I’d like to see the interact action removed on those statues, especially if they’re interactable objects that don’t do anything.

Instead, it would be neat if you could interact with the statues by using emotes; e.g. /kneel. And even cooler if different emotes had different results; e.g. /kneel gives a boon, /threaten turns you into a moa.

^ Agree that it should be disabled by default, but thank you OP for highlighting that this option exists. Players that aren’t yet aware of it for whatever reason may benefit from this.

I’m commenting on this because, ironically, this was something I was thinking about just the other day. Not so much whether it defaults to on or off but whether the toggle could be more granular; e.g. off | short range | med range | long range.

The range in this case is how far away from an object you have to be to see its label. Allowing us to choose would help with customising performance and visibility to suit our needs.

If you remove the remaining 12 MP you can get from raids, that leaves 19 MP available. If you remove the 15 MP that you get from obtaining gold in the adventures, that’s now 4 MP available.

And even I can get silver in adventures (and my loathing for — and lack of skill in — adventures is well documented in these forums).

I think its great that you can get Silver in Adventures, but my question is why you would do an activity that you loath in a game that is supposed to be for entertainment?

Many people say that “there are plenty of MP”. Not for me. I play a game ONLY for entertainment, not to work. I have a job and chores around the house for working. Apparently Anet believes that you should be required to do what THEY want you to do while being entertained or be locked out of PvE character progression.

There are players that loathe grinding. Should legendary weapons be made to not be a grind since the game is for entertainment?

Oh no… you used the dreaded g word. Now this thread is going to go into a death spiral of debate over whether the game is grindy.. xo

It’s an insult to the asura who made it. In fact, I don’t believe Levvi made it at all. She’s better than that. This is some cheap knock-off that the Consortium threw together to cash in on her name. No wonder the consortium tracker who took it got himself killed using it.

If you do nothing else, can we have gathering tools auto-equip themselves if you have one in your inventory of the same quality?

For example, I’m mining a platinum node when my orichalcum pick runs out. It tells me I have no gathering tool equipped. How cool would it be if it just equipped one of the other orichalcum picks I carry on me and carried on mining. It would be cool. Ice-cold even.

EDIT: More ideas: it would be luvely if we could position the nodes in our home instance. I’ve got nine now and they’re scattered everywhere. I’d love to gather them all in one place, maybe in a plaza, and see them all together.
Also, it would be great to have my nodes appear in the guild hall, only for me. It would give me more reason to visit the guild hall.

Personally, I think those have more to do with tampering with the Bloodstone(s).

Personally, I hope that the defeat of the elder dragons plays a larger part of this than the bloodstone. Causing a greater problem by trying to do good offers an intriguing and nuanced scenario. Things going awry because of tampering with a magic rock has a lot of potential to be cliche. Either way could be played well or poorly, of course.

New playable race - good or bad idea?

Zoltar MacRoth.7146

While I don’t like the Largos personally, I think if you were bringing them in you could easily get around the wings issue by revealing that wings are limited to a sub-section of the species, maybe as a sign of rank or a particular family group or maybe some weird mutation. Common largos, such as the player would be, would be born wing-free.
Likewise, their capital city could be an underwater dome which is filled with air, allowing the usual running around. It could work.

I hope we get to look inside the Tengu zones, though I’m not fussed about playing them either. I already find it hard to play a distinctly non-human character like a charr. But if we were to play them, their story could easily be incorporated into lore in the same way Opposing Force did with Half Life. The Tengu would be revealed to be there all along, participating in everything the other races go through, but in secret. We’d get to revisit the same scenes, such as the battle for Claw Island, but from a new perspective. Maybe it would be revealed that the Tengu actually took out a large part of the risen forces themselves, at sea, and that the force faced at Claw Island, as bad as it was, was actually much smaller than it would have been if not for the Tengu.
Maybe.. just maybe… it could be revealed that the reason Zhaitan was beaten so easily was that the Tengu had already softened him up before DE got there! Wouldn’t that be a kicker?

Anyway, I’m not for playing any more races, at least not any that we currently know of in Tyria. This was just a thought exercise.

Raid Spectator Mode [Suggestion]

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Zoltar MacRoth.7146

Zoltar MacRoth.7146

I like the idea, but I’ve heard it before for other games and the main problem that always comes up is that it will make raids easier if you have a dedicated raid leader that is just spectating and doesn’t have to worry about dodging attacks himself/herself. To compensate you would have to make the spectators lag behind, and that in turn means much more coding effort and load on the servers (I guess).

Also there are plenty of raid videos on YouTube that do more or less the same thing.

Spectating and watching a video isn’t anything close to the same experience. A lot of people won’t watch vids; more would spectate.

I hadn’t thought about the possibility of a raid leader using VoIP + spectate. I’m not sure if that’s necessarily a bad thing. People still have to learn and execute the mechanics.

^ This puts it well. I’d appreciate the chance to see others raiding live, especially being able to fly around and observe the fight from different angles which a video doesn’t provide. And being able to hear their commentary would another dimension – the videos I’ve been able to find so far haven’t provided much commentary on what’s actually happening or why. I find the idea of the leader staying out of the fight actually appealing. It makes military sense, in a way making the raid more realistic.

I’m not quite sure what you’re suggesting and others are probably having the same problem. Maybe give a little more explanation?

As I understand it, the suggestion is to allow skill change in combat as long as the skill is off cooldown. If it’s on cooldown, you can change it but the cooldown remains for the full length of time (change takes effect once cooldown ends).

I’m still confused. Skills are the things to the left of your health meter, which are related to your profession and weapon. The things to the right of the health meter are the utilities (unless my terminology is way off) which you can select individually, once you’ve unlocked them.

The way you and the OP are talking about skills, it sounds like you’re describing the utilities on the right side of the health meter, rather than the skills on the left. Is that the case?

Zoltar MacRoth.7146

The solution can’t be just a toggle to disable the bar surely. Just because you can’t see the lack of masteries and waste of Xp doesn’t mean they’re not happening. Is that what people would really want? Out of sight, out of mind?

That’s also not what I suggested. For me a toggle can go both ways, so also toggle it back on depending on what you want to gain xp for.

I agree that is the definition of a toggle. There currently aren’t any things to gain XP for except Masteries. I’m clearly missing the point and I don’t doubt you know what you want and I’m pretty sure I could get behind it. I just don’t know what it is.
Toggle so it shows what Mastery track you are working on?

Ahh I see your confusion.

Here’s the thing. Before masteries when you were level 80 you would still gain xp and each time you would complete a level you wouldn’t gain a new level of course but you would gain spirit shards.

Then masteries came in and instead of gaining spirit shards you gain xp for masteries instead. The trick is this. You won’t get your normal xp bar back until you’ve completed ALL of the masteries and if you have no interest in getting all the masteries, your xp bar is basically blocked from gaining any xp towards these spirit shards.

What people are asking for is a way to go back to gaining xp for spirit shards without having to complete all the masteries they don’t care to get. So my idea is to let people toggle not only between masteries but also select a non-mastery option if that makes sense.

Actually, before Masteries, one did not gain Spirit Shards for ‘dinging’ a level after 80. The period between the change to Traits and the release of HoT, a player gained nothing whatsoever for leveling past L80. What we did get several months prior to the release of HoT and pre-Trait change was a Skill Point. Skill Points, as you know, were either used for Skill/Trait acquisition or spent for Mystic Forge materials (as Spirit Shards are now). Also, during the period between the Trait change and the release of HoT, we could acquire Spirit Shards through Champion Bags/Boxes, loot drops, exchanging Tomes of Knowledge, Dailies, etc. We have never before received a Spirit Shard for leveling.

Although you may be historically correct, it doesn’t really make a difference. Currently there is an issue where people get stuck on their xp bar if they don’t complete the masteries. Whatever reward you got when for dinging on the normal xp bar is rather beside the point…the point is of course that you don’t get this reward anymore, whichever it is, if you don’t complete the masteries. That’s the focus point here I think. I just quoted what I saw in other threads but it wasn’t the focus of the point.

Yes, the current system is that after capping all Masteries you WILL get Spirit Shards for leveling. So the question is why people have to wait until Masteries are capped. If I don’t intend to pursue any further Mastery Points because I don’t prefer to play the content they are in, why am I banned from ever again receiving anything from my XP gains?

That’s the 6,000,000 karma question. Along with: when anet were sitting around discussing this, did no one ask that question?

I still yearn for an option to automatically deposit all/compact when something enters my inventory. Some will argue that we need to see what we receive – and we do, along the right hand side. I’d just like the option (put it in the Options screen itself if you want to make it harder to accidentally select) to automate a frequent manual task.

Also, I think it would be good to hear from anet again in the thread, to know they’re still reading it. A simple “keep ’em coming!” would do. The last encouragement from gaile really kicked off a lot of creativity in this thread.

Lag killing 'adventures'

I’m from Brisbane, and yeah, my average ping hovers around 220. (My ISP is Telstra Cable.) It makes some adventures an absolute nightmare to run, thanks to things like rubberbanding after movement skills, landing on bouncing mushrooms and the mushrooms failing to fire, or just teensy bits of skill lag that, while individually minor, add up to be almost 5 – 10 seconds of lost time across the entire adventure.

After many, many hours of grueling frustration, I did eventually get Gold on all the adventures (so it CAN be done, but unless you’re a completionist nut like me I wouldn’t say it was worth the stress), but I would still urge ANet to add in some more time leeway to make it fairer for those players who are operating under severe latency.

As a fellow completionist from Brisbane (hi!) I’m gladdened to hear that you got gold eventually. It gives me hope. Though, part of that hope is also that anet gives us a little more leeway. I’m also experiencing the rubber-banding and skill delays.

Posted by: Zoltar MacRoth.7146

Zoltar MacRoth.7146

Look at guides. Most of them are easy once you have studied the guides. Only a few are near impossible for most people.

Guides are utterly useless.

Take Fallen Masks. You look at any sort of guide, or watch any video, and nothing listed in the guide actually happens. You see them quickly zipping from a mask to the nearest one, when you play fallen masks, they appear so far from each other so often that the average run from mask to masks is several times longer than the ‘guide’.

Scrap rifle? You see guides, and the enemies gather neatly and most get killed with just one shot, and those that do not die instantly die shortly after because of conditions. You move exactly the same with freaking Viper gear, sigils of Malice and even freaking damage boosters, and they not only take 3-4 times longer to kill, the conditions last NOTHING on them, and instead gathering like in those ‘guides’, they scatter like swatted flies, move away and stand still without chasing you at all.

Shooting gallery? In guides they cleanly and quickly shoot all targets that appear always in range, and their bullets pierce obstacles like grass, boxes and beams. When you do it, the gun takes AGES longer to fire, the random targets always appear the furthest possible from each other, and every flimsy object on sight stops the bullets.

Several adventures are broken, they do not check for impossible situations, they do not override the AI of the enemies to make sure they behave how they are supposed to behave, they do not behave the same for the same players, and way too many can be trolled by doing things like getting defeated at some point where players need to use something, so they start reviving instead using what they needed to do.

It’s as if they were designed to fake difficulty by purposely making them impossible randomly. So only a small random number of players can actually make them.

They must be fixed, or they will only be a source of constant frustration. And we don’t need any more of that.

And yet you can get all your masteries trained without getting any mastery points at all from the hardest adventures. Just don’t to those and do the ones that are easier.

I was hoping to see a response to the specific points this poster raised because they’re interesting points. I don’t know about the guides he mentions but I have tried to follow guides on Sanctum Sprint and they make use of a trick which now appears to have been nerfed by anet. Maybe the guides he’s seen likewise were filmed before some changes were made to adventures.

I was one of those prior to this patch who yeared for xp over cap to be useful again. Now it is …..sort of. -_-

Lately, anet have been reminding me of microsoft. Whenever microsoft put out something, especially if it’s to fix a problem, the solution gets part of the way there and then… you have to wonder what they were thinking. It’s like they can’t fix something without breaking something else.

I don’t agree with this design of locking the xp rewards behind completing all masteries, and especially behind raid masteries. And I say that as a person who’s completed all masteries and doesn’t care about spirit shards. I don’t have a horse in the race. But I do have an interest in good design, and this is not it. It makes post-cap xp useful again only in a very specific circumstances. As a solution, it’s a kludge and it suggests things about anet’s experience of their own game or their motivation to find the best solution for this that aren’t altogether complimentary.

EDIT: fixing forum censoring issues. sigh.

I hope we get more vertical maps. I am not a fan of the flat maps.

Just kidding, I like them both. But more verticality please. Especially a vertical city. That would be great.

Excess HoT mastery points for LS3

@OP

Imagine somebody wants to finish all the masteries, but doesn’t like adventures. If there are exactly enough mastery points for all masteries that player would be forced to do all the content, including that which they didn’t like.

Now imagine there’s a surplus of mastery points. A player can finish all the masteries by playing all or mostly content they want to play.

We keep saying on this forum that options are a good thing. Excess mastery points are options.

Hidden Achievements. Why?

As a completionist at heart, I’m not keen on hidden achievements. I’m one of those “checklist” people.

“Don’t cross the streams” was fine as a hidden achievement because you’re likely to stumble across it, but there will be others that you may never find, even with years of playing. But as someone pointed out, there’s the wiki and dulfy and maybe even gw2efficiency to list out all achievements, so I have a checklist to satisfy my completionist tendencies.

My only real complaint about hidden achievements is that if they’re hidden in the game, I can’t put them on my watchlist where I like to keep goals I’m aiming for. But that’s a minor thing and the fact that the watchlist only displays four or five items is a far bigger irritation.
