay a dragon and save the world today.” – “Have a nice day at work..”

“Living World” in GW2 does not mean Sims or something like that.

Why care about number of maps?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Zok.4956

Zok.4956

I have seen this quite a lot, people keep caring about number of maps. I want to say that numbers of maps doesn’t really matter. It’s all about density and replayability , Anet could probably make 20 Lonar’s pass size boring and unoriginal maps but that is not what they are going for. As long as the new maps are dense and fun the numbers really doesn’t matter

I do not think that most people really care about the exact number of maps but about the amount of new content that is on these maps. And the number of maps is only a rough and simple (but not exact) approximation for the amount of content.

Some people fear that this expansion, content-wise, would be a “small” expansion.

Also: Different players have “fun” on different types of maps and with different activities. If A-net would only release one map in silverwastes-style (which they clearly don’t), all players, that do not like this map-type would have no other new map that could be fun for them.

And: Not every player likes packed and dense maps with three biomes and a lot of verticality in them. Some players would like more open maps with more space in them, that others find boring.

As far as Updraft goes, during the original Closed Beta when we could fight they Wyvern there were several updrafts around that fight we could use, they worked just fine during that. Pushing you way up above the platform allowing you glide back down and join the fight…

I saw those videos of previous betas and checked at the Wyvern fight platform but there were no updrafts. Maybe they were removed because players could use them to reach higher places that they should not reach in this beta.

We don’t want to fight every single mob between points A and B every time we make the trek

If you don’t want that, don’t do that.

If you see a group of mobs that seem hard to beat for you, then do not engage them but go around and avoid them.

It was possible on the map. I did it. I roamed around alone the whole map several times to explore without fighting. It is doable even without gliding and mushroom jumping. Maybe you did not see that yet because the map was new and unknown.

And with gliding and mushroom jumping traversing the map without fighting becomes much easier.

Of course you have to be careful. It’s a jungle out there.

Mushroom Jumping
I had a number of experiences where I triggered the jump whilst not standing on the platform. This had the effect of firing me short of the landing spot.

I do not know if it is a bug or intentional, but where I stand on the mushroom had (sometimes) effect on the landing spot where I land, so I could vary/control the landing spot a little.

Also, the Mastery Point on the rock, really close to where the story instance takes place, you can “exploit” it and get it without haveing tire 3 Glider. Just get the right angle and spam “f”.
It needs to be raised, or the area below the Mastery Point needs to be lowered.

But that is not a big problem, because a friendly mesmer can people port there up that do not have rank 3 in gliding.

Btw. The lean forward. I would like it to if I am already pressing w (Forward) to instantly do the lean forward thing, I don’t like to have to release w and then press it again, to get the lean forward effect.

Feedback & Suggestion: Mastery System

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Zok.4956

Difficult (for some folks) to get enough Mastery Points
A friend of mine who has superb reflexes was able to get some MP from the adventures. I spent many hours this weekend trying (and failing) to earn mastery points from adventures. First advancing buggy maps to unlock the adventures, and then grinding them over and over trying to get silver or gold. Bottom line, I just don’t have the reflexes to win the competition.

I was tempted to give my account credentials to my friend with the good reflexes so he could go to get them for me. I didn’t — because sharing account credentials is something I never, ever do (nor do I recommend it).

But this experience highlights a gotcha with the two-currency design. My mastery progress was blocked because the lines were “primed,” but I didn’t have enough mastery points finish the “unlock” step. So my XP (and progress) was just falling on the ground.

That is maybe because there where only 5 mastery points (without the adventures) on the beta-map. I hope there will be enough mastery points one can aquire without the adventures in the final expansion. Because I too was not good at the adventures.

Gaining experience (training) takes time. My strategy would be to always have enough mastery points in advance to unlock trained masteries.

Overall I like it that you have to collect mastery points and XP to unlock masteries. Because that means that you can not just farm the same events for XP but you have to “go out” in the world.

The wyvern eggs event is probably my favorite event in GW2. I absolutely loved bouncing up the cliffs to grab eggs and then gliding down to the bottom to deliver them. Escaping griffons by leaping off a cliff is such a cool feeling.

Yes. I absolutely agree. I did that event before and after a had masteries in gliding and mushroom jumping. With masteries it was so much more fun and also faster. I loved jumping off the cliff and doing a precision landing with the egg before the NPC.

I hope there will me much more of this kind in the expansion.

You are good. But I just keep falling from the cliff when I need jump to get a master point

Build up your basic gliding mastery and glide to it. I’m still trying to figure out how to get the one on top of the rocks.

You use updraft with the fire-smoke from the wreckage below to float the extra few feet up to it. Unlock that first.

I watched so many poor souls trying so hard to get it and kinda laughing inside because of how obvious they made it (to me) but hard to figure out to the average player. They should prolly add a description within the mastery that mentions you use the heat from fires (you see them all over) to updraft.

I have unlocked updraft, but it does not work for me. I tried it right after reading your post.

If you stand near/under it, jump/run angainst the rock and press F at the same time. Maybe you need a few tries to find the exact position und timing. After a few tries it worked for everyone in my map.

Hmm, that is disappointing then. Maybe it is not fully functional or glitched? I cannot believe it is their intent for you to spam ‘F’ and get lucky

I have yet to unlock updraft so I had not had a chance to try yet.

You need rank 3 in gliding (leaning forward) and with that it is very easy.

Mobs difficulty feedback [merged]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Zok.4956

For now it’s hard to move around…just to move around sometimes because there’s tons of mobs, too much of them in my way usually. I don’t have the time to explore, to enjoy the game, I have to fight like 5 mobs just to move a few meters ahead.
There’s too many mobs on the map, that is my problem. Not the difficulty, but the amount of them.

When I started playing the beta on Friday I first wanted to explore the map solo. There where other players around but mostly I was roaming solo with the standard beta-gear with my ele/tempest.

I run into a lot of mobs and died often. I did not wanted to fight, because it took very long and there were a lot of mobs and during a fight there were more and more.

But after a while I learned which mobs I should avoid and which mobs I could run through (when I was fast). And how to escape them. Most mobs don’t climb. So you can take a look for steps or stones where you can jump onto. Just two or three jumps higher and you are safe and you can wait there a moment until the mobs loose interest. And then you can run to the next safe spot.

Thats how I explored the map solo on last friday. Yes, it was not so easy as on non-80 maps.

And after I got the mushroom-jump mastery skill and the glider skill it became much easier for me to go from one point to the other without fighting and with avoiding the mobs. It just takes a little time to learn the map and get the skills.

Yes, I can understand that not all players like this kind of “challenging exploration”.

But I think it is not so bad, as you think. Maybe give the map a second chance.

Next, the reward system feels, well, unrewarding. It triggers on every other event which, instead of making me feel like I got an awesome bonus every so often, makes me feel disappointed by normal event rewards. And I was confused for a bit, wondering why I didn’t get anything for an event before I figured out the pattern. I thought it was bugged for a while.

I thought too, that it was bugged or the rewards are not for events but for map completion (which felt a little underwhelming) . But I did not want to complete a map to check it out and so I ignored it after that.

BWE feedback - day/night cycle

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

The second problem is the scaling of events. When I’m trying to save a rally point with 3 people, it proves quite difficult. But when we are over 10 people, it’s so easy that I hardly get to touch any mobs before they melt down into nothingness. Considering that will be the case most of the time, I think Arenanet should focus on scaling them better against bigger zerkes.

And the mobs, they are amazing. They all have unique abilities to them that makes them stand out. Usually in PVE, I hardly notice the differences between mob types. But here they all have amazing differences. The problem here is they melt down too quickly against big groups. If I’m battling an Arrowhead alone, it’s a challenge. But when I’m with friends it’s nothing. Mechanics are there, numbers need help. This could also better the situation with nighttime in my opinion.

I agree. The mobs have very good and fun unique abilities and to observe and know them matters a lot when you are alone or in a small group. It is a lot of fun for me. I especially hate and like the litty nasty mushrooms.

But yesterday I was in a group with around 15 (+-5) other players and the mobes melted very fast. No way to understand their abilities and it was surely not needed.

If the last group would be my first impression/experience, it would be like “same old mob mechanics” and it would be not fun.

Scaling for groups 10+ should be better.

And I was surprised how much fun gliding in the map and trying to glide from point to point really is.

It is helpful, when you “misjumped” and want do go up and out. But it does not get you to new areas, it is not high enough.

So did anyone else find any other Updrafts?
Or do we really only have on in this part of the Beta?

dx12 is for win 10 only so i hope anet will make a different engine for the future sokething like vulkan will be awesome because have the same performance as dx12 and is avalaible also for linux

I do hope they update/reprogramme their game engine from dx9 to dx12 because it will be very likely that this new game engine will then not only support dx12 but still dx9 and also dx11 (and maybe dx10). Which would result in a big improvement regarding performance of the game engine.

A few MMO’s have added a feature to their expansions, allowing new players to “boost” their characters to the level of the expansion so they can play with family and friends in the expansion content from day one.

Will this be a feature GW2 will have as well for Heart of Thorns?

It is unclear if this will be a feature of the expansion. There is no official statement yet.

However, from what they stated in the past, I think it would be very unlikely.

So if a new player wants to play the expansion content from day one I suggest he/she buys the expansion (pre purchase) 1-2 months before release date and then he/she can play the game and have as a result a character at level 80 when the expansion releases.

As we do not have a release date yet, it is still more than enough time to do so now.

P.S. If someone / a new player wants to play the revenant class from day one in the expansion he/she has to collect “Tomes of Knowledge” before, to “fast level” a new character.

Names can matter, I mean some people just throw together a name and call it good, others actually put thought into it.. and if they lose that name, a temporary break could quite realistically become a permanent break. I don’t know if I’d stop playing the game entirely after losing a name, but I’d stop playing that character probably.

I did.

When I played an “other game” I had a very nice name for my char. But then they “merged servers” and I had to rename my char after a year and it never was the same for me. My character lost not only its name but also its identity.

And after they merged servers again and I had to rename again I stopped playing that game not long after that.

So, I was very happy when I came to GW2 that character names are not unique to servers but to the “whole game” and if you have a chracter name (thats not against the Anet-rules) you can stay with it and it will not be taken from you.

Yes, the “space of names” is quite full now and sometimes it takes time and creativity to create a new name. It took me some time to find a name for my revenant (“Rytzok”) that is consistent with my own “naming scheme”.

But thats better than to “delete names” and take them away from players.

Toxicity only uses 3-6 letter names that are not accented.

Perhaps Toxicity should be less picky and try a 7 letter name..?

I just made a new sylvari mesmer named “Kindzi” 6 letters in the exact order I wanted, no special characters. So even 6 letter names with no special characters are still available ^^;.

Well, that also has proven, that not all names from TV-shows were taken, before you created your character.

However, I found it a little strange to name a tree after an Omec. ^^

Your beta-characters are totally separated from your “normal” characters, it is kind of a different account, so the loot you get with your beta-characters/account can not be used or transferred to your “normal” characters/account.

But you can keep the loot and progression you get in the BWE1 with your beta characters/account and use it during the BWE2 with your beta account/characters.

  • Kasmeer Meade: It’s not a dress. It’s an illusion. You think I’d take my best dress into a place like that?
  • Marjory Delaqua: An illusion? You mean you’re…
  • Kasmeer Meade: Naked. Is that a problem?
  • Marjory Delaqua: Noooo. Not a problem.

Suspension of disbelief is key, and I have a way easier time to believe you when you say the armour is enchanted against magic spells and energy swords when it actually looks like armour, as opposed to you telling me the same thing about a chainmail Bikini.

Suspension of disbelief works different for different people. I think most players have not the knowledge, how armor in reality should be.

However, if you want female armor that protects/covers more skin and is without a boobplate thats fine with me. More armor choice/variation is always a good thing.

Soloing Zhaitan

It is a shame really. Huge buildup, then go toe-to-toe with the biggest threat Tyria has ever see, and the result is press 2, press 2, press 2, press 2, press 2, press 2…(though I heard now they updated the cannon skill to press 1)

For the other dragons you have 1-shield 2-shoot, only for Zhaitan you have 1-shoot.

So, if you dont play focused and press 2 at the Zhaitan fight, it could take a while until he dies of boredom.

P.S. But I really like it, that the PS can now be finished solo.

I did it solo with my elementalist, guardian and warrior because they (and I) where never in Arah.

I think the difficulty is similar to the rest of the personal story. It is not for “veterans” in full-ascended but for rather new players in blue/green gear.

But the end-fight with Zhaitan was much easier than I hoped.

1. use the cannon and press 11111 and ignore the rest
2. when Zhaitan knocks you back, just go back to the cannon and repeat step (1)
3. when the aoe/bubbling thingy hurts you, just ignore it and continue pressing 1111,
when you finally go into down-state just wait a moment until Zojja heals you and then repeat step 1

.. .and then Zhaitan dies.

Karkas bugged

Bugged karka #1 is not bugged. I have 49/50 and need only the one from the end of the jumping puzzle (yes, too bad, I died at the last jump) and I can see the karka #1 with my karka-gun and it does not make any sound.

It also seems it is intention, that these are not killable, because they are not included in the list of the 50 karkas you need in the hero panel.

Lion's Shadow Inn bugged

At :47 on my map the door was still not “active”. I switched with lf-tool “taxi la open door” to a map with open door and there it was “active” and I could open it.

It really seems that this bug only happens on some map-instances.

So look around a few minutes before “:47” in the lf-tool to join other maps.
