I think if the mastery points were changed from silver+gold to bronze+silver we’d be in a good place. Give some other reward for gold, but don’t lock mastery points behind it.

That is a good idea. I think A-Net should do this.

Because the GW2 game client (and the network part of the game) is not designed for this kind of action/arcade mini-games and as a result for some players (with equal skill and experience) it is much worse/harder than for others.

As an example: When I was in a full map (that was doing the meta) it was impossible for me to even get bronze in one of this adventures. But when I tried it off-peak in a empty/deserted map, I easily got silver in the same adventure.

Regurgicidal Achievement in TD

The event for Lore Seeker Zolin to go for the Skelk Regurgitant will not occur until the Teku Nuhoch Meta Event has been completed.

The skelk spawns on the platforms in the center, he warps around the different platforms, but will disappear if the chak gerent has started.

Thank you.

So the time window is after all the outpost Teku Nuhoch events are finished and before the Chak Gerent events start.

So it seems, the best way for this would be to start on the map at the time when a fresh map begins, try to go on a “meta map”, do all the Teku Nuhoch events, then start the LFG to get more players, and after that try do convince my fellow players to do the escort event and afterwards kill the skelk.

For this achievement you have to kill the Champion Great Skelk Regurgitant but according to the Wiki he appears after the event “Escort the lore seeker to the underground lake”.

But whenever I check, Lore Seeker Zolin just stands at the waypoint Teku Nuhoch and you can talk to him (or her) but the escort event does not start.

Does anyone know when the event usually starts and if other events need to be done before it starts?

thanks.

ANet and the case of Insider Trading

In addition, this week brings to light a comment that Crilt has made, in regards to this. “Crilt” is essentially Dulfy’s BFF, and probably doesn’t speak for Dulfy, but it does put things into quite a larger perspective as to why this is happening:

“There is a lot of hate about “insider trading” going on at the moment. What you guys need to realize is that it’s not necessarily a bad thing. Look at it this way.
(…)
We don’t get paid for doing this, at least not in dollars. What we do get is opportunities to gain more in game currency than the majority of the playerbase. So we get a bit more gold than you and your friends. “But that’s not fair!” I hear you cry. “Why should some people have secret information and get an advantage in game because of it?” Because, ladies and gentlemen, we WORK HARD to make the game better for you. Some promoters are effectively doing a full time job for free. You begrudge us some in game currency? Don’t you think that’s kinda mean? In addition most promoters are very generous people who share the wealth with their friends, guilds and new players.

So, as Crilt writes “We” he/she confirms that at least he/she is part of the group of people who do insider trading.

This justification just sounds like “Hey, I just had to rob the bank because I work full time as an artist but no one wants to pay for my art. So I needed the money to continue to make pretty pictures that you all like.”

I do not think that insider trading is justified because it is seen by some as a way to “pay” fan-sites and youtubers.

I would never ever use SEPA anyway, if something goes wrong your account will be permanently banned. Its the most unsave of all offered payment options.

Well, debatable. I always used SEPA and had no issues with it. And even my wife, with had some problems with a SEPA purchase in the past still has her account up and running and word from the support that her acc won’t get touched in that matter.

Maybe your wife was just lucky.

It was discussed in the german forum a while ago and this was confirmed by a GM:
https://forum-de.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/Accountsicherheit-Nutzung-des-ELV/first#post492367

https://forum-de.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/SEPA-Lastschriftzahlung-f-r-Gems

There is no input validation with this payment method at A-net or their payment provider (Digital River), so if you only make a small error (little typo in the number etc.) than you risk, that your game account will be permanentely closed and can not be re-opened.

This risk (small typo results in game account lost) is not with other payment methods like PayPal, credit card, etc…

A GM confirmed that. If a ELV/SEPA transaction fails and there is some charge back from Digital River to A-Net (or DR tells A-Net that they think this is a risk/fraudulent account) then A-Net has to close the account permanentely because A-Net has a contractual agreement with DR that says so.

And because DR as a payment providers seems to have a lot of frauds with SEPA, they seem to be very “trigger happy”.

I use SEPA transactions a lot, but never with A-Net or Digital River.

I don’t agree. If I bought the game and the expansion, I should have the whole game available to play and enjoy.

In my opinion: Yes, you should.

A-Net included the “base game” in HoT for free so that new players do not have to buy several “add-ons / parts” to have the full game.

That is why the decision, that the LS2 was not also included for free in HoT, does not make sense to me.

Anyway, I assume I’m going to get a lot of flak for even recommending compensation (probably being called “entitled”), but the fact of the matter is it’s my money and I’d rather spend it with a business that has a better response. The situation really is a shame.

I disagree with you. I think the situation is not a shame and I think that the several responses of Mike O’Brian over the last hours are an example of good communication.

The world does not end when you could not play the gamy for 8 hours or when you loose the progress of 2.5 hours gameplay. And for players in “extreme situations” (like a dropped pre-cursor in that time, that is now gone) A-Net offered help to restore/fix that.

Thats why I do not demand anything as “compensation”.

However, if A-Net would send me an in-game email like “We are sorry about the inconvenience and as a little present to make you happy here is a BLC-Ticket (or something else)” … I would happily accept it.

In DAI, there are rifts opening up disgorging demons. In GW2 LS, there are rifts opening up disgorging displaced creatures.

Well, you know, there is also the game “Rift”, in which rifts are opening with all kinds of demons and creatures that you have to kill to close the rift.

Morale of the story: Red Earthy Stuff = Evil.

Nope. red=fire, red=blood.

Don’t know nor care about DAI, but in GW2 it is not unexpected that there is a lot of “red” at the location where a Bloodstone exploded.

Would you prefer to be stuck behind a desk, and never allowed to explore and be on the front lines again? If so, I’m sorry you can’t see the bureaucratic side of Tyria.

It was cheap and cheesy. Because the player-character is the hero of tyria and if the player-character would become Pact Commander he/she could have made it possible with his/her influence to not be stuck behind a desk.

But A-Net wanted DE 3.0. I like the name the child called it.

He does not need to do the HoT-story.

He needs gliding (with leyline gliding would be good for the new map) and optional mushroom jumping. So he should visit the HoT maps for the mastery Points.

For unlocking the masteries he also meeds exp. Exp he can get from the HoT maps or the “new map”. (I think the new map give much more exp that HoT).

Sorry if this has been asked before, or just in general sounds like a silly question. I was wondering if I skip the HoT story to check out LS3, will it make any sense? I’m on part 7 of the story which I believe is still Act 1.

You can skip the HoT story and play LS3 but be aware that the end of the HoT story will be spoiled (if you do not already know what happend to XXX and YYY and ZZZ).

Secondary question, I hear buzz about a “new area.” Is the only way to reach it by playing the LS3 story?

It is a normal map. If you have a “teleport to friend” scroll you can port with that to a friend that is in the map. The only other way is right now: play LS3-Episode-1

In my experience it is best to play the LS when it is new and a lot of players are doing it (at least the openworld parts).

The new map is fun, if a bit more simplified than previous maps. It reminds me of how Dry Top was when we only had access to the first part of it, so I wonder if future updates will open up more of Bloodstone Fen?

The map was a lot of fun. When I first entered the map I thought (in a positive way), what drug did the designers took to make such a chaotic map.

But I do not think the map will be expanded. On the north and east borders of the map are the raid maps, on the west border is the guild hall map and on the south border is Verdant Brink.

The worst part for me was the very end when freaking Lazarus the Dire shows up out of NOWHERE and acts like a stereotypical ego-maniacal cartoon supervillain. Seriously he pops out of nowhere yelling “I AM YOUR GOD!! MWAHAHA” which was very stupid and infantile in my honest opinion. He even does the gesture where he holds his hands up and leans back as if he is drunk with evil and power. You might as well have given him a big curly mustache to twirl and a black cape to flip aside dramatically.

Lazarus is the LAST living member of the most powerful magical race from the last time the elder dragons rose. In GW1 he was a big deal. In fact he is supposed to be dead! How did he come back to life? I remember a very small mention of “resurrection” at some point but there was honestly no cause to connect those dots at any point. Having him appear suddenly at the end like that has got to be the worst instance of deus ex machina in GW2 to date. He randomly appears, kills all the remaining enemies for you, and allows your main nemesis for the story (Caudecus) to escape.

The Caudecus story was predictable. I never thought we catch him in this episode.

Lazarus really was a badly presented deus-ex-machina.

Players of the last raid wing will know that he was (kind of) resurrected (or at least it was tried) and maybe there was a NPC in the map that did a story recap of the raid story part, but he should have been introduced into the LS3 story much better.

Would be cool but don’t think the wvw maps could handle unrestricted gliding and launchpads.

Now if the launchpads were like cannons and mortars and set build sites with predetermined facing could work well. Anet would be able to test all glide range from the pad and set the launch arc how best works.

My opinion is that the original design intention (prior to implementation) was that WvW would be endgame for those who wanted open world style and large scale pvp

Yes. Another intention for this was the idea, that there should be no openworld-PvP in the PvE maps (like it is in other games) because there should only be game-mechanics in PvE that encourage players to play together (but not against each other).

So, WvW is A-Nets version of openworld, large scale, PvP and for players that want openworld PvP, WvW is the endgame. Because there is no other endgame for this game mode in GW2.

The last few weeks the MU had been fairly balanced with then all of a sudden AM get linked with another server giving them population that will rival most higher tier servers. Its stupid.

I think calling the last two months “balanced” for AM is wrong. Because it was not balanced. AM had “outnumbered” buff nearly the whole time on most maps and dropped fast since the start of the server linking two months ago to the lowest rank (18 in EU) and stayed there without any chance to compete with the other servers (that includes RoF) and was beaten and on the 3rd place in every match for weeks/months. http://mos.millenium.org/servers/history/25

So it was clear that AM has to be linked with another server to have a chance.

Quickest way to progress the reward track?

in WvW

Posted by: Zok.4956

Zok.4956

Do the WvW daily. Each daily gives you a potion of WvW rewards, which gives you 250 points for the reward track. You can do 4 WvW dailies per day, thats 1000 points per day. A lot of them can be done solo really fast.

When I remember correctly the maximum-points-per-tick is 195 in external battleground and the home borders which is higher than in the Edge of the Mists.

Cap camps/towser etc. as fast as you can to reach the maximum 195 points per tick. It helps to be in a group that caps larger items (they give more), or be on a maps with the ountnumbered buff, or if your guild has the "Guild WvW Reward Track Boost "

If you then have the maximum of 195, it gives you 195 point every 5 minutes at the tick, you just have to stay on the map and participate a little because if you are 10 minutes inactive, the point-per-ticks will decrease.

You can switch maps and even leave WvW without loosing your points-per-tick (but the 10 minute timer is still active) but you have to be on a WvW map at the tick to advance your reward track.

So, if you have 195 points-per-tick and you play in primetime and your map has waiting queues, help and do what the commanders say. If you are playing off-peak and others do not need your help, just escort or kill a dolyak, or turn a camp, every 5-8 minutes.

The new worlds would have lowered population caps and be free to transfer to for a period of time.

Another way to spread the population over the worlds would be to delete all existing worlds and make all new worlds very small mini-worlds with low population caps (10% or 30% of now). Then you can link these new mini-worlds better together to big-worlds and balance the population better.

I probably would have liked the linking IF the server I play on would have been linked so that it would have nearly the same world population than the other linked servers have that are blobbing over the server.

Right know its only a numbers game and we can not counterbalance a discrepancy of 100-200 (maybe even more) active players with player skill.

Its not fun, when your server is already at the lowest position (18), to know that you still don’t have a chance because you do not have enough players and that this will be going on for the next 2 months of the beta at least.

If a dev says “It can’t be done” I take it with a grain of salt. Because over the years I have heard a lot of devs saying “it can’t be done” until it was done (for whatever reasons).

Other MMO game companies with an “old” engine (more or less single threaded engine for DX9) upgraded their engine to multi-core/multi-threaded that also supports DX12. So those companies saw a commercial benefit in this development effort.

For GW2 I would not see the biggest performance boost in DX12 itself, but in the optimization (and partly redesign) of the game engine.

However, Mike O’Brian does not say “It can’t be done” but instead, that they have no plans to do this. That’s his decision.

Could it be, that the map limit for linked and not linked servers is different or that the map limit is lower than before the linking-beta?

During evening prime-time we had for once a small waiting queue of 3-4 on our home map for nearly an hour. We had only one public squad (not full) and no extra guild squads/groups on our home map. We checked and found only around 10 AFKers at the usual places.

Let’s Talk Scoring…

in WvW

Posted by: Zok.4956

Zok.4956

In my personal opinion scoring should be based on proportional wvw population during each tick. If each team has, say a minimum of ~30% of the total wvw population then each tick should be full, if one server has 50% and the other two have 25%, ticks should not be as high, as the one server has a clear advantage over the other two, and continue decreasing to say one server having =<90% of the wvw population during the tick.

This does a few things: it does not reward stacking a time zone where your opposing servers have no coverage because you will not be equally rewarded for that time zone as you would be if coverage was roughly even on all servers. It encourages splitting up stacked time zones and distributing evenly amongst their tier, because at that point they will be fully rewarded for their efforts.

The issue with night capping isn’t that it’s “off prime time hours” or even that it’s rewarding stacking a time zone, the issue is that it rewards exploiting unbalanced population levels. If all 3 servers have a total of 15 people in wvw each, they all have an equal chance to attack and defend objectives, and thus should be rewarded as well as during prime time, because there is no imbalance. If one server has 40 people in wvw and the other two servers have a combined 5 people, the stacked server should NOT be rewarded because they don’t have to put any effort into attacking or defending. It’s not about total population, it’s about population balance.

I think you are right and made a good point.

Let’s Talk Scoring…

Sigil spam is stupid, salvaging stuff is so unnecessarily tedious with them. Would be even better if the item that ate them could just be rightclicked and had options

You know that there are some salvaging kits that give more sigils and some give less?
If I have full inventory with a lot of collected stuff I only have a handful of sigils left after I used my copper-fed salvage-o-matic to clean my inventory.

So, I think a better and more consistent way for people that don’t want any sigils at all would be to make a salvaging kit, that does not give any i.e. blue/green sigils.

Reduce the impact of night capping?

in WvW

Posted by: Zok.4956

Zok.4956

Hello,

WvW is a match.

The first principle of every organized match is equity in chances to win for all teams : Only collective and individual skills should make the decision.

That’s why they have a simple rule: same amount of players (football, soccer, rugby, basket….).
The only reason for a handball/football/rugby/etc. team to have less player than another is because of a penalty…and it’s always one of the biggest penalty because to play with less players is always consider as a huge disadvantage.

The particularity of the GW2 WvW is the length of the match (168 hours) and the size of the teams (up to 4×80=320 players according to my memory).
Teams have not the same amount of players to relay themselves on the field during the 168 hours and do not have an access to the same category of players (in term of time zone coverage specially in Europe with the mix of “national language based team” and “european teams”).

In fact Gw2 WvW organizes “asymmetric confrontation”…but does not manage enough that asymmetry.

This is unsatisfactory.

And what we call “night-capping” is only a symptom of that general situation.

I think you made a very good observation.

direct x 12 would help this game. since this game is cpu bound.

Yes, DX12 would help this game. Even DX11 would help this game.

Bcause the bottleneck is not only the DX-version itself, but how the GW2-client processes requests. So A-Net has to recode some important parts of the GW2-client for implementing DX11 or DX12 and optimize it for multicore-cpus. This recoding of the client could already remove some bottlenecks and could increase performance and stability of the client.

If you’re playing WvW and there are 5 of you vs 20, that’s what you call a population imbalance, just because it happens to be in your night time doesn’t make it a night time thing.
WAIT! – ANET? You have already mentioned that balancing population is an issue? Then why additionally are you using an offensive term of “night capping” for the exact same issue, and treating it as a separate issue? It suggests exactly what we are all thinking, that you value your international community less.
SO -Can we all PLEASE drop the term night capping….?

We can call it “off-time capping”, if you like.

But with one thing you are right. It has nothing to do with daytime or nighttime but with population imbalances between servers during some time periods.

As soon as A-Net can resolve and counterbalance the results of population imbalances, “night capping” and “off-time capping” and “primetime blob capping” wouldn’t be a thing.

As a result, the few remainings players of Abaddon’s Mouth play with a grim sense of humor because they are rolled over by the big blobs of the other servers again and again and again and do not have a remote chance of winning.

On the positive side: Abaddon’s Mouth does not have wait queues anymore, not even in prime time and even has the [Outnumbered] buff at a lot of times.

Maybe A-Net should re-think about how they link servers together.

Will there be Spring-Update latecomers?

Hi,

there are certain things that A-Net has worked on before the spring-update but that did not make it into the spring-update, i.e. changes to the mystic forge. Also I was under the (maybe false) impression that changes to the megaservers were planned for that update.

Will these updates come asap, when they are ready, as latecomers of the spring-update, or will they be postponed until the summer-update (which is more about content) or the fall-update?

Chaos gloves!

Not sure I’d put my hands in them. They look kinda dangerous.

Plus, you know, CHAOS! Your fingers might end up in a different dimension. Or in several different dimensions.

Be careful out there, kids.

Yeah I know. A friend of mine (Anna D.) lost her pinky in a different dimension.

But you know … the chaos gloves are bigger and different on the inside. It’s only chaos on the outside. So they protect my hands from my chaos staff very well.

I agree on that. Having more than 12 slots would be better I think. Maybe a pool of 18, so you’ve got a choice of 6 per game mode would be better.

If there are more choices I can see a complain coming from a few people (not me), that feel obligated to do all of them, that it is to much they have to do every day.

I'd be good too if I paid for Heart of Thorns

Doesn’t it bother anyone that you have to PAY for be better?

GW2 (ignoring the gemstore), is still B2P (buy to play) with a trial-mode that is F2P (free to play). To pay for the HoT features/content, if you want them, fits in the B2P model, so it does not bother me and I also do not think that you would become better with that.

If I don’t have to spend it, I would prefer not too. You’re talking to a broke college student, so legit I barely buy any consumables.

I am sorry for you that you are broke. But there are always things in life that are not affordable.

She is only suppose to “fix” personal story chapter 7 after the “Forging the Pact” story step.

But she is bugged and keeps sending messages to every character. Every time you enter LA. Over and over.

Not every character. I have a low-level character that did not started the personal story yet, and this character does not receive her emails.

I think she triggers the email for characters depending on that the characters have completed the story step bevor the “missing” step, but not the following step but does not take into account that there are characters that, despite the missing step, have completed the personal story and are not stuck and that is why she can not fix it and sends this email every time you enter LA.

Well, we’ve had 3 1/2 good(ish) years of a GW version without glowstick hands. Couldn’t last forever.

We already have the “Radiant Vambraces” https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Radiant_Vambraces_Skin
where you can hide the upper end at the arm with chest armor, so that you only show glowing hands.

You can swap it by pressing the small arrow next to the commander tag icon on the top left of your screen. See right next to it’s 1/50 and it should be 1/10.

Thats it. Thanks very much. I’m in.
