And, yes I am talking about mesmers. People have been complaining about portal=nerfed, people have been complaining about might on shatters=nerfed, people have been complaining about quickness=nerf, people cried their eyes out about confusion in PvE=nerf

However.

Most (if not all) of these ‘changes’ were done on real numbers and facts, and even if they were not done in the most elegant way, the nerfs themselves were reasonable up to an extend.

For whoever’s sake you believe at, don’t and I mean DON’T think that crying about a certain skill/combo/trait etc. will bring about a nerf. It does not work that way, just makes people frustrated.

So, since I am talking about mesmers…. leave our blurred frenzy alone. You don’t see bazillions of mesmers running a sword build, guess why? Because even for the ‘OP’ blurred frenzy, it still lacks in many areas compared to, say, staff. AND it requires a good amount of skill to be used correctly. What, surprised that mesmers are actually a class that requires skill to kill you? More so than some other classes might I add.

Oh, and please can you notice the ‘great number’ of mesmer players in high-end pvp? In hotjoin, of course there are going to be many of them, just because the place is full of people that are not as good in pvp, so they get destroyed. But once you up the scale a little, the number of mesmers drops dramatically, just because it is not an OP class, as was expected by many.

In the recent months mesmer population has been decreasing nerf after nerf. If this carries on, you will have a mesmer-free game. Appealing? Let me rephrase it…. You will have a game that will be filled with other classes that you have to deal with! And some of them will be equally or more annoying than a mesmer.

But of course, any class that requires you to use your brains to fight it is OP…. I do have bad news for you.

Yes, this is a whine thread, and yes I play mesmer ankittenired of waiting for the patch notes to see what part of the profession got destroyed.

Just be reasonable at what you ask. There is always going to be a ‘strongest’ mesmer ability, be it a shatter, a fury-buffed phantasm, a team buff giving field or an invulnerability that also does damage (if the stars align that is)

And guess what? After that it’s going to be things like Phase retreat which do a whole grand of 0 damage and allows a clothie to escape. Who would have thought such an ability is needed?

Stop crying. It is useless.

No matter what build of Mesmer I use and no matter how much I “understand” the mechanic, nothing helps when playing a Mesmer in spvp – I am downed in one and dead in two hits.

Whoever has a Mesmer that can do far more than that is doing magic, I’ve tried so many builds to level 80 I am sure I tried them all that are found on the net at the good (not guide garbage) websites and all suggestions from every forum in this game.

Ranger is easier than Mesner is in spvp, good for me or I’d have nothing at all to play in this game.

well actually everything in pve can be done by just autoattacking…

Only one button can be set to autoattack so I don’t know what the heck you are talking about… we have almost no “control” in this game compared to some and FAR more than others.

That said, we have eight plus a few “f” abilities on some characters, it’s not a lot but a game that isn’t even a year old yet, I think it’s doing very well.

I remember back in the days when WOW was this young… yeah, let’s wait ten years and see where the devs have taken this game, ’cause if the dialog additions and the new dungeons are any hint? We will have this game going a very long time with better and better options unless the devs just flat out just give up caring.

I have played this game for 20 days now and I have a lvl 55 Warrior. Altough I don’t like pvping with him because all the enemies seems to dodge my attacks easy and I really lack of condition removers and escape skills.

So my question to you, what profession should I go for if I want to rock the Mists?

Best spvp if you want to have fun? Ranger.

Best spvp if you want least amount of buttons? Not really sure, but mesmer didn’t do a thing in spvp with any build I used from anyone.

Warrior I found boring.

I am starting a necro AND an engineer – necros are great at support in spvp, amazing one on one and just fun to watch in general, ergo, starting a new toon with two 80s in the paddock and so many deleted I have lost count.

Cheers! Hope you find a profession you do like.

Yeah I’m done with this game for now.
And I seriously have nothing to do with my time but like read or sign up for a swim team or something.

Maybe in a year or two, or if they get a new dev team they will get their kitten together.
I’ve given these guys waaaay too many shots when it comes to PvP.
Shoulda just left this game when my brother and all my friends did.

I hear this from players around the web where I search for ACTIVE builds for Ranger – none of LATE exist – not many are posting to youtube – it seems to be a lost cause – Anet and GuildWars2 hates Rangers.

I find your definition of “nothing” very amusing.

I have yet to find the build that you are using Ursan – or videos of your conquests – the rest of us have serious concerns about the state of the “powerful” Ranger who should be lord of the wilderness but NEVER IS with a pet that has ONE THIRD the power it did BEFORE it was “TAMED”.

We do need a re-tooling – or a re-imagining of what a FANTASY Ranger is supposed to be able to do alone in the wilderness against ANY foe.

I can never fully understand this change. I mean seriously? The last thing we needed in pvp was a horde of Shorbow auto-attack spamming/kiting ranger that spams bleeds and other conditions so fast, even Chuck Norris can’t keep up. Add to that an annoying hard to kill pet which now has improved HP and toughness and improved abilities that follows you like a twitter fanboy.

After the massive hit on eles, expect rangers to be dominating every match. Mark my words.

I’m no QQer but for the love of God, why the buff on pets?!?! Buff on spirits, yeah they sure needed it. But pets?! They needed to be toned down actually.

Guess we who must roam alone (and that is MANY of us who don’t have close-knit friends who play this darned game!) may have a chance out there, FINALLY.

So what? You will actually have to have a friend to take down a lowly Ranger – or pay the price – BOUT TIME ANET AND GOOD ON YOU!!!

Why is there no GvG in "Guildwars"?

With a title such as Guildwars, it would seem obvious to include battles between guilds. I’ve yet to understand why one of the most popular game modes in GW was cut from the second game. I have heard that there would be issues with the current combat system working for a GvG type match. That does not however imply that game content should be excluded, rather, it implies that there is a flaw in the battle system itself. I believe that GvG could be possible so long as the format of the battle was altered, as well as addition of skills for both weapon and utility slots to allow for more variety in combat.
In the first Guildwars, there was the flag capturing objective which was generally located in the center of the main battlefield which was used to increase the moral of a team. However, one objective would not be practical in Guildwars 2 because that would result in one large brawl at the center of the map and would likely be the determining factor for the match, unless perhaps it was a close fight between the two opposing teams. Instead there should be a blend of objectives. The ones that are present in the pvp arenas as of now are great examples: a flag stand (from the original Guildwars), capturable points, slaying certain NPC’s, the presence of a guild lord, and so on. These could be blended into a single game type on a fairly large arena, preferably set in Guild Halls (another part of the original Guildwars that should have been passed down to the second game), which would allow for more strategy within the game type.
I’ll now briefly touch on the battle system that is present in Guildwars 2 which is, more than anything else, responsible for GvG’s incompatibility with GW2. From what I can tell, the complication comes from two parts of the battle system: the lack of a support class and the lack of diversity that comes from the pre-set weapon skills and small amount of utility skills given to each class.
I believe that each problem has the same solution; by simply adding a wider variety of both attack and support skills for each class and allowing players to construct “builds” in addition to the current ability to alter their traits, the problem of support classes and diversity could be solved. It is understood that Arena Net chose to make Guildwars 2 the way they had so that it would be a more playable game for everyone, however this only allows limited diversity between characters and makes it more difficult to separate a good player from a more exceptional one. Providing more freedom to the classes and how their skills are set could only benefit the community of Guildwars. As of now, the only way to truly support an ally is to either attack those who are attacking them, or to cast an area of effect skill in their vicinity, such as a shout or a field spell. There are very few skills that can be directly cast on an ally to aid them in a fight. This is a problem in competitive play, and really doesn’t allow teammates to work optimally with one another which takes away from the overall pvp experience.
Currently there is a not a particularly broad choice of player vs. player game types, and there are now even fewer due to the removal of Paid Tournaments. The addition of Guild vs. Guild would be an update that has been much awaited for, and appreciated by a vast majority of pvp regulars. The only way for GvG to be a conceivable player vs. player game type is to create both a setting and battle system that allows for greater strategic planning than is currently available in GW2. Guild vs. Guild was never simply a fight between two guilds; it was a battle of skill, and even more strategy, which ultimately was the reason for its success as a competitive game type, and is more than an adequate reason for reapplying it to Guildwars 2.

Well I understand the OP point because bunker warriors are really crappy to play overall. Their condition system is about as crappy as a thief since they have nothing passively to remove it off let alone cool down utilities. I rather have a guardian or elementalist to take healing regen job than a warrior because lets face it. Warriors profession is not compatible in the pvp field especially as a bunker and their burst heals are horrifically disgusting . It’s actually funny to see one in action and sure they can probably beat a few professions such like wars and thief only, but that’s their potential.

How often do you see a bunker healing warrior participate in pvp anyway or in pve? Not many at all cause it is mundane to play one lols.

I don’t know why you think that your last statement was funny in the least.

Before the patch it said on the tooltip for compassionate banner depending on your healing power to heal for 4k when you use it. However the tooltip was bugged and it only heal for 900hp.

After the patch the tooltip for compassionate banner was changed to the bugged data that heals for 900hp. I am confused why the tooltip change to 900hp heal instead of corrected healing for 4k hp.

I play a bunker regen warrior and even though they can only do, but so much in competitive pvp / pve. Having compassionate banner healing for 900hp instead of the actual tooltip that was displayed for more than 5months is really upsetting and absurd. I can’t keep my teammates up and myself using a heal like that in tight situations.

Roll a different profession some may say? In that case don’t make anything for a regen warrior at all like get rid of the healing power stat in banner of tactics skill and replace it with condition duration so that compassionate banner can add more conditions on to a player / npc.

I understand the devs are always busy with their stuff, but if they actually take the time studying every possibility profession build in the game. I’m sure the game would be a lot better than waiting every month for more disappointments each patch note that are displayed for professions.

So many of us play the game to help others – true healers and we are being ignored – your point is well taken by me as a frustrated wanna-be-healer in this game.

We were told “new builds otw” months ago now…

I’m tired expecting each patch and saying to myself (ye, i speak to myself, don’t hate) “this patch will be it, this patch will be the new viable builds being released”…….

Only to get slapped in the face with major nerfs and 1 or 2 very minor buffs with NO new builds being made available.

I am tired of waiting arena net…

Just put us out our misery you created.

(Yes, I know the patch hasn’t hit yet….but either way it isn’t looking too bright)

Sorry for this post, I just wanted to get this off my chest, I’m tired expecting buffs and getting nerfed instead, tired of other classes being the best class in the game, tired of lopsided balance and tired of looking at the class manifesto hoping for it to be true.

Not only tired, but numbed out, emotionally drained, and just plain BURNED out.

I have two mains, one Ranger who has been waiting for “balance” against everyone EXCEPT eles (ridiculous) and a mesmer who is taken apart in two seconds in every single spvp match I manage to talk myself into, disappointingly again and again – at least my Ranger wins SOME fights, mesmer ZERO.

Burned out is what we are…

I believe that end game is the reason that many of us are about to jump into new MMOs or even back to our old ones even on part time basis since we are so tired of listening to the (seeming) lies that we are being fed month after long month while we wait interminably for the next patch that – mostly – will be seen by the majority of players as a wasted hope – again.

We are tired.

But we are also burned out waiting for the truth – and that truth is that Arenanet doesn’t care about end game…WvW and PvP are suffering and individual profs are dying for major retooling – how long do we wait and when will the truth be told from the beginning so we can stop being burned out?

Fix the characters.

Then fix the rest.

I can’t quote statistics or game mechanics… I am literally one of the most clueless people as far as the game intellectually, but pvp wise? I am a good player, not GREAT but GOOD.

Until very lately I have been able to down any player 1v1 with my Ranger – traited properly as much as anyone can without math skills, I have a pretty darn good record for winning spvp overall.

Eles AND Engineers are both downing me in one to two shots without me being able to mitigate, block or stun with any of my “oh crap” buttons.

No break stuns are working against some players since the last patch and a 3/4 life damage isn’t once in a while any longer.

Other things in spvp need to be fixed before moving on to the real tournaments that everyone wants, and the balance between players, the small health pool (!) and the lack of some mechanics working everywhere BUT spvp — THESE and others are things that demand attention and respect from the devs.

My mesmer doesn’t have a chance in spvp – I can’t figure that one out yet…

WOW is nothing like GW2 in more ways that matter – yes their pvp is better which is WHY the changes are being announced.

That said, esport (and individual accomplisments alone driven) is the next level that this game needs to go to to survive long term.

So, just a few minutes ago I had this guy in my team. The game before he was with us also, and tbh he was quite a terrible player.

Last game, he stated he would be afk so we would loose. He was writing stuff in mapchat, dancing at spawnpoint and not taking action until the game was already lost for us. Anything I can do about it? Report maybe?

My account has been told [If you make a report that turns out not to be true… you will be a “troublemaker”] and my account can be banned for reporting these people…

I never have, never will report a player who is playing (!)

Why MY account has been tagged – hmmm, adult seeing that someone stands for 1 or more games and does nothing while your team loses – we condemn the responsible ones.

So just be aware that they don’t care about those who are doing the damage, but they are doing pretty darn well at protecting those who cheat.

Is Illusionary Leap bugged?

It seems two huge, serious bugs:
1)The most annoying,upon casting IL the illusion will start jumping ,then stop in the middle (looks like it stumbles on my asura),never reaching the target.
After a brief moment it will start chasing the target normally (as if it’s a about to be shattered)
2)The skill doesn’t work when the opponent is in a higher place than you.
For example, take Battle of Kyhlo map (pvp).
Theres the wood ledge that takes you to the windows of the clock tower.
Every time i cast IL when an opponent stands on that ledge the illusion will run underneath it…lol.

Yes, I agree with your observations AND I will ADD to this that many of the phantasms in pvp aren’t working, period.

Are you getting that Anet? MANY of the skills we pop in pvp as mesmers aren’t popping into their stated skills – clones as well as phantasms – please fix pvp, pretty pretty please.

Leveling a new Mesmer to try it out, I do quite like the class but the clone mechanic seems really odd. Mostly how fast they vanish, I imagine it’s partly because I’m low level but my clones seen to poof if sneezed on. Even if I make sure to have beaten on a mob several times before using a Phantasm skill they will still often go right for after its first attack and nearly insta-gib it. This leaves me running in circles with 1-3 clones doing very little to actually keep me alive and seem to serve no purpose beyond shatter fodder.

I see there are many skills to increase their health later on, so maybe this gets better but my biggest gripe with clones is really the fact they vanish as soon as my current target dies. I can understand them poofing after combat ends but seeing them vanish when I’m still fighting mobs and still in danger feels really weak.

It just seems very.. clunky, even more so when Phantasms do the same thing.

I am a level 68 and my clones STILL don’t do more than 5-8 (some are still at zero) damage.

I don’t know what’s going on with clones but apparently something is wrong…

Mesmers aren’t easy to play and they aren’t OP, they are by far the hardest to play class.

Hardly. They’re pretty easy to play, actually. Easiest? Definitely not. Hardest? Not without a stretch. High skill cap != hard to play. There’s a lot of ins-and-outs with mesmers (as with every profession), but that doesn’t make them harder to play because they’re still very effective 1v1 and group settings without knowing these tips and tricks.

I totally disagree with you, they are not easy to play… Not the hardest either, I’d put that in the Thief category… but easy? No freaking way.

I feel your pain. It does seem like other classes want all our core mechanics gone from the game. They hate portals, they hate shatters, they hate phantoms, they hate confusion, they hate everything we do. The reason for this is that Mesmers are hard to predict. We’re not OP, just bewildering to other players. More then any other class, how we trait completely alters our gameplay. A Shatter Cat verses Chaos Maestro verses Confusion build are all so different. You really don’t know what you’re getting with a Mesmer until mid-fight. Are we burst dam? Are we condition? Are we tanking? What was that weird thing we just did where we disappeared, then turned you into a moa? Other classes hate to be startled. They hate learning other classes skills and would just prefer to make us so weak, we’re ineffectual. I for one love this class and hope that Anet supports and protects the integrity of our odd, beautiful pink butterflies.

I like that you have said that we are not OP but rather than we are BEWILDERING to other players with our diversity of attacks… anything less and we would NOT be mesmers.

Does the FAQ stop people from dodging a loss of rank by alt + f4’ing out of the match before they lose?

They still take a loss, as well as a rating hit.

I see people leaving several times out of tourneys as well as out of regular spvp (much much worse) but the fact that we don’t have access to 1v1 dueling and THAT kind of real skill on skill leaderboard is backwards from every other MMO that has a successful tournament system.

The ability to bounce out of a losing game is a plus for some

I think they should just suck it up. A losing game won’t last forever. Punish leavers in the same way that GW1 did.

I agree, no punishment at all is making this a mockery of the leaderboards.

As it is it should be on individual skills not on points won through “team” games that you can leave.

No 1v1 equals a broken pvp period.

I saw this on the GW2 Reddit and I must say that I am extremely happy with this bug. Not just for the laurels, but because I actually got to enjoy some tPvP with my WvW guild buddies.

I was trying to prove to my son that the game wasn’t completely dead – he’s 27 and won’t play again until spvp is fixed – he’s good… very very good and this game is an insult to some players with no 1v1 matches to really prove who is the “best”.

Going on points, not getting laurels, not getting anything in pvp is over for me too, I’ve even bought another game – and I never though that would happen while I still played this game – I can’t sit through this over and over and over even when winning and get absolutely nothing.

I am doing this game for physical therapy (hands don’t work well, severe pain, etc) and for the mental stimulation that my brain needs (really).

Thanks for the game Anet but you’ve dropped the ball badly on this game as far as pvp all the way around from this very important issue as well as the rest of the issues such as the health pool being amazingly small in spvp/tourney…

If you put all the issues together from all the players I wonder where spvp/tourney stacks up as an issue that players are universally not happy with if you ask them… and Anet doesn’t ask – nor do any of them seem to care.

Pets forget how to pet around thieves

Well, basically when i’m dueling a thief that goes into stealth a lot, like p/d thieves, my pet stops anything he was doing and becomes kitten
He literally won’t attack anyone and will react maybe when i’m downed already.

Anyone else have this?

[Guide] Overpowered PvP Phantasm Build

@wookie: I think you misunderstand how I designed this build to be played, and additionally why I take the scepter and sword over the greatsword, for example. This build relies purely on the phantasms for damage, and on everything else for defense. Using skills like blurred frenzy for offense reduces your defense. The point of the trait setup and gear is that you don’t need to augment the damage from your phantasms. They are enough to tear apart any build in the game in short order.

Due to the fact that your phantasms are enough dps to handle any build, you have the luxury of utilizing all of your other skills for defense.

I am trying the build now and getting torn to shreds in spvp…

Reward me for Defending - Being a Team Player

Has there been any discussion, thought or response on this subject? A search didn’t bring up much for me.

Is there any chance that we will start to see points given for staying in a node and defending it (like a slow ticking up of points where 2 straight minutes of defending is about equivalent to capturing 1 node?)

The current system doesn’t reward defensive play at all, which is one of the reasons Pugs have such a hard time – they all want to fly from Node to Node to get max glory for themselves and be high up on the leaderboard at the end of the game.

It would also encourage people to fight on the points more often, which solves another problem that I know frustrates people – when people fight off node.

Curious to hear the community thoughts.

Since defending a base is the bread and butter of any WIN, I agree, the longer you keep two bases, the more likely it is you will win on most maps – so not having the defender rewarded for NOT running with the zergers is just illogical. – I defend many points as a Ranger (underwater mostly) and I am sad to say I lose a lot of points because I refuse to give up the base.

Right now what the heck are we doing if we never get attacked – we can’t see them on the map and many people WILL NOT communicate in pvp or tpvp – sitting through a game successfully if boringly is not easy – I want to hit things too but winning for the team seems far more important to me – kinda like being the orb carrier… when I do make it to a held base I feel like I did something more than zerging a single player… they are going for me and I have to make it to a base alone most of the time – that is fun – but being the lonely person who does THE| RI|GHT THING? Wow… what are we telling others about us here and what we really believe…?

We should be better than the other games – we’re supposed to be saving a world and yet we have a dishonorable system that doesn’t reward even as little as would be in the “real world” – we’d all get medals for being so relentless in our base guarding in real life…

Lack of features and infrastructure has been its undoing since day one, not balance.

I agree with this. My impression was always that between dodging and superior awareness/experience the better players tend to win. Of course this doesn’t apply when 10 good players are in the same match, but I’d imagine everyone with the aforementioned perception of balance hasn’t had too much / any experience with high tier premade vs high tier premade – let’s be honest, there aren’t that many high tier players.

That said, it’s obvious that pve and wvw considerations for pvp don’t make sense. The master nerd pvers still run 4 warriors and one guardian for their dungeon farms, does this mean that warriors will be nerfed further? Let’s hope not.

If nothing else, numbers can be changed for pvp only. Wvw already has consumables + ascended items which results in far greater stats than pvp already, so it really doesn’t make a difference. Maybe that approach doesn’t work for everything, but reducing things here and there can be bandaids for balance until they decide they’ve found a good rework. What would the big deal be in making frenzy deal slightly less damage and 100b casting slightly faster in pvp? Nobody would notice.

I believe you are as correct as the people who are speaking in favor of the splitting of wvw from pvp/tvp – there are even more issues but we have to tackle this elephant one bite at a time… right?

I think so. Start a thread – your issue is another that needs attention – it’s one of several that are competing for all of our attention when we are in the game…

Not sure if anyone else is seeing this but almost every single game, the losing team seems to lose half there team so they don’t take rank hit…

This is going to unbalance the leaderboard in a big way…

Anet please make it so if you leave the game you get a loss or players will abuse it over and over.

There will be people with 100% wins.

The ability to bounce out of a losing game is a plus for some, but a real pain for the rest who are still in that spvp instance…

So what’s the fix? Suggestions rather than just pointing out a flaw would be nice…

No it’s definitely a street fighter game without the 1v1 aspect fully in play…

Without the ability to go one on one – spvp IS TOTALLY a street fighting, gang-up on and beat up ’til dead, proposition.

1v1 and raising health pools in spvp… rank vs gangs…

So you guys know, we already split some skills. And, what’s most pertinent to the current thread, we plan to do this even more.

When we first shipped, it was awesome to have a lot of the balance be the same between PvE/WvW/PvP. But, as you guys have really started to push the game types to their limits, classes and specs that work in one areas of the game are sometimes ineffectual in others.

Due to this, we’ll have to do more splitting of skills to better balance the various areas of the game.

TL:DR – We already do this, and we’ll be using it even more in order to balance the different areas of the game effectively.

Still not getting the message… the health pools are FAR too small in spvp…

As Allie said, we want to be careful to balance their WvW/PvE potential against their PvP potential, and then inside of PvP, we have to be careful to watch how they perform at high ranks vs. low ranks.

This is a scary idea that I’ve heard bounced around quite a bit from the devs. To be perfectly blunt, it’s also a pretty stupid idea.

To say that PvP and PvE/WvW are different is a complete understatement. The goals, gearing and playerbase are so vastly different that to balance 8 classes around both sides of the mists is impossible. It cannot be repeated enough. BALANCING AROUND BOTH PVP AND PVE IS IMPOSSIBLE, WE WILL NEVER BE SATISFIED IF YOU CONTINUE THIS TREND!

Take for example, gearing. In WvW I can get a ridiculous 120% crit damage with full zerkers and two ascended rings. That’s not even the max you can get. That is quite literally double the amount of crit damage I’m able to get in the mists. In addition, with runes of altruism, I can maintain 20-25 stacks of might to get a ridiculous 3400 power, 120% crit damage and 65% crit. Are you kittening kidding me? How are you going to balance around THAT when I can only get 3k power and 30% crit damage and 50% crit in my glassiest build in the mists. It literally hits half as hard.

Those are hard numbers. It’s also only one of the very many differences that the devs seem oblivious of. The least of which is how completely rabid the playerbase of PvP is in comparison to the lackadaisical semi-casuals in PvE (not to seem insulting, I know that PvE has its hardcore players as well, there are just a relatively low proportion of them in comparison to PvP)

One of the largest differences lies in the fact that the needs of PvP balance are far different than the needs of PvE balance. In PvP, winning revolves around time. How quickly one person moves from one point to the next is, in my opinion, THE factor that makes eles overpowered in the current meta because no other class is able to fill that roll. Speed and time are huge factors that don’t exist as major balance issues in PvE, so how do you balance both? You also have to deal with the fact that this is an attrition based game with each individual player dealing with their own health pool and rarely with that of their team. You do not whittle down a boss mob like you do another set of 5 players. To balance around both ideas just boggles the mind.

Balance indifference’s will never bother a PvE’er as much as a PvP’er. A PvP player is always trying to win at the cost of another players loss. That’s the definition of PvP. When a PvPer loses to another player running what he considers imbalanced it is far more stress inducing than when a PvE’er notices that class Y does more damage and stays alive longer than him. It is continually rubbed in the face of the PvPer watching his team get destroyed by what he perceives as imbalance and therefore requires a more sensitive and frequent approach. While I’m not touting the much talked about whack-a-mole method, I’m pointing out that inaction in the field of balance will kitten off the PvPer much, MUCH more than the PvEer.

TL;DR The reason why people are so kitten off about balance in PvP, the reason why hoards of loyal players quit, who repeatedly say guild wars has one of the best combat systems in any mmo, and cite balance issues, the reason why you’ll never, ever, ever ever ever ever ever ever EVER have a thriving PvP game is because of your inane insistence that PvE and PvP MUST be the same.

The simple reality is that they are not the same.

My take has been the same from the beginning…

The health pool for pvp is wrong – so very wrong.

When you are going against a player, all should have to work to kill another player, but some of us are just going down under one single hit and being “downed” rather than getting any chance to use real skills – judgement calls on which skill to use rather than just mashing keys and hoping the warrior or guardian or thief doesn’t down you before you can get a skill off.

spvp health pools are wrong – always have been – raise the pvp health pools.

I find it sad that people all over this game are making others more than uncomfortable with their use of slurs – more than trolls, these people go on and on about the state of the instance they are in (spvp and tourney more than WvW or pvE) about how bad one or more players are doing.

Then you have those who stand around in spvp/tourney games and when you report them – and doing so because someone has been standing there MUCH longer than a “bio break” – one is WARNED in the game that your account could be banned because you are doing what is supposed to be done… reporting those who don’t play.

Unlike other games, this one doesn’t give more than just the option to “block” those who are abusive, but when they are in the instance or pvp game you are in, it’s harder to impossible to ignore the player (there’s always “say” if you block them directly and they are close enough for you to view their text…)

This game needs more protection from those who are here not just to complain, but to disrupt by words or by inaction.

My “gaming” is more physical therapy than anything else – and for those who aren’t disabled and trying to keep hands working and minds less than dull, it is a hard thing day after day to try to keep up ; we don’t need the added stress of those who are abusive heaped on top of what is already a challenging “thing” to do for many.


Ok so can somone enlighten me on this? I never really understood the elitist perspective.

My RL friends who never really play sPvP all that much decided it’d be fun to jump into some hot joins. I hot join and they join my game inprogress.

having a few decent looking skins from paids since they have occasionaly jumped in and got a daily with a tpvp ticket earlier in the year they don’t look like tottal scrubs, thanks to the ticket = chests.

Every so often we run into some jerk who just calls one of us (even me at times) a noob on death, even if it was a 3v1 kind of gank or a hard counter to our current build. Also often told at times to l2p or uninstall, and they get discouraged by this behavior and have no real mentality to nurture their pvp abillity and makes them want to PvE for life.

Now I can handle such things better, like focusing them and not giving them any repreave, and if they do happen to be genuinely better I take it as a learning experiance, I watch for things I need to try to wait out counter or doge in the future and grow as a player.

My friends on the other hand don’t have the same mentality atleast for this.

I never really understood the mentality for this. I myself do get a sick pleasure from “pwning zee nuuubs” since at times I’ll face roll a baddie without even trying and yeah hes genuenly bad, and yeah it did feel kinda good… But usually my first reaction to that is “good fight” and usually meet their own discouragment if they have any like “hahaha I suck” with my own reply of “you’ll get better.” occasionally I’ll add a tip to help them beat me.

But the discouragment aside. The fallacy I see is that.

“L2P or Get on my level” = Well if someone is playin the game to begin with and you obviously play it more or are more talented isn’t said person playing the game in itself trying to learn? (I get “L2P” when someone cries “OP!” when somthing is clearly not.)

“uninstall” = So… someone is not as good as you therefor they should uninstall and not play the game and give up on trying to become better?

and back to the discouragement side of things:

“ur bad, ur trash, noob” = a basic stated fact the player is obviously attempting to over come, and is frankly rude and discouraging to low level of play.

Are all these people just trolls looking for a reaction? or are they serious? Either way I don’t think it’s healthy to build a pvp community espeshally a dwindling one.

I guess other than trolls who will always stay small, you’d think an elitist would want to make it to a higher tier of play. There was a situation a while back where a top player in LoL was being a jerk to a lot of people, and he got kicked out because Riot didn’t want someone like that representing their game, and no one would want to keep sponsering someone like that for streams unless they got an ungodly amount of views. Wouldn’t Arena-net most likely considering their rules take a simular perspective to this, thus being an kitten = go no where? I mean as far as I can tell our current top teams don’t seem to be all that stuck up, then again they probubly don’t care about the lower tier, but shouldn’t that be an example?

Anyways. Thoughts and Comments?

[Guide] PvE Supporting Phantasm Build

This build is designed primarily for PvE, although I suppose you could use it in PvP to limited effect as well.

My armor is all berserkers stats. My weapons are all soldiers (Power/tough/vit) stats. I use an ascended soldiers backpiece, and exotic berskers earrings and amulet. I have 1 soldiers stat ascended ring, and 1 berserkers stat ascended ring. The runes in my armor are centaur right now, but I feel like runes of air would be a better choice.

My normal utilities are blink/feedback, mantra of pain, and decoy.

My trait distribution is 10/10/0/30/20, focusing almost exclusively on phantasm buffing traits.
I take domination III, for 15% increased phantasm damage.
Dueling II, to give phantasms fury.
Inspiration IV, for condition removal on healing, V for increased phantasm health, and X to cause mantras to do an aoe heal on the charge.
Illusions III for 3% extra damage per illusion, and X for 20% faster phantasm skill usages.

With this build, I have slightly over 20k hp, 2200 power, 32% base crit chance, 54% crit power, and slightly over 2k armor.

This build is based around doing damage via phantasms, and then supporting your team with the aoe regeneration from your phantasms, and the aoe healing from mantras. With all the % damage boosts to your phantasms, they will do pretty massive damage. Berserker hits usually range from between 2k to 5k, with occasional hits of above 8k (I still don’t know why those happen). The warlock will hit for around 2k noncrit, up to 8k crits on a larger boss that has 5-6 conditions on it, with my highest recorded hit being over 14k on the priest of grenth.

Once you have a few phantasms up doing damage, you can turn your focus to healing your team. Every 4 seconds or so, you can complete a charge of mantra of pain, doing an aoe heal for about 2600-2700 hp. By spamming mantra of pain, you can usually keep any decent team at or close to full hp, while not suffering significantly from damage yourself due to your phantasms being the main source of your damage.

Where this build really shines, however, is in the potential utility it can change to. In situations where projectile reflects are necessary, such as the harpy fractal, I will take off the greatsword and put on a sword and focus. You can drop the phantasm hp trait to trait the focus, and drop the condition removal on healing trait to decrease glamour recharges by 20%. With the focus skills and feedback, you become a neverending stream of projectile reflection.
At places like lupicus, you can change the glamour cooldown trait for the feedback bubble upon reviving trait.
In situations of high conditions, you can take phantasmal disenchanter, and even Inspiration XI for more condition removal.

While sacrificing the staff cooldowns, greatsword cooldowns, and deceptive evasion by only going 10 points into domination and dueling, this build picks up a massive amount of utility with the 30 points into inspiration allowing you to modify your build and trait setup to suit any possible situation.

Leveling

This build can easily be adapted as a leveling build. The playstyle remains the same no matter what level you are. The traits should start with 5 points in illusions, then 10 in domination, 10 in dueling, 20 into inspiration, 5 more into illusions, 5 into inspiration, 10 into illusions, and lastly 5 more into inspiration.

I use this build in any dungeons, any level fractals, and any other PvE situations, although I wouldn’t recommend it for mob tagging during DEs in orr. It is a substandard PvP build for a lot of reasons, but as long as you stay with PvE, this build will get you through almost any conceivable problem.

Best and worst classes for WvW

I am surprised that ppl don’t like ranger, but like guardian so much. In small groups, I think rangers are really good. A good (bow) ranger knows how to maintain distance between his foe, and all the stuns are great against those guys that keep jumping around. Also good for defending position, towers, keeps.

Regarding guardian, I have had success in the past, but recently I’ve been struggling. Primarily because I’m in the front lines and as soon as a zerg (of equal or greater size) comes along players run back. I put faith that they will back me up, but I end up by myself being stunned x10 and overwhelmed while everybody runs away. I’m trying out new things and builds at the moment.

The last profession I have experience playing as is Elementist. They are good, but I have not played much WvW as ele compared to ranger and guardian, so I can’t add much to what has already been said.

But Mesmer- I still fear them because of this one guy. After my guild group of five took out 2 of the 3 opponents, this Mesmer was able to keep himself alive, and wiped out the five of us one by one(1 commander, 3 experienced players, 1 inexperienced wvw player). Mesmer definitely have the most potential.

My question to you is, who was the mesmer – I want lessons lol!

Super DPS ranger has insane damage considered the speed he shoots. There is no way tu surviveif you are low armor.
Why?

  • They start shooting from very far. Beffor you actually strike you already lost 20-30-50%hp. When you comming close they will move back so it will take even more time for you to make a attack.
  • When you getting closer they put traps to slow you down.
  • They force you to use all uttilities, beffor even you start the commbat, whit that I mean you actually reach them.
    *In stealth theyr PET and ARROWS will still HIT YOU.
    *If you even try to kill the pet, you will die beffor even reaching the pet’s death.
  • If you engaging with long rage skills.. they can hide behind cover and use traps when you gettign closser.
  • The ammount of damage they can do is incredible considerated the speed of attacks + deffense against close enemies + abbility to get out of range of attacks of an close range enemy.
  • Practicly you are forced to use the heal skill beffor you even made an first attack.
    - the ton of conditions and evades… make it really really hard to fight them. Especcialy with light armor.
  • Do not forget about all quickness they can have! and swiftness.

Do not forget about bunker rangers…. Is practicly inpossible to kill them…. As I sed… If you focus on pet you are dead preaty fast, considered the highamount of defense and attacks of pets and skills.!!

As a totally non trap Ranger, I didn’t have any luck killing anyone lately with them so I don’t use them.

I have issues believing that they are that hard for any player to get around, the skills on all sides shred Ranger.

I have spent a lot of time pvping, am rank 49 and i was from your math teacher guild in GW1, yeah the iway noobs…

i demand an answer for the questions below, because am thinking of quitting the game for good because the game is getting really stale. and you are 100% turned a deaf ear for all thousands of players who played the game.

Absolutely one of the most constructive postings in months.

I started a mesmer (yep, my main is….you guessed it a Ranger) and we don’t have enough points (as players) in spvp no where NEAR enough points as players – it’s over too fast and the lockouts are incorrect for “pvp”.

We need serious changes before a mass exit such as has been seen in many MMOs when the devs refuse to listen, or in this case, tell us one thing and deliver another , over and over – month after month.

End game is why most of us are here – and the “end game” on a simple $20 game is pulling players left and right – and it’s not even an MMO, but it does have end game content that is as good as its previous iterations.

All we are asking is that you pay attention to the end game – spvp and WvW have sadly been given a shove into the back seat and we see the ‘events’ month after month as our hopes are shattered each and every month – that does damage to the psyche of game players – game fatigue follows then we find another MMO that WILL do what is promised.

We aren’t asking for that much – it’s in the interest of the game and the players that we are asking for these necessary and long awaited changes.

Oh and tonight – in spvp my default keybinds 1-0 kept going “away” and I couldn’t hit a single one…

The game is losing its integrity – please bring it back to us as it was promised, not as it is now.

We all adore the game, but the end game and the state of the pvp at all is just not as good as GW1 from every single player whom I’ve talked to – and they bemoan the change all the time.

Most *Useful* Build/Set-up

in Ranger

Hi guys,

Just a quick question about weapon setups and traits. We all know the ranger is pretty shocking atm and isn’t the most desirable class to have in a party doing dungeon runs so I’m just wondering which build is currently the most useful* for PVE co-operative play.

(I’m currently level 80 and using a glass cannon build with LB and SB as weapons).

Thanks in advance for your help.

*Not necessarily the most damaging.

Sword/dagger and either shortbow or longbow ( I am trying to transisition to SB) seems to be the strongest/best combinations to win fights.
