[SPOILER] Justiciar Adrienne's bloodstone shield

in Living World

Posted by: Zoltar MacRoth.7146

Zoltar MacRoth.7146

I think that the people arguing that the instance is perfectly fine are suffering from a case of “I saw the answer instantly and therefore it must be obvious to everyone” syndrome. Different people understand situations differently, so what is obvious to one person may not be obvious to another. Telling the people who aren’t getting it that the situation is perfectly obvious isn’t helpful. If enough people aren’t getting it, then it’s not a problem with THEM.

I read what the NPC’s said in regards on how to do it.

I assume you mean the part where Marjory says:
Marjory Delaqua: These bloodstones can draw off the magic if we can catch the shield in the flux.
Marjory Delaqua: The unstable bloodstone chunks drain whatever energy gets nearby.

Since (unless it’s missing from the full transcript on the wiki) there are no other instructions mentioned at any point.

I don’t see how that would clear up any of the misconceptions mentioned in this topic. Ok, yes, we know we need to use the unstable bloodstone chunk to “catch the shield in the flux”. But if (like many people in this topic) you’re under the impression that the golems shields were removed because they were standing close to the bloodstone shard or close to you when you used Counter Magic, or when the bloodstone shard was destroyed it will seem perfectly logical that you need to do the same thing again here. Until it doesn’t work.

(Alternatively if I’m completely wrong here and there are instructions missing from the Wiki I’d appreciate it if you could point me to the relevant dialogue so I can add it.)

That dialogue was more than enough. If players missed it then they can always use a little critical thinking

Wow

It’s part of playing games. Nothing needs to be laid out in front of players telling them to do this and do that. Every single LS that has had some form of a boss in the story instance, has received complaints about being too difficult or people not knowing what to do. It’s not like this is Dark Souls. The most common thing that I see is that players try one thing, it doesn’t work, and then they give up.

Going back to Justiciar Adrienne, had the players not just camped on the shard the entire time, they would’ve realized that there’s a beam between them and the shard. If they had listened and/or read the NPC’s dialogue, they would have known that the shields are disabled when caught in the flux/beam. All it takes is simple observation about what is going on and analyzing what isn’t working and what could possibly work.

In fairness though, did the dialogue actually say ‘beam’ at any point, or just ‘flux’?
Because they don’t mean the same thing to me and probably others too. If I hadn’t read here how the thing works, I wouldn’t have got the answer from ‘flux’.

What did you think flux meant? When I heard flux, I immediately thought back to Ghostbusters and their proton packs. When I pulled back from the crystal, lo and behold, there was a beam.

Well… when I heard flux, I thought of the flux capacitor from Back to the Future. I don’t remember flux coming up in Ghostbusters at all so I googled it. The only mention of flux I could find was from the “The Real Ghostbusters” tv series from the 80’s, which was based on the movie.

So… you’re saying that to understand the dialogue.. players have to have watched a tv series from the 80’s? You have to see how that might be a tad more confusing that just calling it a beam?

That is in no way what I said. Seriously…

It is just the first thing that came to my mind when I read flux. Geez. If players want to understand what it means then they need to understand its definition. Simple as that.

Here’s the thing: if you bring up ‘flux’ in casual conversation, what are people going to think of first? Not Ghostbusters. “Back to the Future”, most likely. Maybe “Aeon Flux”. Neither of those will help a player get to ‘beam’. Neither would googling “define:flux”. I tried it. You just happened to have specialised knowledge that led you to the answer quicker than others. That’s not critical thinking. It’s luck.

I personally don’t care what word anet used. The encounter isn’t hard to figure out by chance, experimentation or checking the forums. But like anything else, it can always be improved. Discussing it helps anet tune future encounters to better suit a wider audience. Claiming the encounter is perfect and we’re not capable of critical thinking doesn’t help anybody.

It’s a fun event overall and worth doing – but the flaws in the indicator device really need to be highlighted. It’s not the entire event that’s flawed, just the device, and there’s no hate towards anet or the game in pointing that out. There’s no need to defend either. We’re just discussing what works and what doesn’t so each event can get a little better. I did several stages of the event last night and encountered the bug a couple of times. The icon occlusion and the bug were annoying but not greatly so. Still, I’m hopeful anet will watch out for things like this in future indicator devices.

Auric Basin Loot "Exploit" [merged]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Zoltar MacRoth.7146

Zoltar MacRoth.7146

Here’s how I multi-loot.

I have eight characters dedicated to AB. I do the meta events with one of them. I had been using a necromancer for durability but I recently switched over to daredevil. The other 7 characters are parked on a chest.

My daredevil does the meta events on whatever map he happened to log onto. Once meta is complete he either switches to another meta, if his map finished quickly, or starts the loot phase if his map finished slowly.

My daredevil is a norn and uses the Become the Snow Leopard skill for moving between chests. Shortbow 5 and dagger 2 are great skills for movement as well. He is traited to move especially fast when dodging (Unhindered combatant). He also has the quickness skill.

Once the loot phase begins, my daredevil moves quickly between grand chests. No other chests are opened. At each chest, he opens and then finds a squad member on a different map and selects ’Join in Auric Basin" on that squadmate. He repeats this until looting the chest on all possible maps and then moves to the next chest.

Once that is done, I do that process again on a second character which is a thief. I don’t want to train the HoT skill on the thief so I use two Superior Runes of Evasion, plus shortbow and dagger.

That will take the timer down to about the 5:00 minute mark. At that point I switch characters to the characters parked on a chest. These characters do not move between maps, they just loot one chest on all the maps and then I switch characters again.

My personal best is 86 chests looted.

After the loot phase comes the salvage phase. For each character, I log in and quickly select the guild hall before the character is moved out of the chest room.

Personally, I salvage just about everything because I use the mats. I sell exotic armor and forge exotic weapons.

I have five shared inventory slots. They are used by a copper fed salvage o matic, auric basin keys, tarrktun portal, mystic forge node, and personal bank node. I still have plenty of mystic stones but if I run out I will buy another shared inventory slot and put a silver-fed salvage o matic in it.

For each parked character I log in,, move to guild hall, open bags, salvage all with copper, salvage all with mystic, sell junk with tarrktun, forge runes and sigils, open bank and store the mats and forged superior runes and sigils.

My solution is not optimal. The best way to multi-loot is to dedicate about 13 to 15 characters to it. One character does the meta and the others are parked. After the meta is over, use only the parked characters and don’t run at all between chests. People have reported looting over a hundred chests with this method. 14 characters times 7 maps is 98, so I believe it.

I’m really impressed with your effort and ingenuity …but tbh it sounds kind of like a job.

This Game Is Too Easy

Everyone plays some portion of the game, and they tend to get good at that portion. Sometimes a player will extrapolate their feelings about their portion to encompass the entire game, which is a meaningless generalisation. What you’re saying is, the part of the game that I play with the gear I like to play it with is too easy for me. The obvious thing would be to vary what you play and/or the gear you play with, as people have suggested. Or you could ask the developers to modify the ‘entire game’ to suit your particular niche. Whichever seems more rational to you.

A symbol that lets us know those few places gliders will not deploy (certain caverns, etc.)

There’s already an icon in your boons bar that indicates this, so I’m guessing you mean something more, and I would agree. The glider icon is small and easily overlooked. It would be good to have some indication on the toon, like you get with some conditions, but I’m not sure what would work. Maybe some kind of faint ball & chain symbol above your toon’s head?

I think it’s the opposite. They defeated Primordius long ago and regained their organic forms. Since then they’ve been breeding explosively and now there’s so many of them the stomping of their little dwarf feet is causing the tremors. Overpopulation is forcing them to return to the surface for more space and resources. The next expansion will be about a dwarf invasion of Tyria.

Even though I know you are kidding, having thousands of Kilroy Stonekin offspring charge up through the depths would be a photobomb moment

Well, half kidding, in that as much as I’d enjoy this kind of twist I don’t think for a moment that it’s actually what’s happening. I was just imagining a break from the trope of dragon killing we’ve had so far. And the trope of dwarves being good.

Zoltar MacRoth.7146

On the topic of the icons, not arguing for or against them, but as a person who doesn’t mind useful screen clutter, I’d be happy for the option to have the icons bigger, translucent and floating around my toon so I wouldn’t have to keep taking my eyes off the action to read the status bar. Maybe they could vary in size depending how many stacks you have and vary in distance from your toon’s head according to duration. For someone short-sighted that would be easier to follow than reading tiny numbers on a little bar of icons.

Still, having Torment and Confusion as separate conditions does allow for more flexible strategy. If you get hit with one and manage to avoid/cure the other, you can at least choose to move or fight, whichever is least costly. If they’re lumped together you don’t get that option I would think. But I stick to pve. It may be very different in pvp for all i know.

The conditions I would see go would be Torment, especially now with the change to Confusion, and any other Conditions that overlap like Cripple, and Chill.

Boons I would like see removed would be Retaliation, and possibly protection since now a lot of classes have built in damage mitigation that doesn’t tie to a boon.

Or they could separate the Status effects, Boons and Conditions into their own spot on the Ui stacked to help with Screen clutter.

I’m not up on the latest changes to these but I am curious – what change to confusion makes torment obsolete? They would seem to be quite different – torment affecting movement, confusion affecting skill use. Same with chill and cripple – they both affect movement speed (to different degrees) but chill has other effects. Which are you suggesting to be removed, or both?

1. Being able to mail to multiple people at once. I understand this might have not been implemented because of some fear of spamming but it also makes it difficult to contact multiple friends to organise something. Maybe it could be allowed for guildmates only, as a compromise.

2. Allow me to set a list of my favorite waypoints and click in that list to get there quicker. It would help immensely with some daily tasks where I pop over to the same places each day. All the zooming in and out and panning in the map isn’t hard but it consumes time that’s already limited and doesn’t really add to the enjoyment of the game.

3. Allow batching/queuing of items in the crafting stations. I often have large numbers of various things that need refining and I have to wait for each to finish before starting another. It’s not possible to do much else while this goes on and while it’s fun to discover new recipes and craft various bits and pieces to produce something exciting, the repeating refinement of base materials is one of the tedious aspects of crafting.

4. Allow us to put notes on our maps.

1. Please, display icons for banners and food on the mini map, just as you do for toys.

2. In action cam, skills that require a target should not require the player to be looking directly at the target if there’s a target lock. Otherwise, what’s the point of the target lock? And even sillier, there are some skills that require you to have both a target lock AND be looking at the target. Can this be consistent? Most skills work on the target lock. That should be the standard. If there’s no target lock, then accept that target the player is looking at.

3. Fix summoned minions so they actually fight bosses. There’s some inconsistency here. My fire elemental (from the powder) fought the jades, but the griffon summoned with the ogre whistle didn’t. They also don’t like fighting some world bosses. Not sure what the pattern is.

4. Increase the vertical angle we can look down; especially in BF with the #1 aerial skill, it’s difficult to hit an enemy below you. We need to be able to look down more.

Zoltar MacRoth.7146

Sanctum Scramble stands between me and Glint’s Bastion. I guess my Revenant will never get this shield. I find this adventure more annoying than words can describe. Not that I like GW2 adventures in general, but this one takes the cake.

You have to wonder who thought that making Adventures, which rely on how well your computer communicates with Anet’s servers, was a good idea since GW2 is very popular globally. Which wouldn’t be so bad except that then some genius gated Mastery Points, Profession collections, and Legendary collections behind them. Basically giving a big middle finger to any player who lives far enough away or happens to have a bad traceroute. Nevermind the players who don’t want to play this type of content or find it difficult for many reasons.

I guess it’s a good thing that there are more mastery points available than you actually need then.

This is a weird reply, Vayne. For a start, you’re arguing against a claim Neurion didn’t even make. He only mentioned MPs in passing and didn’t claim there weren’t enough. He just questioned gating them behind this content. He also points out the lag issues that you yourself have complained about. In fact, he’s reiterating all the points you’ve made yourself in other posts. So it’s weird to see you arguing here. O_o
I suspect you’re starting to get triggered by any mention of mastery points and responded automatically on this one. Let’s chalk it up to fatigue and move on.

It’s not a strange response. This is a line from the post I replied to.

" Which wouldn’t be so bad except that then some genius gated Mastery Points, Profession collections, and Legendary collections behind them. "

It’s in response to that line, which includes mastery points. Profession collections were changed so that you only need bronze. Not sure about legendary collections, but I’m pretty sure you only need bronze on them. And bronze is attainable.

But mastery points are a big focus for a lot of people. Far more people need mastery points than make legendaries and half the people I know are only half aware of collections at all and don’t care about them.

Most people care about mastery points. I’m not sure why you think my response is odd.

It was a little odd to me that you focused on that one line and made it about the number of points available whereas the post, in its full context (below), seems to be mostly a criticism of gating points behind laggy content, which is a point I’m sure I’ve seen you make yourself. You’re right there’s other points but it just seemed like an oranges response to a discussion on apples. Anyway, not trying to start anything. Just seemed odd, ’sall.

Most of my issues were solved when changes were made in April though. Pretty sure you havent’ seen me make those points recently. With the changes I’ve been able to get every point I need personally at least.

The content isn’t nearly as laggy as it was either. Changes have been made on that front.

When I used to do fallen masks, I’d jump on a mushroom and I’d sit there spinning for a second before It finally propelled me up. That doesn’t happen anymore.

Having to get silver was a major issue for me. They’ve reduced most collections to bronze which I’ve not had trouble getting.

But bringing mastery points into it, and saying that you can’t get the masteries you need because of adventures…well it might affect a small percentage of players, but it would be a pretty small percentage.

Edit: And yes, I still don’t believe gating anything behind adventures was a good idea. I’ve been pretty open about that.

I see. Fair enough.

Sanctum Scramble stands between me and Glint’s Bastion. I guess my Revenant will never get this shield. I find this adventure more annoying than words can describe. Not that I like GW2 adventures in general, but this one takes the cake.

[Suggestions] Quality of Life Changes

Some further ideas that appealed to me:

1. Display the stat type in the item tooltip. Some items are generic and clear (e.g. Dire Pants of the etc..) but others are more flavoured (e.g. Beigarth’s …). There’s a large, and growing, number of stat types in the game and while some (power/prec/fer) are easily recognisable, it can be hard to remember them all, especially when transmutation gets involved. All I’m asking for is a little bit of text somewhere in the tooltip that says: berserkers or rampagers or whatever.

2. Extending the above, it would be helpful to see more info in the hero panel (Equipment) without having to mouse over each piece. I don’t know if armour pieces already show their rarity with their border colour (will check when i get home) but if not, it would let us tell at a glance which pieces are exotic or what. And with a three letter abbreviation next to each piece indicating its stats, e.g. “BER” for berserker, “RAM” for rampager, etc.

3. Have indicator devices in future events display their icons relative to the player rather than stationary in the world.

4. Provide some in-game indication of newly added achievements – e.g. a new section in the achievements navigation panel called ‘New achievements’ or maybe an email from the Tyrian Achievers Society or some kind of popup (like the one for daily tasks) where we can get a brief synopsis of the new achievements and have the option to mark them for watching.

5. Fewer dialogs – when picking up the sensors in the recent event, we’re asked to confirm that we want to pick them up. The prompt would be fine the first time, to provide some info to the player if need be, but after that it’s annoying. Where a repair station’s only possible action is repair, it shouldn’t need a dialogue before or after. Ideally, it would work like the speed mushrooms in HoT – just run through it to make use of its service, but if that’s too much at least just let us click ‘Interact’ with it and have it done without dialogs.

6. Don’t allow merchants to be spawned within close distance of a bloodstone in the jade event, or prioritise the bloodstone’s interact link above the merchant’s.

7. Add a merchant to BF that provides the usual salvage kits and harvesting tools. It’s perfectly in-lore for such merchants to supply the pact forces and it would allow players to dedicate more time to the new map instead of having to go to another map to get more supplies.

8. In the hero panel tooltips for accessories, rings, amulet or backpack, give some indication what kind of upgrade is possible. I was trying to put a crest into a back item and it was red – it turned out that it only accepted medallions. With the amount of dialogs in other parts of the game, this is one that would actually help to have it, stating: “This item only accepts medallions or below.”

9. Speed up the acceptance of markers on guild treks. You can stand on one for minutes, interacting with it and having no effect. They seem to take variously long intervals to recognise they’ve been clicked.

10. Allow bank tabs to be named, which may or may not have been asked here already.

This is an enjoyable event so far and different from the last few but.. why are the sensor icons stationary? It breaks the flow of the event, having to stop and start as you’re running around.

NO MORE MINI-GAMES

“Dear A-net,

I don’t like new content; don’t give new content to me or anyone else."

That is what this sounds like to me.

It’s too bad you didn’t actually read it then, since it’s talking about not using minigames as gates, not about getting rid of them.

He started that way, but the end of his post sounds kind of like he does want future content to be free of jps and other platforming things. I don’t know his intention for sure, but if he’s just talking about gating, I would agree.

Get rid of Karma containers

Since Karma is an account-wide currency why do we still have to open the containers to receive the karma? That’s pointless clicking. Just have the karma be attained on acquire.

Clicking the item and seeing it being acquired provides a greater sense of reward to a player than it automatically going into their wallet.

That’s arguably subjective. And there’s a precedent in other currencies that go straight to the wallet (geodes i think?). I would personally be satisfied with just seeing the karma listed briefly on the right side like loot, or pop up briefly as text in the middle of the screen the way XP does. If there were an option to have karma be consumed automatically, I for one would tick it.
