2 months later and I’ve seen everything the xpac had to offer.

Me too (mostly). But that is expected from an xpac.

Now I’m back to grinding the same stuff over and over for cosmetics, like the good old times.

From the new content of an xpac you normally get around 20-60 hours of playtime before it becomes repetitive.

Let’s also not forget that by making these dungeons at lower levels it means you can be undergeared going in with a lot less traits so that made them really hard when leveling and easier once fully geared/specced. Then they introduced Ascended gear which the dungeons clearly were never balanced around.

Ascended gear does not effect most of the dungeons. Because in dungeons that are below level 80 (and also in sub-80 maps), Ascended gear has exact the same stats as exotic gear.

Was this intended?

yes but after the 125 times, i found im making more coin/snowflakes than i put into it.

How much more?

When I salvage 1 flawless I got 32 tiny and when I combine them again: 32 tiny -> 16 delicate -> 8 glittering -> 4 unique -> 2 pristine -> 1 flawless

No win, no loss, but in the end a lot of clicking and some AP when you do this a few hundred times.

How are your numbers and are you using any boosters?

You’re complain about grinding for COMESTICS. They’re entirely optional, and no one force you to do so.

That is no argument because everything in the game is optional.

The JP honestly isn’t that hard. Yes, it takes patience. But finishing it is more rewarding if you have to work for it.

Some activities are fun, but an annoying JP isn’t. And the reward ? yeh, right. Let’s not waste words on that please. Even the shoulders aren’t worth that much of a pain in the b..t.

The reward is INSANE. Sure, if you spend a couple hours and get it it doesn’t feel that rewarding- but when you get to a point where it becomes muscle memory, you can make MAD gold. One run takes about 1:50 minutes. Each round is half an hour long, therefore giving you the opportunity for 14-16 successfully runs in a row before you are met with a loading screen. And at 10 presents per completion (which is about 90s atm), that’s about 12.5 gold in half an hour (leaving room for errors), which is about 25 gold an hour. That is AMAZING, and is currently one of the best money making methods in the game.

Spending “a couple of hours” on a time gated JP is not fun for me. Instead it feels like hard assembly-line work. And finishing this JP does not feel better only because of it beeing hard work.

And talking about “work” (and not just playing for fun): 25 gold equals around 2.5 USD. So you are talking about a salary of 2.5 USD per hour. That is way below the minimum wage where I live.

If I would like to “work for gold” I would not play the JP but work overtime in my real-life-job and spend the extra money to buy gems. I would get much much more “gold per hour” and also my real-life job is less frustrating than this time gated JP. At least for me.

Its this mentality that everyone should have everything regardless of effort put forth that wrecks games. Not that I’m not sympathetic to those who cant get the stuff they want, but like playing CoD/BF/WoW/any game and complaining that you cant do X because its hard and it should be nerfed to fit you, It’s just silly.

It is not about making it easy but about giving alternatives for players and this does not wreck games per se but was one of the reasons why GW2 was a success in the first place.

One example: In the past, people needed WvW maps for world completion and a lot of PvE players where farmed on those maps and for a lot of PvE players this was not fun. As a result, A-Net removed WvW maps from the 100% world completion requirement.

For some players the game was too easy and this was not fun for these players.
For some players the game is too hard (especially since HoT) and this is not fun for these players.

A-Net needs to balance the game and the different game modes, so that most of the players (not all, because that is not possible) are having fun in the game.

When I remember a lot of discussions of last year (2014) correctly, the test of the scavenger hunt, and that you have to touch different game modes to complete a scavenger hunt, was acclaimed by a lot of players.

However, I think A-Net did “too much” of this and it should be toned down a little.

And: Making an already problematic game mode (time gated jumping puzzles and the HoT-adventures) more essential was not a good decision.

Last year I completed the Wintersday-JP after a lot of practicing (this year I do not bother to do it) and depending on the time of day it was possible to finish or it was impossible. Because of the lag the game had in the evening , it was impossible for me to finish in the evening. That was not fun but frustrating. Of course, that is just me.

The game technology behind GW2 is not very good to make this “timing sensitive Super Mario style” mini-games and makes it unnecessary hard and very unfun for some players. Players are not only challenged by the “game content” but players (some more than others) also have to fight the limitations of the game technology/engine.

This is why I think those “mini-games” should not be a required part of scavenger hunts, achievements and masteries.

It could be much, much worse than what is going on right now. At least there’s an option to pay for gems with gold, some mmo devs don’t even allow that option.

I dont want to pay it with GEMS or GOLD, they deserve neither, i want to earn it in game.

If you don’t want to pay it with gems or gold, then where will the devs get money to make content?

Answer: From the purchase price.

GW2 was B2P and HoT is B2P. B2P = buy to play.

Then all games that charge a subscription (currently or in the past) are ripping players off as they could have been supported without them?

You are funny. Subscription based games are not B2P.

If a game company/publisher chooses B2P, then usually all the income comes from the purchase price.

Letting customers pay for the game (like in a B2P game) and letting them pay again for some extra stuff thats behind a shop (like in a F2P game) is a sign that a game company has become greedy.

I genuinely struggle with a reason to do anything in Guild Wars 2 right now because other than (…) I’ve literally done everything Guild Wars 2 has to offer already.

My general problem with Heart of Thorns rests with the fact it isn’t much to do… ala, game. It’s just of collecting things that arbitrarily go into upgrading the Guild Hall or advancing Scribing some inch more.

I don’t think I can possibly be alone in feeling this is a bit of the issue.

No, you are not alone. But I do not see this as a problem of GW2, but as a basic principle of every MMO.

In every game, the content (story content, call it what you like) is limited. Like in a book or a movie: At some time you are done and have finished the game and you do something else.

But the MMO genre introduced “grinding”, “farming” and “content gating”, so that players stay longer online and do not get (or just get it delayed) the feeling “I have finished the game”.

GW2 is trying to do a lot of things different/better than other MMOs, but it is still a MMO.

A-Net put a lot of good ideas in HoT, and also a lot of things that a lot of players asked for.

However, with this changes, HoT is quite different than the core game. And with changes it will always be expected that some players will be lost (when a company changes a product to make it better or to attract new customers, there will always also be a customer loss because of this changes).

I think A-Net has put a lof good things into HoT, but they have not always found the right balance (as an example, increased the grinding/farming for some things too much, or the new WvW map). Yes, they should fix the bugs and change some things and then some other parts and more parts of the game would be more fun. But it does not change the fact that playes will be done with the game at some time.

I am sorry for you (and lots of others) because it seems there are not many things in HoT that you enjoy (or have enjoyed).

But the fact that I have (kind of) “finished HoT” (at least the parts that are fun for me) does not give me a bad feeling because I had a lot of fun playing HoT.

How much sooner do you think players would have exhausted content compared to the existing iteration of the expansion?

  • the fast “content burners”: A few days, maybe weeks, more
  • the casual players: A few month more

When I started with GW2 it took me around 6-8 weeks to get to level 80 with my first character but it took me several months more to explore most of the game.

What do you need to buy for PvP?

Players that stay longer online are buying more in the shop and PvP players are longer online than PvE/WvW players. So more PvP players result in more gemstore revenue for A-Net. Thats an important reason behind the PVP marketing campaign.

As per title. No idea if a solo player should purchase this or not. Opinions?

As a WvW focused player, absolutely not.

If you only play WvW there is not much in HoT (maybe the elites) for you to buy because the new WvW map can be accessed without having HoT.

Some people had hoped that the new WvW-map would only be accessible für HoT owners, so that the others could play on the old map they liked more.

Still works in english. Weird. I know I was playing music in the background but lots of people do that, and gave them credit.

Youtube/Google and the german GEMA could not agree about how much money YouTube has to pay to GEMA for playing licensed music, so Youtube/Google decided to block access from Germany for videos that have music that may could fall under the GEMA-license rights to not violate copyright laws etc. within Germany.

Maybe I’ll upload one with no sound.

That would solve the problem.

VB is the absolute easiest map to get 100% due to:

1. Quick access to all places through gliding.

2. 80% of HP points are free, with trash mobs or no mob at all. Only tough one is Vampire Bat and Frog, which you can easily find people to help you do so.

3. There’s no “hard to reach” poi or vista.

4. It’s a small map if you exclude the sky.

I have all 9 classes finishing VB already for the ascended weapon collection.

I thought that too, but now I think DS is much easier to complete 100% (kind of) solo.

The only problem/challenge with DS is: You have to be on schedule at the right time to LFG to a probably good/full map. Everything else is (kind of) easy to solo.

After the three towers are finished, when the end-fight on the islands starts, you can go to the three towers (waypoints are open) to get the three HP without beeing disturbed by mobs etc.

After the mouth is defeated you can get the hero-point,vista, POI there and then you can run from other waypoints to get the other gated three hero-points etc.

Everything else is not gated or protected by bosses so you can do it solo everytime you want, but it helps if you avoid some groups ob mobs.

What DS annoys me the most is that 15 mins time limit to get everything done.
Often I have to do at least 2 times to get everything..

Don’t wanna waste an extra 2 hrs every time :/

I think the 15 minutes are Ok for map completion (of the gated items) and pod farming (and farming of the two pets for ranger) if you get used to the map and know where you have to go.

Of course, there is not enough time for also killing mobs, rezzing people, standing at the merchant, etc..

Best class for solo'ing HoT content

Zok.4956

What I am looking for is what YOU think is the most optimal class for solo’ing HoT content in terms of survivability without sacrificing too much DPS

Before HoT my main where warrior and ele and I also had guardian for his “loot stick”.

In HoT I created a revenant, necro and ranger from scratch and got elites for all my characters.

You can survive with all these classes in the jungle. However, ranger (not druid) and reaper are the most fun for me in HoT and I amost felt (I am/was totally unexperienced with these classes, so there is of course some “learn-to-play” from my side) that both are some kind of “easy mode” in HoT. because how easy it felt to surive in HoT and manage the content.

As others have mentioned: The pet and long-bow from the ranger helps a lot.

And in melee the reaper is sooo much more fun than my warrior. At the end of a lot of fights my reaper has still full health, where I would have to be very careful with my warrior to not get killed/downed. And the fights with my reaper seem to be faster that with my warrior. So better survivability and more DPS, it seems.

I do not say, reaper and ranger are the best classes für HoT content. But for me they are the most fun classes and they make (for me) the HoT content a lot easier.

Since when did GW2 become a Hardcore MMO?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Zok.4956

you seem completely ignorant to the fact that PvE players have sustained this game as the majority purchasers of gems which are the financial backbone to this game, seeing how this games streaming accounts are joking unpopular they are not even relevant to the profits generated by GW2.

A-Net is not a charity that needs our money to “do good” and “help the game”. They are a company and selling a product (including an online-service) and virtual goods (the AH). Whatever they do with the money (finance further development, buying some company air-planes and fancy houses for upper management, or financing completely different other games within NCsoft) is totally up to A-Net/NCsoft and about this you (and me) are entitled to nothing.

However, they said last year that their metrics show, that “more online-time per player” corresponds to “more revenue in the ingame-show” and they have said that pvp-players have more online-time per player than the other player types in GW2, so more pvp-players results in more in-game-shop revenue for A-Net.

And: pvp-players do not cost so much than PvE-players when you compare how much new content they need/want. (thats my assumption, not what A-Net said).

As a result of this they have created a marketing strategy to focus on PvP to increase their revenues.

That includes several ways to attract non-PvP players to try-out PvP but also to give the good PvP players some kind of “rock-star” feeling, to attract PvP players from outside of GW2. According to their metrics, this marketing strategy already works.

Yo do not have to like it, but the gems you bought do not entitle you to change that strategy.

What is your favorite part in the HoT Personal Story? (Spoiler tags please!)

I have no favorite part. Except that I could kill someone (or something) at the end, because I wanted to do that since the end of my personal story.

What Specialization have you tried so far? Which is your favorite? What one will you try next?

I have fully unlocked all specializations but have the most fun in the HoT maps with my new Reaper and my new Ranger (yes, not Druid).

What is your favorite event or map in HoT?

I like VB because I can climb up and fly/glide (gliding mastery fully unlocked) above the clouds over the complete map.

And I like TD 2nd most because of its originality and its “tangled-ness”

From the Events I liked the Itzel-event-chain in VB the most when I did it the first time.

Are there any other areas you are excited by? PvP? Fractals? WvW? Guild Halls? Masteries? Raids?

I was excited for Guild Halls. But after we got it, it just seems to be a massive gold/material sink for developing the Guild Hall further, but with little benefit.

What are you most looking forward to now?
Some bug fixes and changes for the mastery progression where mastery points are not locked behind Gold/Silver of the HoT-Minigames/Adventures. But I have no idea, if this will ever happen. Until then I try to not care about mastery progression anymore.

Gw2 vs eso vs ff14 vs wow

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Zok.4956

Zok.4956

So something I wanted to bring up….

Gw2 was by far the best of these games in my opinion. It was a blast for the average joe player logging in, playing how you wished as long as you wanted and logging out. HoT ruined gw2 in many ways.

One reason many people don’t like eso or ff14 is that dreaded gear treadmill. It kinda stinks, you farm hours and hours for weeks for that new weapon or armor to grow stronger, then the next expansion hits and you do it again. That’s why I left ff14 to come back to this game.

But now gw2 is worse. Why?? Because when you farm and farm for such a long time and get that amazing new armor you feel extremely accomplished in the end. But with gw2 you log in to farm masteries? There is no sense of any accomplishment. Your better off now in the other games doing the same exact farm to actually get something.

In other MMOs you farm for “level ups” for the new, raised max-level and new gear that has the new max level because the stats of your existing gear became useless with the expansion.

In GW2 you only farm for “level ups” for the masteries and you can still use your existing gear. I think that is better, because I really hated it in other MMOs when my gear, that took a long time to get, became useless from one day to the other.

Maybe you should farm for new gear (legendaries etc…) in GW2 if that makes you feel to have accomplished something.

If you don’t like this kind of progression system (aka gating) than better not play MMOs.

My opinion on raids (after first boss)

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Zok.4956

Zok.4956

As suggested by previous threads, I would much prefer 2 modes, an easier version (same boss, without a timer), and a harder mode (or same mode, but beating it under the timer gives breaks the limit of tokens you get per week and gives you a bit more).
I mean, surely there is a way to work around the frustration to make it so that we can both keep the challenge as it is, and offer an alternative way for everyone to still be able to fight this boss, even if they’re gonna need more time.

An “easy-mode” without a timer with less loot/achievements sounds like a goood idea.

Unsustainable map design

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Zok.4956

Megaserver does it best to alleviate this issue but player hopping with the LFG tool doesn’t help things either. Megaserver (algorithm driven) and LFG tool (player driven) seem to be fighting against each other imo, instead of working with one another.

On a high level view, its like players try to work together with Ai (megaserver) each with their own goals. I’m not sure if there is a solution for this because Megaserver goes by what Anet feels most players want.

Yes, there could be a solution. If people could see the list of “map instances/overflows” and choose one of their own without Ai. To choose a map Version/instance (like in GW1) is a player request I see from the first day, the megaserver-maps where announced from A-Net.

AFK raiders ruining Verdant Brink meta

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Zok.4956

Zok.4956

A-Net should make a small “waiting map” for raids that is accessible from Verdant Brink where the entrance is now. But this “waiting map” should have its own waypoint, so that raiders can, after the first map visit, directly go to the raid-waiting-map without disturbing Verdant Brink.

Why nerf spider?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Zok.4956

Zok.4956

I think it has more to do with farming competing with event. People who farm do so because it’s a better source of XP. The problem is, if too many think in that way it screw the meta-event for the rest of us. If they just give events more XP they shorten the time required to get mastery. So if they don’t want that, they have to nerf what compete the meta-event: the spiders being one thing.

If A-Net wanted that, they should not put the raid-entrance in Verdant Brink, because now a lot of people are standing in front of it, waiting until their raid starts.

Well yesterday me and my friends in the guild went into the raids with our hope at this being the hardest content ever. We were rdy we had a tank a healer a couple of dps guys and some condis thinking a raid will be a hard boss with hard game mechanics. The first 3 elites were amazing each one with its thing wow good job there Anet. Then the boss ……. 8 minutes on the clock…… let me just say that the ppl who actualy did this they did it with 4 meta condi engis and zerker metas other classes….
(…)
Does this sounds like a raid to you?
(…) For me it sounds like a dungeon with no corners for stacking. The raids were suposed to be the thing that would redeam the game from being called bug wars or stack in corner number 1. Yes the timer makes it chalanging i get it. But i was not looking for a race against time as i was looking for a hard boss with hard mechanics who would break the meta zerker reign. Should we understand that this is the way Anet controls the market? Or should we understand that the game is not fallowing the things they sayd in the manifesto trailer a few years ago.
(…)
I am sorry to say this but the new direction in wich everything became a farm and all this new meta….
(…)
i mean we were suposed to play each class as we wanted… i would love to be a tank for my team kiting the boss while the dps guys do what they are suposed to do and while a healer will keep me alive. That would be fun and make ppl feel better about raids. But no they had to turn this into a 10 minutes farm killing any hope of playong the game as you feel like.
(…)
why would i play a game that forces me to play as something i do not like in order to have a chance at the content i payd for? Fell free to share your opinions.

I am not sure about what exactely your rant is.

Did you fail killing the Vale Guardian and you are venting here or do you think it was too easy because you already killed him (then: GZ to your “world first”, as the one from DnT does not count).

A raid is, in my opinion, about a group of people (10 or more) who want to play together as a team to overcome a challenge. Which means, that not every individual can play as he/or she wants but should play how the team wants/needs it to overcome the encounter. Which means that sometimes a player has to go out of his/her “comfort zone”.

In less than 3 weeks, I’ve hit the wall with GW2 HoT, tired of the long Meta Events, sick of 75% of the maps and way points being contested. It’s just run like hell from one event to another, it’s getting old way to fast, Even Orr is relaxing compared to this!

It seems, you burned through the game/content too fast.

When the game started, I wanted to have gliding at max level. So I tried to grind XP as efficient as possible. It was not always fun. But after I got it, I started to play more relaxed and only doing the “fun” (for me) things. And I noticed, the XP still flows in and fills my XP-bar.

Your burnout seems to be a result of the pressure you put on yourself. So, take it slow, play something different (or nothing at all) and relax.

If you mean the jumping puzzle in the inner chamber in Tarir (Achievement: “Egg bearer”), you do not need ley-line gliding for that. I have done it and I do not have Ley-line gliding.

Do you regret pre-purchasing HoT?

No, I don’t regret it. I had fun in the beta weekends and I have fun now playing the game since the release of HoT.

Hey, can everyone check again? Thanks!

It is working for me. I can go to Diessa and also login with my character that was parked there.

Back to topic. The system definitely needs some tweaking. Maybe gives a 3 mins grace period if you’re not in the radius of the event and 5 mins grace period if you’re in the radius of the event before marking you inactive instead of a flat 30 seconds.

Yes. And maybe the way to the nearest waypoint should also be taken into account.

One time I did not get credit was, when I was dead near the end and instead of lying and waiting to be rez’ed I ported to the nearest waypoint and run back as fast as I could, at half the way back I got the message and when I arrived, the event was already finished.

On another event when I was dead I just was lying there and waited and got credit.

It should be the other way around.

The message turns grey and it says I’m inactive. Then a moment later event finishes I got NOTHING. WHAT DO YOU MEAN I’M INACTIVE? I’m right here trying to put down the fire.
Please fix your game!

I got this a few time with events, too. But I clearly participated and was doing the event when the message happens (I did the events where it happens not the first time and know what to do).

I really like this new system where you have to participate to get credit, but it should be fine-tuned or maybe still has some bugs.

How would you rate the HoT Fun Factor?
10 being the most fun
and 0 being the least fun.

10/10 – because I have a lot of fun in the HoT maps.

2. kill all the mobs and finally reach a new area —> can´t access area because you need to lvl masteries first

Yes, for some areas on the maps you seem to need masteries. But i would say more then 90% of areas you can reach without any mastery. Yesterday (I had no mastery und no elite) I just walked through all the new maps to get a feeling of the size of the maps and I could reach the golden city and also the forth map where it seems the final battle will happen.

Of course it would be much easier and faster with some masteries, but it is possible without any mastery.

you can only lvl masteries by completing Events

Wrong. After my little walk through the maps I had my first mastery (gliding) completed, even without trying. You get “mastery-xp” for (nearly) everything you are doing.

My HoT experience of the new maps: They are great but really challenge and confuse my sense of orientation. I have maybe not seen much, but I totally like the maps.

Talked to tons of scouts, at night and day, while Im wearing the Feather wings backpack on my Rev, yet I can’t seem to get the matching Glider … :\ Any idea why?

Talk to the scout in verdant brink where you start.

And you must have the back item equipped or in your inventory and the question comes after the scout shows you the map of verdant brink, so don’t interrupt him.

Canopy Bosses

Constructive feedback Boss #2
The 3 bosses ontop of the island of the canopy (where Mordremoth has no vines there at all, need a updraft or mushroom to get up there) I don’t know if it was just me but these 3 felt a bit lackluster in damage and perhaps a bug?
(…)
Whats everyones experiences with these Canopy bosses? Anyone else got feedback or other bosses to add to the list?

The platform with the Champion Mordrem tetrad and the Legendary Spellmaster Macsen is at the POI Ascendant’s Ring.

The visual design of the bosses, the platform and the fight were really great. But the fight itself felt too easy.

Anyone killed Champion Axemaster Gwyllion?

Hi,

has anyone killed the Champion Axemaster Gwyllion which is in the canopy above Doomteeth Waypoint?

When you fight him you will get a “targeted” and when the timer goes to zero you go down. Do you really have to train Nuhoch mastery or is there another way?

Only 2 mastery points during BWE #3?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Zok.4956

Zok.4956

So my question is: are there really only 2 mastery points available during this BWE?

Yes, it seems in BWE3 you only get 2 mastery points. I have visited all the points from BWE2 where I got a mastery Point in BWE2, but they dont give any mastery points in BWE3 any more.

The good thing: No pressure to farm for XP.

Mursaat temple?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Zok.4956

Is a Mursaat temple a building/house or a stone circle?

When you look from above (with tyria-3d) it is a platform with 8 stones standing in a circle. A perfect place for a platform fight.

In BWE3 you can get to the platform in the night cycle when a rally point is defended/saved an the copter arrives.

During day it looks like a nice platform. But during the night there are three champions on this platform.
