The Living Story achievements should happen naturally as you play the game and not by following a guide. Just saying that following a guide or walk-through for each LS achievement kills the purpose of a story which is suppose to come as you progress through it.

This is why the whole temporarily content idea is bad…And an expansion or a big permanent content is more suitable for the current state of the game.

How do you expect ArenaNet to keep people playing the game?
Solution: Fix WvW. Add perm contents to WvW. Because that is the true end game of guild wars (where guilds go to war).

Many thanks for this post…I didn’t know what the LS story is actually trying to explain.

This was my personal summary until I read the post: (got the game during frost and flames LS. So missed everything before that.)

  • Flame and Frost

During the Frost and Flames I was searching for some actual new area/map that is different than the current world. Some hidden path somewhere?. Then I realized that it is just fixing some post signs and reviving some NPC. I was new to the game and didn’t know much at that time…

  • Secret of Southsun/Last Stand at Southsun

OK time to kill some karka crab and talk to some NPC and collect some samples and some impossible jumping puzzles (where is my mesmer best friend?)…I guess it is all related to some dragons eventually. Oh yeah…the chick on the beach looks hot and jumping in the water for some achievement is very cool…Thanks ANet

oh yeah. Some molten dungeon which had a cool boss fight. I guess that is related to some crabs or dragons somehow too…

  • Dragon Bash

Wow…LA looks beautiful. Some glass dragon flying in the sky of L.A, and some NPCs talking about stuff…oh yeah..who can forget the hot chick you talk to in the bar? what was her name? not sure, but really cool cutscene…I guess we have to find a spy since someone got assassinated.

  • Sky Pirates of Tyria

Some pirates show up in the world…how or where? who knows/cares…but it has some more JPs to get to the ship. awesome…this is the fun stuff! oh wait..rage quit after falling to my death 100 times….

kitten this dungeon is hard and a afk dodge ball game….oh well…I am sure it will come together somehow…

So much credit to the ANet Art team for designing this gorgeous place. The kites looks amazing….and the whole JPs are now doable…oh wait! JP in WvW? Why….

PS. My post is not trying to criticize LS contents. This is basically what I understood from the story considering I completed all the meta achievements for the LSs.

Agreed. Many things in game such as fractals and WvW levels should be account bound not sole bound. They do this for PvP, so not sure why the PvE levels and WvW are not implemented this way? Will it change at this stage of the game? I highly doubt it.

No. The game doesn’t need hard mode. The dungeons are already hard enough…I agree that the bosses lack AI and are just a punching bag until their 99999^99 health drops, but considering you can only have two dodge roll, it would be very difficult to have bosses with real AI attacking and moving in all directions….

What needs to be fixed first is a armor burden/wight stat, and based on your armor’s wight, you can dodge roll more or less. It is not fair if a tanky heavy armor guardian has the same dodge roll as a light armor necro/ele…once this gets fixed then we can have harder bosses and someone can choose to go in the fight naked or lighter armor because without being able to dodge the attack, you are basically open to get punch in the face….

If you want hard mode, then you can go and solo arah or fractals…no need to make dungeons worst than what they are right now…

I feel that a lot of the stats are being wasted by having power traits line tied with condition duration and precision tied with condition damage….

If the warrior build is not focused towards a condition damage build then all these bonus stats are basically wasted…but a dps warrior needs power and precision. so why can’t these two be tied into one trait line?

Having 70 traits points is already bad since the total is 150. And then having to go with wasted stats is even worst….

PS. This is not only for warrior class but other classes as well…

Just wanted to thanks ArenaNet for an amazing content of the Bazaar of the Four Winds LS and the JPs..

I have my disagreements with all the temporarily contents in game and grinding for some crab shells or putting JP’s in WvW maps, or trolled pirated dungeon, and etc….but I have to say for someone that hated JPs in this game, I am now eager to try out all the JPs in the game.

I am not sure if it was ANet’s intentions to encourage new player to try out JP’s or it just happened; but the JP cliff race and all the other kite JPs were awesome….

After trying them out and getting the achievements, I realized that I am actually NOT that bad at jumping puzzles….

I encourage all the players who are not so interested in JPs to go out and try out this content…

The Bad
- The living content sucks the life out of the rest of the game. And especially when it is supposed to be a continuous flow of content every 2 weeks. People will be playing the LS in order to get the latest rewards, knowing they can ‘always’ do the existing content (and due to the one time nature of various elements of these stories, they will have to), but if the content keeps flowing, when will this ‘always’ be…

The stories have been connecting.

Dragon bash started and AR pirates assassinated someone on the council so we went after them. Now a flying Bazaar is docked and we are learning about them, then (next week) we will need to help Kiel (who we helped in Southsun with the Consortium, who were persecuting the F&F refugees) or Evon (head of the BLTC) make a trade agreement with the Zypherites and whoever succeeds will be worthy of the council position. Technically they have been tying together (albeit, I did pick some of that stuff up from the forums and not from the game itself), but I think it has to do somewhat with the story telling and somewhat with my own memory. So that’s why it can’t be permanent, also Anet wants to be able to reward people that are around and playing (thus why we can’t get the rewards at our leisure).

Technically the only things you miss out on are 1) the story, 2) 1-2 meta items (which are almost always skins or a little toy/gizmo/interactable item), 3) achievement points (which I only mention because of the new reward system).

I’m not saying I completely disagree with you though. I wouldn’t mind some “breathing” room between updates (1 week or something). Just so I can play how I want to and not “worry” about missing out on any LS content. The main perk though, is usually how fast you can actually do the LS content, it only took me <5 hours to get the meta for BotfW. And I think a bunch of casual players haven’t had too much players to get it either.

Another option I’d suggest is maybe just have all of the content available at the start of the month (combine the two updates), in some cases that would be fine (give more people time to learn and master the AR dungeon for example) but in others it would end up hurting the casual gamer more (like in the election, the vote is gonna come down to which side has more time to grind tokens from the mini games).

Edit: Oh they are bringing back the two mini dungeons from F&F and AR into fractals by the end of the year. Also somewhere in another thread, people have been asking for a “historian” to relive the old living story stuff that has passed (no rewards, just to see the content), but if I recall correctly a dev said that’s what they plan to use fractals for.

Thanks for the summary of the events for the LS. As you mentioned yourself, these hard dead lines for the LS is hurting the casual players as of myself. With such tight schedules on LS, I feel like I am missing out on a lot of other actions such as WvW, dungeons, fractals, leveling alts in game when trying to hunt down these living stories during the time I dedicate to this game. Oh well….cant be asking too much…at least there is something different in the game every month or so….

As far as I remember the vast majority of the temporary content have stayed longer than 2 weeks.
New release != removal of old stuff.

As for unlocking as you go, that would work if the game was instanced, that is however not the case, so people can’t really be at different storylines at the same time.

The previous three living stories (Best contents of the game so far after release) all have stayed exactly 2 weeks and no longer than that…

I am still puzzled by the intentions of ANet having this 2 week temp contents. Does ANet really expect that all the GW2 players have nothing else to do other than play the living story?

As someone with a passion for the game and lack of time to play, I always have to run to Dulfy site to get the walkthroughs for the achievements and rush through them without really knowing what the heck is the story all about!!! because if I blink twice, the content is gone/expired…now rush through the next one…

Why we can’t combine all the living stories into a permanent expansion content that can unlock as we progress through the story but will not disappear from the game? This way we can always go back and get the achievements and what not…The contents can still be unlocked every two weeks to get players interested but then don’t remove the previous parts…oh wait, the living stories are totally unrelated to each other and completely random and cannot be put together as one content. Am I wrong? probably because I had no time to see what the story is about?

We can still get the special mini events during Halloween or Christmas but the real living story should stay permanent.

The story is going towards a big jumping puzzle if you haven’t noticed. Eventually the whole GW2 world will be a big jumping puzzle over flying dragons and water…

Soon enough JPs will be introduced in dungeons because apparently people should not farm dungeons more than once a day. CoF will be a big melting JP and flying angry mobs over our heads…

Like that guy said before, JP is the fun part of GW2 and lets make it more fun by having enforced JPs in every part of the game…It is all about having some fun right?

Why not add some new world events to the living story? Everyone loves fighting the big dragons of the current world events. Why not bring new bosses to the living stories?

Also some better loot/rewards for fighting the champs in the living story would help mixing up all the JPs with some real group fighting…

To complete each living story achievement takes about 5-10 hours. Some players even claim it takes less than 2 hours. Personally I check the rewards and if it not worth the efforts then I skip it (for example: southsun cove).

Engineers can be pretty boss in WvW, since they can accomplish many roles:

A) Support. Water fields heal, fire fields give might, smoke fields give stealth, light field gives retaliation. They can cleanse conditions and heal quite well, all the while putting many disabling conditions on the opponent.

B)Bunker. By flipping through all of the blocks, blinds, jumps, stuns, and heals an engineer has, they can be incredibly hard to kill when built right.

C)Damage. The grenade kit can rain unholy hell on anyone who gets stuck in the barrage, and the ability to self-stack 25 stacks of might easily makes them a force to be reckoned with. Nearly everything they do is in an AoE, so they are effective at Skirmishing, Zerging, and Defending.

It really comes to what you want your engineer to do in WvW, and what you want that engineer to do in dungeons. If those two things are different, then you’ll have to either have two builds or pick one or the other. If those two things are the same, then just make one build and go nuts. And that decision is whether you want to do WvW or dungeons more.

My engineer is almost level 80 and I am wondering if I should focus on a WvW build or PvE dungeon build?

I used to take my ranger to WvW which used to dominate before they nerfed the class…so now I am planing to replace him with an Engineer. But I am not sure how valuable engineer class is in WvW?

Should I focus on a PvE build for this class or aim towards a WvW build?

There is no point mixing WvW contents with PvE or the other way around….

A lot of us are new to the game and trying to get these achievements to catch up…If you have played for 11 months and you are a pro player then you have already achieved what the OP is trying to get….no point for this kind of attitude of “you don’t like JP then don;t do JP. you don’t like WvW then don’t do WvW”

All the OP is asking is keep the PvE living story achievements where they belong….

I dislike p1 in PuGs… It’s that darn console hacking room. Someone always messes it up. Last time I had a PuG break at the last second because he was afraid that the defender couldn’t handle the bombs. :|

Does ArenaNet really want it’s players to hate dungeons? Why troll the new players with this dungeon once they reach level 35? Why not just increase the required level to level 80 and get it over with?

Does ANet really expect 5 new level 35 characters can beat this dungeon?

Is this truly the best choice of dungeon to introduce to new players trying to get into dungeons?

PS. I know at least someone is going to comment that they solo’ed AC at level 35 or whatever. That is amazing and you are truly skilled in this game. This post is mostly for new players to GW2 and still learning the tactics at low level.

I want freedom to control the LFG (like on gw2lfg) but I fear Anet will go for the dumbed down version where you choose a dungeon and click a button then you get into a random group.

But I’m not really that worried. Assign the same person that coded the WvW queue system to do the LFG queue system and no one will ever get into a group anyway.

It wouldn’t be such a bad idea if they mix and match pro players with the newer players at long as everyone is level 80.

A tokens’ collectible wouldn’t really be all that useful, to be honest. Collectibles store just one stack of an an item type, whereas, most of us dungeon runners have a dozen+ stacks of every dungeon’s tokens.

Our buying more bank tabs is how ANET will make some money from this free game, and I think it is a fair method.

Yes I agree. I don’t see this ever happening but just wanted to point it out and maybe we all get lucky and they add this.

If you want to support ANet through the Gems store then there are many more items you can buy other than just bank slots.

I love how the crafting materials have their own separate tab in the bank and I wish the same was for dungeon/fractals and other tokens in the game.

I think purchasing extra bank slots to store tokens is kind of silly since these are not items.

If you want to get enough tokens for a full set then you going to need at least 1800 tokens which is around 6 bank slots. This is quite a heavy tax on bank slots if you are running a lot of dungeon and fractals and need to store all these tokens for your other character or even future builds.

ArenaNet, please figure this out as there is really no point of having these tokens taking up space in our bank slots which are quite honest not that cheap to buy.

I checked the achievement window and it only shows 1/3 or 2/4 path but doesn’t say which paths?

I run a lot of random dungeons with gw2lfg and a lot of the times I forget which path I completed.

I hope they add more detailed info on this to the achievement window.

Gem store Canadian Currency?

Why the Gem store doesn’t support Canadian Currency? Every time I buy gems, I end up paying the bank exchange rate + currency exchange fees charged by my credit card company.

Even though at the bottom of the checkout windows it shows Canadian, The price is still in US currency. So every $10 of gems actually costs me around $12 in Canadian currency.

PS1. Before you suggest this, I know there are gem cards you can buy in store but currently only online retailers sell this and have to wait a week for it to get shipped or pay extra premium shipping charge to get it faster.

PS2. Also I use one of the known banks in Canada and please don’t advise on changing my credit card. I use a visa and it is all the same..

If an scout is sent out to report your zerg’s location on the map then what is the point of chasing it or killing it…basically your location is discovered no matter if you try to kill the enemy or not….

To solve the problem:

There should be a cooldown timer added before an enemy is able to message the officers and squad again after he/she is killed….

An invader should not be able to message the officer or squad while under attack….

I use my ranger mostly in WvW and running with groups/zergs as a support healing/traps/ranged condition damage role. Looking for suggestions for this kind of build after the patch nerfs on the ranger?

PS. I know about GS and Axe high DPS on rangers, but if I want a high DPS build then I would bring my warrior. This build is mostly focused on support role in a group (ranged damage + traps + high condition + healing/buffs groups). Thanks in advance…

I can’t go into details, but there were a tiny number of accounts that had false positives for cheating/hacking caused by a bug in the puzzle. We’re fixing that bug (if it hasn’t been fixed already) and reinstating the accounts that were incorrectly banned.

So basically if it wasn’t for the reddit post, these player’s account would stay banned? I wonder what is the exact number of “tiny number of account” in this case and how many other account have been wrongly accused due to the flaws in your detection software in the past?

You guys have made an excellent game but the attitude towards some of us dedicated players need to change a bit. “Our software has detected that you modify the game and now you are banned and decision is final and non-reversible” is not the best response when you software makes mistakes.

As a new player who has just started playing GW2 since March 2013, I find Devona’s Rest a true home with lots of active and welcoming guilds. I always find lots of action in WvW with large groups and commanders leading the battle/siege. Every Friday when the WvW servers reset, all the guild leaders team up and we get into big groups attacking different objectives. It definitely feels like all the guild leaders (at least the big guilds) work together to help Devona’s Rest players stay on top of WvW objectives. I have managed to level/rank many of my players just with WvW. I now have four level 80 characters with mostly participating in WvW events. Also one thing I have noticed in places like L.A. and WvW maps, there is always a lot of guild flags that gives you bonuses XP and Karma and etc placed all over the areas.

I also find lots of players in PvE areas for dungeons and World events or even low level areas. I never had any problems finding players to level my characters even outside of the guild or outside WvW.

For PvP portion of the game, I am not sure if Devona’s Rest has its own player base or it is mixed with other servers, but I never have any problem joining people who want to do PvP tournaments.

Playing in Devona’s Rest has become a social part of my daily life, and it feels like another world that I have been a part of for a long time.
