XDDD i did it only for about.. 20-30g total. might pay him a short visit today but it’s been hard to find a dome all for meself. and i tend to get caught up chatting with others and what not. lol. surely not the most efficient “farmer”. ://

burning last longer, the torch trait? does it affect all burning that we inflict? i always thought it was only from the torch skills XDD [edit: snap, just checked wiki, it does say ALL burning!]

true, not much condition removal to be had at all. if it’s needed in any given dungeon, for example, i’d always make sure the group i’m in has group wide AoE condi removal. if not, then i’ll have to spec for it personally to be on the safe side.

in addition to boosting your gear, i’ve heard that you should circle strafe but only in a quarter of the room. so like you said, strafign back and forth. since if you went full circle, no matter how far or close you are, the oozes that spawned at the beginning of your strafe could end up aggroing towards you, i.e. walking across the dome and ending up near subject 7, where he’ll get healed. may be a good idea to use Shield of the Avenger to negate the dmg from the mini oozes and strafe within the shield while it’s up.

another tactic is to use sword and as the mini oozes spawn near you, keep moving into subject 7 and he’ll actually move back so you’ll be leaving a trail of mini oozes behind you while pushing subject 7 away from them and you can safely hack away. still be mindful of course as thsi method’s not 100%failsafe but it’s how i got the achieve : ))

iirc, the spec i used was 10/30/20/0/10 (II/VI,X,XI/VI,IX,-,1), sword shield. also, use shield to push mini oozes back and subject 7 away to separate them when they get overwhelming, though i didn’t have to use shield in my fight either.

i’d like to think that if you’re running full zerkers, and playing with a hammer a 15/x/x/20/x build could potentially do a lot of damage. vuln on longer lasting symbols sounds pretty sexy to me. i’d put at least 10 in Virtues as well for Consecrations. more might stacking, no? as well as condi clear, or stability, or both, depending on the fights. just make sure to drop the fire fields first, get them blasted and then you go nuts on your symbols. and then probs at least 10 in Radiance for Blind Exposure, more vuln stacking and i’d run sword/focus on my offset. so that’s 3 blinds incl. VoJ so that gives you 9 stacks of vuln and then on hammer, not sure if it’s still bugged but if so, you get 2 stacks on the first hit the symbol drops and then 1 stack per pulse for 3s thereafter, lasting for 4 seconds traited. the dmg adds up over time.

argubly, not the HIGHEST DPS build by any means. but for someone who enjoys hammer, it doesn’t sound too bad. just a thought. : )) though of course, you’re not maximizing your sword DPS by going 30 Radiance.

try to die by a cliff and hope your enemy is unaware enough to stand between you and the edge, pray you’re not blinded, pray they don’t have stability and #2.

so you guys don’t do shark? we usually squeeze that in before giant again and then escort. so you’re saying giant/mage/baron all come back up before escort again?

i’ve done it here and there, and haven’t gotten any drops out of 100’s of boxes either. a guildie of mine got crystal guard first day, entropy second, and then more the next few lol. good luck buddy! ; ))

this is quite interesting and i definitely thought about it as well. confusion from a Guardian?D (well, apart from my Asura brothers)

it’s 5 confusion stacks per interrupt? and afaik, you really only interupt when someone is using a skill mid-cast yes? even if it’s using shield 5 which is more or less instant. i.e. if i use any interupt skills on a person standing still, does that still trigger?

haha, i’ve noticed this as well.

also, slightly unrelated but in-game i’m used to having a one button click to target nearest enemy, which i’d have imagine would work well in the arena, since you’re in most cases facing just one enemy. more often than not, depending on which dome i’m in, it will actually select a mob from the pavillion down below.. which.. doesn’t make sense to me. i can’t even SEE the mobs down there, and there is a doode right in front of me.

if you’re in the arena / domes, that should be a separate area unaffected by anything else outside. if you’re spectating, you can’t do anything to help a buddy or sth. yet, we’re able to be affected by the mobs outside the domes.

just thinking out loud. great concept, but could use some polishign for the next time it comes around. : ))

the leap frogging on the Hills bridge sounds pretty fun. never tried it but they knocked off completely and not just stuck on the edge of the bridge?

though, any high DPS build would get the job done.
i usually carry scepter as well just in case and call target to try to get the party focused on a certain target.

though, nothing beats the ease and AoE of staff. good call re: elemental slaying would help a lot.

Switching weapons is what causes your arena to bug in my experience. Dont switch weapons before you get into the arena.

I find I had to dump Frailty to do this arena reliably since the patch.

thanks for this. come to think of it, every time i get done with Empower, i swap to sword/focus immediately. i guess i’ll wait until i get into the arena. or most likely, switch earlier.

iirc, i read starting on the 23rd of August, lasting for 10 days, each day something different from past gem store items. : ))

when i play sword, i’m almost always sure i’ll be going 30 deep in Radiance. but of course, it’s not necessary. the shield trait in valor, i’ve rarely taken it even when playign with shield at times but if you’re planning to spend most of your time on sword and board, could look into it as well.

a few builds that come into mind, just for purposes of starting somewhere:

20/30/20/0/0
take dmg modifiers for both GS and Sword, and maybe even Shield for some extra toughness.
i’ve played this build in WvW for a bit and while you don’t have a lot of extra sustain via heals from skills, etc depending on how you build, you can jump in, drop a bomb, jump back out. condition removal may be a slight issue as well.

0/30/30/5/5
standard burst focused build. tried and tested in WvW/PvP and quite fun to play. definitely has some added sustain to it compared to the one above. vigorous precision is a great trait and can give you that extra dodge roll you need at times. you do lose out on the extra burst/blind/blocks from focus though, or extra burst from torch 4/4. most likely run it with meditations and Monk’s Focus. lot of mobility packed in there. 2 ports and a leap. with some minor CC on both wep sets.

one small thing about shield 5 – know that you can unroot yourself and get back on the go ASAP by hitting Esc right after you pop the shield. unless of course, if you’re planning to absorb projectiles.

shield 5 is really nice to negate and cancel opponents big hitting skills or heals as well, given you’re not blinded or they have stability, blocks, etc. warrior eviscerating towards you? pop. guardian WW-ing at you? pop. raising their hand with low health? pop. and havnig sword 2 helps you jump back on them right away after the KB/KD.

have used shield 5 to knockdown fleeing foes as well and gave me and my team enough time to lock ’em down.

and always, though the shield is mainly for defense. see unsuspecting foes on a ledge? push ’em all down. XDD

i might go with a variation with your build. i didn’t like staff as much. haven’t tried scepter yet, but sword + GS seems fun. and effective!

@mini – for 5 gambit now, so you just pretty much aim to burst down Deadeye before Quaggan gets you? same strat you port to Deadeye right off the bat?

tbh, i kinda like it post patch, because you do have to watch for when killshot is coming and take reactive or preventive measures. whereas pre-patch, you just mashed buttons. and if he does get a port off, the sense of is my next blind gonna make it make it all the more exciting.. for what it’s worth lol.

i find shield immensely useful in WvW/PvP (heck, even in PvE i can find it useful and fun). plus, hard to beat the sword and shield look. ; )))

i remember seeing a guide using sword/shield here on the forums somewhere. will try to dig it up for you, but definitely useable.

@Kajin – lol, i personally wouldn’t mind the “autowin” bug XDDD maybe it’s sth to do with the coding they introduced last patch? especially with with people killing him too fast.

@Marauding Scum – i was suspecting something like that as well. either that, or when i pop save yourselves, or weapon swap right as i’m about to port in

@Broadicea – you’re absolutely right. 3 Guardians would be perfect i think. i guess i could have guested or tried to join another overflow, but all the other domes were taken up by 3 – 4 other people, and most were doing Liadri. there was also this ranger that kept getting downed at each fight, but lick wounds and they’d repeat 2, 3 times until out of time or he’d winDD lol so was more having fun and lucky enough to find a few doing the same thing i was. just farming what i could. not the most effective but o well.

we had silly fun too – more often than not, we’d all be standing next to the NPC and then once someone started buffing, the other would buff too and then no one gets ported in. we’re like lol dammit.. so we finally thought to party up and figured out the little icon that indicates someone is queued haha

yea, their main complaint was retal was useless in PvE lol. i guess they felt they didn’t need the protection. but yes, great points on WvW keep doors. definitely don’t use hammer on those haha.

Whatever you do, don’t rely on aegis working for Deadeye. It seems completely random whether it blocks his 1 shot attack. I’ve been repeatedly downed while blocking and has resulted in much frustration. Also, since he uses his 1 shot attack immediately when you enter, it makes it extra frustrating to spend 6 tickets and be instantly defeated without even having a chance to react. Or worse, you have reacted and he shoots right through whatever you have up to block his attack.

our blocks aren’t supposed to protect us from his 1hko. : (( only invuln, blinds and evades work. so if you’re going for gambits and taking no dodge, you have to rely on renewed focus and blinds.

a good strategy would be to have sword 2 so you can port to him immediately, blind him and drop Wall of Reflection for his normal shots (though they don’t reflect nearly as much dmg as it used to), and then if he doesn’t use killshot right away, look for the red target under you, him kneeling or the laser pointer at you, then use either focus 4 or F1. F1 is probably your safer bet since it’s instant. and you should survive his 1hko. if he happens to port again, look around for him and use renewed focus if yuo can’t blind him in time if killshot is charging up again.

iirc, it’s a “gambit” – has it’s own icon and doesn’t come in the form of a condition. so i read somewhere (slips my mind where right now) that you’re not technically burning with the “burning” condition. given i haven’t done testing if it actually procs Inner Fire, i can’t be sure but am betting against it. ://

@Chris – have you done this recently? after the latest patch, they “buffed” Deadeye and he aggros from the middle of the room too now, as well as uses killshot at point blank range. and Quaggan aggroes immdiately too now lol XDD

if you happen to not have stability (or well-timed blinds / blocks), Warr hammer will destroy you and completely lock you down. if he happens to have a high DPS buddy, things are gonna be rough.

i don’t play a warr, just been on the receiving end of non stop CC lol. though i will say, i absolutely love the Guardian hammer as well. verastile, high sustain, does great damage. and add in a few CC’s for fun.

yea, as Broadicea said, i save my F1 for if and when i see the first killshot target on me. though i’ve gone back to hitting F1 right away for more vuln and might off the bat. and if you time it right, RIGHT as you see the killshot target on you, use focus 4. you should pull it off on time. and if he does happen to get a port, look for him asap, then sword 2 to him (should be up again) or if you see killshot charging up, use Renewed Focus if you have no other options. this will of course drag on your down time in between fights, but better than not getting your loots. : )) though iw ill note, if he happens to do his little charge up killshot, then port and shoot, focus 4 might not cut it since if he ports far, focus 4 won’t hit or won’t hit in time. so just be careful : ))

last night, i was lucky enough to find 2 other guards and a thief playing deadeye nonstop. so the Guards would coordinate empower so each time, every person would go in with 24 might stacks off the bat. Guards would have full 25 with Save Yourselves and itj ust helps thieves out even more. though it’s not as gauranteed easy win as before as a small timing slip up will allow him to port still. but you should still be able to do it. : ))

one thing thuogh, on a side note, at 5 times, 5 times!! last night after i empowered with another guard, i switch back to sword, yellow text.. fight starting soon.. i get ported in, then i get ported right back out right away. has anyone else experienced this? not sure what was going on.. but that was 25 tickets gone down the drain. :// and it was only happening to me as well.

i’ll agree that it’s not the best feeling in the world when you’re saving up to do something, or, due to whatever circumstances weren’t able to start playing on release day.. and then things get patched. but i don’t think it was an exploit though. players figured out ways to kill him really fast, using in-game mechanics. ANet just didn’t stand for the ability of certain players to be able to “farm” that fast. if it was an exploit, they’d have banned players, and/ or remove Deadeye from the Gauntlet or something. but they’ve just changed him and t he system up a bit. it was strange to me that if you picked crowd favorite, that Quaggan would not aggro at all or the foes would not aggro at all if you just didn’t move. to me, that was an oversight or a bug if anything.

am sure 5 gambits is still doable. don’t tell youself you won’t be able to do it befor eyou step into the ring, cause you’ll just have that story come true and have something, someone else to blame.

people spent time early to get content done, they spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to best do a certain task.. so are you saying they should be punished for doing exactly those things as well?

gave it a shot last night finally (i’ll admit, i’ve been caught up doign deadeye over and over.. XDD), and i must say she is quite tough! looking forward to taking her down as well eventually!

i don’t think it’s an exploit, but can people “exploit” this “easy kill” to farm? sure. which is why, as Vix stated, that ANet only upped the difficulty of Deadeye, and not completely take him out of the game or ban players who were repeatedly farming him. they just changed the so-called “efficiency” of it. there was nothing inherently wrong with Deadye, just that players figured out a way to beat him way faster than ANet intended for us to.

best way is just to experiment, and more importantly, take note of what happened! : )) i learnt a lot through trial and error, intentional or not.

soon enough, you’ll know which moves you need to not move while performing, then you’ll know when you can queue certain moves after others, and also which skills are instant-cast and can be used anytime without fear of interrupting your current moveset.

i’m thinking the same. bring back the previously event only finishers as account unlocks!D i still have some Super Explosive Finishers left over :// oops lol but i definitely would welcome this.

would love to see a comprehensive DPS guide. also agreed that builds shouldn’t be the main topic, but perhaps there can be a sort of appendix for “popular” or “well-known” or “standard” DPS builds where people can start off with.

definitely beneficial for the Guardian class, especially new users. and knowing the mechanics behind the Guard’s DPS i feel can help those who are playing more supportive roles and still put out a lot of damage.

awesome, Chris. : )) had a watch and loved it. really appreciated all the detailed explanations. thsi might just be me, but i like how i felt you could see how you’ve slowly but surely evolved in your gameplay, compared to your first vid. but then again, that might have been because you didn’t get a chacne to get as in depth.

what he meant to say was… they nerfed the Deadeye Dunwell farm, by boosting Deadeye himself. ; ))

just came to mind, and it’s not a huge questions… what about a question regarding combo fields and which ones get triggered for finishers? for example, if an ele lays down a fire field, and then i lay down symbol of protection with hammer, will AoE might trigger or AoE retal trigger? can tie in to the one about boon duration and finishers maybe?

i was once told to change to not use my hammer in a dungeon run a whileeee back cause i was taking might from my group (know that i had empowering might on and staff at that time, but o well) and people started arguing which combo fields take effect.

also, hammer is easily one of our best blast finishers, so we can use hallowed ground and purging flames to stack might, however, what do we do in between blasting? so Guards can safely know when they can auto to get the protection symbol and blast away knowign they will get all the might they need.

and of course, good for being able to blast water fields when needed.

on the side, in a sense, is it weird i think that WvW reward is not over the top like it can be in PvE at times (with regards to CS/FG farm or gauntlet farm) is not a bad thing? or actually it is a good thing. cause those places can get pretty crazy.. and we wouldn’t want that present in WvW would we?

heh, i want to assume at lvl 79, there is no sweet spot to be had. only rough spots! hardy har har. XDDD

i will say though, everyone’s sweet spot in any given situation or in any controlled environment will vary. and mine’s definitely shifted from 16kHP/3K armor to 14kHP/2.5k armor.

and lastly @OP – i can’t speak for other classes, but for the Guardian at least, “tankiness” will not come strictly from raw stats, but rather your ability mitigate damage, to upkeep healing to remain topped up on health, to hinder your opponents from doing damage to you via… your various boons like protection, regen, vigor and using blinds and blocks to you advantage. remain mobile. be on your toes. always know your positioning and what you’re up against. then use the class mechanics, unique skills to help you overcome it all and rule the world. muahahaha/

my one gripe – why are they just chilling in random areas? (for the morale events)
though i guess they’re trying to set up a stronghold or ambush the emissaries or something.

imo, a very stong DPS oriented build. excels with a good group. can be extremely punishing if you’re not used to it. does it work in PvP/WvW? perhaps but you’re going to be pretty squishy.

one note to new Guards or players in general with a new class – always take the time to learn all the skills, what they do in different situations. i always carr at least one of each weapon type with me wherever i go. after checking out various guides find one that you enjoy but there’s never a need to follow it to the T. make your own tweaks and adjustments and own it. cause afterall, you’re the one playing YOUR Guardian. : ))

[added: ultimately, it will really depend on what you want to do with your Guardian! PvE / WvW / PvP? when then can be further broken down into dungeons, fractals, open world bosses, farming, exploring… zerg busting, roaming, havoc squads, commanding… point holdnig, semi-roaming, bursting, team support. the list goes on. i for one can change my build up to a few times every session i sit down and play depending on what i’m doing. i never had ONE build that i stick to lol. a problem in itself but i have a lot of fun with it. so experiment! and fight the good fight.]

Have done 8-orb twice now with the setup from my original post here. 15 kills thus far, including 2 with burning and the 2 8-orbs. Currently working on 10-orb because lol.

real quick on 8 orbs. did you feel the need to use binding blade to get multiple crystals at once (though not entirely sure that works)? or did you just run around one by one and still had enuogh time?

i think starting off, you can try knight’s gear maybe and then slowly phase it out and work your way towards zerker gear. if played right, you can output alot of dmg and still be sustainable. : )) for yoruself and yuor team.

though, i’ve also met some guards who said they started off in full zerker and thus didn’t have a transition period from being “tanky” to learnign to have to dodge a lot and fully mitigate or avoid dmg.

i used to go with tactic 1, but after sword 2, it doesn’t recharge quick enough to catch and blind him after his first port for some reason. i’m assuming he uses Killshot right as he ports?

[added: oh, if we were to do Tactic 2, don’t you not get Humble Victor cause you don’t take Squeamish though?]
