Thank you Stephane for being the only mod to step into what is the forum equivilent of Orr on a bad day.

The Oxford English Dictionary defines “random” as “Having no definite aim or purpose; not sent or guided in a particular direction; made, done, occurring, etc., without method or conscious choice; haphazard.” This concept of randomness suggests a non-order or non-coherence in a sequence of symbols or steps, such that there is no intelligible pattern or combination.

Randomness is not the problem, exotics looted over a week of play of 1,0,0,9,0,0,1, would be a problem of randomness but heck i could live with it i hope of the day the flood gate opens. What people are kittened off by is 0,0,0,0,0,0,0. That is a patten and a bad one.

The total number of high end items dropping across the game may well be the same as pre 15th and to be honest i am will to bet its close, what was introduced was fractals . A recuring theme we see in the thread are people saying my drops are fine they run 8 dungeons a day and get heaps.
If the total pre and post 15th are the same then people who chose not to run dungeons are no longer given drop because the items they would have recived are being “balanced” to allow for the large number coming into the economy from the fractals.
That is your choice but if Anet feels you want drops you do dungeons is the ynew policy please tell us so we can make an informed choice about how we play and if we play.

First part is right the second isnt, yes the rewards are lame but they are lame for everyone there fore fair.

As with any gw2 event the only sensible way to get any thing is look at what the vendor offers wait till the rush on the TP fades and buy it for a few silver.

Pushing for a 0.0001% chance then being unhappy when you get the 99.999% result is not a recipe for enjoyment of the game.

The problem with that is its collective punishment.

Its like saying ok some one in Oregon is smoking pot lets nuke the state to be sure we get him.

Problem is as badger pointed out low lvls get socks high levels get jumpers, most skins take 150 socks but only 100 jumpers apart from the fact that on my 80 guardian most things are a face roll but on my leveling mesmer the one i actually want things like princess wands the fights are tougher.

Both may get the same number of drops but the low level get shorted at the vendor.

A possible happy medium could be buffing the NPCs who are already programmed to accompany you. For example, when you do Ascalonian Catacombs in story mode, Rytlock could get a buff based on the number of people in your party. If you go in by yourself, he would be a powerful sidekick. With a full party, less powerful as he currently is.

Rytlock couldnt be less powerfull than he currently is, im sure he was chosen as a plushie because in game he’s just a big fluffy thing with a flaming sword that sits there and looks pretty.

Perhaps a rent a toon system i have an 80 guardian 80 ranger and 80 thief for 5 ectos and hour ill follow you any where

based on my small sample i broke even, sat at 300 wepon smithing for ages building up mats and doing map stuff last night sat down did 300-400 and tossed every thing into Zommoros’s pit of hunger. result one rare 2 exotics and a pile of blues that would probably sell in total for the amount the mats would.

If your leveling well you made the stuff any way throw the dice if you like but long term your only going to do well if your lucky and for every one that does there is the guy who tossed 100 hamers in the forge for nix.

After the reset i got a message i havent seen for months, bags full. Ok it was greens blues whites and trash but after months of filling the first two bags if i was lucky it made me realise how little now dropped even of junk.

I have the sad feeling that like others my DR reset with the servers the flood of items worth 1s will end and i will continue to be punished for logging in each day for the daily.

Part of the new armor for january, the descend armor, examples are the afore mentioned quaggan stocking ( they make you go oooOOOooo) heelless boots, the skirt if utterly no protection and the blouse of perkiness.

Tried a small experiment last night, i was runing round the norn starter area and the champion wolf master and his pets spawned. Thier path was heading over a present so i popped the package and ran, 5 princesses.

The “Champion” managed to kill one of the 5 before the little dollies whiped the floor with him and his ice wolves.

They dont need ear warmers, the whole reason for the big floppies is heat radiation, cover an Asurans ears and their brain overheats.

i would argue rather than a degressive random chance the game has a recessive random element. If i kill a mob or run an event or event chain i have x chance of loot, due to diminishing returns if i keep running the event each time i presumably ( because no one will actualy say what the DR is doing ) have less chance. The idea of the more you play the less we reward you is just crazy.

What? Most modern countries have very strict and complex gambling laws that keep plenty of lawyers busy. Underage gambling is usually outright banned.
That said, “gambling” activities like these boxes are often a very grey area and I’d be very curious what happened if somebody was bothered enough to drag this in front of a court.

You can bet the lawers have been all over this type of marketing, you a buying a chest ( contents may vary) though some times it may contain better items than others you always get some thing.

If that sort of marketing was classified as gambling the colector card games would have been in court long ago. You by $500 worth of boster packs in the hope of getting the snergle of ultimate power its a gamble but not gambling

I haven’t had a problem on either of my 80s with the Ventari’s.

I have killed them easily on my Warrior (Fully CoF Armor, Signet GS/Rifle Build)
and on my Guardian (Toughness/Healing Power gear, Scepter & Shield/Staff build)

And before someone says ‘were you with a zerg group?! that’d be why they weren’t hard’, No. I solo present hunt, and I haven’t had an issue with dying.

Dont worry the new boxes have been designed for those that think the current ones are too easy.

The presents inside the box work the same way that resource nodes do. Everyone can loot them. The major difference is that they disappear shortly after they appear. This may lend to the perception that someone else has taken the present, but I can assure that this has not actually happened.

The trick or treat bags that came out of the haunted doors worked the same way, but no one complained because those doors were prone to zerging.

Is it possible to extend the time a little i found quite a few times by the time i had beaten down the toy zerg the present had gone, not a lot of people round late at night to help out and not a lot of people interested in a tough fight for an old sock as a reward, if i wasnt saving for the toy sword i probably would leave them as well.

leveling up an alt at lvl 15 i get 5 lvl 14 ranged mobs with aoe and a ton of hit points repair bill for wintersday

Open world, yes i have enjoyed running dungeons, when i was single and my time was my own it was easy to get a couple of uninterupted hours to do nothing but game.

Now i can still manage the same time but it is interupted, i dont think it is fair to ask 4 other people to stand round while i attend to RL maters, BRB Kids trying to shove cat in the oven might be funny the first time but wears out pretty quick.

Open world the worse thing if i go AFK is a repair bill and a waypoint fee im not a problem to any one else.

Wait till half way through the event and buy what im after off the TP for a few silver rather than spending gems or RL cash on the chest lottery for no result.

Problem is that like LOTR its too big for one movie, you would need to release it in segments. Based on my experience as i played through areas…

Queensdale and human starter areas felt like Wizard of OZ
Moving on to the Sylvari areas felt like Avatar
The continual war of the Charr areas felt like Apocolypse now
Orr, Dawn of the Dead ( the 2004 remake where zombies learn to run )

3 days play, enough time in game to do 2 70+ map completions, chase dragons, do guild events and play wack-a-mole on events in Orr in the hope of getting some thing to turn into ectos and OMG perhaps a few charged lodestones.

Only worth while items ( ie yellow+ ) were completing to two maps, glad i got those before some one realised map completion can give out rares and nerfed it.
