Agreed that it’s a problem, but while skyhammer is part of rated play, it is a part of the meta. That means that ‘troll’ builds aren’t just good for being annoying/cheesy, they are hands down the best way to compete on that map.
Don’t get me wrong, I hate the idea of lowering myself to using knockback trash play too, there’s definitely a place for playing like that, but that place is Mario party, not guild wars. I want pure, cheeseless pvp, but what is the point of playing by ‘pure pvp’ rules when nobody else is and they are doing much better because of it.

I’d play some hotjoin before going to tournaments just to get the feel of things first. In a tourney as soon as people realize who the ‘weak links’ are, you might as well be wearing a stomp me sign.
That plus the super fast pace of tournies can make it hard to learn what other classes are doing, unless you are already familiar with other classes abilities/mechanics things can be over too quickly to understand what’s going on. At least that’s how I felt at first, back when thieves were running the ever-fantastic backstab builds at launch

You craft a pvp version called “runic blade” that will, in some indefinite amount of time become pve gear along with all other gear you have in the hom. It looks identical to infinite light, and the only reason infinite light is so sought after is for its looks, so it is irrelephant whether or not runic blades become “legit” infinite lights when the gear merge happens
How does one go about crafting the Runic Blade?
Phoenix token/arcane crystal/sword token/5x dust into the pvp mystic forge.
Bare in mind that this is also a critical craft recipe and you will likely go through a few frozen swords to get there. Get the phoenix tokens from salvaging tier 2 cultural armour
Do something to the necro heal, anything, put down all your ideas onto post-its and throw darts at the board, just choose something better than the garbage that we have atm.

The mesmer heal while seeming cool the HPS (health per second) will still not be as much as a 3 clone EF or a traited mantra heal however put them together. It may be something crazy
It really only has to compete with EF. Mantras are just outshined in every way atm, mainly because;
-non-viable without traits
-traits aren’t worth investing in if you are only using 1 mantra
-using anything more than 1 mantra will kill your damage output by too much and give your opponent way too much breathing room
So yeah, mantras are catch 22; trash without heavy investment, trash with heavy investment.
Shatter specs might still want EF for the spike heal but tankier phantasm/PU builds are gonna be all over that signet
Maybe if they split the skill between staff/scepter using the current terrible form as ranged options, and gave axe/dagger a higher siphon effect for being melee/pseudo melee, that would be cool.
Dagger + axe having the damage passive effect would also solve a big problem facing powers necros; they get trained hard and don’t take it well.

^ agree, this isn’t an MOBA, I love the combat here, it feels more like I am the guy doing every swing. I find MOBA combat extremely boring, you spend most of your time not acting. I know some people love that sit back and strategize approach, but it’s not for me, I love the direction GW2 took
Making it work while in Deathshroud would be a very good balance for it’s current form, and could finally bring some power builds using shroud to the pvp scene

If it does turn out to be clones and phantasms that that’s sad in many ways, mostly because running on Phantasms would create a lot of decision play. That and the fact that running from clones and phantasms is going to be way OP, especially for PU [which is already cheesy enough].

If the numbers I’m reading are correct, the Mesmer heal sounds pretty OP.
I know that the tooltips in Mesmer traits often overlap terms like clones/phantasms/illusions, but I\m going to go ahead and assume that the tooltip on this skill is as accurate as it is meant to be; stating that only PHANTASMS count towards the healing, clones will not.
That means that most of the time you will be receiving the 1 phantasm regen rate, 2 if you are lucky, 3 almost never, the skill also lacks an interval rate; those numbers could be for every 3 seconds, not one second like warrior heal
I cefinitely don’t want to see rank removed in any way shape or form. I agree that we definitely need ladder progression, and I definitely agree that rank mean ‘nothing’ at the minute – but that NOTHING is all we’ve had to work with in pvp for over a year with zero incentive [some of the best looking gear can be earned at rank 1 walking into solo que], people have been earning ranks just from shudder enjoying pvp and playing it a lot.
DO NOT take that away from us, move things forward yes but don’t delete our progress up to now.
I don’t really find that Mesmer spec OP or cheap at all, both shatter and phantasm are pretty well balanced [to me], PU/condition on the other hand, that’s some cheap kitten
Yeah the ‘sustained dps’ thing doesn’t sit with me tbh, auto attack chain is more sustained damage than sword3, sword 3 should be about; burst, blocking projectiles and hitting at range, and it’s incredibly awkward to do any of those things atm with how clunky the aiming and casting is.

It’s a shame, all the right stuff is in place for some awesome pvp [aside from new modes] it just didn’t take off in the right way. Like custom servers, people only use them for either 1v1s or dueling their friends privately, I was expecting waves of 3v3s, deathmatches, timed rush matches, anything that would take away the necessity for stacking cheese builds and encourage diversity by changing up the goal. It just didn’t happen.
Does anyone else feel the same? I am noticing it most in pvp when I desperately need the blind from focus4 or the projectile block from sword 3, they are incredibly awkward to start casting and feel like you’re trying to turn a rusty crane. That and the fact that 90% of sword 3 hits just seem to not connect with their target. It’s a cool combo but imo this stuff needs fine tuning

as for why i enjoy anet’s public 8 vs 8 hotjoin servers:
- hotjoin, can drop in and drop out anytime
- 8 vs 8, battles are easily found
- win or lose does not really matter
- enjoy the skirmishes (non cap point battle)
- enjoy the cap point battles
- enjoy cannon-ing people to support team mates in raid of the capricorn
- enjoy fearing people to their dooms in skyhammer
- enjoy fighting on the skyhammer platform
- enjoy skyhammer-ing people
- enjoy fighting on the capture points
- enjoy escaping from battles and staying alive
- etc

Some boon removal abilities could be buffed/changed by giving them grouping to make them more effective without being OP. Necro axe 3 springs to mind, there are plenty of things like dogged march and ele staff 3 which remove/effect conditions of a certain type, necro axe could do with stripping boons of a certain type [like protection/regen].
That and nerf lyssa, I could take a nerf to corrupt boon as it was previously too strong on classes who were genuinely working to get that many boons, but nerfing corrupt boon and not nerfing lyssa, that’s just stupid. If you want stupid in your game then give us back stupid corrupt boon to counter the stupid lyssa runes.
Easy test: 1 Dhuumfire necro using scepter autoattack on guardian using signet heal and specced for condition removal every 10 seconds
See if it is always the same conditions which get cleansed, scepter autoattack will cycle through bleed, poison and burning, can throw in blindness too, wont kill the guardian
Whatever condition has been applied to you the most recently, that’s the one you will cleanse.

I can’t tell you the exact order, but there definitely is one, try testing it against lyssa runes on an elite, corrupt boon always leaves stability up. From what you’ve said it also looks like it sticks to tht order regardless of the intensity of that condition/boon [like burning might be stronger than bleed but a 1 second burn isn’t as strong as 20 stacks of bleed]. Some transparency would be nice

roles like this don´t exsist. You can´t just say -> I would like to fit these roles and make a build to fill them.
real roles are:
hammer longbow warrior
s/d thief
bunker guard
terror necro
spirit ranger
shatter mesmerso if you try anything else, one of those builds above can do your job better, so you rather pick one of the listed builds and see in what roles you can use them.
The current trait system pigeonholes classes and does not allow for diversity cause you have to follow the synergies and op traits in the traitlines and you can´t balance traits without affecting other builds. A system where you choose your role/playstyle first and then get access to some trait choices is much better.
Ice did say that he isn’t making a tier list of who is better at what, just who can do what, and how they do it. I agree with your list btw, that just isn’t the idea behind this thread
Wow Ato, I really don’t care what you play, I have beaten plenty of warriors – that doesn’t make it okay. You are right, 8 seconds of condition immunity on 60 second cooldown doesn’t sound like much until you consider how much a warrior could do in that timeframe and is still hard to kite/counter outside of it, that 8 seconds just takes the gameplay from minimal skill level required to none temporarily. I really should have stopped caring when I read use sigil of doom, I don’t know why I didn’t.

I didn’t strictly stick to the rules though, well bomb necro is ridiculously easy to kite, there is nothing as good as dogged march available, guardian has some gap closing ability but it tends to come in bursts.
Necro zerk would struggle very much to eat a spike attempt, guard would have access to invulnerability though. Whichever weaponset you choose as guard would make a big impact too, greatsword is a must with this build, then either sword would give more melee uptime on your target to help spike, but be very low on CC, hammer would give more control but struggles to stay on target
with 20 trait points idk if I could do it, with 30;
Guardian triple meds/monk’s focus/signet heal;
- meds [2k per meditation cast]
- Virtue of resolve [90 per second x 30]
- signet heal [8k],
- conditions cured; two from smite condition, three from signet then lets say a probably generous 8 from contemplation of purity; that makes 13 conditions cured
16,700 heal / 13 conditions cured
Necro well bombing [this is slightly more complex as is scales with number of targets from which to leech for this example lets again be generous and say that we are fighting a spirit ranger so 5 targets as a constant]
- 3x wells siphoning 100hp per tick from each target over 5 seconds; 2500 + 1 extra second from suffering = 2000 heal
- well of blood = 8.2k heal plus 5000 from 10 seconds of 5 target vampiric = 13.5k
- vampiric procs from say 1 attack per second [note that all power wellbombers use dagger, so all single target dmg] 30x 40 = 1,200 heal
Altogether: exactly 16,700 again However, if fighting only one target or targets who are clever enough to move out of the well fields, then these numbers will take a very drastic hit, these are numbers from above ideal situations.
In regards to conditions cured, well of power would convert 5 conditions into boons for all frirendly targets stood inside, however it does leave you open to being knocked out of the field if the player is smart.
At the moment warriors can just equip their passive regen signet and be unable to be killed. When a warrior is 4v1 and not dropping below 50% health and able to kill the other 4 players, it simply makes PVP unfun. Just had two games where it was impossible to kill any of the opposing team because it was all passive regen warriors.
Are you positive warrior is your only issue? Losing 4v1 is pathetic lol.

This “omg noobs just use poison kitten ” argument is getting tired, for a number of reasons;
1) Hello! It’s called cleansing Ire
2) Hello! it’s called 100% condition duration reduction from stance
3) HELLO! The point is that spamming sceptre autoattack as a necro to keep up poison spells death as the warrior is vastly going to out-damage you, cleanse the conditions and regen up to 3k+ hp during one skull crack which will, again, cleanse the poison until you can try to reapply it doing pitiful damage
I run the signet “build”. It’s awesome, but in no way impossible. I am easily killed by condition spamming the crap out of me.

Maybe, they should just remove Hot Join?
I believe, a lot of people agree, that Hot Join isn’t that good for “learning how to play”, as it is to often just running around in a zerg and a lot player just care about glory or kills and not about the actual match win.
Additionally, the total missing of Matchmaking in Hot Join often leads to 5 rank 30+ vs 5 rank 10- or other “unfair” teams.By putting all players just into solo queue, the MM-system would probably have a bigger pool of players “to chose”, which could result in a decrease of “waiting time” until the matchbegin and maybe even better matchmaking.
For people who don’t care about tournaments/bigger objectives than killing people, ANet just could create some “training-servers” without glory, just for testing builds / duelling (and maybe some Deathmath-servers, as some ppl wnat them).
Do you really think this would fix anything? Tht would only cause the players you are complaining about to start using the tournament que instead, then solo que would become the new hotjoin and team que would be the only organised pvp, and that’s exactly how it was at release up until leaderboards. At least now there are hotjoins for people who want a very very casual pvp experience [nothing wrong with that] and people can use solo que for is they want something more serious. It might not be as serious as you’d maybe like but removing hotjoin would only worsen that situation.

First let’s reset all ranks and second give back proper rank to people based only on tournament experience, after that maybe we can start making tiers for soloQ

In regards to the healing role, I have found in spvp that while it’s nice – it is next to useless, some of the biggest group healers do it through aoe fields like well of blood or healing rain, these just tend to not make much impact in spvp as people generaly wont have enough time/freedom to huddle together and spam blasts into it like you can in wvw.
Maybe the exception is a guardian using the healing book elite
About the conditions death thing: that just shows what did the most damage from one source. So even if you actually died mostly from direct damage attacks, burning/bleeding can still be a bigger singular source of total damage, like this on the death log fighting a guard;
2.5k damage from sword 1 first attack
2.5k damage from sword 1 second attack
2.5k damage from sword 1 third attack
5k damage from whirling wrath
5k damage from symbol of wrath
6k damage from burning
The burning damage will go to #1 spot because all the burning damage from different sources gets grouped together, whereas the direct damage gets split into each individual attack it came from
so conditions are very often shown as high up in the death log
I’d agree about maybe having seperate tier for under rank 10 though, I think anything above that is fair game, your feet are wet enough
They are not reassigning ranks, drop it, there are plenty of people who have been playing long before there were leaderboards around with no real reward other than rank, people seem to be getting carried away any time they break the top 500 on solo que’s fantastically accurate and not in any way abuseable system
The categories are a little bloated, yes, but boon removal is actually an integral part of gameplay and I do agree that classes are brought for their ability to remove boons [to an extent]. For mesmers it’s essential for setting up spikes, for necros it’s an integral part of stomp/res prevention. Regardless of whether you do have another class to spike/prevent stomps – you still need dedicated boon removal somewhere.
Boon removal could be the reason to bring 1x thief and 1x mesmer as spike, as opposed to 2x thief
Vigorous precision is probably going to serve you better than valorous defence
