There is another thread around here that calculates the cost for ascended weapons. I don’t have a link but it ended up something like
Mats: 58g
17 Champ Bags
20 Temples
15 Dungeon Runs
overall it really wasn’t a whole lot.
Wow people will really just bend over and take anything these days. It’s a sad world we live in.
This is just like the people over at SWTOR who claim their game isn’t P2W either even though you need to pay to access raid gear and you can buy gear better than you an get while leveling in the store as well as being able to buy raid gear in the store…
The fact is in order to win part of this game within reason, you now need to pay for it.
therefore you need to Pay 2 Win.
You keep assuming I am trying to cheat, I am not… here is a run down of all the costs I considered:
I stated:
2.6g + 20 skill points + 5g+ (1.6g/5g) + (32s / 80s) + (1.2g / 3.2g) + 20g + 5g+ (30s / 1.2g) + (24s / 1.2g) + (18s / 1.2g) + ( 60s / 3g) + 5g + 63k karmaThat still leaves:
500 piles of bloodstone dust – 17 champions
500 empyreal fragments – 25 dungeon runs.
500 Dragonite Ore – 17 temple runs
10 dark matter – 20gThats broken down into:
20 Pile of Crystaline Dust – 2.6g
360 Thermocatalytic Reagent – 5g
1 Augur Crystal – 20 skill points
160 Iron Ingot – 1.6/5g
80 Steel Ingot – 32s / 80s
160 Darksteel Ingot – 1.2g / 3.2g
400 Mithril Ingot – 5g
11 Globs of Ectoplasm – 5g
60 soft Wood Plank – 30s / 1.2g
60 seasoned Wood Plank – 24s / 1.2g
60 Hard Wood Plank – 18s / 1.2g
150 Elder Wood Plank – 60s / 3g
1 Exotic Inscription – 5g
30 Obsidian Shard – 63k karmaGoing with inflated prices that equals to 58.2g
ohh seems I did do a mistake in my orginal account I double counted 20g, so its even cheaper then I was saying. To craft an Ascended weapon you need 58.2g in mats and exotic weapons to break into dark matter
63k karma, 20 skill points, 17 champions, 17 temple runs and 25 dungeonsThat means the difference between
Vulcanus: 470g + 10 dungeons runs + 50 skill points.
and an Ascended Weapon
58.2g ,63k karma, 20 skill points, 17 champions, 17 temple runs and 25 dungeonsis On vulcanus side 416g+30 skill points
and on the Ascended weapon side
63k karma, 17 champions, 17 temple runs and 15 dungeonsfor your statement to be true that IE its much more grindy to get an ascended weapon then it is to craft vulcanous
416g + 30 skill points would be less grindy to get then
63k karma, 17 champions, 17 temple runs and 15 dungeons.
Personally I dont believe thats the case.
And for the 2nd time no one is trying to play with numbers and cheat.
Well I think this kills this thread pretty soundly. 58g for a weapon using inflated prices. In a week this will be down to ~40g. Hardly a grind, and not even laughably close to a legendary grind.
You aren’t seeing the bigger picture. They nerfed karma rewards across the game. They introduced expensive karma recipes for ascended crafting. They added in karma only mats for crafting.
They are starting to move towards karma being a useful needed mat again. They need to drain the current supply of karma from players using these recipes and one off purchases. Once that is done they will almost certainly start introducing more karma based rewards and further reducing karma gains throughout the game.
In a few months time karma may be an important reward from events.
Will we ever get an update on the status of condition damage in PvE?
It’s been over 8 months since we were told you are “working on it”
With the move towards harder content such as open world raid bosses like Teq, the current state of condition damage is a detriment to everyone in the game.
If this trend is going to continue then we need to hear something about condition damage changes.
Dire stats and scavengers runes are new interesting options… anyone taking either of those for PvE with this build now?
Dire seems more geared towards WvW, but the scavenger runes + Carrion gear instead of rabid may be interesting due to our already high vit. Has anyone run the numbers on this combo to see how it compares?
OHHHHH that is awesome! well that will make my run tonight a lot easier. I figured they must do something.
That will make this much less tedious.
Ascended weapons are laughably cheap. I made 20g leveling to 500 and then bought my ascended weapon for 60g. So a 40g cost overall… Hardly comparable to a legendary.
The ecto recipes are both time gated. Make those first. they have their own category that you can see once you reach crafting 450.

Ok i’ve had a chance to sleep and calm down after that disaster of an experience. Here is a more objective view of what I liked and didn’t like so far in W2:
1. Too long. In W1 each zone took 10-20 minutes on your first run through and then about 6 minutes on the subsequent runs. This made it enjoyable. If you were having a bad night you could quit and lose nothing. You had check points spaced approximately 1-2 minutes apart. Fast forward to W2 and that design was completely thrown out. I spent over 2 hours in 2-1 and eventually got angry at the geysers and gave up. 2-1 should be split into 2-1-1, 2-1-2, and 2-1-3. It is enough content for 3 full levels. If there was a way to save progress then it wouldn’t in an issue, but I can’t (and I imagine the vast majority of the playerbase also can’t) spend 3 hours in one sitting doing a single activity that has almost no rewards. Additionally the checkpoints seem to be spaced more like 5-6 minutes apart, which makes dying frustrating instead of a fun learning experience.
2. Enemies. In W1 enemies took at most 2 hits to kill and had dodgeable or avoidable mechanics. In W2 again this seems to be thrown out. Assassins are evading most of the time, they have a KD move they can spam, they move faster than you do, and they gang up on you. None of those are fun mechanics. Plus on top of their over the top KD, high damage and evasion they also take more hits to kill. This is something GW2 has always struggled with for some reason. Dangerous fast attacking enemies should have less health and armor then slower hitting tank like enemies. If they can’t take damage most of the time and are capable of doing massive fast attacks then they should take 1 hit to kill under most circumstances. The 3 hits wouldn’t even be so bad if you weren’t also trying to avoid multiple traps, and balancing on a cliff at the same time.
3. Pixel Perfection. Platform games in the past were hard because you had to have interesting solutions and quick jumping to succeed. in SAB you need to randomly guess how far off the end of the logs/stumps/rocks you can magically float in the air and still not die. This is not fun. The whip length should be extended and the perfection of the jumps greatly reduced. The fun is from the puzzles and design, not from hoping you get lucky with a combination of lag, guessing and magic to make the jumps. This is especially true when combined with point 1, falling means death which means all that positioning and luck wastes up to 10 minutes of your time getting back to try to get lucky again.

This pretty much sums up my 2 hours in 2-1:
Then I broke my mouse and that forced me to stop playing.

Well it is pretty obvious they designed this to sell as many infinite coins as possible.
I did all of World 1 only dying about twice on normal mode… after 3 hours and 50 deaths I gave up on infantile mode for W2-2.
Pro-tip: there is absolutely nothing fun at all about having an enemy that KD’s you for one second on a one second CD, while also trying to balance on a cliff and dodge traps, and then additionally giving that enemy evade/invuln for 90% of the time.
Pro-tip 2: there is absolutely nothing fun about having to randomly guess how far I can walk onto the water without 30 seconds of flopping around like a fish in order to maybe get a 1% chance of my whip/slingshot actually hitting a turtle.
Pro-tip 3: There is nothing fun about those geysers, teleports, rubberbanding, mid air KB’s, and the HORRID camera angles…
Pro-tip 4: making zones that are 5 hours long with the promise of running out of continue coins and then having to start from the beginning is enough to make me want to quit the game forever.

It still works and is still there. you didn’t lose anything.
So when they said 2 weeks did they assume either:
- You have infinite gold
- 24*14= 336 hours
As expected, complete trash.
2 weeks was earliest.
That of course includes either lot of gold or lot of grind.
In other words, it was a completely meaningless statement that tried to downplay it and they weren’t willing to give a realistic estimate mostly because I guess there not the ones that have to do it. I guess the joke’s on us.
So when they said 2 weeks did they assume either:

There are already people with ascended weapons…
P2w ftw ! But yes my remark about infinite gold is hyperbole.
P2W… sure… or like 80g…
but hey whatever.
In order for karma to be valuable you need to be able to you need to be able to spend it on something worthwhile. Karma is still fail. Have 5.5 million karma and nothing to buy.
that is about 200g-300g worth of karma. To say it is useless is just not true.
I’m sure you can find a use for 300g.
I sunk 5.5 million into jewelry boxes and did not get near 50g let alone 300.
not sure what to tell you. if you really started with 5.5mil karma that would buy you ~1200 boxes. redrinking the karma leaves you with about a 75% return on the karma…
rinse and repeat for an absurd number of boxes. I’d say on the order of ~7000 boxes.
you’d get about 100g just from selling the junk items.

Check to make sure you aren’t on tribulation mode. Apparently the devs thought it would be fun to randomly die in this mode.

you get essence of luck now.
They are trying to make karma more valuable. expect to see increase karma prices and decreased karma drops throughout the game.
Not sure why people are rushing to buy anything… everything is time gated. By the time you use those mats they will have crashed back down to normal price. But hey, a fool and his money are easily parted.
Why wouldn’t it be? People loved it when they added fused weapons to the gem store for $400.
$75 is practically a steal!
you speculated and lost, that is your problem not Anets.
And how did those baubles effect anything in the game besides this minigame?
Bubble baubles created from 250 baubles can be used to purchase several crafting materials for legendaries for example… which if memory servers might have been able to be sold on trading post. I have 0 interest in legendary weapons, or had back then, so I can’t recall what the exact setup and prices were.
They removed those as well. Can’t have people earning things not from the gemstore.
Obsidian Shards are no longer available from Moto.
If thats the case, then why the kitten did you make the chests/digs once per day??????
I just don’t get Anet logic anymore. Obi shards were the only thing of use outside of SAB that were rewards for doing SAB. Now the only thing in there is skins, which requires grinding, and we can’t even grind it how/when we want to, its stuck behind another kitten time-gate. Getting really tired of these time-gates and farming removal (gold ones I get, but SAB is only for skins, so why the kitten do you remove it?).
gem store is that way→
they needed to find a way to force you to buy the infinite continue coin, which people wouldn’t do if you could get continue coins on your own.
What in the world are people complaining about?
There is literally only like 20g worth of mats there… I could go out and collect all that stuff in a single day.
Am I looking at a different page then people here?
not fair to who? why does someone getting 10 extra laruels hurt you?
Hint: it doesn’t effect you in any way at all.
yea, so if everyone got 1000g from anet for free, except you then that’s completely fair, because it doesn’t hurt you. Flawless logic.
They should have given us a fair warning, not just flush all your progress down the drain like that.
your ignorance is hilarious… or you’re just trolling.
Either way not worth saying anymore. They are not the same.
You will always be rewarded in this game for doing things quickly and either right before or right after a patch. This is a consequence of no PTS or QA team.
I am pretty sure they will never make a legendary account bound. There is almost no incentive for them to make any changes to their current system of doing things until people stop spending money and stop logging on. For all their talk there is no such thing as a altruistic gaming company. Games are expensive to make, they need to recoup the cost of that and make a profit, and as such they will do that in the way that easiest for them from a design standpoint. Why else do you think we ever have rng in a game? It keeps people playing by adding inflated time sink without having to constantly be designing new “content”. So in the same vein as using rng they also implement things like bound to character, it is defensible since it makes sense that each character is a separate entity from one another and if one character acquires something not all characters automatically have obtained it. So it is clear I am not defending the possible reasons a company has for using these types of design elements but it really just boils down to it is what it is, companies will continue to use this type of thing until people vote with the only that really matters to any business and that is with their wallets.
Well the thing is.. I HIGHLY doubt someone buy gems to buy legendaries. that would be around 1000$. Also, not many people get the same legendary either
i just want a reply from Anet… if its in their plans or not
you seriously underestimate people…
someone spent $700 on a MINI a freaking MINI….

If you want this fixed you need to find a way that it negatively effects warriors. If you can’t do that then chances are it won’t ever be fixed.
I don’t believe this. What the dev said at PAX about the Charr issue was certainly a misstep, but to apply that mindset to every possible issue the games faces is likely an unfair assessment. Cosmetics != Class defining balance issues.
Though, at this point, Engi’s now face both issues with regard to legendary and ascended weapons.
lol how could you possibly not believe that? Warrior has received a major buff in almost every patch since launch. They do nearly 2x the dps as other classes in PvE. There is a reason so many people play them. They will never nerf them because most of their players play one and that would be bad for business.
Making engineers weaker indirectly is a win for them. Less warriors will be killed by engineers which means the majority of the player base will be happier, and when confronted with it they can say “oh woops it was an unintended consequence but due to technical issues we can’t fix it”

Want to have fun?
Gem store is that way —→>>>
I’ll wait til tomorrow and follow the video…
that’s the problem, they use cheap gimmicks and time gating instead of actually requiring skill…
Looks like you’ll need to kill about ~750 champs per weapon lol
Hope you like zerg training.
I dunno. I’ve opened 10 Champion Bags and I’ve already got just over half of the Bloodstone Dust, if these requirements are correct. They seem to be a guaranteed drop as well.
Another change that doesn’t seem documented is that salvaging Greens doesn’t initiate a popup (thanks for this, btw!)
interesting. Guess they made them easy to get… Odd since they said they replace karma drops and those were 1 every 10 bags or so.
I’m gunna say they missed a 0 and they will be nerfed shortly.
If the other mats are anything like this, I wouldn’t be too worried.
lol that’s hilarious… how many bags?
I suspect they will nerf it and screw anyone who doesn’t open in the next few hours…
not fair to who? why does someone getting 10 extra laruels hurt you?
Hint: it doesn’t effect you in any way at all.
If you could craft your precursor then you would have no need to waste 4-6 months making ascended weapons. This is not conducive to Anets game strategy.
Expect precursor crafting in 4-6 months.

combined with all the other karma nerfs and the large amount of karma needed for the new items, it looks like they may be trying to make karma worth more.
I’m sure they know how much karma everyone has. I suspect they are trying to drain players supply so they can make it more valuable.
I don’t know what people are complaining about… you get free achievement points and experience. You get free laurels if you finished early.
Pretty much everyone wins here.
The Transmutation Splitter is now available in the Consumable category for 300 gems each, 5 for 1350 gems, or 25 for 6000 gems.
Is my math off, or are they really charging $75 for a stack of 25 consumables?
Sounds about right. They are charging $400 for some of the weapon skins, so this is like a steal.
The reason they are changing it is because no one is dumb enough to actually make one when you can buy one of the dozens and dozens on the TP for 1/10 the price it takes to make it.
Daily and monthly rewards have changed. Resetting them puts everyone on equal footing and allows everyone to get the new rewards without penalty.
Daily and monthly rewards have changed. This puts everyone on equal footing and lets everyone get the new rewards.
probably reset due to the fact that daily and monthly now grant essence of luck and people who already finished it were screwed over.
This gives everyone the chance to finish it.

Worse than we both thought… 0-1 low chance…
“Drips of Liquid Karma from champion loot bags have been replaced with Piles of Bloodstone Dust.”
They forgot to buff warrior. They need to change all the other class buffs to nerfs and add in another warrior buff just cause.
Well if you want to do trib mode you will pretty much need the infinite continue coin.
Especially since they are nerfing the ability to farm dig spots and chests and making it account bound and once per day.
Pay 800 gems or add a +1000 to your level of suffering.
Update:
With the announcement of ascended weapons Anet has fallen to new lows in their attempted destruction of alts. With a 2 week minimum for each weapon we are talking a minimum of 40 weeks just to get weapons in every slot for your alts.
If you are an actual good player and keep every weapon for your class it will take you multiple YEARS just to get back to the same place you are right now.
I suspect the armor grind will be the final nail in the coffin for even the most hardcore alt lovers. I know I am reducing down from 2 characters to 1 after this update since it just isn’t feasible to get both characters to a point where I can use them at full power.
