and the trip towards P2W is one step closer…

Want to do trib mode… sorry you will need to buy this “convenience” item or spend 99% of your time grinding coins and only 1% of your time actually getting to play.

Really now, the people who will play tribulation mode will likely aim for the TM specific skins or achievements… so they are unlikely to want to use baubles for anything but continue coins. Which they will also be earning more than normal mode players.

Also, continue coins are not required at all, since you can always just restart the level… and once muscle memory kicks in it won’t be such a big deal, if you absolutely hate the idea of farming for baubles. Even the regular continue coins are convenience items to an extent, since if you want to you don’t have to use them. Just a choice between checkpoint or start of the level.

Also, P2W hardly applies when it is about personal achievements… if I go through TM that does not impact you or anyone else in any way whatsoever (skins are account bound as far as we know). So if someone wants to pay for a “cheat” then let them, it is not like it will devalue your own achievements… besides the player using this will still need the skill to actually progress inside the box.

It is not a shortcut but an accelerator.

an accelerator in time limited temporary content is P2W imo.

I will not have enough time to both farm and get the achievements unless I pay for an item. If I want to win I have to pay. That is P2W.

Future of gauntlet tickets?

Moreover, they took a “rare loot” spot in the loot tables.

This is apparently a common misconception. Just like kite fortunes and support tokens, these items are added in a separate loot table. They do not affect your chance at rare quality equipment drops, otherwise you wouldn’t be getting nearly as many as you have been.

On topic: As others have said, since this is will be recurring content in the future the tickets will likely remain as they are, without merch value.

Do you have a source for that? The devs specifically said a couple months ago that the contents of loot boxes, bags, etc is not determined until you open the box/bag/etc. What you are saying is in direct contradiction with the devs previous response.

Of course it is equally as likely that the devs just don’t know how it works.

for the details. You will actually need 500 dragonite ore per weapon, not 200 like I thought. I must have mis-remembered. Of course that is assuming the chance is 100% per boss. Based on how much they like to make us grind this may not be the case.

Or, for all we know, each event could drop 10 ore.

Point is, WE DON’T KNOW what the droprate is.

And neither do you.

lets count up all the things in this game that drop things in stacks of 10:

Done.

Now lets make a list of all the things that drop things in stacks of <1 (i.e. random chance of 0-3)
1. Ectos
2. Every bag in the game
3. T6 mats from salvage items
4. Champ bag T6 loot

My speculation is an educated guess based on multiple other sources in the game. Yours is just pulling a number out of your kitten to say i’m wrong… the best we can hope for is a chance at 1-3. Most likely based on time gating, and RNG we will have a 0-2 or 0-3 chance similar to other rare drop mats that have similar cost requirements.

I’m actually a bit ‘worried’ about China. Just look at the trailer they had and the # of views – they only have 44K in a month. That’s a really, really low number.

But then again, I don’t even know if the Chinese use youtube as their main video site. They don’t even use twitter or google.

youtube is an illegal site in china. None of those views come from their chinese playerbase.

Advice to Senior Management – While AnetU and basecamp (training) is helpful, it is comparable to placing band-aids on a missing finger.

If you want us to design amazing material it will take a significant amount of time to execute without a clear breakdown of the project tasks. We either need additional time or people to complete tasks within designated times.

Get an integrated bug/portfolio project management software suite: Basecamp, Zoho projects, 5pm, or Huddle, or Clarizen.

Aside from the Art, Sound, and Customer Service departments most are departments very busy with high stress.
QA department has high turnovers and contractors which has led to documentation getting lost in the cracks.
HR is in desperate need for additional recruiting.
Marketing needs a way larger budget. Most of my friends or family never heard of a ArenaNet nor Guild Wars before I worked there.
Sound department is tiny. Practically a closet.
Stop outsourcing. It is a pain to fix.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
——————————————————————————————
This explains a lot! You should read all of them. Its an interesting read. For example:

Upper management should be more considerate with how they spend their money. Letting workers go because of budget reasons, then turning around and purchasing 10 flat screen tvs that barely anyone uses or rewarding workers who can barely pay their monthly bills with a $500 laser tag gun that they can only play with at work is a bit of a slap to the face. The environment is already fun and friendly. You don’t need to cut corners in worker salaries to buy toys for people who are already having a good time doing what they’re doing.

WTH?

This review pretty much hits the nail on the head with the 2 week content updates.

I just hope they start listening to their employees instead of firing them.

Yes…it could only mean those 2 things. There’s no other possibility.

I suppose it could mean the game is crashing hard and they are downsizing to keep profits up…

but that seemed a little extreme so I didn’t include it. I definitely don’t see SWTOR levels of failure here.

If you have another reason they would fire a large number of employees I am open to suggestions.

ZudetGambeous.9573

Well this means one of two things i guess…

1. The employees got fed up with being forced to release sub-par bug ridden content and demanded a higher standard and were fired for it. (Bad)

or

2. The higher ups finally have realized the sub par bug ridden content every 2 week model isn’t working and they fired the people responsible for it and will switch to a more reasonable model (good)

We probably won’t see the results of these layoffs for another 2-3 months, but we will be able to tell if this was a good thing or a bad thing in a few months based on the quality of content coming out at that time.

as opposed to:

“SAB is back in GW2! Time to log in and play that wicked fun mini-game! Oh look, guess they changed some other content too. Might glance at that while I’m here. Maybe grind a few AP’s, but only after I play this wicked fun mini-game!”

Which version implies the game is going in a good direction?

I think this sums it up pretty good here. In my opinion the general players reaction should mirror the first response, but in actuality I think the vast majority of players would say the second.

ZudetGambeous.9573

Leave it to you to take a fun side-game and somehow paint it as yet another problem of GW2.

You people need to stop looking for flaws. If you don’t enjoy the game, stop playing. Nobody is holding a gun to your head forcing you to log. If you ask me, GW2 is a fine fine game albeit with a number of flaws and shortcomings, but your attitude is the real problem when it comes to enjoying the whole experience.

I think you missed the point of this thread.

I don’t think so. OP says there is a problem with the game because people are excited about a mini-game… I mean, how anticlimactic is that? This is just an incredibly negative approach to just about everything.

Instead of going “Oh, look, they’re bringing that really fun mini-game back, I’ll play again and check out what else is happening” the OP is taking the “Oh look, people are coming back for the mini-game and nothing else because the game blows in every aspect.”

Let’s be real here, there is maybe 2-3% of the people who will be coming back for the SAB who are going to be playing exclusively that without even touching the rest of the game. It’s just so negative to think otherwise, and a huge killjoy. I don’t understand why anyone with that sort of world view would bother playing games at all, it’s only a matter of time before they spoil it for themselves.

That’s only part of what I was trying to say. I wasn’t specifically even thinking of people returning only for SAB, but that is interesting. What i’m more getting at is that this update is bringing a lot more excitement then updates that actually effect the game world. I mean look at the Queen’s speech update. People were really excited to get some actual story, a big announcement, and some backstory… then the patch goes live and we get no announcement, 2 lines of story that turn the potentially interesting villain into a comical villain sue, and the only backstory came in a blog not the game itself. People were let down and the event was just a massive 2nd rate version of rifts.

I think the problem is that the higher quality content seems to come in the form of 8-bit graphics with no story… At least if the last SAB was anything to go by. Originally when the game was first starting the devs said that players didn’t want mini-games because they were always simplified, removed your skills and mechanics of the game and didn’t provide a compelling story like the rest of the game world. That is why bar brawl and the shooting gallery were originally scrapped. Now fast forward 1 year later and all players want is mini-games and distractions from the real game… why is that?

I contend that it is due to the fact that the skill progression (non-existent), the story progression (barely even registering on the existence scale), the fight mechanics (what happened to challenging mechanics in this game?), and the overall feel of the game has been declining, leading to players enjoying the mini-games over the actual game more and more.

That is something that I feel is a problem, and should be brought to light so hopefully something can be done about it. At the very least I would like the polish, commitment and ingenuity that seem to go into the mini-games to also go more into the actual world.

You Know There's a Problem When....

The most exciting and anticipated update is one that makes you completely forget about the actual game and places you in a mini game that removes all skills, all story, all items, and all other aspects of the actual game and people are thrilled about it….

Does no one else see this as a major indication that something is wrong? Why are players so thrilled and eager for the actual game to be left behind and forgotten in place of 8-bit graphics and jumping?

The fact that this is more fun than the millions and millions of dollars they’ve spent on the actual game is quite telling imo… I think it is time to try a new direction.

No, you will need to farm WvW, a World Boss, a JP, a dungeon, and the daily for the new mats. They will be awarded once daily for each of those activities. Since Anet hates alts with a burning passion it is safe to assume that will be per account not per character.

I chose some celestial trinkets prior to realizing how poor they perform compared to dedicated stat items like Zerk and Rabid. I admit thakittens my fault and was ready to just be mad at myself for wasting laurels and fractal relics but accept it.
However now they are changing the items and making it even worse, at least before this change if I wanted to do easy content and have MF these Celestial items would be worth swapping to… now there is no reason.
I don’t care if you don’t buff Celestial just give us the option to change it like all the other MF gear, or if someone wants to keep their Celestial they can choose that.

This can be a good thing to have something more usefull in return.
But, I repeat that I hope Charged Crystal won’t be usefull to reach the lvl 500 crafting.
I’ve use 45 charged Crystal to made my celestial gear and weapon.
If now I see that it was better let them in my bank to lvl crafting easer this won’t be fair!!!

They will almost certainly be used. They are the first of many time gated materials. I doubt they added a whole new mat just to make a now obsolete armor set.

-Will the level of the fine/masterwork item effect the chance to get luck essences?
-Will the salvage kit level effect the chance to get luck essences?
-Will there be a cap on MF from these essences?
-Will the essences be tradable or will they be bound to you?

Hey all, no worries, we got you covered.

Weapons, armor and trinkets with magic find will become account bound, lose their current stats and will gain the ability to be double-clicked to select one of several stat options depending on the item.

For example, if you have an Explorer’s Pearl Staff, you can now double-click it to change it to any other crafting stat.

We will have a blog post about it with more extensive information as well, keep an eye on the website.

that’s potentially disappointing… We were originally told we would be given compensation such that our account bound MF stat would be similar to what it currently is. I have no need for more gear. All my characters have all the sets of combat gear they need. My MF set was just that, a MF set… will there still be an option to convert it to the new account bound stat?

edit: hopefully the blog sheds more light on that.

I actually really enjoyed SAB the first time around…. but i’m not super thrilled to see it come back. I bought this game for the massive world, the beautiful graphics, the supposedly eic story telling and the living world.

SAB has none of those things. It has 8-bit graphics, pulls 99% of the player base out of the world, the story is not epic or grand, there are no dragons or monsters, and it doesn’t push the world forward in any way. It doesn’t progress my character, it doesn’t let me even use my own skill bar.

This game has slowly been dying to me since they announced they wouldn’t be doing expansions. The quality of the updates is grindy and gimmicky at best and just plain sub-par and buggy at worst. It is becoming clear to me that they are aiming this game much more towards 10-15yr old rich kids who love gambling and less towards everyone else.

They have said that the gear MF stat is going away some time ago and that they’ve got a plan (but haven’t said exactly what plan) to compensate those who currently have MF gear.

If they say ahead of time that MF gear wearers will all get “X” bonus or whatever what is stopping NON-MF users from buying up all of the MF gear just to get extra rewards?

If they go ahead with their plan and we find out in detail how MF gets changed the day of, then the regular users of MF get their boost/compensation and the gear left in the TP is changed accordingly.

We know the gear is changing. personally, I think that’s all we need to know right now.

That is vastly simplifying it.

What about people who have listed those MF items? are they screwed? will their items be the same value afterwords? will existing MF gear be convertible? Will the MF runes and sigils be changed to something else or converted into account MF? Will existing gear be converted into skins, will it be needed to be salvaged, will it be converted into another gear set? Will multiple sets of MF gear provide multiple bonuses and compensation or are we limited to one bonus per account?

The only way we have enough information right now is if you put your fingers in your ears and yell LALALALLALA and hope for the best…

I have seen no evidence to suggest that ascended weapons won’t have sigils. Can you link where you are getting this information?

I mean it is also possible that the new ascended weapons will all have level 1 stats and do damage to you instead of the enemy when you use them… but there is no valid reason to believe the devs would do this…

Just using Ascended gear as a base for what Ascended weapons will be. Ascended gear doesn’t use Sigils. It uses Infusions. So I (we) would just assume that Ascended weapons would follow the same path as their armor counterpart, since they are from the same set.

Otherwise they wouldn’t be Ascended weapons if they didn’t share the same characteristics of Ascended gear. They would be a different tier like Destiny or UberPwn weapons instead of Ascended.

But that’s simply not the case. Nothing was “replaced” at all in ascended jewelery. The slot was moved directly into the stats and then an infusion slot was added in addition. Jewelery never had sigils or runes. Nothing was removed from those slots, only things were added. I don’t see any reason the weapons won’t be the same.

If it is a broken mechanic then why is it still sticking around? Instead of being on gear it is now just applied to the entire account?

It was broken because it was on gear. The stat itself wasn’t the problem.

It basically made you choose between good loot or good stats. You were required to screw your teammates over if you wanted good loot. That will no longer be the case.

To answer the OP’s question the devs stated in the july blog that people with current MF gear will be compensated for the gear they already have.

Looks like blue’s and green’s might not just be vendor trash anymore.

I wonder if higher level items give more essences or have a higher chance of giving them.

So about the legendary rework... [SPOILERS]

I think my main concern with this right now is that “legendaries” were supposed to always be a fancy skin that had the same power of the current top tier weapon. Not stronger or weaker, but equal to the top tier.

Now it seems they are going back on that philosophy.

Either “legendaries” are going to be weaker or they are going to be stronger. Look at it this way. If they remove the sigil slot and replace it with an infusion slot, they are going to be weaker. But if they keep the sigil slot and add an infusion slot, they become stronger than the current top tier. Meaning they are going against their whole cosmetic philosophy on what “legendaries” are supposed to be either way.

And then there is this whole “other functions and stuff”. What other functions? Is it something that will give an advantage power wise? Give you a buff or a fancy debuff to your target? Or is it just some flashy special effect? Again, one goes against the whole cosmetic thing while the other is for it. But to call an effect a function is wrong. So what could this function be, that won’t give someone an advantage over anyone else?

I don’t know. Maybe it’s just me, but Anet seems to be going backwards on a lot of their philosophies about this game. This whole “legendary” deal is just one of them.

You are correct, they were always supposed to be the same power as the best tiered weapon.

That’s why they are being matched with ascended weapons, something we have known since November.

And Anet has said all along that they intended ascended to be the top tier but they just couldn’t get it out in time.

If they came out a year from now and introduced a new tier, then sure, I’ll get on the boat with you. But as it is right now Anet is sticking to their word and I don’t see much of a problem with it.

And I get that they are being escalated to Ascended status, stat wise. That is completely understandable cause that is what we expected them to do.

The issue is, what are they going to do about the Sigil slot that is already on the weapon to begin with? Are they removing it, or adding an infusion slot with it? If they add an infusion slot with a sigil slot, it will end up being more powerful than current Ascended weapons, making “legendaries” top tier. Which goes against the original philosophy of what “legendaries” are supposed to be. They are supposed to be equal to top tier, not stronger or weaker.

And we have no info about what these “special functions” are going to be, and for all we know, it might give an advantage over regular Ascended weapons, making “legendaries” stronger than the top tier. Which again, would go against their philosophy.

I guess we’ll just have for more information on this, instead of speculating the worst outcomes.

I have seen no evidence to suggest that ascended weapons won’t have sigils. Can you link where you are getting this information?
