i believe if you do DC, even though it may have kept track of the baubles you did pick up (seen from the missing bauble on the roof when you got back), the tracking for the achievement itself will be lost.

sucks this happened. : (( but you might have to do it again as the achievement for colelcting baubles i think don’t pop until you complete the level as you have to collect them all in “one playthrough”. whereas the other achieves, shortcut eagle, secrets, assassins, you get as long as you satisfy the requierments during the level.

i want to say AH / 30 Valor builds still definitely have it’s place in the game, even in PvE. even 0/0/30/30/10. if you’ve been gone for a while or unfamiliar with certain dungeons, or if you’re going in with a fresh green group, it might not be a bad idea to go more defensive/support, even for selfish reasons. sure, you can go all out DPS, but if you do that but can’t stay up for more than 5 secs at a time, you’re doign a disservice to your group who have to res you, or wait on you, etc etc. but if you CAN manage on your own, or with a group while being very glassy, then by all means go for it.

i find it’s still nice to have a Guardian that can stand on their own, while giving out boons, because they are helpful. for example, if you’re in a “sub-optimal” dungeon grop, i.e. not all geared and specced for speed runs and min/maxed DPS.

that being said, keep practicing and experiment with new builds. hear what people have to say, but don’t follow them blindly. test ‘em out, and then put in little tweaks that suit your own play style or make sense to you. yes, numbers don’t lie, nor do the way you handle yourself and perform on the field given any stat spread.

just some thoughts, i almost without fail go 30 into radiance now, even if i know i’ll be using 2h weapons. if you’re going 2h weapons for both swaps, you can easily switch around some traits – so you do get the flexibility of using all weapons. and you’ll notice a pretty big damage increase.

so one good step from 0/0/30/30/10 could be —> x/30/30/x/x. though the honor line is very strong and versatile imo as well. anyway, this can be 10/30/30/0/0 for max damage, or 0/30/30/5/5 for some added sustain through vigor and more utility to your virtues, or 0/30/30/0/10 if you like using consecrations, which are godsend in dungeons/fractals or even certain PvE encounters.

then builds similar to what Okeano posted (10/30/0/25/5) or any variations of those you can experiment with as well as you get more comfortable with less and less sustain via AH.

another way to look at this as well is what type of gear have you been using, OP? if your gear was more defensively built, you can try to swap to moer offensive gear, full zerkers or slowly mixing in berserkers while maintaining the same build and see how that goes. and then start changing your build after that as well.

hope this helps and gives you some food for thought.

@Okeano – yes, WoR can be very strong in various dungeons, and fractals. and WvW as well lol. so 10 is always nice to have in Virtues as well, in addition to the other options you can get with the major adept trait. i never used to use WoR as i didn’t enjoy the gameplay too much early, but been experimenting more with it and when used right, it’s not just major damage mitigation, but also a pretty hefty damage increase for you and your group as well.

okay. : )) i think the way you’ve been wording things have some people confused into thinking that you believed a Guardian with AH would get heals for every boon placed on them, regardless of source.

so technically, for the purpose of seeing how much healing a AH Guardian could heal, you wouldn’t need 5 Guards to achieve this. just a party that knows when, where and how to stack. with 5 AH Guards all doing this, i feel there would definitely be over healing, though then i assume you would be able to literally facetank most, if not all, PvE content. apart from one hit mechanics. ://

just to clarify, AH only heals the Guardian for each boon that that same Guardian applies to himself or any of his allies.

so me and me Guardian buddy each lay down a different symbol and we’re dancing around in ‘em. he gets heals for the boons he applies on himself and me. i get heals for the boons i apply on myself and him. but i don’t get heals for the boons from his symbol that are placed on me.

so there would be no “stacking” with AH, if that’s what i think you mean, OP.

yea. very first time i did TM, given it was w1z1, but still first time. and i was in a party that i never left previously (only 2 people left). so i get all the way to the end, almost RIGHT before the boss, i leave party cause others want to join up on me as we were gonan do some dungeons later, aaaaaaaand i get booted from the instance. pertty frustrating lol.

like OP, it was my fault and i should have been more attentive, what with instance owners leaving party dissolves party. which is what i was, since i entered SAB (which is treated as an instance/dungeon). o well.

to me, dodge jumping is kind of a “bonus” ability and is usually not required to make the jumps in SAB (or any jumping puzzles for that matter), even in TM. though, it will make some jumps easier, or have more buffer.

what’s easiest for me is i use my thumb and you want to hit spacebar, then kind of “roll off” into hitting V (binded dodge to this). and though i say “roll”, you do kind of want to hit it at the same time, but don’t hit dodge before jump. and sometimes it helps to hit it with a little deliberate force.

actually i take it back. dodge jump is easiest when i am not “counting on it”. i.e. when running around maps. then, when i expect to execute it to make a certain jump easier, i’ll usually just jump. or dodge to my death. XDDD

PvE incl. dungeons and fractals? the only thing i’d worry slightly about is condition removal. but if that’s not a big problem for ya, tis a strong build!

i personally would have gone for different runes. and armor is quite low, though, again, the goal is to not get hit anyways, so that’s fine. ; )) it does take a bit of time to get used to, since AH gave you a lot of cushion and we, or at least i, got used to getting hit by attacks that i could outheal, but now, i’d have to actively blind before a big hit, aegis before a big hit or dodge. which in a sense, is more a reactive / preventive type play style so it’s pretty fun.

like ODB said, just keep as mobile as you can. i constant strafe, keep an eye on your surroundings.

and re: crit chance, i would like to see it a bit higher as well. but you can give it a shot first and see how it goes.

there are times when i will definitely join the zerg :PP

though, i will say, over-all roaming, especially if you can get a small group going, is the most fun in WvW for me. and thus, i tend to enjoy watching those videos as well. though i will add, i enjoy solo-roaming videos even more – simply because i can watch carefully and make sense of the players each and every move, against each and every enemy they’re up against. part of the reason i enjoy watching vids is to learn and further improve myself.

re: GvG videos. i know they can be fun to be part of, i’m sure (though never tried). and i kow a few that do record from a Guardian’s perspective, but they aren’t the most entertaining to watch from my perspective. it’s just so crazy that it’s hard to pinpoint what’s going on exactly. [added: not bashing GvG’s in any way, just my personal opinion, i’d rather watch a guard (or any class) solo-roam or small man fight than GvG (assuming most of them are around 15+ per side, based on what i have seen]

but.. but… i like that dragons don’t die to some pew pew. they should be epic battles, no? i think it;s kinda neat for a fight to require the server to work together. it sure does sound hard. and am sure ANet is closely monitoring how the event is being received.. how many servers have been able to beat it. at what times. under what circumstances… so we’ll see how it goes, for now.

am sure in the enxt couple of days, people will figure out more tactics and learn more about the encounter.

said this elsewhere.. how long has the update been out? can we give it maybe at least, 3 days? before people complani it’s not doable? my main reasonig for this is, the more people do it, the more you’ll learn, the more word will get out, the more preparations you can make, the more people you can teach… let the “event” run its course first and if there are things that need to be changed or adjusted, they’ll do it then. not 12 hours after the patch – that is, if nothing is blaringly wrong or game breaking.

jokes aside, i will make a small point, i rushed to make my ascended. got 400-500 done in the first day. and then started farming temples, dungeons, harvesting even more than i used to, and doing all the time-gated crafts.. but now? i’m a few dungeons away from my first, but i’ve just been taking my time. even though they introduced this type of gear progression, and even though i WANT it, i told myself “you’re going to ahve more fun than have to want and need everything now.” and it’s been working so far. and the day i DO get it? it’ll be awesome.

i’ve also heard and been told, after the first one, the second, third, fourth won’t be nearly as “bad”. : )) so hang in there!

as frustrating as trib mode is, or world 2 is in general, i’m having a blast and wouldn’t give it up for anything.

and have to say, on a personal, it’s helped with my anger management. when you can remain calm and composed, there is NOTHING you can’t do. XDD

i think when playing in PvP/WvW, the torch has its place. i’ll run around with it in PvE to rack up weapon master kills right now but peobably wouldn’t take it into dungeons or fractals.

i WILL say though, it has amazing burst potential. pair it up with focus, time it and followed by a well executed mace 3 and you can do amazing burst on one target, the lucky one that gets hit by torch 4, as well as AoE burst, pretty much at the same time.

this is WAY too cute. i have a 8mo old right now and my wife and i only play when he’s asleep. tbh? i can’t wait to get him playing games with me. or just having him watch me. i’ll definitely have to learn to control my temper better though when he’s around! see: any TM mode.

that being said, it will only come in doses. i also cannot wait to play soccer with him, go swimming with him, teaching him how to ride a bike, how to help take care of our cat, how to be kind and always willing to lend a helping hand, how to have proper table manners and not be picky with his food, how to count, sing, and just be a merry little boy.

as you teach your daughter responsibility and the value of taking care of life and exercising, OP. : )))

technically, the ICC is what it is, an infinite amount of continue coins. one can farm all the coins they want, if they are “persistent”, and achieve the same as the ICC does. dare i say there are players out there who can now go through each and every single TM zone without using a coin once – regular or ICC. were they only able to conquer TM because they had ICC? i don’t think that’s the key factor here.

now if you’re someone like me who can spend all 9 lives trying to get past a certain zone, the difference between the ICC and using regular coins is that i don’t have to farm non stop before i can finish any given zone in TM.

i see where you’re coming from with your analogy. but with the legendary boss, if you keep grave zerging, and the boss’ health doesn’t reset, yes you can keep “chipping away” at the bosses health and eventually “win”. to echo what Adamantium (snikt!) said, with SAB, even if you use the ICC, you can still keep failing the same jump. and just because you keep repeating the same jump ("hitting the boss over and over), doesn’t mean the distance you have to jump gets shortened each time and then eventually you can just step over. every time you use a coin, you’re set back to square 1 for that jump.

bottom line – ICC = not having to grind. it’s a quality of life item to me, if you will. yes, a HUGE quality of life item. but still a quality of life item. we can agree it’s not an automatic win, though, nor is it an eventual win just because i get infinite attemps at any given jump or series of jumps. you still have to learn the jumps. you still have to be able to be precise with your jumps. and you still have to make the jumps.

Apparently, you all missed a key word: PULLED. =.=

he didn’t mean a literal pull as in a binding blades pull or a mesmer focus pull. but rather “hey, can you pull that group of mobs over here while we stack?”

and with the staff, since AA can hit through objects as explained preivously, you would be able to continue to LoS the mobs while you “pull”.

[added for fun: with the right build, and/or group, and/or situation, the staff can easily be the best weapon on hand XPPP]

Dungeons i find to be the fastest way. when you’ve done all the quick easy paths any given day, then go to JP’s or WvW.

Temples give 30 ores, while world bosses give up to 20 iirc. at least, that’s the max i’ve gotten so far on any given world boss. higher levels seem to yield more than lower levels. example, i got up to 19 for shatterer once and none for shadow behemoth once. of course, this is anecdotal evidence.

i don’t think it’s pay to win. it’s pay to have an easier life, if anything.

could there be someone out there, who can buy 10,000 infinite continue coins and still be unable to complete a single given TM zone? i want to say, yes. there just might be.

and sure Shadow, but choosing to leave and not continuing to try does not equal “winning” either, whatever you guys are arguing winning is here with the ICC.

bottom line having ICC does not equal winning and conquering SAB, regular or TM.

yea, i had no idea what i was doing wrong. so i just kept doing it over and over until i made it in finally. more often than not, i’d get the transition screen for entering the shop, but then i’d get OHKO-ed. attributable to latency i guess.

i have heard that Lianu’s method works – jump up first, and then forward after landing on the lily pad.

i will add though that i do believe whatever build you choose, especially if it’s more.. DPS focused, it will depend on your team makeup as well. even just ONE person can make a big difference. so if you’ve found a good group that allows you to go more DPS, by all means, add them, and keep running with ’em.

i’ve said this elsewhere, i feel before fixing the Guardian so we can “fit in” the new meta, the new meta itself just has to be looked at and further polished – which will be a continuous process for the life of the game. or maybe that’s not how these games / things work. i don’t know.

what i AM trying to say is, i don’t think it’s the class’ problem currently. at least not in this case. sure it’s gonna be tough when you’re a Guard up against a group of condi bunkers. now tell me what build/what class in that situation would be able to hold off 4 condi bunkers [added: easily? or come out on top?]

going back to 1v1’s for the sake of argument, sure it might be a lot tougher to play against some of these other classes as a Guardian. but is it impossible? not even close. least in the matches and fights i’ve had.

but if one’s just to have a class that is faceroll easy, then sure go with the FotM. is that how people use that term?

i guess i enjoy the Guardian class too much. i want us to be better, but i honestly, honestly don’t feel we’re in that bad of a place right now.

strange, i still frigging love my Guardian. whether it be WvW, sPvP, tPvP, PvE.
if you enjoy the warrior, then go play the warrior. there is something for everyone out there. and vice versa.

not saying the class can’t be improved. of course it will and i sincerely hope it does. i’d rather the meta change again, as opposed to our class being tweaked to fit the meta just for the sake of “fitting in” and being “viable” again. because, since the last time i played (i think it was yesterday), the Guardian class is STILL very viable and then some. more than holding their own in all areas of the game.

depedning on how many people are there tagging mobs, damage dealt will be a factor that needs to be taken into account. though so far, getting credit with the ivnasions haven’t seemed to be a problem ever.

i will still say, going full berserker, and then like Chris mentioned, staff and GS will more than suffice. Staff is really all you need XDD 1-3 are all AoE, though staff 1 is tag king.

the only times you’ll have to be careful is when a new group spawns. i always make sure i’m on the perimeter before they start attacking – to avoid perma stun / confusion / daze, etc. then move your way back inside the blob. and yes, stability and stun breakers / condi cleanse help.

for those who keep calling it a grind – yes, i do see that it is a grind.. but what do you normally do when you play the game? you get to choose from dungeons, fractals, world bosses, temples, JPs, wvw.. and through regular gameplay, you’ll get all the mats. the issue seemingly is that you allw ant to have your shinies and goodies this instant.

i’ll be honest, i want them ASAP as well. but i’m not gonna rush myself. you’re playing the game as you would (unless if you play the game for other reasons…) and you get the ascended mats as a bonus. no?
