Love the raptor, can’t wait to get more mounts. Enjoyed exploring the open world again, just riding around, jumping chasms. Awesome setting, ambience, music. Haven’t experienced the unidentified gear. Should I be afraid?

Why did it take so long to start this official thread?

No one noticed that rytlock’s eyes changed colour? they were grey when he was a warrior, now they’re bright green.

Thats pretty curious.

That’s because he can now see the matrix code behind reality. He can’t see us. He can only see lines of vertically scrolling green text.

There is NO WAY that that Anet is going to be able to solve all three crisis pertaining too Palawa Joko, Balthazar, and Crystal Dragon in this short continuation NOT POSSIBLE.

Sure they can. The final meta will be a massive battle between the armies of Palawa Joko, Balthazar, the big K and the good guys – a battle of the four armies, if you will.

In the end, the PC will have to sneak past all the enemy forces and drop Balthazar’s favorite ring (the one he got from his mother) into Mount Maelstrom’s sister-volcano, Mount Malodramaticus.

I also heard that they were going to have some kind of flying eagle mounts in this expansion which could take the PC straight to the volcano but for some reason those mounts were canned.

Leftover Mastery Points Shop?

Zoltar MacRoth.7146

Why do some people feel ‘pressured’ to complete all the Mastery Tracks just to receive a reward like Spirit Shards that are commonly acquired from all kinds of sources?

[Just a small clarification on this point – there may be some people who feel ‘pressured’ to complete all tracks for the spirit shards, but there are those of us that didn’t care about the shards. We just didn’t like our xp being denied because we didn’t want to raid. It didn’t feel justified to lock open world xp behind a raid. Legendary armour, yes. XP, no. It was the principle of the thing. I hate to bring this up again but it needs to be said every time this comes up and is painted as a spirit shards only thing. /rant]

On the subject of spare mastery points – I agree with the school of thought that making them useful would only compel people to hunt for more of them, leading to them doing content they don’t want to do and complaining about it. Leaving them to ‘rot’ in your hero panel may be the least of multiple evils.

Major Concern- Mounts and "motion sickness"

Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) a few years ago which lasted way too long because the docs weren’t really sure on the diagnosis back at the time. As consequence, now the BPPV can be triggered easily, be from my own fast head movements or of others around me as well as images shaking and constantly rapidly moving scenarios at the background.

I take the recommended medications for its corrected period and duration over the period of a month when I notice my ears are acting “funny” before the real dizziness hits however, that helps to not let it get to the severe stage yet doesn’t exactly get rid of the dizziness, only soothes it.

Even under the medication during my period testing the PoF demo and yet it didn’t stopped me from feeling mild dizziness during the game test.

I know someone who had BPPV last year and I just wanted to ask – in addition to the medication, are you aware of the head exercises you can do? I don’t know if they’ll help but it’s worth trying. My friend kept them up for several weeks and in the end the BPPV settled down to a barely noticeable level.

more adventures? really?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Zoltar MacRoth.7146

My problem with the adventures was in the awkward controls: these were arcade-style minigames with controls that were fundamentally unsuited to arcade games.

I’m not against adventures in the expansion, as long as the controls are better implemented and we don’t have to be beetles or mushrooms.

Raptor racing – now that’s something that makes sense.

Zoltar MacRoth.7146

My 2 cents in brief: I liked the demo. It had a lot of elements that appealed to me. I got as far as completing the starting story and exploring a bit of the open world in the time I had available, and it made me want more. I’ve been critical of anet in the past and I was dubious about the expansion but based on the preview, it’s something that I’m going to enjoy.

EDIT: Other than some issues with dialog, I didn’t noticed any other technical issues that affected my experience.

In detail:

1. I’ve always enjoyed games set in Egyptian/Middle Eastern-like settings with their wide-open spaces, massive structures of mud-brick and limestone and, of course, pyramids. It’s a nice addition to the diverse range of environments in the game and it feels like a different culture, a different place. There’s something about deserts that’s evocative of ancient mysteries and forgotten places.

2. The opening movie of flying to the Crystal Desert on the airship and spotting what regions it flew over was fun. When the game started I was tempted to jump off the airship onto the passing building, but it turns out I didn’t have to. They put out a gang-plank. LOL. Still, would have been fun to abandon ship. xD

3. I enjoyed the opening scene. It got you straight into the middle of things, and led naturally to the village with the first heart. It’s just a pity that the PC is so adversarial. There was a point where I just wanted to ask Balthazar’s agent to take me to the big B for a diplomatic chat, instead of fighting. But it’s understandable why the option isn’t there.

EDIT: There were some dialog issues in this section where my PC would speak to someone and there would be a long pause before they spoke. It was only in this section and only inside the big pyramid at the start.

4. I wasn’t a fan of repeating hearts when they came out but Ember Bay eventually won me over. In the preview, the first heart you encounter comes on so naturally it was a while before I noticed it was a heart. Yes, it’s the putting-out-fires minigame again, but this one is enjoyable for the tool you use and the use of raptors to reach places. I wouldn’t mind doing it again.

5. Mounts.. are fantastic. People talk about them being ‘immersion breaking’ but personally I always found it immersion breaking to run everywhere, and to be able to run perpetually without exhaustion. I can’t do that in real life; I can’t relate to that in the game. But riding something – I can do that in RL and I can relate to it. Mounts add to the immersion for me. And if raptors existed in RL, you can bet somebody would figure out a way to ride them sooner or later.

6. The way the raptors were introduced felt so natural. The way they move feels so realistic. They seem like they have real momentum, as you’d expect from creatures like that. And the jumping across gaps… I can’t wait to train up the raptor mastery and leap canyons!

Incidentally, I had a hilarious experience the first time I hopped on a raptor. Upon mounting, I looked around for somewhere to try out its leap. I saw a bridge between two buildings that had a gap in it obviously meant for raptor-leaping. But from where I stood, I couldn’t see how to get to it. So I figured I was meant to jump over the buildings. And I did – I jumped from rooftop to rooftop to window-ledge to rooftop… on a raptor… until I got to the bridge.. and found there was a ramp leading up to it from the ground that I hadn’t seen before. LOL.

7. One thing that disappointed was discovering that you can only mount/dismount on the ground, just like you can only bundle/unbundle on the ground. There’s nothing wrong with that – I just had this crazy desire to leap off a building on a raptor and change to glider in mid-air, or, while gliding along, to switch to my mount and ride.

8. The other little change I’d really like in my heart of hearts is for mounts to stay around when you dismount. That may be asking too much but it would be so immersive to jump off Mr Tibbles (my raptor) and leave him to graze while I do whatever I need to do, then when I need him I could whistle and he’d come running over and off we go.

9. On that note, can we name our mounts? Cause I claim Mr Tibbles.

All the suggestions are good, but especially #1. I’d love it if the mount stayed around after I dismount and grazed or whatever. If I wander off and want to remount, I’d call it and it would come running over. Maybe that could be an option so people can choose either disappearing mounts or staying mounts.

Zoltar MacRoth.7146

Looks like this has been added to the patch notes now.

Confusion: Base damage has been increased to match bleed’s base damage; skill-activation damage has been reduced to compensate for this. This change only applies to PvE.

Torment: Base damage has been increased to match bleed’s base damage; movement damage has been reduced to compensate for this. This change only applies to PvE.

Mirage might not be completly dead in the water, still needs burning though.

Wonder what dps you could get out of a condi shatter build currently, doubt it wll be much but I’m curious and don’t have access to the game currently to try.

Oh kitten son. That’s actually quite good for Mirage in PvE. (and condi mesmer in general.)
And i’m very happy this change only applies in PvE.

Extra burning would have been nice I guess. I think torch got extra burning with a trait now? But not enough to make burn a strong condition for mesmer I think.

Oh, I don’t know. I’ve been experimenting with a burning chrono build and it’s actually more effective than I expected, despite only three sources of burn. Nothing like using torch 4 to suddenly appear amongst a group of mobs, setting them on fire.
Anet if you’re listening, more burns please!

Expansion Map currency?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zoltar MacRoth.7146

Zoltar MacRoth.7146

Simple question, given the karma cost of UM tools or the gem cost of the Permanent tools.

Will the expansion have a new map currency like Unbound Magic that will be required for everything, or will ANet stick to UM keeping the current tools relevant?

The UM tools are always going to be relevant, because there’s always stuff you can buy with UM.

Based on past statements, my guess is that PoF will have a set of map-specific currencies and LS4 will have a single one (like UM) plus individual harvestable mats that act as currency, i.e parallel to what we’ve seen this last year.

Would just be nice to know if we’re going to get Infinite Tools that collect Balthazar Bucks or something like that which will be required for all the new uber loots. Not sure if I want to splurge on a set of UM tools or wait it out.

Zoltar MacRoth.7146

I should be more clear: I’m talking about controllable moving platforms we can stand on. I’ve never been satisfied with having these cool looking airships just being an explanation as to why you teleported from one zone to another. I’d like to stand on one as it moves around, and partake in the teamwork based combat of platform-to-platform warfare.
Of course, the problem i see with this is that with guild wars being what it is, the instanced zones would limit the movement. I’m thinking that in a future expansion there could be one or more massive open area zones that allow for this kind of gameplay.

WvW

Who wouldn’t like to stand on the deck of an airship, barraging a hilltop fort into rubble? Or air-ship to air-ship combat, players leaping from deck to deck or pushing each other off the sides? Sigh. Maybe in a future expansion… Guild Wars 2: Black Flag.

Actually, there is a reason for the normal level-up effect. You may not have noticed, but it’s actually an AoE with knock-back. It’s a lovely, often unexpected “boom” during an intense combat, when you’re lucky enough for it to happen at the right time.

Anyway, as it IS an attack, there has to be some visual effect to go with it. No “invisible” attacks is one of those unwritten rules.

Seriously? It’s an attack! I never knew. Well now.. I think I’ll take my new toon out of DR before I level up and see this in action.

[Suggestion] Quality of Life

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zoltar MacRoth.7146

Zoltar MacRoth.7146

I’m going to go out on a limb and posit that this would be a venture that would not only be time-consuming, unneccessary and costly, but would also invalidate content that is specific to each map, so it’s unlikely to ever see implementation. Just my 2 coppers.

I knew someone would say something like this. Fortunately, you’re wrong. It’s a quality of life and it’s as costly or a lot less than any quality of life they have previously done. No revamps are needed, no special coding, nothing really. Just take away a few waypoints and merge the map server, very simple, fast, cheap work.

That’s a big claim .. and other people have already addressed why.

I understand that you’re the average joe that constantly pops up the time consuming money consuming line on every topic,

And that’s where YOU are very very wrong. I’m not that average joe. I’m the average joe who makes jokes on various threads that people face-palm to. I went out of my way this time to give you a serious pro bono heads-up of the kinds of issues you’re going to face with your suggestion, which you replied to in a smarmy way. That’s fine. I don’t mind. But just quickly before I get bored and start making face-palming jokes again, I’ll give you a little more serious advice.

Anet has no good reason to merge these maps as you suggest. They work well as they are, and merging them will objectively consume time, effort and money that could be spent elsewhere. That’s not going to be popular, so it requires some extraordinary reason to do it.
So far, you’ve made some sensationalist claims about how easy it would be – and backing up those claims is a challenge in itself – but even if they were true, it will still divert some effort, money and time from elsewhere. You’re going to have to work hard to sell that, and so far you’re not selling it well.

Lastly, have you considered map completion? Right now, completing the three maps gives you three chests. Merge them together and you have three times the work for one chest. That’s another thing you have to sell.

Thank you SO much ANET!
