Honestly, I think players are focusing too much on the achievements and not enough on just playing the game.
Achievements have become the entirety of the game. Go try to kill the bosses in Orr or ask for a group to do Arah Story Mode. You won’t find anyone because they are all outside chasing balloons. ArenaNet is moving piles of populace to new locations each week while leaving the majority of the world as empty as Kessex Peak from Guild Wars 1.
The release just dropped, it’s not surprising you don’t see players doing pre-existing content when new content is now here. Everyone’s checking it out.
Outside of this, I certainly do see people killing the bosses in Orr.
Yes, it just dropped, I already have 9/16 achievements and I’m finished with this update. I have no need nor desire to log on until the next content update. Even then, I will log on only long enough to grab the new back item or perma-toy and repeat the cycle over again.
And in regards to the Orr bosses, your server must be far more active than mine. Orr is dead for me, no pun intended.
Awesome, good for you. Take advantage of the no subscription fee and only play when you like it. There’s something every two weeks so you’ll have plenty of opportunities to see if something grabs your interest. Whatever’s fun for you.
See that’s the kicker though. It’s not fun. I haven’t had fun in the game since this whole living story started. The core game was brilliant and then it just died with the introduction of the Living Story. I log on for new content in hopes of finding something fun but it never happens. The Living Story killed my game.
LIVING STORY IS OPTIONAL. If you weren’t having fun since it started why make yourself play through it all? That’s a very odd thing to do. There are other activity’s for you to do but if nothing else interest you then take a break and do something else with your time until something you like gets added to the game.
First off, the entire game is optional. Please, stop using that lame duck ‘optional content’ argument. You only make yourself look like a Thackeray or Bookah or whatever it is you humans hurl as insults.
Second, I am forced to play the living story because that’s where the people are. I can’t play the core game any longer because there aren’t enough people to complete the content. Do you understand?
Breaks do not help. As a 7+ year WoW vet, I can tell you, each break you return from only makes you hate the game more and more.
As it stands, I cannot complete my game because of temporary living story content.

Overall, I think this was a great update.
I love how they made the boss fights in this event more interesting. The bosses have hard-hitting dodgeable/blindable/interruptable attacks and relatively low health pools,

Ok I finally got over the fact that these LS are temporarily and last 2-4 weeks. Now we have overflow maps and after finally getting in the map after 3-4 hours of waiting and killing mobs there is the challenge queues?
This is not like it is PvP or a group fight…so why not just have it available to each player? what is the point of the queues?
Unfortunately due to my lack of playtime I am not sure if I have time to wait for all these overflow map + queues…
UPDATE: apparently I have to talk to some NPC called ringmaster on the third floor….

This is sad but true….the mobs in this Living Story truly show the true side of PvE in this game: kill, defeat, grind, auto-attack, get achievement, done
Spent 6 hours in overflow map until I finally gave up. Please fix it…

Just bring a couple of huge dragons in new world events as part of the living story and everyone is gonna love you and all your temp contents…
The gold bonus does not apply to fractals no, we will however continue to update both content and rewards in Fractals as the year progresses. For example: champion loot bags do indeed apply to Fractals of the Mists.
I would like to see a guaranteed exotic loot by running fractals level 40 and higher.
why is everyone against the idea/fact of farming CoF1 by other players? how does this affect you? if someone wants to run CoF p1 100 times a day then so what? It is their choice how they wanna play the game and not yours. I personally try to run CoF p1 once a day for the tokens for my future alts…but I really don’t understand all the hatred against CoF farmers…

.Difficulty – From the beginning, we wanted to create an event that would truly test player’s abilities to survive, whether solo or in groups. That’s when we came up with the concept of the [Challenge Event]. We wanted to create an event where it was easy to get bronze participation, moderately challenging to achieve silver, and difficult to get gold, and to provide an escalating difficulty curve by making use of tiers that got progressively harder, and progressively harder again with groups. We knew that this would not be everyone’s cup of tea, but we also know that there are many players who are eager to challenge themselves in this way, and we stand by the decision to include content for those players. We made sure to make the lower tiers as accessible for all players and play styles, and the upper tiers (III and IV) a serious challenge! Now, there’s hard and then there’s impossible. I can assure you that completing Tier IV with a group is absolutely possible, but it’s not in any way easy, or even feasible for an uncoordinated group. It requires the utmost concentration and communication, and so our expectation from the beginning was that only a small number of groups would accept the challenge, and even fewer would succeed. I’ve been impressed by the many different methods players are finding to solo Tier IV (Ii’s a feat even I myself have yet to achieve) but I’m just as eager to see what groups come up with to overcome this challenge!

Thanks for your response. I would like to ask if anyone in your test team was able to beat Tier 4 solo/group? and how many attempts it took took them?
I hope that you know the Mobs in the Tier 4 group turn into champions. That means 5 players are against 5 champions while trying to save the supply and dodging the bombs. Is this really your definition of making something challenging in a living story? To me it sounds like a lazy way to say we listened and wanted to challenge the players by spamming the spawn rate of the mobs and increasing the mobs health by a large magnitude.
If a player wants to challenge themselves and let them try high level fractals or add new mob levels for dungeons. But please keep this non-sense un-tested challenges out of the living story.
For your information, I also attempted to do trial 4 solo with my DPS warrior and after 10 failed attempts I decided that it is not worth the time…
Last but not least, this trial could be done easily on the first day by not aggro’ing the mobs and standing on the beach, But then you went ahead and patched it so it couldn’t be beaten anymore. Don’t you think the achievement should have reset to keep it fair between all the players?

I’m still flabbergasted that there are not WvW Legendary or Legendary that can be obtained via WvW… PURELY.
I hate what this game is becoming… every month is some new PvE content while PvP/WvW just keeps getting kittented on.

I have recently started running fractals and already collected around 200 relics. How many do I need to buy anything useful with fractal relics? like infused upgrade.
Maybe its me, but i dont like to press the mouse button 200 times to vote ( have 200 vote tickets ) isnt there a way to just put them all in the basket?

I purchased the game on Feb. 18, 2013, 11:28 p.m. and already clocked over 600 hours and 4k achievement points. This is with a full time job and a family. So I hope this answers your question about me enjoying the game or not!
2. This ISN’T an ELECTION for a seat on the council. Ellen and Evon think that they will be given a seat (by vote of the council members themselves) if they can secure a trade contact with the Zephyrites. It is the Zephyrites that said they will only give the contract to the person that the PEOPLE support. Also, just because government elections don’t let you vote for multiple candidates (or vote more than once), there are lots of things in real life that do this (reality TV competition?).

For this sir you deserve a cookie. I think that it is really normal that someone does not like some kind of added content. But I do not get why it should be deleted so people who enjoy it cannot play it anymore.

Cutthroat Politics is just a pointless addition to the boring Living story. It doesn’t even deserve to be called a content patch.
1. If you really think that 1 cutscene and a couple of NPC conversations is going to give all the background info to the player then you are living in the clouds…Please step on earth; It is not such a bad place….
2. If we are voting for two candidates, then why we are allowed to vote for both? Voting for one candidate should disable voting for the other candidate? When you vote in real life for your countries party/president, do you vote for all of them? seriously ANet, what are you thinking?
3. Mini games? and what is the point of mini games in the candidate election? how on earth does a mini game help a candidate or how does it relate?
4. The Tiers? Nice job patching the trials and making it harder for the players that can’t play the game within the first hour of the new un-tested build. Even if the trials were hard from the beginning, why is this even here? what is the point of it?
5. The minis? OK so I put 10 hours and got the achievements for the candidates? you rewards me with two minis? How about something that I can actually use in game?
I can go on but this is not worth my time. Hopefully the next patch will remove any residue from the Cutthroat Politics in GW2 and I hope to never see it again.

I’ve said it before, and I will repeat it here. We are aware of the problems with the WvW achievements and will be doing more to address them in the near future. Currently it is more complicated to solve the problems than I would like, which means we need to have a fully comprehensive solution before doing anything.
This is not a complicated issue at all. Just multiply the WvW achievements points by 10 or 20 in your code to balance it out with PvE points…
Let me explain better:
For example we have the “Ultimate Dominator” title Tier 6 [250,000 Total Kills in WvW]. If you add all the achievements for all 6 tiers, they add up to 51 points if I am doing my math correctly. Multiply the points in the code by 10 or 20 and total will be 500 or 1000 points which is reasonable for such a big achievement. [approx takes 800-1000 hours and only 2 players have this title as far as I know]. The same goes for the rest of the WvW achievements. I can understand that the PvE achievement points could get complex due to many different contents compare to WvW, but WvW system is very straight forward achievement system and very easy to balance it in a patch.

Is it really fair to us WvW’ers that a couple of Living story achievements and jumping puzzles in PvE give the same achievement points as a 250,000 WvW kills? Or does ANet want to see all the WvW’ers on low achievement points?
This should be highest priority on your list of issues to fix and not delaying it of being a complicated issues, because it is very simple to fix indeed.

As a WvW and PvP player, I notice that the achievement balance is totally screwed up in this game. My Guardian just reached level 80 and I am looking for a balanced healing/tank + support + dps build for fractals and dungeons?
I am planning to get armor set with power + armor + healing stats + all guardian runes; and dedicate the accessories and rings to berserker critical damage + precision + power stats. As far as traits lines, I am not sure what to focus on for this kind of build.
PS. I don’t want to go all zerker because I have a warrior that is glass canon zerker in case if the group needs dps.
Another question I have: How was GW1 handled in terms of contents? did it have this kind of LS or any expansions. unfortunately I never got to play GW1 and don’t know the details.
Can’t really spoil anything but August has no jumping puzzle and we definitely wanted to steer away from instanced mini-games.
You just made my day. I think we have seen enough mini games and jumping puzzles for a while. Thanks a lot for the heads up. Just an idea: why don’t you guys introduce new world events and some new dragon bosses. I am sure everyone loves fighting big dragons in groups.

Did you forget about the jumping puzzles? there has been a flood of jumping puzzles in the past contents….
There are so many threads and opinions about the good and bad of the temp contents and sometimes I am wondering if it would have been better if there was no LS contents at all?

As Tychondus mentioned, just treat this game like a game that is or trying to become (good or bad) and not real life.
why go back to lower Tiers? I solo’ed Tier 4 with my warrior 40 times in 1 hour. It was so easy…I wish they had more Tiers…Is this what they call challenging Tier 4? My warrior also solo’s fractals level 60 without any gear equipped. He runs Arah all paths in less than 30 minutes and for a break he goes to WvW and eats some of those zergs with red names on their head for snack….I have 12k achievement points and this game is too easy. I want a buf that disables leveling so that I can solo the game in level 1 character…
PS. I am trolling….:)
Hey ANet, I paid money for your game and gems…please fix your LS stuff or at least test it before…..You making this game into a full time grind job instead of a fun game…

You are unlikely to enjoy every living story patch. Everyone has different tastes. What you think as downhill I see as uphill.
I have very much been enjoying the minigames and the activities sending us out into the world to do stuff.

LOL@these threads. I’m pretty sure there is no requirement to go to dulfy prior to logging into gw2. You choose to go there. If you did the content they would unlock naturally….smh
Yes because the game tells you very clearly what to do and where to go and explain the purpose of the story.
All these LS mini PvP games should count towards the player PvP level. Otherwise what is the point of doing 16 hours of matches for some 5 points achievements? We all know that PvP leveling is a big grind in the game and to be honest I am OK with that being a grind…but these mini games can help (maybe less points but at least something towards the real PvP level).
I feel the LS is making me work to hard rather than play the game to enjoy it….
ANet should just add a couple of world events dragons to the world plus some cool bosses and mobs and stop with these non-sense living stories….
