So it’s safe to say ANet didn’t read this thread I guess?

They just used standard Anet balance procedures. Pretty much every patch since launch can be summed up as:

Buff warriors through the roof
Buff gaurds slightly
Nerf rangers and ele’s to dust
Nerf thieves
Minor changes to necro, engineer, and mesmer

If a suggestion doesn’t follow this template then it is just ignored. You can look over every balance patch since launch and they will ALL follow this OVERALL pattern.

When will we get new skills in the game?

I don’t think this really deserves a serious response…. I’m sorry but your logic fails to support a need for new skills, weapons and traits….

well except for the fact that everyone, including Anet agrees there aren’t enough skills…

thus why they said that they will be introducing new skills and weapons before the end of 2013.

See the second half of the year blog in the news section of the site somewhere. But basically, “soon” as in before December 31st.

The point was that salvaging in itself is not bannable just like flipping in itself is not bannable. However flipping 1000s of these blueprints while there is obviously something amiss may be, just like salvaging 1000s of the snowflake jewelry items was.

You are comparing apples to oranges. The snowflake exploit WAS the process of salvaging.

Buying and selling items due to those price fluctuations was never a problem and is not in this case either. As long as you aren’t doing the duping/exploit yourself you have nothing to worry about.

All characters at a same level should have the same amount of stat points, but distributed differently according to their class. That’s how i see balance.

Unfortunately Anet went with their own original balance scheme… which went something like this:

Split ranged and melee damage. Balance all classes to have similar damage output in those two categories.

Assign base health completely randomly
Assign armor values based on class.
Make gear, not class or role decide majority of stats over base.

Basically this meant that warriors ended up with the highest base health, the highest base armor, the highest mobolity, and due to balance issues the highest base damage of any class. This is seen as “acceptable” to Anet because they have limited utility I guess.

In “traditional” MMO’s, you generally have the stat trinity. Health, armor and damage output. They balance around something like a 10 point scale. You distribute those 10 points between the 3 categories to obtain balance. Each class then has an attribute/gear set so they linearly increase in power as you get better gear. This means it is fairly simple to maintain power/balance as the game evolves. Anet threw this out the window and decided to use rng to determine balance as far as I can tell.

Seems like a typical warrior. Basically add together all the stats of the other 7 classes multiply by 10 and there is the base stats of warrior.

So basically zerker gear gets quadruple damage stacking bonus from all 4 stat increases, while condition users don’t gain a single point of damage, literally, 0.

Not true…. I think my necro scepter attack hits for 1-2 more…. so not LITERALLY zero. To answer the question, with infusions, I get about 1 extra damage per bleed. (roughly 20 condition damage).

Yeah it is sad…. but that is just Anet’s way of telling you to at the very least play a hybrid build.

Ok that’s true, I should have specified, 0 extra condition damage ticks, until you get 2 weapons + infusions, and already have 2 condition damage over your last threshold, will give you 1 extra damage per bleed tick.

But yes your scepter/staff will hit for like 201 damage instead of 200 damage now on auto attack.

An option I’d really like to see is smart ground targeting when targeting areas that are out of range.

Like if I use a 900 range teleport, but I cast it at 1000 range, then it still casts at it’s maximum 900 range in the direction of where I tried to cast it. Instead, right now it just fails until you target within range, which usually means you’ll waste like 100 range.

This would be a huge QOL change.

I love the communication that is going on in this thread, it gives me hope for the future of the game.

However the is one MAJOR issue that has thus far been completely ignored by the devs.

Condition damage in PvE: It is horribly broken and is a major game system. It really needs a complete overhaul, but seeing as that is unlikely, one of the MANY MANY suggestions on this forum would be helpful. But we have not heard a single peep or response to one of the biggest issues currently in the game in over 11 months. That to me is unacceptable.

Please help us, you are our only hope!

Nothing will ever be balanced around ascended gear. Why you ask?

Because Anet couldn’t balance a fight that tightly if they tried. They are simply not good enough at designing fights for it to ever come down to such a small difference in stats.

The only mechanics they are really good at is “add a timer and more hp”, which will always depend far more on rotations, traits and gear set ups then it will on the stats of the gear.

It’s no secret that a lot of players who no longer actually play the game still post here on the forums. Or maybe you are just burnt out and only log on once a week. My aim with this thread is to provide Anet feedback on why you left, got burnt out, moved to another game, etc. and then also give helpful suggestions on what they could change to get you back into the game.

I’ll start.

Reasons for leaving:
1. Content coming too fast. It simply burned me out. I felt like I needed to play every day just to keep up, it stopped being about fun and became about desperately trying to stay ahead.

2. Grind got too ridiculous. Grinding for a legendary or two was fine. No stat increase, take it at my own pace, just something cool to work for. Ascended weapons with their time gates, huge gold sinks and gear treadmill contributed to my burn out. I had to harvest or grind 2 hours a day just to keep up with the time gating, not fun.

3. Condition damage hate. For the last 12 months I have dealt with the fact that my chosen class is completely useless because of the major limitations to condition damage. Teq and the new dungeon were the final nail in the coffin. The fact that you are designing large group events and dungeons while completely ignoring and not even acknowledging condition specs is just a slap in the face.

How to get me back:

1. Slow down the content. I would much rather one content update a month if it meant you actually tested the content, it had an actual story, and it wasn’t always so rushed. I bought this game because of epic fights with dragons, and the rich GW1 lore. Instead what I’ve been getting is a crazy clown lady who blows stuff up “just cause”.

2. Remove time gating. This doesn’t help anyone, it just hurts everyone equally. I shouldn’t need to do anything within one day. I want to play at my own pace and complete things at my own pace. Sometimes I can’t log in for a week, but then I can play for 7 hours one day. My time played should be the measure of progress, not my number of log ins.

3. Fix condition damage. I’ve seen probably 50 good suggestions, for technical workarounds to complete reworks, to stop-gap measures. At least tell us where you are on the problem. This issue affects everyone in the game. When culling affected everyone in the game you really pulled it together and came up with a solution. This issue is significantly more problematic than culling and yet we hear nothing.

Please note that this is not a place for fanboys and the stalwart defenders of Anet to tell me why my reasons for not having fun are somehow “wrong” and that I need to accept it or leave. This is a place for people to discuss and say why they personally are not enjoying the game and what can be done to fix it. Any posts telling people they are having fun wrong will be reported.

Interesting update even if it’s a bit small. Given the fact that the Molten alliance facility and the aetherblade dungeon will be coming back in the form of fractals, I bet this will be permanent.

Seems like lately Anet has been focusing less on “big” LS updates that force you to do random chores and more on one big central item in the update and some random stuff for the meta around it that you can ignore if you just do the daily for a while.

Although I thought the whole of TA was getting an update not just a new path… if not I’ll be a little bit disappointed but the new path should be fun.

You are right, that’s indeed the direction they are going. But tell me why whole TA needs an update ?

Well one path of TA is completely broken and never run. And the devs said ALL dungeon paths would be getting a revamp like AC to introduce better mechanics and less autoattack spam. Now it seems like they are just adding a single path instead.

All it needs to drop is 1 Teq Slayer token per day. Add in a vendor with unique ascended weapons for 25 tokens, the mini for 75 tokens, and exotics for 3 tokens, and BAM, long lived content that will be played for years to come.

The problem isn’t so much zerker gear as it is dodge. As long as the dodge mechanic stays in the game there is simply no reason to ever take a defensive stat. Who cares about having more health and mitigating damage when anything that hits you will kill you in 2 hits and you can just avoid the damage completely with dodge?

To make other gear more effective you would need to rework every mob in the game to do much much less damage but attack much more frequently. Also you would need to increase the effectivness of armor. This would have a number of effects.

1. It would increase the viability of tanky gear by making you actually survive longer with better gear.
2. It would increase the effectiveness of healing gear since you can do medium AOE heals to the group to make them actually survive longer
3. It would balance blind in PvE to not be so crazy OP, and instead make it situationally useful for larger attacks.
4. It would increase the effectiveness of confusion in PvE since enemies would attack much faster.

Once that is accomplished conditions will need to be reworked from the ground up to not be designed to be useless.

600 Rares salvaged today, only got 442 ectos out of them. I normally get somewhere in the upper 500s.

decent sample size. This does look a bit low….

The Ecto prices and the rare market are unaffected, thus the salvage rate is fine. If there were a bug like last time it would be reflected in the market.

Using laurels for gold is a huge waste. Never do this.

I highly doubt that you have bought enough infusions to outfit all your alts in full ascended gear yet. Once ascended armor comes out that will give you 16 slots for infusions. That is a possible +65 to one stat, +20%MF, and +15 to a different stat.

Ecto salvage rates were ninja nerfed on the 20th. I know because I salvaged 25 rares and got 7 ectos out of it, which has never, ever happened before. I allways got 1-3 ectos 90% of the time, so salvagin them was a profit. Ever since the 20th patch, It’s allways a loss to salvage it. I salvage 5-6 rares a day and I haven’t gotten 3 ectos out of it in days, I’m always loosing money from salvaging them.

It was nerfed, believe it.

Participating in the lazer defense event is how you get the X5% chests.

This must be it. unfortunately while you get credit for the main event, you will not get credit for the defense events while being a turret operator. You would need to leave your turret (and be flayed alive by the people running the event) to get those chests.

I’m sorry, but why? Where is this rule written that you can’t have open world content that requires organization?

There is certainly no written rule about this but don’t you think it’s a little bit counter intuitive? One example of why it is :
One server gets organized and has the luck to be fully in his home server (somewhat a feat already). They’re preparing at least one or two hours (well or maybe more actually when it’s prime time) in advance, for many different reasons, and a couple of minutes after arrival, they realize one guy is AFK on a west turret because he won’t answer PMs nor move. So what to do?
Either A) Wait until he gets disconnected or leaves or Find another server.
If they chose A), and somehow that AFK guy comes back every 15 minutes to see if Teq has arrived (resetting auto-kick timer) and goes away again, won’t see or won’t bother with PMs effectively hindering the organized group attempt and finally won’t show up to man the turret while the event starts for whatever reason (thus having to let the afk person die to mobs when they spawn to reclaim the turret).
If they chose, one of them needs to reconnect, to fall into overflow, to check if it seems suitable for their attempt, to make the whole group from the main server join his party 4 people at a time (but then once more people join, more can join too) and to be successful in getting his message across the entire group (which almost requires third party voice communications software since there’s none in-game and no alliance system like GW1).

Don’t you agree that it’s crazy having to do all this to have a chance to succeed? And there are many other examples that could be given that could generate the same situation. An instanced fight wouldn’t have these problems.

Well I certainly agree the turrets need a solution. There are other threads about that though.

The simple fact is that there are multiple ways to coordinate and win, and if you want to do so you will find a way. I have killed Teq every night for the past 4 nights now, just by asking around, talking to people, and figuring out where the bigger guilds are doing the event. I don’t even belong to those guilds and I still get in by cooperating, not whining, showing a willingness to learn and following instructions.

It’s an open world event. We shouldn’t have to do anything else other than waypoint to the event to participate and then have a chance at completing the content.
If I have to organize a group before hand, it should be instanced. As a player, I shouldn’t have to find a solution to circumvent game mechanics that are failing to be able to experience the content as designed and to enjoy a fun experience. Mechanics should be in place to facilitate our gaming experience not hinder it.

Mechanics are in place to facilitate your experience. There is a lfg tool, the ability to join 5 different guilds used for different purposes, and guesting. All these mechanics have been put in place to help you find ways to work together to achieve your goal.

If you leave the turret and get back in then wait the animations will all trigger. Once they are caught up it will work again.

Look, I can understand your qualms as long as the needed added server capacity takes a backseat to added server capacity for PvP purposes. Which probably wouldn’t happen. (Not unless they suddenly dramatically invest in their infrastructure for both PvP and condition-cap/PvE reasons)
Have you played WvW lately?
Removing the condition cap when it really only matters in a select few situations like this one is utter fluff compared to that.

And yes, the condition cap in PvE is due to a back end server bottleneck. This was stated by the devs already close after release.

Hmm let’s see… where does the condition cap matter:

Group Events
Dungeons
World Bosses
Fractals
Structures

Where doesn’t it matter:
sPvP

explain again how it only affects, “a select few situations”? It affects 99% of the game and 99% of the players. The only people it doesn’t effect are the 50-100 people that still PvP on a regular basis

And no I haven’t played WvW lately, and neither has most of the player base, which is why they should spend more time fixing the areas that still have players left.

So half the people on here are complaining that there are too many people to get into a main server… and the other half are complaining that their main servers aren’t populated enough to finish the event…

novel idea here…. why don’t you both stop complaining and instead team up? If you are constantly being kicked to overflow then pick a less populated server to guest on to complete it. Even the lower pop servers have guilds and TS.

Well I’ve come to admit I was wrong. I cried for a nerf the first few days but in reality it just took people a little longer to learn the fight then I thought. Main servers are now clearing Teq 5+ times a day, and even some overflows are starting to clear.

The only problems that remain are the turret operators are such a big factor, and the difficulty for uncoordinated overflows is too high. I would suggest implementing an AFk kick feature in the form of a ready check as well as increasing the population cap which should alleviate the overflow problem, and possibly adding in a few more turrets to take the pressure off the 6 turret operators.

well it will cost you all the gold you made from those 6 precursors to get to 300%, but if you are willing to spend it then you can do it in a week.

All classes are fun in their own way, but in reality if you want to be effective and useful in PvE you roll a warrior/guardian or you are out of luck.

Though with the introduction of Teq ele’s have a niche roll.

PvP is what’s holding this game back. So many needless restrictions, stupid decisions and random crap 95% of the players have to put up with to cater to this sick unrealistic fantasy the devs have of making this game an “E-sport”

The game would be much better off if they scrapped PvP entirely.

I don’t see why anyone would be against this… we can either have it put in place, or you can have people getting kicked from 50 parties in a row because they don’t meet the requirements for the dungeons. If you don’t want to join his party then here is a novel idea… don’t hit join…

But for those of us who would rather have smooth simple runs and not have to go through the process of teaching people how to play the game every time we do a dungeon, something like this would be nice. I’m all for helping people, but I don’t want to teach people that there is a dodge button every time I want to do a dungeon.

BG will become accessible once the hype dies down a little. It isn’t just your server, it is all marge servers. I waited 6 hours to get into JQ and then I only did because a guildy got in and invited me.

Make sure you have lots of guildies and friends, you can party with them to get you in ahead of the line.

Teq and future popular world bosses should get a ready check put in place, say 5 minutes prior to the event beginning. Much like the queue timer is now, if you don’t respond as ready before it expires, you’re moved into overflow or outside of the map. So you’re not starting the event with 30 AFK people and clogging up a zone, forcing others who want to do the event into overflows.

This seems like a good idea. But like most good ideas I doubt it will ever happen.

In the grand scheme of things I guess it isn’t that hard. I mean it was beaten on the first day. If I remember correctly, weeks go by before the new hardmode raids in WoW are first beaten.

No, the best strategy is to stack and have numerous guardians put up walls of reflection so that the poison can’t hit the zerg, and the turrets can keep the stacked area cleansed as well. This way you don’t waste precious dps killing fingers.

The more people you can have on teq (assuming you have enough to keep turrets up 100% of the time) the better your chances are.

I got an ascended weapon chest (soldier) and a rune of the sunless, beneath two rare and some green / blue items.

Was that the unique teq skin or just the normal skin?

One of the things that surprised me when I downed Tequatl was how basic the strategy is. I’m sure even PUGs will be farming him within two weeks. It’s really all about stacking.

As far as I know it has yet to be done using only ingame resources. Every successful attempt I’ve heard of needed TS to win.

SO… technically still impossible without 3rd party programs.

Also the majority of the attempts have been performed by either BG or TC. They just keep guesting around and beating it on different servers to help people out. Which is great, and very nice of them, but not representative of the majority.

Not saying I don’t like the challenge, beating it is fun, i’ve done it once, hoping to do it again tonight. But to be fair it has yet to be beaten by normal players, which is what the people claiming it was impossible had in mind I think.

Under that logic, doing tPvP with voice chat is cheating. It’s ELITE content. If voice wasn’t required/extremely helpful, it wouldn’t be hard.

You’re comparing apples to oranges. tPvP is instanced with set teams. If teq was a 20man raid in an instance I would not be having this discussion.

A more accurate comparison if you want to use PvP is hot join sPvP. No organization, and random people. It is the PvP equivalent of open world content. How many random PvP pugs would be able to beat your tPvP team if you joined them and were using voice chat?

That’s basically what we have. Open world content in which organized groups on TS can beat and random pugs who are leveling and want to try the event who will never succeed in a million years.
